Sporting honour for cadets
The Air Training Corps [ATC] is made up of six regions. Each region has six wings and within each wing there will be a large number of squadrons so there is a huge pool of players for any of the sports events that the ATC run.
Cadets Sophia Webb (left) and Emily Penrose
It was therefore a great honour for two cadets from North Walsham Squadron to be selected to play hockey for Norfolk and Suffolk Wing. Cadets Sophia Webb (16) and Emily Penrose (16) played against other teams from our Region, (Central and East). Continued on page 4...

Sporting honour for cadets
Continued from front cover... The girls from Norfolk and Suffolk got through to the final coming second to South and East Midlands Wing.
Emily now has the greater honour of having been selected to play for the Region later this month at RAF Wittering.
The two girls did not join the Squadron until the middle of last year but have already been flying, doing aerobatics, and earned leadership, pre-Duke of Edinburgh awards and first aid qualifications.
If flying, and much more interests you, North Walsham Air Cadets parade every Monday and Thursday, at North Walsham Primary School, Manor Road, North Walsham, NR28 9HG from 7pm till 9.30pm and welcomes all young people aged between 12 and 18 years. They are currently recruiting cadets and adult volunteers.
Share as One for Mental Health
A new charity has been set up in North Norfolk as a response to the loss of statutory services for the mentally ill, and also because of serious financial cuts to many voluntary organizations who have traditionally supported those who have suffered from mental disorder. The name of the charity is ‘Share as One for Mental Health’.
The objects of the charity are primarily the advancement of psychological well-being, mental health and suicide prevention. We aim to pursue the eradication of the stigma surrounding mental illness, and support the aim of parity of esteem between physical and mental illness.
‘No physical health without mental health’
Folgate F olgate Road North Walsham Walsham Norfolk Norf olk NR28 0AJ
The aim is to get people together to support each other especially with issues such as advocacy, welfare rights, housing, homelessness, and the need for adequate, swift treatment when in crisis. We also wish to encourage one another to participate in leisure activities which give enjoyment and reduce stress.
Our charity is already in partnership with Cromer Football Club where we intend to help maximize the use of the Clubhouse (which is based right next to the new Cromer Medical Centre) for the benefit of the community.
A weekly drop-in group will meet there, as well as other support groups. We would also like to join with other voluntary organizations to achieve the establishment of a respite sanctuary for the suicidal, such as the one set up by Samaritans in London called the Maytree Sanctuary.
First drop-in group get together will start on Tuesday 2 April at 10am at the Clubhouse, Mill Road, Cromer NR27 0BG - all welcome.
The founders of the charity have either experienced mental illness themselves, or worked either in the voluntary sector or in statutory mental health services. All those who are interested in improving mental health in our community are welcome to join us. If you are interested in joining us or would like to find out more please phone Terry Skyrme on 01263 768676 or Chris Ainsworth on 07389 249616 or email shareasonemail.com.

Donors help canal charity spread the word
Visitors to a north-east Norfolk beauty spot can check the latest footpath and fishing information, find out how to book a boat trip, and a wealth of other useful information thanks to four new noticeboards.
They have been installed along a 2.3 mile stretch of the North Walsham and Dilham Canal at Ebridge Lock, Spa Common, Royston Bridge and Swafield.
Money to buy the noticeboards has come from donations to the North Walsham and Dilham Canal Trust given by North Walsham Town
Council (£400), Interconnector UK (£500) - based at the nearby Bacton Gas Terminals - and the Norfolk area Ramblers' group (£300).
Tom Webster, fisheries officer and a trustee with the canal charity, said they were grateful for the donors' generosity which had helped make the popular canal even more welcoming to visitors.
"Walkers, dog owners, fishermen, canoeists, model boat enthusiasts and wildlife fans flock to the canal throughout the year," said Tom. "These noticeboards are already helping us to answer their questions about the canal and keep them up to date with what we're doing to restore this stretch."
Spokesman Peter James said the Ramblers wanted to encourage the opening of paths and supported giving the public information on what was available for them to enjoy.
Becky Wylie, representing Interconnector UK, said they were delighted to support the project, adding "Increasing local awareness of the continuing restoration of the canal and the facilities the canal offers is key to attracting volunteers to help with further restoration."
And North Walsham's mayor, Barry Hester, said many canal trust volunteers had already made a massive improvement to the area, which was much appreciated.
North Walsham and Dilham Canal Trust. Barry Hester, Mayor of North Walsham; Tom Webster, North Walsham and Dilham Canal Trust trustee; Mary Seward, Deputy Mayor of North Walsham; Peter James, Norfolk area Ramblers; and Becky Wylie, Interconnector UK, at the Ebridge Lock noticeboard
He added "It is good to hear already that the canal is attracting lots of new visitors, including the wildlife kind."
The Trust always welcomes more help in a variety of muddy and land-based roles. Contact: secretary@nwdct.org

