North Walsham Lights Up!
Saturday 24 November saw North Walsham brighten up with the annual Christmas Light Switch On. Volunteers had been working from early October to make sure that all the lights were erected and fully functioning before the big event. Over 180 hours had been given up by committee members and volunteers to ensure the town was to shine over the Christmas period.
Chairman Colin Jeary said 'There's a lot of work which goes on throughout the year to make sure the Christmas Lights and switch on event go without a hitch. There are lots of people involved but it goes without saying, that if the traders in the town didn't help financially

North Walsham Lights Up!
Continued from front cover... Jade, accompanied by the town’s Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Town Crier carried out the best dressed window competition which this year was sponsored by Clapham and Collinge Solicitors. The winner, Papillon, was announced just before the switch on which took place at 6pm.
Throughout the afternoon there was entertainment supplied by Sarah's Zumba Squad, Ellie Diss, Two's Company, Manor Road School choir, Dance for Fun (who escorted Father Christmas down the town on their illuminated scooters), Invidia Choir and The Salvation Army Band.
Mr Jeary expressed his thanks to everybody who had helped to make the event a success and added 'It makes it all worthwhile when at 6pm you look out from the town clock and all you can see is a sea of people'. Photos: Andrea Hudson Photography
Local Author Releases New Railways Book 'The Liveries of the Pre-Grouping Railways' is a four-volume series published by Lightmoor Press depicting the colours worn by the locomotives, carriages and wagons of the standard gauge steam railways of Great Britain in existence before the First World War.
Volume Two presents the liveries of the railways in the East of England and Scotland which became part of the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923. This includes celebrated local Norfolk lines the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway and the Great Eastern Railway.
Originally published as a series of illustrated articles in British Railway Modelling magazine between 1994 and 2006, this edition brings them together for the first time and features revised text, new paintings and new scrap views, combined with photographs, contemporary postcards, colour patches and a glossary of paints and painting methods. Nigel Digby is a well-known railway author and lecturer living in Cromer, and this is his seventh published book. Other titles deal with the stations and structures of the M&GN, modelling lineside buildings and railway signalling.

Mini face-lift surgery rises in popularity
Cosmetic medicine and surgery goes through trends. Whilst non-surgical options such as botox, fillers and lasers are very effective for early signs of facial ageing, they cannot tighten a lot of loose skin. A surgical face or neck-lift entails removing this excess skin. For natural looking results we do not need to over-tighten the face and neck. We can just tighten it a little and add some volume with fillers of fat transfer and use lasers to improve the skin. Such combination yields superior results and is much better than too much of fillers or surgery alone.

Why awake face-lift? Many cosmetic surgery patients do not want to go under general anaesthesia. Being under general anaesthesia can be associated with risks. Operations under general anaesthesia also tend to have prolonged bruising and recovery involved.
How do you perform face-lifts at the Coltishall Clinic? With our technique, the operation is performed under local anaesthesia with an awake patient. A special solution numbs the area to provide pain control and this lasts for 12-18 hours afterwards-reducing the need for painkillers.
What types of facelifts do you offer at the Coltishall Clinic? Apart from a full range of non-surgical treatments we offer a variety of surgical options mentioned below. 1] One stitch facelift- this is our minimally invasive facelift. It is suitable for younger patients or for those who do not want a full face or neck lift but desire a subtle result at low cost. 2] Laser face-lift- this is an excellent option when the main consideration is excess fat in chin and jowls. Laser can melt these and also heats the surrounding tissue. This stimulates collagen formation and assists in skin and tissue tightening. 3] Mini face and neck lift- It is also known by various other names such as weekend or mini-facelift, S-lift, MACS lift or a facial lipo-lift. The skin is lifted, underlying layer is tightened and finally the skin is repositioned and closed with fine sutures. 4] 3-D facelift – this is a no knife facelift for patients who do not have lot of saggy skin but have lost volume from their face. We take fat from where patients don’t want it such as abdomen or thighs and transfer it to face where it provides a volumetric 3-D face-lift. 5] Neck lift only- this can be performed through a tiny 1-inch incision in the neck crease. This is suitable for patients with neckbands. Men with turkey neck in particular may be interested in neck only lift where it can be combined with removal of excess skin.
Dr Sanjay Gheyi MBBS MS FRCS Medical Director at the Coltishall clinic has had advanced training in face and neck lifts in the USA and has adapted best practice and technological innovations. As the procedure is performed in the clinic purely under local anesthesia and not in a hospital, it offers the following advantages: A natural look . Quick recovery . Minimal complication risk . Minimal scars . No hair loss . Less cost . Less risk of infection.
With so many face and neck lift options on offer, along with a whole host of cutting edge non-surgical options, we are sure to have a solution to offer you. So why not give us a call on 01603 736487 or log on to the website at www.coltishallclinic.co.uk.

