Swim Safe - don’t get caught in a Rip
Advice issued by the RNLI Happisburgh following the tragic events at the end of July at Sea Palling.
Rip Currents are strong currents running out to sea. They can take you from the shallows very quickly and leave you out of your depth.
If you are caught in a Rip: • Stay calm, don’t panic • If you can stand, wade – don’t try to swim • If you have an inflatable or board, keep hold of it to help you float • Raise your hand and shout for help loudly • Don’t swim directly against the Rip or you will get exhausted • Swim parallel to the beach until free of the Rip, then make for the shore

Tragic call out at Sea Palling
Happisburgh R.N.L.I. Lifeboat Station volunteers were called into action at 11:30am, when the pagers sounded. Two crews were on Station and afloat by 11:40am. The Spirit of Berkhamsted, the Station’s D Class, with Charlotte Siely at the helm and Tim Grimmer and Martin Gibbs as crew and the Atlantic 75 (Joan Mary) with Tony Phenix as helm and Will Baker and Gabby Hawker as crew. Reports were that two people had been pulled unconscious from the sea at Sea Palling with unknown other casualties. The D Class arrived 9 minutes later between Reefs 3 & 4, Sea Palling and the boat was run ashore and all the crew went to the aid of the two unconscious casualties. The Atlantic searched the sea for any other persons in the water before putting Tony Phenix ashore to help with casualties. There was one unconscious male, but breathing; the second male was also unconscious but not breathing
for himself (and subsequently did not survive). There was an off-duty doctor and fireman working together with RNLI Lifeguards, trying to preserve life. There were two other minor casualties with ’near drowning’ symptoms also being attended to . It appears that the four were swimming between the beach and the reef, when they were caught by a rip tide; a young male, aged approximately 14 had gone into the water and pulled the two unconscious casualties onto the beach, while others called for help. An Air Ambulance landed on the beach and worked with the Lifeboat crew, then the Humber Coastguard helicopter landed, followed by a second Air Ambulance with Coastguards and other emergency services. The unconscious, but breathing casualty, was taken by Air Ambulance to Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. The two casualties with ‘near drowning’ symptoms were taken by Ambulance to hospital.
Sheringham Lifeboat ‘The Oddfellows’ B 818
Service Launch – Saturday 23rd July 2016 At the request of Humber Coastguard Sheringham lifeboat was launched at 15.00 hrs to go to the assistance of the 6metre motor cruiser BLACK HAWK which had run aground at Salthouse after her engine had failed. The lifeboat crew discussed the options with the local coastguard team on scene but as the cruiser was high and dry decided to two wait for the water to flow before taking her in tow. She was eventually towed off the beach at 18.00 hrs and gradually towed toward Blakeney and over the bar into the pit where they waited for the tide to flow up the cut to Morston. A local boat WHITE SPRAY offered to tow the casualty up the cut and the L/B handed over the tow at 19.25 hrs and returned to station.

The other casualty was transferred to an Ambulance by Happisburgh D Class. The crew sorted out their equipment and returned to Station, being ready for service at 3pm. This was the first call-out for both Martin Gibbs and Gabby Walker, also the first time Charlotte Siely had helmed the D Class on a call-out. Senior Helmsman, Tim Grimmer said “The 14yr-old boy was very brave and quickthinking and gave the two men the best chance of survival but he could have been the third casualty. If you see someone in trouble in the sea or any water call 999 and ask for the Coastguard; avoid entering the water yourself”.
Service Launch – Wednesday 27th July 2016 Whilst on a training exercise at sea, and at the request of Humber Coastguard, Sheringham Lifeboat was diverted to the beach at Weybourne to offer some timely advice and help to four persons (2 adults and 2 children) who were body boarding and swimming in the light surf. Some people in the Military Museum at Muckleburgh (who were local to Weybourne) had seen the visitors and also noted the Lifeboat at sea and were concerned enough to phone the coastguard and suggest that the Lifeboat should intervene and advise the visitors that this particular beach was not suitable for these activities. The Lifeboat crew spent some minutes speaking with and politely advising the visitors about the intrinsic safety of lifeguard managed beaches in the area where all activity can be observed. This advice was well received.

