Six Years On
The Norfolk Cleaning Group was started as Norfolk Cleaning Ltd by husband and wife team Peter and Diane Murther. They felt it would be the ideal company to operate after they were unable to find a professional cleaning company that would look after their home and office in North Walsham.
Six years on, and with various accreditations and quality assurance systems, including the Norfolk County Councils Trusted Trader Scheme, the Norfolk Cleaning Group has grown phenomenally. They now employ over 50 members of staff, run a fleet of vehicles that can barely fit in their car park and manage over 150 holiday homes. Add to this the numerous local business’ and private homes they look after, growth
Sheringham Town Council News
Safer Neighbourhood Team and Norfolk County Council have for some time now being trying to resolve issues in relation to parking at the Primary School and the ensuing safety issues. Sheringham Town Council have been approached about the installation of wooden bollards along Cooper Road. The installation of bollards placed at regular intervals would present a physical obstruction which will prevent vehicles driving along the verge and consequently making the pavement safer for pedestrians. Sheringham Town Council have been asked to fund the installation of the bollards and have received two quotations from County Council, one for softwood treated timber posts and the other for hardwood treated timber posts. At the Town Council meeting held on 6th August the Council agreed to fund the project and pay for the hardwood posts, at a cost of £2,839.37. The Town Clerk approached County Council about contributing to the cost and after negotiations took place County Council agreed to pay £500 towards the cost. Hopefully the works will commence some time in September 2013.
Runton Parish History Society
The rural area around Cromer in North Norfolk, may not, in most peoples’ minds, be thought of as home to railway junctions, but that was the case in the late 19th and early 20th century, when many miles of track were laid. In the immediate area around Cromer, there were as many as seven signal boxes, controlling the junctions and the two stations at Cromer. Through trains would be arriving from and departing to London, the Midlands and the North. In fact Cromer had expresses complete with restaurant cars running between the North Norfolk resort and London. Scores of trains would be transporting holidaymakers to the area during the summer months. Those days have gone now, but Cromer and Sheringham still have an hourly service to Norwich, which is very well used. On Saturday 21 September at 7.15pm Runton Parish History Society have arranged for well known local author and historian Nigel Digby to come to East Runton Village Hall to give an illustrated talk about those early days of rail travel. Admission is £3 including light refreshments. The Society is asking if any residents or visitors with memories of those days could write them down to add to the Society’s archive.

was rapid and Norfolk Cleaning soon developed into a further two companies; Norfolk Holiday Home Management & Norfolk Laundry Services. This created the large cleaning group that they hold today.
All the staff have a ‘can do’ ethos and react swiftly to customers needs. They feel that whatever someone asks, there’s always a way.
Just over a year ago, they had to move to larger premises, more than doubling the size to accommodate the professional laundry equipment needed for the laundry, along with extended offices for the administration needed to run such an expanding business.
All of this success has been a team effort and they would like to thank the management team, staff and customers for their repeat business and personal recommendations as they wouldn’t have been able to do it without them all!
Who knows where they we will be in another six years time…

A Fresh Approach to Law ..... and a Fresh Colour Scheme at Silver & Ward Ltd The latest landmark on the Cromer Road has to be the new facade that has given a facelift to the building that houses solicitors Silver & Ward next to Sheringham Playpark.
“I just love the new colour scheme,” commented Clare Mayell. “It’s bright and really stands out, as well as complementing our corporate colours. We want to not only stand out and be noticed, but also be seen as a local business that people can rely upon.”
Silver and Ward have 'A fresh approach to law!' - "We make it our priority to remove the stress and worry for clients’ in going to see a solicitor and the misconception that solicitors are expensive and make a legal issue bigger than it needs to be. We aim to resolve your legal issue in the most simplest and cost effective way possible."
Silver & Ward specialise in making sure that every client has the opporrttunity to explain their legal needs in a personal, friendly and professional environment that is not intimidating.
"It is vital to keep costs competitive for our clients’, particularly in a tough economic climate and with Legal Aid effectively disappearing from the 1st April", commented Clare Mayell, “We have over 20 years’ experience and can offer the same legal experrttise you would expect from a big city firm or a larger local firm, but at very competitive rates.
Our office may be smaller than other firms but the legal expertise is the same. We are delighted to say that because of our approach our reputation is far reaching and we now act for clients’ who are not just based in Norfolk but live further afield, including London, Leicester and South Shields - location is not an issue."
We want our clients to be able to make an informed decision as to how to proceed in what can be a difficult time for them." They also offer free parking and disabled access/parking and can offer home visits, even if you are not in Sheringham.
If you would like to make your free first appointment, whatever your legal issue is, either at their office or at your home then please telephone 01263 823465 or email Clare at clare@silverandward.co.uk. www.silverandward.co.uk 15A Cromer Road, Sheringham, NR26 8AB

