ROUNDABOUT SUCCESS

North Norfolk District Council has welcomed the news that work to improve the Felbrigg junction will start next year.

Henry Blogg’s boat Q J and J returns to Cromer

After many years of restoration Henry Bloggs old fishing boat has returned to a prominent position overlooking the beach and within sight of the main lifeboat station.

The Q J and J is within the garden of Cromer Town Council and near to the bust of Henry Blogg. As a fitting tribute to one of the most famous lifeboat men in history, his fishing boat has been carefully restored so that future generations will be able to view it.

Unfortunately only half of the boat was in a fit enough condition to enable restoration but the remainder has been cut into smaller pieces and sold to raise money to enable the work to be carried out.

After the Mayor Tim Adams appropriately named the boat with champagne, the present coxswain John Davies - the eighth generation of his family to serve with Cromer RNLI - was pictured alongside one of his predecessors, Henry Blogg who was a distant relative.

In an announcement last month Norfolk County Council confirmed that work will start next year to improve the junction of the A148 and the B1436 at Felbrigg near Cromer after £576,000 was pledged to fund the work.

Money has been pledged by Norfolk County Council, North Norfolk District Council, Cromer Town Council, Parish Councils of Roughton, Runton and Felbrigg along with support from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, developers and local businesses.

Cllr Hilary Cox, NNDC Ward Member and Norfolk County Councillor said “After many years of hard work trying to get this scheme off the ground we have finally succeeded, thanks to the efforts of all involved. The new roundabout will make it much easier to manoeuvre through this junction, reduce accidents and encourage vehicles that do not need to stop in Cromer to bypass it and cut congestion in the town.”

Cllr Sue Arnold, NNDC Cabinet Member and Chairman of the Steps to Safety Campaign said “I’m absolutely delighted that after so many years of campaigning by the group the funding for this much needed roundabout has been found. I would like to thank all the organisations who have helped to fund the programme of work from local people, businesses and all the councils – from parishes through to the district and to the county council who have put up the lion’s share of the funding. At the end of the day it shows that people can make a real difference in their area.”

Cllr Tom FitzPatrick, Leader of North Norfolk District Council added “We have pledged our support and £29,000 to this vital safety improvement and I’m delighted that with the support of all concerned the junction will be improved. It’s really good news.”

July

The months have slipped by, it is now July. Two larks are soaring high in the sky, blue cornflowers are growing beside the stream, I could sit here all day and happily dream. A blue butterfly hovers and alights on my arm, in a moment she'll move, so I have to keep calm. I pick up my book, a grass snake slithers by, it's time to leave, and I give a sad sigh. Do you have a Will or Lasting Power of Attorney?

A Will is a legal document which sets out your last wishes by allowing you to choose who receives your belongings and assets after you die. It is essential for you to make a Will whether or not you consider you have any possessions, or much money. If you do not have a Will when you die, then the Government decides under the Intestacy Rules how your money, property, or possessions are divided. If you are living with a partner and not married, then if you die without a Will your partner cannot inherit any part of your Estate.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint a friend or family member who you trust to make decisions in respect of your finances, property, or health if you are unable to, for example, if you are in an accident, lose mental capacity, etc. If you do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney and lose mental capacity, for whatever reason, then it may put your family in a difficult financial position by not being able to access your finances or able to deal with your property.

Creamy Chicken Pasta by Ian Wales - Sous Chef at the Links

01263 824555

This is an ideal recipe that can be adapted to make it a quick and easy lunch or supper for one.

Ingredients 1 x chicken breast Drizzle of olive oil 2 gloves of garlic 01263 838383 1 sprig of rosemary (can use dried) 125g fresh tagliatelle 01263 579579 50ml white wine 300ml double cream 2 rashers of smoked bacon 50g of button mushrooms 1 x shallot (or small onion) 1 x sprig of thyme (can use dried) Firstly crush the garlic, drizzle a small amount

of olive oil in a bowl and mix with the crushed garlic with the sprig of rosemary (or a pinch of dried). Then marinate the chicken breast in this - ideally leave this for 2-3 hours in the fridge - but 20 minutes will give a taste of garlic.

