We introduced the RxSafe 1800 into one of our pharmacies two years ago. That store had a $50,000 decrease, which totals $80,000 in savings and our inventory turns have increased by 6+ turns / year. Additionally, we’ve reduced labor costs by 200–250 labor hours per month, which covered the payment on the unit. In three years that labor savings will go directly to our bottom line. The cost of on-hand inventory in our other stores, without the RxSafe, has increased by $30,000.

CASE STUDY

Independent Pharmacy Increases Monthly Supplement Sales 233% in Four Months Using RMS’ Point-of-Sale Integration

In an industry where every business appears to sell the exact same products to the exact same people, how does a pharmacy differentiate itself from the competition, without lowering prices? And, with shrinking margins and expanding insurance regulations, how can an independent pharmacy make money while still offering a trusted, high-touch healthcare experience?

John Hoeschen, R.Ph, Owner of St. Paul Corner Drug in St. Paul, Minnesota, and his team believe all it takes is spending two extra minutes with the patients. Two minutes that will transform your patient’s health, your bottom line, and quickly brand your pharmacy as the number one health resource in the community. “The biggest issue most pharmacy owners have is that they cannot get over the mindset where they believe their customers won’t pay for higher-quality, more expensive products. If you would have asked me twenty years ago if I could sell a $50 to $80 OTC product, I’d have said you’re crazy. Now, we sell it all day long by simply taking two minutes at the register to explain basic drug-nutrient depletion. We’re no longer in the same business as most retail stores, trying to sell 90-day supplies for $12.”

Increasing Pharmacy Sales without Increasing Prescriptions Instead of focusing where the pharmacy is losing money, shifting your mindset to finding new non-prescription opportunities can reap significant results. In April 2016 when John expanded his Ortho Molecular Products supplement line, his team was filling 250 prescriptions per day and averaging $3,000 per month in supplement sales. After installing the FREE Ortho Molecular Digital Replete interface with his Retail Management Solutions (RMS) Point-of-Sale system in July, the products flew off the shelves, and his team began to see

Contents CASE STUDY Bank Makes Dreams of Pharmacy Ownership Affordable, Realistic, and Easily Attainable Pharmacist Sees Profit 10 Months after Purchasing Independent Pharmacy

Karen Downing PharmD, RPh

Owner of Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, NC

Like many pharmacists, Karen Downing, PharmD, RPh always dreamed of owning her own pharmacy, but she never thought she would be able to afford it. She first had her doubts 25 years ago, when the pharmacy climate was much less tense and profit margins were much higher. Today, as the profession continues battling marginalized profits — which often result in independent pharmacy closures — many ambitious pharmacists like Downing see their dreams of pharmacy ownership vanishing as quickly as their disposable net revenue.

CUSTOMER • Karen Downing, PharmD, RPh

Purchasing either an existing or new pharmacy averages a price tag of approximately $500,000 to $1.5 million. Painfully aware of the cost, Downing could not fathom making a down payment on such a loan. Her frustrations with the industry further compounded her despondence and desire to turn the tide.

Ideal Protein: Impacting Community Health and Your Pharmacy’s Bottom Line

Expand Consultation Drive Value Improve Outcomes

Ideal Protein drives outcomes in your community with a proven weight management program comprised of a structured protocol, partial meal replacement products, one-on-one coaching, and proprietary turnkey support tools to achieve sustained outcomes.

“I think owning my own pharmacy was always in the back of my mind, but I was always scared to the pull the trigger. I was like everybody else where I needed the cash to do it,” she said.

CHALLENGE • Financing purchase of independent pharmacy SOLUTION • Live Oak Bank servicing loan for 100% ownership

Downing had worked in a variety of pharmacy practice settings during her career: As a pharmacy student, she completed four externships with the Indian Health Services in Alaska. Post-licensure, she worked as a hospital pharmacist and later served as the director of pharmacy for a small hospital. She then spent the last half of her career working for a big box pharmacy.