Whole Baked Mackerel the potato with nothing more than a gentle flourish of the right thumb. Pure magic. Do come in and see us soon for dinner – or afternoon tea, served from 2.30 – 4.30pm Monday to Saturday (booking essential!)
We’re well into the summer now and the garden is throwing fresh, beautiful produce at us at 100mph, almost too much to keep up with! The highlight as always are John’s magnificent new potatoes, a triumph of modern engineering, absolutely delicious with a nutty, smooth bouquet and a delicate yet overwhelming finish. Perfect with a little bit of salted butter (and a couple of Davies’ massive Cromer lobsters of course).
John once brought a whole pail in, only to find an hour later one of the kitchen porters hacking away at them with a potatoes peeler. After the explosion had subsided the poor KP received a tutorial in the simple art of rubbing the skins off
1 whole mackerel 1 lemon 100g new potatoes 50g chopped dill Splash white wine 50g butter Parsley Salt and pepper
Take the mackerel and snip off all the fins using a pair of scissors, leaving the head and tail on. Place in a piece of baking paper 30cm2 Finely chop the herbs and add on top of the fish, together with five slices of lemon. Add a slice of white wine, butter, salt and pepper. Place the samphire on top.
Take each corner of the baking paper and fold into the middle, taking care that all the ingredients are covered. Wrap the whole parcel in tin foil and place on a baking tray. Cook in the oven on 180degC for 15-20 minutes. Serve with the delicious new potatoes!

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER SILVER & WARD WARD SOLICITORS? SOLICITORS?
My details are Diane Evans 01263 823889. Thank you
“It’s a common misconception that a larger firm is better.”
I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor, qualified Family Mediator and Collaborative solicitor.
As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. The common misconception is that a larger local firm or city firm is better but this is incorrect. A client just pays more.
When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I am one of the few solicitors that offffers a free first appointment so that clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision.
I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 0 1263 8 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk 01263 823465

Pirate Hook’s holiday horror
Even the baddest of baddies needs a break sometimes, me hearties! But when evil storybook pirate Capt Hook takes a holiday at Sheringham to get some sun into his shivering timbers … his plundering past begins to catch up with him. The result is a swashbuckling fun show for children at the town's Little Theatre as a summer prequel to Hook's return in the Peter Pan panto later in the year. Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: "We had the idea of Hook wanting a holiday from pirating, so he can enjoy a rest and read a good book. But the captain finds othe pirates have also booked into the resort to take a break from their storylines.” The result is Hook's Horrendous Holiday, a 40-minute show for youngsters aged from four to 10, with members of the little theatre youth group also in the cast.
Norwich-born Neil's first job after leaving Thorpe St Andrew High school was as an apprentice cabinetmaker at Arthur Brett and Sons. But performing had always been a passion - in school shows and in a series of bands from punk to funk, and he decided to study theatre to help his stage skills. After a three year degree at Dartington College of Arts he joined Tiebreak Theatre in Norfolk doing touring shows and workshops. He was Norwich Playhouse education officer but, aged 34, he was keen to get back on stage and headed off to London to study contemporary dance.
Capt Hook enjoying his holiday at Sheringham
The show is at 2.30pm on August 20, 26 and 27. And there is treasure hidden away - with a special golden ticket to meet the Panto cast at Christmas.
For more information and to book tickets call the box office on 01263 822347 or visit www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com Who is Hook? The role of Captain James Hook will be played in both shows by Norfolk born performer Neil Paris. The 48-year-old is a freelance dance theatre artist, who acts, choreographs and teaches.
Have you ever thought of tracing your Family Tree? Is there a family story that you want to find out about? Do you just want to find out about your ancestors? Then I can help
He said: "Hook is a villain, who are always good fun to play. The role is physical, there is song and I love interaction with the audience."

Neil joined the Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, whose shows included a modern version of Giselle at the Barbican in London, as well as tours across the world to Australia and the USA. After returning to Norfolk Neil

created SMITH Dancetheatre, taking an original work Agnes and Walter - a Little Love Story to the Edinburgh Festival, with a cast aged 26 to 78.
He has also been teaching, including dance workshops at the Little Theatre. In his spare time, Neil enjoys putting his woodworking skills to good use by restoring furniture, as well as walking and bird watching - including the footballing Canaries.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
We have now been running our special £5 neutering campaign for more than a year and many people have taken up the offer. Although this does mean there will be less unwanted kittens being born there are still too many out there needing to come into care and being offered for sale. We usually ask the person where they obtained their cat/kitten to see if we can offer assistance to other cats/kittens from the same family. Very often they have been obtained from websites and the people concerned often comment on the poor condition of their new pet and the place it has come from. Looking on line, we are amazed at the claims being made by the people who advertise there and know that these websites are working with other organisations to investigate the claims being made by the sellers and also identify people who are selling cats and kittens for profit.
Some cats and kittens are advertised as pedigree crosses when it is obvious they are not. Some also charge a higher amount for kittens of a certain colour which leads us to believe they could possibly be letting their cats have kittens to make money. To us, the colour of the cat is not important; it is far more important to ensure it is healthy and what its character and temperament is. So often we find it is ‘the little black kitten’ in the litter that charms us all and is the one we would love to offer a home to.
Adverts for kittens very often state they are litter trained. Although you may find the odd kitten might need to be encouraged to use a litter tray, the