Helping Harry …
Regular readers may remember the story we ran back in January about little Harry Deeba who was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma in January 2018 and whose parents Carly and Ali were appealing for support with their attempt to raise £239,000 by the end of April to access a vaccine in New York that is showing promising signs in reducing the chances of relapse, giving Harry the best chance at living cancer-free.
Carly has contacted us to say the fundraising is going well and there are lots of events coming up which are detailed on Harry's Facebook page Harry vs Neuroblastoma.
These include a group from Drayton Insurance Services who are cycling from London to Brussels at the end of March. They have a Facebook page set up called Cycle for Harry. Carly used to work at Drayton insurance. Darren
Walsgrove, joint owner of DIS who also owns The White Horse Pub in Overstrand, will be taking part in this event
Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/ fundraising/HarrysCycle
The running total and details of how people can donate to Harry's appeal can be found at

Donations can also be made by texting HADE99 with an amount £1-£10 to 70070.
Aylsham Singers welcome new members!
Aylsham Singers is a Community Choir consisting of women (sopranos & altos) and men (tenors and basses). The choir has been in existence for well over 10 years and has performed many concerts - with music ranging from the Beach Boys to Bach.
The choir is led by Musical Director Viv Cairns, who studied music at the Royal Academy of Music and now teaches music in Norfolk schools. Concerts are usually based around a theme. The next concert, at
St Michaels’ Church, Aylsham on May 18th 2019 from 7.30pm, has a ‘water’ theme and includes music by Henry Mancini and Billy Joel.
Other projects in the pipeline include involvement in a charity single.
Aylsham Singers are keen to recruit a few new members - particularly men. People of all ages and musical abilities are currently being invited to join the choir. There is no requirement to be able to read music - singers just need to able to

THE DREAMERS OF DREAMS
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society in Concert
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society are delighted to be returning to Cromer Parish Church on Saturday 6 April at 7.30pm for their next concert entitled “The Dreamers of Dreams”.
John Rutter.
Elgar’s The Music Makers is a beautiful ode to those who create music with words by Arthur O’Shaughnessy. The opening lines set the scene “We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams”. Rutter’s popular Requiem is dedicated to his father who had recently died when he completed composing the work in 1985. He combines the traditional Latin text with bible verses in English – notably Psalm 23 “The Lord is My Shepherd” and Psalm 130 “Out of the Deep”.
The choir, directed by David Ballard, will be performing works by two of the most successful composers at opposite ends of the 20th Century, namely Sir Edward Elgar and
The choir will be joined by soprano soloist Zaira Palumbo who recently graduated from
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and is a rising star on the local classical music scene. This concert which will be accompanied by a small chamber ensemble is presented with the greatly appreciated support of Cromer Town Council and Norfolk County Council.
Tickets for the concert are available from Sheringham Little Theatre 01263 822347, K Hardware in Cromer or online www.sheringhamlittle theatre.com priced £12 (under 18s free) or £15 on the door.