RESULTS • Fast loan application turnaround time

“I had gotten to the point where, at the end of that 12 years, I was considering leaving pharmacy altogether. I was done. I’d lost my soul,” she said. “I was struggling because I couldn’t practice pharmacy the way I felt pharmacy needed to be practiced. It wasn’t about community anymore.”

• Accelerated break-even rate (less than one year versus industry average of 3-5 years)

But a fateful encounter with an independent pharmacy owner seeking to retire changed Downing’s fate. Soon, Downing found herself working at Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, North Carolina.

• Minimal capital investment ($25,000) • Continuous support services throughout life of loan

Rx30/Computer-Rx: Independent Pharmacy’s Preferred Choice

C A S E S T U DY

Harbor Pharmacy succeeds in the LTC arena. When Wayne Drug — a retail pharmacy based in Syracuse, NY — decided to expand into the long-term care (LTC) arena, technology was an important issue. At first, the new company — Harbor Pharmacy — tried a wholesaler’s product provided to them free of charge.

Whether you are a small, independent start-up filling 30 prescriptions a day or a 100+ independent chain operation filling 1,500 prescriptions a day — Rx30 is your perfect solution.

However, Harbor Pharmacy’s owner James Branshaw quickly saw the software was inadequate and turned to QS/1®’s PrimeCare® Pharmacy Management System for LTC pharmacies. Branshaw’s father, who owns and operates Wayne Drug, had used QS/1’s retail software and services for years. “So we brought QS/1 in and started operations in 2004,” Branshaw said.

The company started with one facility — a 159-bed assisted-living facility — and today services 25 facilities with close to 3,000 beds. QS/1 — The Ultimate Marketing Tool In addition to using QS/1’s PrimeCare, Harbor Pharmacy also uses a number of QS/1 products to manage its operations, including WebConnect®, a web-based tool that provides facility customers secure and easy access to patient medication information.

North Carolina Pharmacy Uses Automation to Scale Highly Successful Care Transition Solution Steve Adkins Pharm.D., RPh

Owner of Health Park Pharmacy in Raleigh, NC NCPA Steering Committee for Technology in 2017 2013 NCPA Outstanding Adherence Practitioner Award

CUSTOMER • Steve Adkins, Pharm.D., RPh LOCATION • Health Park Pharmacy PHARMACY TYPE • Community Pharmacy Located Inside of Integrated Healthcare Facility SOLUTION • TCGRx’s ATP2 and InspectRx RESULTS • 250% Increase in Patients Served • $90,000 Labor Savings • 50% Decrease in Supply Costs

Intro/Background Health Park Pharmacy in Raleigh, North Carolina, started working with some of the State’s most complex “medical at-home” patients in early 2007. In an effort to support this growing population of patients, Heath Park started adding a number of supportive services including: medication synchronization, monthly phone calls from a “health coach,” compliance packaging, and care coordination for post-acute care patients in transition from hospitals and rehab facilities. In just a few short months, the care coordination and transition program had amazing success and boasted a mere 3% — 30 day readmission rate, compared to the national average of >25%. Adherence packaging was a cornerstone of this program and to date, the pharmacy had been facilitating adherence packaging by hand; however, due to the success of the program, they were having a hard time keeping up with the growing demand.

The Challenge/Story Patients on complex medication regimens frequently cycled in and out of hospitals, adult care homes, and rehab facilities due to the lack of a standardized care transition solution. In early 2015, Steve Adkins, Owner of Health Park Pharmacy, and his team decided to create a system, they refer to as Project Harmony. The program was designed to eliminate confusion about a patient’s appropriate medication regimen, eliminate medication errors, overuse of narcotics and suboptimal use of medications, implement a standardized means of communicating medication reconciliation documentation to key community players, provide thorough follow through on referrals and develop significant and meaningful collaboration between institutional and community healthcare providers. “Before Project Harmony, we had no idea that some of our patients were ever in the hospital or rehab facility. Those patients would go back to taking the regimen they were on, prior to the admission. That inevitably lead to a readmission,” said Steve Adkins. After a few short months, Project Harmony had grown to a patient census of greater than 350, and gained interest from Well Care Home Health, one of the largest home healthcare agencies in North Carolina.