Christmas is Coming
Christmas is coming! Soon it will be here. I’m still not prepared, despite having all year! You’d think I’d have got it all sorted by now, But I still haven’t finished, it’s endless, somehow! I’ve bought all my cards and presents, but then, I cannot find time to write and wrap them. The older I get, the harder it seems, To remain within my limited means. Prices keep climbing, my income does not! If only I had a magical pot! This Christmas I feel I’ve lost the whole point, But I’m so afraid that I might disappoint. Does it matter if I fall short of sainthood? We must be grateful for all that is good. At this time of year, there’s such expectation, We forget the reason for this celebration. We’re giving thanks for the birth of a Child Who came to save us, despite being reviled! So, give thanks for your blessings, ponder and pause, Pray for family and friends, and for the end of all wars! Frances Wraight

WHERE YOU LIVE
Thorpe Market church has built up a reputation for hosting art and craft exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts and live bands when not in use for services.
The venue has an accessible car park, three tier staging with comfortable chairs, boards to hang work on, a kitchen and most importantly it is easy to heat. We are currently investing in a new hanging system for the church. The newest facility this church received funding for was a large film projector and screen in order to run a film club for the community. If you think you would like to volunteer to run this then do contact us.
We do not charge for the venue but there is a 20% commission on gross sales taken during your event. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of this historic church.
Key dates in the annual calendar are Snow Drop Sundays in February, when we open our doors to welcome up to 1400 visitors, who come to visit the churchyard for the Snow Drop experience, not to mention Thorpe Market’s famous spread of afternoon tea, coffee and cakes. Other key dates are bank holiday weekends, Norfolk Open Studios and Half Term breaks. The church has a new exhibition co-ordinator so if you would like to know more about the opportunity to use this venue please contact Katayoun on katayounpd@gmail.com or by phone 07944 731081 for further information. She will send out the terms and conditions for the use of the church as a venue.

Christmas Day Lunch in North Walsham
On Christmas Day there will be a Christmas Lunch in North Walsham's Community Centre provided for anyone living in North Walsham who would otherwise be alone on the day.
It is a very happy occasion which has been taking place for around 20 years now. It is organised by a group of volunteers on behalf of Churches Together in North Walsham. Very kindly, we are given free use of the Community Centre, and all other costs are covered by donations, in kind or money, from various charitable groups or individuals in the town, so there is no charge for the meal. There is a retiring collection for local charities should anyone wish to contribute.
The day for guests begins about 12.30pm with a welcome drink and finishes about three hours later, after the Queen's Speech. If required, transport can be arranged.
Those already on our database do not need to do anything - you can expect to be contacted fairly soon. If, for some reason, you seem to have been missed, then do contact us via the contact details given below. Equally, there may well be others in the town who would like to join us this year for the first time, or after a gap. You would be very welcome. Or you may have company yourself but know of someone else who would be alone and might like to come along please let us know. You can phone John on 01692 405119 or email Felicity felicitynnorfolk@yahoo.co.uk

