Exciting news from All Saints Church, Upper Sheringham!
At the recent PCC (Parochial Church Council) meeting it was agreed to proceed with a major fundraising project to re-hang the derelict six bells in the tower of All Saints Church to enable traditional English ‘full circle’ bellringing to take place once again. The bells have not been rung like this since the 1930s.
They are a complete ring of six bells cast by Thomas Mears II of Whitechapel, London in 1841. The project will involve all of the bells being removed from the Church and taken to Nicholson Engineering of Bridport, Dorset.

Exciting news from All Saints Church, Upper Sheringham!
Continued from front cover... A new metal frame will then be made, along will new fixtures and fittings, and the bells will be tuned before returning everything to the Church. The original wooden mediaeval frame will remain in situ in the tower.
In addition, we plan to install a chiming mechanism to ensure the bells can still be sounded joyfully to call the faithful to worship and to celebrate other occasions when no ringers are available.
We hope you share our excitement in the prospect of restoring the only set of bells in the Weybourne Group of Parishes. The total cost of this project is £75,000. All donations, no matter how large or small, will be greatly appreciated.
Donations can be sent to the Project Co-ordinator, Sue Morton at 4 Linden Grove, Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8PD. Cheques to be made payable to ‘Upper Sheringham PCC’. Please contact us for a gift aid form – 01263 826078 or suejmorton@gmail.com.
For those who prefer to donate online, I have set up a Go Fund Me page – www.gofundme.com/upper-sheringham-bell-appeal.
WWI Commemoration Beacon Lighting
As part of the commemoration of 100 years since the end of the First World War, Sheringham Town Council are arranging a Beacon lighting event. It has been brought to the Council’s attention that many organisations, businesses and individuals would like to be involved in being part of a week of events. The Little Theatre has booked the Film Journey’s End and the WI are looking to develop a community craft project. To facilitate the whole Town coming together to commemorate this occasion, we are holding a meeting on the 26th March at 6pm at Sheringham Community Centre to bring everyone together and put together a programme of events by the community for the community.
If you have ideas for how this project can be developed and would like to come along as an individual or representing a group or organisation please let the Clerk know via shercouncil@btconnect.com or tel 01263 822213

The charity now has two specially adapted cruisers with ramps, lifts and open plan level floors to provide safe access for people and wheelchairs. The boats are run by highly trained volunteers who take parties of up to 12 people afloat on subsidised cruises on our beautiful Broads (subsidised rates require at least one person to have an impairment that prevents them enjoying a cruise on a standard boat.).
Last year we took bookings from care homes, support groups, families, schools, private parties, clubs, associations, and community groups. Each cruise is tailored to the group so, for example, on some trips the families have decorated the boat for anniversaries and birthday parties. On other occasions the skipper has tracked wildlife, manoeuvring the boat so that eagle-eyed bird watchers can take their photographs, and on another trip the boat has rendezvoused with the ice-cream boat so that children with sight impairments could choose their treat!
The boats sail from Norwich, Stalham, and Brundall and the season commences with half and full day trips on 1 April. See the website for more details http://www.waveneystardust.co.uk Sheringham Independent 483

Rotary Young Musician of the Year District Final
The District Final of the Rotary Young Musician Competition 2018 was held in the Fishmongers' Recital Hall, at Gresham's School, Holt, by kind permission of the Headmaster, Douglas Robb.
Help Needed
I'm a fun-loving visually impaired lady in the Sheringham area seeking support with activities and domestic tasks! £8 per hour, 2 posts at 10 hpw each plus further cover hours available. Car owner/driver essential. If you have a caring, empathetic nature, please apply! Closing date: 30 March. For details: Job Reference 5457 Telephone (01508) 491222
The event was hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Holt and Broadland. John Rampling, principal organiser, commented “The audience of around 120 was wonderfully entertained with wide range of music. The twelve aspiring young musicians from Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire did justice to the magnificent state of the art recital hall which is part of the £6.5m Britten Building Music complex”.
The winner of the Instrumental Section was Colette Maxwell-Preston, a gifted 10 year old from Hillside Avenue Primary School, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich. The runner-up was 11 year old flautist Gwilym Howarth from Uggeshall. He attends Southwold Primary School. The winner of the Voice section was Rosie Ashdown-Nichol aged 11 from Thurlton, and the runner-up was Emily Ringwood aged 16 from Sacred Heart School, Swaffham. We wish them all every success as they proceed to the Rotary Regional Final in April at Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire and possibly to the National Final at Edinburgh in May.
The three adjudicators, Stephen Miles, Alison Cox OBE and Jane Roberson, each L to R DG Robert Lovick, Collette MaxwellPreston, Gwilym Howarth, Rosie Ashdown-Nichol, renowned in their specialist fields, were Emily Ringwood, Holt Rotary President Nick Bell faced with a complex task in the judging, but made special mention of Calypso de and organiser Holt Rotarian John Rampling Volkovitch aged 9 who played the drums, a promising talent and certainly one to watch out for in the future.
The Rotary District Governor Robert Lovick, and District Youth Service Chairman Bill Redmayne were present and reminded the gathering of other Rotary competitions which encourage young people to show their talents, including Public Speaking, Writing, Photography, Technology and Chef.
Supporting The Countryside Restoration Trust
After successfully raising over £19,000 for Songbird Survival, Eddie Bullimore and Lynn Frarey are now going to start raising money for another charity, The Countryside Restoration Trust.
Eddie and Lynn have been shown around (Mayfield) Themelthorpe and Eddie said he was very impressed, not only with everything about nature, but also the education for children - flowers, insects, birds and wildlife are so very important for the younger generation.
They would be pleased to receive anything that they can put into their sales and can be contacted on 01692 400780.

