Choir Concert at St Nicholas

Covering North Walsham, Aylsham and surrounding villages in association with the Cromer Times and Sheringham Independent

On Saturday 5 October at 7pm the boy choristers and men of St Nicholas church (now the last such institution in Norfolk outside Norwich Cathedral) will be giving a concert in aid of the church tower fund, and their own choir funds. It will feature a wide range of music from across the choral spectrum including 'Hear my Prayer' by Mendelssohn with the famous 'O For the Wings of a Dove' solo. The concert has a special focus on music that shows off the fine solo voices found in the choir, particularly amongst the boy choristers.

Admission on the door is £5 and is under the direction of church organist David Ballard.

Mimosa, Kingston and Harvey, three of the kittens from the feral colony, have left for new homes and the other five are now all available for re-homing. Kirsch made a good recovery and is a very loving little lad.

Dorothy and Felicity the dumped kittens (also mentioned last time) have now gone to new homes. We do still, however, have lots more kittens available in most colours and sizes, all just waiting for that special person to come along and claim them.

WORMING ADVICE Did you know?

Different types of worm

 Roundworm – common in puppies from 2 weeks old. Cause lethargy, bloating, diarrhoea and weight loss. RISK TO HUMAN HEALTH.  Tapeworm – eggs are present in the environment, linked closely with fleas. RISK TO HUMAN HEALTH.  Whipworm – seen more commonly in kennelled dogs, symptoms include diarrhoea.  Hookworm – can cause anaemia and diarrhoea RISK TO HUMAN HEALTH.  Lungworm – caught from slugs and snails, cause breathing problems and effect blood clotting. May also lead to paralysis and is sometime fatal.  Heartworm – spread by mosquitoes causes coughing and anorexia, can be fatal. UK is currently free from heartworm though it is found in southern Europe, the USA and Australia. TREATMENT REQUIRED AS PART OF THE PET TRAVEL SCHEME From the list above it is clear that not only do worms pose problems for our pets but they are also a potential problem for us too. Even more reason to get up to date with worming routines.

Experts recommend you worm your pet at least 4 times a year, however younger animals and those at greater risk, for example keen hunters, may require more regular worming.

Natural Shoreline Photography Exhibition

Local artist Sharma Jamieson has two exhibitions of natural shoreline images - at the Rocket House Cafe, Cromer, and Priory Maze Cafe, Beeston Regis, Sheringham through September and October - where her framed photographs and canvases can be viewed and bought.

Sharma writes ‘I feel that North Norfolk is a part of the world you choose to visit, rather than passing through, and this adds to its uniqueness. I was drawn here seven years ago and live in Sheringham. The ever changing face of the seashore is so diverse it brings an opportunity to meet and photograph some very strange and exotic sea life, illuminated by the vast sea skies. I find macro photography, the perfect medium to express and share the minute details of its lives and life cycles. I am a member of Nova (North Norfolk Organization for Visual Artists)’.

Youth HUBs aim to be centre of local Youth Communities

North Norfolk Youth HUBs is the new service supported by youth charity MAP, which is committed to providing an open and friendly space in which young people can socialise and take part in FREE, enjoyable, positive activities and local projects. The HUBs aim to support and provide useful information to all young people aged 13-19 years old in North Norfolk.

The activities and focus of each HUB will be discussed and planned by the young members themselves, as will the taster sessions and any future community projects with which the HUBs will become engaged. The intention is for the HUBs to meet every fortnight.

Will, the Senior Youth Worker for the NNYH project, says, “These HUBs are a welcoming space where young people can relax and enjoy themselves with the support of trained Youth Workers. They also provide a great opportunity for those young people who wish to grow in confidence or gain valuable experience in planning, fundraising and leadership.”