RxSafe 1800™ Robotic Pharmacy Workflow Automation and RxASP 20™ Retail Adherence Packaging by RxSafe With the RxSafe 1800 pharmacies can improve accuracy and speed; free up floor space; eliminate waste, theft, and diversion; and improve inventory management. The RxASP 20 takes retail adherence packaging to a whole new level — no more trays. President & CEO: William K. Holmes Founded: 2008

Company Background

RxSafe began operations in 2008. Many of the principal employees have been innovating together since the early 90’s at such companies as Pyxis, Omnicell, and DDN where they have extensively contributed to the advancement of automation in the pharmacy industry. RxSafe’s founder and CEO, William Holmes has authored over 50 U.S. patents.

Product Overview

Our RxSafe 1800 is the leader in automated, high-density robotic storage and retrieval of stock bottles. It represents an evolutionary leap in pharmacy automation technology because it goes beyond open shelf and drawer-based systems. Unlike vial filling robots that hold a small percentage of your formulary, an RxSafe system can securely hold virtually all of your oral solid stock bottles. When you’re busy, the RxSafe 1800 system really shines. Users report that a single operator can routinely fill at an effective rate of over 100 scripts per-hour. If your space is tight, or there’s better use for the space, RxSafe is the solution. In a 3-tower system up to 5,400 stock bottle containers fit in 40 square feet of space. Technology sets our retail automated strip packager, the RxASP 20™ apart — it takes oral solid packaging to a whole new level. Supporting unit dose and multi-med packaging with no more trays or down time to load trays. No more errors from hand filling trays. No more remote filling stations. With a fill rate of 50 multi-dose pouches per-minute, the RxASP has the highest speed and the highest dose count per pouch industry wide. This means one pouch per med administration time.

Features & Options

n RxSafe 1800 Accuracy. Efficiency. Security. With only one technician and one pharmacist, virtually every pharmacy, every day can fill all prescriptions without extra filling staff. And, with one open bottle at a time, there’s less chance for error, no wasted inventory, and no narcotics theft. In fact, the RxSafe 1800™ is so secure it’s been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense for CII narcotics storage and dispensing.

With the RxSafe 1800, inventory is always 100% accurate because it stores stock bottles behind locked doors and forces workflow at one station without the added expense of other software or hardware. Remote Stock Management is another standard feature of the RxSafe 1800. n RxASP 20 The RxASP 20™ makes starting a retail adherence packaging program a breeze. Our strip packaging offers your pharmacy customers a convenient medication solution. This alternative simplifies the cumbersome med management of vials and blister packs. Our “hi-fidelity” pouch printing allows you to customize the strip packages with the most versatile options on the market, including your pharmacy’s logo, instructions, and patient medication info. With the “easiest-to-open” pouches, the RxASP 20 overcomes the problems with competitive pouches when it comes to ease-of-use. Plus, it has the lowest operating cost, as well as the lowest consumables cost in the industry. Why? Automatically and dynamically, the RxASP creates a single or multi-dose pouch size that exactly fits the contents for every pouch — saving material and time. No machine configuration required. What really stands out? This is the only strip packager with optional, built-in vision inspection. More importantly, machine inspection happens “real time” in a single workflow step without a secondary machine. Designed to be modular and scalable, the RxASP line has the smallest footprint of any strip packager on the market. If you’re looking to add retail adherence packaging to your pharmacy, let us help you make the transition. RxSafe offers a full marketing support program with options to get you up and running in no time. Including, web development, social media, search engine optimization (SEO), professional consultation, videos, marketing templates, and logo design — all at a lower cost than our competition.

