Theatre’s plea for more behind the scenes helpers A community theatre is appealing for people to join its unsung “cast” of helpers who work away from spotlight to help it stage drama, cinema and music.
Sheringham Little Theatre has an army of about 80 folk who give their time for a variety of roles from usher duties and selling programmes to distributing posters and serving in the coffee bar.
Now it is looking to bolster the ranks, and is particularly keen to find those who can tackle: • Fundraising – ideas and organisation
• Handyman and maintenance work to keep on top of minor repairs
• Backstage crew roles from props to scenery – and even stage management for local productions.
• Costumes – laundry, ironing and repairs

Theatre’s plea for more behind the scenes helpers
Continued from front cover... Theatre director Debbie Thompson said “Without our marvellous volunteers we simply could not survive. If we had to pay for all the things they do it would just not be affordable. But we are a Little Theatre with big ambitions and we want do more in the community we serve – and we need more people to help us. Some of the jobs need some skills, but enthusiasm and time are just as important.”
Mrs Thompson said the theatre was particularly keen to set up a fundraising team, who could come up with ideas for events, organize and run them and encourage the community to hold money-spinning functions to support their local theatre.
year, she added. Volunteers also get invitations to private events at the theatre.
Long-standing helper Wendy Austin, who is the theatre’s volunteer champion, and helps in the Hub coffee bar with husband Graham, said ”We love the theatre and want to support it and the local community. It is great to meet other people – from the public to other volunteers.
She also provides ‘digs’ for visiting actors throughout the year – and the theatre is also looking for more people to house cast members particularly during the summer drama and panto seasons.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Wendy Volunteer champion Wendy Austin on 01263 822429 or drop into the box office for There was a real sense of team spirit and family among the Austin serving cakes at the a chat about volunteering. Anyone able to help with volunteer team and the theatre ran social events during the Hub coffee bar accommodation should call the theatre or 01263 822117.

Panto gives big boost to Little Theatre A Peter Pan panto hooked in the crowds at Sheringham Little Theatre. More than 6000 people watched the 45 shows during the festive season. The production played to an average of 83% capacity at the 180-seater venue, with many of the performances sold out, said theatre director Debbie Thompson who was thrilled with the success of the panto. "Feedback from audiences showed people loved the special effects, humour and quirkiness of the show, and the children particularly loved the puppets," she added.

The panto included specially made puppets of Tick and Tock, the crocodiles feared by villainous Captain Hook and which are being raffled off at the end of the season, as well as projections and simulated flying scenes.
"It was an ambitious production for us. We had shied away from Pan in the Cast of Sheringham Little Theatre's past because of the flying, successful Peter Pan panto but we can do it now because of the strength of the technical team headed by Matt Coomber," added Mrs Thompson. It was also helped by having the show specially written for the small stage venue by director Nick Earnshaw. "As a community theatre we rely very heavily on the panto and summer drama seasons which are our two main box office income generators. So a successful panto season is important to us, and we are very pleased with Peter Pan's figures this year which exceeded our budget targets."
Next Christmas the Little Theatre's panto will be the Wizard of Oz, and will see a return of "dame" James Lavender. Find out more at www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com or call the box office on 01263 822347.

Make a New Year’s resolution to help others in your community
Could you make a New Year’s resolution to help people in your local community? That’s the question being asked by Norfolk Community Transport Association (NCTA).
There are nearly 50 community transport schemes operating across the county but, as NCTA chair Kate Gill explains “our schemes rely heavily on the important contribution made by volunteers giving of their time and energy – as drivers, administrators, trustees and passenger assistants - but we are especially short of drivers. We’re in urgent of people who are willing to give a few hours of their time to drive local residents on straightforward but essential journeys.
In a mainly rural county like Norfolk, community transport is many people’s only means of getting to and from healthcare appointments or just to the local shops. Around 250,000 journeys a year are provided across the county, helping local residents live independently and access social activities, education and employment. It plays an important part in tackling social isolation and
is especially important for older people and those with disability issues, but can also be a lifeline for younger people and families who lack their own transport.
“We’re very lucky in Norfolk” added Kate. “Many communities have a volunteer car scheme, a local community-run bus service or dial-a-ride scheme offering responsive and accessible travel option – but we do need drivers and would urge anyone who feels they might be able to contribute to the wellbeing of others in their community to get in touch to see how they might be able to help.”
Commercial operators often find rural routes uneconomic and in some areas of the county there are just no transport choices available. Some community transport schemes serve just one village, others provide extended Dial-ARide bus services across wider areas and still others arrange social trips and days out.
If you could help as a volunteer driver, or would just like to find out more about what might be involved, please visit www.ncta.org.uk or call 01362 698216.
Canaan Christian Centre Support Children in Ukraine
As Valentine’s Day approaches, spread a bit of love to neglected children in the Ukraine.
Each year the Canaan Christian Centre, based in Sheringham, raises £1000 to send children in a Ukraine orphanage to a summer camp in the Carpathian hills. This makes a huge difference to their lives and the money we send is raised through a sale of unwanted gifts in the Coffee Bar of the Parish Church Hall in Cromer (opposite Boots) from 9am 2pm.
Refreshments are served and we hope to also have a second hand book stall and children’s stall on Saturday 11 February. Admission is free.

