A Summer of Celebration, Carnival and Community
It is hard to believe we are already approaching the end of September and all the activities we had planned for and so looked forward to, are now over.
It has been a busy and exciting summer at Sheringham WI with sun and smiles the order of the season.
At Yellow Mellow Beach Hut on the East Prom, we gathered the local community, holiday makers and some enthusiastic walkers for a Big Cuppa in aid of the Big C. Camping stoves boiled bravely all day long and cake was consumed in vast quantities in the sunshine lounging on deckchairs. It was really Sheringham Sea Front at its best and we raised £260.
The Carnival Car Boot saw us in action again with WI ladies discovering their inner market trader and bellowing about bargains galore to raise £350 for this year’s funds and projects. Again, the sun shone and we enjoyed talking to people about the different aspects of WI. Many people were surprised to see that many of us are not old ladies who make jam and judge cake competitions. There was much laughter and merriment and we are already looking forward to next year.
For the last six years, Sheringham WI have organised the children’s fancy dress competition for the Carnival Association. We have had
Captain Salty Sam challenge the children of Sheringham to join his crew and helped the Queen of Hearts catch the naughty knave and prevent the stealing of the tarts. Peter Pan managed to get the children of Sheringham to capture the crocodile last year and get all the lost boys back to Neverland. Continued on page 4...

A Summer of Celebration, Carnival and Community Continued from front cover... This year, Felicia Fogg tackled her journey around the world in 80 days and called in at Sheringham. Thankfully, the children of Sheringham all came out to help her and stopped Phileas Fogg from stealing her suitcase. The array of costumes was amazing and the imagination and quality and hard work put in to them by parents and

children was incredible. The standard of costumes has increased year on year and I think we would have to say we must have one of the best communities for everyone getting involved. WI members entered into the spirit dressing in costumes from around the world and organising games and challenges for the children to join in as part of a fun and exciting event at the heart of Carnival. All monies raised from this event and collected in the buckets went to the Carnival Association. The cash prizes were kindly sponsored by CAS Travel.

Our last event was the Mary Berry Three Peaks Cake Relay challenge. Several intrepid members set off, all dressed as Mary Berry and carrying a large cake plus little cakes to dish out on the way to fellow walkers. Again, much laughter helped the ladies through this challenge and was another example of the WI does do different.
Friday 5 August saw us organising the Vintage Tea Party for the Carnival. All other costs were met by WI members and contributions given freely. Again, we look forward to this event next year and have already got people asking for tickets. So make sure you get yours early if you missed out.

Writing this on a sweltering August day, I can only hope that it lasts. The town is packed and everyone is smiling. Judy, Doug and I are still getting lobbied about a pedestrian area in town which is a matter for all of us and not as extreme as some would have us believe, so it still needs talking through.
There is still a huge groundswell of opinion regarding a roundabout at the A148 junction. As an ex copper, I know that it is sorely needed both for safety and for the towns' tourist trade. Chamber of Trade are solidly behind it but as usual it is cash - little forthcoming from County Highways. Hopefully, more information will be forthcoming regarding what has been said at County.
Meanwhile, keep trimming the hedges, and if anyone knows how to slow down grass growing I'd be delighted to know!
Finally, a huge thankyou to the Carnival Committee for the best show in years it takes weeks of sweat and worry to organise, a real band of heroes! Richard Shepherd

