Comic Relief at Manor Road Schools
The children at North Walsham Junior and Infant Schools were surprised when a trolley full of red noses arrived to surprise them last month!
The generous staff from Sainsburys brought a red nose for every child in school.
The children's School Council had planned for a day of 'mad hair' for all the children and staff and there were plenty of extreme, fun and imaginative examples on display. Over £400 was raised for the charity Comic Relief and the children were thanked for their generosity in the assembly at the end of the day.
Prizes for the most creative hairdos were handed out by The School Council - they had a difficult job selecting from some astonishing entrants!
Teaching children about how they can support those less fortunate through fundraising for charities, is an important part of the school's curriculum and develops children's understanding of citizenship and responsibility. It also helps to get the message across when everyone can take part in some fun and 'let their hair down' too!

Dear People of North Walsham and District I once again find myself needing to beg for help.
2110 (North Walsham) Squadron of the Air Training Corps are desperately in need of help. Not financial, though of course this is always welcome, but time and ideas.
The Civilian Committee is a statutory body formed to assist the Squadron Commander in the running of the Squadron and without which the Squadron cannot function. We meet just 3 - 4 times a year and the meetings last no more than a couple of hours.
At the moment, the committee consists of just three members together with three ex officios and as you can imagine this is insufficient to do the job properly.
So please, please if you can be of any help in anyway contact the Squadron Commander Flt Lt A Stevenson 01692 503033 on meeting nights Monday and Thursday or on e mail at oc2110@aircadets.org.
Thank you, Bob Barker, Civilian Committee Secretary

NORTH WALSHAM PROBUS Norfolk has many fascinating features and one of them is that one may live in the area , perhaps for a considerable time, yet be unaware of much of the history and tradition which has shaped the lives of earlier generations. Such was the impact of Robert Smith’s presentation to the Club last month. Robert is presently Harbour Master at Wells Harbour, a post he has held since 2002, having been employed by the Harbour Commissioners for 28 years. Originally, his ambition was to join the Royal Navy. He is employed by the Harbour Commissioner, a voluntary body comprising10 volunteers. There is a Harbour Users Advisory Committee which meets bi-annually to advise on harbour matters. It is purely an advisory body without any executive powers. Early records reveal that a Charter was granted by King John in 1202 allowing import facilities. Given the ports proximity to the Continent this offered trading opportunities to the area. The
smaller boats and the shallower draught also meant that they could gain access to the river inlets

This appears to have been an eventful period for Wells for two women were fined threepence for selling fish to ‘foreigners’, (they came from Walsingham)! A stark reminder of the cruelty of the justice system was the record of an eight year old boy sentenced to transportation to Australia for the theft of a bag of nails.
In the village of Frettenham, between Buxton and Spixworth, can be found a relatively new attraction of interest to those wishing to remember our military past. Starting from one portacabin of artefacts recovered from the crash site of a B24 Liberator called ‘The Belle of Boston" by the proprietor Mr Trevor Hewitt, the collection has grown to five portacabins and a barn converted to two extensive display halls.
Exhibits extend from World War 1 items from The Somme through to present day, mostly consisting of recovered aircraft wreckage of various types including a Trident that crashed onto Felthorpe airfield in the early 1960s.
Antingham Village Hall
Our AGM was held on 16 March when three members of the public attended - it is unfortunate that there is very little interest from our village in how the hall is run. It costs approximately £325 per month to run the hall even if it stood empty although we have good usage of the hall including by Gateway, Countrysiders Club , Indoor Carpet Bowls, Line Dancing, Table Tennis, Pigeon Club, Band Practice, Cash Bingo, Quiz Evenings, Parish Council Meetings, Polling Station, Flower Arranging Club and Private Hire (private parties, weddings, anniversaries etc) The three members of public were all elected onto the committee for which we were all very grateful, especially as the existing committee is ageing and new younger blood is needed. • • • • •

Not surprisingly, Hole in One this wealth led to corruption when the port was under the control of local merchants and aristocracy. The beginning of the seventeenth century led to the local inhabitants pleading for an Act of Parliament, which led to the forming of the Harbour Commissioners.

Apparently, Robert’s own family almost fell victim to the brutality of the justice system, when an ancestor, during the seventeenth century, accidentally shot a Customs officer, and was conveyed to Norwich goal. He escaped hanging because of his alleged knowledge of the smuggling activities of the Prime Minister, Robert Walpole.
Finally, it is impossible to leave the subject of the port without referring to the wind farms. One of the positive results was that during the period of their erection, fishing was prohibited but it did lead to larger subsequent catches, because of the opportunity of allowing the fish to breed. Ted Gadsden
We also have various military uniforms including a Vietnamese fighters uniform. The group now has approximately 25 members and is non profit making. We are now open the second Sunday of the month, March through December with free admission. Of course any donations are gratefully accepted, weather monetary or display items to enlarge our collection. The group would like to thank North Norfolk District Council for their cooperation with our latest project, the mid air collision between the Victor tanker and Canberra. Masses of Canberra artefacts have been recovered. We are now in the process of tracing Victor debris - any help would always be welcome. Our thanks also go to any eyewitnesses that have helped us so far.