PREPARING FOR A BUSY SCHEDULE
Jane Bussey, Musical Director of the Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band (CSBB) is preparing the musicians for the busy schedule of 2018.
Currently twenty engagements have been confirmed for the period April to December, and there are further enquiries in the pipeline awaiting an agreeable slot in the calendar. Many of the bookings are for ongoing annual events so dates for 2019 will also be blocked in before the year is out. Furthermore, the Band will be out in December playing carols for shoppers, and sharing the collection with a local or national charity.
CSBB is, however, facing a problem in being able to fill vacancies arising from retiring musicians and long term absences due to ill health. This is particularly relevant to the cornet section although additional bass players would be very welcome, as indeed would any other brass musicians who feel they might like to join us. Although the Band is fortunate in being able to call on support from other local bands this is not an option when engagements clash.
CSBB would therefore be pleased to hear from brass musicians who are new to our catchment area or have recently retired or even feel they now have time to return to playing.
The Band, a group of very friendly men and women, meets every Thursday evening at Upper Sheringham Village Hall at 7.30pm. So, if you have the time and feel that you might like to learn more about us, please contact the Band by calling Jane Bussey, Musical Director on 01263 821013, David Williams, Chairman on 01263 515636 or Steve Askew, Secretary on 01263 838411.
Fairtrade Coffee Morning
It was a bitterly cold and snowy day for the first event of Fairtrade Fortnight, a Coffee Morning at St Peter's Church, Sheringham on Tuesday, 27 February.
We were delighted to see so many people, including the Mayor, Mark Hill and his wife, Thelma. Everyone enjoyed the competitions and stalls, but especially the delicious home-made biscuits and cakes, made with Fairtrade products.
The profits, ÂŁ128.33, will be sent to the Fairtrade Charity, Traidcraft Exchange. The UK Government is matching all contributions to this Charity until April so twice as many people living in poverty in the developing World will be reached!
Thank you very much, Brenda Smith and Fairtrade for Sheringham
WHY CHOOSE SILVER SIL VER & W ARD WARD SOLICITORS SOLICIT ORS in 201 ? 201 ?
“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.
I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offers offers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT APPOINTMENT,, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. offer fer the same I advise new clients to “shop around as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can of expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norfolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 201 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 823465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

Step closer to a cure for Parkinson’s in Norfolk
People in Norfolk are being asked to unite with thousands of others across the UK and step closer to a cure for Parkinson’s. Walk for Parkinson’s at Blickling Estate takes place on Saturday 12 May, and is one of a series of walk events to be held across the UK for Parkinson’s UK during 2018.
There are a range of distances on offer to suit everyone, with a two-mile, 3.5-mile and 5.5-mile walk to choose from. So whether you’re up for a challenging walk or a gentle stroll, there is something for everyone. Team entries are welcome, so why not sign up with your friends, family and colleagues.
important for people with Parkinson’s as research shows that two and half hours of exercise a week can help slow progression of symptoms. Exercise also has a positive impact on wellbeing and mental health.
Sky Sports Presenter and Champion of Walking for Parkinson’s UK Dave Clark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011. He is a keen walker himself and is encouraging people to get involved.
He said “We want to make 2018 our biggest year yet for the Walk for Parkinson’s series. I’d like to invite everyone, whatever their level of Walking and other types of exercise is particularly fitness, to take advantage of the many different types of walks, scenic routes and distances available. Changes Afoot in Cromer
"I can be contacted on mobile 07767492456 and customers can still drop off their repairs at 7 Church Street or at Unit D , Home farm Enterprise Zone , Hall Road Cromer," Richard commented.
It is only the name that is going as Francis (Frank) Stewart with his mother Sally are taking over the business. The name will be Brightside Electrical Ltd.
Frank started as a Saturday boy and is now a fully qualified electrician. He is very popular with our customers, especially the older ladies! Sally has been with the business for just over 2 years on the accounts and admin side.
The rest of the contracting staff will remain the same.
"We hope that everyone will give Frank and Sally their full support and we wish them well in their new venture."

