Upper Sheringham Bells will be ringing out again soon!

We are delighted to report that the appeal is progressing so well that, if all goes to plan, we will be ringing the bells in time for Remembrance this year, and certainly by Christmas. Remember to listen out for us!

We still need to raise the last bit of the money – please do consider helping us with this last push – what better legacy than to be able to say “I helped those bells ring out again”.

We are already training new bellringers at nearby St Andrew’s in Holt who will also help with ringing the bells at All Saints Upper Sheringham – but we are always keen to teach new people so if you ever fancied trying your hand at this ancient art get in touch!

It’s nothing like you see on the television – you do not fly through the air, you do not need to be strong, you do not need to be musical or mathematical – Continued on page 4...

Sheringham Independent Issue 511 11th May 2019

Upper Sheringham Bells will be ringing out again soon!

KELLING PROBUS CLUB

Kelling Probus Club held its April lunch meeting at The Dales Hotel Upper Sheringham. Seventeen members were present and after a tasty lunch Chairman Andrew Hyatt welcomed our speaker Robert Smith who talked about Wells-next-the -Sea and his job as harbour master there.

Continued from front cover... - you just need a sense of rhythm and a sense of humour!

As we start dismantling the fixtures and fittings prior to the bells being taken to the bell works in Dorset, we will have a few items we could sell as mementoes of this project – we will have some clappers, chiming hammers, pulley blocks and an odd selection of handbells in varying conditions. Get in touch if you would like more information or would like to make an offer for anything or come and have a look at what we have. We won’t charge extra for the rust and dust!! The photo shows an example of a clapper (from a different church, we haven’t removed ours yet) and the actual handbells and pulley blocks and other random items that we are offering.

Robert’s talk was not only interesting but also humorous and entertaining.

He began by telling us of his early life involving the sea and his early working for a shipping company and fishing on his father’s boat.

After this he became assistant, deputy and eventually harbour master. Robert told us that the harbour was originally much further inland, and the new harbour was built in 1847 financed by bonds and some donations from local gentry and traders. In 2010 a High Commission set up a harbour board and it still works well.

The harbour employs more than 200 people in various trades. One of the things Robert found difficult was all the bureaucracy involved and the huge amount of paper work. However he still loved all the work round the Wells Harbour area. His staff checked every arrival and departure and kept their eyes open for any one breaking the law such as smuggling and illegal migration.

Another exciting bit of news is that we have been accepted into the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ scheme in their stores in Sheringham and Mundesley– throughout May and June we will be one of their chosen charities so please remember to pick up your blue token at the till and vote for us!

How to donate: If you would like to donate towards giving our 6 bells their voices back please send your donation to Sue Morton, 4 Linden Grove, Sheringham, NR26 8PD. Cheques payable to “Upper Sheringham PCC”.

He was asked lots of questions about his job and answered them honestly and clearly. He was given a hearty vote of thanks by Gary Mitchell.

Next month’s speaker will be Chris Wiltshire talking on 'Life Unplanned'

If you are able to gift aid your donation, please ask me for a gift aid form – 01263 826078 or suejmorton@gmail.com.

We meet every third Thursday in the month at the Dales for lunch and a speaker. If you are interested call John Whittington on 01263 820333.

A big thank you to those who have donated so far – we couldn’t do it without you!

Eggs with a Message

If you prefer to donate on-line please go to: www.gofundme.com/upper-sheringham-bell-appeal.

On Easter Saturday morning five members of St Andrew’s Methodist Church took to the packed streets of Sheringham, armed with baskets overflowing with over 400 Easter eggs, which had been given by church members and friends.

Sue Morton, Upper Sheringham Bell Appeal Coordinator

Attached to each egg was a colourful card with the message ‘For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die, but have eternal life’.

The Easter eggs were given to passers-by, market stallholders and shopkeepers as well as to those who had ventured onto the promenade. Some lovely conversations were had, and pleasure given and received during this special time.

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER & WARD WARD SILVER SOLICITORS in in 2019? 20 19 ? SOLICITORS

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”

I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked fo or 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offffers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 2019 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 823465 0 1263 8 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

Itteringham Open Gardens and Shop

The small village of Itteringham near Aylsham has a hidden gem at the heart of the community.