Tick and Tock clock in with young raffle winners
Two young panto fans are all smiles after winning a pair of puppet stars from Sheringham’s fun festive show.
Brother and sister Harrison and Eva Peck from Sheringham enjoyed visiting the show at the Little Theatre – really getting into the spirit by dressing up as characters Captain Hook and Wendy.
Now the icing on their cake has been to win crocodile puppets Tick and Tock - who terrorized Captain Hook in the successful show - in an end-of-season raffle, which also raised funds for the community theatre.
Parents Kate Stevens and Craig Peck took Harrison, five, and Eva, four, along to the venue to collect their new colourful chums. Katy Harrison and Eva Peck and their parents said “Harrison was so meet new ‘family members’ Tick and Tock excited when he heard after winning them in a raffle that we had won the Photo: Sheringham Little Theatre raffle and has already arranged to take the puppets into Sheringham Primary School to show all his friends!”

THE JUBILEE PLAYERS Murder in Play by Simon Brett
Come and join us at The Horstead Tithe Barn for our early spring production. This comedy murder mystery will help throw off any lurking winter blues while challenging your little grey cells to work out who dunnit. Boris Smolensky’s budget repertory production is looking decidedly shaky. The cast are more interested in their egos than the play, and things go from bad to worse when a murder is committed. Relationships between the cast members are sorely tested as Boris insists that the production goes ahead despite recent events. Numerous red herrings will keep you, the audience, guessing and chuckling until the final moments of the action.
‘Murder in Play’ will be performed at The Tithe Barn, Horstead on Wednesday 15, Thursday 16, and Friday 17 Februay at 7.30pm. All tickets £6, from Sandra’s Salon, 18, Wroxham Road, Coltishall NR12 7EA Tel daytime: 01603 36676 evening: 01603 738764.

City of London Sinfonia in Holt
On Saturday 11 February at 7.30 pm in St Andrew's Church, Holt, FALCON and St Andrews are very excited to be hosting the City of London Sinfonia: VIVALDI La Folia for 2 violins & strings From the British Isles, Irish & Scottish Reels GRAINGER, The Londonderry Air, Molly on the shore PIAZZOLLA, Romance del Diablo, Tango del diablo, Vayamos al diablo LOCATELLI, Il laberinto armonico, Trillo del Diavolo from L'arte del violin From the Appalachians, Bonaparte's Retreat, McLeod's Reel, Gilderoy COPLAND, Hoe Down from Rodeo, Nocturne, Ukelele Serenade VIVALDI, Autumn from The Four Seasons
The devil has all the best tunes, so they say, and the violin is his instrument of choice. In this programme, we explore fiddling from the classical and folk traditions with devilishly difficult trills and tricks from the Italian masters of the Baroque, folk fiddling from the British Isles to the Appalachian mountains of the deep south of American and sultry impassioned tango from Argentina. En route, we take in music from Percy Grainger and Aaron Copland inspired by the folk traditions of the UK and the USA.
City of London Sinfonia is joined by two of the best folk musicians in the country: award winning folk fiddler Henry Webster and the astonishing banjo player Dan Walsh.