Once your ready to cook your dish, using a frying pan sear the chicken with a small amount of oil in a hot pan for 2-3 minutes each side. Now place it in the oven for 10-12 minutes on 180o. In the meantime dice the shallot (or onion), slice the rashers of bacon and mushrooms. Sweat down in a pan with a small amount of oil the shallot, then add the mushrooms and bacon and reduce further.

While this is reducing add a pan of water on the stove to boil ready to blanche the pasta, season water with salt (personal preference).

Fairtrade for Sheringham

‘Experience Sheringham’ has an extra special difference this year - it has included the Fairtrade logo for all shops, businesses, cafes, etc using or selling Fairtrade products. It is an impressive list! I know The Funky Mackerel, The Coffee House Cafe, Julie's Coffee Shop, Blooming Blooms and The Kitchen were missed off the list. I am very sorry, it will be rectified next year. Did I miss anyone else?

If you would like a window sticker ‘Ask for Fairtrade here’ please contact me, and I will deliver one to you.

Brenda Smith, Fairtrade for Sheringham Group. 01263 823134 or besmith30a@gmail.com

overstrandgardencentre@btconnect.com

Now add to shallot, mushroom and bacon the white wine and cream and reduce it down to half the amount to thicken. Season to taste.

Blanche the pasta as soon as the water is to boil for 3-4 minutes if fresh pasta - allow more time if using dried.

To serve mix the pasta with the cream sauce and serve the chicken breast on top.

More volunteers needed for Cromer and District Foodbank

Having opened two new distribution centres and met more than 1000 requests for food in the last financial year, the Cromer and District Foodbank is appealing for additional volunteers. “Volunteers are the life blood of our foodbank,” says Ella King, Project Manager. “There are vacancies in the warehouse, distribution, fundraising and general admin. They all offer a chance to make a real difference to the lives of local people in financial crisis.”

Founded in 2012, the foodbank now works with over 90 partner agencies to offer food, support and signposting across 200 square miles of North Norfolk.

“125 volunteers help us get emergency food to people in real need,” Ella says. “We want people to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved.”

Anyone who might be able to help is invited to contact Ella by email info@cromerdistrict.foodbank.org.uk or telephone 07826 376343.

A statutory declaration of insolvency confirms there is no insolvency at the date of the transaction, i.e that the person making the gift can meet their liabilities as they fall due. An indemnity insurance policy is an insurance policy covering the future insolvency of the person making the gift.

Q. On average, how long does it take to carry out searches on a property? A. It very much depends on the location of the property. Most of the searches come back within 48 hours of submitting the same. It is the Local Search which takes more time, it can take anywhere between 24 hours and in some instances 6 weeks! The best way to find out the time frame is to speak to the Local Authority's land charges department to check their current turnaround time as it frequently changes.

Q. We're currently in rented accommodation, when should we tell our landlord we're moving to the property we're purchasing? A. Only advise your Landlord by serving your notice upon exchange of contracts when you are legally bound to purchase the new property. Until exchange of contracts you are not legally committed to buying the new property.

Q. Can my home buyers survey be done by anyone? I've heard that the surveyor needs to be approved by our lender? A. A homebuyers survey can either be carried out by an independent surveyor or one appointed by the lender. In any event a lender will ask that you pay for a valuation for the mortgage but a valuation is given in

80s

a homebuyers survey so you can upgrade a valuation to a homebuyers survey to save paying for the same thing twice. You should ensure the surveyor is RICS accredited. There are three levels of survey:

(a) Valuation A valuation is often carried out by a Building Society or other Mortgagee to assess the condition and value of the house but it is not a structural survey and in no way guarantees that the house is structurally sound or without defects.

(b) Home Buyers Report This is a standard form of report under guidelines laid down by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers. Such a report provides comments on the condition on the parts of the property which are readily accessible and may include recommendations for further tests or investigations. This sort of survey is normally adequate for any house which is reasonably modern.

