IT’S A WONDERFUL TOWN A review by Thornton Humbug
Covering Sheringham, the Runtons, Holt and surrounding villages in association with the Cromer Times and North Walsham Times
As I write this review dear readers, my ribs are aching from laugher, my buttocks are throbbing from sitting for two hours on one of the petite, reassuringly old fashioned chairs at The Sheringham Little Theatre and my fingers are nearly broken from getting tangled in the metal work of my trusty Imperial typewriter* as I try to unblock then. Typing too fast you see so keen I am to capture the sense of fun filled wonder I can barely control my digits. It’s like the 1998 court case all over again. I come hot foot from the LIGHTS UP SHOW and AUCTION.
In ‘It’s a wonderful Life’ Jimmy Stewart’s life and indeed the town itself is saved by a fat angel called Clarence. In this show the Town’s Christmas Lights are saved by a fat toymaster called Paul Starling. Oh hang, on that’s the real bit. Except he isn’t so fat I guess. But the town needed new Lights for Christmas. I am sure dear reader you know how costly it is to decorate a home let alone a whole town for the Season. I for one am saddened to report that due to financial impecunity, the Humbug household rarely goes beyond a novelty shaped parsnip on the Festive table and a sprig or two of ivy garnished here and there. Not so much as a Christmas goose under the mistletoe alas! Continued on page 4...

IT’S A WONDERFUL TOWN A review by Thornton Humbug
Continued from front cover But I digress - Mr Paul Starling of Uriah Heap Towers and the local Toy Shop had a Xmas light bulb moment of his own about this time last year. ‘I know ,’ he cried ‘Let’s put a show on right here!’
The concept was simple. Sheringham’s got oodles of talent let’s put it on stage and draw attention that we need some money to buy some new decorations and light up Sheringham to guide Santa on his way. The carnival committee run so many events through the year in the town, starting with The Viking Festival in the beginning of the year and ending with the big switching on ceremony at Christmas that funds are stretched. And so the Lights Up show was born!
And a year later what a good time was had by all last Saturday night in the Little Theatre. ‘Ho, Ho, Ho!’ reported Mrs Jean Bouquet when asked

in the interval what she thought of the show so far. Lights Up drew on a host of local talent providing music, comedy, poetry, song dance and magic. Hosted by Greg Powles the well known, funny and charismatic radio presenter the evening moved from the sublime to the ridiculous to the poignant. I for one am still in mild shock after seeing both the outfits and the movements the cast performed to Greg Powles tribute to The LumberJack Song. I shall never ever look upon a Yuletide Log again without a small shiver.
The evening sold out and was a great success. The people demanded more but didn’t get it – so the team are promising to come back next year with even more outrageous fun, frolics and foaming at the mouth seaside fun!
The auction followed the next day with a great turn out of townsfolk bidding for an incredible selection of pledges donated by the good businesses of the ancient town. The shops and the traders absolutely outdid themselves with some really magnificent lots offered up to bid on. A tin bath from Blythe and Wright, holidays, hotel accommodation, rides on Tanks and Harleys and Light aircraft, Huge Lego Toys from Starlings, Bakery and cooking masterclasses. The whole of Sheringham went under the hammer and raised an incredible four and half thousand pounds. Some traders like Kenny Gray and Helen Siddell from Claws N Paws had been missed when Paul went round with his begging bowl Oliver Twist style and so wrote out cheques for a couple of hundred smackers there and then and just donated it!**
Put all together with the money raised by the show ‘We have nearly six thousand pounds to get the ball rolling for the Lights Up fund,’ said Les Popham, treasurer for the Carnival Committee. As to Paul Starling the fat angel of ‘It’s a Wonderful Town. ‘Whose round is it he cried?’ and immediately started planning next year’s Show!
It’s going to be a wonderfully lit up Christmas in Sheringham this year – and you are all invited!
**If anyone, Sheringham business or individual wishes to donate or has some ideas for more funds as a lot more is still needed, please contact Paul at Starling’s Toyshop.