North East Norfolk Bird Club 'Two Galahs Down Under' talk with Ann Duff at Aylmerton Village Hall, NR11 8PX. 29 March 7.30pm – 9.30pm - Ann’s talk will take us on an extensive Australian journey from Sydney to Deniliquin via Capertee Valley, then on to Melbourne and west to the Strzelecki and Birdsville Tracks, before exploring the Great Ocean Road and finally flying to Tasmania. Ann began birding in the 1980s as a result of chauffeuring her two sons to Cliffe Marshes, Dungeness and the Isle of Sheppey, and thence further afield. She started twitching after failing to identify a Sociable Lapwing on the Dartford Marshes in 1985. Since retiring she has travelled widely in search of the more colourful species of birds, with more than a passing interest in mammals. Please park along Church Road or in the overflow car park at the church. Please ensure that local residents can still access their driveways and there is sufficient

It is being staged with a chamber orchestra at The Auden Theatre, Gresham’s School , Holt at 7.30pm on Thursday 12, Friday 13 and Saturday 14 April.
“Thus courage has triumphed and virtue will rise”, the final words of the opera, express the understandings of true love, truth and wisdom as the last pieces fall into place and balance is restored.
NNCO is a small opera company with big ambitions! It has been performing at The Auden Theatre annually since 2000. Formed in 1990, it remains the only amateur opera company performing in Norfolk. The Magic Flute is filled with Mozart’s melodic, infectious and glorious music and is bound to be a popular choice.
We wholeheartedly believe that opera is for all and North Norfolk Chamber Opera welcomes you to come and experience this production. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised and it could be the start of your own journey into opera.

Life is for living with the support of My Guide end with a coffee and cake! Lisa also meets Karen in Norwich for a coffee, which is also adding to her increasing confidence.
Has your sight loss affected your health and wellbeing and stopped you from doing the things you used to do?
The charity Guide Dogs provides more than just a dog. My Guide is a service that can provide you with a volunteer to help increase your confidence, fitness and enable you to get out and about in your community. This could be a trip to the local cafĂŠ, joining a new social group or walking around your local area to increase your confidence.
Lisa has also started to learn how to use the long cane, which has started to open her world. Lisa says “since I have been cane training my confidence has soared. It’s lovely to have my independence back and get out there again.
“I am so thankful for Guide Dogs and My Guide for their support in helping me to independence again.
Kerry Matthews, My Guide Ambassador said
Lisa, a mum of two was diagnosed with a condition which affected her peripheral vision called Retinitis Pigmentosa at the age of 21. In the beginning, Lisa’s life wasn’t affected by the condition. However, as the years passed it was a roller coaster of highs and lows, gradually losing confidence as her eye sight worsened.
Earlier last year, Lisa was introduced to a My Guide volunteer, Karen. Lisa and Karen meet up once a week and join in with walks organised by the local rambling group. These walks range in difficulty and length but always

Sounds Adorable
I adore little children and babies, Especially when they’re only months old. Even the tots who throw tantrums and scream, Are so cute, you really can’t scold! I adore dogs and all new born puppies, Especially those who had a bad start. Though they chew everything into pieces, They’ve a way of melting your heart. I adore watching bonfires and fireworks, Especially the colours so bright. They light up the sky like a rainbow, With their breathtaking flashes of light.
If there’s one wish I have, it’s a small one, For they all touch my heart and my soul. When they cry, or bark, or go off with a bang, I can switch off the volume control! Frances Wraight

Holway Road Roundabout may be turning a step closer A roundabout at the junction of the A148/Holway Road has taken a step forward after the 'Roundabout Team' - Judy Oliver (Sheringham County Councillor/Sheringham South District Councillor), Dick Shepherd (Sheringham South District Councillor), David Ward (Sheringham Town Councillor) and Mike Knowles (Beeston Regis and Upper Sheringham District Councillor) have been getting promises of financial contributions towards the scheme. The Roundabout Team have also approached the LEP for help. Now, following these efforts, the County Council has recently commissioned a brief for feasibility work to be done.