majority will find their way there without any guidance from the mother or their carers. Claims are also made that the cat/kitten has been treated for fleas and worms but so often people tell us that it is not the case. Mention of vaccinating, micro chipping and being checked by a vet to ensure they are healthy are very rare indeed but very important.
Although you may not get your cat or kitten from us we do hope that this information will help ensure that you give a home to a healthy, well adjusted animal and you are not encouraging someone to breed kittens for profit. We will continue to run our neutering campaign and in time we do hope this will mean there are less cats and kittens out there, unwanted and needing our help to find loving new homes.
If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign. Alternatively you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered

Get set for summer with Animal Magic Dog Club Now that the warmer weather is finally here, we are all looking forward to enjoying the summer but please remember that dogs can suffer from the same problems that we do from over exposure to the sun. This includes dehydration, sunburn and heatstroke - which can be fatal.
Here are our Animal Magic top tips for a safe summer with your dog: • Don’t leave your dog in the car – even in the shade with windows open the temperature can soar turning your car into an oven very quickly. Remember - dogs die in hot cars. • Try to walk your dog in the cool of the morning or evening and if you really must walk at lunchtime choose a sheltered lane or wood. Never allow your dog to exercise excessively in hot weather. • Consider having your dog’s coat clipped for the summer, most breeds seem to really appreciate this. • Your dog will enjoy a shady spot to lie in but during the hottest part of the day they might be more comfortable indoors. • If your dog goes off their food try to feed them later in the evening when
it is cooler and you will usually find their appetite returns. • Make sure your dog always has a supply of clean drinking water. Always carry water with you on hot days, and give your dog frequent small amounts. • Most dogs enjoy a paddle, swim or game with the hosepipe. It’ll help them keep cool, but after fun in the water always dry their ears and under collars to avoid irritations. but most of all enjoy a fun and safe summer with your dog!
Animal Magic Dog Club based near North Walsham is a fun, family orientated club offering a wide range of training for puppies, junior and adult dogs. For more information on the club and classes available please call Kathy on 01263 720730 or visit our web site www.animal-magix.co.uk

We do not shy away from the old…the broken…the wonky or the damaged and our determination to help is not thwarted by geographical boundaries. We endeavour to fix what is broken…find homes for the homeless and be a voice for the voiceless. We strongly believe that every life deserves a chance and where there is life there is hope. Peter’s daredevil wing walk brings over £1000 to About With Friends Peter White is a member of the Cromer-based charity About with Friends, who support adults with learning disabilities.
Peter works in their Community Shop in Garden Street twice a week and attends social activities with the group. When he heard that they needed to replace their ageing minibus with a new one, Peter decided he wanted to do something for the organisation that supports him. He had already parachuted out of a plane to raise money for another charity but this time Peter chose to be strapped to the top wing of a biplane and fly over the Gloucestershire countryside.
Peter admits he was very nervous about making the wing walk and almost dropped out especially when the first date was cancelled due to a poor weather forecast. However, when the day came, Peter rose to the challenge and rose to the skies.
Afterwards Peter joked that if he ever suggested wing-walking again he wanted someone to shoot him in the leg! His incredible effort has so far earned £1100 for About with Friends and sponsorship money is still coming in.
About with Friends is a fun, active and energetic charity based in Cromer. We offer children, young people and adults with learning disabilities the chance to lead the lives they choose. When they become part of our family they have opportunities to develop lasting friendships, engage in fun and active social activities, get involved in the community, have the chance to try new experiences, learn new skills both for life and work but above all feel a valued part of society while enjoying life to the full.

