Community Conversation and Contact Point Thursdays weekly 9.30am – 4.30pm

This weekly drop-in is an opportunity for anyone to come and talk to local volunteers about anything including information about what goes on in the town, where to find further support, and to explore opportunities for joining local groups. You are welcome to pop in for just a chat or to see how it might be helpful for you or your neighbours and family. There will be an opportunity to search for services on line, to pick up leaflets, or to discuss personally what individuals might need to improve their experience of living in North Walsham. It is also a chance for people involved with local groups to promote what you do, encourage more members or discuss what support you want for your group.

The Community Conversation and Contact Point takes place at the Parish Church of St Nicholas in the centre of North Walsham.

This is a project to follow on from the Big Bash in May 2019, with relevant groups working together to continue sharing information as initiated at the Big Bash. ‘Big Bash 2’ is taking place on 25 April this year! Continued on page 4...

Dear Margaret,

We are the Friends of North Walsham War Memorial Hospital – and, since we formed 71 years ago, have been providing ‘extras’ for patients, visitors and staff thanks to money donated by the public. This year we have changed our name, slightly. Our official title, going back to a town meeting to form us in January 1949, used to be The League of Friends of North Walsham War Memorial Cottage Hospital. A bit of a mouthful I think you would agree. We are now – with the approval of the Charity Commission –the Friends of North Walsham War Memorial Hospital. Only a slight change, so why have we done it? Firstly to reflect the modern nature of the hospital. The era of local “cottage” hospitals, with a few beds for local people, has gone. These days North Walsham is a busy 24-bed unit providing postoperative, geriatric and palliative care for patients from all over Norfolk. Secondly it is simpler. You would be amazed at the different combinations of words we get on donation cheques send to the Friends, which we rely on heavily for buying the extras for the hospital. So, by removing the League and Cottage, we hope it will stop confusion and save our treasurer having to ask kind benefactors to re-send their generous gifts with the correct name so we can pay them into the bank. The name change, agreed at the annual general meeting (along with an updating of our constitution and rules) has now been rubber-stamped by the Charity Commission. It is being rolled out through our paperwork, Facebook page and our website www.northwalshamhospitalfriends.org.uk It involved a lot of form-filling, but we think it is worth it to bring us up to date and make things easier for you, the public, to donate the funds that fuel our work. The name has changed but the aim’s the same! Keith Jarvis Chairman, Friends of North Walsham War Memorial Hospital

North Walsham is Open for Business

“Despite the slow moving gas main renewal works and the confusing traffic diversions, North Walsham’s shops and businesses are very much trading as normal”.

This is the message from the town’s Mayor, Garry Bull and Chair of the Chamber for Business, Nick Lee.

They also highlighted the importance of continuing to support these through this difficult time and into the future.

North Walsham in Bloom What a lovely winter we are having!

Home Improvements

North Walsham in Bloom are about to start work again on all our 11 beds and 24 tubs, not to mention eight towers, for the spring. This will involve replacing some of the autumn bedding which have not survived the damp weather we have been having, and the vine weevil.

PERSONAL & FRIENDLY SERVICE

Last week some of us hung 250 red crocheted hearts onto the shrubs in the Openreach bed and the Post Office bed. These were made for us by the ladies of the Crochet Club which runs in North Walsham Bowls Club on New Road. We have other plans for them when we take them down after Valentine’s Day.

Due to the mild winter we have had so far, the Cana lilies we have in some of our tubs and beds seem to be holding their own, and we have fingers crossed that we will not have to replace them in the spring. As the root system on these is large, it will be a major job to get them out of the tubs without spoiling other plants. We are really delighted with the polyanthus we have this year in our bird bath bed and the town sign bed. They really are a riot of colour and we are all trying very hard to keep the chickweed down on both beds. This will probably take two years of quite intense hand weeding, as this is the only way to get rid of this weed. By the time you read this we will have taken out the geraniums from the Church cross and the daffodils should be all out in flower. The daffodils in Grammar School Road are now in flower and look very Spring Like.

Your property in safe hands for generations Hayes + Storr Solicitors handle a whole range of property sales and purchases with care and professionalism.

We are pleased to welcome some students from Paston College who will be helping us from now on, indeed they planted the polyanthus in the barrier baskets in front of Specsavers just after Christmas and these are doing really well. They will also be planting the Lobelia in the town during our summer planting programme which starts the first week in June.