Slow roast belly of pork with scallops and roe
The first recipe from new Grove head chef Dave ‘Charlie’ Hodson has been on the à la carte menu now for a few weeks and is already established as an all-time classic. ‘It’s wonderful to be creating something very special at the Grove and I’m very excited to be taking over the monthly Cromer Times recipe slot. This is one of my signature dishes, pan-seared scallops with Norfolk belly pork and roe, and the perfect accompaniment is a little dash of chilli dressing. We use our own vegetables here in the gardens, so when Ann brought down some nice red chillies that her and John had grown in the greenhouse my eyes lit up. They lit up even more when I bit into one, as it was probably the fieriest, spiciest chilli I’ve ever eaten. Hot stuff here at the Grove! and a very, very warm welcome for me. ‘I do hope you enjoy my slow roasted belly of Norfolk pork with scallops and roe and I look forward to seeing you at the Grove very soon.’ My butcher, Icarus Hines in Cromer, will happily advise on the size of pork required, dependant on how many eating, and will also take the skin off and the bone out (pan ready, as we say!)
Prepare a bed of roughly chopped red apples, white onions and shallots, with a liberal sprinkling of Maldon sea salt - the best salt on the market - ground medium black pepper, and lashings of maple syrup. Wrap the meat in parchment and foil, place on the bed and very slowly cook in the oven
on a low heat on the middle shelf for at least six hours. (You can try cooking on a bed of straw in exactly the same manner, which gives a truly scrumptious flavour with an earthy aroma and a naughty tingly taste on the tip of the tounge.) When the meat is cooked, pan-fry your two scallops in sesame oil with a tinkle of seasoning. Please, please try to buy fresh scallops, as there is very little price difference but a huge advantage in flavour..! Sear them on each side for approximately one-two minutes and then let them rest for a couple of minutes more. While it’s piping hot slice a good chunk of your pork belly onto a nice warm plate. Place your scallops as you like on the pork, and to perfectly execute dress with a small amount of crème fraiche, black fish roe, fresh coriander and fresh chilli dressing - just be careful if you’re using Ann’s chillies! Finally my little luxury, if
you fancy it, is a very simple ragout of white beans.

Sheringham Society Coffee Morning
There was no coffee morning in August as all the committee were busy with the Art Show taking place in the Masonic Centre. However, in July we had an interesting talk by Claire Bradshaw from Norfolk Archaeological Department who told us about the many Iron Age and Anglo-Saxon remains in the area. Most of us did not realise that we had Iron Age barrows around Sheringham. Our next talk will be by Stephen Cooper who will be talking about managing woods for wood fuel. As he himself said this sounds very dull, but it is in fact, extremely interesting. I hope as many of you as possible will come and support Stephen, who is the son of Maureen Cooper who arranges all our talks. His talk will take place at St. Joseph's Church Hall in Cromer Road on Thursday 26 September at 10.15am for 10.30. As you were warned previously, we have had to increase our entry fee to £3 to cover rising costs, but this does include tea or coffee and homemade cakes. There is plenty of parking at the church and we look forward to seeing you there on the 26 September.

Patients and staff from Cromer Hospital’s renal dialysis unit ‘floated’ into Cromer Carnival parade last month in a squadron of cardboard Red Arrow jets, created by dialysis patient Paul Welsh, 51, of Honeysuckle Close, North Walsham.
Paul is a motor vehicle engineer and delivers The North Walsham Times every fortnight with his wife and family. He has been a renal dialysis patient for 17 years, attending Cromer Renal Unit three times a week and has previously had two kidney transplants. He also fundraises and raises awareness about kidney disease/failure and organ donation.

Paul’s creation was a Class Winning Float and attracted much interest from carnival goers, including local MP Norman Lamb. Over 3 million people in the UK are at risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and 51,000 people in the UK are being treated for kidney failure. Every year around 6,600 people start renal replacement therapy. 90% of people, approximately 6,000, on the transplant list are waiting for a kidney. Less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year. On average a kidney transplant lasts for 10 to 15 years.