Age is Just a Number: Let’s celebrate 1 October will be the United Nations Day of the Elder Person. To recognise and celebrate the contribution of older people, we have joined together to put on a Free Fun Day.
North Norfolk Older People’s Forum, Age Concern North Norfolk, and the National Pensioners Convention and partners aim to make it an extra special event that will run over the course of the day at Sheringham Community Centre between 10am and 3pm. There will be lots to enjoy in the shape of exercise workshops run by Excel 2000, dance instruction and demonstrations by the Fitness League, a Sing-a-long and a local choir with plenty of opportunity for you to get involved and join in.
As well as all this, there will be fun and games for all the family to enjoy and the obligatory raffle. Refreshments, kindly sponsored by McCarthy and Stone, include tea, cake, sandwiches and a light lunch. (subject to availability)
For those wanting to share concerns or learn more about local groups and services, many organisations have volunteered their time to provide information stands with the opportunity of one to one support sessions. These include Norfolk Carers, Sheringham Patient Participation Group, Anglia Region Pensioners Association, Age Concern North Norfolk, Excel 2000 and The Older Peoples Forum. Everyone involved would love to see you there on the day to help promote our aim of proving age is just a number and that Norfolk leads the way in uniting different generations.
FALCON Concerts
The 2016 FALCON Concerts programme is coming to an end for another year in October but rest assured they will be back. Held quarterly at St Andrews Church in Holt they are arranged to help raise funds for FALCON (the North Norfolk based arts initiative Facilitating Arts and Literature for the Children of Norfolk) and St Andrew's Church Development Fund. P erformers once again are drawn from the pool of young professionals, all ex-pupils from the Purcell School (an international school for young musicians of exceptional talent), who very generously come for expenses only.
This year saw a wonderful range of concerts on offer, including, for the first time, a Chamber Orchestra concert, in early July, conducted by the internationally acclaimed conductor Peter Stark. This concert is part of an exciting and ambitious School’s Concert project which included a wider programme of related events and activities – composition workshops, children’s art and poetry workshops, exhibitions and competitions, visits to their local libraries all on the theme of ‘Carnival of the Animals’. All of which were developed in partnership with Holt Festival and 5 local Primary School’s (Langham, Holt, Gresham Village, Roughton and The Belfry in Overstrand), the North Norfolk Library Service, the acclaimed local poet and prize winning children’s author Kevin Crossley-Holland, and St. Andrews Church.
The project was a huge success that also saw an exhibition of children’s artwork being displayed at St Andrews Church in Holt the week of Holt Festival. The next concert is on Saturday 15 October, at 6.30pm when Francina Moll Salord and Margalida Moll Salord come to St Andrews Church in Holt. As many already know, the performances can be truly breath-taking, and we are, as always, confident you won't be disappointed…the next concert promises to be no exception. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2017 if not before. As usual pre-concert drinks will be available, as well as during the interval.
WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER SILVER & WARD WARD SOLICITORS? SOLICITORS?
“It’s a common misconception that a larger firm is better.”
I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor, qualified Family Mediator and Collaborative solicitor.
As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. The common misconception is that a larger local firm or city firm is better but this is incorrect. A client just pays more.
When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I am one of the few solicitors that offffers a free first appointment so that clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision.
I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 0 1263 8 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk 01263 823465

Sheringham to continue as Fairtrade Town
After two years as a Fairtrade Town, the Steering Group had to send proof that we are continuing to increase awareness of Fairtrade in Sheringham, and around our community.
I am sure you will be delighted to know that I had an email recentlyfrom the Fairtrade Towns Committee to say that we were successful and can continue as a Fairtrade Town.
Well done everyone!

