SHERINGHAM-MUZILLAC TWINNING ASSOCIATION
Entering Sheringham on any of the town's four main roads you might notice that our smart new town signs advertise Sheringham's twinning links with Otterndorf in Lower Saxony, Germany and with Muzillac in Brittany, France.
Since its inception around eleven years ago, the Sheringham-Muzillac Twinning Association has fostered close links with Muzillac, an attractive and typically French town just minutes from the Gulf of Morbihan, on the Atlantic coast of picturesque southern Brittany.
The SMTA holds regular vents such as meals and wine tastings to bring together its members for a good night out, and to boost funds.
Since the associations were officially recognised by the councils of both towns in 2015, the entente between the two towns has grown ever more cordiale and, last year, not only did Sheringham members travel to Brittany to spend around a week living in the homes of members of the Muzillac association, but a group of ramblers from the French town came over later in the year to meet with local walkers for several days of walking in our own lovely county.

SHERINGHAM-MUZILLAC TWINNING ASSOCIATION
Continued from front cover... This year, the roles will be reversed, with French visitors coming to see us from 12-17 July (see the timetable below) and a group of north Norfolk walkers crossing the Channel to explore the delightful Morbihan countryside in October. Around 60 members typically make up the Sheringham association, and the French side is thriving too. We make new members very welcome and, although the association is self-financing and receives no subsidies, annual subscriptions are kept very low.
If you are Francophile by nature, and possibly already know the southern Brittany area, or feel your children might benefit from getting to know a French town, its citizens and its language, why not join us? See our website at www.sheringham-muzillac.co.uk for more information, or phone Julia Hurlbut, our chair, on 01263 713782.
People from Brittany are renowned for being welcoming and hospitable—and we like to think we are too!
TIMETABLE OF THE VISIT Tuesday 12 July - Our visitors from Muzillac arrive in Sheringham Wednesday 13 July - 10am : Civic welcome by the Mayor of Sheringham, at the Sheringham Community Centre Thursday 14 July - Visit to Holkham Hall Saturday 16 July - 6.30pm: Evening meal at ‘The Lighthouse’, Sheringham. Cromer and District Foodbanks thanks two key volunteers
After three years as Treasurer, David Moore is stepping down to spend more time on his other work as a Cromer & District Foodbank volunteer. David now runs a distribution centre every week and is a dedicated driver picking up food and taking it out to distribution centres across the district.
“We want to express our gratitude to David – he has been a fantastic Treasurer and continues to commit so much of his time to the Foodbank,” says Project Manager Ella King.
“We are also hugely grateful to Caroline O’Grady, who has volunteered to take on the role of Treasurer. Caroline joins us in a year that is seeing huge growth.”
Since it was founded in 2012, the foodbank has built up a strong support network for local people in financial crisis, working with over 90 partner agencies to offer food and advice across 200 square miles of North Norfolk.

FLOWER DISPLAY COMPETITION SHERINGHAM HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY IN SHERINGHAM
At long last, and after a number of delays, Sheringham in Bloom have got the town’s hanging baskets up, just in time for the Potty festival. We will now be organising the floral competitions for shops and businesses which will be judged during the week beginning the 11th July. There are various classes for all the flower displays that go out in the town during the summer months, and there is no need to enter as our judges will cover the whole town. So make sure your displays are looking their best from the 11th to the 17th and you may well be in line for an award.
We also have classes for residential front gardens, but over the last few years these have proved increasingly difficult to judge. So we are changing how we do this and are throwing the judging open to the public. So if, as you walk around the town, you are aware of a particularly nice front garden we would like you to take a minute to contact us by telephone (01263 825242) or email (joanthame123@gmail.com). We will then arrange for our judges to visit each of the gardens and select the best for an award. The deadline for contacting us is 30th July as this will give a chance for the judges to still see the gardens at their best.
Thank you for all your help and support during the year and we hope you enjoy our lovely floral town.