Royal Air Forces Interim Shared Management Agreed Association Sheringham Two Norfolk district councils will share a Chief Executive and S151 Officer on an interim basis. and District Branch
On Friday16 October, a standard was presented to the Branch, sponsored by the RAF Marham Heritage Fund. The standard was handed over by Stephen Roberts, the Station Warrant Officer at RAF Marham and RAF Liaison Officer to the Sheringham and District RAFA Branch.
Chairman Kenneth Macnish received the standard on behalf of the Branch, seen here with SWO Roberts and Standard Bearer Raymond Loake.
The presentation took place in front of the 'Poppies in Steel' sculpture, a memorial commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War in the grounds of the NNDC offices on Holt Road, Cromer.
Chairman of the Council, Mrs Annie ClaussenReynolds, attended the ceremony. The Branch is grateful to the Council for agreeing to our use of the location.
At North Norfolk District Council’s Full Council meeting on Wednesday 21 October, following a constructive debate, councillors unanimously agreed to the interim shared arrangement which will see Chief Executive Sheila Oxtoby shared with Great Yarmouth Borough Council. As well as sharing the Chief Executive role North Norfolk District Council’s Section 151, Chief Finance Officer, Karen Sly, will also take up an interim shared role for Great Yarmouth. The new interim arrangements will begin from 7 November and enable both authorities to test out the shared management approach while a business case is worked up with Elected Members from each authority on the opportunity for sharing services.
Cllr Graham Plant, Leader at Great Yarmouth Borough Council said “This is a good opportunity for Great Yarmouth to test out whether shared management can work both for ourselves and our neighbours in North Norfolk.”
Cllr Tom FitzPatrick, Leader at North Norfolk District Council added “It’s a unique chance to get first-hand experience of what it will mean in practice to share a Chief Executive and a Chief Finance Officer and will allow both authorities to be better informed about what a shared arrangement would mean in practice.”

“It’s a common misconception that a larger firm is better.”
I am Clare Mayell and I run Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor, qualified Family Mediator and Collaborative solicitor.
As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. The common misconception is that a larger local firm or city firm is better but this is incorrect. A client just pays more.
When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I am one of the few solicitors that offffers a free first appointment so that clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision.
I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 823465 0 1263 8 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

Apple Tarte Tatin
Apples are a big part of life here at the Grove. Every spring an (un)willing volunteer is led to the orchard and sent skywards armed with secateurs and definitely a safety harness to lop off the new growth, a precarious business but essential for the good maintenance of the trees. They sit and happily blossom and in the autumn produce the most amazing apples – eaters and cookers – as well as an assortment of plums and pears. We are very lucky to have them and they are very much the apple of the Senior Estate Manager’s eye.
Of course they feature heavily on the menu every year and, occasionally, the kitchen will break into classic French and knock up a beautiful Tarte Tatin for us all to enjoy.
Do come in and see us for the best apples in Cromer – and, of course, don’t forget to book your Christmas Party here too! Ingredients • 4 apples • 50g of butter, soft • 50g of caster sugar • 375g of puff pastry Method 1. Cut the apples in half, peel, core and turn to an even, rounded size. 2. Place the butter in a tarte Tatin pan (or oven-proof frying pan) and press it out to cover the bottom. Sprinkle with the sugar and set aside. Preheat the oven to 180°C/ gas mark 4. 3. Place the pan on the stove, and melt the butter and sugar together until they start to brown. This should take approximately 10 minutes. 4. Roll the puff pastry out to fit the tarte Tatin pan and until it is around 3mm in thickness. Place 7 pieces of apple, cut side up, around the pan containing the butter and sugar mixture, placing 1 in the centre. Cover with the pastry disc and tuck the edges in.
5. Finish cooking the tarte in the oven for 50–60 minutes. Remove and leave to rest a little, then turn the Tatin out by placing a plate upside down over the entire pan and flipping the whole thing over.