(c) Full Structural Survey This is a more detailed examination of the property and its structure and it is advisable to have this sort of survey for older properties or for any property where there is reason to suspect that there might be a structural defect.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2016 ROALD DAHL WURDY-GURDY MACHINE

The Summer Reading Challenge is an annual event, produced by The Reading Agency and delivered by the library network across the country to inspire all children to read their choice of library books whilst collecting stickers to complete a fold - up poster.

It has become something of a tradition for our libraries across North Norfolk to join forces with the local arts organisation FALCON, or Facilitating Arts for Children of Norfolk, to put on a series of fun and creative workshops to run alongside the reading challenge to inspire and entertain the children over the course of the Summer Holidays.

After last year’s extremely successful record breaking Doodle Challenge, run by local illustrator Adam Faulconbridge, that culminated in sticky notes being draped around Cromer Pier like bunting we now turn to a more tongue twisting wordy challenge for all those would be Roald Dahl aficionados…

ARE YOU MAD ABOUT MACHINES?

ARE YOU A CARUDYFABBLE WORD INVENTOR? CAN YOU HELP FIX ROALD DAHL’S

WURDY GURDY MACHINE?

It’s a MEGNEFICACKLE CHALLENGE FOR MALI-WILLS EVERYWHERE!

Help make the machine and come up with inventive new words for the Longest Story written across North Norfolk to keep Fidgeppy Giants happy!

Roald Dahl’s fantastically impicatallated Wurdy Gurdy Machine has broken down. It’s missing parts, falling to pieces and the production of new words and ideas has come to an end.

Children under twelve are invited to come and create missing parts of the machines, inspired by the mechanisms of Heath Robinson and Wallace & Gromit, in libraries throughout North Norfolk. But this is a Wurdy Gurdy Machine so wordalkind helpers are desperately needed to make up for lost time. Help Miss Fluttlewordblurger invent new words, write poems and stories and add to the BFG’s Longest Story. If it is not finished on time the giants will go on a rampage…

The workshops are run by local writer and wordsmith Belona Greenwood and should be

the perfect anecdote for children and parents alike looking for something fun and educational to do this up and coming holiday season. We look forward to seeing you there and the reading the amazing results that come out of the Wurdy Gurdy Machine.

The time and dates for the workshops are below:

• • • • • • • •

Stalham, 10.30-11.30, Tuesday 26 July Mundesley, 14.00 - 15.00, Tuesday 26 July Holt, 10.30-11.30, Wednesday 27 July Sheringham, 10.30 - 11.30, Thursday 28 July Fakenham, 10.30 - 11.30, Friday 29 July Wells, 14.00 - 15.00, Friday 29 July North Walsham, 10-.30 - 11.10, Monday 1 August Cromer, 14.00 - 15.00, Monday 1 August

Booking is always advisable

These workshops are jointly sponsored by FALCON www.falcon-norfolk.org.uk and the Norfolk library service.

Woodfields' W-Fest 2016 a resounding success

Not even our English ‘summer' weather could put a dampener on Sheringham Woodfields' W-Fest which took place at the school on 24 June.

In true showbiz style, and with true British grit, the show carried on despite the downpour that arrived at 5pm.

The attendance at this popular event was the best yet, and there was plenty to do and see throughout the evening. Families and friends of the

Sheringham Shoal Offshore Windfarm boosts local emergency care

Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm (SSOWF) has donated a defibrillator to Terrington St John Junior School for use both in the school, and by the local community.

It was presented to the staff and pupils on 24 June by Kay Reeve from SSOWF.