The Village Shop has been in existence since 1637 providing the locals with goods and services. It was once owned by Lord Walpole’s estate and the freehold was sold off in 1996. At the time, a meeting was held in the village and the decision made to lease the business from private owners so that the shop could continue. This year is the 25th anniversary of the shop being opened as a community business.

Today it is run by a combination of paid members of staff, a part time postmistress, and lots of volunteers who freely give their time to ensure the shop continues to be a valuable resource for the village and surrounding area.

The Royal British Legion Halsey House 31 Norwich Road Cromer Norfolk NR27 0BA

The shop and cafe are supported by many loyal customers and is a favourite with cyclists and walkers. It has won awards including an East Anglia Countryside Alliance Award. The shop also supports 55 local producers and firms by selling their products.

Day Care Services at Halsey House. We provide Social Care Day Facilities for ex-service personnel & their dependants.

Having been threatened with closure, the 2017 Save Our Shop campaign concluded with NNDC stepping in to purchase the premises and secure the shop’s future.

If you are feeling lonely & would enjoy some company & social stimulation in a warm, frriendly environment, or need a break from caring for a loved one, then our team of frriendly staff are here for you.

The committee that run the shop have a variety of plans regarding how to take the shop forwards in the years to come. Inevitably fundraising is essential to make these plans reality.

Day Care runs Monday – Friday 9.30am – 3.00pm ȋ provided within a 6 mile radius).

To that end, the Itteringham Open Gardens event is taking place on 2 June, from 11am – 5pm, entry to around 10 beautiful gardens is just £5, including a guide map which is available from the Village Hall.

Day Care for those living with dementia offers stimulation & company in a smaller & secure environment & runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9.30am – 3.00pm.

All proceeds from the day will go to keeping this little gem open for business!

For more information please call: Julie Fields, Head of ay Care, on 01263 517938

As well as viewing the gardens there will be a pop-up ice cream kiosk in the bus shelter, local produce and light refreshments to buy at the Village Hall and teas at the shop’s cafe.

War Memorial Garden

Cllr Withington, who has been working on this project as part of the Town Centre Greening project, together with Sheringham in Bloom, pointed out “ this is very much a community space and therefore we would like to give the residents of the town , in particular those people and organisations with a strong connection to the War Memorial, the opportunity to come along and share in the initial design process and collection of ideas.

As part of a project for the Greening of Sheringham and also to improve general maintenance of green areas the Town Council are working with North Norfolk District Council to revamp the War Memorial Community Garden.

This is a very open space, close to the seafront and therefore has difficult climatic conditions in which to survive. The aim therefore is to regenerate the garden with sustainable planting that can tolerate our changing climatic conditions.

A meeting will be held at the Sheringham Community Centre on 21 May from 2pm - 4pm as a workshop to gather ideas and share different views. The Community Centre is fully accessible and tea and coffee will be provided.

Cllr Ashcroft stated that “as our War Memorial Gardens it is important not only for it to be an attractive and relaxing place for locals and visitors to enjoy but importantly it must reflect the importance that the town places on honouring

“We look forward to seeing as many people as possible with an interest in this special space said Cllr Ashcroft.

Readers Write ...

Dear Margaret,

Sheringham in Bloom is now working toward the planting of the flower displays in all our planters around the town, and hope to have this completed by the end of May. We will also be putting 42 hanging baskets around the town. As well as that there are half a dozen beds and gardens that we look after, including the roundabout and Otterndorf Green which need to be looked after throughout the year. Some plants need replacing and the weeding needs attention every week. For anyone who is interested we will be meeting on the 20th May at 10.00am at the Station road car park to clear all the existing plants from the planters, and then again on the 23rd at the same place to plant up the new summer displays. Anyone who would like to help would be most welcome.

All letters must be supplied with name and full address (full address will not be published). Anonymous letters will not be published. Comments, views and opinions in readers letters are not necessarily shared by the editors or the publisher and we reserve the right to edit or not publish.

Dear Margaret,

I work for a charity (Change, Grow, Live) which delivers the Norfolk Independent Visitors Service and we are desperate to recruit committed and passionate volunteers who would like to spend a day a month with a young person in care.

The children and young people we work with have suffered abuse, neglect and often both; they often mistrust adults and need positive role models to show them that relationships can be trusting, healthy and positive.

