The area concerned is locally called Purdy's Marsh and is being cleared of debris and brash to allow a fresh crop of reed to grow for the benefit of the many birds and creatures.
A large part of this marsh has been taken over by Himalayan Balsam and this choking plant has to be totally cleared to permit successful growth of the reeds. It is anticipated to take up to three years to attain this end.

Young Singers Join Mikado Cast A classic comic opera is giving local youngsters the chance to hone their singing skills.
A handful of up-and-coming singers are joining the cast of a touring company performing The Mikado at Sheringham Little Theatre. It gives them the chance to perform the witty words and jaunty tunes of Victorian duo Gilbert and Sullivan alongside professionals.
The company, Opera Anywhere, does educational work and visited the Sheringham venue last year to stage Pirates of Penzance. Due to its success, and quality of the youngsters who came forward, they are back with the saga set in Japan.
Mark Horner, who plays one of the adult leads Poo-Bah, said "Last year we thought the youngsters could sing two or three choruses, but they were so good they did the whole show.

"This is the first time we have had youngsters take on some of the main roles."
During a break in rehearsals Zac Green, 20, from Fakenham, who plays nobleman Pish-Tush, said "Gilbert and Sullivan are not on every young performer's radar, so this is a great opportunity."
Katie Thompson, 19, from Knapton who is Peep-Bo and has ambitions to be a professional singer, said the experience was a bonus for her CV, and a brilliant way to be introduced to opera. She added "I knew the Three Little Maids song which seems really catchy and simple but did not realise how tricky it is with lots of harmonies."
Her mother and theatre director Debbie Thompson said "We are delighted Opera Anywhere wanted to come back here, offering a great chance for young people to work with a professional company.
"It is difficult material for young people to learn and it needs a lot of ability, dedication and hard work, so they are hand picked to make the most of the opportunity."
The Mikado is at Sheringham Little Theatre on Friday and Saturday March 10-11 at 7.30pm. Tickets and more information at www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com or call 01263 822347. North Walsham Times 514 March 11th 2017

The Daffodil
North Walsham & Bradfield Flower Club
After a busy pre-Christmas period, Flower Club members gathered in January for our first meeting of 2017 when we enjoyed an afternoon with popular Area Demonstrator, Alan Smith, who had travelled from Ipswich to entertain us with fabulous flowers and risqué jokes!
At our February AGM, cheques for £500 each were presented to Chris Roberts of North Walsham in Bloom and Donna Tomlinson from North Walsham Young Carers - the funds having been raised throughout last year by our members, mostly from the sale of Christmas wreaths & support from The Beechwood Hotel. This year, the Club will be supporting Age Concern Norfolk.
President Janet Attew with Chris Roberts
Our next Club Meeting is on Thursday 23 March when another NAFAS Area Demonstrator with a unique sense of humour, Brenda Tubb, Alan Smith will be demonstrating ‘Another Fine Mess’. All are welcome. Refreshments served from 2pm before a 2.30pm start (Catholic Church Hall).
The Tea Ladies!
There’s a new face in our garden, A golden daffodil, Many will join her, At least I hope they will. Snowdrops cluster by the stream And don’t seem to mind the cold But the March wind cuts through me Now that I am old. Springtime is lovely The earth is born anew, Like the colours on a canvas That I am painting for you.
A ‘heads-up’ for an Open Meeting at The Atrium on Friday 28 President Janet Attew April at 7pm. We with Donna Tomlin are excited to be welcoming Floral Designer, Laura Leong, two-times winner of Chelsea ‘Florist of the Year’ - in 2013 & 2015. Tickets are £17 and available now from Sue Bloomfield on 01692 500440. G Dillon

Daisy Daze
A daisy in the winter is a wonder Upon this fact I think we’d all agree Yet there it was, this starry face of summer Large as life, and happy as could be. It didn’t give a fig about the season (granted that the day was very mild The azure sky, and sunbeams gaily dancing Left Mother Nature dazzled and beguiled) And so, this scrap of floral inspiration, Wide awake, with petals all unfurled, Seized the unexpected mellow moment To gift a bit of glory to the world.

North Walsham Probus Club
North Walsham Probus members were entertained last month by the story of a retired life model who, having been abandoned by her mother at four, and brought up by her grandmother, finished the last ten years of her working life as a model in Norfolk, eventually cut short by breast cancer.
Despite being abandoned, she found the first years of her life ‘happy and hilarious’ with her grandmother and two elder sisters, both spinsters. She was sent to a boarding school on Hayling Island at nine years of age until she was fourteen, when she was sent to a Secondary Modern School ‘to be brought down to earth’.