"We are very conscious of the need for fast, on-the-spot intervention for serious health issues," explains Adam Blake, SSOWF Power Plant Manager. "Health and Safety is of necessity, at the forefront of working practices at the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm. Working out at sea is hazardous - accidents or illness that may occur during the journey out to sea to the site, or during the working day on the turbines, have to be dealt with as promptly and professionally as they are on land. Defibrillators constitute part of our basic health care equipment, as we are very aware that their use can provide vital emergency care before paramedics can reach the scene. We are therefore very pleased to be able to donate this valuable piece of equipment to the Junior School and local community in Terrington St John."

current pupil community were joined by those of children who will be enrolling at Sheringham Woodfields in September, and all enjoyed live music provided by Jack Daniel, Cutting the Mustard and Catch 22. And if that wasn't enough, there was also a bouncy castle, face painting and various other art and craft activities.

Winners of competitions were Kate Bowen, a well-known face at Woodfields, whose ‘first-out-of-thehat' winning ticket won her an iPad, and Dylan Webster who was the lucky winner of the Pirate Treasure Hunt. His prize was a box full of chocolate coins.

The evening was expertly compered by Mark Haywood and rounded off by a fish and chip supper and ice cream.

"I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of W-Fest 2016," said Matthew Smith, Business Manager at Woodfields School. "We raised a magnificent £1200 for the Friends of Sheringham Woodfields School.

"Our next fundraising event - the ever popular Quiz Evening and Pudding Club - takes place on Thursday 22 September. Book your team now via the school office on 01263 820520. We look forward to seeing you there!"

SSOWF's donation of the defibrillator is a one-off gift, but North Norfolk community organisations can apply for grants from the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund, which is administered by the Norfolk Community Foundation, by visiting www.norfolkfoundation. com/funds/sheringham-shoal-community-fund/. Since its establishment in 2010, the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund has made grant awards totalling over £370,000 to various community groups, charities and schools in North Norfolk.

Sheringham History Group

There are many things special about North Norfolk and one of these is Beeston Common. One has to take a closer look to appreciate it and this is what Sheringham History Group did on Saturday morning 2 July.

Our group was led by Francis Farrow, Honorary Warden of Beeston Common, who introduced us to the 'inhabitants' of this little part of our neighbourhood.

On the south side of Cromer Road we found a natural world and the environment to sustain it without interference except to protect it. It is listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). It is run by Sheringham Town Council, overseen by Natural England, and Francis told us that plant specialists from Kew travel here to study the many rare species that occur naturally on the Common.

beautifully seen in perfect conditions. Francis is walking the Common frequently but has only once seen as many raptors in one day, so our day was something really special.

The group photo was taken near the pillbox left from the Second World War, which was levelled off and happened to give snakes a place to hibernate, although we did not see any snakes on the day. We also did not see any newts, sadly.

Just a note: proper shoes are recommended for muddy conditions, please stay on paths, take photos but leave the plants and insects where they are. Sheringham History Group would like to extend sincere thanks to Francis Farrow for the personal tour of Beeston Common, which we all enjoyed hugely, having covered most of its 63 acres.

Some plants are very rare in other places but still occur on Beeston Common. Muntjac deer unfortunately will eat orchids and there are lots of deer, including Roe deer. Foxes also occur on the common. There is Black Bog-rush which is mowed every two years to increase its growth. Black Bog-rush habitat is now very rare in Europe. It is a varied and undisturbed habitat allowing many plant, insect and bird species to thrive.

Francis pointed out various flying insects spotted along the way Five-spot Burnet Moth, Silvery Y Moth, Keeled Skimmer Dragonfly, and Tree Bumblebee which nests in trees or bird boxes. A scarce Black-necked Moth was spotted, captured, photographed and released by Francis during our visit. Although not a Special Protection Area (SPA) for birds, our group spotted five species of raptors including two Hobbies, a pair of Buzzards, pair of Kestrels, a Sparrowhawk, and a Red Kite drifting from east to west, all with good views. The Red Kite drifted over Sheringham and was

North Norfolk District Council agreed the changes to coastal and resort car parks earlier in the year, while freezing charges for standard car parks and annual season tickets.

Every Council-run car park in the district is designated as coastal, resort or standard – a full list can be found on the North Norfolk District Council website.