Kelling Heath, Quags and Muckleburgh Hill on Saturday 23 March 9am–1pm – meet at the Kelling Heath car park off Holgate Hill, Holt NR25 7ER, Grid Reference OS ODL TG 100419, between the Kelling Estate garden centre (ex-EMCY) and Weybourne. The slightly obscured turn into the car park is on the western side of the road in a dip near the summit. Note: Walking boots with ankle support and grippy soles are advised as there will be short sections of hills to ascend and descend. A scope will be useful but not essential. Distance: 6.5 miles Today's walk will take us across the heath where we will look for the heath's special birds such as Woodlark, Dartford Warbler and Turtle Dove. We should also find Stonechat, Tree Pipit, tit flocks and may be Crossbills; raptors overhead are likely too. After some time on the heath we will walk northwards through the deciduous woodlands to cross the Coast Road to Muckleburgh Hill and Fox Hill looking for spring migrants such as Wheatears. We will return to Kelling Heath and the cars by another woodland path. Children are welcome if accompanied by well-behaved adults, but we regret no dogs. Indoor meeting a talk by Andy Clements - Birds' interactions with the landscape: BTO research at global to local scales on Thursday 28 March 7.30pm–9.30pm - the talk covers local monitoring and what evidence from Atlas and other surveys tells us about changes in distribution and abundance, and then moves to uncovering the mysteries of migration, using various species including cuckoos, swifts, spotted flycatchers and nightingales. Andy joined the Nature Conservancy Council in 1982, and his 24 years with the Government nature conservation agency included field-work on upland birds, Communications and European work and securing Lottery funds for local community areas for wildlife. After species work was seconded to the Department of the Environment, Andy returned to English Nature as Director of Protected Areas with overall responsibility for nationally and internationally important wildlife sites. He also led the successful defence of Dibden Bay at Public Enquiry. After assisting the setting up in early 2006 of Natural England, as Director of Science, Evidence & Policy, Andy undertook freelance strategic environmental consultancy before coming to BTO as Director in August 2007. His work at BTO has included leadership of the BTO Strategy 2009-2014, representing BTO in Government and ensuring our strong profile alongside other Third Sector wildlife organisations. Andy sits on the Cambridge Conservation Initiative Steering Group www.conservation .cam.ac.uk, helping to link BTO scientific research with policy. Ex-policeman holds a captive audience at Mundesley Library Friends talk
in a series put on by Mundesley Library Friends to encourage increased use of the Library.
Traditionally libraries are seen as quiet places for browsing and study – not the case in Mundesley on Friday 1 March!
Instead waves of laughter rippled round the room as ex-policeman Duncan Morris entertained his audience with tales of his life in the force in both Yarmouth and the Metropolitan Police. The talk was the latest
Duncan told of numerous amusing incidents, which he insists are all true - such as when his colleague informed him a passing car was stolen – “How do you know?”, “It’s my car!” Interspersed with the humour were reflective insights into the tragic side of policing that he had to learn to deal with – dealing with the death of an addict on Christmas morning before returning home to family celebrations later in the day.
The hour long talk seemed to pass in minutes before Duncan finished the evening’s entertainment by taking questions from a
fascinated audience.
A donation was made to Duncan’s chosen charity – Grapevine Talking Newspapers for the Blind – and the remaining money will be used by the Library Friends to fund further equipment and improvements at the Library.
This event was the third successful talk hosted by the Library Friends and held at Mundesley Library on Friday evenings.
Further events are planned and the next talk will be on Friday 17 May at 5pm when Bunty Gotts from the National Trust will give us a behind the scenes look at the Library at Blickling, the perils that threaten the collection and measures taken by the Trust to combat any damage. Tickets cost £3 each, including light refreshments, and can be reserved at the Library or by telephoning 01263 720702.
Local MP welcomes decision by Sainsburys to reinstate cash-back service
Following a letter sent by local MP, Norman Lamb, the cash-back service at local Sainsburys store in North Walsham is to return.
The cash-back service in the North Walsham Sainsburys store will be reinstated. This move follows a letter from local MP, Norman Lamb to the Chief Executive of the company.
Concerns were raised by local residents who depended on the service in order to be able to shop and pay for services in the North Walsham area. Recent closures of branches of Barclays, Natwest and HSBC has meant that the Sainsburys cash-back service was an important way for many

to get hold of cash in an area where many small businesses are still predominately paid in cash only.
Norman Lamb MP said “I was really pleased to learn that Sainsburys took on board the concerns I raised in my letter to them. Having the cash-back service once again available in the North Walsham store will be a great relief to many local people who relied on it. This will also be welcome news to many local businesses who feared a loss in business if people were unable to get hold of cash. Sainsburys’ swift response on this should be praised. I am hopeful that the North Walsham local economy will continue to thrive.”

