CASE STUDY InMedRx Helps Correctional Institutions Reduce Pharmacy Spending With Innovative Release and Re-Entry Medication Programs Making healthcare transitions easier and more cost-effective. William P. Kissel, MS, CCHP/MP
Preceptor Recognitions
Providing the tools and knowledge to accurately monitor temperature sensitive medications, ensuring that they have not been exposed to temperature events that could impact their effectiveness in treating patients.
Senior Vice President of Jail Operations ~ Correct Care Solutions (CCS)
PRIMARY INTENDED OUTCOME Incarcerated adults have higher than average rates for many health-related issues including asthma, arthritis, diabetes, mental illness, high cholesterol, HIV, hepatitis C, and hypertension, according to a 2017 report by the Pew Charitable Trusts. Departments of Corrections are legally required to provide medical treatment to people in their custody, including necessary pharmaceuticals. When individuals are released from incarceration, or when they participate in re-entry programs, the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare requires that patients’ health needs be met during their transition back into the community. The InMedRx prescription voucher system provides re-entry participants and newly released individuals with timely and convenient access to the medications they require to manage their health conditions. InMedRx offers a network of more than 70,000 pharmacies with hours and locations that can serve patients anywhere in the nation at any hour of the day.
THE CHALLENGE The transition from jail or prison back into the community can be complicated. For individuals participating in re-entry programs, housing and employment are typically arranged, but the overarching goal of the program is to simulate life back in a community while providing monitoring and support. Compassionate and cost-effective post-release discharge planning for people ending incarceration is an industry-wide challenge, according to William P. Kissel, MS, CCHP/MP, Senior Vice President of Correct Care Solutions (CCS) Jail Operations, headquartered in Nashville. CCS provides medical and behavioral health services for thousands of patients in hospitals as well as local, state, and federal correctional facilities.

Patient-Centered Pharmacy Home™ – Accreditation for Advanced Rx Services by The Compliance Team The Compliance Team’s accreditation track for advanced pharmacy practices acts as an everyday operations-based template to promote continuous medication management improvement of chronically ill Rx patients.

Company Background
Inspired by the teachings of Florence Nightingale, and modernday quality icons W. Edwards Deming and Masaaki Imai, Sandra Canally, founder and CEO, of The Compliance Team™, has developed healthcare’s first suite of simplified operations-based accreditation programs which are grounded on two core beliefs: 1.) Every patient deserves exemplary care. 2.) It should not be difficult or costly for providers to achieve healthcare delivery excellence.
Accreditation Process Overview
The Compliance Team’s Exemplary Provider® program is the only Medicare-authorized accreditation that was purposely designed to streamline daily pharmacy operations so that they become integral parts of a measurable quality improvement process. Participants need not change their business models. First-time applicants enroll for threeyears. It takes on average four-hours/week over a four-month period to implement the program. As an added value, included are expert-led intro webinars; a subscription to Patient Quality Measurement™, our national patient satisfaction reporting and benchmarking database; hundreds of document templates; regular update notices; excellent customer service and much more. The net effect is a dramatically simplified and costeffective accreditation process that leads pharmacies to verifiable and validated measures that justly deserve Exemplary Provider® recognition.
Department of Health & Human Services Authority
The Compliance Team through its Exemplary Provider®-branded programs is authorized by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to accredit Medicare Part A – Rural Health Clinic and Patient Centered Medical Home providers; and Medicare Part B – Durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) provider services.
Patient-Centered Pharmacy Home™
Better patient medication management starts with better coordination between a patient’s pharmacy and prescribing professionals. Program Goals: 1.) Reduce emergency department visits and hospital re-admissions of problematic patients. 2.) Lessen prescribing clinician workloads. 3.) Increase your pharmacy’s prescription business via the development of agreements with prescribers. In short, our advanced practice accreditation track provides the framework by which your community pharmacy can better engage with chronic care patients and their prescribers. It will serve as public notice to patients and payers alike that you are performing at the top of your license.
Telepharmacy Accreditation
The Compliance Team’s latest accreditation process acts as an operationsbased blueprint for setting-up remote prescription dispensing locations using advanced telecommunication technologies and innovative models of care.
Testimonial
“ T hese high standards (The Compliance Team’s) reflect and validate our commitment to continuously strive to improve patient health outcomes in every community that we serve. We are extremely proud of our pharmacists who provide unparalleled care every day, and are very grateful to The Compliance Team, whose innovative and industry leading accreditation strategies have helped us achieve this incredibly important milestone in the growth of our professional pharmacy services.” — David Adsit, RPh, Director of Pharmacy Operations, Kinney Drugs, Gouverneur, NY