sincere thanks to all the local services - fire brigade, ambulance/air ambulance, police etc - and our very kind neighbours & friends on the scene who have also been supporting me since the incident and shown such kindness.
I would also like to add how important our local fire service is and without them the situation would have been far worse.
Thanks also to a lovely young man called Michael who happened to be walking past, as he does regularly, and was first on the scene.
The staff at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital have been great - hopefully my husband Alan will be able to come home sometime next week and recovery will take around six weeks or so. Jeanette Harvey

Residential Landlord and Tenant Issues i> Ì ÊEÊ->viÌÞÊ-iÀÛ ViÃ
Changes to terminating an Assured Shorthold Tenancy by service of a Section 21 notice Written by Amanda Nudds – Solicitor with Hayes + Storr
The Deregulation Act 2015 was passed in March this year covering various issues relating to residential landlords and tenants. From 1 October 2015, provisions will come into force protecting tenants from eviction which can have serious consequences for landlords.
A ‘Section 21’ notice is required to be served on a tenant where a landlord wishes to bring the tenancy to an end. A landlord’s ability to terminate a tenancy this way will be restricted where a tenant has complained about the condition of the property or its common parts and where the landlord either failed to respond within 14 days, has not provided an adequate response or has responded by serving a Section 21 notice.
If landlords fail to adequately respond the tenant will have the opportunity to complain to the Local Housing Authority. Not only is this

likely to result in enforcement notices being served on the landlord by the local authority, but it will also prevent the landlord from serving a Section 21 notice within 6 months of the date of service of the enforcement notice. Of course, the provisions will not apply where the condition of the property or common parts is as a result of the tenant’s breach.
Landlords should be aware that although the new provisions require the tenant’s complaint to be in writing, they will still be taken into consideration where the tenant did not have the landlord’s contact details but made reasonable effort to contact the landlord. It follows that landlords should ensure that tenants have up-to-date information on how to contact them.
These provisions will apply to any assured short-hold tenancy granted on or after 1 October 2015.

THE NORTH NORFOLK GARDENER JOBS FOR NOVEMBER
PERENNIAL QUESTION If you are tidy-minded, it might be difficult to leave perennial plants standing, but wait for a few weeks and you will find that many will make fine winter skeletons and can be left until February or March. The plants will also form useful homes for hibernating insects and birds will appreciate the seeds.
With the first signs of winter, there are jobs to be done before putting the garden to bed. We can enjoy the last days of autumn whilst planning for the winter and next spring.
LEAVES Only collect leaves where absolutely necessary. Don’t leave them too long on the lawn or they will kill the grass underneath but where they have fallen in the beds and have not drifted too deeply, leave the earthworms to pull them into their burrows or let the leaves rot on the surface. This is not laziness but necessary to return goodness to the earth. However, where leaves have drifted deeply or are smothering smaller plants or silver Mediterranean herbs and perennials, clear to keep the plants light and airy. Sweeping
LEAF MOULD If you have room, create a separate leaf heap rather than simply adding leaves to compost, as leaf mould is a luxury soil improver if you are growing lilies in pots. The fibrous nature of leaf mould retains moisture and enables free drainage, which means it also makes a fine mulch for woodland treasures such as trillium or wood anemone. FROST Watch out
hardwood cuttings. As soon as the leaves have fallen, take cuttings at pencil length and pencil thickness. Make a clean cut immediately below a bud and a sloping cut above to tell top from bottom. Plunge to half their depth in compost or a trench in open ground. Vines, cornus, willow, buddleia and fig will be rooted by spring and ready for potting by mid-summer.
PLANTS TO ENJOY NOW Before winter finally arrives, enjoy the plants that are still giving us late colour in the garden, the colourful foliage of the trees and shrubs and their fruit and berries, which are so attractive to the birds.
for the first frosts. If you have not done so already, move tender plants into a cool greenhouse, frame Bob Wilkinson or garage and water less to bring on a state of semi dormancy. In cold districts, tuberous - rooted cannas and dahlias should be dug up and stored in just-damp compost in a cool, We offer a range of legal services airy place. In warmer areas, an ample across North and West Norfolk. mulch of compost or Trust our specialists to give you the leaf mould should bespoke advice and support you need. protect them and they can stay put.