As well as all that we are at the time of year when we approach all our sponsors who have been so very supportive of us in the past. Sponsorship money is used solely to provide a good display of flowers in our planters throughout the year and we hope this helps to make Sheringham a truly attractive town. If anyone is interested in sponsoring one of our displays they can start from a little as ÂŁ25.00, and if you would rather just make a small donation this would be most gratefully received.

The role of an Independent Visitor can be immensely rewarding and fun - taking a child or teenager out once a month to have fun together by engaging in community activities or visiting places of interest.

Minimum age for volunteer applicants is 21 and minimum commitment is for 2 years, once a month. Full training and support is provided, plus reimbursement of reasonable expenses.

Thank you to everyone who supports Sheringham in Bloom, and we hope the coming summer will be a colourful one.

Priscilla Bacon Hospice charity shop in North Walsham celebrates 1st birthday

One of the six charity shops set up in Norfolk, to help fund the building of the new Priscilla Bacon Hospice has just celebrated its first year of trading.

Shop Manager Sarah Andrews said "The shop has received so many compliments on its smart appearance and the quality of stock donated by our many supporters. The shop includes two rooms of ladies’, men’s and children’s Jenny (Volunteer) fashion, as well as a dedicated vintage area, and two rooms filled with electricals, household goods and small furniture.”

Six Priscilla Bacon Hospice charity shops, located in North Walsham, Aylsham, Stalham, Sheringham, Drayton and Taverham, were established to help underpin the fundraising operation and ensure that 93 pence in every pound raised is committed to the campaign

to build the new hospice.

The shops also raise awareness of the charity and act as local hubs to extend support from the wider community.

Priscilla Bacon Hospice is a new charity which has recently launched a campaign to raise £12.5 million to build a new hospice with 24 inpatient beds and replace Priscilla Bacon Lodge, the existing specialist hospice facility in Norwich.

Jessica (Volunteer), Caroline (Deputy Manager), Sarah (Manager), Marjorie, Joy, and Clare (Volunteers)

Priscilla Bacon Lodge was built 40 years ago, following a county-wide fundraising appeal and has provided a very high standard of specialist palliative care. Despite its achievements, it is now inadequate both in scale and configuration, as the population of Norfolk has grown by approximately 220,000 in this time, multiplying demand, and in its current location it cannot be extended.

The new hospice will be built adjacent to the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital and will have improved day care and outpatients’ facilities, as well as a coordination centre for the ‘Hospice at Home’ team, who deliver end-of-life care in the community.

North Walsham shop staff, volunteers and shoppers celebrated the birthday with cake. Bryan Saunders, Head of Retail said "We are so grateful to the residents of North Walsham for their support over the year. Our staff and volunteers love meeting and talking to the shoppers and donors of stock. If you would like to support the shop, donations of quality goods can be made directly to the shop at 15 Market Place, and we are always pleased to hear from new volunteers to join the team.”

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

Poppy went back to the vets once she had finished the course of antibiotics she was taking and because the head tilt had not gone completely, she has another course of treatment and will be going back once this is completed. She is a very gentle little cat and enjoys watching the world pass by her pen.

When cats and kittens leave us for their new homes, we always advise their new family what type of food they have been eating and the type of cat litter they are used to. We always suggest they initially continue to use the same food as any change can upset their digestive system and can lead to the cat having diarrhoea. It is always better to introduce these changes gradually to avoid upsets. Similarly, with cat litter, they will have been used to either the clay lump or wood chip (depending on which fosterer they are with) and together with all the changes they experience when going to a new home, may not use the litter tray if the contents are unfamiliar to them. Again, introducing the litter you wish to use in future gradually, will make life easier for both you and your new family member.

Under the Animal Welfare Act all pet owners have a duty of care to provide their pets with a suitable environment and diet where they can behave normally and also ensure they are protected from pain, suffering injury and disease. Such was not the case for one little stray we took in recently. Quinsy was in a dreadful state, very underweight and with matted fur. During the two days he was with us his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the vets where sadly he had to be put to sleep as it was believed he was a victim of FELV. His fosterer was so concerned she did feel he could have died before actually seeing the vet. Obviously, his owners had not shown a duty of care for him and had they been identified, we would have referred this to the RSPCA who would have probably prosecuted them. This poor little cat did not

deserve such irresponsible owners and they certainly should not be owning any animals.

If you are interested in receiving help Olga is a timid young cat who will need lots of to neuter your time to settle in her new home cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.