Judy Oliver said 'I am delighted that County have commissioned a brief for feasibility work to be carried out. The Roundabout Team have worked very hard to secure offers of help towards the cost of a roundabout because a roundabout will only happen with partnership funding. Once the feasibility work is completed we can take the next steps towards achieving our goal'. Mike Knowles added ' I think it's great that Sheringham Town Council and my Parish Councils - Beeston Regis and Upper Sheringham - are so firmly behind this proposal. They all know how vital it is to have a roundabout to help traffic flow and to deter traffic displacing through Upper Sheringham and along Britons Lane. A roundabout will also help residents in the Runtons who use Sheringham for shopping and leisure as there will be less traffic using the A149.'
David Ward further added 'Sheringham Town Council have promised a very generous contribution towards this important roundabout. There is near unanimous support for a roundabout at the top of Holway Road because people can see what a big difference that will make'.
Dick Shepherd, currently also Chairman of NNDC said 'Sheringham is a vital part of our tourism industry which many of our residents and businesses depend upon. Making it easy and safe for drivers to come and go from Sheringham will be hugely valuable. First Highlights announced for Holt Festival’s tenth anniversary
North Norfolk’s award-winning Holt Festival is planning to celebrate its tenth anniversary in style judging by the ‘early’ announcements that have just been made ahead of the full programme being revealed later in the year. The 2018 Festival runs from 21 – 29 July.
He promises to thrill the Theatre in the Woods audience on Saturday 28 July with a crowd-pleasing romp through his best-loved songs.
Jasper Carrott, one of the UK’s favourite comedians, has recovered from the health scare that caused him to cancel last year’s appearance at short notice. He is thrilled to be bringing his show Stand Up & Rock, combining stand up comedy with an all-star band featuring Bev Bevan, founding member of ELO and The Move. Jasper said ‘I’m really pleased to be coming to Holt after the disappointment of last year’s cancellation. It’s a thrill to be invited to fill the outdoor theatre with laughter and music for the closing concert’.
Another household name headed for Holt is chart topping singer, songwriter and entertainer Leo Sayer. Leo first hit the charts in 1973 and his ‘Gold Collection’ album returned him there in January 2018.
There’s a welcome return for Colin Cloud with his astounding deductions and Jasper Carrott outrageous stunts. He describes his new show as ‘designed to challenge your perception of the world, the light and the dark.’ Other shows have been announced from former leader of the Liberal Democrats Lord (Paddy) Ashdown, James Gilchrist, one of the UK’s leading tenors, and an exclusive show from Italian classical piano megastar Gloria Campaner who teams up with Polish jazz star Leszek Możdżer for ‘Two Pianos’. Pianist Lucy Parham is joined by actor Alex Jennings (recently seen on TV as Prince Leopold in ITV’s Victoria) to tell the story of composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Artistic Director Stash Kirkbride said ‘I hope this initial selection of acts gives a taste of our intentions for this year. I can’t wait to tell the world about the full programme with more big names to announce alongside acts that I think will become firm favourites in the future’.

Do you remember Sheringham in 1946?
After the marshes were mown on Sheringham and Beeston Common last September a small ridge-like feature was noticed.
The feature runs from the high ground on the northwest corner of Pill-box hill across the marsh to high ground on the west side of the Sheringham Common valley. It has been attributed to a WWII defensive structure that is associated with an underground command headquarters, which was situated on the western edge of Pill-box hill. The ridge or embankment rises to almost 2m above the marsh and it has been proposed that it may have formed a dam blocking the streams, which then backed up and flooded the marsh to form part of the defence of the HQ. The HQ is reported to have been blown up by the army in 1946 and no trace of it remains to-day.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who was around or have been told by older generations when the HQ was destroyed or can help with the purpose and nature of the embankment. Please contact me by email or the postal address below.