Day room revamp opens door to nostalgia and woodland
Visitors to a hospital day room can take a trip back in time or into a leafy woodland glade thanks to the efforts of its Friends and public generosity.
A £20,000-plus revamp of the room at North Walsham War Memorial Hospital has just been completed.
It features a full wall forest mural and a selection of archive photos showing the historic hospital and the town centre.
It was paid for using donations made to the hospitals League of Friends, who provide “extras” that are beyond the health service budget. Friends’ members got a glimpse of the room’s facelift after their annual general meeting. Chairman Keith Jarvis said “We hope the room will provide a homely, relaxing place for patients and their families to spend time together. The woodland wall is very tranquil, and the old pictures should provide a conversation piece and a reflection of the proud nursing heritage we have here in North Walsham.”
The archive pictures were provided by the North Walsham and District Community Archive. The project also includes a new television, blinds, flooring and furniture. It is also planned to renew furniture and provide raised flower beds in the garden patio area outside the day room, for people to enjoy in good weather. A formal opening of the new-look day room will be is planned in the coming months.

During the previous year the Friends received £2354 in donations and £2280 in lieu of flowers at funerals, the annual meeting heard. The group spent around £11,000 on buildings and equipment ranging from soundproofing a training room to a microwave oven and fan. The Friends also organise Christmas carol singing and gifts. Chairman Keith Jarvis, Secretary Angela Batson and Treasurer Carol Willgress were re-elected at the 69th annual meeting. Mr Jarvis reported that the Friends had also helped provide replica flags to remember the town’s two First World War Red Cross hospitals which nursed injured troops. They were also pleased to be town mayor Barry Hester’s nominated civic charity this year. Anyone wanting to join the Friends or learn about their work can visit their website www.northwalshamhospitalfriends.org.uk or Facebook page.
More accolades for the quality of North Norfolk’s coastal waters
Further boost for the district’s six award-winning Blue Flag beaches The fantastic quality of the bathing water around the North Norfolk coast has once again been officially recognised.
Earlier this year, the district was awarded Blue Flags for six of its beaches, and no district in England has more. The government has now informed North Norfolk District Council that the water off all six of those beaches – at Cromer, East Runton looking east East Runton, Mundesley, Sea Palling, Sheringham and West Runton – is deemed to be “excellent”.
The classifications are based on data collected by the Environment Agency and will be officially in place for next year. It means the six beaches are well placed ahead of applications to renew their Blue Flag awards, with water quality one of the key measures under the Blue Flag scheme.
A spokesman for North Norfolk District Council said “This is great news, and confirms once again that this is one of the best seaside destinations in the country.
“The Blue Flag awards already show just clean and safe our beaches are, but these bathing-water ratings are the icing on the cake for us.” North Walsham 556 December 8th 2018
Help East Anglian Air Ambulance keep families together this Christmas
East Anglian Air Ambulance launched their ‘Together This Christmas’ campaign last month. After saving the life of three-year-old Annabel earlier in the year, the charity has asked people to consider giving a little extra over the festive period to bring more patients like Annabel home to their families for Christmas. On 9 February 2018 EAAA’s Anglia Two crew was tasked at 09.49 to a three-year-old girl named Annabel, who had sadly suffered a cardiac arrest at her pre-school. Pilots Olly Gates and Gav Blake flew the team of Dr Victor Inyang, Dr Jon Barratt and Critical Care Paramedic Chris Neil directly to her side, arriving just 17 minutes after receiving the call. Despite a successful resuscitation by the fantastic pre-school team, Annabel was deeply unconscious and her airway was compromised. The team gave her a general anaesthetic in order to protect her airway and breathing. It is incredibly rare to anaesthetise a young child outside of a hospital so the team carefully modified drug dosages based on her age and weight. Specialist paediatric airway equipment was prepared and checked. It took the team just sixteen minutes to complete the process. After gaining control of Annabel’s airway the crew made the decision to fly her to Addenbrooke’s. En route to hospital
the team worked hard to stabilise her, but on the latter half of the journey Annabel deteriorated further and required intervention with specialist drugs. They were met at the hospital by the specialist paediatric resuscitation team. At this point she sadly went into cardiac arrest for a further two hours. Despite all the odds and after receiving further expert care at the hospital Annabel made an incredible recovery. The chain of survival was perfectly formed that day. It was undoubtedly the quick response, professional skills and outstanding patient care by everyone involved in a devastating situation that resulted in a lovely three-year-old girl being saved.
Given Annabel’s age and presentation, this mission was one of the most significant for the EAAA and the team, who said they were delighted to be able to meet Annabel and her family at the charity’s base and show her the helicopter she was flown in. Chris Neil, Critical Care Paramedic at EAAA, said “On that day I was able to utilise all of my skills I have learnt in my 25 years working within pre-hospital emergency medicine. The
Richard West
job was truly career defining. It stretched my abilities, resilience and emotions and had the most amazing outcome. Meeting Annabel a few months later was a special moment and one I will always treasure.”
Rebecca and William, Annabel’s parents, said “As a parent you never want to hear that your child is in need of emergency medical attention. Our world was shattered when we learnt that our three-year-old was being air lifted to Addenbrooke’s. Thankfully the EAAA played a vital part in our daughter’s chain of survival. The expertise, compassion and care they have provided during and after that unforgettable day in February, has enabled us to put into perspective how incredible and invaluable their service is. We are forever grateful.”
Little Annabel will be spending this Christmas together with her family, and this is all thanks to you, the fantastic communities who support the charity and keep them flying. If you would like to support EAAA and help them to keep more families together this Christmas please go to their dedicated Christmas campaign page www.justgiving.com/campaign/ EAAAchristmas2018.
You can read Annabel’s full story on the charity’s website www.eaaa.org.uk/stories or to find out more about the charity you can follow them on Facebook as ‘East Anglian Air Ambulance and on Twitter as @EastAngliAirAmb.