Trustees needed for local charity Have you been wondering about volunteering some time for a good cause, but want to use your particular gifts and skills?
Newly retired with some energy and enthusiasm, or in work but wanting to ‘give something back’ to your community?
Age Concern North Norfolk is a self-funded charity, based in Sheringham, working for the benefit of older people across central North Norfolk. It supports people aged 50+ (some with dementia) by providing a Day Services Hub, lunch club, Keep In Touch clubs, intergenerational activities and a Drop In/ Befriending service.
If you have financial, human resources or past business expertise, your skills will be particularly valuable, but we welcome expressions of interest from all individuals who are willing to commit approximately 3-4 hours a month to volunteering with us as a Trustee.
Trustees usually serve for a period of three years and then can stand for re-election for a further period. You will be joining a team of dedicated people who will offer support whether you are new to this kind of volunteering or whether you are a seasoned volunteer.
We will value your unique skills and innovative ideas, together with support for fund raising events.
We currently hold trustee meetings once a month on a Thursday afternoon, and meet for a shared lunch beforehand at the Day Services Hub in Sheringham.
Full information on what being a trustee involves is available at www.gov.uk/government/organisations/charity-commission If you are interested, please contact us on 01263 821188 or ageuknn.admin@xlninternet.co.uk Jennie Cummings-Knight, Chair
Books and Pancakes at Worstead Pre School
The children at Worstead Pre School enjoyed dressing up and reading about their favourite book characters on World Book Day. They then had their usual weekly multi-sports session, which included moving (and some children singing) like their character! There were lots of interesting characters this year, from the girl in 'Dogs Don't Do Ballet' to 'Dinosaurs love underpants!'
On Shrove Tuesday they had more fun when they poured, weighed, mixed and whisked to make their own pancakes - and then enjoyed eating them! To burn off all the lovely food they had pancake races and even learnt how to toss them!
If you would like to visit pre school with a view to your child starting or put them on our waiting list, please telephone Sue or Paula on 01692 535692, or visit our website for information at: www.worsteadpreschool.co.uk

Celebrating the life of Humphry Repton
The life and work of landscape gardener Humphry Repton is set to be celebrated through a photography competition, launched by the National Trust’s Sheringham Park.
As part of the build-up to 2018 and the 200 year anniversary of the death of Repton, Sheringham Park is joining forces with the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition to search for images taken at places he helped design.
Repton was involved in more than 300 commissions across the country including several in the east of England. As well as Sheringham Park, he was involved in the design of the Holkham Estate, Catton Park and at Bracondale in Norwich. Further afield, the National Trust’s Wimpole in Cambridgeshire, Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire, Harewood House in West Yorkshire and Russell Square in London all bear the mark of Humphry Repton.
However, it was Sheringham Park that he considered as his most favourite work, stating in the Red Book design for the park “Sheringham possessed more natural beauty and local advantages than any place I have ever seen”.

Malcolm Fisher, Visitor Services Manager at Sheringham Park is looking forward to seeing the best images from the competition on display in 2018.
“I am very much aware how much the Repton views are still enjoyed today here at Sheringham Park, and it will be fascinating to see images from right across the country showing the impact he still has on the landscape 200 years on from his death.”
Tyrone McGlinchey, Managing Director of International Garden Photographer of the Year said “Making the connection between photography and unique green spaces, whilst encouraging public engagement with the natural world is one of our main objectives. We’re really excited to launch this special award, create these connections and share the beauty of plants and gardens through the lens of a truly great landscape gardener.”
An exhibition of the images from the competition will form a part of the 2018 celebrations and it is hoped that the competition will inspire many photographers right across the country to go out and enjoy the work of Humphry Repton. The competition was launched on the anniversary of Repton’s death 24 March 2017 - to enter visit: https://igpoty.com/competitions/humphry-repton-2017
There are National Trust vouchers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, plus winning images will also be published in the beautiful annual book of International Garden Photographer of the Year Competition.

This series of beautifully-lit, high magnification portraits captures the microscopic form of insects in striking high-resolution detail. Displayed as large scale photographic prints up to 3m high, the Microsculpture project provides the viewer with a unique opportunity to study and appreciate this hidden world. Weybourne Camp, Muckleborough Hill and Kelling Water Meadow on Sunday 23 April 9am – 1pm Moss Taylor will lead a walk around an area which is famous for migrant birds, but which is largely inaccessible to the general public. We will leave the Muckleborough Collection car-park at 9am, explore a variety of habitats within Weybourne Camp, then visit Kelling Water Meadows and return back over Muckleborough Hill. We have scheduled the walk to (hopefully) catch a nice range of spring migrants, but birding at migration time is always highly weatherdependent. This is a moderate walk over varied terrain (some of it possibly wet), with a short climb over Muckleborough Hill. Stout footwear is essential. We will return to the car-park between 12noon and 1pm. The Muckleborough Collection has facilities and a cafe. The Muckleborough Collection is just to the west of Weybourne Village, and the entrance is off the A149 coast road by Foxhills Campsite. Go through the gates (which will be open from 0830), proceed along the straight drive and turn right at the V1 doodlebug and long white building into the clearly marked carpark. The post-code for sat-navs is NR25 7EH. As usual,
children are welcome if accompanied by well-behaved adults, but we regret no dogs. Andy Clarke will co-lead.
Birdwatching Holidays on a Budget - Trevor Williams Thursday 27 April 7.30pm – 9.30pm For those on a modest budget, who want to make the best of the birding opportunities on a foreign trip, this talk introduces a dozen or so potential venues for a birding holiday. Venue - Aylmerton Village Hall, NR11 8PX. Please park along Church Road or in the overflow car park at the church. Please ensure that local residents can still access their driveways and there is sufficient clearance for agricultural vehicles to use the road. A torch might also be helpful, as the village has no street lighting. To keep the club's carbon footprint small, please consider car sharing.
North Norfolk Chorale to perform for Holy Week
During Holy Week the North Norfolk Chorale will sing excerpts from Handel’s Messiah at St Nicholas’s Church, North Walsham on Wednesday 12 April at 6.30pm. This will be an act of worship so there is no admission fee - a retiring collection will be held in aid of Church and Choir funds.
Jonathan Dodd, Musical Director of North Norfolk Chorale, said “the Messiah is so popular it needs no introduction from me. We shall be performing a selection of movements that give a good flavour of the work. And of course it will include the Hallelujah Chorus! Do come – everyone is most welcome”.

