Players Celebrate 21 Years!
Continued from front cover... Colin said he was very happy with the way the cast gelled well together in the musical panto. He added “some people would not believe that we only rehearse twice a week for eight weeks prior to the show which equates to basically 16 rehearsals for the main cast and 8 rehearsals for the chorus. Obviously no show can be performed without the backstage and technical crew too and they were kept on their toes by endless sound effects and special effects including an abseiling spider and climbing MOTOR SERVICES LIMITED beanstalk. Also with the great looking backdrops it all added to the magical effect of pantomime”.
Kelly Clarke 01692 405495
As normal money raised from the shows will be finding its way to local good causes.

Update on the Splash Leisure and Fitness Centre The Splash swimming pool in Sheringham will remain closed in the coming weeks as repair work is undertaken to damage caused by high winds.

Electronic Diagnosis
Following a survey of the building, remedial work will also be carried out to ensure users can continue to enjoy Splash until Sheringham’s new pool opens in 2021. Sarah Bütikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said “We apologise for the inconvenience this prolonged closure may cause to families and regular users of the swimming pool but our priority has to be the safety of the public and our staff.
Servicing - Tyres - Batteries 1 Cornish Way Business Park North Walsham Norfolk NR28 0FE
“This is a building which is coming to the end of its life and is displaying many of the problems associated with ageing infrastructure. Whilst we want to keep it open as we build the new leisure centre, we must ensure it is safe and able to withstand all weathers including high winds.
Cllr Bütikofer continued “We are still at the stage of commissioning the work and so, as yet, we do not know exactly how long it will take. Clearly we are keen to ensure the closure is kept to a minimum.” Other services at Splash remain open as normal.

Women with Wings
The speaker at the February meeting of North Walsham and District Probus Club was the Rev. Penelope Dent who gave a fascinating talk on Women in Aviation.
There were far more women involved in aviation before world war one and they not only flew aircraft but also maintained them, in fact Amy Johnson was recognized as a passable pilot but an excellent engineer. It was often the case that women bought their own planes. Sadly as the use of air power became more popular there were far more rules and regulations and the women were gradually filtered out.
Amy Johnson went on to work in partnership with Lady Heath, the better pilot, flew the aeroplane and Amy maintained the engine. Lady Heath was the first woman to fly to South Africa, she took off from Croydon airfield.
Women always had to fight harder for their place in the industry with men having their pilot training free of charge but the women having to pay and also undertake more flying hours than their male counterparts in order to qualify.
In 1908 Gertrude Bacon, a journalist whose father was a clergyman, was the first woman to fly in a hot air balloon and was also the first to fly as a passenger in an aircraft, a very cold experience often undertaken wearing a fur coat, but without a seat belt.
The first woman to get a pilot’s license was Mrs D Stoke, so determined was she to raise money for flying that she organized the raffle of her labrador puppies. Pauline Gower raised money by offering joy rides to tourists from Searles in Hunstanton. She eventually became commandant of the women’s air force and would ferry aeroplane parts from factories to the airfields.
Pauline Gower, learned to fly in Reading and then went to Stag Lane in London to learn engineering. She was given an aeroplane for her 21st birthday and used to run a taxi service flying people around the country. It was quite difficult to navigate particularly if there was a lot of low cloud, Pauline overcame this problem by simply landing and asking people where she was and sometimes finding she was actually in the wrong country having flown in a circle.
And so the tales went on, too many to mention here but we look forward to hearing more when we invite Pen back again.
If you would be interested in joining our dual membership club you can be assured of a warm welcome. We meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 10am in the Jubilee Room at North Walsham Community Centre. For more information please contact Albie or Ann Herd on 01692 402705
Qualifications A to T: North Norfolk’s local businesses invited to learn The first T Level courses will begin in September more about Apprenticeships and T Levels 2020, and are available in the following fields:
North Norfolk District Council will hold a free T Level seminar ahead of the introduction of the new technical qualifications.
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) is organising a free information event specifically for local businesses to introduce them to the new T Level technical qualification. There will also be information about the latest developments in apprenticeships, including funding.
The event is intended to help local businesses learn how they can benefit from industry placements and the range of support available to help recruit, train and upskill their workforce. It will host key speakers from local training providers, including Laura McLean, the T Level Coordinator at Norwich City
College and Alison Ward, the newly appointed New Anglia LEP Apprenticeship Levy Coordinator. There will be time for networking with local training providers including UTCN, the College of West Anglia, Nova Training and Poultec, with the opportunity to meet an advisor from the New Anglia Growth Hub to learn about funding to develop business.
T Levels are a new qualification designed to progress from GCSEs and will be equivalent to 3 A levels. The two-year courses have been developed with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work. Students will be involved in a mixture of classroom learning and over 300 hours of ‘on-the-job’ experience in order to acquire the skills necessary for them to enter their chosen field of industry.
Coming soon to the
Cllr. Richard Kershaw, Portfolio holder for Economic Development and Employment said “The new T level qualification is designed to provide technical educational training relevant to the needs of business and industry. I believe this gives students a very sound platform to approach the world of work and will benefit businesses and students alike. I urge businesses to attend to find out more.”
The ‘Qualifications A to T’ workshop is on 1 April between 4pm and 6pm. You can register or ask for more information by contacting economic.growth@north-norfolk.gov.uk