North Walsham & Dilham Canal Trust

The Trust held its fifth Annual General Meeting on 29 August in Dilham Village Hall. This was well attended and all the Trustees stated that they had no other relevant interests to declare. The chairman Mr Roy Medcalf was unavailably absent and the meeting was chaired by the Vice-Chairman, Mr Chris Black. He said that the official newsletter of the Trust, “The Quagmire”, is now being edited by Julie Bygrave and therefore a more regular delivery would be assured, as he is inundated with paperwork for the cause – mainly in connection with the Environment Agency. A calculated plan had been put to the EA in June in connection with the re-watering of the dry section of the canal above Bacton Wood Lock. The plan shows the quantity of water flowing into the section from the Swafield side and details the quantity of that water required to operate the lock and also to run the water wheel at Bacton Wood Mill without detriment to the depth of water in the canal above or in the backsoke running down past the now defunct Sewerage Works at Spa Common. This re-watered section of the canal would provide untold benefits to farmers, wildlife (flora and fauna), birds, amphibians, fish and ultimately leisure and pleasure for local inhabitants and visitors to our beautiful area. David Revill, PLO and Work Party Organiser, said that the work parties had been seriously curtailed in this area due to the Stop Notice placed by the EA on work on

the Ebridge Pound. This Stop Notice had also prevented the canal owner, The Old Canal Company, from carrying out its duties on the canal, as laid down by the EA itself, despite the Acts of Parliament governing this canal. We are planning work at Briggate Mill Pond and lock in the later part of the year and also in the Honing Lock area. The permissive path alongside the canal from Ebridge Mill Pond is considerably well used by walkers who admire the clean air, crystal clear water of the canal and the abundant show of natural growth at the side of the water together with the large range, now, of wildlife. Brian Wexler, Wildlife Officer, reported that the bird life at Ebridge is astounding with goldfinches, wagtails, warblers, swallows, marsh harriers, kingfishers and others. Now that the water level here is constant due to it being controlled, as it should be in a canal, water voles are now visible as are water snails and many types of dragonflies.

This covers ‘Trails’ to be followed of Magnificent Churches; the Military; Wind and Water Mills; The North Walsham & Dilham Canal; Second-hand Books; Ghost Hunters; The Maritime Trail and Historic Transport. The Trusts thanks go to Carole Bullinger, Secretary, who is not a Trustee but who does an enormous amount of behind the scenes, mainly, work for the Trust and keeps the agendas and minutes up to date and in order and arranges events such as the Ebridge Event. Gas Safety Week is an annual Safety Awareness week trying to raise the profile and importance of both natural and LPG gas safety.

Its aims are to encourage the public to take care of your gas appliances especially as we approach the start of the heating season. It is co-ordinated by the Gas Safe Register with support from the gas industry including retailers, manufacturers, consumer bodies and their Gas Safe registered engineers.

A Taste of what it’s like to be blind – on a plate

We are delighted to be working with the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind as we launch this year’s Grove event in the Norfolk and Norwich Food Festival.

Together we are hosting a prestige evening on October 4th where guests will be blindfolded to sample their dinners – unaware where the food is situated on their plates.

It’s a great opportunity to sample some of chef Charlie Hodson’s award-winning fare, created as always with a much locally-sourced produce as possible, but this time with the added quirk of not being able to see what you’re doing with your knife and fork! And as always Charlie has some delightful food waiting for all those brave enough to go under the blindfold…

“Those of us lucky enough to have the use of our sight tend to make some big mental decisions when we see the food arrive on the tables, and utilise our other senses – taste, touch, smell – after that,” said Charlie. “So it will be very interesting to hear if, for example, people notice the flavours more intensely, or the aromas as the food comes up to the table.

“It’s going to be a lovely event and we are really looking forward to seeing people’s reactions to having to concentrate on using other senses as they eat.”

The charity’s events manager and former Norwich City footballer, Jeremy Goss said: “Just imagine trying to eat a Sunday roast when you can’t see to cut the beef, slice a roast

potato or identify where the carrots and peas are. It would be a nightmare for sighted people, but it’s a situation blind people are confronted with every day. It’s compounded when they are eating out when it can be embarrassing to be seen touching your food.”

The Blind Dining Experience is being held on October 4 at 7.30pm, and will include a talk on how blind people cope by the NNAB’s leisure co-ordinator Mark Smith, who is himself blind.

THE NORTH NORFOLK GARDENER GROWING HERBS ON THE DANUBE although the use of the term ‘garden’ is a slight exaggeration there were indeed herbs growing on the deck although they were planted in a series of small containers. Most of the commonest herbs were there such as mint, sage and thyme and they looked well trimmed which would indicate that the chef did indeed use them when preparing the meals.

The temperatures and conditions on the Danube can be quite extreme, we had readings of 90 degrees plus but it can get very cold, wet and windy and if the herbs can survive in such difficult conditions it only confirms that we could all grow herbs in our own gardens, containers or on the window ledge.

