The Sheringham Independent November 2020

Oh yes it will!

Live panto WILL happen at Sheringham and Great Yarmouth - with thousands of children joining in online too. A pioneering project is beating the pandemic to keep panto alive in two seaside theatres and scores of Norfolk primary schools.

The scheme will see live performances of a festive fun show at Sheringham Little Theatre, and St George’s Theatre in Great Yarmouth along with a special online screening into children’s classrooms and homes.

The school’s screenings are happening thanks to the Norfolk Music Hub, which promotes music-making among local children, and was seeking to team up with a panto, which are in short supply this year.

youngsters will be encouraged to get into the festive spirit by dressing up as their favourite panto character, and to post pictures on social media. It will take place at 1.45pm on Wednesday December 16 with a warm up session from 1.30pm.

Oh yes it will!

Continued from front cover... Debbie Thompson, director of both theatres, said: “We have done lots of work with the Music Hub, and when I heard they were looking for a panto I said ‘look no further.’ We have been looking for ways to stage a shortened, socially-distanced panto with a small cast at both venues to reduce the cost risk – and this link-up with the Hub adds an extra dimension to ensure youngsters do not miss out on their annual dose of pantomime. In true panto style it’s a real happy ending for all concerned, even before curtain up!

Tickets to Rapunzel – The Lockdown Panto – are £12 (£8 u-16s) at Sheringham and £10 (£6 u-16s) at Great Yarmouth available via www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com or www.stgeorgestheatre.com Schools wanting to find out more about the online streaming should visit The Norfolk Music Hub website www.norfolkmusichub.org.uk

Rapunzel – The Lockdown Panto is being written and directed by Sheringham Little Theatre panto and summer season regular Nick Earnshaw.

Costumes sale boosts Sheringham theatre funds by ÂŁ500

A sale of vintage clothes from the Community and Theatre Wardrobe held at Sheringham Little Theatre raised hundreds of pounds for the lockdown-hit venue’s funds.

The live stage shows – which are 50 minutes long without an interval – will be at Sheringham Little Theatre on December 22, 23 and 24.

The live streaming will take place on December 16, filmed with a live band and an audience of invited youngsters at St George’s Theatre Great Yarmouth, whose cabaret-style seating allows for more space and 76 guests in the 220-seater auditorium during Covid restrictions. Sheringham can host 40 people in its 160 seats under current rules.

The session held in the theatre’s Hub on what would have been the 1940s weekend attracted more than 80 people to snap up retro dresses, uniforms, and hats.

The sessions will be run by the Come and Sing Company on behalf of the Arts Council-funded Norfolk Music Hub.

During the live screening, which will be captioned and signed,

One of the wardrobe directors Libby Henshaw said: “It was lovely to see so many vintage and retro and costume items going to good homes and we were delighted to be able to add ÂŁ500 to the theatre's funds. “The wardrobe and theatre would like to thank everyone who came to support the day.â€?

Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: "We are extremely grateful to everybody at the Wardrobe for all their hard work and for raising so much money for the Little Theatre."

The wardrobe is sorting through its 10,000-strong collection to make more space. The outfits and accessories are hired out to drama groups and the general public in need of fancy dress and drama costumes.

It will be holding further sales in the future but if anyone is interested in any particular group of items they should email sheringhamwardrobe@gmail.com to flag up what they are looking for and to arrange viewing by appointment.

A Note from the editor

What do you give a 380-year-old for Christmas?

It really feels like winter is upon us with the dark evenings and rediscovering our woolly jumpers, hats, and scarves. Thoughts turn to pumpkins and bonfires, but things will be very low key this year. With many public Guy Fawkes events not taking place there may be more domestic fireworks around this year and a greater need for being mindful of the safety our children and pets. Remember to stick to the firework code and keep your pets somewhere quiet and safe. As we are going to press the government has just announced a national lockdown, and Covid cases are rising in this area. Track and Trace may not be perfect but if you receive an alert please follow advice on isolating. If we are to come through this pandemic it is vital we follow the rules to protect our vulnerable and keep our local economy going. New lockdown rules mean that arrangements for seasonal events, church attendance and many other things have changed, please ensure you check how this affects your plans. With Christmas around the corner shopping for gifts is well underway. This is another way we can all support our local businesses, many offer home deliveries and all depend on the seasonal spend, so shop locally where you can.

Itteringham Village Shop has a long history of serving the local community, in fact it has outlasted 16 monarchs, a civil war and two world wars. There has been a shop trading from the same site for over 380 years and from 1994 has been run by members of the local community keen to ensure continuing success. The community Shop responds to the needs of customers placing an emphasis on local produce, most importantly it acts as a social hub.

Through the 20th Century the Fairhead family ran the Shop, firstly Albert from 1910 and then his son Brian from the 1940s up to his death in 1994. Stocking a wide and varied range of items from groceries to wellington boots they were always aware of their customer’s needs. This has been an important factor this year in deciding the type of stock needed locally as we approach Christmas. So, it’s really a case of what can a 380-year-old give you for Christmas! This year the Community Shop rose to the challenge of Covid19 lockdown restrictions by delivering supplies to customers who were self-isolating or shielding operating on reduced opening hours. It was soon apparent that by taking safety measures early to protect both staff and customers the shop was becoming a popular destination for items not easily obtained in larger supermarkets. This is why this Christmas they have taken steps to stock a larger range of seasonal gifts from local artists and suppliers so customers can avoid the worry of trips into crowded shopping areas.

Enjoy your November magazine. Keep well and safe. Jo – Editor

The shop has many gift ideas including art cards, gift wrap, tea towels, candles, soaps, mohair socks, advent calendars, chutneys, cordials, and a whole lot more. The photograph taken inside the shop shows a few seasonal gifts displayed on and around items used by previous shopkeeper Brian Fairhead including his old typewriter that typed out customer accounts and orders. Open seven days a week from 09:00 – 4:00pm

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER SILVER & WARD WARD SOLICITORS? SOLICITORS?

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”

I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difffficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney, and especially during this very uncertain time. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norrffolk or Norrw wich and I provide 24 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. I can also offer appointments via Zoom, telephone or Skype and through the website www.silverandward.co.uk.. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offe fer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs. Of course we have all necessary Covid measures in place in the office.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain. Home visits can be arranged at no extra cost.