Company Background

Based in Louisiana, Manchac Technologies developed the DOSIS suite of products to improve pharmacy efficiency and accuracy. Manchac is a local word meaning “better way”, and we have built our company around the mission of providing better solutions and even better service to pharmacies. We are proud of the difference we have made over the past decade in the hundreds of pharmacies with which we have partnered. We are excited to continue to help pharmacies reduce their costs of production while providing higher quality services to their patients. Since our first robot sold in 2009, our DOSIS L60 robots have become the “go-to solution” for pharmacies wanting to improve singlemedication blister card operations. In the last few years, Manchac has broadened our offerings to include the DOSIS U60 unit-dose robot as well as printing and pre-pack productivity software to extend efficiencies beyond the automated filling and labeling completed within the robots. In 2017, we introduced the revolutionary DOSIS 360 solution for filling and checking multi-dose cards. In the years to come, Manchac will continue to enhance the performance of our proven products while delivering new, innovative pharmacy productivity solutions.

Product Overview

The DOSIS products each focus on three main objectives: 1.) reducing the opportunities for pharmacy errors by minimizing the human intervention required, 2.) reducing disorder in the pharmacy by providing automated, predictable, and repeatable processes, and 3.) lowering operating costs by reducing labor and eliminating non-valueadded activities for the pharmacy staff. All of the DOSIS products are driven by our powerful, highlyconfigurable software interface. Filling and printing activities can be routed, prioritized, and configured based on any data received from the pharmacy management software. For example, fill patterns (calendar, split-cards, etc.) and label templates can be adapted for different customer facilities or prescription types. DOSIS systems integrate seamlessly to help pharmacies complete daily and cycle prescriptions as well as prepack, first dose, and e-kit stock.

Product Descriptions

n DOSIS L60: The LTC industry standard for automated filling, sealing,

and patient-labeling of single-medication blister card prescriptions, each DOSIS L60 robot has monthly production capacity exceeding 15,000 blister cards. Using one-of-a-kind dispensing technology to eliminate the need for canister exchanges or on-site canister hardware calibration, DOSIS robots allow generic manufacturers to be changed without changing canisters.

n DOSIS C60: Adapted from the L60 design, the DOSIS C60 offers

identical functionality but is physically adapted for 3"x 9" cards commonly used for narcotics or to fit in med carts configured for strip-packaging. Each DOSIS C60 card holds up to 16 doses.

n DOSIS U60: Based on the L60 platform, DOSIS U60 adds the functionality of full unit-dose labeling within the robot. Each blister of each card can be printed with your requirements of NDC bar code, drug name and strength, lot number, expiration date, etc.

n DOSIS 360: For retail and LTC pharmacies, DOSIS 360 provides an

automated, controlled system for filling multi-med blister cards at a very low cost-of entry compared to any robot on the market. Various multimed card formats are supported, and a single technician working with DOSIS 360 can correctly fill, seal, and label multi-med cards for over 250 patients per month. Whether your pharmacy serves twenty-five or a thousand patients in multi-med cards, the DOSIS 360 system will grow with your business. DOSIS 360 is a complete solution that empowers the filling, sealing, labeling, and checking of multi-med cards while fitting into existing countertop work spaces.

n DOSIS mPAQ Printing: There are two primary aspects to DOSIS

mPAQ Printing: directional (or work zone) printing and med-pass printing. Directional printing can route labels throughout the pharmacy based on prescription data, medication location, etc. Med-pass (or time-pass) printing automatically highlights color-coded labels to match med-pass data and times for patients and their facilities.

n DOSIS Pre-Pack Manager: For pharmacies using pre-packs, DOSIS

Pre-Pack Manager significantly minimizes the inventory and reduces the labor required throughout the pre-pack process. Pre-Pack Manager automatically drives consumption and restocking of pre-pack cards via the DOSIS robots.