Local MP Norman Lamb Attends Cromer Carnival
This year’s eagerly-anticipated Cromer Carnival took place between 17th and 23rd August. As always, the Carnival offered a wide range of events and opportunities from circus workshops, magic shows and live music to raffles, competitions and quizzes.
During his visit to the Carnival, local MP Norman Lamb took the opportunity to visit the
stands of key health charities Kidney Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. The Macmillan Big Green Bus, which paid a visit to the carnival this year, offers mobile cancer information services and is a particularly valuable resource for those living in a rural area such as North Norfolk.
In between hearing about the valuable work carried out by these charities, Mr Lamb also had time to enjoy the light-hearted elements of the carnival and even posed in the Kidney Research UK ‘red arrows cockpit’.

place are a credit to the fantastic communityspirit of Cromer Town. I was particularly grateful to have the chance to visit both the Kidney Research UK stand and the Macmillan Big Green Bus during my visit to the Carnival. The vital work carried out by these charities both locally and nationally helps to improve the lives of millions. I would like to voice my whole-hearted support of all that they do.”
Commenting, Mr Lamb said “I am always so impressed by the variety and quality of the events of Cromer Carnival and greatly enjoyed my visit this year. The dedicated team of volunteers and organisers that enable this event take

IMPROVEMENT OF WORK/LIFE BALANCE FOR FAMILIES By Miranda Marshall, Partner at Hayes + Storr
On the 25 February 2013, MPs passed the second reading of the new Children and amilies Bill in the House of Commons. This proposes the extension of the statutory rights, both in employment and family law, that both parents have in their children’s upbringing. It is not yet law.
employees from 2015, rather than just parents and carers, as at present.
In the event of family breakdown there will be legal recognition that it is in the child’s interest for both parents to remain involved in the child’s life (except in cases where there is a risk of harm).
The old concepts of “residence” and “contact” are to be replaced with a single Child Arrangement Order. This can set out where the children live and how much The Bill also proposes extending the time they spend with the other parent. right to request flexible working to all It will remove the old labels of “contact” or Shared Residence Order. Adult Community Support The changes should provides unique opportunities not affect the Family and Support for adults Court’s approach that with learning disabilities. the child should Maternity leave is to be used by the father instead of, or as well as, the other, -shared in blocks or taken together.
Do you have a family member, friend or someone you know that has a learning disability and they have nowhere to go during the day? Well look no further! Here at ACS we offer a diverse service for the local community, supporting groups of up to 10 adults week days. One-to-one support is also available. sustain a relationship with both parents, even though the child may spend less time with one parent. The new terminology is couched in terms of “involvement” so as to encourage shared parenting.
Employers will need to be careful not to discriminate against fathers when considering flexible working requests, particularly in the light of the government’s wish to encourage shared parenting from the earliest days.
These are viewed as positive developments which should help to change society’s perception of traditional gender roles and to reduce disrimination. What were previously “maternal” issues will now become “parental” ones. The aim is to enable and encourage parents to juggle work and children and to maintain a better work/life balance.

Region's Ambulance Chief Grilled over Plans to Bring Improvements to North Norfolk A leading ambulance campaigner from north Norfolk has met the interim Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service Trust to grill him on his plans for the future of our ambulance service.
about ambulance performance and will continue to campaign for a better service in North Norfolk.
The meeting took place at Potter Heigham station. Speaking after her meeting Denise Burke said “We had a productive and frank meeting. Andrew Morgan acknowledged that the ambulance service in North Norfolk is not acceptable and needs substantial improvements. The trust is still developing its plans for board approval. Andrew recognises there are no quick fixes and that this is a long term turnaround. Their plans need to have clear targets and timelines which Andrew agreed he will take on board. We will monitor progress closely to ensure that North Norfolk’s residents and visitors get the ambulance service they need. I was heartened that Andrew recognises the job that needs to be done in North Norfolk.”

