Product Overview The Fridge-tag® product was developed to meet the high expectations of the World Health Organization (WHO) for monitoring vaccines stored in refrigerators around the world. The Fridge-tag® is designed to help the pharmacy properly monitor temperatures in the refrigerator. As pharmacists become more involved with immunizing patients, monitoring refrigerator temperatures is critical to insure their efficacy. Increasingly, pharmacies are also holding high value biological products for patients undergoing cancer treatments or with acute/chronic health issues. The Fridge-tag® simplifies the task of monitoring refrigerator temperatures and frees up the pharmacist/ technician for more productive work. It has preset upper and lower temperature limits drawn from the vaccine guidelines published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). At a glance you can see if temperatures were in or out of tolerance for the past 30 days. High and low temperatures are stored for each of the past 30 days and are easily extracted from the device. This is especially helpful when technicians fill out monthly temperature logs. Also, if temperatures are too high or low, the Fridge-tag® will tell you how high/low and how long temperatures were SPRING 2012

It also sends automatic e-mail alerts to the administrators in case of user caused miscounts or failed verifications. In addition, the server hosts the entire National Drug Directory; it allows administrators to manage user permissions; it provides all essential networking configuration parameters; and much more. A count of 100 pills can be performed in less than 20 seconds. Pills are dispensed directly into the vial, thereby eliminating cross-contamination. Pill counting stations do not require cleaning, calibration, or any disassembly.

Testimonials

“ T hese scales are one of the best pieces of equipment we have had in our pharmacy. They improve our accuracy in count and drug selection. Because they provide this, we are able to train new techs more quickly. We are also less mentally tired from not counting pills all day, which also helps with accuracy. I believe these scales are well worth the price.”

–– Rick C. R.Ph. Cadiz, Kentucky

“ T he Torbal DRX-4C Scale was very user friendly. As a matter of fact, we purchased a second one within a few months of the first purchase. Company Background

Manchac Technologies, L.L.C. opened its doors in 2006 to take advantage of opportunities in the pharmacy automation market through the development and applications of new technology. Manchac has developed a revolutionary, machine vision counting technology and has built a ground-breaking pharmacy automation system, DOSIS®, around this unique counting technology. DOSIS (DOH-sis), based on a Greek word meaning to dispense medication, provides a filled, sealed and labeled blister card through a unit that has a pharmacyfriendly footprint. Led by Randall Murphy and Monroe Milton, Manchac was founded by veteran pharmacy automation engineers. Our assembled team has significant experience in the design, development, manufacture, service and support of pharmacy automation products. With well over 100 years of collective industry experience, Manchac will continue to leverage the team’s talents and skills to dominate an ever-growing pharmacy market serving long-term-care and assisted living facilities; and, later expand into other automation markets.

Product Overview

DOSIS® L60 is a robotic solution for completely automating prescription filling, sealing, and patient labeling of 30 or 31-Day single medication blister cards (a.k.a. bingo-cards) in a physically compact enclosure. This solution offers unbounded value to pharmacies in need of higher prescription throughput without extra staffing. DOSIS is the most cost effective automated prescription packaging of blister cards in the market. Blister cards, which typically hold a single medication 30-day supply, are preferred for use in Long Term Care facilities due to their ease of handling, inspecting, and administering to patients. DOSIS has the capacity to run continuously for up to four hours unattended before restocking empty blisters. To minimize impact to pharmacy floor plans, the unit is a similar in size and shape to a vending machine or shallow refrigerator (26" L x 42" W x 78" H), requiring a foot-print of less than 7 sq. ft. of floor space. Each unit contains 60 medication containers each with a capacity of 1000cc. DOSIS is typically installed and operational in a single day. Flexibility: DOSIS improves your pharmacy’s flexibility to meet the needs of your customers. You can set dispensing parameters based on payer type, facility or prescription. Being able to use the same automation for a variety of customers, you can now grow your business without the fear of outgrowing your automation.