Choral Society Fund Raising Event
Something rather different will be happening in St Peter’s Parish Church Sheringham on the evening of Saturday 18 February.
At 7.30pm – for just one night only – the church will be transformed into a cinema of the silent movie era complete with organ accompaniment.
Anthony Gowing, a nationally renowned organist, has a particular passion for accompanying silent movies on the organ. For this very special occasion, which is to raise much-needed funds for the Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society (where Anthony is accompanist), he will accompany the full length feature film ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ which was made in 1925 and stars the then very popular Lon Chasey.
Free entry – no need to buy tickets in advance. There will be a retiring collection (recommended minimum donation £8). This is a great opportunity to do something a little different on a February evening at the end of half term and help a good cause in the process. St Peter’s renowned ‘posh’ refreshments will be available.
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society are delighted to announce that much appreciated grants of £100 each have been received from both Norwich and Peterborough Building Society and the Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Festival which will help defray the costs of film hire.

Having been a qualified solicitor for 22 years she has a wealth of advice for so many different situations, and I am sure that several of us went home wondering if we were fully prepared for the future, whatever that might bring!
She explained so much regarding the legal system in simple terms that we could all appreciate, and it certainly gave us much food for thought.
Thank you Clare, and I am sure you will have more clients calling at your door as a result.
14 February - we will have a fun evening arranged by Janet and Joan don't miss it. 21 February - Committee Meeting 7.30pm 28 February - our President, Rev Jackie Smith and her friend will tell us all about their trip to Israel.
Our Meetings start at 7.30pm and if any of your family or friends are interested in joining us as visitors, do please bring them along.
As usual, if you would like further information, please contact Anne Barker 01263 824887 Sheringham Independent 456

How are your New Year’s resolutions going? I’m sure a number of you will have been participating in Dry January, and while I may not have committed to a resolution of my own, I take delight in being your botanical themed support. Be warned, my method of helping you remain on the sober straight-and-narrow is to put you off alcohol with stories of some fascinating and ghastly beverages.
Mudai is a Chilean alcoholic ceremonial drink created from the boiled seeds of Araucaria araucana, the monkey puzzle tree. The fermentation process is aided by chewing up and spitting back (er, no thanks) the seeds to add enzymes to break up starch. Mudai is not the only drink in which this method is employed, with the South/ Central American Chicha traditionally being created from the chewing of uncooked Zea mays (corn).
Jeppson’s Malört, known as “Chicago’s most beloved and disgusting liqueur” is so bitter that the manufacturer describes it as “unrelenting, even brutal to the palate” - there is even a rumour that it is flavoured with gasoline. The culprit is in fact Artemisia absinthium (wormwood) and the name absinthium is believed to come from the Greek word ‘absinthion’ meaning ‘undrinkable’. If that’s
01692 405301
not enough to deter you, the main active ingredient in wormwood (in tiny quantities, however, in derivative drinks) is the neurotoxin thujone, and side effects from consuming wormwood include renal failure, convulsions, involuntary evacuations, abnormal respiration, and foaming at the mouth.
Rosolio was a cordial created with our native Drosera rotundifolia (sundew) as described by Sir Hugh Plat in 1600. Sundews are a carnivorous plant that trap and digest their prey with the use of glistening, mucilage topped tentacles, hence their common name, and Sir Hugh specified the removal of any dead insects before adding the ingredient to his cordial recipe. Sonnentau Likör, a German liqueur, still contains the sundew as an ingredient.
Secale cereale, or rye, a base ingredient in some whiskeys, beers and vodkas, is susceptible to ergot (Claviceps purpurea) fungus, which sometimes resembles the grain so closely it can be difficult to identify. Until the late
1800s the dark growths were believed to be a normal part of the plant. This fungus is, however, highly toxic to people and contains a precursor to LSD that survives the brewing process. Ergot is the cause of miscarriages, seizures, gangrene, psychosis and even death. In the middle ages, entire villages could be subject to outbreaks of ‘dancing mania’, and it’s even been speculated that the Salem witch trials were based on convulsions caused by ergotism that led locals to believe the sufferer was bewitched.
Now go forth and be joyous in your decision to take a break from the grisly business that is alcohol consumption!