No. 284, the second in the current solving competition and, as it happens, the same vintage as No. 283, has a nice key (again, no threat) with three variations following the moves of the black B which show a similar theme in one respect. The construction is beautiful, the white pieces on b4 and d4 serving to limit the moves of the dark-square Bs without the need for extra force. Difficulty 3.

Residents in Norfolk are being reminded that they are the most important link in the Test and Trace system The steps to take if you or any member of your household display Covid 19 symptoms are simple and can be key in preventing infections being spread.

we all play our part to protect everyone around us. We all have friends and family that we want to keep safe – whether that’s parents, elderly grandparents, and even our children. And we need everyone to play their part to help us do that. We all have to work together to keep each other safe.

If you are symptomatic you must isolate as soon as you notice symptoms and to have no face to face contact with anyone outside of your household. It is important to do this straight away, and for everyone in the household to isolate as they could also be infectious even without symptoms.

Cath Byford, Chief Nurse with NHS Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Our call to everyone is, if you have coronavirus symptoms then self-isolate, get a test and help us track down people you have been in contact with. It’s one way that together we can beat this virus.

As soon as you isolate, visit www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119 to book a test. Stay in isolation until you receive your results, which will include instructions on what to do next.

But Test and Trace isn’t only about symptomatic individuals: when a positive test result arrives, teams of contact tracers will search for everyone the Covid positive individual has been in recent contact with and will alert them.

Cllr Bill Borrett, Norfolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, said: “This isn’t just about protecting ourselves, but making sure

If you are alerted by NHS Test and Trace, you must isolate for 14 days after your contact with the individual. If you develop symptoms, you must book a test at the NHS coronavirus website and your household must isolate.

Keeping yourselves and others safe

Coronavirus is still with us. Cases in Norfolk are low and we want to keep them that way. The best thing to do to protect ourselves and others is to continue to wash our hands regularly, keep our distance from others and wear a face covering in shops and on public transport.

To protect others, you and everyone living in your house should isolate straight away if you show symptoms. The symptoms are: a new continuous cough; fever; or a loss or change in your taste and smell.

As soon as you isolate, visit www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119 to book a test. Everyone is eligible to get a test if they have symptoms. You can choose either a drive-through test or a home test kit. Stay in isolation until you receive your results, which will include instructions on what to do next.

NHS Test and Trace will contact people who test positive for Covid-19. They will ask you about who you have been in contact with from two days before onset of symptoms to seven days after. This will identify people at risk who could pass on the virus before (or without) showing symptoms themselves.

For more information about how to stay safe and how to get support if you need it whilst isolating visit: norfolk.gov.uk/coronavirus

Local Outbreak Control Plan

A Norfolk Local Outbreak Control Plan has been launched under the strapline Protect Ourselves, Protect Others, Protect Norfolk to set out how the county will support the national NHS Test and Trace programme to prevent and contain the spread of coronavirus.

The plan sets out how Norfolk’s Public Health will work with a range of County Council departments and community partners to prevent local outbreaks in the first place. However, if outbreaks do occur, the plan sets out how they will be tracked in specific work places, settings, and communities and managed to limit further transmission. Also detailed is how Norfolk residents can find further guidance and support.

Making good quality Leaf Mould - The Gallant Gardener

Autumn is really upon us now and for many who are avid gardeners, time to collect a really cheap but useful resource. Autumn leaves are a rich source of humus essential for gardening.

All leaves and conifer needles will eventually break down into leaf mould. Some leaves, such as oak, beech or hornbeam, break down with little assistance and produce an excellent quality product. Thick leaves like sycamore, walnut, horse chestnut and sweet chestnut need to be shredded before adding to the leaf mould pile, as they are much slower to break down. Alternatively, they can be added to the compost heap after shredding.

Evergreens such as holly, aucuba and cherry laurel, are better shredded and added to the compost heap, where they will break down faster than if added to the leaf mould pile. Conifer needles will eventually break down but may take two to three years to decay. Conifer hedge clippings are better added to the compost heap than used for making leaf mould.

All aspects of Home Improvement

clint_brown_1@hotmail.com If your leaf mould pile is slow to break down into leaf mould, try turning it regularly to www.norfolkrecycles.com/reduce-myrubbish/compost/master-composters/ aerate the leaves and speed up the breakdown process. Make sure that the leaves do not dry During September and October Composting out, moistening the pile if necessary, in hot, dry for beginners (and improvers) were a great weather. success. Pine needles are worth gathering and placing in a separate leaf mould pile as they produce acidic leaf mould, which is ideal for mulching ericaceous plants, such as rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, pieris and blueberries.

PLUMBING & HEATING LTD FULLY QUALIFIED — 35 YEARS EXPERIENCE

Deciduous trees are dropping their leaves now, so this is a good time to gather up leaves for starting a leaf mould pile. Pine needles may be shed throughout the year, but especially in spring, so need to be gathered gradually for a pine needle leaf mould pile.

INSTALLATION Boiler installation with 7 - 10 year warranty Boiler breakdown & power flushing Frozen condense pipe rectified Boiler service and landlord certification

How to make leaf mould Collect your leaves either using a spring tine rake, leaf collector or wooden boards. Place the leaves into a bin liner, moisten them if they are dry, then pierce holes in the bag with a knife or garden fork, tie the top loosely and stack the bags out of sight for up to two years.

PLUMBING Bathroom installation Wetroom installation Mains pressure upgrade General plumbing work & maintenance

Alternatively, make a square or round frame from chicken wire or similar, supported at the corners or at intervals around the circle with stakes or bamboo canes. Ideally this should be in a sheltered part of the garden to ensure that the leaves are not blown away. Most leaves take about two years to break down. If it becomes dry moisten the heap.

BOILER INSTALLATION Combi and system boiler’s upgrade Underfloor heating Warm air and powermax upgrade Boiler breakdown repair

Using Leaf Mould Good quality, well-rotted leaf mould (more than two years old) can be used as seed-sowing compost, or mixed equally with sharp sand, garden compost and good quality soil for use as potting compost.

Poor quality leaf mould, or leaf mould that is less than two years old can be used as mulch, soil improver, autumn

Rare Robin Raises Money for Stiffkey Village

Traidcraft still going strong in Sheringham

A very rare bird landed on Stiffkey marshes, thought to have been blown in recent winds from its natural habitat either in Southern Spain or the Middle East. The bird, a Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, was reported early on the 22nd October, drawing visitors to Stiffkey marshes from all over the country. This is the first sighting of the bird in the UK since the early 1950s.