DOSIS can be instrumental in aiding your pharmacy in achieving all of the following: increased production of blister cards; stabilizing your labor demand and eliminating overtime; and, extending your typical hours of production. Whatever your need is, DOSIS fits into your pharmacy workflow unlike any other automation. Calendar Filling: DOSIS gives you the ability to dispense blister cards based on a prescription’s start date. DOSIS reads the start date entered into the Pharmacy Management Information System (PMIS) and dispenses the medication into the blisters so that the pre-printed numbers on the card match the dates for the prescription. This calendar filling feature is available on both card types; cycle-fill style of cards (1 to 31, starting at 1) or non-cycle fill cards (1 to 31, starting at 31). Ease of Use: The DOSIS L60 is unlike most automation products when it comes to ease of use. We start off by NOT installing any software onto your computers. The L60 is 100% browser based for all reporting, replenishment and monitoring activities. This allows you to monitor the operating status from any terminal on your network. On the L60 itself, there is a touch screen for all user interactions at the system. The Difference: Until now, the concept of “on-demand” filling from your pharmacy management software for 30/31 day blister cards was too expensive and too large. Traditionally the pre-packing machinery that has been available requires direct labor to achieve high throughput of blister cards. While pre-packing certain oralsolid medication may still be a wise choice to provide optimum overall pharmacy throughput performance, not all pharmacies can afford the capital outlay of dedicating pharmacy technicians to expensive pre-packing machinery. However, pre-packing to meet your oral-solid dispensing needs in a 30/31-day single medication blister cards just got simpler with DOSIS. DOSIS accepts prescriptions from your data entry technician directly through your pharmacy management information system (PMIS). It is as simple as marking drugs in your PMIS and then adding these selected drugs into the DOSIS cabinet. From that point forward, DOSIS will dispense these medications on-demand. Specifically, DOSIS fills, seals, and patient labels the prescriptions for drugs that are contained in DOSIS without any technician assistance! DOSIS works with any pharmacy management information system that has the ability to send requests to DOSIS.

Testimonials

“ DOSIS has allowed us to fill the same volume of bingo cards with fewer hours worked and decreased overtime. We are hitting performance and service targets with DOSIS and being more consistent. We believe it is technology with longevity.”

Lipoderm® Transdermal Bases by PCCA Maximize your competitive advantage with your practitioners and patients with the only proven transdermal method of delivering up to four medications, simultaneously. CEO:

David Sparks Founded: 1981 Employees: 250+ Toll Free Phone: (800) 331-2498 Phone: (281) 933-6948 Fax: (281) 933-6948 Address: 9901 South Wilcrest Drive Houston, TX 77099 Website: www.pccarx.com Email: healthcare@swisslog.com

Company Background Three decades ago, a physician encountered a patient who required an anti-nausea medication that was no longer commercially available. The physician challenged a Houstonarea pharmacist to compound the medication. The prescription was a success, and the pharmacist saw that others in his field faced similar demands to help patients who required compounded medications. This network of pharmacists, united by a commitment to meet patient needs, was the foundation of PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America). Today, PCCA has become the independent compounding pharmacist’s complete resource for fine chemicals, equipment, devices, flavors, ACPE-accredited training and education, pharmacy software, marketing, business and pharmacy consulting assistance. Our membership includes more than 3,900 independent community pharmacists in the United States, Canada, Australia, and other countries around the world.

Product Overview

LIPODERM® TRANSDERMAL BASES Available exclusively from PCCA, the Lipoderm family of transdermal bases was independently tested, using the Franz Skin Finite Dose Model, and proven to deliver up to four drugs simultaneously through human skin in vitro. Also tested for allergic reactions – no adverse reactions were reported in an extensive two-month study. The Lipoderm family includes:

transdermal needs because it is a stable system that does not separate upon refrigeration and has great resiliency in the presence of ionic substances. • L ipoderm ActiveMax™ has the benefits of original Lipoderm with an added stabilizing system to provide resiliency in the presence of high salt loads. How do you know when/if you need Lipoderm ActiveMax? If you are using over 20% actives in a formula and experiencing separation or liquification. For example, 30% Ketamine HCl in Lipoderm ActiveMax demonstrated superior physicochemical attributes, remaining stable and elegant for six months. •A nhydrous Lipoderm utilizes similar technology to the wellstudied and popular base, Lipoderm, and is an anhydrous version for actives that are unstable in water. It is also free of gluten, casein, egg, wheat-germ, paraben, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and soy. This base utilizes rapeseed-based phospholipids, and may provide a better alternative for autistic patients than traditional Lipoderm. It also has a neutral odor and silky feel. • Lipoderm High Molecular Weight™, the latest in transdermal technology, is focused on the delivery of large molecular weight proteins. Lipoderm HMW does not contain lecithin, phospholipids or eggs, and could be an appropriate choice for autistic patients. This base has a low resiliency for salt forms of drugs, which cause the base to break. Interested in becoming a PCCA member and using Lipoderm in your practice? See why over 3,900 members are trusting PCCA to deliver higher quality chemicals, education and consulting.

Testimonials Check out www.pccarx.com/testimonials.

• Lipoderm is an elegant alternative to traditional PLO gels and contains a proprietary liposomal component that may increase the permeation of a variety of actives. Its touch and feel is smooth and creamy, unlike the tacky feel of PLOs. Many members have made the switch to Lipoderm for their SPRING 2012

The Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year Award at MCPHS is presented to six preceptors from all campuses that have made an outstanding contribution to pharmacy experiential learning. One preceptor is selected from each campus in each of the following three categories: Community Pharmacy Practice, Institutional Practice, and a Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Faculty Member. Each recipient is honored annually at an Awards Ceremony in May, and is acknowledged with a plaque. Throughout the current academic year, students on rotation are expected to complete a site/preceptor evaluation at the conclusion of each rotation and have the opportunity at that time to nominate their preceptor for the award. The votes are then tabulated by the Office of Experiential Education. Students evaluate the preceptor on the following criteria: Preceptor encourages questions and comments; Preceptor is genuinely interested in each student’s progress; Preceptor challenges each student’s academic and experiential skills; Preceptor is a good role model; Preceptor provides periodic feedback throughout the rotation; Preceptor provides a positive learning environment.

The Founding Dean of the Roosevelt University College of Pharmacy (RUCOP), Dr. George MacKinnon, the Associate Dean for Experiential Education, Dr. Abby Kahaleh, and the entire RUCOP Faculty and Staff would like to thank Dominic Woo, Pharmacy Director, and Christine Budzinsky, RN, the Vice President for Patient Care Services, at St. Alexius Medical Center for their commitment, dedication, and support of our new College of Pharmacy.

Product Overview The Eyecon is a prescription filling station that makes each pharmacy more efficient and helps reduce counting errors, plus it improves patient safety and the pharmacy’s confidence by validating that the proper NDC is dispensed. Using a camera, it counts the black/white image of the medication 5 times per second in a static mode, which improves accuracy vs. using a sensor that counts in motion. The improved accuracy when compared to hand counts will deliver a fast ROI. Scanning the patient label and NDC from the stock bottle validates that the proper medication is being dispensed. Besides providing peace of mind, the validation mode also captures a photo of the pills that is saved by the prescription number. The Eyecon is ideal for all hand counted scripts, but can also be used to double or triple count controlled substances, making it a perfect complement to robotic dispensers by simply adding an NDC bar code to the robotic vial label.

— Terry Forshee, Cherokee Pharmacy

“ We took the Eyecon out of the box and in five minutes we were up a running!”

— Neil Leikach, Catonsville Pharmacy

“ T he Eyecon pill counter has taken on an importance equivalent to my robot with accurate counting. With bar code scanning, you know you are counting the correct medication, and it is uncannily accurate almost immediately.” — Mac Wilhoit, Mac’s Pharmacy

“ T he Eyecon has enabled our pharmacies to decrease wait times while increasing accuracy. There isn’t another piece of technology that has made a bigger difference in our pharmacy workflow in the last 10 years!”