Please remember if you would like to join us, please contact me on 01692 405211, or through our website www.northwalshaminbloom.com

Steampunk charity ball comes to Norfolk in June

Celebrate 20 years of saving lives with East Anglian Air Ambulance and attend the Norfolk Show Ball on Friday 26 June at the Norfolk Showground.

This exclusive event will offer guests the opportunity to be amongst the first to hear how the charity has evolved over the past 20 years and its future plans, as it gets closer to launching a 24/7 service by helicopter from Norwich. Tickets will include a drinks reception on the lawn, followed by a four-course dinner alongside charity staff, crew and supporters.

Join East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) for an amazing evening of fine food and entertainment to mark the charity’s 20th anniversary. The event will celebrate the incredible community which has made 20 years of saving lives across East Anglia possible.

Phillipa Levy, Special Events Fundraiser, said “It’s a huge honour for the charity to have been selected as the beneficiary of the Norfolk Show Ball this year. Not only does the event help us to celebrate our 20th anniversary, but it also allows us to say thank you to the supporters and volunteers who have helped us to get here. We are especially

Inspired by the 19th-century industrial era, the ball theme is ‘Magnificent Men and Women and their flying machines’, encouraging guests to get creative with the dress code and add a steampunk twist to the normal black tie.

Scientific breakthrough evolves into family fun

The fun family-friendly event, aimed from youngsters aged seven upwards, sees Charles sharing his own family history, songs he has written and some new discoveries about barnacles – before he learns another naturalist has come up with a theory about evolution which spurs him into action.

Tickets cost ÂŁ75 per person. Table bookings are also available for groups of 8 - 12 people. For information and to book tickets, please visit www.eaaaball.co.uk

Local Author at Book Signing

Local resident Shirley Oliver will be attending a book signing to promote her new novel. Shirley was born in Cambridge but moved here to North Walsham in October 2018. Since then, working part time has allowed her the privilege of having the time to complete her first book.

Now published by Author House Publications, ‘Together Forever Apart’ is a romantic fiction novel. It tells the story of Nikki Edwards who, at the age of twelve, meets the man she is to love for the rest of her life. Being in love with a man nearly twenty years her senior brings so much heartache but she is determined that one day they will be together. It’s a story of determination, betrayal and compromise, but above all love.

Shirley will be at the North Walsham library on Saturday 21 March between 1pm - 4pm, and copies of the book will be available to purchase at that time.

Alternatively if you’d like a copy, you can contact seoliver_author@yahoo.com or it’s available from both Amazon and Author House Publication.

Lemon and Cardamom Biscuits

ingredients • 225g butter, softened • 150g caster sugar • 1 lemon, zest only • 250g plain flour • 100g ground almonds • 3 tsp ground cardamom or 1 heaped tsp cardamom seeds, ground in a pestle and mortar

It’s not long to go now until one of favourite occasions of the year, Mother’s Day, and what better to surprise the relevant person with than a batch of these wonderful biscuits (and she thought you couldn’t cook!)

The kitchen brigade often whip these up in a quiet moment and they are always very well received by the staff, though they don’t last very long…

If you are after a special Mother’s Day then we still have a couple of spaces left for Afternoon Tea on Sunday 22nd March – but book quickly because they are going fast. Or alternatively treat her to a lovely three-course dinner; we are open every evening from 5pm. 01263 512412 to book!

Former Pacha and Ministry of Sound resident DJ joins the Classic Ibiza Party

4. Roll the dough into 24 balls and place 12 on each baking tray – make sure you leave space between each one. 5. Press each cookie with a cookie stamp or the bottom of a glass to flatten and leave decorative indentations in the dough. 6. Bake a tray at a time for 12–14 minutes until the cookies are pale golden brown. 7. Leave them to cool on the tray for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. They will crisp up as they cool. Store the cookies in an airtight tin and eat within 7 days.

Method 1. Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5. Line 2 large baking trays with baking parchment.

2. Using an electric hand-whisk, beat the butter, sugar and lemon zest together in a large bowl until pale and fluffy.

3. Beat in the flour, almonds and cardamom until the mixture is well combined and comes together to form a stiff dough.

New ‘chill-out DJ set’ performed by Jose Luis adds an extra hour to the programme at Blickling on 8 August

This summer’s Classic Ibiza will start with a new ‘chill-out DJ set’ performed by Jose Luis, a Caracas-born DJ who has been resident at some of the world’s biggest clubs, including Pacha Ibiza and Ministry of Sound London. The new set will add an extra hour to the programme, allowing the Blickling audience to enjoy the whole Classic Ibiza experience for even longer.