What the Dickens?!
by Fiona Hewitt, Director, Hayes + Storr
At this time of year, attention often turns to Charles Dickens, and anyone who has read a Dickens’ novel will be aware of how much he loved to poke fun at lawyers and legal proceedings. Many aspects of modern legal practice would be completely alien to Dickens – employment law, intellectual property law, health and safety legislation to name a few, but there are some areas of the law where procedures have, in some respects at least, changed much less over the last 180 years ...
Swear Words In The Pickwick Papers, a misunderstanding leads to the amiable but bumbling Mr Pickwick being sued. Dickens describes a scene at court, where a clerk is administering oaths: ‘…the oath being invariably administered, without any effort at punctuation, and usually in the following terms: “Take the book in your right hand this is your name and hand-writing you swear that the contents of this your affidavit are true so help you God a shilling you must get change I haven’t got it.”’
Although we now try to be a little more client-friendly in our approach, the wording described above will be familiar to anyone who has had to swear an oath for legal purposes. Clients often comment to us that the procedure seems rather archaic and strange. Certainly, it raises a few questions:
What is the purpose of an oath? An oath or affidavit is a document which needs
to be sworn before a solicitor or legal executive (Commissioner of Oaths). The document has to be sworn whilst holding a bible or other holy book. It is usually for documents used in Court, including probate oaths - the process of applying for a Grant of Probate, a legal document issued by the Court that proves an executor’s right to administer an estate of a deceased person.
The idea behind confirming a document by means of an oath is that the person who swears to it is making a solemn promise that the contents are true, to the best of their knowledge and belief. It is the equivalent on paper of a witness in Court swearing to tell ‘the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth’. Lying on oath is taken more seriously by a court than an untrue statement made in other circumstances.
What happens if you don’t want to swear on the Bible? Many people, whether or not they have any religious belief are prepared to swear on the Bible, accepting it as part of the procedure. However, some people object to the practice on religious grounds or for other reasons. In these circumstances, an ‘affirmation’ is perfectly acceptable, and the lawyer who is administering the oath will provide some slightly amended wording.
What is the swearing procedure? An oath must be sworn in front of an
KITCHEN FRONTS of Norfolk
independent lawyer/solicitor – not someone from the firm who has prepared the relevant document. It is also possible to swear an oath before an appointed court official. You will need to repeat or read out the wording given to you by the lawyer which is not dissimilar to the wording described above by Dickens. The fee is currently £5, with an extra £2 for each ‘exhibit’ (document attached) to the statement. It’s a little more than a shilling, but still a token fee for this old-fashioned procedure and perhaps not too much for a chance to swear at a lawyer!
This article aims to supply general information, but it is not intended to constitute advice. Every effort is made to ensure that the law referred to is correct at the date of publication and to avoid any statement which may mislead. However no duty of care is assumed to any person and no liability is accepted for any omission or inaccuracy. Always seek our specific advice.
If you would like further advice on this matter please contact Fiona on 01328 863231. If you require advice on any other legal matter call 01692 503081 or email law@hayes-storr.com.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
Flossy has left us for her new home as have four more young cats plus four more kittens. We are also keeping our fingers crossed that Chewy will be leaving us shortly. Their pens will not be empty for long as we have lots of cats on the waiting list who need our help. Stephanie will have to decide which ones have the greatest need and who has been patiently waiting for some time to come into care. It is a balancing act and our first priority is always for the cats themselves.
So far this year we have had many cats and kittens joining us that have been strays. Some have been young mothers with their kittens, while others, like Grace, were left to fend for themselves when they become old and have health problems. We have also had young male cats that have strayed and forgotten the way home, primarily because they have not been neutered. Other cats have joined us because their owner has died or is unable to care for them any longer. We have taken cats and kittens in from homes where the owner has realised that they have too many cats to care for properly. We have also taken some in, after a call from one of the veterinary practices we use, because they have a cat that needs a new home once it recovers from either an operation or illness. Whatever the reason, we help as soon as we can, but cannot help until a pen becomes free.
Sales at High Hedges have now finished for the year and we would like to thank Sharon for continuing to sell goods from her home. This year she has raised ÂŁ482 for the cats in care. A wonderful result for all her hard work, setting up the stall when the weather is fine and making sure the goods are clean and working. Andrea, with help from Glidy, has also had an exceptional year and at the last count had raised ÂŁ950.45 from the sale of their beautiful cards at Westover Vets, Glaven Vets and Mulberry Tearooms. They are hoping to reach four figures by the end of the year. We will have more information on fund raising next time.
Our Neutering Line has also been very busy and again, at the time of writing, we have issued 224 vouchers (71 of these in the last two months) for cats to be neutered. We have also helped with neutering several feral cats too. So many cats and kittens need our help because a cat has not been neutered so we are delighted and hope people will continue to call for this help.
If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please 07880 256948 it (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.
If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.