Celebrating Success
About with Friends are celebrating 18 months of success with their ‘Clubs with Friends’ programme.
The programme has allowed young people between the ages of 13 and 25 to become involved with some mainstream clubs and work placements in their local area. Fourteen young people were successfully placed in provision suited to their own interests and supported to settle in, for example attending local youth clubs, bowling groups, social activities, work placements and more. Several others have since been signposted towards suitable provisions now the funding has finished.
About with Friends would like to say a special thank you to Wroxham Barns, who allowed a work placement to take place on the farm throughout the summer. This particular placement was a big success for a young man called Jai, who has ASD, learning difficulties and a special interest in animal care. His time on the farm allowed him to gain knowledge
FRIENDLY & RELIABLE - LOCAL & LONG DISTANCE
of how to care for the animals, as well as spending time interacting with staff and members of the public. The work placement and support gave Jai a big confidence boost, and he fulfilled something he initially said he wouldn’t be able to do, because of his difficulties in many social situations.
Eileen Calverley, Junior Farm Manager at Wroxham Barns backed up the success of the service and added “We support About with Friends because of the difference it can make to young people’s lives. Animals are a wonderful therapy and provide joy and stimulation to a wide range of people. Jai always had a lovely smile and infectious giggle when he was here and we are glad to have given him the opportunity”.
The idea for this strand of work was initially thought up by the Young Commissioners, these are a group of young people that have a very positive influence on their own community.
Sheringham Independent 427 November 7th 2015
The group are involved with all aspects of services provided for young people in their area. Several ideas were presented at a meeting in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style format, and the ‘Clubs with Friends’ project was awarded funding from the Youth Advisory Board (YAB). About with Friends would also like to take this opportunity to thank the YAB and The Benjamin Foundation for the opportunity to carry out the work this funding allowed us to do.

Director of National Youth Choir of Great Britain works with Norfolk schoolchildren for a day of singing As part of a year-long partnership between Gresham’s School in Holt and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB), about 220 school children from across Norfolk took part in a Singing Day led by the director of NYCGB, Ben Parry.
As well as leading the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Ben is an international conductor, composer, singer and producer. He regularly records film soundtracks for Hollywood Blockbusters, plans to tour China
with the National Youth Choir next year and is a former member of the Swingle Singers.
Ben Parry said, “North Norfolk has a great tradition of sending quality singers to join the
National Youth Choir. Many alumni from these parts have flourished with us over the years and it's fantastic that we are helping to continue that tradition with this partnership with Gresham's. NYC strives to offer opportunities for all young children, regardless of financial and social backgrounds. Days like today are a really lovely way to show off what we do to a wider audience.”
The sessions took place on 15 October at Gresham’s School chapel and involved music activities and workshops designed to enthuse and inspire young children of all musical
backgrounds and levels. It was a huge success which culminated in a performance to parents and friends in the afternoon.
Music Outreach Director at Gresham's, Tom Appleton who co-ordinated the day, said: “It's a real coup to be able to bring Ben to Holt. He is in
high demand with choirs across the world. He has a great manner with young children, and I'm sure they have all gained a huge amount from their time with him!”
The schools that took part on the Singing Day were: Gresham's Prep, Beeston Hall School, Alderman Peel, Wells-next-the-Sea Primary School, Sculthorpe CEVA Primary School, Rudham Primary School, West Raynham CEVA Primary, Weasenham Church of England Primary School and Colkirk CE VA Primary School.
As part of the partnership with the school, the NYCGB will hold auditions for new members in November at Gresham’s, the choir will perform in the Auden Theatre in January 2016 as part of the school's Subscription Concert Series and there are plans to hold a residential course at the school next summer.