Bringing a mix of old-school house with a Latin flavour, Jose Luis will transport the crowd to one of the White Isle’s iconic chill-out bars, where they can relax and listen to ambient tunes, while enjoying their picnics and drinks in the idyllic outdoor setting of the Blickling estate.

Following Jose Luis’ set, the Urban Soul Orchestra and vocalists will then take to the stage for the first time for the ‘sundowner set’ and the crowd will be taken on a magical rollercoaster ride of dance music’s rich play-list. Expect tracks from the likes of Orbital, Moby and Paul van Dyk, reinvented by musicians who have worked with the very best in the industry, including Groove Armada, Nightmares On Wax and Robert Miles.

The rhythm will build further during Goldierocks’ ‘house DJ set’, which is packed full of stone-cold dance anthems. The concert then reaches a crescendo during the ‘dance set,’ when the orchestra and vocalists return to the stage as night falls and the grounds of Blickling turn into an alfresco nightclub with accompanying lasers. Expect tracks from the likes of The Prodigy and The Shapeshifters, to Faithless and Underworld.

USO has released “Classic Ibiza”, an album of iconic dance anthems, which features many of the tracks being played on the night and is available on CD and all major music websites and apps.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

Although there has been lots of interest in the cats in care, most are still with us as it is important to make sure that the home environment is right for a particular cat, especially if it has a timid nature. Unfortunately, most of these would not be happy in a home where there are young children or dogs as they do need a quiet environment. Homes with experienced cat owners ready and willing to give them plenty of time to settle are ideal as they will not be put off if the cat hides when it first arrives. Over the years we have seen many cats like this and all have been very loving companions once they gain confidence and often turn out to be the most rewarding. Otto and Olga, rehomed by us last year are two prime examples. Both took a little time to settle and both are now very loving lap cats.

It is also important to remember when coming to visit the cats to offer them a new home, that being in a cat pen is not their natural environment. Although the pens are much larger nowadays and do have an area where they can play, as well as a nice warm housing unit with heaters and heat pads, compared to living in a house they are quite small. When someone comes to view them, the cat often finds itself surrounded by people and is unable to get away. Although some cats might enjoy this attention (cats like lovely Octopussy) many will feel threatened and you may not see them at their best. We therefore suggest that it is best to take things slowly, and on entering the pen one at a time, wait for the cat to come to you. They may still be hesitant so be guided by the information given by their carer to appreciate how they react with people they know and are used to. Cats are naturally solitary creatures but some do enjoy sharing their homes with animals including other cats. Those that come into care from multi cat households will often enjoy having a companion, however, we have had instances where a cat has blossomed once on its own. If you are looking for a new cat please listen to the advice their carers give you as they are committed to making sure their

charges find the ideal home.

Our fundraising this year commences with a collection at Morrisons store in Cromer on Monday 23 March. Please support Barbara, who organises the collections, and her friends who will be there raising money for the cats in care.

Hedgehog Haven

On a wet and windy Sunday 16 February Valentine was found out during the day, very wet, cold, weak and thin.

The first thing to do when a hog comes into care like this is to gently get them warm as offering food will do more harm than good.

The next morning I was able to syringe feed him some rehydration fluid and later in the day some diluted food.

At the moment I am syringe feeding three hourly until he is strong enough to feed himself.

Serving the North Norfolk community since 1990

I will be at North Walsham Garden Centre on Norwich Road between 10am and 3pm on Sunday 8 March with information leaflets, a few hedgehog items and a tombola.

North Norfolk Guide Dog Support Forum for visually impaired just gets bigger and better by working together with Vision Norfolk

The North Norfolk Support Forum is inclusive for sharing information for people who are blind or partially sighted (regardless of whether you are a service user of a guide dog), their families, friends, or carers.

sight loss. Guide Dogs strategy ‘By My Side’ states Guide Dogs as an organisation want to go from supporting 250,000 people to 500,000 in five years. This does not mean providing 500,000 guide dogs! Support can be in many different forms, using different services but also ensuring we effectively signpost to other organisations and have good relations with those organisations too. Attending groups and being part of something is a vital way to improve networking and own sense of well-being.

People who want to or do volunteer for guide dogs, supporters and fund raisers.

During 2019 North Norfolk co-ordinators looked at how to increase the attendance of this meeting forum, and whilst moving forum from North Walsham to Cromer did help, we can still do more to help more people with sight loss.