Further step forward for tennis in North Norfolk North Norfolk District Council approves funding for Community Sports Hub plan
A plan to build a state-of-the-art £3.4m indoor tennis centre for North Norfolk and to improve four other tennis facilities spread across the district has cleared a key hurdle.
Funding to build the Community Sports Hub, which would be built in Cromer in a partnership with the Lawn Tennis association (LTA), Cromer Academy and Cromer Lawn Tennis and Squash Association, was approved at a meeting of North Norfolk District Council’s Full Council.
The sports hub, which was approved by the Council last year and given planning approval in September, will include three indoor tennis courts, a 25-station gym, a social area and viewing gallery, and a space for fitness classes, social activities and meetings.
The four satellite tennis facilities are in North
22
Walsham, Fakenham with two in Wells. The plans aim to greatly increase active leisure participation, as part of the Council’s wider health and wellbeing offer, across the district.
It would allow for year round indoor tennis in the District, demand for which was identified in the council’s 2015 Indoor Sports Facility Strategy. Indoor tennis courts historically existed in Cromer from early in the 20th century and this new facility will build on that tradition, but will be open to the public, in order to benefit all players in the area.
Following tender evaluation for the sports hub construction, Full Council agreed to fund the construction phase of the project, including an additional £118,000 for improved car parking and access through Cabbell Park and additional
demolition and drainage works. Extra funding of £228,000 was approved for the satellite facilities. This follows on from enabling works for the project being completed on the Cromer Academy site during the summer school holidays. The formal award of the construction contract will be made as soon as the LTA funding of £505,000 is confirmed, in early December.