The North Norfolk Property Market
Can you afford to ignore it? By Richard Hewitt, Director, Hayes + Storr
Why now? A wise old client once said that she disliked pensions, preferring to see and touch her investments. Many now agree - 0.0%, or thereabouts, sitting in a bank is not at all "interesting", with demand strong for all types of property. Whilst we are threatened by City money skewing our market, there are plenty of
opportunities being exploited by locals.
The banks A key to stress-free property investment is to minimise the need for bank finance. Banks can make life awkward and whilst interest rates may be low, upfront survey and arrangement fees are often not! Some clients achieve ‘bank free’ developments, where landowner, developer, contractor and purchaser share in the risk and reward all relying on the sale of the completed build, as the time to get paid.
The frenzy Currently, our local towns can resemble a gold rush with swathes of land promoted for valuable development – see Cromer, Holt, Fakenham and Swaffham for example – with plenty of companies and individuals understandably jumping on the bandwagon! Whether the frenzy makes sense in the long-term is debatable. Tensions are felt very locally, as important landscapes are threatened by "grand designs", and village tranquillity lost to the new outlying housing estate. However, it is certainly capable of making money for anyone involved.
Is it for you? So, what about individuals thinking of bricks and mortar pension pots? One or two cautionary points; such purchases are relatively expensive with higher stamp duty and the cost of upgrading properties to make them fit to rent out. If you do need to Employment Law borrow, whilst Planning & mortgages are widely available, including Development equity release Agriculture and ‘buy to let’ Commercial Property options, these are Landlord & Tenant administratively Disputes time-consuming and complicated.

The Aim Find a well-built property. Avoid flats and apartments if possible as they involve monthly maintenance fees and restrictions on use. Such restrictions can prohibit some rental options.
The work All services and facilities must be checked and up-to-date. Please research your duties as a residential landlord. Take time to choose a decent tenant and visit your property regularly.
The taxman Once the rent is flooding in, do not forget the taxman!
Interested? If all the above seems daunting, perhaps it is not for you? But if that new build in your large garden or a cute Victorian terrace appeals to you, then why not?
What now? Contact the local agent, the savvy broker, the clever accountant or thorough insurance broker – or even your experienced local property solicitor! Tapping the knowledge held locally can be a good first step! Richard Hewitt is an experienced property solicitor based in Sheringham, who leads a small but expert team at Hayes + Storr, looking after clients throughout the area.

Facebook Fun Funds Friends
For the third year running, Ann Lown has raised money amongst her family and friends for the Cromer-based charity About with Friends.
Ann - ably assisted by husband Malcolm - uses her facebook page to run a photo competition for facebook friends to play. In the past this has included mystery places (Where the Dowst?), mystery objects (What the Dowst?) and last year Who the Dowst? - carefully disguised photos of celebrities. Each time an answer is guessed correctly, Ann puts a pound in her pot and she asks the guesser to do the same.
In the past the Lowns have bought a pair of digital cameras for the charity and a projector Ann Lown and AwF members with some of the and large format screen prints that will decorating the new unit so they can show movies at their base. Now that 2016’s money has been collected, Ann dropped by to hand over a cheque for £603. The money is to be used towards decorating and kitting out their new unit for members who need a little extra support. This building will include a games room, sensory room, chill-out zone and kitchen area. Some of the money has already been used to buy some lovely canvas prints of the bespoke members.
About With Friends Ann Lown hands over the pot of money is a fun, active and to AwF members energetic charity based in Cromer. We offer children, young people and adults with learning disabilities the chance to lead the lives they choose. When they become part of our family they have opportunities to develop lasting friendships; engage in fun and active social activities; get involved in the community; have the chance to try new experiences; learn new skills both for life and work; but above all feel a valued part of society while enjoying life to the full.

Big Society Award winners announced Winners named at Sheringham Little Theatre ceremony Volunteers who have helped improve their communities were thanked publicly as they were named winners in the Big Society Awards during a ceremony at Sheringham Little Theatre last month. North Norfolk District Council organised the Big Society Awards to thank the people and the projects that help to create a strong community.
Cllr Tom FitzPatrick, Leader of North Norfolk District Council and Chairman of the Big Society Fund Panel, said “It has been a pleasure watching such deserving people come here tonight for recognition. The winners are of course hugely deserving, but so are the other finalists who may not have won, but should leave here full of pride at their efforts and achievements.” Cllr John Lee, Chairman of North Norfolk District Council, acted as Master of Ceremonies at the event.
He said “The purpose of the evening was to celebrate, recognise and honour a type of work that so often goes unseen and unrecognised – volunteering. We say thank you to some of those innovative projects, but especially those people, that help to build a strong community spirit in the area, all for no payment. We have heard stories of determination and hard graft; long term planning and dynamic working. We have also heard stories of heart rending effort in the most difficult and dangerous of circumstances.”