Summer bodies are made in winter
Summer is round the corner and the sooner we start to prepare for it, the more time we have to show results. Here is a selection of our treatments that you can benefit from.
Varicose and Thread Veins Changing options for the treatment of unwanted veins. Days of open surgery, prolonged bruising and painful recovery are long gone. How can a beam of light replace a surgeon’s knife? Is this too good to be true? Not any more. Non-invasive methods are replacing surgery at a very fast rate. So much so that NICE -The National Institute of Clinical Excellence has updated it’s guidelines on the treatment of varicose veins. It has recommended Endovenous laser treatment as the preferred option, foam injections second and surgery where the first two options are not suitable or declined. So come and see us to help you get rid of those unwanted veins anywhere on your face or body.
Safe and effective Laser Hair Removal and Tattoo removal for all skin types. Why it is a great idea to see us. When it comes to laser hair and tattoo removal it is the wild west in this country. There is no shortage of new places opening up at every corner. We are seeing increasing number of patients who are either dissatisfied or have been harmed because of poorly trained and unregulated providers and cheap copycat or downright dangerous and unapproved machines.
As we all know one size does not fit all. There is simply no machine which is suitable for every person’s needs. With this in mind, we have invested heavily in modern high-end medical machines that have undergone rigorous testing and evaluation. All our therapists also undergo rigorous initial and on going training in laser safety.
We have helped thousands of patients remove unwanted hair, ingrowing hair and rashes, pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps) and even helped patients with poly-cystic ovaries.
Thanks to our proven gold-standard lasers and extensive experience we are able to treat every skin type- from very fair to dark skin patients.
Laser Liposuction This is the perfect time to consider liposuction for reducing unwanted areas of fat. The procedure is carried out purely under local anaesthesia on a walk-in, walk-out basis and most patients are recovered by 3-5 days. Medically supervised weight loss treatments are also available.

Far too young
Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr
Almost half of people in the UK (47%) have never discussed inheritance with their families and a quarter of them (26%) do not think it is a priority. According to this recent poll, the reason is that most people do not think that they are old enough to worry about it.
Government statistics show that Inheritance Tax (IHT) raised £4.9billion in the last financial year. Although this is partly due to rising property prices and a freezing of the IHT threshold, it is also down to poor planning.
This is because it is a highly emotional subject, as entirely understandably, people generally don’t like talking about money or death! The research also shows that one in ten people would like to get to grips with it but just haven’t found the right time, or just don’t know where to start.
This is why a general review of your affairs can be so helpful. Solicitors especially, much more than accountants, have a wide range of skills to enable a number of different possible arrangements to be put in place. Often a review takes place at the same time as making an up-to-date tax-efficient Will. We can talk with you about making gifts of assets and advising on what to give, how to give it and to whom. Issues specific to the older or more vulnerable client can also be sensitively considered. We can see you alone or with family members. However, we are

I now have a total of 40 in care. Every hut is occupied and six containers are in use. Running out of space, two vulnerable ones are residing in their containers in the lounge!
With the recent freezing weather, there is no chance of releasing any that are ready to go. Of the ones in the outside huts, most are still hibernating to keep them warm.

professionally bound and highly-trained to ensure that there is no undue influence and that questions of mental capacity are thoroughly and gently considered.
All this can be interwoven with addressing potential lifetime tax planning issues such as a Capital Gains Tax (CGT) liability, which can often be managed or delayed using a number of possible methods.
It was a distinguished Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer who said wryly that Inheritance Tax is a voluntary tax paid by those who trust their families less than they trust the tax man.

I gave them lots of extra bedding. Amazingly Duster and Mr Prickles have still been coming out every evening and feeding. The hardest part has been trying to keep their water from freezing over.
Willow, whom I mentioned last time, has responded well to her treatment. She is eating very well and is gaining weight so it's looking good for her to be released at a later date.
As the weather turns milder hedgehogs will be awaking from hibernation very hungry and thirsty so please put out a shallow dish of water and a tasty treat of dog or cat food (not in gravy or fish flavour).