Every Tuesday, Vision Norfolk holds a coffee morning for those with

Our case this month was rushed in this morning having suffered a very unfortunate, but surprisingly common emergency. His name is Monty and he is a rather handsome 5 year old lurcher who likes to chase a ball. On this occasion he had jumped to catch a large rubber ball and inhaled it down the back of his throat where it had become lodged. Objects of a certain size can become stuck, unable to be swallowed or coughed back up and they can obstruct the airway leading to devastating consequences. Fortunately for Monty his owner recognised the seriousness of the situation and brought him straight in where we checked him over before anaesthetising him immediately once the crash cart and emergency trolley had been brought to hand. In his case the ball was well and truly stuck, but some air was able to pass across it where small pieces had been chewed off. With a bit of work we were able to remove the ball in its entirety and he was recovered from his anaesthetic following antiinflammatories to reduce the swelling and under the careful supervision of our nursing team. The ball has since been disposed of and I suspect he won’t be encouraged to catch another one anytime soon! Whilst chatting to Monty’s owner she recalled another episode with a different dog who had swallowed a raw hide chew that had unravelled and become stuck in her throat. In her instance the obstruction moved of its own accord and no harm was done, but it is a useful lesson to take care with the toys that you give your pets. Try to avoid objects that can be swallowed whole and always keep a close eye on them to ensure they don’t develop toy chewing habits that could get them into trouble in the future!

Chris from Sheringham, visually impaired and guide dog owner plus volunteer forum coordinator, comments "We are delighted to announce, Vision Norfolk (formerly Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind - NNAB) have agreed to allow us to combine four of their coffee mornings with our Guide Dogs Support Forum allowing us to have a greater reach, and continue to attract more people with visual loss and engage varied speakers covering technical/educational support, and social activities for visually impaired friends and families".

Forum dates to add to your diaries are 17 March, 14 July and 10 November 10am to 1pm at Merchants Court in Cromer.

Friends bring fun and games to North Walsham Hospital

Patients and visitors at North Walsham War Memorial Hospital can enjoy playing board games and doing jigsaws thanks to a little help from their Friends.

A selection of games, including Scrabble and Connect 4, have been donated to the town’s hospital by its Friends support group.

The Friends channel public donations and fundraising into a range of ‘extras’ aimed at improving the lives of patients, visitors and staff.

Chairman Keith Jarvis said “The games came from a suggestion by staff to provide something to entertain patients and their visitors. Time can sometimes seem to pass slowly in hospital and this will hopefully help patients amuse themselves or have a fun time with their visiting families and friends.”

The games and some replacement TV controls for the wards and day room cost the Friends £104.

When sunlight sparkles on cobwebs, When seed heads put on a brave show, When ice freezes puddles and bird baths, See the brilliance of Winter aglow.

When frost patterns grow on the windows, When the moonlight glides over the snow, When icicles capture the sunlight, See the splendour of Winter aglow.

When winds blow through chimneys and key holes, When Nature is on a go-slow, We huddle in woollies and slippers, Snuggled up with our warm fire aglow! Don’t just look upon Winter’s bleak side, The starkness of field and hedgerow, It has many beautiful facets, See the glory of Winter aglow!

Opening of the re-designed North Norfolk Visitor Centre in Cromer

Let us help yyou… ou…

Refurbished centre brings an exciting new feature and a big step towards inclusivity.

North Norfolk Visitor Centre has re-opened its doors after undergoing a complete redesign to showcase the special interest of the North Norfolk Coast and provide enhanced, accessible, facilities for visitors to Cromer. The Visitor’s Centre will feature an exciting Discovery Zone as part of North Norfolk District Council’s (NNDC) Deep History Coast initiative.

In addition to its usual role of providing visitor information and signposting the District’s attractions, the Centre will feature audiovisual, interactive and tactile displays explaining the evolution of our coastline and the wealth of evidence that puts this area amongst the most historically significant in the world. The Centre welcomes explorers, young and old, and guides them on their trail to discover the Deep History Coast and enjoy the hospitality offered by our wealth of local businesses, many of whom are signed up as ambassadors to the project.

Working closely with the Norfolk Museum Service, the Centre will be a shop-window to the fascinating sites that can be discovered in north Norfolk. It will be a hub for activities and, alongside the Deep History Coast digital app, it will signpost visitors to where they can dig a little deeper, for example by visiting Cromer Museum’s geology hub or the fossil collection at Sheringham Museum.