Cromer & Sheringham Brass Band
Cromer & Sheringham Brass Band and all staff at Santander in Holt would like to thank the public for their generosity and support of the Christmas carol street collection that took place in Holt on the morning of Thursday 22 December.
The event incurred no expenses and so a tremendous total of £188.86 was raised, which will be shared equally between the Santander Foundation and Cromer & Sheringham Brass Band Funds.
Throughout 2016, all donations received by the Santander Foundation were matched by Santander UK as part of ‘The Discovery Project’ and distributed between Age UK and Barnardos. 12
We are well into the New Year and hope it will bring peace between nations with the first flowers of spring. The NHS is in trouble - it needs money to cope. If the rich could help then there might be some hope. The weather forecast spells such gloom, it has started to snow so I’ll stay in my room, and long for the summer – especially June – my favourite month - it can’t come too soon.

What are Lasting Powers of Attorney?
As lawyers, we are continually striving to educate the public on the importance of having Lasting Powers of Attorney in place. This legal document gives authority for others to make decisions on your behalf when you are unable to.
The case of Paul Briggs is a heart wrenching example highlighting the significance of making sure your wishes and feelings are formally recorded before it becomes too late. Sadly, Paul Briggs, a husband and father to a young daughter, was involved in a traffic incident. This has left him unconscious for the past 17 months and in a permanent vegetative state. Paul is unable to make decisions himself or communicate his wishes and feelings.
As reported in the Telegraph, Paul's wife has described his condition as "much worse than if he had died at the scene". She explains that she,"…never knew that states worse than death existed until this happened to Paul."
She goes on to explain the torture the family are experiencing witnessing Paul in his current condition. Reportedly Paul, "Would not have wanted to carry on being kept alive
purely on life support."
Unfortunately for Paul and his family, it seems no formal instructions were recorded to confirm what he would want to happen in a horrific situation like this. His family, therefore have no legal power to refuse life sustaining treatment on his behalf to allow him to pass away peacefully. They are in the process of challenging the doctors' decision to keep Paul on life support through the Court of Protection. This will enviably be a long and stressful process for the family who are already dealing with so much grief.
How could this situation have been different? If Paul had made a Lasting Power of Attorney for Health & Welfare matters, the application to the Court of Protection may not have been necessary.
A Health & Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney can give nominated people the power to consent or refuse life sustaining treatment on your behalf. This means that a person you trust can take into account your personal wishes and feelings and make this incredibly important decision on your behalf. It also covers wider situations, for example arranging for your care and your day to day welfare needs.
It can be tempting for people to view
a Lasting Power of Attorney simply as a tool to plan for mental or physical incapacity in later life. However, this document could be of significant value for many of us who find ourselves in a similar situation to Paul and his family.
Throughout January 2017, we are offering 25% off Lasting Powers of Attorney. To claim your discount, or to find out how our legal team can help you for peace of mind, contact us today. A dazzler of a display (worth the wait)
Crowds of locals and visitors enjoyed a dazzling and spectacular start to welcome in the New Year in Cromer today – one week later than planned.
The annual New Year’s Day Fireworks display – the biggest in the country – was postponed a week due to adverse weather conditions on 1 January. The breathtaking display saw over 2,400 fireworks launched off Cromer Pier and out to sea in a show that was well worth the wait and attracted people from far and wide to the town on a still winter’s day. Spectators lined the cliff tops and promenade to watch the 14-minute extravaganza explode in the skies and on the surface of the sea. Thousands of fireworks produced 27 sequences in the display – all preceded by a single green shell to mark the eve of the 100th anniversary of one of Cromer Lifeboat’s most famous rescues which took place on January, 9 1917 – that of the Fernebo. On that day in 1917 a green rocket was fired to mark the end of what had been a tumultuous day. Cromer Mayor Tim Adams said “We’ve had a fantastic evening, with a lot of visitors from as far afield as Cambridgeshire. People have come a long way to see the display, it’s a calendar event for some people and they come every year.” Director of Titanium Fireworks, Simon Page, said “We are incredibly proud to have fired the display this year. It all went to plan and we’re very pleased to get the show we wanted to do on New Year’s Day up today. Cromer Pier is a unique setting, it is in good condition which means we can be quite creative and we’re already thinking about new ideas for 2018. It’s all about trying to make the most of the architecture of the pier, it’s a great shape to work with. Some of the 150 displays we fire each year are work but
others unbridle our creativity and we relish the challenges and opportunities of firing from an iconic structure like Cromer Pier." Chairman of the Fireworks committee Jim Bond said: "It was again, better than ever, it continues to wow year-on-year. The weather was perfect so we got patterns of smoke in the air too. The display makes the most of this unique setting and has drawn lots of excited and complimentary comments. The hard work put in by the many volunteers, and the co-operation of many local services and businesses makes this a particularly satisfying event." Local attractions and traders opened up their shops, eateries, museums and businesses on the day. After the show, people took to social media to share their thoughts on the display with one visitor saying ‘Cromer's delayed New Year fireworks were worth the wait’, with another saying ‘Gorgeous firework bouquet tonight over Cromer pier, good things come to those who wait’, another said ‘Well worth a 300 mile round trip for'. Crowds donated a total of just over £8,000 to the event’s bucket collection which will be split between funding next year’s display and a grant fund for local Cromer charities to apply to. Mr Bond said “The committee are extremely pleased with the amount raised and would like to thank everyone for their support.” For the fifth year running the organisers are running a Photography Compeition which is open to all nonprofessional photographers who attended the event. Did you take a photo of the fireworks on the day? If so, you have until midday on Monday, January 16 2017 to enter your images. The winner will have their image turned into the official poster for the 2018 New Year’s Day Firework event as well as use in other promotional material.
Photo: Christian Blulch
Local electrical retailer Hughes Plus are also offering the winner the latest 43” HD TV. Manager of Hughes in Cromer, Simon Morton said “Once again it is a pleasure for us to support this amazing event in our town. This year’s winning photographer will be rewarded with a 43” LG LCD television boasting Full HD resolution, built-in Freeview HD and a Virtual Sound Surround. The quality and quantity of entries increases each year and, hopefully many will be tempted to place their own entry for the first time. I would like to thank all the members and volunteers that help to make such an iconic and eagerly awaited Norfolk event a reality each year and attract so many visitors to sample the atmosphere Cromer has to offer.” Chairman of the Fireworks committee Jim Bond said “The annual New Year's Day Fireworks have been capturing people's imagination for eighteen years, every year we see hundreds of fabulous photographs of the event in the press and online. We are looking for photographs that really capture the spirit of the event."