New Life for the carpets, upholstery and vinyl at the Salvation Army
It has been a wonderfully busy start to the year at New Life Cleaning Ltd. So many customers took advantage of our recent offer of ‘free underlay with every carpet order’, that we extended it into March.
Having continued to expand as a family based company, dedicated to achieving great results and personal customer service, we now carry out an array of different cleaning services for a broad spectrum of people and business’s, both local and further afield. A recent job carried out at the Sheringham Salvation Army embodies, very well, the wide range of Services we now provide.
We were kept very busy for a number of days by Sheringham Salvation Army cleaning carpets, vinyl, upholstery and carrying out carpet repairs. The three of us - Leonard, Matthew and I - cleaned the flooring throughout the 350m2+ building along with nearly 200 chairs in the auditorium, achieving fantastic results as you can see here below .....
Using our low moisture carpet cleaning system the carpets were given a new lease of life and the much loved and busy building was up and running again with minimal disruption. The upholstery hosted a number of different stains all of which were successfully tackled with our hot water extraction machine, which achieves optimum results with our detergent free and eco-friendly solutions. A job of this nature takes some planning and a willingness to work closely with your customer so you can meet their specific needs. It is great to be carrying out our services for such a key local ....Thomas Perrott organisation that does so much for the Sheringham community.

The Prince’s Countryside Fund is seeking inspirational rural projects for grant programme At a time of great uncertainty for farming and rural communities, The Prince’s Countryside Fund has opened for grant applications. With grants of up to £50,000 available per project totalling over £600,000, rural organisations and communities are being encouraged by the Fund to consider applying for funding to support their countryside projects.
Set up by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2010 the charity has now awarded grants to over 200 projects across the UK totally over £8 million. The grant programme tackles a wide range of rural issues including support and business advice for traditional farming families, career support and training opportunities for young people and support for communities to run vital community services. This March, applications are being particularly welcomed from community shops, pubs and innovative projects intended to alleviate rural isolation.
Clare Crookenden, Grant Manager, said “The Prince’s Countryside Fund is seeking applications from creative and inspirational projects right across the UK. We are keen to encourage more applicants from the East of England. I would encourage anyone thinking of applying to visit our website to find out more about our grant programme and read our eligibility guidance.”
The Fund has assisted a hugely diverse range of projects which range from providing funding to assist young people travelling to work or apprenticeships in Norfolk, training opportunities in rural careers such as reed and sedge cutting and helping community groups to take ownership of, and run, local services. Projects supported by the Fund fall into several key areas: • Providing training opportunities and apprenticeship schemes for those seeking a career in agriculture. • Providing support and advice to community shops to keep rural communities thriving. • Helping rural enterprises and farm businesses to become more economically viable. • Supporting farmers experiencing financial hardship and severe stress.

Shameful lack of progress moving learning disabilities and autism care into the community - Norman Lamb
Norman Lamb MP is demanding urgent action to reduce the number of people with learning disabilities and autism stuck in big institutions, following serious concerns highlighted in the recent Channel 4 Dispatches documentary about the care given to people with these conditions.
‘Under Lock and Key’, which aired on Channel 4 earlier this month, revealed that thousands of people with severe learning disabilities and autism are still stuck in hospitals, despite promises to reduce the number of people in these settings. Experts have long called for people with these conditions to receive support from local, personalised care providers in the community, rather than big impersonal institutions, which reduce independence and harm recovery.
The programme also discovered serious concerns about the care in one of Britain’s largest mental health centres, St Andrew’s in Northampton, including heavy use of face-down restraint, seclusion, and antipsychotic medication in both adults and children.
Fauzia Yasmin Hussain, who has autism and Tourette’s, was admitted to St Andrew’s at the age of 15. She was kept mostly in seclusion, in a room with very little natural daylight, and
01692 405301
ND ME M CO RE
was given high doses of anti-psychotic drugs including intramuscular injection. After her family raised concerns about her care with Norman Lamb, who was then Care Minister, he visited St Andrew’s and was appalled at how she was being treated.
He said in the documentary “I went to St Andrew’s and saw Fauzia in her room, which in effect was a cell. A 15-year-old girl was being treated in effect like a prisoner. It was one of the most shocking things that I’ve seen in my time in parliament. Just as a human being I was horrified.”
Mr Lamb initiated a review of her care, which ultimately led to her being discharged in September 2014 after almost two years in the institution. She now receives high-quality care at Alderwood Care Home in Colchester, coming home to visit her family once a month. Her condition and quality of life has improved dramatically.
Norman Lamb has now written to the Chief Executive of NHS England, Simon Stevens, to request a meeting to discuss care for people with learning disabilities and autism, along with Fauzia’s aunt, Dr Shahana Hussain, and Dulwich MP Helen Hayes, who also appeared in the programme.
Commenting, Norman Lamb said “It is
shameful that there are still so many children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism who are stuck in institutions and treated as second class citizens. Submitting young people to face-down restraint, seclusion and sedation is unacceptable and has no place in our NHS. In my view, it is a significant abuse of human rights. I struggle to think of anything less therapeutic or more detrimental to good care and recovery. I was absolutely horrified by what I witnessed when I visited St Andrews. Fauzia was a young, vulnerable girl who was in care funded by the state and was being badly let down. She was being robbed of her dignity and independence. Fortunately, I was in a position to initiate a review which led to her discharge but there are too many people who are treated in this way. We set a new ambition to reduce the number of people stuck in institutional settings by providing better support in the community. We also published a Green Paper before the election proposing new legal rights for people to challenge decisions about their care and to have more control over the resources available for their care. But progress has been far too slow and the Government has not legislated to give people these rights. I have asked for a meeting with Simon Stevens to discuss how we can end this scandalous situation.”