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS *10% offer for cash payments only
On July the 13th a pack of lions and a herd of elephants could be heard roaring and stomping through St Andrew’s Church in Holt. The music from Carnival of the Animals by composer Saint-Saens was reverberating around the stunning and atmospheric setting of the church on more than one occasion.
At lunchtime a concert was performed in front of some select, and rather mesmerised, children from five local primary schools – Holt, Gresham Village, Roughton, Langham Village and The Belfry in Overstrand – as a result, of a two month project that has seen those five schools participate in art, poetry and music workshops that have been organised by local, not for profit, arts organisation FALCON and part funded by the Arts Council, Norfolk County Council and FALCON themselves. Professional artists, writers and musicians went into schools during this period and inspired the children to submit work for the FALCON art and poetry prizes.
The concert was performed by Parnassus, a group of extremely talented and eclectic musicians, led by renowned conductor Peter Stark. In the evening they extended the concert to bedazzle and enchant an audience of adults who were no less mesmerised by the wonderful music.
A celebration of the wonderful artwork from the two month project, can be seen at three local libraries Holt, Sheringham and Cromer, and also at St Andrew’s church during Holt Festival week. (Indeed every piece of art produced can be seen in one or other of these exhibitions over the summer). The culmination of the project will be at St Andrew’s
Sheringham Independent 445
church on Thursday the 28th of July with a prize giving for both the arts and poetry prizes.
The project was supported and sponsored by many local businesses, including Watsons, The Red Dot Gallery, Kings and Barnhams, Picturecraft, Thaxters and Gresham school as well as by the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to put on this wonderful artistic spectacle.
act to top, that Parnassus lot! But then why should we even think we might want to top that. It’s not a competition. It’s an on-going feast and every course brings its own delights and deep, fulfilling satisfactions.
Oboist Emily Ross is coming to St Andrew’s church in Holt on Saturday the 6th August. Emily is flying in from Koln in Germany, where she now lives and works, and bringing with her Seif El Sin Sherif, a pianist who, born in Egypt, is currently studying in Amsterdam. As usual pre-concert drinks are available, as well as in the interval.

Keeping it in the Family By Miranda Marshall – Director at Hayes + Storr
Looking after one’s elderly, incapable or vulnerable family members is natural and has happened forever. Many would consider it outside the interference of the legal system. Being paid within the family has always taken place on an informal basis, especially where someone has given up work to look after a relative and needs money to live on whilst they do so.
These days ‘Family Care Payments’ (FCPs) or ‘gratuitous care payments’ are the formal terms for such arrangements. The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) has increasingly been requiring Deputies to seek authorisation to such packages. Its approach in the past has been over-zealous. The OPG has recently published useful guidance in the form of a practice note setting out the legal framework and the OPG’s approach to such payments. This applies only to Court of Protection appointed Deputies under a Finance and Property Order. It does not yet apply to the same sort of arrangements made in other circumstances.
When family members provide informal care for an individual lacking mental-capacity, it may involve anything from small scale care or providing companionship, to full-time care. The kind of care arrangement that might justify a FCP includes situations where there would not normally be any formal contractual
relationship between the person and the family member providing care, as that care is given out of their natural love and affection.
The new guidance explains the OPG’s position on FCPs that Deputies make to such family members who provide care. It defines the arrangements and sets out the Deputy’s authority to make payments; including factors to consider when agreeing and calculating such payments. The OPG considered that FCPs can be in the person’s best interests, providing the FCP is properly set up and managed. The care must be of a good standard and required by the person in question. Guidance is provided as to increases in payments and record keeping.
Matters to be taken into account include: the care actually given, affordability, other contributions made to household upkeep, savings on the cost of commercial care and the overall family situation. Other family members should be consulted, wherever possible.
Although not applicable to those with Lasting or Enduring Powers of Attorney (LPAs and EPAs), the note is useful to families making best-interests decisions in similar situations. In the 2015 case of Re HNL Senior Judge Lush lifted reporting restrictions and set in motion the issue of this guidance. In that case he commended the family on the ‘exemplary care’ which was provided on a ‘significantly
cheaper’ basis than commercial care. Previously, he had held that the rate paid should be no more than the going commercial care but with a 20% reduction, largely to reflect the fact that no income tax is payable on FCPs. Inflation-proofing was authorised in advance so as to reduce the cost of returning to Court for a review.
It is good to see such a common-sense approach to an age-old situation.