The Centre is the perfect point from which to learn more about the Discovery Trail, a series of 11 interactive sites stretching along the 22 miles of coastline between Weybourne and Cart Gap. These installations reveal even more fascinating content when used in conjunction with the Deep History Coast app.

Cllr Virginia Gay, NNDC’s Portfolio Holder for Culture and Wellbeing, said “I am delighted to announce the completion of our new North Norfolk Visitor Centre. It will give the perfect introduction to the story of North Norfolk's Deep History Coast, a story which stretches back hundreds of thousands of years. But we're also very proud of the new facilities within the building, especially the new fully accessible Changing Places room which is the first in our District, meaning the new attraction is open to all to enjoy.”

The public conveniences at the Visitor Centre, adjacent to Cromer’s Meadow car park, have been refurbished and redesigned, providing space for the new ‘Changing Places’ room, one of many being installed by NNDC across the District. Changing Places provide users with a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and hoist system. They are sufficiently spacious and appropriately designed to meet the needs of those who are supported by up to two carers.

SOLD SOLD

The works to transform the building were part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, with NNDC funding the remainder and meeting the costs of the refurbished WCs.

Clinical Negligence – When is medical treatment negligent?

The value of clinical negligence claims against the NHS was reported this week as being in excess of £80bn. A number of issues arise out of the reports, including the extent to which the NHS is learning from previous mistakes, defensive medicine and the standard of care provided to patients across all disciplines of medicine.

The issue of whether care provided to a patient is negligent or not will depend very much on the type of care provided.

Care, for these purposes, includes the interpretation of investigations, for example x-rays and blood samples, the provision of information regarding treatment options, including surgery and prescription drugs, as well as any surgery or non-invasive treatment provided.

North Walsham Social Club for the Blind

Although the standards by which treatment will be judged by the Courts continue to evolve, there are a number of areas where the picture is becoming clearer.

Thursday 6 February saw the start of our 2020 season. After all the Christmas festivities it was nice to get back and meet old friends and enjoy a chat.

The long-standing principles in the leading cases of Bolam and Bolitho still exist, but are applied more sparingly, for instance, the decision of a medical professional to follow one of a number of choices regarding a patient's care must still be one that a reasonable body of medical opinion would adopt and which stands up to logical scrutiny.

Our entertainer for the afternoon was Barry Eke who sang a medley of songs from the 50s & 60s. Barry entertains us every year and never lets us down. The raffle cashed in £33.

Clinicians are required to take reasonable care in interpreting the results of scans, blood and tissue samples, which is a slightly different standard. One notable development in recent years is the extent to which medical staff are required to inform patients about the risks associated with particular treatment or surgery. Courts have found that, even when surgery or treatment has been carried out non-negligently, but medical staff have given insufficient information about the risks of that treatment, a claim could succeed. Medical staff are under a greater duty to both consider the risks of treatment and inform patients of them in order for a valid informed consent to be given.

It is at this time of the year that there are many absentees through illness and people having long Christmas holidays, so at this point the Club would like to thank Glenis Dillon from North Walsham & Bradfield Flower Club who stepped in to make the birthday posies while our regular lady is poorly.

We would also like to thank all the local businesses and charities who donated to our Christmas raffle including The Rotary Club, Round Table, Three Cottages, Tescos of Stalham & Aylsham, Roys North Walsham, Waitrose, Sainsburys, Morrisons of Cromer and Cromer Pier.

Clinical negligence claims are frequently complex, and it is important that anyone considering such a claim seeks advice at the earliest opportunity. To arrange an appointment with one of our clinical

North Walsham Table Tennis League The League was saddened to learn of the passing of Albert Sawyer Albert played for the North Walsham Club for many years and was a key player in the Club's early history as well as being tournament secretary alongside Chris Johnson.

Former League President John Vaughan paid tribute saying “It was a privilege to have known Albert. He was a lovely gentle man, one of the ‘old school’, who played table tennis and cricket in the spirit of the game. And whilst it is appropriate to say his table tennis was good, his cricket was superb. A cover drive he played at Bodham some years ago when we both represented the League in a cricket friendly, was typical Albert - the stroke was played with authority and graceful elegance. He was a true sportsman. Sport was of course only part of the man. Albert was a devoted husband to Mary, father, stepfather, grandfather and great grandfather and our thoughts are with his family at this time. On a personal note Albert was my friend and away from table tennis and cricket I shall miss our conversations about poetry and literature”. Current President Peter Ward also paid tribute adding “Funnily enough my first thoughts went to Bodham where I played and batted alongside Albert. JV has got it spot on, a real gentle gentleman. His wise words that day telling me to play with a straight bat fell on deaf ears and I was soon out! He had a knowing twinkle in his eye. Most of my discussions with him were on cricket especially when the Ashes were occurring and a shake of his head showed what he thought of the way the game is sometimes played