Thanks from Tesco Sheringham
2016 proved to be a fantastic year regarding raising funds for our charity partners Diabetes UK and The British Heart Foundation.
So far, we’ve raised over £6,500. We’ve also raised funds and supported Help for Heroes, RNLI, Children in Need, Cancer Research, Kelling Newsletter, local schools, playgroups, Scouts, Guides and Brownies, church events, About with Friends, Dementia Awareness and Sheringham Carnival.
Thank you to all our customers who donate items for the foodbank. This is so well supported throughout the year and especially during July and December when volunteers come into store to promote the cause.
At the end of each day, we now donate fresh food with a short shelf life to local charities to
provide meals for those in need. This has been a great success.
Over the Christmas period choirs from Woodfields School and Kelling Primary, The Salvation Army, Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band and a brass quartet came into store to provide a real Christmas atmosphere with wonderful Christmas music.
Many groups have been in store to raise awareness and funds for their causes. We’ve had bucket collections, bag packers and even the Police held an awareness surgery in store.
During the year, like most local businesses, we supported town events. Staff have dressed up, taken part in events, e.g. the raft race, helped out on the carnival caravan, etc. At the Christmas turning on of the lights event we provided mulled wine, mince pies and clementines to those waiting for the procession to begin.
Are you worried about speeding vehicles in Sheringham?
The Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel have raised speeding vehicles in Sheringham as a local police priority.
The Sheringham Safer Neighbourhood Team are interested in speaking with local residents about speeding and will be holding a number of street briefings in various locations in and around Sheringham. These briefings are an opportunity for residents and members of the public to speak to the local Police team about any concerns they have relating to vehicles speeding in Sheringham. Speed checks will be also be undertaken by the team.
Local schools, Brownies and Guides have taken part in Farm to Fork Trails – finding out where food comes from, what happens in our warehouse, how to find information
from product labels, hidden sugar and, best of all, tasting healthy food. Teachers and Leaders are welcome to contact me to arrange a Trail.
Bags of Help is our local community grant scheme, funded by the 5p bag charge. Customers are given a token to vote for the project of their choice at checkouts. Projects must improve or encourage the use of outdoor spaces for the benefit of local communities. To apply please go to www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp or ring the Bags of Help helpline: 0121 237 5780. Good luck!
We hope children have enjoyed our colouring table and free fruit during school breaks, giving parents the chance to shop without ‘help’. We also hope you’ve enjoyed tasting samples of our products too. Our greeters have certainly enjoyed meeting you.
Again, thank you all for supporting our fund raising events. May we wish you a healthy, happy and prosperous 2017. Sue Lowe Community Champion for Tesco Sheringham