We are now on Facebook. You can find us under Cats Protection North Walsham.

Hedgehog Haven

Stan (pictured) is the newest arrival.

Out during the day, he was found by a dog walker just around the corner from where I live so his finder ran to find me.

He's a small hog just 270grms. Another one who has probably been struggling through the winter, he is slowly gaining weight, but will be quite some time before he is big enough to release.

To coincide with Hedgehog Awareness week, North Walsham Garden Centre are having a Hedgehog Day on Saturday 11 May between 10am and 3pm. Hodomodes Hedgehog Support will be there with an all things hedgehog stall, I will be in attendance with information leaflets, a tombola and, all being well, a hedgehog.

Breaking the impasse... resolving conflict using mediation techniques

Amanda Nudds, Solicitor & Mediator, Hayes + Storr Solicitors

The seemingly interminable failure of MPs to agree Britain’s withdrawal agreement from the EU is typical of many intractable disputes. At some point in our lives, most of us will find ourselves at odds with someone over something. Each person will have their own ideas about what’s right (usually based on what’s most important to them) but that can result in both parties being totally unable to agree an outcome – and a stalemate ensues.

Breaking that impasse can seem difficult, if not impossible. And that’s where mediation comes in. A form of dispute resolution used to prevent (or conclude) court proceedings. Here are ten useful techniques used in mediation to help find a settlement:

1. PARTICIPATION It’s important that both parties are willing to engage in the process, can put forward proposals as well as consider any proposals received.

2. EVIDENCE Both parties must be upfront and make available all key documentary evidence – so each side can understand the other’s position.

3. STATE YOUR POSITION Make your position clear at the outset, as it may be that one party has misinterpreted the other’s position. Explain what you believe to be right and what you hope to achieve.

4. WORK TOWARDS A SETTLEMENT Initially, each party’s aim will be to win, but it’s important to realise that resolution isn’t going to be a ‘win’ for one and a ‘loss’ for another – it will be a compromise that enables both parties to move on.

5. BE RESPECTFUL Whatever your feelings, it’s important to treat the other party with respect. Being insulting only creates more barriers and makes it more difficult for any resolution to be achieved.

6. BE PERSUASIVE Highlight the merits of your position so the other party can see that their point of view may not be as strong as they

originally believed. This can also bring the other party’s attention to the mutual benefits of a deal.

7. INTERESTS Identifying the other party’s interests can be difficult – but once you’ve asked questions and gleaned more information on what they want to achieve, you’ll have a much better understanding of what can be done.

8. BRAINSTORMING Neither party is going to leave with a settlement that includes everything they want. Explore and identify options which will satisfy both parties.

A vibrant, welcoming school “where my child can thrive and do well” Ofsted praises Norfolk primary school’s ‘inquisitive learners’ and ‘strong nurturing and caring culture’

Aldborough Primary School in North Norfolk has just had an Ofsted inspection during which it was praised for its standards of teaching and the rich curriculum it encourages. The inspection reported that the school “continues to be good,” praising the changes that had been made to maintain and improve its high standards.

Ofsted described the school as ‘vibrant’, with a ‘strong nurturing and caring culture,’ adding that all teaching staff know every pupil very well and concentrate on ensuring that their individual academic, social and emotional needs are met. “Consequently, pupils make good progress,” the inspector said, adding that one parent had commented, “This is a school where my child can thrive and do well.”

Ofsted noted what it called the school’s ‘wonderful woodland setting,’ praising the way the school is ‘determined to make the most of the opportunities this opens up for pupils.’ The inspector added, “Outdoor learning is encouraged. I saw learning outside where, in a drama session, pupils turned

themselves into a variety of tree shapes, while pupils involved in a mathematical investigation estimated measurements with liquids.”

The inspector praised the classrooms’ ‘purposeful atmosphere’, where ‘pupils are inquisitive learners.’ The school is committed to providing a rich curriculum, and the inspector found pupils spoke ‘enthusiastically’ about the wide range of learning different opportunities provided, including sport, music, languages, art and drama. “They also told me about the ‘science, art and writing week’,” said the inspector. “It gave them the opportunity to learn about the sea, through science-based exploration recorded in art and writing.”