The Inter Society Quiz between gardeners from Sheringham, Cromer and Hoveton held in Cromer on 8 June resulted in another win by a Sheringham team to retain, once again, the challenge cup. Congratulations to all those who took part.
Our next talk will be held in St. Joseph’s Parish Centre on Thursday, 21 July on ‘Colour in the Garden’ by Shelagh Ashe of Norfolk Garden Design. The talk starts at 7.30pm.
Preparations are now being made for the Annual Show which takes place in the Lighthouse Church on Saturday, 13 August. Schedules will be distributed to members in due course and copies will be circulated around the town.
There is something for everyone at the show, so if you grow vegetables, fruit, flowers or pot plants, cook, make preserves or produce handicraft items this is a great chance to enter into friendly competition with your friends and neighbours.
There are many who visit flower shows and are surprised to see that the exhibits appear to be no better than what is growing in their own gardens, or what they have baked that very week, or with the photographs they have just taken. The trouble is that they have left it all at home and therefore, have no chance of proving its merits. So don’t hesitate, get hold of a schedule and have a go at entering our show this August.

Have your say on new council ward boundaries for two Norfolk councils
The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England is asking local people for their help to draw up a new pattern of council wards for North Norfolk District Council and South Norfolk District Council.
The consultations are the first stage of and electoral review of each council, which will re-draw ward boundaries across both districts.
The Commission has also announced that it is minded to recommend that North Norfolk should have 40 councillors in future: a reduction of eight from the current arrangements.
The Commission has also agreed that South Norfolk should have 46 councillors in the future: the same as its current arrangements.
The Commission now needs information from local people and groups to help it to produce a new pattern of wards to accommodate councillors across both districts.
In drawing up new boundaries, the Commission aims to deliver electoral equality for voters in council elections so that each councillor represents roughly the same number of voters. The review also aims to ensure that the new council wards reflect, as far as possible, the interests and identities of communities across the districts.
Professor Colin Mellors, Chair of the
Sheringham Independent 443
Commission, said “We are asking local people and organisations to help us draw up new wards for North Norfolk and South Norfolk District Councils. As we develop the recommendations for each council, we will take into account local community identities as well as ensuring electoral equality for voters.
If you have a view about which communities or neighbourhoods should be part of the same council ward, then we want to hear from you. And if you think a road, river or railway makes for a strong boundary between communities in your part of your district, then this consultation is for you. Alternatively, if you are simply interested in the way your council is run, just log on to our website to explore our interactive maps and have your say.
Your views will make a difference.
We will carefully consider all evidence that is provided during this phase of the review whoever it is from and whether it applies to the whole of your district or just a small part of the it.
“Residents will then have a further chance to have their say after we publish our draft recommendations for both councils in November.”
Local people have until 5 September 2016 to submit their views. Further information on the
July 9th 2016
review and interactive maps of the existing wards can be found at www.consultation.lgbce.org.uk and www.lgbce.org.uk.

Weather predictions from Ned Nimbus for the next three months …
Unfortunately, the April to June predictions turned out to be very close to what happened, with only brief appearances of summery weather, thundery outbreaks when the sun did come out and some wide variations on a daily basis in temperature.
The next three months, July to September, will produce more of the same, although as we progress through the period there will be an
increase in fine days, thundery weather will still be a threat, but a persistence of cold northerly winds will diminish. There will be more of a dominance of weather coming in from the Atlantic, which should favour us.
Rainfall totals will vary because of a continual threat of heavy thunderstorms following brief hot/very warm days. Ned Nimbus July2016