Improve Your Productivity, Efficiency, and Bottom Line Using DOSIS by Manchac Technologies Work with Manchac’s team of pharmacy integrators, and start reducing costs in your daily operations in just a few weeks by implementing a DOSIS system customized to solve your unique challenges. President:

Company Background
Based in Louisiana, Manchac Technologies developed the DOSIS suite of products to improve pharmacy efficiency and accuracy. Manchac is a local word meaning “better way,” and we have built our company around the mission of providing better solutions and even better service to pharmacies. We are proud of the difference we have made over the past decade in the hundreds of pharmacies with which we have partnered. We are excited to continue to help pharmacies reduce their costs of production while providing higher quality services to their patients. Since our first robot sold in 2009, our DOSIS L60 robots have become the “go-to solution” for pharmacies wanting to improve singlemedication blister card operations. In the last few years, Manchac has broadened our offerings to include the DOSIS U60 unit-dose robot as well as printing and pre-pack productivity software to extend efficiencies beyond the automated filling and labeling completed within the robots. In 2017, we introduced the revolutionary DOSIS 360 solution for filling and checking multi-dose cards. In the years to come, Manchac will continue to enhance the performance of our proven products while delivering new, innovative pharmacy productivity solutions.
Product Overview
The DOSIS products each focus on three main objectives: one, reducing the opportunities for pharmacy errors by minimizing the human intervention required; two, reducing disorder in the pharmacy by providing automated, predictable, and repeatable processes; and three, lowering operating costs by reducing labor and eliminating non-valueadded activities for the pharmacy staff. All of the DOSIS products are driven by our powerful, highlyconfigurable software interface. Filling and printing activities can be routed, prioritized, and configured based on any data received from the pharmacy management software. For example, fill patterns (calendar, split-cards, etc.) and label templates can be adapted for different customer facilities or prescription types. DOSIS systems integrate seamlessly to help pharmacies complete daily and cycle prescriptions as well as prepack, first dose, and e-kit stock.
Product Descriptions
n DOSIS L60: The LTC industry standard for automated filling, sealing,
and patient-labeling of single-medication blister card prescriptions, each DOSIS L60 robot has a monthly production capacity exceeding 15,000 blister cards. Using one-of-a-kind dispensing technology to eliminate the need for canister exchanges or on-site canister hardware calibration, DOSIS robots allow generic manufacturers to be changed without changing canisters.
n DOSIS C60: Adapted from the L60 design, the DOSIS C60 offers
identical functionality but is physically adapted for 3"x 9" cards commonly used for narcotics or to fit in med carts configured for strip-packaging. Each DOSIS C60 card holds up to 16 doses.
n DOSIS U60: Based on the L60 platform, DOSIS U60 adds the
functionality of full unit-dose labeling within the robot. Each blister of each card can be printed with your requirements of NDC bar code, drug name and strength, lot number, expiration date, etc.
n DOSIS 360: For retail and LTC pharmacies, DOSIS 360 provides an
automated, controlled system for filling multi-med blister cards at a very low cost of entry compared to any robot on the market. Various multimed card formats are supported, and a single technician working with DOSIS 360 can correctly fill, seal, and label multi-med cards for over 250 patients per month. Whether your pharmacy serves twenty-five or a thousand patients in multi-med cards, the DOSIS 360 system will grow with your business. DOSIS 360 is a complete solution that empowers the filling, sealing, labeling, and checking of multi-med cards while fitting into existing countertop work spaces.
n DOSIS mPAQ Printing: There are two primary aspects to DOSIS
mPAQ Printing: directional (or work zone) printing and med-pass printing. Directional printing can route labels throughout the pharmacy based on prescription data, medication location, etc. Med-pass (or time-pass) printing automatically highlights color-coded labels to match med-pass data and times for patients and their facilities.
n DOSIS Pre-Pack Manager: For pharmacies using pre-packs, DOSIS
Pre-Pack Manager significantly minimizes the inventory and reduces the labor required throughout the pre-pack process. Pre-Pack Manager automatically drives consumption and restocking of pre-pack cards via the DOSIS robots.