PEDESTRIANISATION FOR SHERINGHAM?
Judy Oliver, one of the councillors for Sheringham South is seeking your views on whether there should be some sort of pedestrianisation for Sheringham and if so what, where and when?
Judy Oliver has prepared a survey which you will find with this edition of our magazine and which she very much hopes you will be able to find time to complete.
There are many options that could be considered– pedestrianisation during some weekends or on some weekdays, during some months or for just part of the day. If there is support for any particular scheme, there could be a trial of those arrangements to assess the benefits and disadvantages.

Any scheme needs, of course, to take account of all the different views and interests including the needs of our shops and businesses, of shop deliveries and commercial vehicles, the interests of those who need a car to shop, and of those who want to just to park, buy and leave, and the interests of those who use taxis to shop or to be driven home after going out.
Judy Oliver will analyse the responses and then try to summarise all your views and publish those findings for further thoughts and comment.
If you haven’t got a copy of the survey and would like one, or if you would like a further copy, then just let Judy know by email on judy_oliver@talk21.com or by phone on 07710 236066 and she will get a copy to you.

Howard Denner was a senior scientific civil servant who retired early to follow his passion for music by becoming a free-lance photographer, specialising in live gigs.
Howard soon discovered that to be allowed to rake photographs close to the performers, he needed a press pass and that to get a press pass he needed to be accredited as a member of a photo agency - and that such accreditation required submission of a portfolio of pictures deemed good enough by the agency - which Howard Denner

Howard’s retirement career then took him to every venue imaginable, from rooms over pubs to Glastonbury to the O2 arena and taking ‘action’ photographs of such as Larry Adler, Stephane Grapelli, Tina Turner, Madonna, Cher, Meat Loaf and Mick Jagger and scores of jazz musicians.
One noticeable feature was Howard’s remarkable ability to instantly identify scores of these performers, many really famous and some not so well known - but he gave names to all of them.

photographers were usually only allowed to be in position for 10 or 15 minutes during the first 3 songs in a public performance. After that they were ‘kicked out’ and if they had not got the pictures they needed that was just too bad.
Meetings of the North Norfolk Photographic Society are normally held on the first and third Wednesdays each month at the Holt Community Centre.