Meat Free Magic
There’s nothing like home cooking, and when you eat that way habitually, it’s very hard to then eat highly processed food. There’s a myth that cooking from scratch means hours in the kitchen, shopping every day for fresh food, and surely, we are all far too busy to do that? But it is a myth‌getting a good stock of easy recipes under your belt is what you should aim for, to enable you to be able to whip up nutritious, wholesome dishes without too much time or prep. This one is great, as it uses ingredients that you’re either likely to have around anyway, like onions, garlic, celery and leeks, plus good store cupboard staples such as stock cubes, tinned lentils, tomato puree and marmite. Mushrooms are highly nutritious and very cheap. And don’t underestimate good old Bisto gravy granules (there are some processed foods that are worth having on the shelf) ‌ there’s a reason they’ve been around as long as they have! I use the Favourite flavour in the red round container, as they are vegetarian friendly and have the nicest taste, easily adding a wonderful layer of flavour to many dishes. Miso is another product that I never allow myself to run out of‌it’s a fermented food that is great for your gut health, and an absolute hero of flavour, imparting a wonderful umami depth to stews, casseroles and soups. It is easily obtainable in all good health food shops. All in all, this is a definite winner of a recipe – high veg and protein, low cost and easy to make. Make ahead of time and pop in the oven when you get home from work for a delicious, ‘meaty’ and nutritious home cooked end to your day.
Scrumptious Shepherd’s Pie‌ Veggie Style
1 large white onion, chopped 1 large leek, chopped finely 2 fat cloves garlic, chopped finely 3 stalks celery, finely diced Olive oil 1 punnet chestnut mushrooms, whizzed up to crumbs in a food processor (or very finely chopped) 4 large flat mushrooms, cut into small chunks Vegetable stock cube Tblsp tomato puree 2 tsp dried thyme 1 rounded tsp miso paste, mixed with a little hot water 1 tsp marmite 1 tin brown or green lentils, drained Bisto gravy granules or cornflour White potatoes for mashing
Put your potatoes on to boil in a large pan of salted water. Very gently fry the onion, leek, garlic and celery in a good slug of olive oil, taking care not to let it burn. Add in the mushrooms, and stir
well, allowing the mushrooms to release their juices and then pop in the lentils. Add the thyme, marmite, tomato puree and stock cube, and add enough hot water to just cover the contents, stirring well. Allow to simmer for a few minutes, and then stir in your miso paste. Thicken with a little Bisto gravy granules or a little corn flour, until you have a good thick gravy. Turn into a deep oven proof dish. When potatoes are soft, drain well and mash with a good dollop of butter, salt and pepper and a little milk. Spoon the mash onto the top of the lentil mixture, taking care to
cover it completely and seal the edges. Rough up the top with a fork and add a little more seasoning. Place in a preheated oven on 180° for approximately 30 – 40 minutes, until the top is golden, and the dish is piping hot all the way through. Serve with a generous portion of Carolyn Burn green vegetables.

Please come and join Cantamus Community Choir for this extremely popular, and free, Come & Sing event at Thorpe Market Church.
The church first began hosting this event in 1998 with a ‘scratch’ choir led by Ro Curtis. This year we are delighted to welcome the prolific composer Michael Finnissy as our musical director, who has only recently premiered his unique musical stage work across North Norfolk, to great acclaim, as part of CoMA - The Festival of Contemporary Music for All. The organ will be played by Geoffrey Hunter.