St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Sheringham, decided to take part of its Harvest Festival weekend celebrations outside onto the adjoining grass. On Saturday morning, highlighted was the Church’s charity of the month ‘All We Can’ ‘Change begins with a bicycle’ by inviting people to write prayers and post them onto a bicycle. A Traidcraft stall selling Fairtrade goods, did brisk business raising £90 and gifts were received for the Cromer Foodbank. All of this was achieved following the ‘six-person’ guidelines!

People came from across the country to catch a glimpse of this very special Robin. The big influx of bird watchers was something of an opportunity for fund raisers in the village. Stiffkey Playing Field Committee work hard to raise funds to maintain their playing field on Hollow Lane and as well, they have a new project in progress. The plan is to build a tennis court for the use of the village and that will also act as a fundraiser for the maintenance of the playing field. There is also a very active Cricket Club in the village which uses the playing field, providing enjoyment for all ages.

The ‘Fairtrade for Sheringham Group’ sadly announce that its founding member, Mrs Brenda Smith, has decided, for personal reasons, to take a ‘back seat’ for a time.

She has headed up this Group for 17 years and her hard work and dedication has resulted in Sheringham being declared a ‘Fairtrade’ Town. This has been no easy task, and Brenda will be sorely missed, although she will be ‘mentoring’ those taking over the reins and keeps a keen interest in the work of Traidcraft and all it achieves in ensuring producers receive a fair price for their goods. Look out for the Fairtrade notices in local shops, thus supporting them and Fairtrade.

“These facilities are very precious to us and our tourists, and our Robin was a most welcome visitor” said Siemon Scamel-Katz who had the idea for the donation bucket. “We put a bucket out to collect the coins and the visiting birders generously gave us a total of £250!”

Information regarding future ordering of Fairtrade goods can be obtained from Jean Parton (01263) 821600 jeanparton24@gmail.com or Barbara George (01263) 822003 george.barbara443@gmail.com Christmas cards can now be ordered, and a catalogue showing Traidcraft Christmas cards can now be obtained from Jean or Barbara.

people already waiting to give them a home. If you are looking for a kitten, please ring Stephanie to advise your preferences and get on the list to wait for next ones to become available.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

If you have been looking on our website recently to find a new cat or kitten to join your family, you may have been disappointed as the website has advised that no cats are available.

Sal, the little cat who had been in an RTA, that I mentioned earlier, came into care because her previous owners could not afford to pay for the surgery she needed so signed her over to their vets. When this occurs, the veterinary practices contact local charities to try and find someone who will take the cat in. It is important for all animal owners, not just cat owners, to be aware that if their beloved pet does have an accident, they need to have either, insurance to cover the cost of an operation, or have money available to pay for it to be done.

With regard to adult cats, there are some in care at present but we do not put them on the website until they have been to the vets for a check, plus vaccination, microchip and/ or neutering (if appropriate). In recent weeks we have people who have already been in contact with us, ready and happy to give the cats a new home. Cats like Benji, Buddy, Jaxon and Dave, all waiting for their check and vaccinations, or dear little Sal, at present on cage rest because she had to have a leg amputated as a result of an RTA. Penfold and Percy also need veterinary care for minor health problems which need to be addressed before they are given a clean bill of health and put on the website. Also, the lovely stray unneutered tom who arrived recently, but cannot be offered for adoption straight away as we need to make sure he is not someone’s cat before he goes to the vets for treatment. So, although you cannot see a photo of any of these cats on the website, we are happy for people to come and see if they fit their lifestyle and reserve them ready to go to their new homes once everything has been done that needs to be done. Dorah, Jasper, Roxy, Ronnie, Iris and Rosemary are all recent additions to our pens who left without going on the website.

If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered. You can find us on Facebook: Cats Protection North Walsham.

We never put kittens on the website as Stephanie usually has a list of

Working with the DWP, NNDC is now seeking initial interest from North Norfolk based businesses who can identify one or more work placements to help young people to make a start in their working life.

NNDC Kickstart Scheme

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has welcomed the Government’s new Kickstart Scheme which will provide funding for the creation of job opportunities for 16 to 24 year olds; the age group identified as most at risk of long-term unemployment as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic.

The Government will reimburse salary costs and provide a cash amount to cover the other costs of employing a new member of staff. The DWP has set a minimum of 30 placements per organisation. This many placements would not be possible for most organisations in North Norfolk, so NNDC has applied to become a ‘Gateway’ organisation, managing a cohort of placements from partner organisations.

Bar ford Landscapes Paving & Landscaping

Funding is available for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. In addition, £1,500 per job placement will be provided for set up costs, equipment, support and training.

How do I get involved with the NNDC Gateway? Businesses can register to join the NNDC Gateway via our Expression of Interest form. If we receive enough enquiries, we can make a joint application to provide the minimum number of placements. NNDC will require job descriptions which will be sent to the DWP and distributed to the local work coaches. The work coaches will work with young people to support them to apply for the post that you have created. All organisations wishing to offer one or more placement(s) will be able to interview candidates.

We have also sent a cheque for £350 to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital Charity to pay part of the cost of a large mural on the wall of the Jenny Lind Hospital’s Parents Room. Photos of the mural look lovely and we hope worried or bereaved parents will be helped to cope by looking at the sun shining through the woods. This mural was needed as the room has no windows and it is now a cosy, welcoming place.

Do stay well everyone. We are still looking for more members. We are pleased to say that Janet Taylor has re-joined us after the death of her husband, and our former Treasurer, a few months ago. Liz and Derick Bowler

Kitchens and Crew Rooms: chefs share their experience - and recipes - for RNLI’s Fish Supper For Reis Khalil and Kharn Brown, the RNLI’s Fish Supper autumn fundraiser is the perfect combination of their two greatest passions – crewing the Cromer lifeboat, and cooking up a storm in their regular jobs as chefs.

Reis has been volunteering for the RNLI for 5 years. He’s now a member of the crew on both the station’s All-Weather and Inshore Lifeboats, and a mechanic on the smaller Inshore boat. In his day job, he’s the Head Chef at The Grove in Cromer. More recently, Reis has been joined by Kharn, both as a chef at The Grove and on the lifeboat crew.

making plans to launch its new al fresco dining facilities later in the year. It’s hoped opening night will double as a fundraiser for the RNLI’s Fish Supper campaign.