Dear Margaret,
I wonder if you could find room on your letters page for my attached photo and poem I wrote to draw attention to the overgrown and rubbish filled Beck on Back Common. It has been a particularly overgrown and neglected place this year. It seems it only gets attention when the 'duck race' takes place once a year. This is The Beck that used to run clear, These are the weeds that are left to grow here. Here is some litter, and there some dog mess, Left by the people who couldn't care less. There are some residents doing their best To keep the place tidy, overwhelmed by the rest. No one will say that the problem is theirs, Councils won't own up to just who should care. Once it was free of the debris and muck But despite endless phone calls they all pass the buck. And so it goes on and the problem gets worse And that's why I sat down and wrote you this verse. For those people who care and are doing their best, I thank you and hope that others will learn to respect the environment and space around their own homes, and do a little more (if physically able) to keep their patch at least, free from rubbish and weeds. In the meantime why can't those doing Community Service be given the job of keeping our Commons and wild places clean. It wouldn't be taking anyone's job away. After all no one is being paid to do it anyway. Thank you - resident of Curtis Lane. Name and address supplied
Dear Margaret,
Do hope you are enjoying this warm weather - how is the little dog in this weather? Lovely weekend weather for the Raft Race and the sea too was perfect, for a change! All the holidaymakers must be enjoying our lovely coast. Herewith the small article for the Ladies Association and thank you so much for getting all my last epistle in line, don't know why it turned out like that!
Our last Meeting before we break for the Summer was on 19 July when we were entertained by Nick Conrad from BBC Radio Norfolk. This was very well attended by an audience of ladies and gentlemen and Nick gave us such an amazing insight into his job. He starts his day almost at sunrise but only has the news given to him seconds before going on air. He is a most eloquent speaker, charming and so interesting and we all thoroughly enjoyed listening to him. A young man who is destined to go far in his career and how very proud his Grandma must be of him as she sat in the audience. We do hope Nick will come back again to tell us more.
Our next Meeting will be on 13 September which is a bring and share meeting, and we hope that we will be able to welcome some new members to our Group which is now in the 46th year! For any information, please contact Anne Barker on 01263 824887
Dear Margaret,
May I, on behalf of the StitchTogether Sewing Group, thank all the local people and visitors who supported our sale of handicrafts outside Keys Estate Agents on Saturday 23rd July.
The sum of £427.50 was raised for the Big 'C', our charity for this year. Fund raising is on-going.
Sincere thanks to all.

Dear Margaret,
I read with interest the article on pedestrianisation of the centre of Sheringham suggested by Ms Judy Oliver in 7 july North Norfolk News. I have seldom disagreed more.
We would be deprived of at least 20+ parking places. That would really give people an incentive to linger in town - we only get 2 hours to park free in the summer at our wonderfull Tesco’s - is this another attempt to bring in parking charges by the back door?
What we need in Sheringham is a one way system entering the town over the railway bridge down Church Street then High Street, Wyndham Street, Beeston Road to mini roundabout on Cromer Road. The market could be relocated to Station Road on Wednesday and Saturday thereby increasing car parking on the main car park and greater footfall in Station Road, a benefit to all. Parking would be on one side with a 20mph speed limit - this would not interrupt deliveries etc.
Yours sincerely, Graham McEvoy, Sheringham

At the last meeting of the society the speaker, Shelagh Ashe, talked about colour in the garden including advice on how to combine and contrast colours of flowers, leaves, stems and fruit to set the mood of a bed or border. She illustrated the talk with many beautiful slides of flowers and gardens.
• Adjacent colours - Use three adjacent colours to create a harmonious effect. For example, red, orange and yellow.
• Opposites - The most striking combinations are complementary colours that lie directly opposite each other: red and green, purple and yellow. You can use complementary pairs as great accent colour, for example, a single purple –flowered plant in a bed of yellow.
• Contrasts – Based on colours spaced at equal distances around the colour wheel, contrasts work best in groups of three, for example, red, blue and yellow, or purple, green and orange.
It is up to personal taste of course but as a rule of thumb up to five colours can be contrasted before it gets too much for the