26

We’re no longer in the same business as most retail stores, trying to sell 90-day supplies for $12.” Increasing Pharmacy Sales without Increasing Prescriptions Instead of focusing where the pharmacy is losing money, shifting your mindset to finding new non-prescription opportunities can reap significant results.

CASE STUDY the power of starting a two-minute conversation, with sales hitting $10,000 per month by September. At a margin tipping 50 percent, John’s Ortho Molecular Products sales now translate to a $5,000 profit per month, which equates to over $1,000 per week, just by adding the Digital Replete interface to his RMS Point-of-Sale system. And, he didn’t increase his prescription volume! Month

“When RMS called me and said, ‘Hey, we’re

A Seamless Point-of-Sale Integration

thinking about integrating Ortho Molecular

When John’s team scans a prescription at the register, the RMS system searches for the drug, and if there is Replete information, it pops up on the screen and the clerk can print this information on receipt paper, prompting the team to discuss the program and how it can alleviate negative side effects.

Products with our POS system. Do you want to be a beta site?’ I immediately responded, ‘Yes, yes, yes – I’ve been waiting for something like this for ten, fifteen years. Absolutely.” John Hoeschen, R.Ph Owner of St. Paul Corner Drug St. Paul, Minnesota

“With an ‘in-the-moment transaction,’ that’s when you can get people to commit to something. After the fact, or two days later, it just doesn’t have the same punch. It’s easier to have the conversation when it’s about a prescription in their hands and they can pay for it immediately.” John shares that this interaction makes his customers comment, “Wow, I go to a great pharmacy. They’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing, they’re giving me great information.” This solidifies the relationships the team’s been building and cements it to a point where they won’t go anywhere else, even if it’s cheaper. Shifting the Mindset: Selling vs. Helping But like most independent pharmacy teams, it’s not always easy to confidently step into the space of making recommendations for supplements. No one enjoys selling, as it’s part of the psyche that if you are selling anything, you’re trying to get people to do something that isn’t in their best interest. Not to mention, it can be intimidating knowing that the patient could ask a question where you don’t know the answer.

www.rm-solutions.com

The problem is that you’re so busy avoiding selling that you’re often neglecting to provide customers with the value you have to offer as a highly-trained and skilled healthcare professional. In many cases, the patient doesn’t even know how to think about what you have to offer, much less know how to choose it. By shifting 27

CASE STUDY

your mindset from selling to helping, you can identify your patients’ needs and then educate them on what you can do for them and recommend relevant products, programs and services that will support them. It is always the customer’s choice whether or not to buy what you are recommending. And if you don’t let them know what you have to offer, you actually take away that choice. With prompts automatically appearing in the point-of-sale system, it mitigates the chance of forgetting to discuss the supplement while building the team’s confidence with the information printed in front of them. “A lot of pharmacies have allowed themselves to not learn about it, and that’s unfortunate because there’s enough good information now to educate yourself and to be able to provide that level of quality information to patients. Don’t get me wrong, I spent a lot of time learning stuff myself to be able to make recommendations, but then the reward is that the money follows. Your sales increase, profits go up and then your ability to help more people goes up because now you have more resources.” A Zero-Marketing Budget JOHN’S VIEWPOINT “RMS isn’t in the business of offering enhancements that really don’t mean anything to my business. At the end of the day, RMS is innovative. They are thinking out of the box – doing things that are different that allow me to continue to grow my business and to be successful in doing that. Without partners like RMS, that’s not possible. I know people complain about their particular software systems all the time – I rarely.”