SmartCardRx™ enables the pharmacist to fill up to four cards per patient, or four patients per tray, using a unique barcode system and patented fill-to-light technology for improved productivity, accuracy, and safety. SmartCardRx works with a wide range of multi-med card formats to simplify medication management for patients with multiple prescriptions. Blister Filling & Adherence Blister Cards have been available to patients for over 40 years. TCGRx has added a wide array of blister cards in unit dose, 7-day, 28-day, 30-day, 31-day, and even control cards. Medication cards are economical and convenient for packaging medications to meet adherence program needs. The TCGRx difference is customization. We provide our customers the tools to customize patient labels to match pharmacy branding initiatives, while keeping costs low. By using print-on-demand products, if any information changes, you are able to respond, change, and print without having a large quantity of unused product on hand. Pouch Packaging Adherence AdherePac™ pouches, produced by the ATP® 2 are ideal for promoting at-home adherence, aged independent living, patients with complex medication regimens, or patients that are on five plus medications per day. AdherePacs can be customized with logos, icons, dosage, strength, and much more. A full medication report can be produced by the ATP 2 to accommodate the patient roll with a complete overview of a patient’s medications for caregivers or physicians. With refills every 28-, 30-, or 31days, this helps to ensure that patients are more likely to adhere to their medications as prescribed, refilling their scripts on-time, every time. Testimonial “ Utilizing the SmartCardRx system and its light-guided technology for filling our multi-med blister cards gives me more confidence each blister tray has been filled correctly, therefore lessening the time I spend through the pharmacist verification process.”

PHARMACY REDESIGN Q&A
& Q A
With Gabe Trahan, Senior Director of Store Operations and Marketing, NCPA
Q. What do you see as the most effective type of remodeling?
It’s not what you think; it’s not adding more fixtures or new flooring, it’s removing fixtures. Stores are designed to hold fixtures; fixtures were designed to hold merchandise. Community pharmacies do have a limit of what categories they can be successful with. Remove some fixtures, create space for your customers, and enhance the customers shopping experience. Be the first to change the old model of store design, make room for your customers, not fixtures.
Q. Customers hate change! Should we risk remodeling and possibly losing customers?
Customers do get a bit angry when you move things around! Yes, some customers hate change but all customers appreciate improvements. When speaking of changes replace the word change with improving. An important note, if customers choose to leave a store because a fixture has been moved or a wall has been painted, then it is time to take a good look at the pharmacy’s team.
Q. Where should I start first, remodel the interior or do something with the exterior?
That is like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg. If you improve the interior without touching the exterior, no potential customers will ever know. Save money and time to do both! Rejuvenating the exterior of the building will attract new customers, and improving the interior will make your existing customers happy and appreciative.
Q. What size fixtures do you recommend for the walls and gondolas?
The better question would be – What is a good width for my aisles? Stores built for fixtures typically have aisles 4 ft. down to 3 ft. wide, aisles need to be 5 ft. wide. My size recommendation for gondolas should be between 54" to 60" 26
W I N T E R 2 0 1 9 I R E TA I L / C O M M U N I T Y • S P E C I A LT Y • LT C
tall and no more than 30" wide. While wall fixtures can be anywhere between 72" to 84" tall, with a base depth of 15" to 18".
Q. What goals should I set for a remodel?
To make your pharmacy look alive and successful! You wouldn’t expect a customer to put their life savings in a bank whose exterior and interior was in need of repair; sign burned out, duct tape of the flooring, and soiled ceiling tiles begging to be replaced. Then, you wouldn’t expect a customer to put their health in a pharmacy that doesn’t look healthy either.
Q. Can you suggest a few affordable remodeling ideas?
• Steam power-wash the sidewalk. • Replace or paint soiled ceiling tiles. • Clean light fixtures. • Replace flickering bulbs. • Update color scheme. • Remove all paper signs from the windows and doors. • Have the floors professionally cleaned. • Clean the kick plates and top caps of all the fixtures. • Add a welcome sign to the building.
Q. How important is the style of fixtures to a remodel project?
I have yet to know of a family that the head of the household said “jump in the car kids; we are going to visit those awesome fixtures at the drug store again!” At times we look at fancy or custom fixtures as an “easy button” for remodeling. Customers come to your store because they like you and the customer service you offer. Just stay away from the sterile look of having a combination of white walls, white ceilings, and white shelving. Replace any rusted, scratched and/or dented shelves, stick to a cleaning schedule, keep the product looking straight and clean and you will be just fine, no need for fancy fixtures. Use the extra money for a better sign by the road.
Entrance from door to the first fixture should be at least 7 ft. - 8 ft. Between the RX counter and nearest fixture, at least 6 ft. However, if you are filling more than 250 perscriptions a day, then I suggest going to 7 ft. - 8 ft.
Q. Is there anything creative I can do with my walls other than painting them?
Q. Any suggestion on how to make the pharmacy standout from the rest of the store?
The least expensive way to highlight your pharmacy is by painting it a complementary color with related hues. Tie together the pharmacy and front-end by using the same color for the trim. My favorite way to bring attention to a pharmacy area is to have a slightly curved valance added to the ceiling face of the pharmacy with the words “Welcome to Our Pharmacy” painted on the front, this gives it a nice added touch.
Adding photos of people of different ethnic and age groups with a pleasant smile is always a nice touch. Examples of photos could include: a parent holding a baby, a family photo of a customer that includes three generations, or a photo of a proud grandparent with their grandchild. Let your customers know that you are a pharmacy that welcomes all age groups. Or follow in Brittany Sanders footsteps, store owner and pharmacist of The Pharmacy at Wellington, and add wonderful photos to the store walls of yourself and staff interacting with customers. Note: I am not recommending you put your family photos on the wall, I am recommending customer and/or customers with staff photos. If photos are not in your plans, adding 6" wide wood strip separating the area between the top of your fixture and the ceiling is another creative idea.