Reis said: ‘For me, cooking and volunteering on the lifeboat have always gone hand in hand. My first job, aged 16, was working for chef Paul Jeffries, who was Cromer lifeboat 2nd

‘Both lads have had to leave us mid-shift on a few occasions, but always for good reasons – and dinner always gets served!’

RNLI volunteers like Reis and Kharn are encouraging people to support them by signing up to host a Fish Supper this October, with donations being made in support of the lifesaving charity.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the RNLI’s ability to generate income, so fundraising events are more important than ever, but with restrictions in place due the pandemic, the RNLI is encouraging people to host their Fish Suppers online, if they can’t be held in person. To sign up to host your own Fish Supper, and to find a load of fantastic recipes from some top celebrity chefs, visit: rnli.org/fish-supper

and Kharn to volunteer on the crew is another way we can do that. We’re looking forward to showing off our new facilities and hopefully raising some money for the charity along the way.

Kharn added: ‘We’re really lucky that Richard and the team at the Grove are so understanding. Usually only one of us leaves work if the pager goes off, so we’ve started playing ‘rock, paper, scissors’ to decide who stays and who goes!’

As for a recipe to try this Fish Supper, here’s a suggestion from Reis: ‘Being a local lad, in my opinion you can’t beat a Cromer crab, eaten out of the shell, with lots of sea salt, black pepper and vinegar. However, The Grove’s ‘Crab Eggs Benedict’ is also a massive winner for me. A modern twist on a classic which is a big hit with our diners. The recipe? That’s a secret!’

Richard Graveling, Partner at The Grove, said: ‘We’ve supported Cromer RNLI as a family and at the hotel for a long time now – helping Reis RNLI Cromer was contacted recently by Peter Waterman, a long time follower of the RNLI who had painted Cromer’s all weather lifeboat ‘Lester’ on the slipway.

Trio of movies in memory of film fan Julian

Sheringham Little Theatre receives lifeline £76,000 culture recovery grant

A short film season is being staged at Sheringham Little Theatre next month in memory of one its staunchest supporters.

Sheringham’s pandemic-hit Little Theatre is celebrating receiving a £76,644 grant from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund.

Julian High (pictured), who died aged 78 last year in November, was a regular at the venue for more than 60 years –as an amateur actor, drama supporter, filmgoer and a raconteur regaling friends in the coffee bar with anecdotes delivered in his trademark deep gravy-rich voice.

The sum helps offset the losses the seaside venue has incurred The Sheringham Little Theatre team since lockdown halted virtually celebrating their recovery grant suc- all live performances since March - and limited its 160 cess. Photo: Richard Batson/ SLT seat auditorium to just 40 people.

A trio of his favourite films – West Side Story, Out of Africa, and Carousel - have been lined up for a special tribute week in November.

His partner for 45 years Tom Dick said: “I am delighted to see these films being screened. Julian has been a life-long lover of film, from the days when he visited the Holt Regal three times a week in the 1940s and 50s.

Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: “This is fantastic news, and the team here are delighted after some worrying weeks. The grant helps us recoup past losses - and to be sustainable in the future, operating under the social distancing restrictions which cuts our capacity to 30pc. It means we can carry on with the programming we were planning – including a panto, some exciting new plays showcasing emerging young talent – and a pioneering project by our youngsters looking at rural racism issues.”

“These were his top three – West Side story regarded by many as the best ever filmed musical, Out of Africa because he was emotionally moved to tears and claimed he never ever saw the last 10 minutes, and Carousel because he appeared in a Norwich amateur production of it as a 19-year-old, in a non-singing role as The Star Maker’. They are marvellous films and I am sure other people will enjoy re-seeing them too,” said Tom, who shared a home in Holt with Julian.

Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: “Julian is greatly missed at the Little Theatre. He was a fantastic volunteer and supporter but mostly he was a friend. We miss him and his jokes!”

The Rapunzel panto is a joint venture with St George’s Theatre in Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Music Hub who will be beaming a live online performance into hundreds of local schools.

The screenings are: Tuesday November 17 (7.30) - West Side Story Thursday November 19 (7.30) - Out of Africa Sunday November 22 (2.30) - Carousel Tickets are £8 each (or if seeing all three the third is £5) from www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com

The Little Theatre is a vital community hub for the performing arts – providing a stage for professional and amateur drama, music, movies, and a busy Hub coffee bar meeting place.

Unorthodox perspectives, a summer in Norfolk

We do it all... without destroying it all.

The project I created with local fine artist Chloe Steele was a real turning point for me, working collaboratively for the first time allowed me to channel my artistic side with someone who ultimately specialises in the medium and thus produced work that not only had my ideas and concepts in it as I had previously been used to but also involved the ideas and concepts of a specialist fine artist.

G T & T T D E S I G N G U R U

The body of work was titled Unorthodox perspectives, a summer in Norfolk and essentially involved the deconstruction of the natural landscape through mixed media forms, altering perspectives and stretching beyond what we consider daily realities using digital imagemaking, hard copy prints and contact to print acrylic paints, felt tips, pencil drawings and so forth. We had a few initial meetings discussing ideas and creating a selection of approaches all whilst under the knowledge that we wanted it to be based on the North Norfolk landscape. Sharing a passion for the landscape was what drove us to ultimately creating the work you see today.

Anaesthetising Pets

At Toll Barn Vets we are honoured to be trusted with loved family pets when they need surgical procedures both in routine and life-threatening situations. When a pet needs an anaesthetic this is understandably a very worrying time for both pet and owner, especially when it is an emergency or a life threatening situation, and we know that understanding what is happening to your pet is really important.

Every veterinary practice is different and has different protocols and procedures for anaesthetics but at Toll Barn Vets we work to a well-established procedure. So what exactly do we consider when your pet needs an anaesthetic?

Firstly we consider the species as many different injectable and gaseous anaesthetic drugs exist. Importantly, different species (and sometimes even different breeds within the same species) respond differently to the each drug and therefore species and breed play an important role in our choice of the right drugs to use to keep your pets as safe as possible. Seeing so many different species and breeds means we have a wide choice available to us, including Sevoflurane, a special gas anaesthetic often used in human paediatric surgery so we are able to choose the very best option for your pet.