Advertisements for river cruises seem to dominate television at the moment especially Viking who sponsor Midsommer Murders, Poirot and numerous other whodunnits. Their ships claim many features to attract customers including a walking track on the deck (26 laps to the mile), various games and sports including putting and outdoor chess and perhaps most surprisingly an organic herb garden ‘atop the deck’.

When we chose to travel along the Danube with this company I was interested to check whether there was in fact an herb garden and

Planting herbs in a container is particularly good because it means that you can have them in a convenient place near to the kitchen. It also means that it is possible to move the herbs around so that they receive the summer sun and the winter protection they require in order to survive. Containers can be planted up with herbs as easily as any other plants, look attractive and smell delicious. Variegated or coloured forms add extra interest.

Herbs can easily be grown from seed but to save time ready grown plants are always available from markets, garden centres, supermarkets and even your local greengrocer.

If you have bought large plants split the clumps to make more plants and space them out in the container. Depending on the variety you should be able to fit six plants in a 12 inch container.

• Suitable herbs. Most herbs are suitable for containers, providing they have well-drained compost and a sunny position. Small herbs such as chives, basil, marjoram, oregano, parsley and sage are particularly suited to container cultivation. Larger herbs such as rosemary need regular trimming. Tender herbs such as coriander and basil are fairly easy to grow in a container if they are given winter protection, but - since these herbs often deteriorate over winter – they are best re-sown annually to ensure a new growth of vigorous plants. Aylsham Model Railway Exhibition

The Broadland Model Railway Club (BMRC) is holding its annual Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday 5 October in the Jubilee Centre at Aylsham from 10.15am to 4.30pm.

This year’s event has the greatest number of layouts yet with 18 having been booked to be shown. These range from N to G scale and include narrow gauge to garden size. There will also be trade, Friends of the BVR and BMRC stands. A new layout by the name of St Alham built by one of the BMRC members will be making its debut public appearance Free parking at the BVR Station and a classic vintage coach will run between the Station and the Jubilee Centre. Refreshments will be available at the Station’s Whistle Stop Restaurant and the Jubilee Centre. Admission is £4 for adults and £3 for children and concessions.

Swap Hibernation for Blood Donation

With the days getting shorter and the long summer days drawing to an end, NHS Blood and Transplant is asking people to swap their sofa for a donation chair at one of the upcoming blood donation sessions in local area. The change of weather also sees the start of the colds and flu season which can mean existing donors are unable to donate whilst they are unwell. With only four per cent of the eligible population giving blood regularly it is important that others come forward to donate blood if they are able to do so.

Derek Carr, Lead Donor Relations Manager for NHS Blood and Transplant, said “For many, October can be a quieter time of the year socially and, with the dark nights drawing in, it can be tempting to stay indoors. However, we would ask people to fight the urge to hibernate and save lives instead. If you are generally in good health you could potentially help to save up to three lives with every donation you give.

Colds and flu can have a knock-on effect with blood stocks, this is why we need people to act now to help save and improve patients’ lives across England and North Wales.”

Every day hospitals in England and North Wales need around 7,000 units of blood to treat patients with a range of health issues including patients with cancer, patients in A&E and women needing blood during maternity care.

Older People from North Norfolk Area Come Together to Discuss the Challenges of Rural Living

Age UK North Norfolk is giving local older people the chance to share their experiences of rural living with local MP Norman Lamb.

The event is part of Age UK’s nationwide campaign, ‘Later life in rural England’, which aims to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities faced by older people living in rural England.

The event will be hosted by Age UK North Norfolk at Pinewood Park Leisure Centre, Holt Road, Upper Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8TU, on Friday 11 October starting at 10am.

Lyn Battrick, General Manager, Age UK North Norfolk said: ‘Living in the countryside holds many advantages for older people, including peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings and a strong sense of community. Yet while the ‘rural idyll’ holds true for some people, with poor transport links and large distances between towns and villages, living in a rural area can present unique challenges for older people. We want older people in North Norfolk to have their say on these issues and discuss solutions to these problems’.