Public information secures penalty for dog fouling couple North Norfolk District Council issues fixed penalty notice for dog fouling in West Runton A couple from Weybourne has been fined £60 for not bagging and binning their dog’s mess.
The offence took place in Water Lane, West Runton on 24 January and was captured on CCTV but it was the quick thinking of local business owners that ensured there was sufficient evidence to issue a fixed penalty notice (FPN).
Louise O’Shea and her partner Martin Hipkin, who run West Runton Café, witnessed the offence and took down the number plate of the vehicle driven by the couple. This information, along with the footage of the offence, was given to North Norfolk District Council. Louise said “No one wants to walk along the road
Put a Spring in your step with Animal Magic Dog Club
A walk with your dog on a bright spring day can be energising after the long, dark, winter months. Although we escaped winter quite lightly it’s still uplifting to see the days lengthening and the Daffodils in bloom.
If you encounter livestock on your walk it’s important to remember that after being kept indoors over the winter, they can be excitable and inquisitive when first let out to graze. For dog owners and farmers alike safety is a priority and you must keep your dog under control at all times.
Here’s our top tips for walking safely where animals are grazing: • Always keep your dog under close control and on a lead where livestock is present. • Don‘t allow your dog to bark at or chase livestock. • When approaching grazing animals talk out loud so that they are aware of your presence - this way you are less likely to startle them. Once you reach them, walk quietly past and praise your dog for ignoring them. • Avoid lingering between mothers and their offspring, even a cuddly looking sheep can become defensive of her lamb if she feels threatened. • Always keep your eyes peeled for potential dangers, try to find an alternative route around the livestock especially if your dog is elderly or slow. • Consider attending Obedience on Walks classes so that you can train your dog to be well behaved and reliable in order to have an enjoyable walk. • Remember, people have been killed by cattle, keep yourself safe and your dog under close control at all times.
Animal Magic Dog Club based near North Walsham is a fun, family orientated club offering a wide range of training for puppies, junior and adult dogs.
For more information on the club and classes available visit our web site www.animal-magix.co.uk or call Kathy on 01263 720730.
and stand in dog mess, it’s just not nice.
“As the owners of a café and car park near the beach we are really keen to assist the council in any way. We have to work together to make our environment and the place we live clean and tidy.”
The fixed penalty notice was for £80, reduced to £60 for early payment
Cllr Angie Fitch Tillett, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said “This just shows that if we work together we can tackle dog fouling. We want to thank Louise and Martin for their help and encourage others to report dog fouling with as much detail as possible. “We hope this fine sends a clear message to any irresponsible dog owners out there that not cleaning up after your dog will not be tolerated by our communities.” Cllr Sarah Butikofer, Ward Member for the
Runtons, said “I am delighted that by working together members of the local community and the Council have been able to take action against those who fail to clean up after their animals. “Almost everyone loves dogs but not their mess, and this action sends a clear message to anyone not acting responsibly.” The offence was failure to comply with ‘The Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2008’ and Sections 55, 56, 57 of the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005. The order covers all land open to the air and to which the public are entitled or permitted to have access (with or without payment).
If a dog fouls at any time on land to which the Order applies and a person who is in charge of the dog at that time fails to remove the faeces from the land immediately, that person shall be guilty of an offence.

Mini face-lift surgery rises in popularity
Cosmetic medicine and surgery goes through trends. First, we had skin only facelifts and then we had an era of deeply invasive tight ‘wind-tunnel’ look type facelifts. Now we are in an era of over-filling the face - although we do not do this at the Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic.
Whilst non-surgical options such as botox, fillers and lasers are very effective for early signs of facial ageing, they cannot tighten a lot of loose skin. A surgical face or neck-lift entails removing this excess skin. For natural looking results, we do not need to over-tighten the face and neck. We can just tighten it a little and add some volume with fillers of fat transfer and use lasers to improve the skin. Such combination yields superior results and is much better than too much of fillers or surgery alone. Why awake face-lift? Many cosmetic surgery patients do not want to go under general anaesthesia. Being under general anaesthesia can

be associated with risks. Nausea, vomiting, breathing problems and sluggishness for days afterwards can result. Those who have been there, say recovering from a general is like being hit by a truck. Operations under general anaesthesia also tend to have prolonged bruising and recovery involved.
How do you perform face-lifts at the Coltishall Clinic? With our technique, the operation is performed under local anaesthesia with an awake patient. Lidocaine numbs the area to provide pain control and this lasts for 12-18 hours afterwards - reducing the need for painkillers.
What types of facelifts do you offer at the Coltishall Clinic? Apart from a full range of non-surgical treatments, we offer a variety of surgical options mentioned below : • One stitch facelift- this is our minimally invasive facelift. It is suitable for younger patients or for those who do not want a full face or neck lift but desire a subtle result at low cost. • Laser face-lift - this is an excellent option when the main consideration is excess fat in chin and jowls. Laser can melt these and also heats the surrounding tissue. This stimulates collagen formation and assists in skin and tissue tightening. The amount of tightening greatly depends on skin type, age, elasticity, general health and other factors. • Mini face and neck lift- we perform a tumescent facelift. It is also known by various other names such as weekend or mini-facelift, S-lift, MACS lift or a facial lipo-lift. Pre medication is recommended to relax the patient. A special local anaesthetic solution is injected in front of the ears. This solution numbs and gently lifts the skin from underlying structures. One side is operated at a time. A small amount of skin in front of and below the ear is removed. The skin is lifted, underlying layer is tightened and finally the skin is repositioned and closed with fine sutures. • 3-D facelift – this is a no knife facelift for patients who do not have lot of saggy skin but have lost volume from their face. We take fat from where patients don’t want it such as abdomen or thighs and transfer it to face where it provides a volumetric 3-D face-lift. • Neck lift only- this can be performed through a tiny 1-inch incision in the neck crease. This is suitable for patients with neckbands. Men with turkey neck in particular may be interested in neck only lift where it can be combined with removal of excess skin. What are the benefits of Coltishall clinic face-lift procedure? Dr Sanjay Gheyi MBBS MS FRCS Medical Director at the Coltishall clinic has had advanced training in face and neck lifts in the USA and has adapted best practice and technological innovations. As the procedure is performed in the clinic purely under local anesthesia and not in a hospital, it offers the following advantages : • A natural look • Quick recovery • Minimal complication risk • Minimal scars • No hair loss • Less cost • Less risk of infection
With so many face and neck lift options on offer, along with a whole host of cutting edge non-surgical options, we are sure to have a solution to offer you. So why not give us a call on 0800 0430737 or log on to the website at www.coltishallclinic.co.uk.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
Although Daisy is still missing we have not given up hope that she will surface in time, so if you do see a timid black cat, new to your area, scavenging for food, please give us a call so that we can check to see if it is her and, if so, get her back into care. There is good news, however, of another little cat that recently went missing in North Walsham as she has now been reunited with her family. As Willow, the little cat concerned, had also only recently joined her family they were really worried as she did not know the area. They had made great efforts to get her back and, thankfully, their efforts have been rewarded. Cats can be lost for quite some time and, from our previous experiences, we know it can take months, and even years, for them to be reunited. Goods news for Manuka (now called Bertie), the little kitten mentioned last time, as his blood test was negative. He was therefore able to go straight to his new home after being vaccinated and now lives with the vet who treated him. What a lucky lad he is.
At this time of the year we start to receive many calls relating to kittens and thought it might be prudent to mention a couple of misconceptions people may have. Most people are surprised when advised that a female cat can get pregnant when she is only 4 months old, which is not ideal from her point of view as Grooming Parlour she is still growing herself and could have problems when giving Full Grooming & birth. We have also Hydrobathing had instances where a Available cat will get pregnant again shortly after 01692 501212 giving birth so, again, 07817 179228 not fair on the cat.