The changes mean that in coastal car parks payment will be 60p for 30 minutes, £1.50 per hour or £7 for 24 hours. In resort car parks, payment will be 60p for 30 minutes, £1.30 per hour for the first hour and £1 per hour thereafter, or £7 for 24 hours.

New signage for those car parks affected by the change has been created explaining the new charges.

Cllr John Rest, Cabinet Member for Assets, said “This increase in parking charges in coastal and resort car parks will provide a contribution towards various services provided by NNDC.

“These include looking after our Blue Flag beaches, providing public conveniences and maintaining parks and open spaces.

Holt Hospice Shop Celebrates Four Years with Open Courtyard

On Wednesday 29 June the Norfolk Hospice shop in Holt celebrated its birthday and the arrival of a new manager.

Located on Bull Street the shop has been open for four years and has recently opened its courtyard where they now sell donated plants, pots and all related gardening items.

The Hospice would like to thank the local community for all their generosity and support and are hoping to attract garden enthusiasts, not only to buy, but to donate any unwanted plants or garden items.

Mark Shea, Commercial Director at the Norfolk Hospice said “The money raised through this shop has made a vital contribution to our funding, helping us continue to provide free palliative care and support to more patients than ever before.”

Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club Sheringham and Cromer Lions Club held their AGM on 28 June.

Lion President Anton Elliott opened the meeting and then handed over to this year's incoming President Arthur Bailey. Other officers elected include Vice President Rodney Crowfoot, Secretary Brian Harris and Treasurer Bill Taylor.

It has been a good fundraising year and the outgoing President was able to give a substantial donation to his year's charity the MS Society, which included money raised by Anton who recently undertook a zip line adventure in Wales, the longest in Europe (a mile in 45 seconds).

Plans continue for more fundraising, including ongoing street collections, manning the car park at Mannington Hall Open Day on 4 September, Cromer and Sheringham Carnivals, Quiz and Chips evenings and Horse Racing nights, as well as talks to interested organisations and giving out Message in a Bottle to people who, for example, are elderly or disabled to make it easier should they use the Emergency Services, who will need a quick way of finding out information about medication, NOK, illnesses etc.

The Club continues to have a varied social life with meals out, a boat trip and a variety of other suggested activities.

If anyone is new to the area and may have, for example, a desire to get to know the local area, make new friends and to help needy people then please phone Brian Harris on 01263 821276 and he will invite you to one of the Club meetings to see how you may become involved. We welcome new members.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

Harvey is still with us at present and we will update you when he finds a new family.

Bre, the other little cat mentioned last time, has now been given a clean bill of health. Although her ear is not back to normal and tends to flop, it is not as disfigured as her other ear. The haematoma was probably the result of her scratching to relieve the itching as she had a really serious problem with ear mites. Thankfully this has now been resolved and she too is waiting for someone to come and offer her a loving new NORFOLK SMALLHOLDERS 10TH home. ANNUAL SHOW AND MARKET

We find that at this time of the year, calls for cats to come into care outweigh the number of cats that we can accommodate and, although we would dearly love to help them all, it is not possible to do this. We do have a waiting list of cats to come into care and we try to give priority to the neediest or those at risk. Most charities are in the same situation, so we usually advise people to contact other charities as well,

to see if they can help or if they would be willing to add them to their waiting lists too. If the cat needs to come into care because there is a problem we will suggest ways of alleviating the situation until a place can be found for them. This is probably one of the most difficult parts of the work that we do as we would like Merlin one of the younger ones residence to be able to help everyone. in care However, even if we had more cat pens it would still not mean an end to the problem.

One recent addition to our numbers was a young kitten, now re-homed, that was found in someone’s garden. The person who found him was not a cat owner so did not have any cat food to give him overnight, so gave him some of their dog’s food. Although this is not ideal as dog food does not contain taurine, an essential ingredient in cat food, it was a sensible solution to a short term problem. Dog food should not be given to a cat in place of cat food on a regular basis. Providing a good quality cat food for your cat will ensure it stays healthy and is less likely to have problems with its health.

If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.