Q. How much space should I leave open from the entrance door to the first fixture? And how much space between RX counter to the nearest fixture?

RDC – Independent Wholesaler Servicing 10 Northeastern States Since 1905, our company has operated as a cooperative and now services 1,400 Northeastern community retail pharmacies, longterm care pharmacies, and home health care stores. CEO:
Joe Brennan Founded: 1905 Employees: 170 Toll-Free Phone: (800) 333-0538 Fax: (800) 571-3784 Address: P.O. Box 24389 Rochester, NY 14624 Website: www.rdcdrug.com
Company Background Founded in 1905, RDC is a true regional wholesale drug cooperative – a marriage of a buying cooperative and a traditional drug distribution company created for the purpose of helping independent pharmacists compete in today’s healthcare environment. Owned completely by independent pharmacists, the company currently ranks as the 6th largest distributor in the U.S. RDC strives to provide the best possible service through userfriendly technology, professional sales representation, and a level of personal attention rarely found in today’s wholesale environment. On a daily basis, the company distributes a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, HBCs, and home health care supplies to community retail pharmacies, long-term care pharmacies, and home health care stores. The current geographical presence encompasses 10 states in the Northeast – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Unlike other wholesale cooperatives, ownership in RDC is not required to open an account. If you are looking for a traditional wholesale partner, open an account and do business just as you would with any other supplier. The management team is confident you’ll see a difference and gain peace of mind about supporting a company that promotes your profession.
Product Overview RDC operates out of a 65,000-square-foot distribution center headquartered in Rochester, New York, and a larger warehouse facility in Fairfield, New Jersey. The Fairfield location is a 106,000-square-foot highly-automated distribution center supported with a-frames, carousels, and other automation. Opening the center in 2015 changed the opportunity and volume that RDC can now handle. Both facilities are VAWD accredited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. The company
is also Track and Trace compliant, providing electronic pedigrees through TraceLink, and preparing to launch full serialization. Orders for pharmaceuticals, health and beauty care products, and home health care supplies are accepted by web, CSOS, EDI, phone, and other methods. Next day delivery is standard to over 1,400 community retail pharmacies, longterm care pharmacies, and home health care stores in the Northeast. Most customers have just-in-time supply chains and order every day. The company also supports customers with a portfolio of programs for new store startups, front store pricing and promotion, Quality Choice store brands, and a specialty hub powered by CoPilot.
Features
As of August 2017, RDC has launched “RDConnect”, a specialty pharmacy program support hub designed for independent pharmacies. The hub is powered by CoPilot, a technology partner that provides dedicated staff and resources, data analytics, and a clinical call center with no competitive affiliation or ownership of a pharmacy. RDC members can check patient prescription statuses on a modern web portal with bi-directional data transfer and real-time verification of insurance benefits and co-pays. The services provide expanded payer network participation and greater accessibility to limited distribution drugs, along with non-specialty drug services at no charge. This is a great way to provide specialty pharmacy services to customers without major investment in infrastructure and staffing.
Contact Information If your pharmacy is located in the Northeast give RDC a call, or visit www.rdcdrug.com to open an account.