Contesting a Will
by Gerald Bloye, Chartered Legal Executive, Hayes + Storr
A family member, close friend, or loved one passes away and you find what you believe to be a clear error with their last Will in that it does not reflect the true intentions of the person making the Will.
what can you do about it? The starting point is that the law respects the wishes of the person who has died (“the testator”), even if the last Will did not accord with what family and friends were expecting. However if you suspect that the deceased’s real wishes have not been followed, or that the Will has not been made correctly, the Will may be invalid and you could mount a legal challenge.
the grounds for contesting a will include:
• Lack of testamentary capacity: this means that the testator making the Will was not of sound mind when the Will was created and signed. The testator must understand the full content of their estate and understand who they are choosing to include and exclude.
• Forgery and fraud: a Will may be contested if there are valid grounds to suggest that it has been forged in some way.
• Undue influence or coercion: there may be a claim if the evidence suggests that the testator had been coerced by other persons into including in their Will provisions that they
would not otherwise have included.
• Failure to duly execute the Will: the rules for executing a Will are strict. The testator must sign their Will in the presence of at least two witnesses who are present at the time of signing. The witnesses must confirm that they have seen the Will signed by the testator. If there is evidence to suggest otherwise then the Will may be rendered invalid due to lack of due execution.
• The Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975: a claim can be made by a person such as a spouse, partner or child for whom adequate provision should have been made in the Will and was not.
Contesting a Will can be a complex process and expensive in terms of legal costs. It is important that you act as quickly as possible when deciding to contest a Will as stringent time limits may apply. In some cases, your solicitor may advise you to lodge a “caveat” which means that an official Grant of Probate cannot be issued and the estate, therefore, will not be
distributed without your notification.
If you have reason to believe a Will is invalid and would like to obtain legal advice please contact Hayes + Storr on 01553 778900 or email law@hayes-storr.com.

Work Starts on Electric Charge points in public car parks Project aims to make Electric Vehicles accessible
North Norfolk District Council has commenced the installation of Electric Vehicle Charge Points (EVCPs) in six public car parks across the District following the confirmation of grant funding from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). The £200,000 project will be funded jointly by the Council and OLEV and will futureproof car parks in local towns as electric vehicle numbers rise.

Opera Screening
Tuesday March 17th
This live screening of Beethoven’s only opera is a masterpiece, an uplifting story of risk and triumph In this new production, conducted by Antonio Pappano. Featuring Jonas Kaufmann & Lise Davidsen.
An Evening with John Tams and Barry Coope Saturday March 21st
John Tams has been described by Mojo as ‘one of the ultimate British songwriters’. Barry Coope has a long history in the folk music scene. Barry is a great keyboard player, and master of harmonious singing.
OLEV is a Cross-Government team which aims to promote the use of electric vehicles. The grant funding helps councils to provide the infrastructure necessary to facilitate their introduction.
NNDC proposes to install EVCPs in Council owned car parks in Sheringham, Cromer, Holt, Fakenham, Wells and North Walsham. The EVCs use ‘GeniePoint’, a web-based system for managing vehicle charging; the website allows customers to top up credit and sends a text message when charging is complete.
The project aims to help meet the expected rise in demand for electric vehicles from around 250,000 currently to 6 million on the road by 2030. It has been identified that most Electric Vehicle users will charge their vehicles at home. By installing these facilities in areas where many nearby properties do not have their own off-street parking, the Council aims to provide charging points and make Electric Vehicles more accessible to both residents and visitors. Cllr Sarah Bütikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said “We are delighted to bring forward this new initiative which will see 34 Electric Vehicle Charge points introduced to our car parks across the District. This is just the first step on the Council’s path towards delivering our new ‘greener’ agenda. Whilst we are working to reduce our own Carbon footprints we want to help residents and visitors to play their part too.”

The February meeting of the North Walsham & District Horticultural Society (Gardener’s Club) took place as usual on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the Jubilee Room of the North Walsham Community Centre. After preliminary announcements by the Chairman, Mary Marjoram, 31 members were entertained with an illustrated talk by Kathy Gray from Mileham entitled ‘The Plant Hunters’.
Kathy outlined the expeditions of four of the greatest plant hunters that set out on missions of plant discovery. She started by giving a description of Joseph Banks, known as the father of plant hunters and his voyage with Captain Cook to New Zealand and Botany Bay in Australia in the 1760s. This was followed by the exploits of Francis Masson (1741-1805) and his discoveries in South Africa.