Love for Leo

Visit us at www.rbelltreeservices.co.uk Unit 6 Cornish Way, North Walsham NR28 0AW

Moss and Robina are grateful for all the support for Love for Leo.

The fund is doing very well with generous donations from friends and organisations - the latest donation is from Paul and Kristian at the Sitting Room, Augusta Street Sheringham. They raised ÂŁ204.60 from their charity quiz.night. Please call in and have a coffee and a delicious pastry when you are passing - I am hooked on their Portuguese tarts so I shall be a regular customer.

The money is being used to make donations to Norfolk children with cerebral palsy. In addition a donation has been made to NANSA in Norwich who do so much to help children with cerebral palsy. Leo attends and thoroughly enjoys it. He is making good progress although he is nearly five years old and is still unable to walk or talk. He does not need to talk - his smile and infectious giggle gets him what he wants. He starts school in September where we are sure he will make good progress.

Moss and Robina are fundraising by Moss donating fees from his talks and Robina selling homemade preserves and garden produce at the All Natural shop in the High Street - we have to give thanks to Mary for her support of Love for Leo and giving us space for jars etc.

After our very successful tombola last year during the Forties weekend, we will be setting out our tables and prizes again this year on Saturday 17 September. We will be near The Kitchen in Station Road - another lovely stop for coffee – the same spot as last year. We had lots of excellent prizes last year - people were actually queuing to buy tickets and we are aiming for a similar array this year.

So do you have any unwanted presents or maybe a bottle of wine that we could use, for which we would be very grateful? Please contact Moss Taylor on 01263 823637 or Robina Churchyard on 01263 823588. We will gladly collect from you.

Again many thanks for all the support and help it is so good to be able to help the children. Robina 26

Merchants` Place 10th Anniversary celebration

Merchants' Place Community Resource and Learning Centre in Cromer is celebrating its 10th Anniversary on 10 August.

The centre was opened in 2006 as part of the Community Economic Regeneration initiative, to offer essential services to the people of Cromer and surrounding district. It acts as a community hub offering a comprehensive signposting service for local services, information on learning and training opportunities, business start-up advice and local training provision including Maths, English and IT. It is also widely used by other agencies such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Norfolk Community Law Service, Voluntary Norfolk and Norfolk Community Learning Service.

Since 2006 it has gone from strength to strength, with over 100,000 people contacting the centre or accessing services over its 10-year lifespan. To celebrate this achievement, an Anniversary Open Day is being held on Wednesday 10 August, when Merchants' Place will be open for visitors from 10am to 2pm.

Guests will be invited to look around the centre's facilities, join staff and clients for refreshments and find out about the services the centre offers. Representatives from organisations which currently use the centre - Voluntary Norfolk, Norfolk Community Law Service, the Matthew Project, Young Peoples Advisors and NHS Wellbeing Service - will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice, so this is the ideal opportunity to find out just what does happen at Merchants` Place.

Norfolk Community Learning Services is launching a range of new courses in September 2016, some of which are free.

Information about each course and how to enrol will be available on the day. Please drop in. Sheringham Independent 444

Rallentando

David Mills, the new owner of Rallentando coffee shop, has brought his own individual look to the café, as well as the menu, whilst keen to retain and build on the great coffee made by the previous owners.

Registered Charity No. 214779

!"# $#%&'#()*!&(+!,-. / (0'+/#)

Local artist Colin Seal helped bring his own unique style to one of the walls with a retro style mural of a lovely motor scooter. Rallentando offers a range of excellent Lavazza Italian coffees, tea infusions, hot chocolates (of different chocolate strengths and flavours, including chill!), as well as introducing alcoholic shakes.

The lovely home- made cakes and scones served by the previous owners can still be enjoyed, alongside teacakes and crumpets and great homemade pizza slices and panini’s. David makes the pizza slices from an authentic Italian recipe of his grandmother.

Rallentando is open every day from 9.30am. Pop in and try a great barista made cappuccino or latte, or an iced coffee (perhaps with amaretto or one of the other 14 flavourings), a banoffee hot chocolate the choice is endless!