Inner Wheel
The Cromer & Sheringham Inner Wheel ladies met during the summer at The Virginia Court Hotel for the monthly meetings and AGM. We all enjoyed a garden party to celebrate The Queens 90th birthday at member Jane's home at Kelling Heath. Jane provided good food and lovely summer weather. On July 13th we all met at Hamptons Restaurant in Bawdswell to say thank you to our president Carol for all she has done this year; Shay presented her with a gift and flowers. Carol then thanked everyone for all the support she had Maureen Ford MBE (standing) received during the and Sybil Taylor, members of the club. year and said that £425 had been raised for her chosen charity The Big C. Our next Social event will be a barbecue on 20th August at Rita Holland's home – this is the president’s gift to us to say thank you.
The next Club meeting will be on September 1st when Carol Selwyn will continue to be President for the coming year. We share a meal together at the Virginia Court Hotel in Cromer each month with a guest speaker afterwards. We have a lot of fun, enjoy fellowship and try to support those in need in this country and abroad. Our membership is open to any women who would be interested in joining us. Sheringham Museum – Pokémon Gym Now Open with free WiFi access for trainers and collectors
The Sheringham Museum is delighted to announce that it is a Gym location on the popular mobile game “Pokémon Go”.
To celebrate this, the museum is offering a free ‘Poké – WiFi Pass’ to visitors to the museum so that they can catch, train and battle their Pokémon in the ‘Poké –Gym’ during their visit to the museum.
The Museum discovered it was a Poké-Gym when two young visitors came into the museum last month clutching their mobile phones hunting Pokémon. Being in North Norfolk the mobile coverage in Sheringham is notoriously bad so getting mobile data coverage can be difficult. This meant that the young visitors were struggling to get an internet connection to complete their game.
The museum offers WiFi access to visitors and
has produced a special ‘Poké – WiFi Pass’ card to allow Pokémon hunters the chance to connect to a stable wi-fi data connection during their visit around the museum, allowing them to battle their Pokémon and train in the ‘gym’ facilities at the museum therefore avoiding the poor mobile phone coverage in the town.
Nearby there are plenty of ‘Poké – Stops’, allowing players to gather items such as eggs, Pokéballs and incense. The seaside art trail along the promenade outside the museum has four Poké-stops, with almost all of Colin Seal’s wall art murals featuring on the virtual trail. Currently the museum gym is controlled by the yellow ‘team Instinct’ but as all ‘Pokémon trainers’ know, the gyms can easily change teams depending on the battles fought and won in them. You need to be a level 5 skill or above to train your Pokémon at the gym.
Royal Air Forces Association Sheringham & District Branch – Annual Reception
Courtesy of Mrs Pamela Keys MBE the local branch of the Royal Air Forces Association held their Annual Reception at Cley Old Hall. On a warm summers evening just over 30 Members and Guests attended for drinks and a buffet. Branch President, Air Commodore Tom Benson RAF (retd) and Chairman, Air Commodore Jack Broughton RAF (retd) both said a few words and Committee Member, Sandy Brown presented Mrs Keys with a bouquet in appreciation. A fine evening rounded off with a ‘flypast’ by the USAF!
Buy 10 Beef Steak Burgers
Museum Manager Philip Miles said “It was a surprise when two young visitors came into the museum with their family hunting Pokémon. We had no idea that the museum was a Poké-Gym but were happy to help out when the mobile data connection in
Sheringham failed them in their quest to catch and train Pokémon here. We hope that visitors to the museum hunting and training Pokémon will also take time to look at our exhibits and the War Knitting exhibition!”
WiFi passes will be issued to any Pokémon trainers who pay to go around the museum and request access to the special museum Pokémon Gym WiFi. The tower at the museum has an uncanny resemblance to the virtual gym structure on the game minus the ‘Magmar’ of course. A great place to have a Pokémon battle and enjoy the view!

Kelling Probus Club July meeting
Kelling Probus Club held its July meeting at The Dales Hotel Upper Sheringham on 21st of this month, 25 members and two guests attended and enjoyed a good and sociable lunch. After lunch the guest speaker was Gerard Core who spoke about his father Rene Noyau who was a famous writer from Mauritius, who was also known as Rene Core and by several other pen names. Gerard told us that he really only got to know his father in later life, as his parents Mike Harrison BSc (Hons) RSCT DipISRM were separated soon after he was born. However he found that his father had been a prolific poet, registered practitioner a surrealist and a writer.

His father had been a writer for Mauritian newspapers a supporter of independence, and a great promoter of the Creole language, his writings in Creole would often encourage people to study and further their lives. Rene also had a period of life when he was an artist and continued to write up to his death in 1984. Gerard his son was left a lot of his literary works, many unpublished and in time realized what a collection he had got. In 2011 with the help of the Mauritian government he published the first of several volumes of his fathers work. After his talk and questions he was thanked by Norman Barnes for a very interesting talk.
Kelling Probus Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Dales Hotel and welcomes new members ,the meetings are sociable and friendly and the talks are usually very informative. Membership is open to retired business men and similar people.Costs of membership are low and there is no fund raising commitments . Holt Probus - Life Inside
Although some members of Holt and District Probus Club are former policemen and there are one or two ex-lawyers, it is fair to say that few of them really understand what life in prison is like. Watching re-runs of ‘Porridge’ does not really do justice!
New insight was given by Mrs Joolz Saunders, a prison chaplain for some years. Prisons are required to have chaplains available to prisoners of each faith - be they Christians, Jews, Muslims, Rastafarians or whatever. Joolz ministered to Quakers - there are separate chaplains for Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists, and all others - some on a part-time basis and some ‘shared‘ between two or more prisons, depending on demand.
Joolz called her talk ‘Life Inside’. She said that every prisoner on admission is asked to state their religion, and each one then gets visited by the chaplain to their faith. They are invited to attend worship in the non-denominational prison chapel - though this presents problems when there are not enough prison staff to accompany prisoners from their cells. On those occasions, it was often possible to use an empty room on the prison wing for devotional purposes. Chaplains are called upon to give support to prisoners at times of crisis - another less pleasant task is to accompany the Prison Governor when it is necessary to inform a next of kin about the death of a prisoner.