Holt Festival
Saturday 23 – Sunday 31 July
The Holt Festival has announced the full line up for the 2016 event. Described by Norwich Theatre Royal Chief Executive Peter Wilson as ‘One of the most important cultural events in Norfolk’, the award winning Festival is a glorious celebration of the arts and a jewel in the North Norfolk Crown.
Now in its eighth year, the Festival brings outstanding world class theatre, music, comedy, literature, children’s and visual art events to the picturesque Georgian town for eight days, from 23 to 31 July. Featuring a wealth of talent, this spectacular week of art and entertainment is testament to Artistic Director, Charles Pugh’s devotion to scouring the artistic world for performers who are exciting, interesting, sometimes challenging, sometimes nostalgic, but always entertaining.
Charles said ‘This year our list of famous artists grows even longer: Gyles Brandreth, Colin Cloud, Julie Christie, Joanna Trollope, Kate Adie, Jenny Eclair, Mark Watson not to mention famous name bands from the rocking 60s, 70s and 80s. But of course fame is not the only kite mark of excellence. Diamonds shine very brightly in our programme, with some names to look out for in the future. Believe me they will not disappoint. Please explore and enjoy!’
Holt Festival also makes a substantial donation to the Holt Youth Project - one of England’s most imaginative, award winning youth schemes. Serving young people across north Norfolk, it prides itself on preventative programmes that allow young people to reach their full potential. This year’s donation will be used to fund Community Music East to work with young people to create a new show during Festival week. Latest round of Big Society Fund grants agreed
Groups encouraged to apply
The latest round of Big Society Fund grants have been agreed, with North Norfolk District Council supporting a wide range of groups, including allotment holders, cyclists, churchgoers and young people.
NNDC's Big Society Fund offers grants of up to £15,000 to voluntary and community organisations based in North Norfolk.
Since the fund started in 2012, well over £1,000,000 has been awarded to more than 150 community projects.
The committee which oversees the grants meets four times a year. This time they approved grants totaling more than £65,500. The awards are subject to each group agreeing to formal terms and conditions.
BSF grant awards in this round were awarded to:
• Briston Wanderers Football Club (£3,000) for four new goals and a pitch marking machine.
• Bodham Village Hall (£7,000) for the replacement and upgrade of toilet facilities at the village hall.
• Active Fakenham (£3,872) for the purchase of a mobile health stall, three smoothie bikes
80s
and related equipment to promote healthy living and wellbeing.
• Stiffkey Parish Council (£572) so the Parish Council can fence off land they have recently leased for use as an allotment site. They will also buy a communal shed.
• Stiffkey Social Services Committee (£8,770) to buy and install play equipment and safety surfacing.
• Southrepps Parish Council (£2,230) so the Southrepps Commons Trust can purchase and install a storage container for equipment and tools, alarm and ancillary items.
• Activating CIC (£8,000) to create a PedalPark at Scottow Enterprise Park that will be the region’s only traffic-free cycle park providing recreational riding, coaching and competition opportunities to the local community regardless of age, current physical activity levels or level of cycling experience.
• Sea Palling with Waxham Parochial Church Council (£1,200) to make the access to both the church room and the Nissen Hut safe for people of all ages and all abilities, including those who rely on walking aids and wheelchairs.
• Bale Village Hall (£12,000) for Phase 1 of the renovation of the village hall,
which is construction of a new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant toilet block.
• Thursford Parochial Church Council (£13,000) for Phase 3 of refurbishment of St Andrew’s Parish Church, which is provision and installation of a kitchen in the church.
• Withergate Rifle and Pistol Club (£6,000) for reconnection of the club to a mains electrical power supply.
Cllr Tom FitzPatrick, Leader of North Norfolk District Council and Cabinet Member for Big Society, said “The range of people being helped by this round of Big Society Fund grants is particularly notable. All ages will benefit and the diversity of the interest groups is very wide. Health and wellbeing features across many of the groups being given grants, from allotments to cycling and smoothie bikes to a commons trust.
“I would encourage groups and organisations to put in an application for the next round. If you are not sure what to do, get in touch with us for advice, as we are keen to help as many groups and organisations as possible.”
If you have an idea or a project that you wish to develop and apply for funding, you are encouraged to speak to your local councillor and get in touch with the Council (via Sonia Shuter tel. 01263 516173, email supporting.communities@ north-norfolk.gov.uk) or visit www.northnorfolk.org/bigsocietyfund

An ‘Apportunity’ for Aylsham Norfolk town launches digital guide
Aylsham may be able to trace its roots back over 1500 years but it is coming right up to date with a digital-age initiative from Aylsham Business & Enterprise Forum (ABEF).
Believed to be the first of its kind in East Anglia, the Aylsham App – available to android and iPhone operating systems – will provide local residents and visitors with an invaluable guide to the town, its facilities, events, businesses and other organisations. Developed by local company Norfolk Geeks, the App is joined by a newly-designed website, www.discoveraylsham.org with interaction 12
between the two allowing individual companies and organisations to update their own entries. The App, when downloaded, is also designed to be useable without wi-fi or mobile data, a valuable feature in an area where a reliable connection is not always available.
ABEF Chair, Monica Harding, comments “The App is a very important development for the town and as far as we know, the first of its kind in East Anglia. With financial support, on top of ABEF’s own funds, from Broadland District Council, Aylsham High School and Aylsham Town Council, Norfolk Geeks have been able to develop a state-of-the-art facility which will
not only benefit local businesses and add to the tourist attraction of our historic town, but also provide a valuable source of information for the local community.”
The Aylsham App features local information including historic sites, walks, transport information and events as well as businesses, shops and organisations. It provides a free and invaluable guide to this historic town, for the community and visitors alike.