The August meeting between Denise Burke, Labour's parliamentary candidate, and Andrew Morgan was the latest stage of the Act on Ambulances campaign launched in 2012 by North Norfolk Labour Party in response to local residents’ concerns about poor response times and slow turnaround at the Norfolk & Norwich hospital. Gardeners are always horrified to see toadstools springing up in their lawns or flower beds or around the base of a fence or tool shed. But as distressing as they might be it is worth remembering that the fungi are only doing their job by breaking down dead material and returning the goodness to the soil. They are therefore the gardener’s friends with a few exceptions such as honey fungus and fairy rings. The former is a killer and threads through the soil between diseased and healthy plants via tough, leathery, bootlace-like rhizamorphs. Fairy rings attack grass roots and produce brown toadstools. The problem is to identify which fungi are bad for the garden.
At their next meeting on Thursday, 19 September members of the Society will have a talk by fungi expert Dr Tony Leech, who is also chairman of the North Norfolk Group of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. His talk is entitled ‘Fungi – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. Everyone is welcome and you can bring along any fungi from your garden for identification.
The meeting will be held in St. Joseph’s Parish Centre starting at 7.30pm and is free for members (£2 for visitors). Please contact me for further details on 01263 825364.
Also congratulations to our Chairman, Paddy Corden, who won a Silver-Gilt medal at the Royal Sandringham Show for his garden to celebrate the centenary of Benjamin Britten. Bob Wilkinson Sheringham Independent 375 September 7th 2013

SPITFIRE PATROLS TURN BACK THE CLOCK AT NORFOLK’S BIGGEST RE-ENACTMENT EVENT
One of the highlights of this year’s Poppy Line ‘40s Weekend will be patrols over the railway by a low-flying Spitfire fighter dating from the second world war. The privately-owned plane, flown by pilot Clive Denny, is scheduled to take to the air on both afternoons of the event (Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22), at around 3.00pm – though timing, and indeed flying, will depend on weather conditions. Over recent years, businesses in Sheringham have played an increasing part in the event’s success; last year, for example, the frontage of the Lobster pub sported the pock marks of machine gun shelling. This year the contribution of the town is being recognised by a street parade on the Saturday evening, involving the re-enactment groups, period vehicles and local businesses. And late on Sunday afternoon, before the closing ceremony, there’ll be a “people’s parade” at Sheringham Station, open to passengers and visitors, with those in period dress or uniform particularly welcome. Once again, re-enactment groups from all over the UK will parade their special talents. There’ll be dispatch riders on their bikes, Tommies and GI Joes, air force and navy personnel, and plenty of civilians in the nos-
KELLING PROBUS CLUB
Twenty-two members met at The Dales Hotel, Upper Sheringham on Thursday 15 August when our guest speaker was Erica Murray, Broads Authority Ecologist. Her subject was “Conservation Management” which she introduced by describing the special features which make the Broads such an important example of our natural environment. Within the Broads nature conservation area, there are 28 individual Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and unlike most of the Cambridgeshire fens, the Broads fens are species rich - some 66 rare species have been identified and include the swallowtail butterfly, the bittern and the fen orchid. Management techniques on the fens include cutting and mowing for conservation and traditional reed and sedge cutting for thatch.
talgic dress of the ‘40s. Look out for the splendid hats, high heels and red lipsticks of the ladies, and the pinstripes and trilbies of the chaps. And watch out, too, for the shifty looking spivs flogging black market nylons from battered cases: the name spiv was coined because it’s VIPs backwards. The popularity of the event means that the steam trains will be very full – a totally realistic touch, as wartime trains were generally packed as tightly as sardines in a can. There’ll be an intensive service of steam trains all day, and it is hoped that the railway’s unique 4-coach wooden-bodied train, now 89 years old, will be running on both days. The event beautifully recaptures the atmosphere of the early days of the second world war. The news may have been grim, but the Home Front kept going with lots of dry humour and goodwill – British reserve disappeared, and people were quickly on good terms with each other. Songs, music and dancing kept the spirits up – and even the grumbles of rationing and deprivation (Spam fritters, anybody?) met with good-humoured shrugs. The two days of the ‘40s Weekend show just how we coped at one of the most difficult times in our island’s history.

Scrub clearance and pony grazing are also regularly carried out to prevent the fen habitat changing into woodland. The lake and broads management include the removal of mud sediments and the technique of “biomanipulation” where one species (eg fish) is temporarily removed to allow another species (eg water fleas) to survive and control algal growth. But management also has to cope with unwanted invasive species such as killer shrimps and American mink. New Broads Authority work includes the Broads barn owl project, with funding support for the British Trust for Ornithology cuckoo project and the release of the fen raft spider, led by Natural England. In conclusion, Erica dealt clearly with the many questions asked by members, and invited us to visit the How Hill