Sheringham Shantymen & Keith Skipper on Cromer Pier The Sheringham Shantymen are pleased to announce that they will be performing at Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre on Sunday 6 November for their last public performance of 2016.
Garden Maintenance? Having a problem?
To make this yet another very special occasion, the Sheringham men have invited Cromer resident and well known raconteur Mr Keith Skipper as their very special guest.
Musical Director Mr Brian Farrow said “Following on from last year when, after much initial turbulent debate an amicable relationship was finally established, we thought it would make perfect sense to revisit this union of crab & lobster.”
The Chairman of the Shantymen Mr Bob Hawkins said “We are very much looking forward to working with Keith Skipper again where we will be able to witness first hand his particular brand of wonderful Norfolk squit”
With regard to their November performance on the Pier, Booking Secretary Chris Dolby said “Once again I know the lads are looking forward to performing at the Pier Pavilion Theatre where we have always been made to feel very at home by the Pier staff and the wonderful theatre audiences.”
This year, the Shantymen will be donating all of the profits from the show, to be split evenly, between the Cromer & Sheringham Lifeboats.
Lights Up Variety Show The Lights Up team are busy rehearsing for another carnival event - Lights Up Variety Show with a comedic gang show twist at The Little Theatre on 12 November, afternoon matinee or evening performance There will be singing, dancing, stand up, mime, art in action and much more delivered by compère Greg Powels, raising money for the Christmas lights and charity. Recently Asked Questions and Answers from the Clapham & Collinge Family team ‘Why do I need a Will?’
an executor.
Q1. Do I need a solicitor to produce a Will? A. No you don't need a solicitor to produce a Will. However, to ensure that you have covered every angle, you should seek professional advice. All too often, homemade Wills do not cover all eventualities and/or are defective in some way. It can lead to expensive rectification or disappointed beneficiaries after death. Not only will solicitors ensure that all angles are covered but most also store your Will free of charge.
Q2. How do I know if I'm an executor of a Will? A. An executor is the person responsible for dealing with a person’s affairs once they have passed away. Hopefully the person who made the Will (the Testator), will have informed you at the time of making their Will if you are an executor. If the Testator made their Will through a solicitor and that solicitor has been informed of the death, they will contact the executors. If a solicitor is dealing with the estate or is holding the Will, you can expect to be told shortly after they had been informed. There may also be a copy of the Will with the deceased's private papers which will confirm who has been appointed as
Q3. What happens to an estate if a Will's authenticity is questioned? A. Those dealing with the estate should stop work immediately or at least ensure that no distributions are made. If you are concerned about the authenticity of a Will and you feel that you are prejudiced by the contents of that Will, then you should contact a solicitor who is not acting for the executor immediately and as a matter of urgency. The longer this is left, the more difficult it is to unravel.
Q4. What information does my Will need to contain? A. There are many things to consider here. Your Will should contain your details and the details of the executor(s) you wish to appoint. You should provide full names (and if possible, addresses) for those you would like to benefit from your estate. It is important to carefully consider what each beneficiary is to receive from your estate and to specify this in your Will. You should also consider contingencies, so that you decide who will receive what if any of the beneficiaries pass away before you. If you have children under the age of 18 you should confirm who you would like to act as
their Guardians, if they were orphaned under 18. This will ensure certainty for your children at what will inevitably be a difficult time for all involved.
Q5. How often should I update my Will? A. You should review your Will at least every 5 years or sooner if your circumstances have changed. It is important to check that your Will still reflects your wishes. In some cases, an out of date Will can cause issues and result in a very different outcome than you originally anticipated. A change in circumstances such as marriage (a Will is automatically ‘revoked’ (cancelled) on marriage unless that Will specifically states otherwise), divorce, becoming responsible for a child, deaths and family feuds should be catalysts to picking up the Will and checking it out. If in doubt, talk to a solicitor.
To find out more or discuss your individual requirements in further detail, our dedicated Wills, Trusts and Probate solicitors will be delighted to help, please contact Lesley Ward from our Sheringham office on 01263 823398. Appointments also available at our North Walsham, Norwich and Brooke offices.