It’s what he would have wanted… By Miranda Marshall – Director at Hayes + Storr
The case of Peter Jones related to the preparation of a Statutory Will (ie one ordered to be made by the Court). The facts were as follows. J was 81 and suffered from dementia. He had been married to W for over 40 years and had one child, a 56-year old daughter (D) from a previous marriage, who lived in Canada. D had suffered from addiction, mental health problems and serious financial difficulties. J had only seen her once when she was 13, once again at 23 and again in the last year; otherwise they only had infrequent telephone contact. J’s estate was worth about £2.3million and he had no Will. If he died intestate, after allowing for the statutory legacy of £250,000 plus personal chattels for his W, W and D would each receive half of the remainder of his estate.
The case is interesting as it provides a helpful discussion of the structured decision-making process, the consultation required and the principles applied in Statutory Will cases. There is not room to detail them here. It shows how such cases are heavily fact-dependent.
The Official Solicitor, for J, submitted that it was in J’s best interests that a Statutory Will was made to enable an independent professional executor to be appointed and to avoid the intestacy provision, which gave too much weight to D’s limited involvement in
J’s life and failed adequately to provide for W, given their long marriage.
J was described as “an old-fashioned and authoritarian man”. He had intended that W and D would both benefit from his estate in due course, but preferred to retain control over his money and relationships for as long as possible. D had always loved him and they had a close and loving relationship until they separated. The absence of D’s visits was explained by her sensitivity, fragile mental health and financial circumstances, and by J’s inapproachability, rather than by lack of interest on her part. J loved D and had stated that he intended to include both D and W in his Will.
The fact that J had not made a Will did not demonstrate that he wished to limit W’s inheritance to what she would receive under intestacy or Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975. It was likely that he intended to arrange for W to receive the greater part of his estate, whilst making reasonable financial provision for D.
It was considered improbable that J would not wish to benefit D. The receipt of funds by D would have a life-changing effect and no significant effect on J or W’s well-being.
It was decided that the estate should be split 25% for D and 75% for W. D’s benefit should be made up of a lifetime gift together with a legacy on J’s death with a combined value of £625,000. The immediate gift enabled the purchase of a home followed by a cash legacy when J died.
The Court ordered that it was in J’s best interests that a lifetime gift and a Statutory Will were to be made accordingly.

Kelling Probus Club
Kelling Probus Club met for lunch at the Dales Country Club Hotel on Thursday 16 June.
The speaker was Sarah Jackson. Sarah described her work as a midwife for Medecin sans Frontieres (MSF) in Ethiopia, at Waheer, close to the Somali Border. MSF receives no government funding, relies entirely on charitable gifting, and works specifically in regions and zones where warfare and violence generate particular hardship and need, often exposing its personnel to significant risk. Sarah reported that MSF has, since its inception in the early 70’s, worked in 80 different countries and has treated millions of patients, many of whom could have had access to no other medical care.
Sarah described her location as remote to the extent that both patients attending her clinic, and also those who might well have benefitted from onward referral for surgical management, would face several days of difficult travel.
Such journeys would not be covered by adequate pain relief and would further
compromise outcomes for both mother and child. Provision of care in such circumstances was further complicated by inadequate supplies of clean water, a lack of sterilisation facilities for instruments and equipment, and by malnutrition of mothers and infants. Prioritising management required concern for and understanding of the wider family and the importance of a mother’s health to the survival of elder siblings.
The clinic was sometimes attended by soldiers and armed men, including boys, and by the sound of gunfire which had to be correctly attributed as due to either celebration or conflict. There was a risk of kidnap by the Al-Shabaab (Al Quaeda-linked) terrorist group. The staff of the clinic depended on local sources for information about the level of these risks. Sarah also trained local midwives to deal with
difficult childbirths in a culture where most deliveries are aided by neighbours and where infant mortality rates are 60 % and the frequency of death in childbirth of a 15 year old mother is 7,500 times greater than it is in Europe.
Her audience was deeply impressed by Sarah’s articulate and riveting account of her experiences, by her willingness to accept the stress of such responsibilities, and by her inspiring example of service to common humanity.
A collection was made for a donation to MSF. Should others wish to support the work of Medecin sans Frontieres, donation on line is possible at uk.fundraising@london.msf.org.