District Council-nominated building site supervisor wins coveted award Martin Weavers has won the regional round of the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Site Supervisor of the Year Award after being nominated by North Norfolk District Council. Martin works for Norfolk Homes and was recognised for his outstanding work as site supervisor during work for 145 dwellings in Roughton Road, Cromer in partnership with NNDC.
Cllr Sue Arnold Cabinet Member for planning policy said “Our building team was incredibly impressed by Martin- the way he understood the facets of the job, the potential and actual challenges and his consideration of the bigger picture. His positive and can-do attitude was noted by everyone who worked with him. This is a well-deserved award and we can only wish Martin the very best of luck as he now goes through to the national awards later this year.

Is your Tattoo stopping you from moving forward in life? Would you like to have it removed in a painless, scar less way with the latest technology? Look no further… the answer is right here…
In many parts of the world greater than 15% of adults have tattoos. It is estimated that 50% of those receiving tattoos will want to have them removed within 10 years of their application. Tattoos can have negative associations and can be a hindrance in obtaining certain jobs. Whatever the reason, the best technology for tattoo removal in now available.
Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic have announced the arrival of a new high powered laser.
“The last few years have been very exciting for us and we have continued to invest in training and education and to add new services to our treatment menu”, says practice manager Trish. “We already have 16 different lasers in addition to other state-of-the-art devices. Now we have added another Q-switched Nd-Yag laser ‘ the gold-standard tattoo removal laser’ which will help us remove most colours in tattoos, but also treat people with deeper pigmentation and sun spots”.
What methods of Tattoo Removal are available? We must stress that older methods of tattoo removal are now outdated and have been replaced by better technology. These methods included dermabrasion, chemical peels, destruction of tattoo ink by various forms of injectable substances. These methods used to remove the part of skin with the tattoo! The results were less than desirable due to unacceptable scarring and poor cosmetic outcome.
Why are Q switched Tattoo Removal lasers so good? Q switched lasers produce very high powered and short nanosecond one billionth of a second] pulses of light that shatter and disperse pigment particles without damaging the skin. Consequently ink particles are removed and surrounding skin is not damages. This dramatically reduces the risk of scarring.

Is the Laser Tattoo Removal treatment painful? We use a local anaesthetic to numb the skin so our patients do not find the treatment painful.
Is the Laser Tattoo Removal treatment permanent? Yes. Dr Sanjay Gheyi MBBS MS FRCS FP Cert. BCAAM, Medical Director and Laser Surgeon of Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic has many years experience with IPL and lasers. He specialises in ‘no downtime’ gentle laser facials to more invasive laser resurfacing procedures and ‘knifeless’ laser surgery for lumps, bumps and skin tags in addition to botox, dermal fillers and leg vein treatments.

North Norfolk District Council supports Great British High Street competition Council encourages communities to enter villages and towns into competition celebrating great work being done to boost UK’s high streets
The Great British High Street competition recognises steps being taken to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets and is an opportunity for businesses, community groups and volunteers to learn from experts.
Last year’s competition, run by the Department for Communities and Local Government, saw a record-breaking 230 entries and attracted over 200,000 public votes. With new categories and new prizes, including the chance to win up to £ 10,000 each, the organisers expect even more entries this year.
North Norfolk District Cllr Nigel Dixon Cabinet Member for Business and Economic Development said “I would urge everyone to get involved to showcase the hard work of our local communities in keeping North Norfolk’s high streets thriving.
“We have so many great independent shops and businesses making our district a superb place to live, trade and shop. This is a great opportunity for that to be recognised and for businesses-owners, managers and employees to be supported.
As well as the cash prize, winners will also receive dedicated support and mentoring from industry experts that could range from one-to-one coaching to advice on digital marketing.