Company Background Associates of Cape Cod, Inc. (ACC), is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of products developed to detect and quantify gram-negative bacterial endotoxins and (1g3)-ß-D-glucans. Our products are used worldwide by leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies to ensure the safety of their parenteral drugs, biological products, and medical devices. Our goal is to provide the best products and services, as well as, the best technical support and customer service, in our industry, to enhance the productivity and efficiency of all our customers. We are ISO 13485: 2003 certified, our laboratories are FDA inspected, and DEA licensed, and our Beacon Diagnostics® laboratory is CLIA certified. Product Overview Associates of Cape Cod, Inc. (ACC), is pleased to offer Pyrosate®, an FDA licensed version of our rapid endotoxin detection kit. Pyrosate is well-suited for performing endotoxin assays in full compliance with the Bacterial Endotoxins Test, USP chapter <85>. Pyrosate has been developed as an easy-to-use Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) gel-clot test that enables rapid testing and does not require special laboratory supplies. The easy-tofollow, step-by-step illustrated instructions allow the user to set up assays within minutes. In addition to FDA licensure, the Pyrosate® Kit is now available in sensitivities of 0.03 EU/mL, 0.125 EU/mL, and 0.25 EU/ mL, in both 10-pack and 30-pack formats. With the introduction of this licensed version, in addition to research and water testing, Pyrosate is ideal for dialysis centers, compounding pharmacies, and pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
Performing the Test
The Pyrosate® kit is a rapid gel-clot test that contains a 2λ* endotoxin tube (PPC) matched to the sample (SPL) tube for each sensitivity. This feature is unique to the Pyrosate assay. The endotoxin tube (PPC) assures that the sample does not interfere with the test, ruling out false negatives. Pyrosate is formulated to eliminate false positives due to (1g3)-ß-D-glucans. This endotoxin specific reagent does not require additional blocking buffers.
Reconstitution Pyrosate® is reconstituted directly with the sample by adding 0.5 mL to the sample tube (SPL). After approximately 60 seconds of gentle mixing, 0.25 mL is transferred to the endotoxin tube (PPC). The lot-specific incubation time at 37±1°C is given on the Certificate of Compliance. Stability Pyrosate® is stable at room temperature and does not require refrigeration for shipping or storage. Product Applications • Hemodialysis • Water and Water Systems • Filter Industry • Research • Final Product Release Product Benefits • Shorter Assay Time • Endotoxin Specific • No Dilutions Required • No Refrigeration Required • Matched Positive Product Control * λ (lambda) is the lowest concentration of endotoxin to cause a positive test result under standard conditions.

Thank You Preceptors! Manchester University would like to congratulate Renee McCafferty, 2018 Preceptor of the Year! Excerpts from Renee’s student nomination include:
“I was a new and eager yet nervous APPE student that lacked the confidence in my abilities to interview patients, intervene and recommend therapies. Dr. McCafferty assured me on the first day of the rotation that I may observe her interactions with patients, review relevant content, and participate when I felt ready. After observing her confidence, clarity and compassion with patients for just one day, I immediately wanted to practice, and practice the way she did. She allowed me to see multiple patients each day, all who presented with diverse health conditions. Her instinct was to always hear my interventions and recommendations first, and would follow it up with her own reasoning and advice. She encouraged and empowered me to use knowledge and skills I gained in the classroom and gave me a comfortable platform to apply it. Regardless of how busy Dr. McCafferty’s day was, she never hesitated to stop what she was doing to answer any of my curiosities. This often led to impromptu topic discussions that made me develop excitement about lifelong learning by challenging me with things beyond what was covered in the classroom.” The following colleges and organizations would like to acknowledge and thank the following preceptors for their hard work and dedication.