CCTV provision in North Norfolk
A council working party has announced three options for the provision of CCTV coverage in the area, with a final decision to be reached in October.
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) currently operates 46 CCTV cameras in Cromer, Fakenham, North Walsham, Sheringham and Wells-next-the-Sea. The service costs the Council just under £200k per annum to run, and, as in all areas of the council’s work, it has been undertaking a review of its CCTV provision in the district to see if any savings can be identified.
NNDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Assets Rhodri Oliver said “The objective of the review was to see what the options could be for the provision of the council’s CCTV operations in the future, alongside identifying potential savings”.
During the course of the review the internal working party, chaired by NNDC Councillor for Lancaster North Ward, Fakenham, Annie Claussen-Reynolds, consulted stakeholders, covering town councils, Chambers of Trade and service users, including the Police. The stakeholders have now been informed of the working party’s conclusion, which is that there are three possible courses of action:
a) outsourcing the service, on a responsive basis only, to The Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk
Textiles with a twist!
b) continuing an in-house, dedicated service, but with reduced operator hours and using wireless technology
Bacon Rolls Tea and Coffee
Cakes! And lots more!
c) dispensing with the service completely.
Charity No. 282860 C ontac t:pre sidentsew i@gmail.com
The findings of the working party will be deliberated by the NNDC Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 11 September. NNDC Cabinet will then discuss a final report at its meeting on 7 October and will decide on the future of the service then.

Getting in touch with the grass roots
The Leader and Chief Executive of North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) have offered to visit Town and Parish Councils in the District to tell them more about what’s going on at the District Council and to answer questions that parishes might have about particular issues in their area. Tom FitzPatrick, Leader of the District Council, and Sheila Oxtoby, Chief Executive, made the offer earlier in the year and the response has been very positive. So far they, and other NNDC Cabinet and Strategic Leadership Team members have visited ten Town and Parish Councils - ten more are planned for September, with dates to be agreed for 30 more between October and March 2014. Tom FitzPatrick said “The meetings we have attended so far have been really useful. We have not only been able to talk with local people about a wide range of subjects, but have also found out what really concerns them right
now, which is hugely important when it comes to making decisions that will affect everyone in North Norfolk. We have also been able to explain how the District Council works and what it does for residents.” Ann Moore, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at NNDC, said “I really support this initiative. The more opportunities people who live in North Norfolk have to tell the District Council how they feel and what they really care about, the better. Of course locally elected Members provide the most important link between residents and the workings of the District Council, but it is also important that the leadership is directly aware of the issues that concern everyone.” District Councillor for Holt Michael Baker (UKIP) said “I am pleased to see the Corporate Leadership Team of North Norfolk District Council out of the office and visiting Parish and Town Councils. For too long there has
been an 'us and them' approach. This is now being put right under the leadership of the current Chief Executive.” Following one of the visits, Chairman of Sea Palling Parish Council Andrew Coles said “The visit to Sea Palling was extremely useful. We were able to tackle a number of local issues and they have already done most of what they said they would do. I’d like to see meetings like these on a regular basis” and Sculthorpe Parish Chairman Tony Walters added “The consensus after the meeting was that it was very agreeable, helpful, professional, educational and enjoyable.”
Town and Parish Councils interested in taking up the offer of a visit should contact NNDC on 01263 516017 or email kirsty.read@north-norfolk.gov.uk
The new Superintendent of the North Norfolk Circuit of the Methodist Church is Rev. David Philo who took up the position on 1 September. Rev. David Philo, his wife Emily and son Josh live in Sheringham. Here is what David says about himself, his family and his ministry...
"It is good to be back in the east of England and although we leave behind the beautiful High Peak and many friends, we arrive to a warm welcome and wonderful Norfolk, one of my favourite counties. It’s also back to the sea which I love. I was born if not on the sea, only a hundred yards from it in the small town of Harwich. Previous generations of my family had all made their living on the sea as sailors and fishermen. So now we can see, hear and smell the sea again and experience those magnificent sunsets of Norfolk. I have been called to Sheringham as the superintendent minister, more important, to be part of a team of Methodist ministers looking after over 20 churches. I have the privilege of looking after the Sheringham Methodist Church and section which includes East and West Runton, Bodham, Weybourne and Gresham. My own ministry had taken me to many paces as diverse as Swanage, London, Isle of Wight, Ulster and Huddersfield to mention a few. Some

of these welcomed me as a Salvation Army Officer and the latter as a Methodist Minister. My family in Sheringham will include my wife, also a former Salvation Army officer, and Joshua my young son who will attend Sheringham High School My other children are now grown up and leading their own lives in Manchester and London. I look forward to serving here and to being part of the church, circuit and community as well as continuing a strong and close relationship with the other minister and churches in the town."