Stephanie is still having problems with the phone so if you do call and she does not get back to you please call again. Sometimes it is obvious there is a problem but this is often not the case. For instance, I phoned Stephanie earlier today and left a message. The answer phone seemed to be working; however, when speaking to her later she advised that she could not hear my message and the answer phone cut out before it had finished. If you are expecting her to call back this may not be the problem and she could have already replied. There are many instances when people come back advising they had not heard from her when she has in fact left a message on their answer phone. Please therefore remember to check for messages before calling again.
We are now coming to that time of the year when young unneutered males stray from home in search of a female. When we receive a call about a lost cat, one of the questions we ask, is what sex is it, and has it been neutered. Often the cat gets lost and does not know its way home. It is also a time when many sadly do not return because they are involved in accidents. To avoid the possibility of losing your cat for either reason, please do get him neutered. Fortunately this does not happen in every instance. One young male cat, that was due to be neutered under our special neutering scheme, recently disappeared for three

weeks and his owner was very anxious as she did not think she would see him again. On his return, however, an appointment was quickly made at the vets and he has now been neutered.
The situation is different with female Isabella, a friendly young cat who loves likes cats. Although she may to play and wants lots of fuss and attention escape to find a mate when she starts to ‘call’, it is very unlikely that she will travel far, and will probably return after a few days, more than likely, pregnant. Not all pregnancies end happily though and because there are already too many cats needing homes, best avoided if possible. A female can get pregnant from four months old, far too young for her to be having babies as she has not finished growing herself.
If you have a young cat please consider their welfare and contact us if you need help with the neutering.

Hedgehog Haven
Dolly (pictured) came in from Southrepps on 19 February. She was found in the garden very underweight at 400grms I would think she had emerged from hibernation. She now weighs a healthy 750grms.
When hedgehogs are curled up, a good sign is that if they are a healthy weight, their shape should be round like a football. A tapered end, like a rugby ball, is an underweight and possibly sick hog and needs help.
Dolly should be ready for release at the end of March beginning of April depending on the weather.

East Anglian Air Ambulance launch momentous campaign to become a 24/7 service
East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) has launched an ambitious plan to become a 24/7 helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) provider by 2020.
The charity currently operates 365-days-a-year but not 24-hours-a-day, meaning that if an incident happened between midnight and 07:00 there is currently no HEMS provision in the region. The charity is aiming to cover this gap and become a full 24/7 HEMS service by 2020. To do that they need to raise an additional £1 million a year to fund the operation. The type of incidents the charity attend – serious road traffic collisions, cardiac arrests, traumatic injuries and other medical emergencies do not stop when their crew go offline. While a 24/7 service seemed to make sense, the charity needed to be sure, so have been gathering evidence to prove it. They worked with the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST), who task them, to review incidents over the course of a year where critical care was required but unavailable. They also assessed the need first-hand by trialling an overnight service via rapid response vehicle (RRV) four days a week from the Norwich base. The results of this work confirmed a significant region-wide need for overnight critical care, particularly in rural Norfolk. In the first twelve months of the overnight trial they attended 220 missions, but they say that with the helicopter they could do so much more.
Matthew Jones, Director of Operations at EAAA, said “Becoming a 24/7 service by air will provide the people of East Anglia with a service that has not previously been available. By operating 24/7 we believe that we will treat approximately 600 more patients every year. Patient care is at the heart of everything we do at EAAA, so if we can be there for 600 more people each year and further reduce the impact of trauma and medical emergencies in the community then this is a great step forward for us. We currently need to raise £12M a year to operate our service, and it will
cost an additional £1m a year to fund a full 24/7 operation.”
Steve Jones has witnessed firsthand the care that EAAA provide. Steve was riding his motorcycle in Norfolk, when a car he overtook turned into his path catapulting him from his motorbike, head-first through a brick wall and into a ditch filled with water. Steve was unconscious and submerged under the water.
The Anglia One crew was activated and, travelling by helicopter, they arrived on scene 21 minutes later. By this time the ditch was filled with Steve’s blood and the team knew they had to get him out quickly. Steve was making gurgling noises but remained unconscious. The crew made the decision to sedate and intubate him to take control of his breathing. He was then packaged and flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Steve had suffered such a traumatic head injury that the team thought he would not survive. Steve remained in hospital for 10 weeks, but last November he walked in to the Norwich base to meet the EAAA team and the EEAST land paramedics who also provided treatment on scene. Not only has he suffered no lasting affects, but he is also in the process of finishing his PhD in Software Engineering. Steve and his wife