THE NORTH NORFOLK GARDENER
MICHAELMAS DAISIES To avoid problems it is worth seeking out the number of spores over-wintering.
Michaelmas daisies, hence the rhyme ‘ The Michaelmas daisies, among dead weeds, Bloom for St Michael’s valorous deeds...’
Michaelmas, the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, is a day in the Western Christian liturgical year that occurs on 29 September. In medieval England, Michaelmas marked the ending and beginning of the husbandman’s year. The name Michaelmas comes from a shortening of ‘Michael’s Mass,’ in the same style as Christmas (Christ’s Mass) and Candlemas when the church candles were blessed.
In Christianity, the Archangel Michael is the greatest of all the Archangels and is honoured for defeating Satan in the war in heaven. He is one of the principal angelic warriors, seen as a protector against the dark of night, and the administrator of cosmic intelligence. Michaelmas has also delineated time and seasons for secular purposes as well, particularly in Britain and Ireland as one of the quarter days. Because the feast falls near the equinox, it is associated in the northern hemisphere with the beginning of Autumn and the shortening of days. Our gardens are beginning to look a little tired at this time of the year but one of the flowers that can be relied upon to give us colour are
There is something old-fashioned about Michaelmas daisies, something unpretentious and modest, but their autumn colour makes them essential for every garden. They come in a wide colour range, dominated by blues and purples, but also pinks, reds and whites. Bees and butterflies love them. Botanically these daisies are part of the aster family and the easiest to grow are the nova-belgii cultivars, which are capable of colonising any waste ground via their running rootstocks as well as self-sowing themselves freely. Their great strength is the range of colours which have been bred, but they also have real problems mainly with powdery mildew which coats the leaves and makes them look distressed and scruffy.
the New England varieties, which are pretty much pest and disease resistant. Other good choices for aster are amellus, x frikartii and lateriflorus. All asters like a sunny spot and are not too fussy about the soil but do best in moist rich conditions. Most varieties will need staking to avoid the flowers being flattened by wind and rain. All asters can be easily propagated by division in spring from fresh growth, making the cut right at the base of the shoot.
Folk lore in the British Isles suggests that Michaelmas day is the last day that blackberries can be picked. It is said that when St. Michael expelled Lucifer from heaven, he fell from the skies and landed in a prickly blackberry bush. Satan cursed the fruit, scorching them with his fiery breath and stamped and spat on them, so that they would be unfit for eating. As it is considered ill-advised to eat them after 29 September, a Michaelmas pie is made from the last berries of the season.
The fungus starts on the underside of the leaves Bob Wilkinson and then spreads rapidly. The impact of the mildew can be reduced by regular watering and mulching and removing all top An exhibition of new painting of Norfolk’s beautiful coast line and landgrowth at the end of scapes is coming to The Gallery Norfolk in Cromer on the 1st October 2016 the season to reduce to the 15th October.

LEON BUNNEWELL - NORFOLK LIFE New paintings of Norfolk sea and landscapes 1st October - 15th October 2016, Cromer
Leon Bunnewell – Norfolk Life
Norwich based Leon has long been one of The Gallery Norfolk's best loved artists. His work is collected by Norfolk residents and by tourists keen to have a reminder of the beautiful scenery we have around us. Leon’s free and impressionistic style captures the energy and mood of the people in his pictures – whether they’re walking on the esplanade, jumping in the waves or fishing off the pier on a windy day.
In addition to his paintings of the lively North Norfolk beaches and Cromer Pier, Leon also loves to paint landscapes, which are rarely of the usual spots pictured by Norfolk artists, he prefers the quieter spaces like Ludham and Halvergate Marshes or the Felbrigg Estate.

