5 QUICK TIPS TO CUT PROPANE COSTS A PHOTO TOUR OF COASTAL

Peace of mind on the road

Traveling comes with its share of uncertainties, and having insurance for your travel trailer provides you with the peace of mind that you deserve. Whether you’re cruising down the highway or parked at a scenic campsite, knowing that your investment is protected can make your travels even more enjoyable.

Protection against the unexpected Damage to your travel trailer can happen when you least expect it. Comprehensive and collision travel trailer insurance can cover you in case of events that are out of your control, like a tree limb falling on your trailer. Optional Pest Damage ProtectionSM provides coverage for damage from pests such as rats, mice, insects, birds, or other nondomesticated animals.

Coverage for personal belongings

Your travel trailer is not just a mode of transportation; it’s your home on wheels. Optional personal effects coverage can help cover the cost of personal belongings inside the trailer, providing nancial assistance in case of theft or damage.

When auto insurance isn’t enough

Auto insurance generally provides coverage for your travel trailer only when it is connected to your vehicle and may assist in cases where your trailer causes damage to another vehicle. However, it typically does not provide standalone coverage for repairing or replacing your trailer if it sustains damage or is totaled.

You can choose travel trailer insurance options that help cover those expenses and may even offer the bene t of total loss replacement coverage.

When homeowners insurance

isn’t enough

Homeowners insurance may provide some coverage for your belongings, but often has limitations when the trailer is off your property. A customized travel trailer insurance policy can ensure that your trailer and belongings are adequately covered.

Liability protection

Accidents involving your travel trailer can also lead to liability issues. Insurance can provide protection against third-party claims, covering medical expenses or property damage that may arise from an incident involving your trailer.

Insuring your travel trailer is not just a precaution; it’s a commitment to a worry-free travel experience. Safeguard your investment, enjoy the journey, and make every moment on the road a memory worth cherishing. Start your adventure with the con dence that comes from knowing your travel trailer is protected against life’s unexpected twists and turns.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

I CAN’T BELIEVE 2025 IS HERE, but I’m actually really excited about it!

As a true ambassador for this lifestyle (even though I don’t dance on TikTok—I promise you do not want to see that), I am very passionate about the RV lifestyle and just being outdoors in general.

We launched RV Today back in 2021 to introduce the hobby/lifestyle of RVing to as many people as we can. So far, we have reached more than 1 million people, and for some, this is their first stop to find out about RVs and how to get the most out of their RV. I personally want to thank you for subscribing and reading on a regular basis.

I am also shocked by how well print has been selling year over year! It’s starting to become pretty obvious that people want to disconnect from their devices, and magazines and books are a great way to do that.

Let’s hope that we can all get outdoors and on the road more this year. I encourage you to invite people you know who have never experienced RVing or camping and introduce them to these unique experiences.

There’s a phrase I’ve been hearing—experiences over things—and what I think people forget is sometimes it takes things (like an RV) to go out and have these truly unique experiences.

I have a challenge for both myself and you this year. When you are in the middle of a “pinch me” moment, like an amazing experience or a gorgeous view, don’t pull out your phone and take a picture or video. Just be present. Take a moment to engrave it in your memory. Make it a core memory, not one that requires a social network to remind you a few years from now that you experienced it.

I hope you have a great 2025, and I hope to see you on the road!

MANUFACTURERS ARE WORKING FUN new details, designs, and features into their 2025 models and we’re excited to share them with you in this issue of RV Today. Some features, like hidden storage compartments and beautiful aesthetics, are sure to catch your attention just as they have caught ours. Your next RV might have some of these unique features. Check them all out in our 2025 Trends story here, and let us know your thoughts at rvtoday.

meet FEATURED RVER

“I grew up camping and was always happiest at a campground or in the great outdoors.”

Who travels with you?

My husband, Anthony, our cat, Tiskies, and our dachshund, Butters

What do you travel in?

Forest River EVO 178RT, a 17-foot toy hauler

What kind of RVer are you? Full-timer

How long have you been RVing?

More than four years

What has been your most memorable RVing moment?

Finding a spot at the Grand Canyon all to ourselves and watching our two senior fur babies soak in the view with us. It was one of those moments where we could really tell that we’re giving them the best life we possibly can.

Is there anything specific that made you want to RV?

I grew up camping and was always happiest at a campground or in the great outdoors. As an adult, I felt stuck

and miserable in the corporate world. In college, one of my professors, who had written a Moon travel guide, encouraged me to pursue travel writing. I went down the rabbit hole of vanlife and was determined to spend the rest of my life nomadically. I met my husband a few years later, told him my crazy dreams, and he decided to tag along!

What’s something about you that people might find surprising to know?

I'm the driver of our rig—no Passenger Princess here! I’ve towed our little home on wheels for 50,000-plus miles over the past 3.5 years, with six crosscountry trips!