Sheringham & Cromer Choral Society
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society are delighted to announce that the gifted young conductor, Harry Ogg, who graduated from Clare College Cambridge in 2012, is to conduct their concert with London Mozart Players in Cromer Church on Saturday 28 November.
Harry won the Cambridge University Music Society's Conducting Competition in both his first and second years, going on to assist Sir Mark Elder, Sir Richard Armstrong and others as a result. Harry made his professional debut conducting the London School's Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican in September 2011 for which he was described as "a gifted musician and lucid conductor" and "someone to keep a very particular eye on". Recent projects include conducting Britten's "The Turn of the Screw" at Opera Holland Park, working as the Assistant Conductor and Head
of Music at English Touring Opera (Spring Tour 2014) and conducting the Halle in "Britten to America" for NMC Recordings.
The concert on 28 November will feature Vespers by Norwich-based composer Richard Allain. Sub-titled Songs of the Sea this will be something of a coastal homecoming for this work which was originally commissioned by Southend Festival Chorus in 2011 to reflect the coastal heritage of the area. Over the summer Mr Allain has re-worked and re-orchestrated this piece especially for this north Norfolk performance. The choir will be joined by a line-up of fine soloists including soprano Rosamund Walton, mezzo soprano Evie Anderson and tenor Oliver White. The concert will also include Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis and John Adams’ Shaker Loops which will brilliantly demonstrate the active part which London Mozart Players take in contemporary music.
Thanks to the generous support of Arts Council England, Orchestras Live, North Norfolk District Council and others, this concert presents a rare and wonderful opportunity to see and hear one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras in north Norfolk.
Don’t miss it!

Services, said: “The Orchestras Live North Norfolk series has been hugely successfully and the London Mozart Players at Cromer Parish Church promises to be a fantastic finale! The series has offered a great opportunity for people to enjoy exceptional orchestral concerts here in north Norfolk and we look forward to supporting Orchestras Live again next year.”

Sheringham Players
Sheringham Players are a very friendly amateur dramatic group of dedicated people from Sheringham and the surrounding area who, for over the past 50 years, have brought comedy, tragedy and drama to the local stage, while supporting Sheringham Little Theatre. The Players put on three or four plays a year designed to involve as many members as possible and to suit all tastes, and also hold a variety of social events throughout the year. A warm welcome is extended to anyone, with or without experience, who would like to join this lively fun group, as either actors or working behind the scenes - please visit our website www.sheringham-players.org.uk or contact the Chairman David Bull on David.r.bull101@gmail.com for more details.
Following on from their very successful sell out summer production, rehearsals have been ongoing over the last few months for their autumn production of ‘And Evermore Shall Be So’, a humorous murder mystery by international playwrite Norman Robbins, who has written 15 plays and 22 pantomimes which have been performed successfully around the world. Taking the title from the traditional folk song ‘Green Grow the Rushes Oh’, this play, directed by Greg Pope, explores the events surrounding a murder that took place four years previously in the sleepy village of Athleston near Norwich. It takes local gossip Sheila Pashley to realise how strangely the song lyrics seem to fit with the circumstances, where the action focuses on the repercussions that can be felt where there is “something wrong with the village”...... “a sense of evil about it”……where gossiping villagers, pillars of the community, some very shady characters and even the local vicar all have their secrets to hide. All the clues evolve throughout the play, but will you be able to sort the truth from the gossip and find your way through the twists and turns to work out the final scene? The play, which already promises to be another popular choice, runs from Thursday 19 – Saturday 21 November, 7.30pm at Sheringham Little Theatre. Tickets at just £10 and are available now from the Theatre Box Office.

Santa’s Sleigh Appeal
For the third year we at C.A.S. Travel, Sheringham are running our very successful Santa’s Sleigh Appeal. We will be having a Santa’s Sleigh in our branch between 14 November and 12 December and are hoping to fill the sleigh with lots of lovely toys and goodies, which will then be presented to Break Charity on 17 December. Break Charity will then distribute the gifts to the vulnerable children, families and young people they work with. We would be so grateful if you would be able to help us with this worthy cause and donate a small gift, child’s book or toy, unwrapped from a baby to a teenager. All we ask, is that you pop it into the branch unwrapped by 18 December. We really hope this year’s appeal will be even more

Speakers Club President visits North Carolina Club
President of North Norfolk Speakers Club, Stuart Richards, recently visited Asheville Speakers Club in North Carolina.
Both clubs are part of Toastmasters International, which has 14,650 clubs worldwide and since 1925 has been helping people from all walks of life to gain confidence in speaking and develop skills in communication and leadership.
‘I thoroughly enjoyed my visit’, said Stuart. ‘I was informed that dress
code was very casual and it can be daunting visiting another club, especially wearing shorts! I was quickly put at ease by the warmth of the hospitality I received and as members of Toastmasters there was common ground and shared experience- like visiting an extended family. I had a lot of fun, learned more about improvised speaking and left with new ideas to bring back to my own club.’