Age UK’s campaign – ‘Later life in rural England’ – is calling for all levels of government to: • ‘rural proof’ policy and services that may have an impact on rural areas and make older people a priority in this process • take the ‘rural premium’ and social value of services into account • support community participation • target social isolation in rural areas

In answer to the comments he makes, why is it that Poppies Nursery, a commercial business, has legal access to the Memorial Park, a public place, but the public cannot park in Farman Avenue to gain access to the Memorial Park? There is no other official car park area other than on Yarmouth Road, a very busy road, which is hazardous for dogs, toddlers and mothers with prams to get out of vehicles. This seems a very bias and unfair application of the law for sensibly parked cars.

The people of Sheringham should be aware that some of the advantages that they currently enjoy are now under a real and present threat. Chief among these is the existence of the Poppy Line, one of our major tourist attractions. If the NNR is allowed to proceed with its plans to turn the Poppy line into just another link in a regular train service between Norwich and Holt or beyond, it cannot possibly retain its present character, and Sheringham will lose its fame as a unique, steam train town, and will become just another stop on a main line route. This would be a disaster for our town. Another advantage that we currently enjoy is that of free access to our main street via Station Road, the main entry point to Sheringham. Not a great privilege, you might say – no more than we have a right to expect. But this too could be denied to us if the NNR is allowed to build level crossing gates over this key route, which will be closed every time the regular train services pass through. The Shannocks of the 1960s abandoned their station and opted for a bare stopping platform instead precisely in order to get rid of their level crossing gates, which even then were an intolerable obstruction to traffic. To restore them now would not be in the public interest. If motorists learn to avoid Station Road because of the regular blockages there, what are the alternatives? Any suggestion of using Beeston Road as a main entry point to our town is, of course, a joke. This leaves only Church Street as an alternative. But the Church Street bridge is narrow and dangerous, as is Church Street itself between the bridge and the church. Surely our traffic problems are bad enough already without adding to them. Will the existence of level crossing gates encourage people to come to Sheringham? I rather doubt it. They are more likely to avoid our town as it acquires a SHIN-SHINE reputation for traffic congestion.

What are our local councillors, who ought to be governing in the interests of Sheringham instead of those of the NNR, doing about it? Let’s see, shall we? First, half of Ottendorf Green, once a pleasant, open, green public space for us all to enjoy, was handed over to the Railway Interest. They built a track over it. Then they were allowed to extend that track over our main street, linking up with the main line, all with no public consultation whatsoever. Now the signal box has been moved, and level crossing warning signs have gone up on Station Road. What do you think is going to happen next? If the NNR decides to throw up crossing gates over our main street, will they ask us for our permission first? Will they even ask us for our opinion? No, our irresponsible councillors will simply nod their plans through again in the same way as before.

Their behaviour has been absolutely disgraceful. I have never lived in a town whose local government has been so blatantly neglectful of the interests of those people who elected it. We certainly need a referendum on this issue before the plans of the Melton Constable Trust are allowed to proceed any further. I suggest that we should all write to our councillors to demand one. If it is refused, they should do the honourable thing and resign in disgrace.

LAND PURCHASE FIRST STEP TO ESTABLISHING ORBITAL RAIL ROUTE - New fund raising drive launched

The ambition to establish a Norfolk Orbital railway has moved forward with the purchase of a vital piece of former railway track bed at Holt – and the charity behind the scheme, the Melton Constable Trust, is appealing for £85,000 to secure the next stretch.

The eventual aim of the company behind the Norfolk Orbital railway, the Holt, Melton Constable and Fakenham Railway (HMCFR), is to link the existing rail heads at Holt on the North Norfolk Railway and Dereham on the Mid Norfolk Railway, via Fakenham, to create a passenger carrying railway line that brings rail travel back to communities throughout Norfolk that are currently entirely reliant on car and bus transport. Both the existing railways have connections to Network Rail at Sheringham and Wymondham respectively and the line would be built on the track beds of railways closed in the 1960s as part of the Beeching axe.

The first stage, however, is to bring a regular rail service to Norwich back to the town of Holt. The purchase of the key section of former trackbed to the south of the North Norfolk Railway’s station on the outskirts of Holt brings this aim a vital step nearer reality.

The company has also agreed terms for the purchase of a further section of land and paid a £15,000 deposit.

“This is major progress of the most practical kind,” said Trevor Bailey, one of the trustees of The Melton Constable Trust, the registered charity that plans to rebuild a railway extending from the North Norfolk Railway's present terminus into and beyond Holt. “Now we can offer the best of reasons why the public and organisations should give financial support towards the next stage.”