Council gallery hosts new exhibition
THE
MILITARY COLLECTION Weybourne, Norfolk, England NR25 7EH 01263 588210
www.muckleburgh.co.uk
North Norfolk District Council’s public art gallery is showcasing a new exhibition of animal portraits by local artist Alison Argent. The new exhibition uses pastels to capture the likeness and personality of a series of pets.
Alison said “I have been combining my love of art with my love of animals to produce portraits in pastels, a favourite medium that I find especially suitable for capturing the qualities of animals.”
Alison has lived and worked in Norfolk for over 30 years, moving here from Leicester. With a passion for drawing and painting, and achieving a Foundation Course at Loughborough College of Art and Design, Alison has recently returned to creating animal portraits. She added “My aim is to produce not just a picture of an animal but a portrait of a particular animal, capturing its likeness and character.”
Capturing Characters: An exhibition of animal portraits in pastel opens July 19 and runs at NNDC’s gallery until August 19.

NNDC seeks to offer free opportunities to local artists to display their work in the 1st Floor Gallery in the Council’s Holt Road offices in Cromer. Currently six exhibitions are held annually. Cllr Becky Palmer Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said “It’s great to be able to offer artists a space to exhibit their works. It is often the boost they need to gain a wider audience. Capturing Characters is a super collection of pictures and we are pleased to be able to host them.”

Cromer based charity, About with Friends, have benefitted to the tune of £1250 by being the chosen charity for this year’s Charles Clarke Classic Car Rally. The event, which took place on Sunday 10th July, involved some 80 classic cars driving from the Goat Inn at Skeyton to the Cathedral in Norwich, where they were viewed by hundreds of visitors.

The Rally is in its 22nd year and was named for a car enthusiast who died in a boating accident in 1998. For the past eight years it has been organised by Brian Monks with the help of his family and friends. Brian is pictured presenting the cheque to About with Friends’ member Tony Edwards who acted as a marshal at the event. Other members and Brian’s family are also pictured.
The rally was also a social activity for a group from the charity who enjoyed looking at such classic vehicles as a Stanley Steam carriage and an Austin Healey.
Fittingly, the donation will be used towards funding a new minibus for the organisation. Karen Funnell, who represented About with Friends at the Rally, said that the old minibus was quickly heading towards Classic status and any contributions towards a new one would be eagerly received.
About With Friends is a fun, active and energetic charity based in Cromer. We offer children, young people and adults with learning disabilities the chance to lead the lives they choose. When they become part of our family they have opportunities to develop lasting friendships; engage in fun and active social activities; get involved in the community; have the chance to try new experiences; learn new skills both for life and work; but above all feel a valued part of society while enjoying life to the full.

Norwich City's Championship Campaign
Norwich City pre-season so far and transfers update by Joel Lodge
After the stress of a tough season in the Premier league last year, the Norwich City squad re-grouped in late June to prepare for the promotion battle in the Championship next year. After a 6-week break for all the players who didn’t play at the Euro’s the players have come back looking quite fresh after judging the opening friendlies of pre-season. Norwich started off their pre-season campaign in positive fashion with a 2-1 win in a behind closed doors friendly vs. Walsall, followed by a 3-0 win away at a rather poor Peterborough side. Norwich then travelled to their weeklong training camp in Austria with 2 friendly matches against FK Dukla Prague and Rubin Kazan respectively. The first
game of the Austrian tour was against Dukla Prague, which unfortunately ended in 3-1 loss for Norwich against the well drilled Croatian side. Against Rubin Kazan however, Norwich fared better as they managed to beat the Russian side 2-1 in what was a well-fought victory against the 2 time Russian champions. As for the transfer window, Norwich have only sold two players in this transfer window with Nathan Redmond being sold to Southampton at the start of the transfer window for 11 million pounds and Jake Kean going to Sheffield Wednesday, the highest transfer fee Norwich have ever received for a player. After the sales of Redmond and Kean, Norwich needed a new right
winger and a new goalkeeper to provide competition with John Ruddy and Declan Rudd; this is why Liverpool youngster Sergi Canos came in to replace Redmond after starring on loan at Brentford in the Championship last season and the young winger comes in with a high reputation and a lot of promise as he will attempt to fill the void left by Redmond, meanwhile, Jake Kean has been replaced by the hero of Northern Ireland at the Euro’s, Michael McGovern who starred in particular against Germany as he put in a stellar performance in an attempt to keep Northern Ireland in the game.

“Many activities can be booked in advance, so don’t leave it too late, book today to make sure your kids have a great summer. The activities run through to the end of August. They are aimed at different age groups plus some activities for the whole family. A detailed brochure can be found at http://ow.ly/zEKR302eW58 and to book go here www.northnorfolk.org/book.