Kelling Probus Club
Kelling Probus Club met at the Dales Country Club on Thursday 15 October.
Members were privileged to hear and were inspired by the talk given by Ms Joan Latta on the subject of Cerebral Palsy, a condition from which she suffers herself.
Joan, who was given a prognosis for survival at birth of 24 hours is, at the age of 23 years, an engaging, charming, funny and informative speaker but she is also a singularly impressive exemplar of triumph over adversity. She described how she has had to learn to swallow, speak, move and exercise. She spoke for the disabled, and the challenges faced in poising a balance between the requirement to deal with embarrassment and inadequate facilities on the one hand, and the determination to demand the human right of equal opportunity on the other.

For Joan that determination has required hard work and patience with speech therapy, occupational therapy, specialist education and specialist respiratory and chiropractor treatment. As a result she has learned to swim, ride, hike, dance, pass examinations, write books and compete. She has overcome depression and emerged to establish her own business and is now an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and is one of three finalists for the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Award for 2015. North Norfolk 618th out of 650 for Superfast Broadband
North Norfolk is ranked 618th out of the 650 Parliamentary Constituencies for Superfast Broadband according to new research. The area fares even worse for average download speeds; coming 621st out of 650.
Local MP, Norman Lamb says the figures show more needs to be done to reach rural areas with high speed broadband.
“Time and again, people in North Norfolk come to me with problems relating to internet access. Investment in high speed broadband is as essential to modern life as investment in roads and telephones. We need decent broadband coverage in the area to help small businesses but also to give parents access to educational resources for their children and people who live in isolated areas access to friends and family,” says the MP. The coalition government and Norfolk County Council pledged funds to reach rural areas with fast broadband. I will keep pressing to ensure that North Norfolk is a priority for investment.” 22

Local disaster movie for Northrepps!
The next film being put on by Northrepps Film Society is a true local disaster movie: Floods of East Anglia, 1912-53. Consisting mainly of archive news footage, this vividly recalls some of the sea’s most dramatic invasions of our coast and shows the chaos caused as homes and livelihoods are swept away. As it lasts little more than an hour it will be preceded by a second, shorter film of local interest to fill out the evening.
The show is on Thursday 12 November (not the first Thursday of the month, as usual) when doors at Northrepps Village Hall open at 7pm with drinks for sale until the first film starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 payable at the door. We hope to see you there!

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
The work continues with the feral colony mentioned last time and several more of the adults have now been neutered with the help of the neighbour. However, we have now heard there are a further nine kittens to be taken into care, the first four as soon as they can be caught and the others as soon as they are old enough to leave the mother cat.
I believe most people are aware that everyone connected to the branch is a volunteer, willingly giving their time to help needy cats in our area. However, as they all also have families and some have jobs, their spare time is precious and it is very frustrating when on “cat business” this valuable time is wasted. They often change their arrangements so that someone can come to see the cats in care, as they are looking for a new companion. Having organised this, they sometimes find the person has changed their mind (or gone elsewhere) and their much valued free time has been lost. Occasionally, people will turn up earlier or later than agreed and this does cause problems, as the changes they have made to help the person concerned mean that, once again, they have to alter their own arrangements, which is not always convenient. Life would be so much
93 STATION ROAD, SHERINGHAM, NORFOLK
easier for our volunteers (especially those that foster the cats) if people could remember this. On a happier note, we are now finalising arrangements for our Christmas Sale on 21 November in St Benets Hall (please see What’s on Where). This year our “Crafty Ladies” have been very busy and produced lots of new items for sale. We are also including a new stall selling lots of delicious cakes, jams and pickles to tempt those who enjoy home produced goods. There are also plenty of lovely things for sale on our usual stalls, so we hope you will all come along and support the cats on the day. If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.