News from Richard Shepherd, District Councillor, Sheringham South

What a weekend we had! Potty Mad is a super family occasion and so well organised – a big thanks to all those who supported us on Saturday lunchtime and in the evening at the Lobster Garden. At one stage, it looked as though the Shantymen were appearing at a mini Glastonbury! And we've still got the Carnival ahead - Sheringham rocks all through the summer!

Council hat on now!

Just a reminder, our Councillor Surgery will be at 12noon to 1pm on Friday 19 August at the Community Centre with Doug Smith (North), Judy Oliver and I. Please come, even if just for a chat or an idea - or you can have a good old Norfolk whinge - that's what we're here for! With Brexit, and Devolution there are lots of things that need explaining.

Finally, a slap on the wrist for me! Half way down Waterbank Road you must have seen my beautiful bush full of blue flowers? People were having to duck and weave under it on the pavement (just remembered, it’s a Ceanothus!) Well, it is now a shadow of its former self! Since when I've had complaints from several people about invasive bushes and hedges, especially in the Cremers Drift area. Sheringham South is lucky with wider and more modern pavements but not so some roads further to the North. Please have a go and keep things trimmed.

I have tried to get Butts Lane at least tidied up but get no response from Norfolk County Highways – I will keep trying.

We have to protect the wild flowers and birds nesting but things can still be done. Let's hope for a wonderful Summer. Dick Shepherd, 01263 824662

52 miles on foot in one day

On Sunday 26 June Sally King and Anita Lusher, self employed personal fitness trainers of North Norfolk Coastal Fitness, achieved the challenge to walk 52 miles in one day.

Their journey began at Little Masssingham on the Peddars Way and continued along the Norfolk Coastal Path, through challenging weather, terrain mud and shingle banks, finishing at the iconic Cromer Pier.

They did this to raise awareness and funds for the local mental health charity, Norwich MIND, which supports people when they feel alone and vulnerable.

Funds are still coming in through the support of local businesses, friends and the just giving page. To date they have raised £1490.

At Sheringham, clients, friends and the Mayor of Sheringham met them.

At the finishing point, Cromer Pier, they were cheered in by the Cromer Town crier family and friends.

Sally and Anita set out with one goal in mind to support their local mental health charity.

When asked if she thought they could make it, Anita Lusher said “I never doubted for one minute, giving up was never an option, when we had in our minds the huge obstacles that some people have to deal with every day”.

They were joined by Norman Lamb MP, who is very passionate about the mental health services, and his wife at Stiffkey, who then accompanied them to Morston.

Euro 2016 Roundup

Sally King said “We did this out of respect to everyone experiencing or helping others with mental health issues”.

“We did not do this alone, without the support from so many people we would have failed so a massive thank you to all. “Smile, have faith and remember the power of positivity”

Euro 2016 finished on 10 July as France vs. Portugal took place in the Stade de France.

It was not the most exciting of finals that anyone has ever seen, however it did give fans some good moments, especially if you’re Portuguese, as Swansea striker Eder scored a wonderful strike in the second half of extra time to ensure that Portugal ruined what would have been a home nation win for France.

Although it was not looking too positive for Portugal in the first half, as star player Ronaldo had to be carried off in tears in the 25th minute, after an injury sustained in a clash with Dmitiri Payet earlier on. It could have been so different for France as substitute Andre Gignac hit the post after he scuffed his shot. However, it was not to be for France in the end, as they could not manage to break down a resilient Portugal team. Euro 2016 overall was an exciting tournament which was enjoyable for the fans of most nations, apart from English fans as

they were knocked out by an Iceland side who were one of the surprise packages of the tournament. Another team that proved to be challenging were Wales, with Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Hal Robson-Kanu spearheading the Welsh team to the semi-finals of the tournament, after beating tough opponents such as Belgium. It was one of the greatest nights in recent Welsh sporting history, as they managed to beat them 3-1 after falling behind early on. All-in-all, it was a good tournament and it certainly lived up to my expectations as it produced some brilliant games.