Dear Margaret,
Through The Sheringham Independent, may I add my thanks to all the personnel at Sheringham RNLI station for the kindness they showed to a very frightened and seriously ill little boy. I know he and his family have written to the station.
Joshua, now 8 and thankfully well on the way to making a complete recovery, was suffering from a rare and serious kidney complaint. The crew heard about the lad who was completely unknown to them. Dan Hagen and ‘STRETCH’ arranged for a crew signed copy of the ‘Shout’ book, together with a Sheringham RNLI cap, to be sent to him.
Joshua was determined to get well enough to come to Sheringham to see ‘his’ boat and thank everyone in person.
This the family did in early June, driving up from their home in West Somerset.
Joshua, his brother and his sister were treated royally – tours of the radio room, tractor, boat and trailer, watching a launch and retrieval and last of all ‘work experience’carefully supervised by the shore crew, cleaning part of the boat engine cover laid out on the slipway. The icing on the cake was last week receiving a set of large colour prints of their visit from Chris Taylor.
So thank you so much Brian Farrow, Chris, Dan, ‘STRETCH’ and all the crew for your time and compassion.
Yours sincerely, Margaret Gould

Rail tale is a platform for combined talents
The railway drama arriving at Sheringham Little Theatre this summer includes a handful of amateur actors enjoying the ride to gain experience of a professional summer season.
A 10-strong cast couples up six repertory pros with four local faces keen to learn from the journey.
"Having local cast members is lovely - giving people who support the theatre all year round the chance to discover how rep works - by being part of it."
will play varied and multiple roles from housekeeper and cook to passengers and boys.
Ruth said "I am really looking forward to it. The story is one of my favourites - full of emotion and with a happy ending."
On Saturday 13 August there will be a chance to meet the acting cast, in character, at Weybourne station from 10.30am.
It will happen during The Railway Children between 10 – 16 August - one of six plays during the venue’s summer drama season.
Discount deals for people visiting the show and the railway will be in operation.
Director Amy Wyllie said the adaptation saw a tunnel and tracks on stage, and there would be sound effects but the locations, action and train were down to the cast to create with their descriptions and acting skills.
The railway is also staging special drop-in activities for children, linked to the classic adventure story, during the stage show’s run.
Every day there will be fun events at the line’s three main stations.
"The whole drama is a challenge North Norfolk amateur actors Ruth Elliott, Laura Finnemore and Paris Chandler because of the many locations who will join the cast of The Railway Children on the platform with luggage • at Sheringham youngsters can involved, so everyone has to use collect story packages, to enable their imaginations." them to write their own Railway Children Ruth Elliott from Aldborough, who has acted inspired tale. Wide awake liposuction for body contouring
Laser liposuction under local anaesthesia
Liposuction means a major surgical procedure to most people. What is less well known is that it can be carried out in a safe, gentle and comfortable manner.
If I told you that you can have liposuction while listening to music and then walk out of the procedure room-would you believe me? Yes, it is possible and has been for a while.
Coltishall Clinic has been using lasers for liposuction for last many years. Recently we acquired the newest fat melting laser from Italy. Laser liposuction is a well-known and established procedure. What is unique about this laser is its ability to melt fat, which is 10 times more than the older lasers. This is the first such laser unit in use in the UK. We not only offer laser liposuction-we have a choice of lasers to select based on every patient’s unique characteristics.
Who is suitable for laser liposuction? Anyone with resistant pockets of fat that do not go away despite diet and exercise. You have to be in good general health without significant medical problems and near your ideal body weight. This is not a weight loss measure but a body sculpting or contouring treatment.
What areas are commonly treated? Mummy tummy, upper and lower abdomen, cheeks,
jowls and neck, love handles, muffin tops, hips, man boobs or moobs, upper arms, thighs, knees and most other body areas with localised collections of fat.
What happens during the procedure? You will have a medical consultation and treatment plan will be discussed. Dr Gheyi will then mark the area to be treated with you looking in the mirror. Your wishes and desires will dictate the extent of the procedure and this will be agreed beforehand. A detailed consent procedure will take place. Fine needles will be used to administer a very dilute solution of local anaesthesia while you will be chatting with the team. A tiny 0.6 mm laser fibre will then be introduced into the treatment area. The laser will be activated after you have worn the eye protection. You will not feel any pain. The laser will melt the fat. The procedure is stopped here for small areas of fat or to tighten lax skin. For larger area small stainless steel tubes (micro cannula) will be used to suck out melted fat. Following this, you will be able to stand up and look at your new body contour in a mirror. Compression garments will then be applied and you will be able to go home. You will need someone to drive you home.
What happens after the procedure? You will have dressings and tight compression garments for 24 hours. After this, the dressings can be removed and gentle compression used for
further 3-5 days. You are encouraged to go for a light walk and bed rest in not recommended. Most people return to normal activities within 2-5 days. Slight degree of soreness-similar to sore muscles after unaccustomed exercise is common.
So, if you have wanted liposuction but worry about general anaesthesia, hospitalisation or lengthy recovery period or bruising, give us a call on 0800 0430737 or log on to the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk for more information.