Claire said; “My wife and I are extremely grateful for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and their East of England Ambulance Service colleagues. I am in no doubt that these heroes saved my life that day and I am optimistic and positive for the future which includes completing the last parts of my PhD and embarking on a Software Engineering industrial research career.” If Steve’s accident had happened between the hours of midnight and 7am he would not have the received the treatment he did, and it is unlikely that he would have survived. The charity say they are already incredibly grateful to the community for all their support, but are asking for help to raise the additional £1m a year needed to operate 24/7 so they can save more lives like Steve’s. If you would like to find out more about the campaign or to donate, please visit www.mission247.co.uk. Popular North Norfolk District Council herd welcomes its newest members North Norfolk has welcomed some cute new arrivals – the first six fluffy kids to be born as part of the district’s Bagot goat-breeding programme.
The latest additions to the popular herd were a bit wobbly on their feet to start with but the adorable kids are now settling well into Norfolk life, and they will be the stars of a forthcoming slot on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today programme.
It’s the first time officers from North Norfolk District Council have helped rear kids since the Bagots – which are listed as “vulnerable” by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust – arrived in the district in 2016. The nannies and kids are currently having a break away from their habitat management work, at Wiveton Hall, which has itself been in the media spotlight in the past few years thanks to the Normal for Norfolk television series.
The herd was originally brought in to help keep the cliff at Cromer clear, but the Bagots have since caught the eye of Norfolk Wildlife Trust and Suffolk Wildlife Trust, who have bought and borrowed some of the herd for habitat management on their land.
The goats have also become a tourist attraction, and the baby Bagots are sure to prove a hit with the public when they head to Cromer later this year.
Cllr Sarah Butikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said “It was great to see the young goats doing so well, and we are all very proud of the great work that our team is doing with this project.”

RAF Air Defence & Radar Museum
A room devoted to the Bloodhound surface to air missile display, a radio and communications room plus a Tornado Cockpit are among new attractions at a revamped RAF Radar Museum in 2019.
The RAF Radar Museum has undergone a complete revamp over the winter adding even more attractions to its exciting offer as it opens for 2019 season. It follows on from its most successful year ever in 2018 when 10,000 visitors came to the museum a massive 100% increase on the previous year. The additional income has enabled the museum to invest in the visitor experience.
A new room has been created at the RAF Radar Museum to tell the story of the Bloodhound Missile system for 2019. The Bloodhound surface to air missile entered service with the RAF in 1958, the role of the Bloodhound missile system was to protect the UK’s nuclear deterrent, the V-Bomber and Thor missiles bases from air attack.
Research into replacing outmoded Anti-Aircraft guns started in 1944 at the Radar Research & Development Establishment, Malvern, under the codename ‘Red Duster’. The system consisted of long range guided missiles, a 3D search radar and a target illuminating radar.
In the early 70s, in light of the increased low-level Soviet fighter- bomber air threat, UK Bloodhound Mark II missile bases took on a new role with the creation of a Low-level Missile Engagement Zone covering most of East Anglia. In 1983 further bases were established
when Bloodhound units in Germany were redeployed back to the UK. After 33 years of service, the Bloodhound Force was stood down in 1991. The Radar Museum in Horning is fortunate to have one of the surviving missiles on display.
A new radio and communications room has also been added with a dazzling array of vintage equipment from telex and tickertape machines and other equipment used to communicate with fighter command as well as field-based machines.
Also new this season is the restored Nuclear Reporting Cell, which tells the story of how the base was used in the Cold War to warn and track a Nuclear attack and fallout if one occurred. The Nuclear Reporting Cell was formerly staffed by the Royal Observer Corp (ROC) and will have Giga Counters and fall out protective suits on display. It will include information on warning times of attack and monitoring and Cold War Room surveillance. It will also have information on the Dooms Day Clock used to measure the likely risk of a worldwide nuclear catastrophe.
A Tornado Cockpit joins the two other cockpits at the museum and will be housed with the Jaguar cockpit in the ‘hanger room’ and has a viewing platform that enables people to get a view from the co-pilots position. The Tornado www.techgeeks-nw.co.uk www.techgeeks-nw.co.uk | suppor support@techgeeks-nw.co.uk t@techgeeks-nw.co.uk fleet has just ended its 3 Nor Norwich wich Road, Road, Nor North th Walsham, Walsham, Nor Norfolk, folk,, NR28 9JP folk active service in February this year, the museum’s Tornado saw action in the first Gulf War and the aircraft’s full history forms part of the display. Steps enable visitors to look inside the cockpit and also to access the rear of the cockpit to experience the view that the co-pilot would have.