Dr. Nguyen became a preceptor to pay it forward. When she was in pharmacy school, she had preceptors who demonstrated what being a great pharmacist meant. These experiences have influenced her in her career and I can truly say that she embodies the kind of pharmacist that I hope to one day become. She was understanding in making sure that I learned at a comfortable pace, but she also had great expectations of me. Prior to my rotation, I had a firm set of beliefs of what community pharmacy was, but I honestly have to say that my perception has completely changed because I had such a great experience at my rotation site. This experience showed me the possibilities of a nurturing work environment that enables a pharmacist to perform at a peak level.”

CASE STUDY InMedRx Helps Correctional Institutions Reduce Pharmacy Spending With Innovative Release and Re-Entry Medication Programs Making healthcare transitions easier and more cost-effective. William P. Kissel, MS, CCHP/MP Senior Vice President of Jail Operations ~ Correct Care Solutions (CCS)

CASE STUDY
“
Compassionate and cost-effective post-release discharge planning for
Learning to manage health conditions upon release includes finding a doctor and having prescriptions filled. InMedRx supports re-entry programs by providing a pharmacy voucher system and a comprehensive pharmacy network for participating patients to use. “Ideally, we want to make sure that we have a system in place where patients who are discharging from our facilities have timely access to their medications when they get out,” Kissel said. The average length of stay in a jail is around 20 days; individuals may be released at any hour and often without much advance notice. This lack of scheduling makes it difficult for the institutional healthcare provider to be prepared for a patient’s departure, including release medications.
incarceration is
When people are released, simply having a prescription or medication bottle in hand may not be enough to guarantee that patients will adhere to a treatment plan. CCS pays for release drugs as part of their agreement with the facilities they serve, and noncompliance is costly. Compliance is crucial, not only to save healthcare dollars and ensure patients maintain their health status post-release, but also to prevent abandoned prescription drugs from becoming hazardous.
an industry-wide
“I have seen drugs discarded on the ground outside of jails,” Kissel said. “These medications can be a real safety issue – who knows who might find them?”
challenge.”
THE DECISION
people ending
William P. Kissel, MS, CCHP/MP Senior Vice President of Jail Operations ~ Correct Care Solutions (CCS)
Chronic conditions that are identified and managed successfully in jail should, ideally, be maintained upon release whether under Medicaid or another community provider. “We diagnose a lot of chronic disease when patients come to us,” Kissel said. “Our goal is to identify pathologies early and improve the patient’s health status, which saves money in the long term. Correctional healthcare is a model of how a proactive and preventive system should work.” CCS had already contracted with InMedRx to help patients maintain their health when Kissel joined the company five years ago. They are now working to implement the release medication voucher system across the facilities they serve. “Our pharmacy director had previous experience with InMedRx,” he said. “We have had nothing but positive results from them, and I don’t need to shop for another company.”
THE RESULTS According to Kissel, a perfect jail release medication system would look like this: “An individual gets ready for release, discharge planners have an appointment set up for them with a community provider, and a prescription is in place through InMedRx, which bridges the patient between discharge and that first medical appointment.”