With the Ortho Molecular line and RMS interface, John’s team no longer has to constantly chase new patients because his current ones don’t leave, they’re spending more money and they’re spreading the word to their friends and family. “It becomes a wildfire. I can’t tell you how many strangers just walk in now, and I literally have a zero marketing budget. They say either their practitioner or neighbor sent them because we carry this product line or because we’ll ask them questions.” Innovating for Better Business Decisions With nearly 50 percent of all adults taking at least one prescription and many leading to the depletion of critical nutrients, the intuitive RMS Digital Replete interface helps pharmacy teams start the conversation about reducing negative side effects, while boosting front-end nutritional sales and improving customer engagement. “As an RMS customer since 2002, I’ve experienced first-hand how they constantly look forward to the future, building a point-of-sale system that makes their customers’ lives run cleaner, smoother and more straightforward. They’re doing things that are innovative and allow me to continue to grow my business and to be successful. When they asked if I wanted to integrate a free digital nutrient depletion to my system, I said absolutely, I’ve been waiting for something like this for 15 years. From morning to night, it completely changed how I look at and run my business, and the decisions I make.”

How do you improve patient outcomes while increasing profitability?

With RMS’ new integration with Ortho Molecular Products’ Digital Replete Software, you can accomplish both! Many commonly prescribed medications can cause drug-induced nutrient depletion. RMS can help you identify these potential nutrient depletions, offer pertinent nutrient depletion information, and display a supplement recommendation, all at the time the prescription is picked up.*

CASE STUDY Software-Integrating Platform Boosts Pharmacy Efficiency and Revenue

Randy McDonough, B.S, PharmD, CGP, BCPS Director of Clinical Services and Co-Owner of Towncrest Pharmacy in Iowa City, IA and Solon Towncrest Pharmacy in Solon, IA 2016 NCPA Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year

Pick low-hanging fruit: For McDonough, providing immunizations is perhaps one of the easiest opportunities out there. ~ Randy McDonough, B.S, PharmD, CGP, BCPS

PRIMARY INTENDED OUTCOME(s) Dwindling profits and the shift towards more clinically focused care prompted community pharmacists to identify new opportunities to expand services, practice at the top of their license, and optimize patient outcomes — all of which translated into additional revenue streams. Leveraging the right technological solutions plays a key role in enabling pharmacies to transition to a more comprehensive approach to patient-centered care. “We didn’t have a clear crystal ball, but we had a pretty good idea that pharmacists, at some point, were not going to be paid for the product. It’s going to be about the service they provide,” said Randy McDonough, B.S., Pharm.D., M.S., CGP, BCPS, FAPhA, Director of Clinical Services and Co-Owner of Towncrest Pharmacy in Iowa City, IA and Solon Towncrest Pharmacy in Solon, IA.

BACKGROUND Randy McDonough and his partner Mike Deninger are at the leading edge when it comes to community pharmacies improving patient care through clinical services. McDonough oversees the development, implementation and quality assurance of clinical services including Medication Therapy Management (MTM), nursing home consultation, wellness screenings, immunizations, and adherence services. He is also board certified in geriatrics and as a pharmacotherapy specialist. McDonough’s work in MTM extends to helping implement these services within the Iowa Medicaid Pharmaceutical Case Management Program. “Today, our pharmacy is making 2 to 3,000 clinical interventions collectively every month, and we have anywhere between four to six pharmacists at a time within the practice,” said McDonough. Software solutions play a critical role in enabling pharmacies to deliver patient care. The two key solutions leveraged by Towncrest making it possible to deliver better patient care include

CASE STUDY “Delegate as many nonclinical tasks to technicians as possible. This improves efficiency and allows pharmacists more time to devote to clinical interventions.” Randy McDonough, B.S, PharmD, CGP, BCPS Director of Clinical Services and Co-Owner of Towncrest Pharmacy in Iowa City, IA and Solon Towncrest Pharmacy in Solon, IA

Pharmaserv and PharmClin. McKesson’s Pharmaserv application has been Towncrest’s chosen and trusted pharmacy management system for years. Towncrest relies on Pharmaserv to help fill prescriptions, adjudicate claims, and document dispensing activities. It features a flexible and user-friendly interface that helps McDonough gain insight and efficiently manage operations. PharmClin, a proprietary software that identifies patients needing clinical interventions, is McDonough’s and Deninger’s brainchild. Both former faculty at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, the clinicians developed the software to address patients’ needs while streamlining dispensing logistics. It is a dual-function documentation tool that allows pharmacists and staff to identify and document clinical interventions, improve prescriber communication, and collect clinical data from prescribers and vendors.