Summer notes from the Commons
When summer started it was more like autumn with June being particularly wet and cold. July improved but still quite showery but then August came and the heat soars with temperatures reaching over 30°C. Such contrasts affect wildlife and humans alike. The cold wet June knocked the second generation of many butterfly species back so we saw fewer numbers of some species and late emergence of others. Similarly many plants were held back and flowered later.
The following observations were made mainly by Mark Clements and me over June, July and August.
Diamond-backed moths made the national news as they were everywhere at the beginning of June. These small slender micro-moths came over from the continent in their millions. The moth is harmless but unfortunately its caterpillars love brassicas and it was thought that they would cause a shortage of such this autumn. Last year a Blackcap was noted by Mark to have the features of a male and female, which was best exhibited by the fact that the cap was half black (male) and half brown (female) and it was seen again this year (June 4th). Such a condition is known as a gynandromorphy and occurs throughout many species. Painted Lady butterflies, a migratory species that originates in North Africa, also started to turn up on the Common at this time. An interesting insect, the Thistle Tortoise Beetle was found (June 6th) and a Red Kite also passed over the Common. Next day (June 7th) a Cuckoo called briefly, a Firecrest was noted and a Grass Snake was observed swimming across the pond. A Mother Shipton moth was also found. The moth gets its name from its wing pattern, which is supposed to be reminiscent of the 15th century Yorkshire witch/ prophetess, Mother Shipton. Another Red Kite was noted (June 9th) as well as a very rare butterfly, the Large Tortoiseshell. This butterfly is no longer resident in the UK and is presumed to have come from Europe, possibly with the earlier influx of Painted Lady butterflies. There have only been two previous occasions this century when this species has been seen in Norfolk. During a walk (June 19th) with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust (North Group) a Cormorant was seen in the pond diving and catching sticklebacks. It was oblivious to its audience and continued feeding even after the party left. On returning to the pond about an hour later the Cormorant had left but not far away was a pile of regurgitated fish, estimated to contain around 75-80 sticklebacks. Maybe the Cormorant was a young bird and inexperienced and found it could not swallow the sticklebacks because of the spines the fish process. An immature male Red-veined Darter was discovered near a small pool on the main marsh (June 24th). It appeared to have recently emerged and therefore was of interest as these dragonflies are generally seen as migrants, however, in some parts of the country they have established breeding colonies and locally Kelling and Felbrigg may have had some successful breeding. Another summer migrant, the Hobby, flew over (June 28th). This small falcon is also becoming a fairly frequent visitor and breeding bird to Norfolk in recent years.
During a walk with the Sheringham History Group (July 2nd) two Hobbies, two Common Buzzards, a Sparrowhawk, a Kestrel and a Red Kite were all seen within about 30 minutes and at the end of the walk an uncommon Blackneck Moth was found. A few days later (July 7th) and members of the Norfolk Branch of Butterfly Conservation were given a guided walk. It was not ideal butterfly weather and only five species were found, however, nine species of dragonfly were present as was the large hoverfly Sericomyia silentis. The following day a female Red-veined Darter was found and a Grass Snake was again spotted swimming

(August 1st) also an attractive hoverfly, Chrysotoxum festivum. The Grass of Parnassus, a small white flower with extensive green veining on the petals, is a plant typical of fens and marshes, although uncommon in the south of the UK, appeared in bloom (August 8th). The plant is clearly not a grass but gets its name supposedly from ancient Greece, when cattle were seen to be grazing on these plants on Mount Parnassus and it became an ‘honorary’ grass. The second generation of butterflies such as the Common Blue and Brown Argus were later than usual (August 7th and 10th respectively) also on the latter date a Bee-wolf was seen. The Bee-wolf is a digger wasp that specialises in catching Honey Bees and stocking its burrow with them as a food source for its young. The bees are not killed, but paralysed in order to stay fresher for the Bee-wolf’s larvae. The last of the season’s dragonflies, the Migrant Hawker (August 18th) and Ruddy Darter (August 29th) are seen around the pond, also the Bog-Bush Cricket is found in the Cross-leaved Heath on the central marsh. These crickets are very local in Norfolk, occurring on fewer than 10 sites. The following day (August 30th) Mark spotted the large migrant pond skater, Aquarius paludum. This is an infrequent visitor to the Commons and first turned up in September 2002. If you have enjoyed this summary you can always visit the website (www.beestoncommon.org.uk) for day to day sightings.
across the pond (July 10th) by visitor, Frankie Owens. Two further Grass Snakes were noted (July 15th) basking on cut vegetation heaps on the side of the main central marsh and the following day another was seen in the Back Bog. A White Admiral was also noted on Sheringham Common. Another unusual butterfly was present (July 17th) on Sheringham Common – the large Silver-washed Fritillary. This butterfly reappeared in Norfolk in 2010 following an absence of 40 years. They are now well established in Norfolk but it is thought that some migration still occurs and a few individuals were seen outside there ‘normal’ locations around this time as well as increased numbers of ‘whites’ and Banded Demoiselles, a small dragonfly that is also prone to eruptive migrations. Two other butterflies, the Purple Hairstreak and the White-letter Hairstreak were finally seen (July 18th). This is around a week later than normal and unless you are looking specifically for them they tend to go un-noticed as both species tend to stay around the tops of oaks or elms respectively, rarely venturing down to take nectar from flowers. As Dutch Elm disease decimated English and Wych Elms and continues to attack such species the White-letter Hairstreak has adapted to living on Japanese Hybrid Elms which have been widely grown as they are disease resistant trees. One such tree is present in the eastern boundary hedge of Beeston So how do we rate Summer 2016? A shaky start but Common and it has held a small colony of the Whitecame good later I suppose but now the morning dews letter Hairstreak for at least the last four years. When the eggs hatch the maggots eat their SOME THINGS WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER« host, starting with non-vital parts first so the unfortunate caterpillar is kept alive until the maggot pupates. Being part of the food chain is what nature is about and although the pair of Moorhens on the pond managed to bring five chicks from the nest July 26th), within a month they had all disappeared – prey to a Fox, Stoat or Weasel or maybe a Carrion Crow. As the month closed (July 31st), warmer and drier conditions prevailed, which favoured grasshoppers and crickets. Those with good hearing can hear the various ‘stridulating’ of the different species, although it is very difficult to hear Long-winged Coneheads without the aid of an electronic detector, yet walking through long Classic homemade cakes, sandwiches, loose-lea leaff English tea and Matthew Algie Algie coffee grass or reeds and the jumping movement of 2.30 ² 4.30 .30pm pm MONDAY ~ SATURDAY these insects soon attracts Booking essential attention.