The Trust is now launching an appeal to raise £85,000 to secure the next stretch, crucially requiring £20,000 by 30 November this year.

Last year the Trust had a significant success in being accepted into the Big Give, one of the country's main challenge funds for charities.

We are today launching a new fundraising campaign to enable us to buy other key sections. We need every donation we can get in the coming weeks.”

An agreement has been signed with the North Norfolk Railway covering the extension of the railway into Holt and the principle of a through transport service from the Bittern Line.

The Trust's Patron, Lord Walpole, had received news of the first land purchase with delight.

“I am so pleased. So much work has been put into this project. Now we can see it starting to become real in no uncertain terms. I urge everyone who cares about public transport, the history and the future of the rail system, car-free tourism, the local economy and the Norfolk environment to support the next stage with any donations they can afford before the end of November.”

The Trust's immediate intention is to secure the land for the route, so that nothing can physically block the building of the railway, the construction of which will be subject to the normal statutory permissions and standards.

The plan, drawn up by expert railway engineers, W S Atkins, takes the railway for part of its route onto the wide area of land alongside the Holt bypass, the road having taken the original trackbed. There are detailed design issues but Norfolk County Council has made it clear that it has no objections in principle.

Trevor Bailey emphasised that the Trust's first concern was to restore train services to Holt and beyond in order to provide efficient and environmentally friendly public transport.

News from the White Horse Overstrand with Head Chef Nathan Boon

It is hard to believe we are now in the month of September, the weather is still good and we are still seeing plenty of holiday visitors at the White Horse and are pleased to see so many familiar faces from this time last year. We have just started our Autumn run of ‘Speciality Food Nights’, always popular they give my kitchen team a chance to offer a range of dishes that we might not normally cook and of course our customers even more food choices. Starting on the 18th September there will be a different them every Wednesday until we start our Christmas Menu’s in December. Already planned are the ever popular Seafood and Steak nights and along with Grill, Burger and Italian nights there are more themes still to be announced. Don’t forget that our Christmas and New Year Menus are freely available from

the pub so if you are planning a Christmas party for workmates or with friends you should call in and get a copy, we are always happy to help with any special dietary requirements and for larger parties we are again this year offering a free disco.

This year seems to be a bumper year for apples os I have written my own recipe for Apple Pie always a favourite and so easy to make its an ideal Autumn dessert which all the family can enjoy.

Nathan Boon’s Recipe for Apple Tart Ingredients: 500g Coxs Apples for purée, 100g Caster Sugar, 750g Cox's Apples for slicing, 500g Puff Pastry, 50g Butter

Method: Peel, core and quarter 100g of apples add to the pan with 75g of your sugar and 4 tablespoons of water simmer for 20 minutes strain off excess fluid. Roll out the pastry into roughly a 30cm circle (an average dinner plate can be used as a template) place on greased baking tray, prick with fork leave a one inch border unpricked, spread the apple compote on the pastry leaving the one inch border. Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes. Peel, core and slice remaining apples. Arrange the sliced apples in circles overlapping on top of the apple purée. Melt the butter and brush over the apples, sprinkle with the remaining sugar, bake for around 30 minutes on 190c. Can be served with Creme Fraiche, Vanilla Ice Cream or for a change try Toffee Ice Cream.

A Good Night Out in Northrepps

Northrepps Film Society’s first ever show on Thursday 5 september was judged a great success by all.

Twenty people turned up to see The King’s Speech at Northrepps Village Hall where they enjoyed a cup of tea or glass of wine in the foyer before filing in to take their seats. The large screen surrounded by black drapes gave the hall the look of a real cinema and a speech by Alistair McKay, Chairman of Northrepps Parish Council, provided the Society with a fitting inauguration.

According to audience feedback after the show, everyone found the sound and picture quality excellent and some who had seen the film before said they enjoyed it even more the second time.

The Society’s next film, on 3 October, is Midnight Cowboy, John Schlesinger’s gritty 1969 study of the relationship between two outsiders (Dustin Hoffman and John Voight) struggling to survive on the streets of New York. Admission is £4.50; doors at orthrepps Village Hall open at 7pmwith tea, coffee and licensed bar - the film begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Film Society will then look forward to showing Cromer in the Second World War on 7 November when Peter Stibbons will introduce the film and take questions afterwards.