Secondly, we perform a detailed pre-anaesthetic check. During this we check heart rate, temperature and breathing rate. We also check for underlying health issues that might affect the

anaesthetic choice. Much like in human hospitals we use this information to produce an ASA Score (an objective measure of the patient’s health and fitness for surgery). This helps us to predict and avoid, or specifically manage, any potential complications during or after the anaesthetic.

Next, our team consider the patients stress levels. Our purpose built separate dog, cat and exotic pet hospital wards along with our calming diffusers and music systems, aim to keep pets calm but by assessing stress or anxiety levels in advance we can make sure pets receive appropriate pre-medication to keep them nice and calm, and avoid any changes that might impact the anaesthetic. When booking admission appointments, we also try to book a later appointment for particularly nervous or anxious pets as this reduces their waiting time.

What about the anaesthetic itself? We hope there is never an anaesthetic complication but we also know it is incredibly important to be prepared just in case. Our Team run regular in house “Anaesthetic Emergency Simulations” to make sure that we are all ready to leap into action should the need arise. One of the key things in an emergency is being able to administer medication into a vein quickly which is why all our patients undergoing anaesthesia have intravenous catheters fitted. This also helps us to administer intravenous fluids to help keep their blood pressure stable. Our team use a full range of specialised multiparameter machines which accurately measure blood pressure,

oxygen and carbon dioxide saturations, temperature, ECG, heart rate, breathing rate and breathing efficiency on patients ranging from the tiniest lizard or bird up to the largest dogs. Of course, all this monitoring is only as good as the person using the equipment! We are very proud to only use qualified veterinary nurses rather than lay staff for all our anaesthetics, and this helps us detect and act on any changes that may occur, helping us to keep your pet as safe as possible.

Following the anaesthetic, patients are recovered in our heated hospital wards where a qualified hospital nurse makes sure they are comfortable by performing regular “pain scores”, as well as making sure they have as many home comforts as possible to make their stay comfortable.

Obviously this is a very brief summary of what is involved with anaesthetising your pet, so please give us a call on 01692 407126 if you would like to discuss your individual pets procedure.

Rule of Law

by Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr

The Rule of Law in relation to the Brexit negotiations is much in the news currently. At least it makes a change from the pandemic.

In England we do not have a written constitution: nor should we. The closest thing we have is the Rule of Law. It may sound like a computer game or the title of an airport novel, but it is ancient. Lawyers and others can get emotional about it. To some it has become emblematic of what makes English law great. Its origins are ancient and found in many societies and philosophies worldwide.

The Rule of Law is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as: "The authority and influence of law in society, especially when viewed as a constraint on individual and institutional behaviour; (hence) the principle whereby all members of a society (including those in government) are considered equally subject to publicly disclosed legal codes and processes."

The Rule of Law means that Law is supreme and is above every individual. The Rule of Law is a system to protect citizens against their Government, so as to ensure it does not treat them unfairly, or arbitrarily deprive

them of their rights. It has evolved into being viewed by the liberal young as synonymous with human rights.

As a rookie law student in the 1980s we all had the sturdy orange book on Constitutional Law on our shelves. The first edition was written in 1885 by British jurist A. V. Dicey. It was not a fun read but had weightiness and determination about it which made us feel that what we were studying really mattered. Dicey coined the expression ‘The Rule of Law’ but did not invent the idea lying behind it.

In England, the Rule of Law is a longstanding principle of the way the country is governed, dating from Magna Carta in 1215 and the Bill of Rights 1689. The 19th century, brought the twin pillars of the British constitution which are the rule of law and parliamentary sovereignty.

Thomas Bingham, successively Master of the Rolls, Lord Chief Justice and Senior Law Lord of the United Kingdom, and the only person to hold all three offices, wrote ‘The Rule of Law’, published in 2008, 6 months before he died. It was chosen as ‘book of the year’ by several eminent people across the political spectrum.

Bingham said he first chose the title as a subject for a lecture he was asked to give some years before, as he was not sure he knew what it meant. He also said that those who used the expression did not know either, or did not mean the same thing. Following the lecture, The Guardian newspaper media described Lord Bingham as ‘the most revolutionary man in Britain’.

The Rule of Law has come to mean an amalgam of human rights and civil liberties, on the one hand, and security against a terrorist attack, on the other. It is a good thing, but the meaning is different and tailored (and twisted) to suit the purposes of those that use it.

Pizza to go at the Grove - Although winter is nearly here it’s still possible to experience a taste of the summer in Cromer.

The Grove launched their handmade stone baked pizzas on the lawns during the peak season to huge acclaim, full houses and long waiting lists as visitors and local residents enjoyed a new venture for the town under festoon lights and real fire burners. And now the family-run business is offering Cromer folk the chance to keep sampling their delicious pizzas with a takeaway service starting from November 1st. Head chef Reis Khalil said: “Our pizza menu was a huge success in the summer, and we’ve invested a fair amount to get a really good product. There’s a lot

of variety on the menu, from a classic tomato and mozzarella to a Gressingham duck special, and of course we can cater for specific dietary requirements too. Ever since we’ve started it’s sat beautifully alongside our two Rosette a la carte menu, but even in the summer we had lots of calls enquiring about takeaway pizzas so we’ve decided to take the plunge and offer them for the rest of the year.” Menus can be found at www.thegrovecromer.co.uk/restaurant We’re still serving food every evening from 5pm, plus beautiful afternoon tea each day and pizza to take away from 1st November. 01263 512412 for more information.

Crab Eggs Benedict We all know that the largest chalk reef in Europe lurks off the coast of Cromer and provides the most incredibly succulent crab and lobster which features on many a menu across the whole of the UK (in fact we saw Cromer Crab starring at Grand Central Station’s oyster bar in New York

in the early 2000s). But this tradition may be under threat with authorities threatening a dramatic reduction in fishing, or alternative methods to the traditional crab pots used by the local fishermen for centuries.

Whilst everyone is in favour of conservation it would be great to think that there is room for a happy medium in this case, allowing fishermen to fish and crabs to thrive. Rest assured we will continue to have this fantastic food on our menus, with this superb Crab Eggs Benedict to start a huge hit in the summer especially. Crab Eggs Benedict 1 crab 1 tsp of coriander chopped 1 spring onion chopped finely 1tblsp mayonnaise Pinch of salt and pepper

Mix well in a ceramic bowl with a fork Place the mixture on half a toasted English muffin Balance a poached egg on the crab mix Pour three tablespoons of Hollandaise sauce over and garnish with chopped chives.