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
Taz, Treacle and Tripod, the three remaining cats which were waiting to come in, are now in care and have quickly adapted to their new surroundings. Once they have been checked by the vets and vaccinated they will be available for adoption. We are extremely grateful to the lady who has taken care of them, and, on behalf of the cats, thank her for all her help.
The branch has been running for nearly nineteen years and during that time we have re-homed many cats and kittens. When they leave we always advise the new family to keep them in for several weeks to allow them to get used to their new home before venturing outside. Although most follow our advice there have been a few occasions when a cat has escaped, much to their new family’s distress. I can remember one instance several years ago where the cat flap was set to allow existing cats to come in but not to let the new ones out. The two new cats had worked out that if they positioned themselves nearby they could pull the cat flap door up and make their escape. One was quickly caught but the other was missing for several days before being found hiding in a neighbour’s garage.
Faith, a quite timid little cat, the last of the cats from the group taken in last year, decided to go one better. She had only been in her home for a few days and appeared to have settled and was beginning to enjoy the chance to sit on a lap and receive lots of attention. However, during the night she smashed through the locked cat flap and made a dash for freedom. Her new family contacted us for advice as they were very upset for this to have happened and desperate to have her back. A cat trap was put in place but on the first night she managed to take the food without setting it off. Although there was just one sighting of her we believed she was still in the area as most cats will hide in these circumstances. We were all really concerned when the weather deteriorated during her
second week of freedom. We know that cats are quite resilient and will find shelter in these circumstances (to feral cats it is second nature to do this). Imagine our delight to receive a call just two weeks after her escape to learn that she had finally been caught and was now safely back in her home, receiving lots of fuss and attention. She has lost some weight, which is understandable in the circumstances, but is really glad to back inside. The cat flap has now been boarded up to prevent further escapes until she is Faith, now safely home with ready to go outside again and the cat her family trap has already been out with another family who recently re-homed cats from us. In this instance the cat escaped from its harness on its first walk outside. Thankfully, within a day, she had been caught and is now safely back in her new home! Cats can be very clever and sometimes find their human companions easy to outwit.
If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 it (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.
If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.
We are now on Facebook. You can find us under Cats Protection North Walsham.

Woman given suspended jail sentence for animal cruelty at illegal puppy farm Successful prosecution brought by North Norfolk District Council A woman has been jailed for 22 weeks – suspended for two years – after pleading guilty to two charges of keeping a dog-breeding establishment without a licence, and a further 15 charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal or failing to ensure the welfare of an animal.
Rosemary Fabb, of Carr Lane, Roughton, near Cromer, was sentenced at Norwich Magistrates’ Court after being caught in an undercover sting by North Norfolk District Council officers.
Mrs Fabb was also ordered to pay NNDC’s full costs, of £12,616, as well

as a victim surcharge.
Mrs Fabb had been running an unlicensed puppy farm from outbuildings at her home address. Following indications that Mrs Fabb was breeding without a licence, North Norfolk District Council officers visited the premises in early 2017 and bought a puppy.
A warrant was then obtained and NNDC officers accompanied by the police and a vet returned to the site in February last year.
A number of dirty, matted and unsocialised dogs were found on the premises, living in cold and small pens in agricultural outbuildings that contained faeces and urine. There was evidence of a breeding operation and no indication that the dogs had been let out of their pens. Despite a number of dogs being kept in each pen, only one basket per pen was provided, and most of those lacked any bedding. The vet found that many of the dogs had untreated illnesses and conditions.
Last November, Mrs Fabb pleaded guilty to operating a dog-breeding establishment without a licence but not guilty to a number of charges relating to animal welfare, and a trial date was set. Since then, a further visit was made to her premises, in January this year, when more evidence of an unlicensed dog-breeding establishment was found. The condition of the premises had deteriorated further, and this visit resulted in a number of further animal-welfare charges and one further dog-breeding charge being brought. Mrs Fabb signed the dogs over to the RSPCA to avoid them being seized by NNDC, and all 10 dogs have now been rehomed.
Cllr Richard Price, North Norfolk District Council Portfolio Holder for Licensing, said “This shows that we can and we will prosecute, and it should be a warning for others. We don’t take enforcement lightly but we do take animal welfare very seriously, and our licensing team will take action whenever necessary. It also highlights the usefulness of the Regulatory Investigatory Powers Act 2000, which helped us secure the evidence required to prosecute this case.”

SOLEMN MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER, WITH WATCH UNTIL MIDNIGHT 7.30 pm at St Joseph’s, Cromer Road, Sheringham. A property known as Claremont House in Church Street was purchased for £1,600 and with the help of Baptists in Norwich, the gothic style red brick building was erected on the site at a cost of £1,300 and opened for worship on 1 January 1903.
The architect was A F Scott, who worked a lot in Cromer, particularly in Cliff Avenue. Although an impressive building, as a congregation we are aware of its limitations for today’s church and have been praying and looking for alternative accommodation for some years.
We are very grateful to the Methodists for giving us the use of East Runton Methodist Chapel where we commenced services on 14 January.
This is a far more practical and welcoming building. We are now meeting there every Sunday at 10.30am and 5pm with our Bible study and prayer meeting each Tuesday at 7pm. There is also a ladies’ meeting fortnightly on Thursdays at 10.30am and an Oasis friendship group fortnightly on Thursdays at 2.30pm.
We look forward to new people joining us at our new venue.