Hundreds turn out to rock at charity music gig
Hundreds of people flocked to a charity music gig in north Norfolk earlier this month.
the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The pair were inspired to set up the Unplugged gig after Miss Allen’s father, Kevin, had been using the unit while having chemotherapy treatment.
With 29 acts on the line up, Unplugged by the Sea was set up to raise funds for the Weybourne Unit at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Miss Allen said “The support we have had has been truly overwhelming. The cause we were raising money for has struck a chord with so many people and it was a pleasure to have been approached by members of the public who are or have been in a similar position to my family.
After a three-hour coin count of the weekend’s bucket collection, the total raised has reached £1,177.27.
The family-friendly event, organised by Ben Carpenter from Overstrand and his girlfriend Loren Allen from Norwich, took place at The Crown in Sheringham.
Mr Carpenter, who has previously helped to organise Rock Bodham, said “I just can’t believe it, we had cancellations at the last minute and people stepped in to fill the slots, from a girl on holiday, Katie Spencer, to a guy in the crowd, Jim Higgs, our compere Chad Mason and DJ Hagster who got the crowd dancing on the Saturday night with a Motown set.
“I am astounded by everyone’s generosity and hope that we can pull together as a community again to support other causes in the future.”
Mr Carpenter said “We had constant praise all weekend, holidaymakers loved it and locals couldn't believe we managed to get a marquee at the Crown.
“Everyone has been so generous and the buckets kept on filling up.”
music and ale it was soon a great event.
“The bands all want to play again next year and the landlord was so happy he's asked us to do it again too.”
One visitor on holiday in the town said “I came to Sheringham as I love it here but events like this has sealed it for me, the community spirit is magnificent.”
Organisers would like to thank landlord of The Crown, Bob Brewster, who supplied the artists with food and drink and supplied the marquee and sound.
They also give thanks to the many volunteers who gave up their time to support the event, the artists who played for free and the people who attended and donated to the bucket collection.
Mr Brewster said “We had an excellent weekend of varied music performed at a very high standard.”
North Norfolk Removals “The weather was awful, with rain and wind, but we did have a great marquee and with

Dear Margaret,
we will pass on the details.
Dear Margaret,
I have just read your excellent publication and very good article regarding Sheringham Lifeboat Day - just one bad point, your correspondent called Beeston Hill by the silly nickname of ‘bump’.
Norfolk is short enough of hills without reducing one of the most iconic, if in name only, to a bump. All raised ground overlooking Sheringham is a hill and this one is no exception.
There is no written word, be it in post cards or guides prior to 1970s that I have discovered that refers to Beeston Hill as Beeston Bump
Best wishes, M Emery