Her first job was as an office junior at Heinz, which included a day release course at Kilburn Polytechnic, from which she emerged a year later as a secretary. Ruth found office work boring and she was constantly seeking ‘something different’. This resulted in her marrying the boy down the road and having three children. Eventually the children fled the nest and so did hubby.
This proved to be a defining moment in her life for about 30 years ago she moved to Norfolk, and found employment in Norwich as a temporary secretary. She then remarried and worked as a pheasant plucker and a waitress. The second marriage also ended

in divorce, but at this point an artist friend suggested that she become a Life Model
Ruth then described some of the incidents in her modelling career. One such incident was when visited a cafe, close to the art studio, where she was modelling and found it to be frequented by sex workers who appeared anxious to know the area she was working. A second when she visited a VI Form college and began undressing for a man whom she mistakenly thought to be a student, when in fact he was actually the caretaker.
The response of the Club to the presentation was reflected by one member who described it as ‘vibrant, realistic and compassionate’.

Players take to the stage!
The North Walsham Players pantomime this year was ‘Beauty And The Beast’ and was staged at North Walsham Community Centre over two days.
Dangerous or Damaged Fencing? Get ready BEFORE the winds hit
It featured a cast of 25 and for some it was their first time in a live show. Once again, the show was rehearsed over just eight weeks, twice a week.
Director and performer Colin Jeary said he was very happy with the way the cast gelled together in the musical panto, and also the great support from the people of North Walsham, who came and supported the show. He added some people would not believe that we only rehearse twice a week for eight weeks prior to the show, which equates to basically 16 rehearsals which are only normally around 1½ - 2 hours long.
Colin was very pleased to have new member Leanne Jewell on board as she choreographed all the dance numbers for the show. Princess Beauty was played by Tanya McBride and the Beast played by Tina Allen. Sundays show saw North Walsham’s Beavers make a visit to the panto and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
We can help with all types of fencing! We’ll get it done! Call 01692 405301
Once again the money raised will be going to good causes.
Colin added that thanks were also due to the local businesses who supported the group including Paul Oakes Collectables, The Shoe Shop, Cloud Nine Beauty Clinic, Creative Waves, North Walsham Play and Carl Bird Ltd.
New faces are always welcome, for more information please contact Colin Jeary on 01692 402116.

People who use the many services that ACT provides regularly ask about the different options that might be available to them and to have this extensive range of information in one place would be very beneficial.
For those people who do not have easy access to the internet it can be challenging to find out what is available. This ‘one stop shop’ will hopefully provide lots of help and information.
This is the first event of its kind in the area.
You can find the ACT Centre on St. Michael’s Avenue, Aylsham, NR11 6YA
There is a cafe and free parking available on site.