Autumn Bake Off!

It’s the ‘Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’ according to Keats, and what better time to dust off your baking equipment and make a little treat for the weekend. If you are going to treat yourself, (or someone else) do it in style and go for quality rather than quantity. A really sumptuous and fresh homemade cake is a wonderful treat and appreciated by all; it’s a rare person who can say no to a squishy, moist and wholesome homemade cake, baked with care and love and a bit of individual flair. Sure, it may not look like every other cake, but that’s kind of the point. You don’t want to churn out something that looks like Mr Kipling, you want a bit of individuality, and if it’s a little imperfect, well that just proves you made it! The point is

Autumn is surely the perfect time for gorgeous indulgent cakes....as if we really needed an excuse for one. And we can convince ourselves that we are being a tiny bit healthy by the addition of carrots in this one. This lovely moist cake is a real crowd pleaser; a fabulous mixture of spice, sweetness, fruit and gooey frosting, it’s the perfect way to round off an Autumn celebration. 6 oz soft brown sugar 6 oz Butter 8 oz SR Flour 2 oz Ground Almonds 2 tsp Cinnamon 1 hpd tsp Nutmeg 1 ½ tsp Baking Powder 3 Eggs

3 Tblsp Milk 4 oz Sultanas 6 oz Grated Carrot

FROSTED CARROT AND NUTMEG CAKE FOR FROSTING: 2 oz butter, room temperature 3 oz full-fat cream cheese Orange zest 4 oz icing sugar, sifted Cream sugar and butter. Sift all dry ingredients together into a separate bowl. Whisk eggs and milk together and add flour and egg mixture alternately into the butter, until all incorporated. Stir in fruit and carrot. Place into greased and floured deep square 9 inch baking tin, and cook on 180 for approx 30 – 40 mins, or until skewer comes out clean. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Meanwhile, make frosting as follows: Cream butter until pale, stir in cream cheese and essence, and gradually add icing sugar. Top cake with the frosting, adding some orange zest for decoration. COMMUNITY IN THE TIME OF COVID

Words cannot express how pleased we were to welcome groups back to Weybourne Village Hall at the beginning of September.

Village Halls are all about the people who use them, enabling organisations of all shapes and sizes to give that boost to well-being, which can only come from the camaraderie of a shared activity, never more important than in 2020. Efforts by the Committee at Weybourne Village Hall have enabled us to work with user groups to minimize risks and provide a ‘Covid secure’ environment. This means that both user groups and the management committee have to complete Risk Assessments to comply with government coronavirus guidelines, as they change and evolve.

Over the last few years we have built on the work of previous trustees and volunteers to

to provide audio/visual equipment and WIFI, thanks to a grant from the National Lottery’s Coronavirus Community Support Fund. As more groups return, they will be able to share their activities remotely with anyone who is not yet able to attend a group in person. We are delighted that some new groups have booked our facilities, while being happy to keep the slots open for our regular users whose members may not be quite ready to start up again.

Current clubs and classes, all socially distanced, include Table Tennis, Pilates, Yoga, Singing, Art, and Badminton.

Openwide Coastal and Nigel Hogg Productions join forces to support struggling artists

Openwide Coastal Ltd, operators and custodians of Cromer Pier and Pavilion Theatre and producers of the Cromer Show have donated the Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre on a ‘not for profit’ basis to Nigel Hogg Productions to help support variety artists left unable to work and earn an income through the Covid crisis. This generous gesture is allowing the artists to continue to keep the spirit of entertainment alive and is providing the acts with some income during these difficult times.

The theatre staged a summer show and took measures to ensure that they were Covid-secure, with audience numbers restricted to significantly below the 500 seat capacity of the venue. Whilst the reduced audience capacity makes it impossible to stage the usual Cromer Christmas show, Openwide Coastal Ltd and Nigel Hogg Productions, in association with North Norfolk District Council, are providing a venue and stage for variety acts to showcase their talents to try and support them through this difficult crisis. The artists then split the take from box office receipts to generate a small amount of income from

each performance.

Nigel and his team have created a Christmas programme of entertainment called ‘Strictly Christmas’ which is a 90 minute variety show with a Christmassy theme and encompasses a mix of entertainment including 3 regular acts;

Olly Day, Rob McVeigh the singer and a brilliant magic act called Amethyst. There will also be a different guest act at each performance. The first performance is on Friday 4th December and shows will run through until 1st January 2021

Nigel Hogg said: “We were absolutely thrilled with the support that we had

Openwide Coastal receives lifeline from Arts Council England Culture Recovery Fund

Openwide Coastal Ltd, proud custodians and operators of Cromer Pier and Pavilion Theatre on behalf of North Norfolk District Council and the producers of the world famous Cromer Pier Show for the last 19 years, are delighted with the news from Arts Council England that they have been awarded a grant from the Culture Recovery Fund.

for our Summer shows with most shows selling out at the reduced capacity of 100! The performers were delighted to be back on stage doing what they love most and being able to earn a small amount of money so we are really excited to be able to get them back on stage for Christmas! We really would encourage everyone to help us save the arts by booking a ticket to enjoy a safe, fun night out and let us bring some Christmas magic cack to Cromer Pier!” The 90-minute show has been accredited with a ‘We’re Good to Go’ stamp of approval by Visit England and North Norfolk District Council is also supporting the venture which will continue the tradition of keeping variety alive this Christmas at the end of the pier in Cromer.

Face coverings must be worn during the show. Tickets are £15 for adults or £7.50 for children under 16. Booking is for unallocated seating, and audience members will be seated by the ushers in their social bubbles. Any unsold tickets will be available at the door. Ticket collection is only from the pop-up box office in the Pavilion Bar, no postage option is available.

For more information, show times and to book a ticket visit www.cromerpier.co.uk

With reduced audience capacities and government restrictions during the pandemic, it has been impossible to stage the usual Cromer Summer and Christmas shows this year. This grant will help the theatre survive and re-open next summer.

Rory Holburn, Director at Openwide Coastal commented, “This has been an extremely difficult time for us but this grant will help by covering some of the losses we have already incurred and will incur from being closed this year. It also assists in ensuring the team we still have on payroll can now remain in place to enable us to re-open next summer without losing any of their knowledge and expertise that help make the show such a renowned success.”