We will then be taken across the water to the Emerald Isle, from where the orchestra will play ‘Danny Boy’, ‘Irish Washerwoman Encore’ & ‘Toss the Feather’, a favourite in Irish dance music.
The orchestra will continue its journey to Wales from where the Classical Brit Award-winning Welsh vocal group, Only Men Aloud, will bring their breath-taking sound to the Blickling audience. They will be singing rugby favourite ‘Bread of Heaven’ and other Welsh anthems. Then, it’s time to head north for music from the Scottish Highlands which will be performed by a City of Norwich Pipe Band Norfolk-based, traditional pipe band. Scottish greats including ‘Skye Boat
Song’, ‘Scotland the Brave’ and ‘Flower of Scotland’ will be performed before the pipe band walks up through the centre of the crowd to mark the end of a truly memorable first half.
The second half will see the National Symphony Orchestra return to the stage to perform all the Proms favourites including ‘Rule Britannia’, ‘Land of Hope & Glory’ and British anthem ‘Jerusalem’.
It promises to be a truly celebratory evening so come and join in the fun at what is considered Norfolk’s finest classical outdoor concert. As well as having free parking (for both coaches and cars), guests can bring their picnics and champagne, wave their flags, sing along and soak up the atmosphere with friends in the outstanding Blickling Hall setting. The evening will conclude with a stunning fireworks finale over the lake, choreographed to the music.
Lisa Ward, from Revival-Productions, said “We’re really excited about this year’s musical because it will be showcasing the best of British and we’re delighted to have the National Symphony Orchestra whose reputation speaks for itself. Tickets have been selling particularly well this year and I think people love the event because they know what to expect now; this will be our 6th year at Blickling and when you consider the setting, the music and the performers, we know it’s going to be another memorable evening.”
For Early Bird tickets at the reduced price of £30 (£35 thereafter and £38 on the night) and event details, visit www.revival-productions.co.uk or call the box office on 01630 674342.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
Stephanie has been very busy on the ‘cat phone’ since the New Year and several more cats have been re-homed, including Pudding the lovely tabby and white girl featured last time.
Although quite a few of the calls have been for people offering homes to cats in our care, she receives lots of calls on other matters. Obviously people do contact us if, for whatever reason, they, or members of their family, can no longer care for their cat(s) and, after discussing the circumstances, these do go on our Waiting List. Other calls can be for people with cat behaviour/health related queries and, although she is sometimes able to help, obviously it is not always possible as the best person to talk to would be a vet and, in these circumstances, Stephanie will suggest you contact them.
Most of the other calls will relate to stray cats and, as we have previously explained, it is important to establish whether or not the cat is indeed a stray. This is not only for our benefit, but also for the benefit of the person who wishes us to take the cat into care. Stephanie therefore always suggests taking the cat to a vet to see whether or not it has been chipped and would also advise putting paper collars on to see if there is an owner out there. It is important for people to realise that a cat is regarded as a person’s property. This is one of the reasons why, when a stray is handed into our care, the person handing it in signs one of our Acceptance Forms. The form clearly indicates that we have taken the cat in good faith as a stray. If, at a future date, there is a dispute with regard to the ownership of the cat, we can refer the matter back to the person concerned. As the cat is the property of the original owner, the person handing it in could be charged under the Theft Act 1968 with handling stolen goods or obtaining property by deception. Instances of this happening are very rare
but it is important to be aware of this. Because cats are known to visit other homes for food is would be very easy to consider that a visitor is a stray, when in fact it is just being a cat. If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.
Maisie, super little mum, now looking If you are looking for a cat for a new home of her own or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.
We are now on Facebook. You can find us under Cats Protection North Walsham.

Directionless, defeated, down by Joel Lodge, our Football Correspondent
After nine defeats in thirteen league games Alex Neil is still in charge of Norwich City; a 2-1 defeat to bottom table Rotherham surely was going to be the cherry on the icing of the cake for the board to sack Neil however that is not the case.
Saturday’s defeat against Rotherham pushes City further and further away from the playoff spots, as automatic promotion is now something of a pipe dream.
Personally, I feel Neil should’ve been sacked
around late November, when things weren’t to late and we could’ve turned our season around. No longer in the dugout do I see the driven, no nonsense, ruthless character that was the Alex Neil of twenty months ago but instead a lost, clueless and tactically inept manager who has lost all of the fire that persuaded the club to bring him in two years ago.
Our downfall cannot be totally blamed on Neil however as Delia and the rest of the board seem to have no sense of direction as to where they want to be and what they want to achieve
in five years.
Most fans are lost and there is a toxic, poisonous atmosphere surrounding the club currently and the club needs an overhaul in many areas, I feel that we are too sentimental as a whole and the board aren’t being as ruthless as they should be and aren’t connecting with fans as they should be; Delia and co need to take action soon, otherwise things could soon start to turn very ugly.
Sheringham Golf Club Presentation to Woodfields
Sheringham Golf Club’s Men’s Senior Section presented Sheringham Woodfields School with a cheque totalling £400.
The money was raised following a very successful Christmas lunch raffle. Charlie and Ashleigh-Rose, pupils at Sheringham Woodfields School, received the cheque during a visit by the Men’s Senior Section on Tuesday 10 January. Presenting the cheque, Mark Hogan (Lead Organiser for the Senior Section) commented on the very impressive amount raised by the raffle and was pleased to be donating it to such a worthy organisation.
Matthew Smith, Business Manager for the School, confirmed that the money would be used in the forthcoming revamp of the school hall stage lighting to help improve lighting options to support yoga, rebound