“ We have stocked the Superior Source product line in our store for the better part of three years… Besides having great products, we have had nothing but positive experiences with the customer service. Our best selling product has been the sublingual Vitamin D3. We have multiple physicians who tried the product themselves, saw the results in their labwork and have since started sending all their patients to our pharmacy specifically for our ‘special Vitamin D.’ We hear comments and feedback constantly from patients, nurses and practitioners telling us how much better they feel since they started taking the sublingual Vitamin D. We have also had great success with the Superior Source sublingual Melatonin and Vitamin B products. We just recently added the hair, skin and nails vitamins as well as some of the general multi-vitamins. To anyone who is thinking about taking a Superior Source product or a pharmacy who is thinking about stocking a Superior Source product, we give our whole-hearted endorsement.”

Accu-flo by Creative Strategies

Accu-flo is a medication administration system that safely and efficiently automates the process of distributing, tracking, re-ordering medications and treatments for pharmacies, assisted living, long-term care, rehab, and correctional facilities. CEO:

John Carroll Year Founded: 1991 Employee Count: 25 Phone: (888) 339-7050 Address: 5650 Bardstown Road Louisville, KY 40291 Website: www.creativestrategiesus.com

Company Background

Creative Strategies uses the latest technology to design, develop, and implement technology solutions for clients in the healthcare, government, banking, and transaction-processing industries. Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky as a subsidiary of Carroll-Kron Consulting, Inc., our staff consist of experienced consultants dedicated to solving customers’ business challenges with technology-based solutions. President John Carroll is a nationally-recognized management and technology consultant with more than 25 years experience designing, developing, and managing government systems and private sector projects.

Product Overview

Accu-flo allows your staff to focus on quality resident care by reducing errors through automated record keeping, low inventory alerts and programmable dosage information. The software automates the process of distributing, tracking and re-ordering medications and treatments safely and efficiently for residential care facilities and pharmacies. Accu-flo produces savings of between one and three thousand dollars per month by reducing staff labor hours associated with the daily medication pass and the month end chart checking procedures. Most importantly, staff members concentrate on resident care and safety, while Accu-flo eliminates paper-based record keeping and enhances the security of medication inventories and staff identification procedures. In residential care facilities, Accu-flo dramatically reduces time spent on medication distribution and the chance of medication-related errors. The system also automates record keeping and notifies nurses when it is time to re-order certain drugs, which streamlines the communication process with pharmacies. Bar code technology verifies current quantities and dosages of every medication. Also, a resident’s photo is associated with each medication pass pertaining to their doctor’s orders, which helps support consistency and accuracy in medication distribution. Accu-flo also tracks remaining medication quantities and can automatically place refills with the pharmacy when necessary. This automated procedure is a time-saving tool for both facilities and pharmacies. This system supports a paperless environment and no longer requires facilities to manually fax re-orders to the institutional pharmacy.

Because all medication and treatment information is stored in a central database, Accu-flo will instantly generate routine information including Physician Order and Medical Administration Reports (MAR). This reporting system replaces manual data entry. The reporting mechanism also offers improved efficiency related to controlling expenses associated with ordering and refilling medications from pharmacies. Accu-flo features touch-screen technology and bar code capability with the system. Residential care environments demand sharp attention to resident safety, security, and privacy. Accu-flo supports this with the use of fingerprint-based biometric technology. This is built into the touchscreen platform and eliminates the need for staff identification cards while allowing secure access of resident or other data. Accu-flo is user-friendly, affordable and customized to the needs of every new client. Unparalleled full staff training is provided. Accu-flo provides its customers twenty-four hour support seven days a week three hundred and sixty five days a year.

Features The complete Accu-flo system handles the accurate collection, editing, transportation, organization and storage of long-term care medication events. The Accu-flo system provides automation and safeguards to the medication pass through the following components: • eMAR – Ensures intended residents receive correct medications and dosages within CMS guidelines • eLog – Maintains accurate inventory of all drugs received, storage in medication cart, as well as those returned after being discontinued • eControl – Safeguards inventory of controlled drugs by shift and nurse • C.P.O.E – Computerized Prescription Order Entry provides exceptional convenience with direct ordering capability with institutional pharmacies