New Leader at North Norfolk District Council Cllr Sarah Bütikofer elected as North Norfolk District Council North Norfolk District Council has a new Leader following a meeting of the Full Council.

That vote was carried, with 26 votes for and 17 votes against, with 3 abstentions.
The Council’s constitution states that for a motion of no confidence to be approved, it must be carried by a majority of the Members of the whole Council, which is a minimum of 25 Members out of 48.
A proposal was subsequently put forward to Full Council to elect Cllr Sarah Bütikofer as the Council’s new leader. This proposal was carried by 22 votes for

Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk, and Eric Seward, Liberal Democrat County Councillor for North Walsham East, met with BT Openreach on 16 November to discuss the long-delayed telecommunication mast in North Walsham.
and 17 votes against, with 7 abstentions.
New Cabinet at NNDC A three-party Cabinet has been named by the new Leader of North Norfolk District Council.
Cllr Sarah Butikofer, who was elected as Leader of North Norfolk District Council on Wednesday, said she was “honoured and excited to be the new Leader of North Norfolk District Council. In keeping with my commitment to work with unity, I am delighted to unveil my new cross-party Cabinet and look forward to us all working together. Every person on this Cabinet will be able to give their own views when we are discussing the topics of importance to the people of North Norfolk. I would not describe this as a coalition, but as a cross-party Cabinet working for the good of North Norfolk and its communities. There will be no political whipping by me of those on the Cabinet.”

The telephone mast is being constructed to provide better mobile phone signal to the Brick Kiln, Marshgate and Spa Common areas. It was given consent by North Norfolk District Council in June 2017 and was supposed to go operational in December last year.
Mr Lamb said “We have now been waiting for over a year after it was initially due to go live. We understand that there is a change of the connection being made before the end of the year. I’m determined to get this unacceptable situation sorted out without further long delay, and made it clear I will be raising my frustrations in Parliament by January if we have not got the connection made by then. We will keep local residents informed.” Cllr Seward said “It is now imperative that BT Openreach sort out the outstanding problems over connecting the mast to the network as quickly as possible. They say that can do this in a matter of weeks. I hope so because residents have been waiting far too long for a good mobile phone signal.”

However, it has faced a series of delays whilst BT Openreach, which controls the Anglian Water sewage works site where the mast is being built, wait for network fibre cabling to be delivered by their supplier.
At the meeting, senior representatives from BT Openreach apologised for the delay which they accepted had been too long, and made a guarantee to report back by the end of the month with an update. They also confirmed that the mast should be operational by January. Mr Lamb will be raising the delay in Parliament if that doesn’t happen.
The Cabinet is made up of four Liberal Democrats, two Leader Conservatives and one Independent, and is as follows: • Cllr Sarah Butikofer, Leader and portfolio holder for Corporate Services, Asset Commercialisation, Customer Services and Community Engagement (Liberal Democrat). • Cllr Eric Seward, Deputy Leader and portfolio holder for Finance, Revenues and Benefits (Liberal Democrat). • Cllr Nigel Lloyd, portfolio holder for Environment and Property (Liberal Democrat). • Cllr Karen Ward, portfolio holder for Housing, Planning and Planning Policy (Liberal Democrat). • Cllr Nigel Dixon, portfolio holder for Economic Development and Business and Tourism (Conservative). • Cllr Hilary Cox, portfolio holder for Leisure, Culture and Licensing (Conservative). • Cllr Angie Fitch-Tillett, portfolio holder for Coastal, Health and Wellbeing (Independent).