Calling all amateur choirs to enter the Great British Prom Choir Competition Winning choir to perform Jerusalem with the National Symphony Orchestra, Annette Wardell and Only Men Aloud at Blickling Estate on 12 August. Revival Productions is delighted to announce that all amateur choirs based in or around Norfolk have the opportunity to enter a competition to perform live at the Great British Prom at Blickling Estate on 12 August.
The Great British Prom will see the National Symphony Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras in the country, perform a veritable feast of iconic and rousing anthems from all corners of the United Kingdom. Conducted by world-famous Anthony Inglis, the orchestra will be accompanied by globally renowned soprano Annette Wardell, Classical Brit Award-winning Welsh vocal group Only Men Aloud and a traditional Scottish pipe band. Furthermore, the concert will culminate in a spectacular firework display, choreographed to the music in the delightful outdoor setting of Blickling. This once in a lifetime competition is open to all
amateur choirs in or around Norfolk ; be they from colleges, Women’s Institutes, local communities or the emergency services. However, as this will be an evening performance all choir members must be over 18 years of age. Entrants are simply asked to visit www.greatbritishprom.co.uk/choir-competition, fill in the simple form and post a one minute video of them singing a song of their choice by 29 April 2017.
A shortlist of five choirs will be announced on 8 May. Anthony Inglis will have the final decision on the winning choir, taking into account the number of “likes” each member of the shortlist receives on The Great British Prom’s Facebook page. The winning choir will be announced on 14 June and will be required to attend rehearsals at Blickling on the afternoon of the concert.
In addition to singing Jerusalem during the main part of the performance with the National Symphony Orchestra, Annette Wardell and Only Men Aloud, the winning choir will also have the opportunity to perform at the start of the concert before the
main programme begins. Furthermore, they will feature in the concert programme and each member of the choir will receive a complimentary ticket for a guest to witness their performance. Anthony Inglis commented “Truly memorable live performances are those that witness a real connection between the performers and the audience. I am very much looking forward to discovering the talent of the local amateur choirs and performing with them. This competition adds an exciting dynamic to The Great British Prom, which should create a magical atmosphere and a night to remember.” Lisa Ward, Director of Revival Productions, added “We are so pleased to be returning to Blickling, where the concert has become a permanent fixture in the local social calendar. By giving amateur choirs this once in a lifetime opportunity to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra and the other amazing artists, we want to involve the local community and add something unique to the programme.”
North Norfolk District Council issues first fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping North Norfolk District Council has fined a man £200 for fly-tipping in Aylmerton. The offence took place on 24 December 2016 in a layby in ancient woodland owned by the National Trust.
A Cromer resident was caught on CCTV entering the woods on Christmas Eve with a bag of rubbish but returning later without the bag. After an interview under caution the man admitted flytipping and was served the fixed penalty notice. Cllr Angie Titch-Fillett Cabinet Member for
Environmental Services said “It is good to be able to now have on-the-spot fines in our arsenal of deterrents against fly tipping. This kind of offence blights our beautiful district and anything that might make people think twice about tipping, and choose instead to take their waste through the proper disposal routes, has got to be a good thing.” Last year new legislation meant anyone caught illegally dumping waste could face an on-the-spot penalty. From Monday 9 May 2016 local authorities were given greater powers to tackle the crime by
issuing penalty notices for £200 to those caught in the act of fly-tipping anything from old fridges or sofas to garden waste or rubble.
Introducing fixed penalty notices for fly-tipping is the latest move in a government crackdown on waste crime, which costs the economy millions of pounds-a-year in clean-up costs, undermines legitimate business, and poses serious risks to our environment. The Cromer man stated he did not know it was an offence to fly tip and admitted the offence at the earliest opportunity.

Holden MyChoice offers "Home Test Drive Service" to North Norfolk residents
Although known to many in the area for Volvo, Honda, Renault and Dacia car sales, The Norwich based Holden Group have recently launched "MyChoice" offering used cars from a variety of other manufacturers as well.
MyChoice customers not only receive main dealer levels of customer service but each car purchased comes with a minimum of 9 months MOT, 12 months warranty and will not require a service for at least 4 months or 4000 miles. In addition they also offer the next service and MOT free of charge at one of their Holden Group service centres, with collection and delivery available. Brand Manger Simon Hawkins says; "Not everyone wants to buy one of the models offered by our franchise brands. So if it's a good quality car and offers great value for money we advertise it for sale on our website and Heigham Street forecourt. If you can't get to us, we'll even bring the car out to you!"
Once you have found a vehicle of interest at holdenmychoice.co.uk you can arrange to have the car delivered to your home or work address for viewing at your convenience. An experienced advisor (not a salesman) will bring the car out and explain all of its features.
If you're considering part exchanging your old car they can take a look at that at the same time. You can specify the length of the visit in advance and they will not stay a minute longer unless asked.
"I have lived in North Norfolk all my life and I appreciate that a lot of local people either don't have the time to drive to Norwich or wouldn't feel comfortable driving an unfamiliar car on busy roads. We want to make the whole process of buying a used car as easy as possible". For those without internet access all enquiries and bookings can also be made by telephone - 01603 954499.