There was also a recent instance where someone contacted us for help under the special neutering campaign as her cat had kittens and the father was the mother cat’s brother. She was under the impression that this was not possible. Father, brother, son, any of these can father kittens if living in the same household and Bertie, what a little honey! not neutered. If there is too much Now safe in his new home interbreeding, we have seen litters with health problems, which is another reason to get all cats neutered.
If you have a cat and are worried about the cost of neutering, please contact our neutering line for a voucher, either one of the special £5 ones, which can be used at one of our vets, or a fixed price one, which can be used with any other vets. The neutering number and information is listed below. If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign. If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered. We are now on Facebook. You can find us under Cats Protection North Walsham.
The High School Experience!
Year 5 pupils from Millfield Primary in North Walsham were invited to a fun filled day of learning at North Walsham High School last month. The children ‘dipped their toes’ into High School life with taster lessons in Science, Math and Geography of which they all enjoyed. One pupil said that their favourite lesson was Geography as they had learnt so much about the world. Ms Smith, the High School’s Geography teacher, showed the children an exciting video about Matt Harding, who has travelled around the world filming himself doing silly dances. The children were excited to find out where he had been and couldn’t wait to get out the atlas.
The children also enjoyed playing dodgeball and agreed it was their favourite session of the day. Millfield were congratulated by various members of staff throughout the day, stating how well behaved and polite they were.
We would like to thank the High School and the Year 7 mentors, who made the day a great learning experience for our pupils.

Gold Standard Cat Care Comes to Norfolk! Anyone who has ever owned a cat will recognise how particular they can be with their likes and dislikes, and the challenges this often poses in caring for them.
Here at Toll Barn Vets we have always known how important specialised care is to all our patients including cats! We are extremely proud to have been awarded Gold Standard Feline Friendly Practice status by the International Society for Feline Medicine, a leading authority on caring for cats. Toll Barn Vets is one of only five practices within the entire Norfolk and Suffolk region to achieve this award. How does this help your cat? Being recognised as a Gold Standard Feline Friendly Practice means our premises and procedures were rigorously inspected and our staff demonstrated the high standard of cat care required by the
Wish Fulfilment
Society. Our reception has a separate waiting area for worried (or just plain fussy!) cats including a platform to raise and cover cat baskets to help minimise stress during their stay. Our hospital wards have a “cat only” area to prevent any fighting between cats and dogs, and pheromone diffusers and large kennels complete with hiding holes, together with a selected variety of food, keep cats comfortable during their stay with us.
Our equipment and facilities for investigating disease and performing surgical procedures were also rated at the highest possible level and our ability to perform complicated surgical procedures and techniques such as blood pressure monitoring, tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure), x-rays, ultrasound and endoscopy entirely in-house enabled us to be accredited as a Gold Standard Practice. In honour of our recent award (and our love for our feline patients) we are offering free of charge
April
Wish upon a star, they say Then quickly lock that wish away. Lodge it deep within your heart, Keep it dark, right from the start. And soon or late ‘twill come to be (It seems there is a guarantee) For no good fortune can evade A star-shaped wish when once it’s made. And knowing this, I wish for you Sunshine, and a sky of blue. I wish you lots of loving hugs A garden free from slugs and bugs. I wish you windows, shiny bright And waistbands which are not too tight. I wish you, whether near or far, Your very own, amazing star.
How I love the springtime The birds are in full song, They start as soon as dawn breaks And sing sweetly all day long. Raindrops glisten on the trees And every bright spring flower, The countryside is fresh and green After an April shower. The cold grey winter has now passed And the earth awakes once more, April showers and sunshine Have opened Nature’s door. Diane Berthelot

Weather with Ned Nimbus
Looking back over the winter, the majority of the period had higher than normal pressure, which kept at bay most of the seasons storms. The higher pressure was expected but I thought, and predicted, a colder winter but, other than a burst of real cold air in early February, the intense cold remained over Europe with some places even in southern Spain getting snow for the first time in 50 years.
2016 as a whole followed our normal maritime climate designation - a few above and below normal expectations but that has always happened. Sometimes these trends last a few years, then another change, but in 50 years of toing and froing, our overall weather pattern still comes firmly in the temperate maritime category.
The next three months are best described as 'a mixed bag' weather wise but by the time we get to May the better the chance we will be putting together decent spells of fine weather. This ongoing improvement, however, will need to have factored in the increasing power of the sun which in the hotter spells will set off the ususual summer storms with torrential rain.

Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat former health minister, has pledged to take on the unacceptable lack of progress in tackling young people’s mental ill health
He joined MPs from all parties in swearing to tackle mental illness at an event in Parliament earlier this month, sponsored by the mental health research charity MQ.
New figures from MQ show that four in 10 (42%) people in the UK have come to believe that mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression are now an inevitable part of life, such is the lack of understanding and action around mental health.
84% say that not enough is being done to tackle mental illness for the future, and more than two-thirds of parents (68%) believe that 30

having more education about mental illnesses could prevent suffering for future generations. Three children in an average class are affected by a diagnosable mental illness. However, many wait for a decade between experiencing their first symptoms and getting help, and only a quarter of young people referred to services receive appropriate care.
Overall only £8 is spent on research per person affected on mental health in the UK, which is 22 times less than per person for cancer (£178) and 14 times less than dementia spend (£110). And despite 75% of mental illness starting before the age of 18, less than 30% of the total

mental health research spend is focused on children and young people. As a result, the majority of mental healthcare resources are not designed or developed for young people, leading to poor treatment outcomes in young people and hindering prevention efforts.
Norman Lamb said “Mental illness should not be seen as an inevitable part of life. The current state of mental health treatment would simply never be accepted for a physical condition. MQ’s ‘We Swear’ campaign aims to make it clear that radical change is needed right now, and asks the public to show they ‘give a s**t’ by swearing to take on mental illness. Through research we can get to grips with this growing crisis in young people’s mental health – and build progress towards much-needed hope for everyone affected.”

Looking for an alternative but equally egg-cellent gift this Easter? Sponsor a donkey! Sponsoring a rescued donkey at Redwings Horse Sanctuary not only makes a special Easter gift for a friend or loved one, but will provide vital care for these lovable long-eared creatures for years to come.
Donkeys are a symbol of love and loyalty, especially at Easter when Christians honour the donkey for its humble service in carrying Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
So what better time of year to extend your own hand of friendship and sponsor one of the Redwings’ beautiful Adoption Star donkeys?
A year’s sponsorship costs just £12.50, with the funds going towards the daily care of your chosen Adoption Star and their friends.
Redwings’ nine Adoption Star donkeys live across five visitor centres in Norfolk, Essex, Warwickshire
and Angus, and include stunning part-bred Poitou donkey Arya, cheeky Del Boy, super-sweet Esther and mischievous duo Wiggins and Wacko.
As well as receiving updates and photographs, your loved one can even meet and cuddle their new fluffy friend in person, for free, at every visitor centre. Adopters will also receive a special invite to their sponsored donkey’s birthday party making an adoption the perfect gift for any animal lover or those who have always wanted to a donkey of their own.
Gemma Walpole, Redwings’ Head of Fundraising, said: “These gorgeous creatures hold a special place in the heart of many at this time of year, making the gift of a Redwings adoption such a beautiful gift for Easter.
“It’s hard to believe that some of our adorable donkeys endured awful neglect, abandonment or

NORTH WALSHAM TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB OPTIMISTIC FOR FUTURE MOVE
District Council, Town Council and local residents recognise need for interested developers. regionally competitive senior team. larger, modern sporting facility
This announcement follows on from the recent rejection of the 200-home development between Greens Road and Aylsham Road that would have enabled the football club to relocate to a larger site on the Cromer Road.
Naturally, there is disappointment within the football club at the decision reached. The NNDC Development Committee refused the application upon its officers’ recommendation. The Club would like to highlight that this was primarily due to traffic concerns in regards to the housing development, not due to any connection to the football club’s plans for relocation. The club are bound by this decision but will continue to explore opportunities and plan accordingly.
All of the parties that attended the planning meeting spoke very highly of the work of the football club, recognised its importance in the town and its necessity to relocate for increased football provision.
Further discussions have been promised with the relevant parties such as District Councillors, Town Councillors, local residents, local FA and
The Councillors have understood and promised support to find an agreeable solution to the Club’s plight.
North Walsham Football Club welcome a new era of constructive discussion for progress. The Club are committed to be part of a solution. The refusal is a setback and will lead to the stalling of plans to grow and develop the Club in the near future. The Club has outgrown its ageing facility at Greens Road and it will continue to hinder efforts to provide a more community based approach and enable greater self-sufficiency. The primary aim of a new location is to bring all teams from youth through to veterans under one roof, as the club is currently operationally fragmented across numerous facilities around the town.
Alex Brady, the new Chairman, has stated “In recent years there has been a lot of effort at the club to stabilise the viability and community provision of football within the North Walsham area. We will continue with these efforts and welcome local participation from all areas of the community as we take the Club forwards to serve all age groups and aim to create a
Our vision for the Club is that it will not only provide an encompassing football facility but generate economic benefit for the town by deeper links with the local business community. The Club should be a vehicle to show case North Walsham to visitors and the benefits of living and working here. The football club can be an active participant to aid the District and Town Council’s clear message that North Walsham is ‘open for business’ in order to attract inward investment. North Walsham should not risk pushing investment elsewhere and must not create the wider perception that the town is provincial and introspective.
Everyone at the Club has a great deal of affection for Greens Road. However, our need to move to a more suitable location with better facilities and a larger capacity is no secret. Unfortunately, relocation has been stifled on more than one occasion in recent years so now is the time for all bodies to come together to formulate a concrete plan and deliver it for the benefit of the town and its future generations.”
Alex Brady, Chairman North Walsham Town Football Club
Alby and District Billiards League Appeal
The Alby and District Billiards League was formed in 1932 and has been running continually except for the years during the 2nd World War.
KITCHEN FRONTS of Norfolk
At its peak, the League has consisted of 16 teams, ranging from Mundesley to Gt. Snoring. Sadly, the League has diminished considerably since then, with currently just four teams (Aylsham A & B, North Walsham and Gt. Snoring). Traditionally teams have consisted of six players but with the current state of affairs we have decided to allow teams to consist of between 3 and 6 players, teams with fewer than six players will have some players playing two games instead of one.
The format of the League is that matches consist of six x 30 minute games, which are handicapped (handicaps change on a weekly basis 5 pts more or 5pts less if you win or lose). The League runs through the winter months on a Thursday night from September to March or April. There is also a Snooker League that runs on Monday nights.
We are appealing for new players to consider joining the League, and maybe some old players to come back. Free coaching - tuition is available to anyone who is interested even if they have no knowledge of how to play billiards.