If they do decide this is not the cat for them, she asks them to please let her know as we often have other people waiting to view the cat and it could lose the opportunity of a new home if they do not do this. Similarly, when we have a space for a cat to come in and she calls to advise that we can now take their cat, could they please let her know if it has already been re-homed. Again, there will be other people on our waiting list who desperately need to get their cat into care. Politeness and good manners cost nothing.
Before our branch was set up both Stephanie and I volunteered for the Dereham Branch, initially at the home of Mrs Howard in Gressenhall, and then at the Adoption Centre in Longham. Mrs Howard was quite a character and many older people who have had cats from us over the years still remember her. One very good piece of advice she gave us was to never take in more cats than you can afford to look after properly and always have enough funds to pay for the unexpected bills that can occur. When our branch was set up, we were given a small amount of money, plus three cat pens, and were advised to start fund raising before the pens and cats arrived. The bases for the pens and cost of installing electricity had to be paid for by us so this was very sound advice and, having listened to Mrs Howard, we started fund raising straight away and have always had sufficient money to ensure the cats have all they need while in our care, We have continued to do so as the branch has grown and we have never had to worry where the money for the cat food and next veterinary bill would be coming from. We have also, as a result of money being left to the branch, been able to help cat owners on low income and people looking after feral colonies with neutering costs. By following Mrs Howard’s advice we know that our cats will always receive the very best care while with us.
Sharon has asked me to thank everyone who has donated goods for her to sell at High Hedges. Although she will be selling the goods already donated, she has advised that once these have been sold sales at her home will cease. She also asks that no more goods are brought to her to sell. She thanks everyone who has Izzy, timid young girl needs a new home purchased goods from without young children or dogs. She is happy her over the years, living with other cats. with 2019 being a particularly profitable year. However, she was disheartened when goods were taken without payment, especially as the money was being raised for the cats.
If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.
If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered. Stress free cats (and vets!)
Any one who has ever owned a cat will recognise how particular they can be with their likes and dislikes and the challenges this
often poses in caring for them.
Here at Toll Barn Vets we have always known how important specialised care is to all our patients including even the most mischievous of cats! We are extremely proud to have been awarded Gold Standard Feline Friendly Practice status for the 4th consecutive year by the International Society for Feline Medicine, a leading authority on feline care. We are delighted to be one of only 4 practices within the entire of Norfolk to achieve this award.
How does this help reduce stress for your cat? Being recognised as a Gold Standard Feline Friendly practice means we have been inspected and have demonstrated our high standard of care for cats. This includes having a separate waiting area complete with calming pheromone diffusers for worried cats with special areas to raise and cover cat baskets to help minimise stress. The hospital ward is a “cat only” area to prevent any stress caused by being able to see dogs and also has pheromone diffusers and large insulated kennels complete with hiding holes and varieties of food to keep cats comfortable during their stay. Our equipment and facilities for investigating disease and performing surgical procedures including techniques such as blood pressure monitoring, tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure), X-rays including dental x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT scanner and in house laboratory have been rated at the highest level which means we can diagnose and treat cats quickly thus reducing the length of their stay with us.
Advocate and has some top tips for bringing your cat to the vets.
Cats are independent and territorial animals. They dislike change and need to feel in control of their surroundings to feel secure. This can make a trip to the vets extremely stressful for the cat and it Cat Nema is important to make visits as stress free as possible. The first step is to make the carrier a positive experience. Encourage your cat to sleep and eat in or near it. Don’t just use it for vet visits as the carrier then becomes associated with a negative experience. Use bedding that smells of home and cover the carrier with a towel or blanket. Pheromone sprays can also be used to reduce stress. Once at the practice ensure the carrier is still covered and avoid placing it on the floor. Cat friendly practices should have raised stands designed for carriers. If the waiting room is busy or there is no separate cat waiting area it can be helpful to leave your cat in the car until the vet is ready to see you. It is important to give reassurance to your cat and take things slowly, a less stressful visit for your cat will also be a less stressful visit for yourself!
If you would like to book your free of charge healthcheck appointment or find out more about reducing the stress for your cat please give Toll Barn Vets a call on 01692 407126.