Bring it on Burgh

Family to open up private parkland to norfolk runners Blur drummer and Norfolk County Councillor Dave Rowntree will open a new family fun run event on a private estate near Aylsham. Bring It On Burgh, a 5km mixed-terrain route, will start in beautiful parkland which has never before been open to the public. Runners will pass through a picturesque unspoilt water meadow set against the backdrop of the River Bure, and past a stunning English Heritage monument. The event in Burgh-next-Aylsham is the brainchild of Susie Anderson, the daughter of the landowner, who was inspired to organise the fundraiser after two people close to her were diagnosed with cancer.

now, He will be sorely missed by all and our thoughts are with Mary and all the family”

In the Premier Division, Aylsham Enterprise's Andrew Latham, Ben Briggs and Harley Dyson hosted North Walsham Alpha's Andy Beane, Robin Thaxter and Tom Baldock-Yaxley. Latham won the opener in five against Beane and all of his singles went the distance as he edged Baldock-Yaxley 12-10 in the fifth before being beaten 11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4 by Thaxter. After losing his opening two battles in straight, Briggs picked up an impressive 11-8, 11-4, 11-6 win against Baldock-Yaxley. The visitors won the rest of the battles in a mix of three and four – with Beane defeating Dyson 16-14 in the fourth – as Alpha won 7-3. There was another Aylsham versus North Walsham battle on the adjoining table and this one was full of twists and turns as Hathor's Ray Gale, Peter Ward and Rob Ollman hosted Cobra's Phil Stone and Robert and Marceli Gabriel. Gale took the first 14-12 on an edge before being in control of the rest of the opener against Stone, before the third set proved crucial in Robert Gabriel's four set defeat of Ward. Marceli Gabriel won a battle of great hitting by both players in five against Ollman, before Stone and Ward shared their first two sets. Stone came from 7-10 to take the third 12-10 before Ward saved two match-points to take the fourth 13-11. Stone saved a match-point with a ridiculous fluke net-cord return from a smash, but hit long on Ward's second as the League President closed out his win 11-9 in the fifth. Great defending from Gale saw him beat Marceli Gabriel

Dedicated to raising funds for Cancer Research UK, the run will finish in a specially set-up ‘village’ with live music, artisan food and drink, holistic treatments and a ‘Tree of Hope’ and remembrance. The bands booked are DGAS women’s acoustic African drumming group, Polymer 5, BroadBeat Choir and Spangle Pans. “Cancer touches all of our lives in some form, be it personally, family member, friend or colleague,” says Susie. “My initial reaction when I found out that my cousin and best friend had both been diagnosed with cancer was that of shock and helplessness, but I got the seeds of an idea to try and put on an event to raise some money for Cancer Research UK and I love running, so I put the two together and it gathered pace from there.” The event on Saturday 20 June, at Wood Lane, Burgh-Next-Aylsham, has already attracted support

in five, before Robert Gabriel defeated Ollman in three. Good defensive work from Marceli, combined with forehand attack saw him beat Ward in four. The drama continued as Ollman forced a decider from two down against Stone, but the Cobra captain came through 11-9 in the fifth – hitting a winner to take his second chance after serving off on his first match-point. Gale was 6-10 down in the fifth against Robert Gabriel, who was lucky to come through on a net-cord smash winner after going for and missing winners on half a dozen match-points as well as saving a couple of Gale's. Gabriel won 11-6, 8-11, 13-11, 10-12, 15-13. The doubles summed up the closeness of the match as Stone and Marceli Gabriel missed four match-points at 10-6 in the fifth before winning 7-11, 16-14, 9-11, 11-2, 12-10 to close out a 7-3 win for Cobras. Robert Gabriel took a good full house for Cobras the following week as the team drew with Aylsham Enterprise. Alpha also won 10-0 against Sharks while Beta were beaten 7-3 by Hathor.

In the First Division, a busy time and some good results for Foxtrots who beat LCC Crabs 10-0 and Mundesley B 6-4 as well as drawing with Mundesley C. Echoes were beaten 8-2 by Aylsham Norada and 6-4 by LCC Crabs. Finally two wins for Delta in the Second Division – 7-3 away to Barracudas and 8-2 at home to Aylsham Albion.