Lasers for skin health
Our treatments make your skin healthy and delay age related changes We live in an age of technological revolutions and breakthroughs. Medicine has also benefited from an explosion in technology. Lasers have completely changed the field of cosmetic dermatology.
A couple of ground breaking studies from California have shown that light-based treatments do not only make the skin appear younger, they are actually making skin healthier and delaying skin ageing. Lasers work not only at a visible level but also at a microscopic, cellular and genetic level.
Researchers analysed characteristics of treated skin by taking skin biopsies and found that of the 2265 genes whose expression was altered in aged skin, 1,293 were fully restored to the expression seen in younger skin. After three successive Broadband Light treatments, the re-expressed genes included those associated with longevity and increased life.
A second blinded study showed that patients in the treated group on average had nine years younger looking skin.
Lasers can also be used very successfully to treat acne scarring, facial wrinkles and to achieve skin tightening. These procedures however may require a small amount of recovery time. These can be performed purely under local anaesthesia
For Vein care, we are now routinely able to treat conditions and achieving results which just 10 years ago would have been considered far fetched. In general there is a move away from major surgery and minimally invasive procedures and lasers are capable of achieving similar or better results with less risk of complications.
So can we see anyone with a laser? We see major advances in technology which has resulted in better and better machines becoming available, at the same time there has been proliferation of less than desirable, and sometimes dangerous technology at the lower end of the market. Not all lasers are good and there are a lot of unqualified people using these so do your research before choosing a clinic and/ or a practitioner. In worst case scenario the outcomes can be less than desirable with complications sometimes difficult or impossible to rectify. So don’t take chances and visit a well established and reputable clinic. Preferably a clinic registered with Care Quality Commission, the only regulator of health care in England.
What conditions can your lasers treat? Lasers can very successfully address a number of skin concerns either together or one at a time. This could be visible broken veins and capillaries, birth marks, acne, acne scarring, pigmentation, rosacea or facial blemishes. age spots of face, neck, chest and hands etc. Skin tags, moles and benign lumps and bumps can be vaporised in an instant, in a bloodless procedure and with minimal risk of scarring. Unwanted hair can be removed and tattoos can be faded or removed completely and leg veins can be sealed from inside in a nonsurgical way rather than having to undergo painful stripping operations. We also use lasers to tighten the tissues under the skin as can be achieved with laser liposuction and laser assisted face and neck lift surgery. Where can we find more information about these treatments? Log on to www.coltishallclinic.co.uk for more information, treatment prices and downloadable information sheets.
How can we book an appointment? Call us free on 0800 0430737 or fill our appointment request form on the website and we will contact you.

Earlier in October, North Norfolk Photographic Society held the first members’ competition of the season, for printed pictures, and a couple of weeks later on 21 October it was the turn of members’ digital projected images.
Rob Palethorpe had won the print contest in the Novice section, and Pigeon Fancier by Rob Palethorpe he did it again with his ‘Pigeon Fancier‘ - a man feeding (and besieged by) pigeons in a public place.
The Advanced section was again in two parts. Firstly, the set subject which was ‘Close Up’. Judith Wells was the winner with her ‘King Eider’ - a beautiful photograph of the colourful head of the bird.
The Open Advanced competition oddly included a fair number of close up images - and one of them, King Eider by Judith Wells ‘Tree Frog’ by Hugh Barton was the winner - a spiral plant stem on which a tree frog sits, looking straight at the camera! The judge on short notice was David Steel from Cambridge, who travels extensively from his home in Cambridge to give talks to Camera Clubs and to judge photo competitions.
Meetings of Norfolk the North Photographic Society are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays each Tree Frog by Hugh Barton month from 7.30pm in the Holt Community Centre. For further details please contact the club Secretary, Judith Wells at secretary.nnps@gmail.com.