Happisburgh Lifeboat Station - Three Peaks Challenge

From the peaks and troughs of the North Sea, to the three highest peaks in the British Isles, Happisburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station volunteers went into action and completed this massive challenge to raise money for the RNLI.

On 24 August, Christian Larter, Jake Munday, Dave Cato, Will Baker, Danny Cordukes, Tim Grimmer and Justin Arnold left Happisburgh for the drive to Ben Nevis to start the Three Peaks Challenge.

This challenge involved climbing a total height of 3,407 meters and hiking a distance of 25miles up and down plus driving a total of 1,338 miles from the starting point of Happisburgh Station.

At 7.50 am the six crew, with their Guide, Billy Burnside, started the challenge in the rain and mist of Ben Nevis, which they completed in four hrs and 35 mins. Will Baker said of this first leg “the enjoyment of walking Ben Nevis was barely hindered by the foul weather and the poor visibility.

On the descent, the clouds cleared revealing an astonishing view of Fort William and behind it, Loch Linnhe.” Christian Larter said “the sheer drops and picturesque waterfalls made it all worthwhile.”

North Walsham Table Tennis STAR PAVING SERVICES Cup Battles Get Season Underway

The good news for the Star Paving Services North Norfolk Table Tennis League - which celebrated its golden jubilee at the end of last season - continued at the start of the new season with three new teams being welcomed.

A third extra team for Aylsham and a second at Gresham’s School join a new club – the Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham. The five North Walsham teams return with NWSCA defending both their League crown and the Knockout Doubles Cup and NWSCB also looking for a strong performance in the top flight. However Outlaws, Specials and Gresham’s School A will all be very strong rivals. NWSCD have managed to stay in the first division by the skin of their teeth for the second year running as the new teams (who enter in the second division) have seen them fill the last of the ten available spaces. NWSCD will be looking for win the Handicap Singles Cup for the third year in succession. The nine teams in the second

division include both NWSCC and NWSCE. The new season got underway with the preliminary matches in both Knockout Cups with thirteen teams in each competition receiving byes through to the first round proper and the remaining six forced to fight it out for the remaining places. In the Knockout Doubles Cup, NWSCB’s Dennis Elliott, Paul Price and Simon Halliday hosted Outlaw’s John Hancock, Steve Patterson and Colin Humphries at North Walsham Sports Centre.

The tie started with two hard fought five setters with the players understandably a little rusty after the summer break. Hancock and Humphries defeated Elliott and Halliday but the latter’s high standard of looping continued as he teamed up with Price for a five set win against Patterson and Humphries. Elliott and Price then saw NWSCB into a 2-1 lead with an 11-6, 14-12, 11-7 win against Hancock and Patterson, but after that the Outlaws stepped up a gear and won each of the next four battles in

four sets to win the tie 5-2.

Aylsham B’s new venue at the Care Trust Centre was christened with a match against NWSCE as the team of Hugh Rout, Ian Potter and Nash Panday won 6-0. The visiting team of Joel Lodge, Stuart Hook and Tom Wardle stretched the hosts to five sets on two occasions and four on another. NWSCC’s Chris Johnson, James Morter and Edna Stone hosted Backhander’s Teucer Wilson, Whil De Neve and Rod Goffin in the Knockout Singles with Wilson winning the opener against Johnson in four. Morter had a couple of chances to take a set from De Neve, but a fluke serve closed out the win for the Backhander 14-12 in the third. Next Goffin defeated Stone 11-3, 9-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9. A trio of wins in straight concluded Backhander’s 6-0 win.

Big generosity and smiles all round for Norfolk on Match Day

Norfolk’s cancer charity Big C saw generosity by the bucketful on Norwich City match day

Norwich City’s match at the end of last month was win-win for Norfolk. Not only did Norwich win their third match of the season, but the first charity collection of the season saw Norfolk’s cancer charity, Big C walk away with buckets filled with over £2,000 – all to be spent on supporting people in Norfolk with cancer as well as their friends their families.

Norwich City fans came from far and wide to help with the collection at the football ground on Saturday. There was a fantastic response to Big C’s call for help via Facebook and Twitter - it encouraged new and seasoned volunteers to help out on the day of Norwich’s home win.

The Charity Day collection is one of 5 held each year and was organised by Joyce and Colin Bell, helped by Emma Fletcher from the