THE NORTH & WEST NORFOLK SOLICITORS Case study: John and Mary By Jane Arnup – Elderly Client Services, Hayes + Storr
John and Mary are in their late 80s. John has a good occupational pension but Mary has none. They have Wills leaving everything to each other and then to their son Sam. John has suffered poor physical health and Mary is becoming ‘very forgetful’. They have supported each other and have carried on living in their home. As Mary has no pension, other than State pension, they put all their savings in her name to lessen income tax. They own their bungalow.
John suffers a fall and is admitted to hospital and, as Mary cannot cope alone, she goes into temporary residential care. When John returns home from hospital, it is too much for him to manage to look after Mary too, so she stays in the care home.
The Local Authority visit John to assess Mary’s contribution to her care costs. The house is ignored, as John is living there. Mary’s state pension and the joint bank account are taken into account but the main problem is that the savings in Mary’s sole name of £80,000 are added in too, so that Mary has to pay the full cost of care.
John is advised to see a solicitor. Her advice is as follows:
John claims for Attendance Allowance from the DWP. This is non-means-tested and non-taxable.
John transfers half the money from their joint account into in a new account in his sole name. He gets all his income paid into this account.
As Mary had not made a Power of Attorney, an application to the Court of Protection is made for the appointment of a Deputy for Mary, to deal with her property and financial affairs.
Attendance Allowance is also claimed for Mary and the solicitor becomes appointee for Mary’s state pension and other benefits, until the application for Mary’s Deputy is in place.
John severs the ‘joint tenancy’ of their bungalow so his half does not automatically pass to Mary, if he dies.
John makes a new Will giving everything to their son Sam, so that John’s money and assets do not pass to Mary, to be used on care fees, in the event that John dies before Mary.
Once the Deputy appointment is through, the Deputy applies to the Court of Protection for the transfer of half of the investments back to him (£40,000).
Sadly, John dies. £40,000 of savings are paid into John’s estate. The house is sold and John’s half and everything else in John’s estate passes to Sam, under John’s Will. If John hadn’t changed his Will, his whole estate would have passed to Mary and might all have been

swallowed up in Mary’s care costs.
Mary has enough to pay for her care her from her half of the house sale proceeds so she is reasonably provided for according to the law.
The moral of the story, is that John took advice just in time, particularly as to changing his Will. It would have been even better if John and Mary had both made a Lasting Power of Attorney, as this costs much less than an application to the Court of Protection, for the appointment of a Deputy. Happily, most of the family wealth was preserved for the next generation. “This article aims to supply general information, but it is not intended to constitute advice. Walk towards a cure for Parkinson’s in Norfolk
People in Norfolk are being asked to pick up the pace against Parkinson’s this year at Walk for Parkinson’s – Blickling Estate on Saturday 13 May, one of a series of walk events to be held across the UK for Parkinson’s UK during 2017.
“I know not everyone can walk that far, which is why our Walk for Parkinson’s at Blickling Estate with a choice of distances, is perfect for everyone.
“2017 is going to be our most ambitious year yet for the Walk for Parkinson’s series. With every pound that we raise we get closer to a cure. So please join us at Blickling Estate and help us step closer to our goal of improving the lives of every person affected by
Walk for Parkinson’s offers the opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in a fun and active day out, while helping the charity step ever closer to a cure.
There are a range of distances around the grounds of the estate on offer to suit everyone, including a 2.5 mile and 5.5 mile walk to choose from.
Last year, 114 people took part in the walk at Blickling Estate to raise an impressive £11,000 between them, and the charity hopes to boost the fundraising total even more this year.
Sky Sports Presenter and Champion of Walking for Parkinson’s UK Dave Clark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s himself in 2011. Dave is encouraging as many people as possible to step up at the event.
He says “In 2016 I completed my own 200-mile Coast to Coast walk for Parkinson’s UK, it was tough but the sense of achievement when I crossed the finish line was fantastic.
Parkinson’s.”
The registration fee is £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s. Everyone who registers will receive a free Parkinson’s UK t-shirt, fundraising pack and at the end of the walk, a finishers medal.
The charity is hoping to raise over £400,000 from the 32 events, so suggests walkers aim to raise at least £50.
All money raised from Walk for Parkinson’s – Blickling Estate will help Parkinson’s UK’s work to provide support and information for people affected by Parkinson’s and to help find better treatments, and ultimately a cure.

Swallows have arrived early in North Walsham this year
Former partner in House of Hobbies, Julie Cameron, opened her new coffee shop 'Swallows' on Monday 27 February. High rates and increased internet shopping sadly forced the closure of House of Hobbies on Christmas Eve, after 20 years of trading. The coffee shop was added to the business three years ago and quickly became a real community hub. Julie decided that if the existing shop was made into two smaller shops it would be affordable for her to be able to keep one half as a coffee shop and keep this community space alive. Julie and Sharon sold the building last year and the new owners are two local men, Paul East & Neil Dyke (Divine Lettings), and they have fully supported Julie in helping her vision come to life. "It could not have happened without them and I'm so grateful" she said. The name comes from Julie's love for swallows because they are such interactive and vibrant birds. They represent love, loyalty and always return home. She likens them to her children, as they have both flown away from Norfolk, one to London and the other to Sydney. She says "I am very proud of them both and I'm really fortunate as they both fly home as often as possible." The whole coffee shop is themed around swallows in a very tasteful way. Julie's niece Lydia, who is at college and works part time in the coffee shop, designed and hand painted her new logo. As well as delicious cakes 'Swallows' is now providing light lunches. So, fly into Swallows Coffee Shop soon, soak up the relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the fantastic view of the town. Julie's partner in House of Hobbies, Sharon Humphrey, has her new business already up and running. Sharon has been sewing for over 30 years and her love for it made her decision to keep providing the alteration service to the town an easy one. Sharon is a gifted seamstress in all aspects, be it dressmaking, soft furnishing, or curtains.
You can also purchase all your haberdashery needs. The Sewing Room has been created in Sharon's garden at 90 Norwich Road, North Walsham.
Pop in or give her a call on 07713 115947.