Dramatic life of ‘rock star’ womaniser
Telephone (01508) 491220
Casanova was a legendary ‘ladies’ man’ who provided a nickname for generations of charming womanisers. But the playboy was also a trainee priest, conman and gambler who mixed with the 18th century’s rich and famous, including the Pope and Mozart. Now an East Anglian-based theatre company has devised a play about the colourful cad, which puts a modern rock star slant on his eventful life nearly 300 years ago. John Leat as Giacomo It will premiere on Friday 30 September at Sheringham Little Casanova Theatre, which has just announced its winter programme line-up. The drama will then go on a 17-venue tour, mainly in Suffolk. Playwright and director Amy Wyllie from Spinning Wheel Theatre said “I was reading about his escape from prison which included him tunneling, then walking out the front door dressed as the Doge (Italian chief magistrate) and thought’ this would make a play in its own right’. Then I read his memoires, and found he was an even more incredible character - almost a rock star figure in his time, but also an awful person who was a murderer and rapist who committed incest.” The play follows his exploits through Europe, from Venice and Vienna to Prague and Paris, as well as London, along with the people he met along the way. “The first half is silly, fun, madcap and jolly. The second half looks at whether his life decisions, and a failed relationship, haunted him. He is an anti-hero who makes a lot of mistakes, but claims never to have had any regrets, and the play aims to look at whether that really was the case,” she added. The drama will be set in the 18th century, but with some contemporary “glam rock” touches. There is a three-strong cast – Joe Leat in the title role, with Lucy Benson-Brown and Sam Norris playing multiple supporting parts. It is Bury St Edmunds-based Spinning Wheel’s fifth annual tour. The company staged the Tangled Tales children’s show at the Sheringham Little Theatre earlier this year, and Ms Wyllie directed The Railway Children during the venue’s summer drama season. !"# $#%&'#()*!&(+!,-. / (0'+/#) Casanova runs from 30 September to 1 October at 7.30pm. Norwich City Transfer Review
Many Norwich City fans were left feeling disappointed as the transfer window came to a close at the end of last month, with the Club not partaking in any business on the final day. Many fans felt another striker was needed however Norwich were unable to pull off any deals.
This has left quite a few fans feeling pessimistic about the upcoming season and questioning the ambition and desire of the Norwich City board.
They do have reason to be cautious however as the only striker Norwich signed this window was Nelson Oliveira on a 4-year deal from Benfica having spent a season on loan at Nottingham Forest, scoring nine goals in 24 starts.
Nelson could end up being a shrewd piece of business but he was not the proven Championship striker Norwich fans were craving. Hopefully, Norwich have the firepower to get through the winter period ahead of the January window, where hopefully another striker can be added.
Norwich vs. Cardiff match Review
Norwich took on Cardiff City as the players returned after the two week international break.
Norwich turned out to be 3-2 victors after a late scare from Cardiff.
This was just the result Norwich needed after an incredibly poor performance in their last game away at Birmingham as they lost 3-0. Norwich took the lead through Cameron Jerome as he poked the ball past keeper Ben Wilson from close range, after scuffing his initial chance.
Although it was not the best performance from Norwich they did the job that was required and that was to get all 3 points.
The Canaries doubled their lead right before the hour mark as Russell Martin, starting for the first time this season, headed in from a corner by Jacob Murphy, who has a made a massive difference since coming back into the side after a loan spell at Coventry last year.
Cardiff did manage to give Norwich a late scare as ex Canary Anthony Pilkington scored with five minutes left on the clock, capitalising on some poor defensive work. After a nervy last few minutes, Josh Murphy reassured all home fans that the 3 points would be staying in Norfolk, with a beautiful goal curled into the bottom right corner, reminiscent of his effort vs. Blackpool 2 years ago. However, more shocks were still to come as Pilkington got a brace as he bundled in a goal during the dying minutes of extra time to end what was a frantic finale to an otherwise relatively dull game.