North Walsham Table Tennis Derby time at the sports centre
In the Premier Division, Robert Gabriel made his debut playing up alongside Andy Beane and Tom Baldock-Yaxley as North Walsham Alpha battled North Walsham Beta’s Mark Blackburn, Stuart Hook and Phil Stone. Hook recovered from 0-7 to take the first before strong starts in each set saw Gabriel recover to win from two down and he continued his impressive debut winning his other singles both in straight. Beane beat Hook in four and Blackburn in five but no more sets were dropped by Alpha in the singles. Hook and Stone nearly recovered from two down in the doubles but Beane and Gabriel won 11-8 in the fifth to seal a 10-0 win. The following week the same Alpha trio hosted a two man Backhanders duo hit by last minute illness. Despite the shorter running order, only the doubles was decided in straight sets as Alpha won 9-1. Teucer Wilson went the distance in all three of his battles, taking Backhanders only point from two down against Beane, winning a vital third set 15-13. Whil De Neve also pushed Beane to five.
Echoes Frank Weston and the Johns Chapman and Vaughan battled Cobra’s Ben Lester, Richard Porritt and Andrew Weston in another
North Walsham derby in the First Division. Vaughan took a maximum with a trio of wins in four – 16-14 in his last set with Porritt – but Cobras won 7-3 with Frank Weston taking both Andrew Weston and Lester the distance. Tom Wardle joined Frank Weston and Chapman as Echoes also hosted Mundesley B’s Ben Thomson, John Stacey and Paul Gotts. Mundesley won all nine singles with Wardle edged out 15-13 in the fifth by Thomson and half a dozen battles going to four. There was consolation for the hosts who picked up a point in the doubles with Wardle and Chapman beating Stacey and Gotts in five.
In the Second Division, after losing out 6-4 to Gresham’s School B, North Walsham Delta’s Gudi Scham, Sarah Tudhope and Tony Bispham hosted Mundesley C represented by the three Daves – Williams, Kewell and Land. Bispham led the COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY second 10-2 as he beat • Qualified, Registered & Experienced Counsellor. Land 11-3, 11-9, 11-8. • I offer 1:1 Empathic, non-judgemental therapy. Williams beat Tudhope in • Private, safe, calm & comfortable environment. four and edged Bispham 12-10 in the fifth while Kewell beat Bispham in Two wins from two meant the Vikings started their home
game against Southend on 1 December still in third place. With 44 points they were three behind Colchester, eleven behind Rochford.
Both victories were against teams in good form. Old Haberdashers came to Scottow following a one point defeat by Colchester and just one less win than their hosts, but were overwhelmed 55 - 14. Such a score line looked unlikely for the first quarter as the visitors camped in their opponents' half but the Vikings eventually ran in nine tries, including six in a twenty minute spell in the second half. Jim Riley (pictured) on his return from injury got two. It was much tighter the next week at Amersham with the Vikings prevailing 22 - 17. They showed

four. Scham’s short and fast shots coupled with great defence saw her to a maximum while Tudhope’s brace included a win in five against Land. Williams and Kewell won the doubles against Scham and Bispham in four, Delta won the match 6-4. Gresham’s School B’s Chima Chinkelu, Hiromichi Yagi and Rason Wong hosted North Walsham Foxtrot’s Tom Wardle, Simon Porritt and Marceli Gabriel. Wardle and Gabriel took maximums, both just dropping one set against Yagi and were supported with a brace from Porritt, who edged Chinkelu 14-12 in the fifth. Yagi beat Porritt in four and teamed up with Chinkelu for a doubles win from two down against Wardle and Gabriel, however Foxtrots won the match 8-2.

The Raiders are joint second with Norwich Union in their League, ten points behind Beccles. Their latest match was a 38-17 win over their Norwich counterparts.
Results are going well for the Youth teams in their Norfolk Cup games. Henly Brightman has been selected in the Eastern Counties Colts squad.