Independent Bicycle Shop Marks First Year...
Since opening its doors in March 2016, family run business Doctor Wheelgood has been providing the local community with expert and quality service regarding anything bike. Bike doctor Tom and his Dutch wife Godelieve have always dreamt of having their own shop and after finally taking the plunge last spring it took off with a flying start and they experienced a busy summer.
Tom said, "There was clearly a need for a new local bike shop in North Walsham and it is wonderful to see cycling becoming ever more popular in the UK. Occasionally, we look back nostalgically at our Amsterdam days when I trained and worked as a mechanic in a busy bike shop in the capital's city centre. Meanwhile my wife-to-be Godelieve was flying around as a cycle courier to finance her studies. Looking for a quieter life we moved to Norfolk where I grew up, swapping flat Holland for beautiful country lanes."
Godelieve commented, "Doctor Wheelgood offers years of experience in the trade combined with a love for anything bike in a well stocked shop situated on the Mundesley Road in North Walsham. Anything from servicing & repairs, wheel and bike builds, as well as parts, accessories and cycle sales, you'll likely find what you need. Having recently joined the “Support North Walsham’s Independent Shops campaign, we’re hoping to encourage more people to shop locally and be pleasantly surprised at the great range of products and services on offer. This will, in turn, help keep the town vibrant and alive, and attract more visitors." With spring on its way, it’s that time again to get your bike out of the shed and give it some TLC. Doctor Wheelgood is ready to help you with this!

Natural skin rejuvenation and PRP for non-surgical hair loss treatments at the coltishall cosmetic clinic. If you are a fan of totally natural methods of treatment and not keen on botox, fillers or lasers, etc., then there is a solution to provide results using your own tissue.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a solution derived from whole blood that is enriched in the platelet fraction. Historically, PRP has been applied to wound beds to promote healing of complex wounds. Over the last decade, it has served as a valuable therapeutic tool in various specialties such as maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, orthopaedics and sports medicine. In recent years it has been use increasingly in addressing aesthetic medical concerns.
We have been using it for last many years when patients asked for it but remained sceptical about claims being made. Our patients who had the treatment however reported great satisfaction with it and we are excited about the recent studies that show noticeable results in treatment of hair loss. Many published studies show that patient’s experienced substantial reduction in hair loss, rate of hair loss, improved hair thickness, ease of managing/styling hair, and their hair felt coarser or heavier after the treatment.
How is PRP treatment carried out?
Your own blood is taken mixed with an anticoagulant solution and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood. These platelets are rich source of a variety of growth factors, which then stimulate your own collagen or hair follicles to grow based on what is trying to be achieved.
What it does not do?
If you are after a quick fix for example filling out lines and wrinkles PRP does not do that instantly. It improves your skin quality and collagen slowly over time. It also works on acne scars but treatments take time to show results. So this is not a quick fix. It can help thinning hair but will not grow hair on totally bald scalp either.
What is Coltishall Clinic PRP advantage?
In keeping with our philosophy of only using top quality equipment and products, we isolate super PRP using the very best equipment for platelet isolation and concentration. We use a totally closed system to guarantee sterility. A lot of cheaper alternatives are messy to use and not closed systems. We use a high spec swing type centrifuge for maximum centrifugation and plasma production. Our closed system then separates and closes off plasma from other blood components. This is put through the
centrifuge a second time to generate the highest quality of platelet rich plasma for best results. So this is a two-step process for maximising results.
What methods of PRP application do you offer in the clinic?
We offer PRP either as a standalone treatment or in combination with some other treatments such as laser resurfacing or low-level laser therapy and some medication in case of hair restoration.
What is vampire facelift or Dracula therapy?
PRP has been given various names such as these because your own blood is used for regeneration process. Whilst PRP can help in facial rejuvenation we do not endorse the term facelift, as this is misleading.
Is everyone suitable?
It is only suitable for people who are in good general health without any significant medical concerns or systemic problems.
If you wish to try this promising new natural treatment for thinning hair or for improving your skin quality using your own growth factors then give us a call on 0800 0430737 or log on to the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk

Gresham’s to host summer music course for aspiring young musicians
Musically talented children from 8-13 years are invited to take part in this year’s Britten Music Course (BMC), hosted by Gresham’s School in Holt from Tuesday 18 to Sunday 23 July.
Named after former Gresham’s pupil, Benjamin Britten, the five-day residential course offers first-class music tuition with a mix of orchestral and choral workshops and an opportunity to perform in both solo and ensemble concerts.
Now in its seventh year, the BMC is led by former Monteverdi Choir member, Tom Appleton, and Gresham’s own team of teaching, support and boarding staff. The
week will come to an end with a fantastic crescendo as the children perform Carl Orff’s hugely popular Carmina Burana together with a specially formed adult choir as part of the opening day of the 2017 Holt Festival.
Children joining the course will also have the opportunity to visit Aldeburgh in Suffolk to give a recital on the iconic stage in Britten’s concert hall, Snape Maltings, and to recreate some of Britten’s music on the islands on Thorpeness Meare. Plenty of activities ranging from a pizza night to a visit to an awardwinning north Norfolk beach are also offered during the fun-packed week.
For the first time, course participants will be able to make the most of Gresham’s new Britten Building, a state of the art Music School which will offer modern and comfortable
practice and performance spaces, a new 140 seat auditorium and a recording studio.
Fiona Ross, BMC organiser and Gresham’s Music Administrator, said “I am delighted that Gresham’s is again able to offer this fantastic experience for young musicians to develop their talent in a wonderfully creative environment. If you’re an aspiring young musician, want to make new friends and have lots of musicmaking fun, the Britten Music Course is definitely for you.
The cost for this extraordinary week of music-making and fun is £350 which includes accommodation at Gresham’s Prep School in Holt, food, tuition and music.
For more information, please see www.greshams.com/bmc or contact Fiona Ross at fross@greshams.com
CHORAL SOCIETY SHOWCASES YOUNG SOLOISTS AT mezzo soprano and Simon Mulligan, baritone. PRE-EASTER CONCERT
Preparations are well underway for Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society’s next concert in Cromer Parish Church on Saturday 8 April at 7.30 pm. The performance will mark the eve of Holy Week with an evening of French reflective music by DuruflÊ and Poulenc. Conducted by David Ballard the major work will be Maurice DuruflÊ’s Requiem with organ accompaniment by Anthony Gowing.
Over recent years the choir has frequently worked closely with young singers to encourage them in their musical careers and they continue this tradition by introducing two talented young performers Charli Andrews,
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society
Charli Andrews is currently studying Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University. Alongside this she continues her music studies under the tutorage of Carole Tims and is currently singing with the Cambridge Philharmonic choir, most recently performing in a semi-staged version of Verdi's opera "Falstaff". Later in the year, she will be performing with the choir at both Kings College and Ely Cathedral. Before moving to Cambridge, Charli spent 11 years with the Broadland Youth Choir, the last of which she was Head Chorister.
Simon Mulligan is currently a student at Margaret Howard Theatre College in Watford, North West London, where he is studying Performance Training in Musical Theatre. He has been singing from a young age, both in Musical Theatre performances and choirs, performing a range of contemporary and classical music. During August 2016, he made his West End Debut at London’s Ambassador’s Theatre, in a production of The Secret Garden. He is currently rehearsing a production of Grand Hotel, to be performed in Valetta, Malta, in early June 2017.
Tickets are on sale now at Sheringham Little Theatre telephone 01263 822347 or online at www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com They can also be purchase in person at both K Hardware Cromer (opposite the venue) and Cromer Tourist Information Office.

Call out for artists to take part in popular sculpture trail
Applications are now open for artists to apply to take part in a popular sculpture trail which is set return to south Norfolk this August.
to feel magical as the snowdrops and aconites are starting to flower in the orchard.
The Waveney Valley Sculpture Trail annually attracts thousands of visitors to the region to see the work of artists from around the country.
“My overall vision is to continue to encourage public interaction with contemporary art in a rural setting and to this end we would like to invite applications from artists and sculptors keen to respond to this beautiful site.”
Organised by Waveney & Blyth Arts, the event, which has taken place at the River Waveney Study Centre near Bungay for the past three years, will this year take place at The Raveningham Centre, four miles south of Loddon.
All artwork on the trail will be available for sale and there will be an opportunity to sell cards, prints and books related to the artwork.
The trail is part of ‘Celebrate the Waveney & Blyth 2017’, an annual programme of events that highlight the unique character of the two valleys situated in north Suffolk and south Norfolk.
This year there will be two awards for participating artists, The Visitor’s Choice award and The Curator’s Choice award.