I would like to thank the anonymous people who helped me after I fell in the road near Vicarage Street car park on Friday 28 February early evening. The local lady who stayed with me until I was seen by a doctor, the couple from the Isle of Wight for driving me there and the husband and other fellows who got me back up on my feet Thanks you all very much Marian

APPEAL FOR LEGO
Mundesley Library offers a home for unwanted Lego
Mundesley Library has added a Lego Club to the range of activities it offers (meets on Saturday mornings at 10.15am). Although we have a lot of Lego we would love to have more - especially Lego people - to extend the range of models we can make.
Can you help? Do you have any Lego just gathering dust? Do you want to get rid of it?
If the answer is yes, Mundesley Library would love to have it. Please let us know by calling the library on 01263 720702. The Lego can be delivered to the library or we can collect it if necessary.
A guide to minimally invasive facial cosmetic procedures Turn back time and see visible results. The time machine procedures.
Non surgical procedures provide impressive, natural looking results and have a beneficial effect on skin health. However if you’re already at a stage where the effects of ageing, sun-exposure or smoking has taken a toll then your only option may be to go under the knife. We offer gentle minimally invasive surgical procedure.
Laser facelift. This is a procedure to provide a tighter jawline and upper neck. A laser fibre is used to heat the under-layers of the skin and shrink the soft tissue allowing the skin to gently firm and lift up. Laser liposuction is the best option to get rid of double chin and excess fat in areas of chin, cheeks, neck and jowls. Again there is no knife involved and it is a minimally invasive procedure.

blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. A lip lift is a small procedure that provides profound results or indeed a mini facelift carried out under local anaesthesia to remove excess facial and neck skin and tighten the underlying muscle layer to provide long lasting results.
Mini-brow lift. Two incisions on either side of forehead just inside the hair line lift the outer brows. This is an area that often sags with ageing and facial volume loss. A mini brow lift avoids a long scar. Often the hair growth will make the scar barely perceptible.
blepharoplasty. This involves removal of excess upper eyelid skin to allow youthful look to the eyes. We use a precise laser beam to remove the skin minimising bleeding or bruising.
Lip lift. The upper lip lengthens and lips shrink due to loss of volume. If you do lip fillers they often provide an unnatural look. A better solution is to reduce the lip length allowing more of the red lip to show. We often combine this procedure with CO2 laser resurfacing to renew skin around the mouth.
one stitch facelift. It is a brief procedure. One small incision on either side of the face is used. The incision is hidden in the hair and lifts the jaw line.
neck lift. Here a tiny incision is made in the chin crease and underlying neck muscles are tightened. This can also be combined with neck liposuction or mini-facelift surgery.
Fat transfer. Also known as 3D facelift is gentle fat removal from body. The fat cells are then injected into the face. It provides a natural looking facelift and improves skin quality.
ear lobe surgery. This is carried out to repair torn or stretched earlobes and also to reduce enlarged or elongated earlobes to provide natural contours.
Of course we also offer minor surgical procedures such as removal of moles, cysts, lipomas etc. Call us on 01603 736487 or log on the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk

The Gallant Gardener
At this time of the year, rhubarb is beginning to come into season, whether it is from the forcing houses of the growing triangle in Yorkshire or your garden. This vegetable has become much more popular and is very versatile. It originates from China and was named as it grew on the banks of the Volga River in Russia.
Let us help yyou… ou…
Stomach, liver and lung disorders, venereal disease and snake bites have all been treated with rhubarb, whose earliest recorded use, as powdered roots, date back to 2,700 BC. Despite its purgative, detoxifying qualities, rhubarb hasn’t always been eaten with such relish as it is today.
Rhubarb seeds first arrived in Europe in the 16th Century, when it had medicinal, rather than culinary value, a situation that lasted until the 18th Century, when its use as drug declined.
Eating the stalks probably arose as a way of utilizing rhubarb’s curative properties. Rhubarb from the garden in general, should not be eaten from July as the oxalic acid comes down into the stalks.
Surprisingly low in calories but high in calcium, potassium and healthy promoting fibre, rhubarb has recently been found to lower blood cholesterol. Rhubarb can be grown in containers or the garden and apart from a top dressing of good manure or general fertilizer it needs very little attention. After about five years it will need digging up, splitting and putting in a fresh position where it will get warmth and rain.
Here’s a recipe we have used for many years and can be eaten both hot and cold:
rhubarb and orange Meringue
3/4lb trimmed rhubarb, 4 individual sponge cakes, 2 oz castor sugar, 2 tablespoons water, 1 large orange rind and juice, small pinch of cinnamon. Meringue topping2 egg whites, 4oz castor sugar.
SOLD SOLD
Slice the sponge cakes through the middle and cut the rhubarb into thin slices. Into a 2 pint ovenproof pie dish put a layer of sponge cake, half the rhubarb, sprinkle with half the sugar, cinnamon and rind and juice of the orange. Continue with another layer in the same way and finally add the water. Cover and cook at approx. 190C or gas mark 5 for 35 to 45 minutes until the rhubarb is tender. Whip egg whites stiffly, gradually add the sugar and fold in. Pile on top and bake a further 10-12 mins at the same temperature