Reading has been a strength of the school for

some time. In 2016 it received a letter from the then Minister of State for School Standards, Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, congratulating staff and pupils on their standard of reading, which put them in the top 1% of schools nationally. The Ofsted report speaks of the pupils’ love of reading and their ability to hold well-developed discussions about areas such as characterisation and genre.

“Obviously we are delighted by the great things Ofsted has to say about our school,” says Alison Read, Head Teacher. “We are working collaboratively to implement the report’s recommendations, enhancing the learning opportunities already provided by our talented team.

“The success of a school like Aldborough is all about community and team spirit – I’m so delighted that the Ofsted report highlights the hard work of pupils and staff and the fantastic support we receive from parents, governors, and the wider community.”

anyone interested in finding out more should call the office (during school hours) on 01263 761264 or email office@aldborough.norfolk.sch.uk. the school’s website is at www.aldborough.norfolk.sch.uk

Artists get ready for Open Studios and Art Exhibition

Preparations are well underway for the annual open studios event at barrington Farm day service centre at walcott.

Barry Skinner, 44, attends the centre’s supported Art Barn studio every week and is looking forward to welcoming visitors to the space and showing his work. “I’m happy to exhibit my work. I like to draw scenery and famous faces like Toyah and Bjork. I have autism. I taught myself how to draw and bring my own ideas. People should come here for Open Studios – it will do you the world of good and you might find something really interesting!

Staff member Sarah Ballard says “Open Studios is a fantastic opportunity for local people to visit to this unique art centre. There are very few places like it in the UK. We don’t expect visitors to buy anything (though it’s great if they do!) – it is more about people seeing how each individual makes their art in this shared space and engaging with the artists. Barry is one of 30 artists here who work hard all year

danielwarricker@hotmail.co.uk

but also face challenges in exhibiting their work. Open Studios also allows us to create an accessible exhibition outside of a traditional gallery environment and gives everyone an equal platform to show their work and celebrate their achievements. Please don’t miss your chance to come and support these brilliant artists – everyone is welcome.

The exhibition will feature drawings, paintings textiles and sculpture with prices for all budgets. There is also a special event this year called the Happy Cafe. This will take place on Wednesday 29, Thursday 30 May, Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June from 2pm - 4pm and offers the public the chance to have a fun and informal cuppa and homemade cake with the artists.

The Art Barn studio at Barrington Farm will be open 10am - 5pm every day from Tuesday 28 May until Sunday 9 June. It is No 092 in the brochure. Norfolk & Norwich Open Studios, run by the N&N Festival is one of the largest schemes in the country with over 450 artists taking part.

How to restore a youthful jawline?

Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic is fully equipped to help you achieve a tighter jawline and neck.

Sagging jawline is a common concern for many men and women. They do not want major surgery but are looking for some tightening and lifting to make their jawline more defined.

Thanks to modern technology we are able to achieve this in a number of different ways. We can achieve a very pleasing profile with our treatments.

Thanks to modern technology, our treatments, sun-protection and awareness; we find people are maintaining their youthful looks for longer. Our journey begins with a consultation and assessment to determine causes of your particular concern so that a customized treatment plan can be devised. We can usually offer you a choice. Our treatment recommendation may include one or more of the following:

because it requires placing fairly substantial amounts of filler on underlying bone while avoiding the blood vessels. This is a challenging technique that can produce beautiful results.

More advanced options We do offer a variety of minimally invasive options such as laser facelift, one stitch facelift or full face and neck lifts under local anaesthesia so we can offer these if you have a significant amount of lose skin and feel surgery is your only option. Give us a call on 01603 736487 or log on to the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk to book your appointment and start your journey towards a tighter jawline and neck.

radiofrequency skin tightening This device can tighten the skin without any pain or discomfort and requires no preparation with numbing creams. It takes about 40-45 minutes to treat the whole face. Patients love this treatment because they are comfortable without pain medication or numbing creams. This treatment is great for firming up your jawline if you do not have a lot of lose skin. We do have some special offers on this great treatment for you.

Fractional Co2 laser resurfacing Fractional Skin Resurfacing is the only method, which creates new skin. This results in a decrease in sunspots, fine lines, wrinkles and acne scarring and a fresher, more youthful skin tone and texture. The Fractional approach stimulates quick healing, while leaving your skin’s surface intact, with no lasting redness.

Volume restoration We can use dermal fillers or your own fat to re-create your jawline and chin.