Museum Manager,
Bloodhound
Lynn Kerslake said ‘The museum has totally revamped most rooms over the winter and added three key display areas with new Bloodhound surface to air missile display room which brings to life the siting of these important element of Britain’s Cold War defence capability. In addition, there will be new talks given on Thursdays in the season by a former RAF staff member who worked on the Bloodhound missile system. Also new is a radio and communications room, which brings to life the importance of communicating with our other bases and allies during World War II and The Cold War. These have been added to the existing 21 rooms, meaning that the museum can have even more exciting and interesting exhibits on display from its collection of over 10,000 items. We believe that we have things of interest here for everyone, from those who served in the forces to people who want to know about the part radar played in the Battle of Britain and terrifying reality of the Cold War and the threat of nuclear destruction.”
The museum has also improved its offer to schools, producing learning journeys and materials that will feed into more parts of the school curriculum.
Says Lynn ‘The role that the museum plays in developing our offer as a provider of education materials is important in encouraging young people to think about careers in science and technology.”
The popular RAF Radar Museum, near Horning in The Broads, opens on Tuesday 2 April for the 2019 season and is open four days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until Thursday 31 October from 10am - 5pm. The once Top Secret radar establishment occupies the site of the world’s longest continuously operating radar station and is the biggest museum in North Norfolk. The museum is also open on Easter Bank Holiday Monday and the two May bank holiday Mondays as well as the August one.
The museum is a charity and does not receive grants from any organisation. All income come from visitors and the museum is staffed by over 80 volunteers.

Local residents (of all ages) are invited to come along and discover what’s going on in North Walsham and sample some of the many activities, organisations and groups that are open to them locally. Everyone will be invited to say how life could be made better for themselves and others in the town.
There will be information, activities for all ages, workshops, presentations, refreshments, music and entertainment, as well as conversations about how you can be involved in bringing about the changes you want to see.
Topics will range from fitness and health, community learning, employment and training, volunteering, social activities, recreation, personal finance, care support and assistive technology.
The event is for all who wish to become more involved in their community or who wish to have some support to enable them to do so.

■ People with chronic health difficulties or disabilities
■ Anyone who feels lonely or isolated for any reason.
Transport to get to the event and assistance to get around will be available.
North Walsham Think Carer Network has initiated this event and its Treasurer, Felicity Christian says, “we aim to let local people know about the many activities that are going on in the town and how they can get involved. We will also be asking how things could be made even better. We aim to make the event as joyful, interesting and active as possible – a real party atmosphere!”
NEW
Particularly welcomed will be:
■ Those new to the town, or whose circumstances have recently changed e.g. recently retired or bereaved; children left home or started school

Books
Books are like chests full of treasure, Each full to the brim with rare gems! No book is alike, it's like riding a bike On roads with continuous bends! To open a book is to step through A door to a whole different view. These places you find, may well blow your mind, As you walk into worlds that are new. You will meet lots of interesting people, Some of them who don’t give a fig! They, you will find, leave decorum behind, While others are so infra dig! Times and places can change in an instant, Depending which book you prefer. Some tell of space, or a magical place Where all sorts of strange things occur! I know people who hate reading fiction! Facts are only what they want to read! That’s all very well, but truth to tell, That won’t do for me, no, indeed. You can keep all your kindles and such like, It’s so soulless, this modern IT. But a book’s special smell, and the stories they tell, Nothing beats a good book for me!