North Walsham Table Tennis League Big Win for Alpha is closer than score suggests
In the Premier Division, Backhander's Teucer Wilson, Whil De Neve and Paul Warner hosted North Walsham Alpha's Robin Thaxter, Howard Lupton and Richard Westgate. Steady and slow top-spin won the day in straight for Warner against Lupton, however this was the only point the hosts picked up. The final score of 9-1 to Alpha as ever did not reflect the closeness of the match – Westgate was taken the distance by both De Neve and Warner (winning the latter contest 17-15, 5-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-9) while Lupton edged Wilson 15-13 in the fourth and ground out a win from two down against De Neve. Shark's Steve Patterson and Steve and Matt Hudson hosted North Walsham Cobra's Mark Blackburn and Robert and Marceli Gabriel. Robert Gabriel took a maximum dropping just one set against Patterson and Blackburn won a crucial third 13-11 as he beat Steve Hudson from two down, however Shark's won all the remaining battles to take a 6-4 win. Matt Hudson beat Marceli
Gabriel from two down before defeating Blackburn 11-7, 11-13, 16-14, 10-12, 11-4. Tom Wardle and Irving Watson both played up joining Ben Lester as North Walsham Beta visited Aylsham Enterprise's Danny Atkins, Andrew Latham and Kit Marsden. The hosts won 9-1 with Watson taking the point for Beta with a 12-10, 14-12, 7-11, 11-7 win against Latham. Watson also took Atkins the distance and again in the doubles as Atkins and Marsden beat Lester and Watson in five.
In the Second Division, North Walsham Delta were down to a two person team as Tony Bispham and Gudi Scham hosted Seaflames Swordfish's Chris Hollins, Graham Masters and Graham Moorhouse. Scham found some great angles to win a very tactical game against Moorhouse in five as she took a maximum. Masters recovered from two down to beat Bispham and joined Hollins for a 16-14 in the fourth doubles win that completed a 7-3 win
Celebrations were the order of the day at Scottow on 29 February wuth the Vikings clinching promotion with four games left.
Monday 16 March - 10.30am – Mundesley Paston Walk - Grade 3- Approx. 3½Miles. A walk with medium inclines with good views of the coast on tracks, coastal path, minor roads and across a field. Meet at the Royal Hotel CP, 30 Paston Road, Mundesley NR11 8BN. Tuesday 17 March - 10.45am - North Walsham Lyngate Rd Walk - Grade 2 - Approx. 2.5 miles.
The second round of the Handicap Doubles Cup turned into something of a farce with seven teams conceding and hence only one of the eight ties played! The match that was played saw Aylsham Norada beat North Walsham Delta 8-1.
“Promotion is a major achievement, something we have been building towards over many years, but it will not be easy, there is a history of sides getting relegated soon after promotion,” commented Chair Keith Jarvis.
It was a convincing 33 -3 victory, including five tries, two from Will Hodgson (pictured). Earlier in the month the Vikings had beaten second placed Colchester 34-3 at home and Sudbury 29 -22 away. The Harpenden match concluded a hard run of fixtures: six of their last seven were against teams hoping to finish second, so giving them the opportunity of promotion via a playoff match versus the second placed team in London One South. If you are new to Fit Together, please arrive 20 mins early. For more information contact Eileen Harriott on 07851 774396.
In the First Division, North Walsham Foxtrot's Tom Wardle, Joe English and the returning Jack Morton hosted a two man LCC Lobsters team. Chris Marshall won the opener against Wardle and followed that with a win in four against English but was beaten in four by Morton. Tim Dawson beat English in three and Morton in four but was defeated by Wardle in straight. The three walkovers made the doubles become vital and saw a 11-0 win in the fifth for Morton and Wardle as Foxtrots won the match 6-4.
Next season they will be playing in London & South East Premier, a fifth tier League where they last played ten years ago.
With 20 points still available, they have an unassailable 24 point lead. It was fitting they became League Champions by beating Harpenden, the only team to have defeated them in this memorable season.

“We are working hard to make a success of it, building our on and off field capacity. Our running costs will rise and we will be competing against Clubs with way more resources than ourselves. Unlike most we won’t be paying our players, but are considering how we can improve facilities for them. We need to make some capital expenditure too on the floodlights and car park.”