All change at Norwich City by Joel Lodge, our Football Correspondent
A lot has happened since my last article, as many City fans know Alex Neil has been sacked with most feeling it’s been a long time coming, myself included.
Delia and co have taken action and decided to sack Neil with 10 games of the Championship campaign remaining, the board have clearly taken notice and understand that there needs to be a massive overhaul at the club in terms of the squad as well as the structure of the club.
Ed Balls announced on the day of the Barnsley
game that instead of appointing a Chief Executive as they did with McNally and Moxey to instead split that role into two categories, a managing director and a sporting director.
We already know who the managing director is Steve Stone who’s former position at the club was director of finance and when Moxey departed in early February he was appointed interim Chief Executive; as for the sporting director however it appears that Huddersfield’s
The Vikings made history on 25 March with their first ever win at Letchworth and it was a big one, 50 -10, scoring eight tries in the process. With three games to go they were fourth in London One North (sixth last season), six points ahead of fifth placed Eton Manor. Tring remain top with Brentwood and Chingford battling it out for second place and the opportunity to play their counterparts in London One South for the third promotion place.

a massive success" said Minis Chair Mike Mack. "The weather was perfect and it was good to see the sport's core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship so evident."
The Raiders completed their League season with a win at Wymondham so finishing fourth in the table. They are still in the Norfolk Bowl (Cup for 2nd XVs) and have some friendlies scheduled.

Stuart Webber is the man for the Canaries board and it’s easy to see why.
Many playing at the Festival have had illustrious rugby careers. Ben & Tom Youngs represented Holt, with Charlie Clare (now at Northampton), Callum Green (Newcastle), Josh Lewsey (England World Cup winner 2003), Toby Salmon (Exeter) and James Shanahan (Blackheath's Coach) all playing for North Walsham as did around a quarter of the Vikings current squad.
The Vikings next and final home game is on 22 April versus Old Priorians.

North Walsham Table Tennis Hamstring Handicap Heartbreak for NWSCD
In the quarter-finals of the Handicap Doubles Cup, NWSCD’s Phil Mole (28), Stuart Hook (27) and Philip Stone (27) hosted Gresham’s School A’s Colin Humphries (25), Haken Bennell (5) and Robin Thaxter (0). A golden point 51-50 win for Bennell and Thaxter (2) against Hook and Mole (27) put Gresham’s 2-0 ahead before NWSCD levelled the tie at 2-2 and again later at 3-3. Hook and Mole (27) moved NWSCD one win from the semi-final with a 51-45 win against Humphries and Bennell (15) and Hook and Stone (27) were two points away as they led Humphries and Thaxter (12) 49-48 but the Gresham’s pair edged through to set up a decisive ninth encounter – the third successive one for NWSCD in this year’s Cup. It pitted Mole and Stone (27) against Bennell and Thaxter (2) and NWSCD made a good start but there was drama about a third of the way through the contest as Mole injured his hamstring – an injury that has forced him to pull out of this year’s North Norfolk Championships. Mole bravely battled on through the decisive clash but his movement was restricted and although Stone hit some good winners towards the end of the contest, Bennell and Thaxter came through 51-46 to steal a 5-4 win. There was better news for NWSCE’s Andrew Weston and James and Ben Lester who won their
quarter-final away to Barracudas 5-2, the week after losing to Barracuda’s 7-3 in the First Division.
In the Premier Division, NWSCB’s Werner Zivna and the Richard’s Westgate and Porritt hosted NWSCA’s Andy Beane, Tom BaldockYaxley and Philip Stone (playing up) with Zivna beating Stone in straight. Porritt beat Stone from two down and also picked up a fine win in four against Beane. Stone failed to convert a second two set lead against Westgate who saved two match-points at 8-10 down in the fourth. The remaining battles were all won by NWSCA in straight sets as they took a 6-4 win. Stone then joined his regular team-mates Phil Mole and Stuart Hook as NWSCD visited Mundesley A. Mole led by a set and 5-0 against Jonathan Care who recovered to take the second 11-7 en route to a win in five. Hook won another dramatic five-setter against Care while Stone beat the Mundesley player in four. Peter Betts and Paul Price both took full houses ending with a doubles win in four against Hook and Stone that completed Mundesley A’s 8-2 win. Meanwhile NWSCA will play Gresham’s School A POOL 1 in the final of the Water too cold Knockout Singles Cup