CASE STUDY InMedRx Reduces Pharmacy Spending and Medication Waste
UP TO 30%
Reductions in Costs
ENHANCED
Patient Compliance
IMPROVED
Staff Productivity
Unfortunately, the time between discharge and seeing a community provider can be lengthy, particularly for behavioral health issues. Within an imperfect system, however, InMedRx offers advantages. Most release prescriptions cover seven to 10 days of medication. In some cases, certain medications provided via InMedRx may be covered for 30 days with one or two refills. Because all major chains and most independent pharmacies participate in the InMedRx program, it is easy for patients to locate a pharmacy wherever they are upon release. “With InMedRx, we can make sure pharmacy options are on common bus lines,” Kissel said. “And there are 24-hour pharmacies on the list as well, which is important, because people are released [from jail] at all times of day. Patients choose the one best for them.” Data from CCS facilities using InMedRx show prescription pick-up rates ranging from 15% to 50%. While CCS and InMedRx would like to see higher rates of compliance, a benefit of the system is that CCS is no longer paying for prescriptions that were previously abandoned. According to InMedRx, they have been able to help correctional clients decrease the cost of release medication programs by as much as 30 percent, while also facilitating a smoother return to the community for patients.
THE CONCLUSION A seamless healthcare transition with good continuity of care can save taxpayer dollars, improve quality of life, and may even reduce recidivism. “If an individual is hooked up to a primary care provider or pharmacist, we can manage chronic illness and reduce hospitalizations resulting from emergencies,” Kissel said. “It’s a good investment.” A patient who willingly visits a pharmacy post-release to fill a prescription is much more likely to take that drug as prescribed. This approach prevents wasted medications and keeps prescription drugs out of the wrong hands. “It also connects that newly released person with a pharmacist in their community,” Kissel said, providing an important opportunity for them to develop a healthcare relationship they may never have had previously. Correctional healthcare providers are working every day to improve continuity of care for patients before and after release. InMedRx offers a step in the right direction by connecting patients in a timely and accessible way with the medications they need once they have transitioned out of jail. “They provide a very bright solution to address an industry problem,” Kissel said. “Using InMedRx makes better business sense, but it also makes better patient sense.”

Color Coded Sun and Reading Glasses Program by Franklin Eyewear®
Reading glasses price tags are color coded by strength and sunglasses price tags by category. This makes it easy to keep your displays organized and makes re-ordering simple!
President & CEO: Al Underwood Founded: 1975 Toll-Free Phone:

Company Background Franklin Eyewear evolved as Al Underwood drove from drugstore to drugstore in his home state of Mississippi in the early 1980s. Al had developed a sunglass program that he started selling to convenience stores in 1975, and after adding independent pharmacies along the way soon realized the need for a reading glasses program. Al added reading glasses in 1985, naming his line after Ben Franklin, who invented bifocals. After the advent of the baby boomers into reading glasses consumers, it was no longer just about function as fashion became a driving force for the forever young crowd buying them.
Product Overview Franklin Eyewear displays are merchandised by strength, so the consumer can turn to the panel with their strength, and see a selection of frame styles and colors. Each panel has a color coded label designating the strength. The glasses price tags are color coded to match! The $6.99 retail price opens the door to multiple sales as people have a hard time picking just one, and they want to keep them in many places for easy access.
Testimonials “ Our customers resoundingly say ‘Great price, great style, and great products!’ We have fortunately noticed repeat business from these customers who are referring others to our pharmacy for your product. CVS is right across the street from our location and charges over $20 for glasses that are inferior and unattractive. We are now proud and happy to carry Franklin Eyewear in our community pharmacy.”
— Francis DiMarco Pharm.D., Wilmont Pharmacy & Surgicals, Scarsdale, NY
“ Franklin Eyewear has been a great addition to our front store. Customers love the quality and price of the eyeglasses and Al is extremely knowledgeable and will get you everything you need to start selling glasses. From counter displays to full floor models they have everything you need. It’s always nice to walk by Franklin Eyewear at a trade show or conference because Al always remembers his customers and makes a point to say hello. We highly recommend Franklin Eyewear, I wish all our vendors were this great!”
— Alex Doyle, Conley’s Drug Store, Ipswich, MA
“ I was convinced no one would buy readers or sunglasses from an independent pharmacy when so many other places carry them. Boy was I wrong. I first carried Franklin Readers and they flew off the rack. I have people that come just for the trendy, good quality, reading glasses we sell. So I decided to try carrying the sunglasses as well. These have also been a great seller and a convenience for people.”
— Jennifer Palazzolo, Flatiron Pharmacy, Longmont, CO
Ordering Information Order online at www.franklineyewear.com or call (877) 766-0321.
In addition to reading glasses, Franklin Eyewear offers a corresponding sunglasses program, color coded by category – sports, trendy, and fashion all at $6.99 retail. Also included in the sunglasses program for $9.99 are polarized sunglasses and sun-bifocals. Sunglasses with bifocals make it easy to read your smartphone in the sunlight. Franklin Eyewear’s easy-to-maintain color coded program with quality and style at reasonable retails and 50% margin make you competitive in today’s market, and keep your customers coming back for more.