The Raveningham Centre offers a very different location with new opportunities for site specific work and sculpture in the grounds of Castell Farm, a Tudor farmhouse with an old orchard and kitchen gardens.
Over the years Raveningham has become known as a unique venue for a number of arts activities including Festival in the Garden, Easter Folk Day, Antiques Fairs and Musical Events.

Nicky Stainton from Waveney & Blyth Arts said "We are very excited by the opportunities that the new site at Raveningham will bring to the Waveney Sculpture Trail.
“The site is very different to previous years and includes an orchard, pond, shrubberies and lawn areas, which will provide a wonderful variety of spaces for artists to respond to.
Offer valid until March 31st 2017
“There are a lot of other attractions on offer with the Ravenous Cafe, East India Trading Company's wonderful rugs, Cannell Antiques, Helen Howes Textile Artist and other units nearby. Visitors will discover a real treasure trove."

not in conjunction with any other offer
In 2016 more than 3,250 visitors visited the trail to see the work of 45 artists, generating around £7,000 worth of sales.
Both established and up-and-coming artists are encouraged to apply to take part in the 2017 trail.
Curator Sarah Cannell said “I am thrilled to be curating the sculpture trail again and am really looking forward to the challenges of the new space. I can’t wait to start working with new and familiar artists on the project to develop ideas over the next few months. We have a lot more work to get the site ready for the public, in a similar way to the first year at the Earsham site, but it’s already started

Norman Lamb MP backs breathing space for families in problem debt
Norman Lamb, MP for North Norfolk, has backed calls for a new scheme to help thousands of families regain control of their finances as data from the Bank of England shows unsecured household debt rising at its fastest rate since the financial crisis.
Debt often strikes when people experience sudden changes in circumstances such as job loss or ill health. Aggressive action from creditors and pressure to repay debts at an unaffordable rate can lead families to cut back on everyday essentials like food, take out other, expensive loans or fall further behind on essential bills. The rise in personal borrowing has led to mounting concern that households who get into debt need safer ways to manage financial difficulties.
In the constituency of North Norfolk, an estimated 2,069 families with 3,604 children are living with problem debt. Analysis from The Children’s Society shows that children in low-income families with multiple debts are more likely to
suffer from mental health problems than equivalent families with fewer debts.
Norman has joined calls in parliament to introduce a ‘Breathing Space’ scheme – supported by The Children’s Society and StepChange Debt Charity - that would offer people seeking debt advice a 12-month legal protection from mounting interest, charges and enforcement action. It would build on protections offered under the Debt Arrangement Scheme in Scotland, which has made sure that families sticking to an affordable repayment plan agreed with their creditors are not harried or hassled for the duration of that plan.
Commenting, Norman said “It can't be right that children's mental health and happiness is
Local MP Norman Lamb has tabled a written motion in Parliament to celebrate the work of Flood Wardens on the North Norfolk coast
Community flood wardens are volunteers who monitor tide levels and weather conditions for potential risk of flooding. They play a crucial role in ensuring that local residents are aware of flood warnings and, when evacuations are necessary, support vulnerable people to reach a place of safety and provide assistance at evacuation centres.
During the extreme weather conditions in January, flood wardens were out working with North Norfolk District Council officers in areas at high risk of flooding such as Bacton, Walcott, and Wells-nextthe-Sea.
Commenting after tabling the motion, North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb said “Flood wardens are some of the unsung heroes of our county. We often hear of the excellent work of the emergency services and the army during flood warnings, and rightly so, but much less is said about the vital role of flood wardens. “I tabled this motion in Parliament to place on record our gratitude to those who selflessly give up their own time, often in the most horrendous weather conditions, to protect the local community and keep people safe during floods.” North Walsham Times 514 March 11th 2017
suffering as a result of creditors unfairly escalating people’s debt problems.
“Families in problem debt need time and space to get back on their feet. By providing a period free from additional interest, charges and enforcement action, a new Breathing Space scheme would help families recover their financial situation and put in place a plan to affordably repay their debts.
“I’m pleased that the Breathing Space proposal has widespread cross-party support, including from the Work and Pensions Select Committee and the APPG on Debt and Personal Finance. The Government now needs to act by putting a comprehensive Breathing Space scheme in place.”