Chin and jawline are difficult to inject so you need an experienced doctor to do these and not someone who injects fillers ‘on the side’. When injecting fillers it is important to stay away from the important structures such as nerves and blood vessels. So a deep understanding of anatomy is essential.

When the jaw angle gets blurred, it makes a huge difference in how the person is perceived. We can inject fillers to contour the jawline, angle of the jaw and chin. Botulinum toxin injections remain popular for this area as in Nefertiti lift. As we age, we start to lose a little chin projection. This can be restored using fillers. This approach differs drastically from simply filling lines

01263 822838 New Local Plan reaches first phase of public consultation

A public consultation on a new Local Plan (Part 1) for North Norfolk began on Tuesday 7 May and run until Wednesday 19 June, 5pm.

Residents, businesses and organisations are being invited to consider the content of the First Draft Local Plan (Part 1) and supporting documents and to let the Council know if changes are considered to be necessary.

Call Steve on 01263 511626

The purpose of the Local Plan is to provide clear detail on where new homes, jobs and infrastructure will be created in order to meet housing, employment and other needs of the area, while protecting and enhancing our unique natural and built environment. This includes addressing specific challenges such as accommodating a growing and aging population, providing affordable housing, and managing the potential impacts of climate change.

www.cromergaragedoors.co.uk

As part of the consultation, the Council will also publish details of the Alternative Options that have been considered and the Sustainability Appraisal, together with the supporting documents and evidence that has informed the preparation of the draft document.

The Council is also seeking to identify available sites in a number of village locations as part of a ‘Call for Sites’. Proposals for sites of up to 1 hectare are being invited in order to provide development opportunities in 22 specific village locations across the district which would benefit from small-scale housing growth.

Removals & Storage Local & National

A consultation is also being held on three Supplementary Planning Documents at the same time. The overall purpose of the documents is to provide detailed guidance to applicants, to support relevant Local Plan policies, and to assist in the determination of planning applications and appeals.

For details of how to respond, and to view the consultation documents from 3 May, please visit www.north-norfolk.gov.uk/localplanconsultation

To support the consultation, a series of public ‘drop-in’ events have been organised across the District where local people can meet with staff to learn more about and discuss the proposals – see website for details. North Norfolk District Council spokesperson said “North Norfolk District Council is working hard to make sustainable choices that will shape the immediate future of the District and will meet the needs of local people. The consultation events have been set up to encourage as many people as possible to have their say and an opportunity to make comments and suggestions that the Council can consider before consulting again ahead of the final submission for independent examination in late 2019.”

Row, Row, Row your Boat in December 2020 a trio of intrepid rowers will embark on the longest and toughest row of their lives (to date).

They are Sandra Squire, Helen Hogan and Kate Palmer, all members of the Kings Lynn Coastal Rowing Club who will be taking part in the Talisker Atlantic Challenge www.taliskerwhiskyatlanticchallenge.com

In order to take part in this mammoth event a serious amount of training will be necessary. To this end the trio ably assisted by Carol Noding, Tim Hogan, Bob Panrucker, Karen Nicklin and photographer Pete Jousiffe set out on Saturday 20 April, in their St Ayles Skiff, the ‘Lynn Rewet’ to row from Kings Lynn and visit all the lifeboat stations along the coast as far as Great Yarmouth, presenting Easter Eggs to all the stations along the way.

Ouse of a container ship. This put their timing all awry which meant that they arrived at Old Hunstanton later than planned and as the tide was on the turn. As they departed from Old Hunstanton they were met with the incoming tide and an easterly wind of about 15- 20 knots and, as they were not making any headway, it was decreed that, with the wind being from that quarter for the proposed duration of the row over the Easter weekend, that it would not be possible to complete the row in the allotted time.

However, the KLCRC members were determined not to disappoint the RNLI stations they had planned to visit and took it upon themselves to journey by road to all the Lifeboat Stations between Hunstanton and Great Yarmouth to deliver their Easter wishes and chocolates aplenty.

As you will appreciate, all coastal rowing is governed by the winds and the tides and timing is therefore of the essence. The team was seriously hampered at the outset by a 45 minute delay with the arrival into The Great

The crew were obviously very disappointed not to complete the journey but were very grateful for the input from the RNLI, especially Hunstanton RNLI and Skipper Sandra Squire said “Throughout the next three days, we