Mini-tummy tuck at the Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic
Are you bothered by the appearance of excess fat and skin in your lower abdomen? Are you struggling to get in shape after pregnancy, childbirth or ‘C’ section operation?
Mini-tummy tuck at the Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic may just be the solution you are looking for.
What is a mini tummy tuck or miniabdominoplasty procedure? It is a procedure to address stubborn area of stretched, sagging skin and fat on your lower tummy. Pregnancy, aging and genetics are common culprits behind a belly pouch and unfortunately, diet and exercise are often ineffective in helping to get rid of it. If you are bothered by the appearance of your lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck may help you get the results you want with a relatively short recovery.
How is mini-tummy tuck different from a full tummy tuck?
Full tummy tuck is a major operation performed under general anaesthesia. It is suitable for patients after massive weight loss, patients with severe stretch marks all over their abdomen or in patients with significant muscle wall laxity or abdominal hernias. It requires a longer scar, wide undermining which risks blood supply to the skin hence liposuction is not carried out during this procedure. There is a scar around the belly button as it has to be moved. It is a major procedure that provides a tighter but not necessary slimmer appearance. Mini tummy tuck is a good option in patients with skin excess in lower part of their belly. Mini tummy tuck is a less invasive option. This uses a relatively short incision in the same area of a C-section scar and avoids the incision around the belly button. This is often performed on women who have mild sagging or post-baby pouch, stretch marks from pregnancy, or C-section scarring. This procedure focuses only on the area below the belly button, not the entire abdomen. We nearly always add liposuction to our tummy tucks to sculpt the body in 3-dimension. The technique known also as mini lipo-abdominoplasty with no undermining, makes it possible to safely combine lipo-sculpture of the abdomen with lower abdomen skin tightening. Unlike traditional tummy tucks, this operation allows for more contouring of the abdomen.
It gives a result that is both tight and shapely.
What are the advantages of a miniabdominoplasty? • Enhancing of the body shape and silhouette as a result of liposuction. • Preservation of the perforating blood vessels. • Lower rate of complications. • Easier surgery performances. • Natural profiles. • Preservation of supra-pubic skin sensitivity. • More security for smokers and post bariatric surgeries.
Am I a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck? A mini tummy tuck may be a great option if you are healthy and at a stable weight, without a large excess of abdominal skin. Typically, the best candidates are primarily concerned about loose skin or a protruding lower belly only if you have significant stretched, sagging skin or muscles, a full tummy tuck may achieve better results. Mini tummy tuck surgery is not a substitute for weight loss or a healthy exercise program. Although the results are lasting, the outcome can be influenced by changes in your weight following surgery. If you are planning substantial weight loss or if you are considering future pregnancy, you may be advised to postpone mini tummy tuck surgery.