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
At this time of the year, Stephanie gets lots of calls from people whose cats have gone missing and are hoping that we have taken them into care. Unfortunately, the likelihood of this happening so quickly, is very rare.
Invariably, the cats are young males that have not been neutered and have therefore disappeared in search of female cats. These cats can, and will, travel miles and, being so focused on finding a female, will have a complete disregard for their own safety. They take their lives in their paws crossing busy roads and also getting into fights with other likeminded cats, some of which may have been infected with FIV or FELV. They often lose their bearings and cannot find their way home, ending up as strays and surviving as best they can until someone

VACCINATION AMNESTY!
Following the recent outbreak of Parvovirus in Norwich we are offering to re-start any dogs with lapsed vaccinations for the same price as an annual booster. Parvovirus is a potentially fatal disease, but one that can be prevented with regular vaccination. We have now extended our amnesty into March this year. For more information please contact the surgery on 01692 403202 Westover Veterinary Centre 40 Yarmouth Rd, North Walsham, Norfolk NR28 9AT

realises their plight and contacts us or another similar charity. All the heartache could have been avoided if only their owners had got them neutered. Contacting us for help with this is a far better option.
One of the consequences of not getting cats neutered is the number of unwanted kittens that come into our care and, at present, we have several nice “Birdie, caught in the act? young cats that either arrived No he does use his litter tray! from a colony or were found living outside. Although they are used to their fosterer and her family (and all love having lots of cuddles from them) they tend to hide when strangers visit. One such cat is Birdie, who joined us from a local business site when the workers felt he was in danger of being hurt. He is a little bossy boots with his companions and, as can be seen here, full of mischief. These young cats will all make lovely pets but need slightly more time to settle. If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.
If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.
We are now on Facebook. You can find us under Cats Protection North Walsham.

North Walsham Table Tennis Handicap Cup exits for NWSCA and NWSCB
Jonas Lee (0) joined brother Brian (28) and Georgy Bezarashvilli (37) as Gresham’s School B hosted NWSCB’s Dennis Elliott (16), Richard Porritt (18) and Werner Zivna (20) in their second round Handicap Doubles Cup tie. The first half of the match saw wins in alternate order with the visitors twice levelling before the Lees (14) beat Elliott and Porritt (17) 51-34 to move the School 3-2 ahead. The pattern was broken as Brian Lee and Bezarashvilli (32) won the golden point against Porritt and Zivna (16) as their 51-50 win moved the host’s one win from the quarterfinals at 4-2 ahead. However NWSCB fought back to take the next two tussles to set up a deciding encounter which pitted the Lee brothers (14) against Porritt and Zivna (16) and the Lees won 51-34 to seal Gresham School B’s 5-4 win. Also in the second round, NWSCA’s John Vaughan (15), Tom BaldockYaxley (5) and Andy Beane (10) hosted
Mundesley B’s Thomas Rooke (37), Paul Gotts (35) and Connor Gotts (45). Rooke and Connor Gotts (41) won a key fourth encounter against Baldock-Yaxley and Beane (7) 51-49 to move the visitors 3-1 ahead and the close games continued as Mundesley went on to win the tie 5-3 and knock out the defending champions. While NWSCF conceded their tie to Aylsham Enterprise, NWSCE’s James Lester (29), Andrew Weston (37) and Ben Lester (35) hosted Aylsham Albion’s John Hall (36), Fletcher Dyson (35) and Becky Wood (35) with the handicapping seeing the two teams start in the early thirties and never more than three points apart. Another close contest resulted – after the tie was poised at 2-2, NWSCE went on to win 7-2.
There has also been plenty of League activity. In the Second Division, Aylsham Conqueror’s Roger Crouch, Steve Hollingworth and Ken
Just one fixture since the last report and the Vikings maintained their good form defeating Fullerians at Scottow 33 -15 (pictured).
At 26 - 3 soon after half time, they looked to be heading for a big victory, but they were then badly disrupted by injuries and the visitors fought back strongly meaning the Vikings had to show great resilience to get the win. Winners in seven of their last eight, they ended February in fourth, five points behind third placed Chingford. Tring remain top with Brentwood, whom the Vikings visit on 1 March, second. With six matches left, they have already won fourteen games, as many as last season when finishing sixth.