Hacks

PLACE ADHESIVE KITCHEN TOWEL HOOKS IN CONVENIENT LOCATIONS

Use inexpensive adhesive towel hooks to make kitchen towels and washcloths accessible while also keeping them in place on travel days.

DIGITIZE YOUR LIFE

Instead of carrying paper documents, files, receipts, and other records, go digital instead. Digitize your documents using a scanner or an app like TurboScan, then store the files in the cloud or on a hard drive. It takes up less space and weight, and helps keep you more organized.

DOWNLOAD IN ADVANCE

Plan ahead for your trip—download music, podcasts, audiobooks, games, and videos to your devices while you’re connected to Wi-Fi to save on data usage when traveling.

ENABLE GPS LOCATION FOR EMERGENCY CONTACTS

It’s a good idea for loved ones to know where you are, so add a family member, friend, or emergency contact to an app that always shows your geographic location. Google Maps, Apple’s Find My app, Glympse, and Life360 are a few options.

CONVERT A BUNK AREA INTO AN OFFICE

Convert an RV bunkhouse into a dedicated office to close off from the rest of the RV for increased privacy and productivity.

2025 Trends

MANUFACTURERS ARE STEPPING INTO 2025 with upgrades that redefine the RV experience. This year’s lineups highlight a growing focus on blending indoor comfort with outdoor adventure, introducing features that seamlessly bring the outdoors in. From thoughtful and practical new details to unexpected aesthetics, here are some of the features and trends we’ve noticed for the year ahead.

Bye-Bye Dinettes

Gone are the days of the traditional built-in dinette—some manufacturers are embracing a more residential feel by swapping fixed dining booths for freestanding tables and chairs. This trend adds a touch of elegance and provides greater flexibility for seating arrangements and interior design. RVers can enjoy a more open and versatile living space, making mealtime and gatherings more comfortable and adaptable to their needs.

Hardwired Electric Space Heaters

“We’ve seen electric fireplaces with heating elements for a while, but in many new rigs, we’re starting to see more wallmounted electric heaters and air conditioning units that come with a heat option. I love this trend because it makes heating your RV significantly safer. Since the manufacturers are building these heating elements, and their electrical load, into the overall system, there is less chance of RVers overloading their electrical system by plugging in standalone space heaters.”

Sundecks and Patios

Manufacturers are elevating outdoor living with the introduction of sundecks. This innovative feature creates an extended space for relaxing, entertaining, or simply enjoying the views. Equipped with railings and durable flooring,

sundecks and patios transform your RV into a portable oasis. Perfect for everything from morning coffee to evening stargazing, this trend brings a whole new level of luxury and functionality to enjoying the great outdoors.

Emphasis on Aesthetics

Seamlessly blending form and function, this year’s RVs raise the bar on style. One standout example from Keystone RV Company is the integration of sleek, collapsible chairs that fit snugly into the front panel of the kitchen island. When stowed, the chairs create a striking

geometric pattern, doubling as both practical seating and an artistic design feature. This trend reflects a growing focus on making interiors visually stunning in addition to functional, turning everyday elements into statement pieces.

Hard-to-reach upper cabinet features pull-down storage

Smart Storage Solutions

Smart storage solutions are taking center stage in RV design, with features like this pull-down box in an upper cabinet we found from Keystone. This innovative addition makes it easier than ever to access items stored in hard-to-reach spaces, while also maximizing available storage space. Whether you’re grabbing ingredients in the kitchen or organizing supplies, this thoughtful

feature demonstrates how manufacturers are prioritizing both functionality and user experience in their latest designs. Some companies are introducing specialized features like this hidden built-in jewelry tray with organizers. The thoughtfully designed compartments offer a secure and accessible way to store small items, keeping them organized and protected while traveling.

Bold Exterior Designs

Companies are transforming the traditional look of RVs, moving away from the standard, predictable exteriors of the past. Makers are experimenting with modern aesthetics, such as sleek matte finishes and minimalist graphic designs, to create a more refined and modern look. These fresh approaches make RVs stand out on the road while also appealing to a new generation of adventurers who value style as much as functionality.

RVing Activities

IDEAS FOR FAMILY FUN

WINTER CAN BE SUCH A MEANINGFUL TIME OF YEAR, and spending time in your RV can make it even better. From embracing the outdoors during the less busy off-season to cozying up inside for hot chocolate while enjoying the snowy scenery, the winter season brings some of the easiest and most affordable ways to have fun bonding with family. Winter activities can be so much more than skiing, sledding, and train rides. We prefer budget-friendly options that require minimal setup, and it should be no surprise that they often include food!