The lively, colourful, witty work of painter and illustrator Eloise O’Hare – Norfolk-born and now Norwich-based, though she grew up in Dublin and has travelled the world extensively – has become a great favourite with visitors to The Gallery Norfolk in Cromer.
She is now being honoured with her own exhibition at the gallery, to run from 16th July to 6th August. It will feature newly-painted pen and watercolour pictures of her favourite Norfolk coastal towns and villages, such as Wells-next-the-Sea, Blakeney, Wiveton, Cley, Sheringham, Mundesley and, of course, Cromer. There will be sweeping views of waterfronts, harbours and beaches, but Eloise will also show her eye for detail … quaint side streets, fascinating architectural features, beach huts, postboxes and doorways framed by trailing flowers. The pictures will range widely in both size and price (£95 - £395), offering plentiful opportunity for acquiring an original painting by one of Norfolk’s most distinctive artists.

SUMMER EXHIBITION Eloise O’’’BHare
16th July to 3rd August 2016 New and original watercolours of the North Norfolk coastline
Combining exhilarating spontaneity, expressed in surging washes of watercolour, with a draughtsman’s elegance in her expert use of pen and ink, Eloise creates paintings that are both joyous and thoughtful. She sees her work in musical terms, describing herself as an orchestrator and conductor and hoping that the birds she depicts “almost sing across the page.”

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
Our lovely Harvey has now been confirmed as being FIV positive, so will be looking for a loving new indoor home, either as the only cat, or with another FIV positive cat. He is a favourite with all his carers as he is always so pleased to see them and cannot wait for them to give him a fuss and a cuddle. When you compare his photo now with the one taken shortly after his arrival, it is hard to believe it is the same cat. This lovely lad is not in the first flush of youth but will make an ideal companion for someone looking for an indoor cat. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that someone will come along and choose him soon.
Another recent addition to the cat pens is Bre, who joined us after a call from our vets. Bre is 13-14 years old and was taken to the vets to be put to sleep because she needed treatment, and although the person handing her over had been feeding her for 2 years they did not regard her as their cat. Bre already had one cauliflower ear and now had a nasty haematoma on the other one. Initial treatment to drain the haematoma was not successful so an LARGE RANGE OF WE FIT WIPER BLADES operation was CAR PARTS & BULBS necessary. Once she has been given a clean bill of health she too will be put Harvey, such a handsome lad now up for adoption his coat has re-grown and make someone a loving companion.
Recently we have had several large bills to cover the cost of treatments for cats in our care so please do support us at forthcoming events. Events like the Fun Day on the Park at North Walsham on 26 June where Ant, Rachel and Sue raised £178.86.