“The Pier and Pavilion Theatre are also cornerstones of the local Tourism economy so we are delighted that we will be able to also help provide a much needed boost next spring as all businesses attempt to recover from the damage the pandemic has done.”

Rory concluded, “This really will help the Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre survive the next 6 months and assist as we try to re-build the business over the next few years with our partners at NNDC. We would really like to thank both the department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and the Arts Council for making this money available and recognising the importance of this national treasure to the cultural landscape.”

Openwide Coastal is looking forward to keeping the spirit of entertainment alive in the local community and it is wonderful to see the only full season end of pier variety show in the world will be back with us next year, pandemic allowing. www.rosevillapublications.co.uk

Norfolk & Suffolk Police in Paw-session of two new four-legged furry recruits

Puppy police dogs Remus and Milo, with their respective new handler’s PC Stuart Watson and PC Adam Haylock, join the team specialising in drugs, cash and weapons searches.

Both Springer Spaniels, aged just 13-weeks-old were litter brothers and will start their journey in both forces by assisting their handlers on duty, getting used to various surroundings. They will then go on to begin formal training in 12 months’ time.

PPD Remus will eventually join PD Hera as a crime fighting duo and PD Milo will join PD Loki. Officers within the dog section intend on documenting their journey and training as they both eventually become drugs/weapons and cash specialist search dogs. It comes as both PD Billy and PD Ivan retire from their duties.

Inspector Sally Hammerton from Joint Protective Services said: "We are very pleased to welcome both Remus and Milo into the police family. We are looking forward to watching them grow within the force as they eventually progress into drugs, weapons and cash specialist search dogs. Whilst we love seeing our furry friends develop specialist skills through training, we must remember those who have already dedicated their lives to the force. We sadly lost PD Claude earlier this year, after he had been suffering with a number of health problems. Claude was an exceptional dog and will be fondly remembered by all handlers in the section, as well as those officers and staff who had the pleasure of meeting him.”

Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Lorne Green, said: "A big welcome to Remus and Milo, who join a great team and vital part of the policing family. Embarking on their police dog journey, they’ll be in excellent company as they follow in the paw prints of PD heroes like Claude. We owe our police dogs and handlers, who dedicate their lives to sniffing out crime and keeping our communities safe, a debt of gratitude.”

County Councillor News

from County Councillor Sarah Butikofer sarah.butikofer.cllr@norfolk.gov.uk or 07968 897235

clint_brown_1@hotmail.com

Since writing last time I am sure you will have heard the news that Norfolk County Council have now formerly proposed the closure of Holt Hall. I am absolutely staggered they have made a decision with such widespread implications without properly consulting not only with local schools and local community groups, but without properly engaging with all your locally democratically elected representatives. They tell us they consulted with schools across Norfolk for ONLY eleven days, hardly a proper consultation period! At a time when frankly I am sure most teachers are concentrating on delivering the very best education they can to our young people, in some of the most difficult circumstances teachers have ever faced. Reading the report just serves to reinforce what most of us already knew, that Holt Hall is an exemplary facility achieving some of the highest customer service levels in the business. The Friends of Holt Hall have launched an online petition to try and change the minds of those in control at the County Council, if you haven’t already signed please put Holt Hall Petition into the search bar of your computer and the petition will pop up for you to sign. In a week the team have collected over 2000 signatures and the number are growing daily, if we get to 4,500 we can demand a debate at the County Council.

As I mentioned last time we are now responding to the government’s recent planning White Paper, and those of you who are interested can go onto the District Council’s website to see our response. Just two concerns that will be of interest to most readers, are the proposed changes to responding to planning applications online and the guidance on affordable housing. We are very concerned to ensure that any changes to the current consultation system should increase resident’s opportunities to comment on applications in their area, not decrease them.

C

I will very much miss the opportunity to pay my respects at the Holt War Memorial this year due to the Covid restrictions, but this does not mean the fallen of the town will be forgotten in my heart as we mark the national day of remembrance at the District Council offices – We will always remember them.

For now I would like to end with a final thanks to everyone for the part they continue to play in helping to keep us as safe as possible. I have just left a very sobering call that tells us cases are rising across Norfolk please remain vigilant, take care and be considerate of the concerns of others as we move forwards, sadly this virus is still with us. As always if you would like further information on any of these issues or would like to get involved in a campaign to Save Holt Hall please do get in touch. Until the next time.

On a more positive note, I am pleased work is now underway to start addressing some of the highways issues around the Hempstead Road, and that the new road to the industrial estate is finally open. I spoke this afternoon with the highways engineer again, as some residents have contacted me regarding concerns about traffic speeds on The Cromer Road and The Kelling Road, he has agreed that with the agreement of the Town Council we can deploy a SAM 2 traffic camera to the area. I will be raising the issue with your town council at their next meeting. Several residents have also raised issues about cars parked on residential roads around the town again, we have asked for more enforcement around double yellow lines as some people are parking making it very difficult for residents to exit their properties safely. Please be aware.

MAJOR STEP FORWARD FOR SHERINGHAM ROUNDABOUT A new roundabout for Sheringham is a step closer today after the County Council begins work on a draft business case. New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership has invited Norfolk County Council to put forward a business case in support of the proposed A148/Holway Road roundabout. The project is then set to be added to an ‘investment pipeline’: a list of ‘shovel-ready’ projects to be completed as soon as the funding becomes available. Judy Oliver, County Councillor for Sheringham, Upper Sheringham, and Beeston Regis said: “From surveys over the past few years, we know a new roundabout on this dangerous junction continues to be the No 1 improvement Sheringham residents would like to see. It has massive benefits not only for residents, but for businesses and for our many visitors who come to enjoy what the town has to offer. Sheringham church runs successful packed lunch project

Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham ran a project to provide packed lunches to local needy children over the October half term, when school lunches were not available.

Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, many families have been affected by a reduction in financial stability. Because Sheringham is a seasonal seaside resort many local businesses employ large numbers of staff during the summer and rely on this season for their survival throughout the year. This year’s summer season has been shorter owing to the earlier lockdown, and last year’s business was affected by the sinkhole which blocked the High Street for several weeks.