What sounds dreamier during the cold wintertime months than a hot chocolate bar? This is a golden opportunity to interact with your children and sit back while they mix, match, and create hot chocolate concoctions for you and your other family members. You can be as creative as you’d like with this, and if you want to take it a step

further, you can personalize your hot chocolate bar with homemade menus and signs with the kids’ names. This is always a hit with our children, and it’s so easy to do.

How about an ice cream charcuterie board, where you and your family share all your favorite ice cream toppings? This activity can also be as big or as small as you’d like. It can be a great repeat activity and something fun to look forward to. You can easily swap out ice cream for frozen yogurt if you’d like.

Bringing in nature as part of your fun allows you to connect to your location, explore the outdoors, and stay active. Making a natural garland is another favorite of my family. You can keep this inside as a decoration for the season, or find a place outdoors to string it in a tree for birds and squirrels.

Making “reindeer food” is another nature-based activity that gets the whole family outside while getting everyone in the holiday

Bringing in nature as part of your fun allows you to connect to your location, explore the outdoors, and stay active.

spirit! I love to include the natural elements of wherever we may be. It’s so fun to encourage our children to get creative with what they think the reindeer would love as a Christmas Eve snack!

Creating place card settings with the natural elements around us is a more meaningful nature activity that’s close to my heart. If you’re not in an area that will allow for this, don’t be afraid to run to a local craft store and pick up some dried flowers and leaves. We love to encourage intentional conversation about who we are creating a place card for and what they mean to us. You can use leaves, berries, twine, ribbon, and whatever else you can think of to make this tradition your own.

Embracing the outdoors over the winter months is a must. No matter where you are during the holidays, being in nature is one of the best things you can do for

yourself and your family. We love to find local parks and nature paths, and to explore national parks over the winter months.

I’ve purposely saved my favorite activity for last, and it might already be one of your favorite things to do as well—exploring the local scene where you are camping. Participating in local wintertime traditions is a great way to explore a new town and submerge yourself in the local culture.

Feel free to add your own twist to these activities and make them your own. Remember that RVing is truly about community, and what better time to say hello to your RV neighbors than over the winter months? I encourage you to invite some neighbors over and embark on some of these activities together.

QUICKTIPS FOR CUTTING PROPANE COSTS

IF YOU’RE NEW TO RUNNING

PROPANE, you might be surprised and frustrated by how quickly you have to replace the tanks. There can be a learning curve when it comes to efficiently heating with propane in your RV. Use these quick and easy tips to cut down your propane costs this winter.

Information adapted from RV Miles. The RV Miles podcast is the highest-rated RV-focused podcast for outdoor enthusiasts. To listen, visit rvmiles.com/podcast

1

INSULATE YOUR WINDOWS

Insulating windows is one of the fastest and easiest ways to maintain the warmth in your RV and keep cold drafts out. We recommend using window insulation kits, which come with heat-shrink plastic and double stick tape. We covered all 18 of our windows when we winter camped for a month, and it drastically reduced the cold draft the windows gave off. Reflectix is another insulating material that can be used, but it also blocks the sun from coming in, and the sun helps to heat up the RV. That’s why we recommend window insulation kits instead.

BONUS TIP:

Anything helps! Even grabbing a blanket, rug, or rag to block areas where cold drafts might be coming in is a quick and easy way to insulate your RV.

2

VENT MANAGEMENT

To heat much more efficiently, only heat the rooms you’re in. When you’re done with the bedrooms in the morning, cover the vents. This will force the heat into the other rooms.

3

USE AN ELECTRIC HEATER

Electric heaters can be a good way to supplement heating in your RV while also cutting back on propane consumption. Our electric fireplace provides plenty of heat to the main living and kitchen areas, and we use ceramic heaters to help keep the bedrooms warm. When using an electric heater in an RV, be sure to choose one with safety features. Never plug one into a power strip or undersized extension cord. Do not plug them into a circuit being used by anything else. We also prefer not

to run them while sleeping. They do take a lot of power to operate, so you’ll have to be aware of the power draw, especially on 30 amps.

BONUS TIP:

If your RV has a heated underbelly, it’s important to understand that it is being protected by the propane furnace. So don’t turn it off entirely—just use it at a minimum level if temperatures reach freezing outside.

4

LAYER UP

One of the most obvious ways to stay warm without using a whole lot of heat is to dress warmly. You might be surprised by how comfortable you can be when it’s 50 degrees inside if you layer up with wool socks, a hat, and a base layer.

FILL INSTEAD OF EXCHANGING TANKS

If you have 20-pound propane tanks, one of the best ways to save money is to have the tanks filled instead of exchanging them. Many national chains, like Menards and Tractor Supply Company, will fill your tanks at a charge per gallon that is much cheaper than if you exchange the tank. You can also fill your tank at a cost per gallon at many campgrounds, and some have a special deal for doing so, like getting every fifth refill free.