North Norfolk Railway Cromer Dining Train Special Services The North Norfolk Railway is pleased to announce the dates of the special dining services that are scheduled to operate this summer.
Over the past year, a considerable amount of work has been carried out involving Abelio, Network Rail, West Coast Rail and the North Norfolk Railway to offer a number of special dining services to include Cromer.
The North Norfolk Railway (NNR) is now able to confirm that the first of these services will operate on 10 August, the first being a VIP only trip followed by a tea train open to pre-booked customers. This will be followed by a lunch and tea train on 11 August, again pre bookable. 26
The plan to operate through to Cromer from the North Norfolk Railway has meant upgrading the coaching stock and equipping one of the based steam locomotives with additional equipment required for mainline operations. The Railway has also had to hire a diesel locomotive, which is registered for mainline use, to haul the train to Cromer. The reason for this is that there are no facilities at Cromer to change the locomotive from one end of the train to the other, therefore the train will have a locomotive on both ends. The current plan will see the steam locomotive hauling the train from Cromer through to Holt. These special dining services will start from Sheringham and will be priced at £55 per person. The seats are now on sale and are bookable on line through the NNR website. The trains will depart for the full round trip at 12.00 for the lunch service and 17.00 for the tea trains. Norfolk Jazz
Congratulations to Tom Clay-Harris. Tom has just graduated from a BMus jazz course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and will be playing at The Hub, Sheringham Little Theatre, on Sunday 17 July from 7.30pm. A talented young trumpet player from Norfolk, he has already stamped his mark on the jazz scene. He played with the Norwich Student Jazz Orchestra between 2006 and 2012 has been part of the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra since 2012. During his time in Scotland, he has become a respected figure in Glasgow for his lyrical and beautifully considered style. Tom cites Thad Jones, Miles Davies and Tom Harrell amongst his major influences. His programme will be a combination of familiar standards and originals. Working with Tom, who will be playing trumpet and flugelhorn, will be Simon Brown (piano), Ivars Galenieks (bass) and Brian McAllister (drums). They don’t come much better!
The success of jazz at The Hub has encouraged Theatre Director, Debbie Thompson, to continue the programme throughout the summer and there will be two dates in August. It is important to note, however, that they will be on Monday nights instead of the usual Sunday evenings.
On Monday 8 August the Norfolk Jazz Quartet returns to the Hub and will be playing swinging jazz standards and music from the American Song Book. Tim Densham (clarinet and saxophones), Peter Gregory (guitar), Liz Underdown (bass), Vic Brown (drums).
On Monday 29 August Simon Brown will be playing a programme from his eclectic repertoire with Jose Canha (bass) and Alex Best (drums). Simon works with a range of top British

Henleys Residential opening in mid-July Cromer
Cromer's newest Estate Agent is opening in mid July at 15 West St, Cromer, in the office formerly occupied by Harrisons Estate Agents. Henleys Residential is owned and run by highly experienced business partners Ryan Ratcliffe and Jeff Cox. Ryan and Jeff are North Norfolk born and bred and know the local area and demographic "like the back of their hands". Both Ryan and Jeff have previously worked for a local award winning estate agent and also larger corporate agents, so have acquired vast knowledge of the industry, especially in North Norfolk.
During their time with their previous employer, Jeff and Ryan were pivotal to selling the highest number of properties in the Cromer area compared to other Cromer based agents and in the last two years (statistics provided by Rightmove) they built an enviable reputation as the one of the most respected agents in the area.
"We pride ourselves on providing an exceptional, personal and bespoke service to all clients," commented Jeff. "We will operate 7 days-a-week and will work to all our client's timescales."
Ryan added, "We are very happy to do out-of-hours valuations and viewings (even on Sundays) to ensure every property will be exposed to as many potential buyers as possible to achieve the best possible price."
In addition to sales, Henleys has a lettings department looking after all aspects of lettings, whether you are a tenant looking for a home or a landlord looking for an exceptional management service. "We will use old fashioned marketing skills and the most up-to-date technology alongside Internet, radio and local advertising to ensure no stone is left unturned to find your perfect buyer or tenant," Ryan continued. Jeff concluded, "Our ethos is simple Exceed our client's expectations, provide exceptional value for money and give the best service at all times to make buying, selling or letting your property as easy as possible."
The health and fitness classes are designed to support people who have trouble doing standing exercise or who enjoy a gentle work-out while sitting down.
Cllr Becky Palmer Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said “These classes are great to get you stronger, fitter and healthier - and you’re having fun at the same time. I would encourage anyone to have a go at seated exercise – it’s great for people of any age and any level of fitness.”
Call Jeff or Ryan at Henleys Residential on 01263-511111 to discuss your selling or rental requirements or view their website www.henleysea.co.uk for more details.
The exercise classes are at: • Holt Library Mondays 10am -10.45am • Cromer Library Thursdays 2pm - 2.45pm • Sheringham Library Fridays 2pm - 2.45pm