Dear Margaret,
When we go to post our letters, parcels or even open a new account at the Post Office, we should expect to be dealt with by fully trained and dedicated Post Office staff. Yet we are now finding that the government is allowing businesses to operate Post Offices with shop staff who have very little training. No disrespect to the workers, but doing the post is quite different to selling a can of beans.
This downgrading of workers to do more qualified work on the cheap is going on far too often, and devaluing our services. Even when workers take the time to get more qualified they are only rewarded with a few pence more an hour.
Is this the way our postal services will be going with the privatisation of the Royal Mail? It's a bleak vision of the future if so.
Recently MP Norman Lamb, who helped oversee the proposals for selling the company off last year, commented that the Post Office & Royal Mail has benefited from a surge in online shopping. It seems more likely that those millions of pounds in profits has come from the government fattening up the company before its sale through increased prices.
I expect those prices to rise even higher after their privatisation plans go through. David Spencer,

Dear Margaret,
On behalf of North Norfolk Rotary Club may I thank Royal Cromer Golf Club and in particular, Lee, Will and Tim at the professional shop, for assisting us in holding our annual Charity Golf day last month.
We enjoyed superb weather, excellent golf and brilliant fellowship, resulting in making £3404 profit, which will go towards our President John’s charity choice, ‘Holt Youth Project’.
May I thank our two main sponsors - Logwise Ltd and Norfolk Homes - alongside all our fellow hole and prize sponsors, without whom we would not have been so successful. In addition thanks to Angela and Graham for running our raffle which made £605.
Finally, may I thank all our fellow golfers for supporting us again this year.
Pictured are the Norfolk Homes winners with a total of 99 points, P Makepeace, l Morgon, C Lockwood and D Howard.
It would seem appropriate now to also extend an invitation to all your readers inviting you as companies or individuals to join us in our annual Dinner Dance on 7 December at Pinewood Park Leisure at Bodham - we have an excellent Christmas evening planned so please call me on 01263588160 for further information. Kind regards Kevin Abbs

Battle of Britain Sunday Service
The Sheringham and District Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association is holding this important annual service at 3pm on Sunday 15 September in St Peter’s Church, Sheringham.
This service is held each year to give thanks for, and to celebrate the victory in 1940 over the attacking German Air Force. This air superiority was the main reason that the United Kingdom was not invaded during the Second World War. It is good that we continue to give thanks to God for our deliverance and to honour the brave aircrew, many of whom were in their late teens or early twenties.
Everyone is invited to join our members in this important act of worship which will be led by the Branch Chaplain, the Revd Robert Wright, and by the Vicar of Sheringham, the Revd Christian Heycocks. The Branch President, Air Commodore Tom Benson, hopes that many of you will join with us for this special service. This year is the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Association.
Robert Wright, Chaplain, Royal Air Forces Association

Norwich City Football Club choose Big C for their first of the season match day collection
Supporters of Norwich City were asked to give to their local cancer charity when they attended the match on 31 August.
Norwich City took on Southampton that day. Norwich City allows for five match day collections each year and the first one of the season benefitted the local cancer charity Big C.
Jonathan Redding of the Big C said of the collection ‘This was a wonderful opportunity to increase awareness of the charity amongst a large percentage of the local community it supports. It is through this local support that we are able to be here in the first place. This collection helped to raise funds for the Big C centre at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.
We also fund other projects, including cancer research at the UEA, hospital equipment and services around the county. In October we will open a further centre in Kings Lynn. All of the money we raise in Norfolk stays in Norfolk.’
Applications received for the designation of Neighbourhood Areas
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has received two separate applications seeking to designate the parish of Corpusty and Saxthorpe, and the town of Holt as Neighbourhood Areas. An application for a Neighbourhood Area is the first formal procedure towards preparing a local neighbourhood development plan, a neighbourhood development order or a Community Right to Build order – all initiatives introduced as part of the Localism Act 2011.
NNDC is seeking comments as part of a six week-long consultation commencing Friday 23 August and ending Friday 4 October 2013. The applications and maps showing the boundaries of the proposed Neighbourhood Areas are available to view or download at: www.northnorfolk.org/neighbourhoodareas
Any comments should consider in each case whether the proposed Neighbourhood Area is appropriate to be designated for the purposes of neighbourhood planning. Those wishing to comment on either application should send their comments to: planningpolicy@north-norfolk.gov.uk or Planning Policy Team, North Norfolk District Council, Holt Road, Cromer, NR27 9EN.
For further information contact 01263 516318 or visit www.northnorfolk.org/neighbourhoodplans