North Walsham Table Tennis Full House for Grimes as Dolphins beat Cobras
In the First Division the teams currently in second and third met as LCC Dolphin's David Grimes, Keegan Hammond and Chris Taylor hosted North Walsham Cobra's Colin Smith, Richard Porritt and Ben Lester. Porritt took a brace as he edged Hammond 12-10 in the fourth but he was beaten in five by maximum man Grimes who recovered from two down. Hammond also took a brace beating Smith in straight and winning a battle of serves against Lester in five. A vital doubles saw Grimes and Hammond defeat Lester and Porritt in four to seal a 6-4 win for Dolphins. North Walsham Echoes Adam Miller, Frank Weston and John Chapman hosted Barracuda's Chris Marshall, Keith Register and Clive Hedges. Barracudas won this one 10-0 with Hedges playing well despite suffering from a case of Gambian flu. Weston was very unlucky to come away empty handed losing all his four battles in five including the doubles with Chapman who had earlier led Marshall by two sets.
In the Premier Division, North Walsham Beta's Mark Blackburn, Stuart Hook and Phil Stone hosted Poacher's Chris Fuller and Andy and Laura Marsh. Stone made a good start taking the first eight points of the opener, but Fuller hit back to win in four. Blackburn went the distance in all three of his singles as he edged Laura Marsh and came back from two sets to one and 0-6 and then 4-9 down in
It was third against first at Scottow on 2 March and the Vikings so nearly dented Rochford's 100% record, going down just 24 -23. Urged on by a large crowd, including members of the Dragonshields & Wuffa Vikings & Saxons Re-enactment Societies (pictured with some Minis players), they led 20 - 10 going into the final quarter before two converted tries in five minutes put Rochford ahead. Matt Hodgson's penalty took the Vikings within a point with eight minutes left, but it was not to be. It was a pulsating game and the Vikings put in a truly memorable and outstanding performance. the fourth to beat Fuller but was unable to complete his maximum against Andy Marsh. Fuller took a maximum while both Laura (who beat Hook in five and saved set-points in the opening set of her win in straight against Stone) and Andy Marsh took braces. An entertaining doubles saw Blackburn and Stone nearly force a decider from half a dozen match-points down, but Fuller and Laura Marsh won 13-11 in the fourth to complete Poacher's 8-2 win. In the Second Division, North Walsham Foxtrot's Marceli Gabriel, Tom Wardle and Phil Mole won 10-0 away against Mundesley D with no sets dropped.
Two second round ties in the Handicap Doubles Cup took place at North Walsham Sports Centre as Alpha's Andy Beane (10) and Richard Westgate (14) were joined by Phil Stone (28) to host Aylsham Hathor's Andrew Gale (12), Peter Ward (28) and Ray Gale (28). All of the battles in this one were close and saw frequent momentum shifts as first one team strung together a run of points before their opponents did likewise – if one team caught up from behind, they then could not stay ahead. Ray Gale played some stunning defensive shots throughout. The Gales won the first battle against Stone and Westgate 61-58 before Ward and Ray Gale defeated Beane and Westgate 61-48. A 61-59 win for Stone and Beane over Ward and Andrew
some perspective: Rochford average 61 points for and eight against per match, their narrowest winning margin was previously 17 and the Vikings' bonus point (for losing by less than eight points) was the first they have conceded.
Gale pulled one back for the hosts and then Alpha took the next three battles with Hathor reaching scores in the early fifties each time. A run of five points on serve for Westgate at 50-55 down in the seventh battle partnered with Beane proved vital as the duo won the golden point against Ward and Andrew Gale to complete a 5-2 victory. On the adjoining table, Delta's Gudi Scham (40), Sarah Tudhope (42) and Tony Bispham (43) hosted Aylsham Norada's Tom Mountain (42), Roger Crouch (44) and John Hall (42). The closeness of the handicaps meant this one was effectively a quick-fire race to be the first to score twenty points or so and Norada took an unassailable 5-0 lead. The four dead rubbers were shared with Bispham producing some great smashing returns, but it was Norada who progressed with a 7-2 win.
LCC Dolphin's David Grimes (35), Keegan Hammond (36) and Chris Taylor (40) hosted North Walsham Foxtrot's Tom Wardle (40), Marceli Gabriel (43) and Simon Porritt (45). The handicaps again saw some quick-fire games with Foxtrots starting between 4-6 points ahead and Dolphins running out 5-0 winners with some very consistent play from Taylor. Meanwhile Echoes reached the quarter-finals after Aylsham Conqueror conceded their tie.
The Vikings remain third with 84 points, seven behind Colchester. There are five games left including fixtures with the three teams immediately below them: HAC, Old Haberdashers and Amersham. The Raiders remain unbeaten in Eastern Counties One Plate, their latest victory Cambridge 3rd XV 39 - 0 away. Alexandra Doe and Beth Cass, two of the Club's Under 15 Girls side, have been selected by Eastern Counties, whilst Jack van Poortvliet, who came through the Youth & Minis at Scottow and is now at Leicester Tigers Academy, has been included in the England Under 18s squad.
The Vikings have two home fixtures left: Amersham on 23 March and HAC on 6 April.