A bonus to having the tanks filled as opposed to doing an exchange is that you actually get more. It says right on the exchange bottle that you’re only getting 16 pounds of propane, compared to 20 on a fill. Also, that way you’re only paying for the propane that you use, and any propane you haven’t used isn’t lost.

Wendy Oaks RV Resort

4160 US 49 Florence, MS 39073 wendyoaksrvresort.com

Wendy Oaks RV Resort is a quaint, 36-site RV park located conveniently off Highway 49 south of Jackson, Mississippi, with natural surroundings that make it feel like you’re truly camping. The park has lots of beautiful trees and a small lake, which we loved walking our dog around every day. When the original owner, Wendy, passed away, her younger sister, Melanie, stepped in to run the park. It has a family-owned charm, and Melanie will greet you with a smile when you arrive. Campers who enjoy a more personal experience will love staying here.

GEAR

1.

BOUGERV ELECTRIC TONGUE JACK COVER

Protecting your travel trailer’s plastic motor head from UV rays will prolong the life of the jack. Our first cover lasted for 3.5 years of full-time travel, so buying another was an easy decision. The fabric keeps all the buttons usable without removing the cover.

DEXTER-RUSSELL SPATULA

Cooking on your outdoor griddle can be even better with this stainless steel and walnut turner. It feels great in your hand and is the perfect size for almost any use. It’s also made in the United States.

FIVE CROWNS CARD GAME

This is a family favorite and a unique twist on the classic Rummy card game. Suitable for two to seven players, our family has spent hours battling it out “until the Kings Go Wild!” At the size of two decks of cards, it’s easy to pack and sure to be a campground hit.

4.

UNICOOK PIZZA STONE

Keeping a pizza stone inside your RV oven does wonders to even out the heat from the burners. We’ve had this sitting in our RV oven for more than four years and it helps dramatically. It’s great for cooking pizza, but it’s also beneficial when baking or cooking casseroles!

5.

WYZE CAM PAN V3

If you have Wi-Fi in your RV, this 1080p camera with pan, tilt, and zoom functionality will allow you to check in on your rig or your pets while away. It’s rated for indoor or outdoor use and features motion and sound alerts along with great nighttime video.

6. RV DIGEST-IT+

BY

UNIQUE CAMPING & MARINE

In my black tank treatment testing video on YouTube, Unique was one of two brands I recommended, and it now comes in a self-dosing bottle, making it an easy recommendation for RV tank maintenance.

LOCK BOX

While I love keyless door locks like those made by RVLock, they don’t make sense for all situations. A lock box like this one can clamp onto your front door handle and allow you to lock away your key to head out on adventures, giving you a keyless solution at a fraction of the price.

Joshua is an avid adventurer, gear enthusiast, and content creator at RV Gear & Far. Connect with Joshua and find RV tips, gear reviews, and howrvgearandfar.com

11-IN-1 SCREWDRIVER

This time-tested screwdriver/nut driver holds eight popular tips and converts to three nut driver sizes. If you don’t want to keep a ton of different screwdrivers around, this one will be sufficient for most DIY jobs in your RV.

STAINLESS STEEL CLOTHESPINS

These are a splurge, but because they’re made from stainless steel, they won’t rust or stain when left out in the elements and they’re strong enough to keep everything from thick sweaters to those thin Turkish towels from blowing off in the wind.

10. WETCAT TURKISH TOWELS

These Turkish towels are fantastic for RV use as they dry incredibly quickly and fold up small for storage. They come in 24 different color options, so choose whichever one best accents your space!

with an amazing team and expecting the team to perform exactly the same after the lineup changes.

I found RVing late in life, and at first, I thought that I had found it when it wasn’t cool anymore like it was in the ’80s and ’90s. Boy, was I wrong. Even though sales are returning to where they were before the pandemic madness, the industry is selling three times as many compared to the 1980s.

In my publisher letter on page 8, I talk about people wanting experiences rather than stuff—especially the younger generation. But it’s the stuff that takes you to the experiences. And as someone who still travels a lot for work via airplane, rental car, and hotels, I usually wish that I could just be in an RV and have all the comforts of home. I mean, has anyone had a good experience at the airport in the last 30 years?

Don’t get me wrong, I know not every RV trip is perfect. But a bad RV trip sometimes becomes a story you share for a lifetime.

IF YOU HEAD OVER TO YOUTUBE OR ANY SOCIAL SITE, you may encounter experts telling you that the RV industry is hurting.

Yes, shipments are still down after a few crazy years. The industry won the lottery in 2021, and it needs to be grateful for that boost, then get back to reality and stop comparing everything to that year. It’s like winning a Super Bowl

Let’s be grateful for the sales numbers we have and the lives that get changed by being outdoors. At the end of the day, we’re in one of the greatest industries there is, and we should embrace all the good we have and not keep looking back at the championship year.

We are still in the game!