This all appears to be causing financial difficulties for many families, which in turn often leads to food poverty. The termination of the furlough scheme at the end of this month is expected to exacerbate the problems.

Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham was determined to provide some help to the community in the light of all this and contacted North Norfolk Children’s Services to see what they could do. From this, Operation Packed

Lunch was conceived in order to provide packed lunches, as the name suggests, for vulnerable families, on four days during October Half Term.

Lighthouse café manager Maggie Rothe co-ordinated the project, along with church minister Ian Savory. Maggie said “We are particularly concerned about those families that could normally fall through the net, as they might not yet qualify for free school meals, for example. This is just a very practical way we can offer some support to the community at this difficult time”

Financial support for the scheme was provided by the Sheringham Poors and Ploughlet Trust,

and food was supplied free of charge by Tesco, Sheringham, Morrisons in Cromer, and Dawn Fresh greengrocers.

The first packed lunches were given out on Friday October 23, with further distributions on Monday October 26, Wednesday 28 and Friday 30. Many folk called in to collect the lunches from Lighthouse on Cromer Road, but where they were not able to do this, Lighthouse volunteers delivered them to the grateful families. Some 160 packed lunches were provided in total.

Ian Savory, senior leader at Lighthouse, said “With the expected worsening employment situation when the furlough scheme ends, we could run something similar in future, possibly during the Christmas school holidays. We simply want to help local people at this time”.

Raynham Estate announces plans for Outdoor Christmas Market

Raynham Estate, in north Norfolk, will host its first ever Outdoor Christmas Market across four days this November and December. With a festive mix of local produce, gifts, crafts, street food, a bar and even locally-grown Christmas trees, the free market will be open on 28th and 29th November and the 5th and 6th December, from 10am to 3pm each day.

garden, leaving an open space in the middle.

Lisa Wheeler, event manager at Raynham Estate explains “Working to a strict covidsecure risk assessment, we will check people in and out with a maximum number of guests being able to visit at one time.

Free to attend, visitors are being asked to pre-book and pay for their car parking online, to help the organisers monitor and manage numbers safely. Revenue from car parking fees will be split between YANA, the charity for rural mental health support, and local air cadets.

For the first time this year, the estate’s beautiful, walled garden will play host to the Outdoor Christmas Market, carefully designed to be completely covid-secure. The Raynham Outdoor Christmas Market will include up to 75 stalls, each under its own gazebo, positioned around the edge of the walled

“As the saying goes, ‘There’s no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing’,” continues Lisa Wheeler. “Our event will take place whatever the winter weather brings, and while there’ll be mulled wine and hot chocolate on sale to warm people, we would urge visitors to dress for a day in the brisk, beautiful Norfolk countryside.”

Entrance to the outdoor market is free, with a £3 parking charge per car. Parking spaces must be booked in advance at

www.ticketsource.co.uk/ whats-on?q=raynham

to help with monitoring of guest numbers. A QR code will be available to assist with test and trace.

There will be a one-way system and, apart from when they are eating, visitors will need to wear masks, unless they are exempt for medical reasons.”

Cost effective, cutting edge laser and skin treatments and treatment combinations are available at the Coltishall Clinic

We realise that this year has been tough for most people and we are offering special pricing for the winter season on some of our treatment packages and combinations.

Coltishall Clinic is well known for offering effective cutting edge laser, skin and vein care treatments and have patients travel from all over the world for such treatments and results. One of our unique serving proposition [USP] is that we offer a full range of services under one roof. We firmly believe in the importance of a full ‘tool-box’ so that we can offer customized bespoke treatments to our patients. Patients are often pleasantly surprised when they think surgery is the only answer to their problems but it turns out that a much better option for them is non-surgical! This is the beauty of coming to a clinic like ours where we are very fortunate to work with a full range of laser and light devices, non surgical, minimally invasive and surgical options.

Only a well-equipped clinic with experience can offer you such a well-rounded package.

So here are some popular treatment packages and combinations on offer for you. Please do check the website for latest information before calling to book! Laser hair removal - 30% off treatment course

A recipe book aimed at the growing numbers of Food Bank users has been published by the Slow Food group in Aylsham. All the recipes are based on the contents of a typical food bank parcel – mainly non-perishable canned and dried foods – and are simple, easy to follow, to encourage those who receive food parcels to get the best out of their rations. Called Canny Cooking, the 24page, fully illustrated handbook, compiled by SFA members was presented to Cromer Food Bank in September to give away to customers who are reluctant cooks but keen to try. Each recipe was tried and tested by at least three Slow Food members.

Have a happy Christmas!

reuse and help to reduce plastic pollution. For something slightly different, choose an ethically-sourced, pure soy wax candle set in a coconut half shell, which would look stunning on a Christmas table.

Since opening in Holt’s Franklyns Yard this summer, Amber Organics has become the place to discover high quality CBD oil products, and the company has recently added to its range with an excellent value 15% CBD oil from HapiHemp, alongside its high quality Milagro products.

For someone who loves the finer things in life, indulge them with a luxury candle from Rathbornes. With a choice of six fabulous scents, Rathbornes pillar candles have been handmade in Dublin since 1488, and are supplied to stately homes and cathedrals around the UK, making them a beautiful addition to any home.

With the busy festive season ahead, if you are interested in the wellbeing benefits of CBD for you or your loved ones, pop in and chat to Amber Organics’ friendly team. With topical products and even a CBD tea, find out about the potential of this wellbeing wonder to make you feel good!

There is also an excellent range of hemp-based products in-store, including handy shoppers and even a reusable wine gift bag – save on the paper and pop a bottle in one of these fab totes as you spread a little Christmas cheer.

Alongside its extensive CBD range, Amber Organics is a treasure trove of gifts to treat family and friends this season. With an emphasis on ethically-sourced, sustainable products, there is a fantastic range of presents, from original stocking stuffers to beautiful additions for the home.

Finally, gift a delicious treat with a pack of locally-sourced, vegetarian sweets from the Ely Fudge Company. With a range of six flavours, including a delicious vanilla and clotted cream fudge, their tempting products are irresistible and you might just need to treat yourself to a pack or two too!

They might be a Christmas gift staple, but jazz things up with a couple of pairs of Swole Panda’s brightly-coloured bamboo socks which will put a smile on their face and keep their tootsies warm. Or gift a bamboo straw kit – each straw comes with a brush cleaner so that they can rinse,