THE CHALLENGE: SMOOTHING INTERTECHNOLOGICAL CROSS-TALK For clinical services, identifying the right opportunity at the right time is the key to taking advantage of the golden moment when the patient is in the pharmacy. Having to log into and check multiple applications and websites for each patient increases staff labor, decreases efficiency, hinders patient engagement, and limits opportunities for clinical interventions. In addition, the lack of universally accessible electronic records limits community pharmacists’ access to complete patient health information. Pharmacy staff must rely on multiple electronic resources—many of which fail to generate cross-talk between platforms. This burden only intensifies obstacles already plaguing community pharmacists as they struggle to generate revenue in a climate where profits continue to plummet. Despite their major strides resulting from the use of Pharmaserv and PharmClin, increasing their options to provide further types of clinical engagements still remains an opportunity for Towncrest pharmacists.

EMPLOYING TECHNOLOGY AS VEHICLE TO OPTIMIZE PATIENT CARE To augment their existing software, McDonough and Deninger discovered Clinical Programs Solution (CPS) — a McKesson-crafted platform that gives pharmacists the flexibility to add or build clinical programs based on patients’ medical conditions and a business’s revenue goals. Of equal importance, CPS increases workflow efficiency by enabling multi-software cross-talk. “What’s nice about PharmClin is that it does communicate with Pharmaserv, and that’s why we’re excited about CPS,” McDonough said. “It really gives us access to three systems so we’re able to help document patient interactions with pharmacists through that system.” McDonough feels McKesson’s multi-software integration capabilities have enhanced the quality and expansion of his practice. Towncrest’s partnership with McKesson, the combination of Pharmaserv and Clinical Programs Solution (CPS), and McDonough’s and Deninger’s proprietary PharmClin solution are all proving highly beneficial to improving patient care and maximizing revenue.

CASE STUDY Towncrest Pharmacy Clinical Services

“We have evolved CPS into a good tool for our technicians to document some of the things that they’re seeing, too, so that information can be passed on to the pharmacist.”

• Med Check Program

Expanding the level of patient care in his pharmacy is crucial to financial success, McDonough said. “You become an effective manager of your resources to where now, the whole financial metrics have to change, too,” McDonough said. “Compared to another pharmacy that may have the same volume of prescriptions that I do, my percent payroll to total sales is totally [askew]. It’s because we’ve now invested in our practice providing services,” he explained.

• Medication Adherence Program • Medication Synchronization Service • Super Synch Service • Immunizations (Influenza, Pneumococcal Vaccines, Tdap, and Zostavax) • Pharmaceutical Case Management • MTM • Nursing Home Consulting • CPAP Service/Education • Ostomy Consultations • Drug Information Service • Compounding • Employer-Based Health Screenings • Diabetic Shoes • Compression Stockings • Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

Specialized Focus • Mental Health • Wellness • Geriatrics • End of Life/Palliative Care

Software integration, using CPS, also helped the pharmacies expand their medication therapy management (MTM) services beyond third parties routinely used in many community pharmacies: They serve group homes and patients with traumatic brain injuries and intellectual disabilities. McDonough and his colleagues also provide many other services, including: drug information, nursing home consultations, and medication synchronization. McDonough believes diversifying payers generates additional revenue, as well. For example, he and his team forged relationships with numerous group homes to provide medication reviews. They also manage 600 to 700 beneficiaries for a payer. Each relationship carries a different payment structure. Towncrest and Solon Towncrest have also formed other community-based partnerships. They offer compliance packaging assistance for a community mental health clinic. Known as the “Medication Adherence Program” or “MAP”, McDonough and his team work with psychiatric patients to improve their adherence. As a result, the clinic now has Towncrest manage its patients who are taking long-acting antipsychotics and refers additional patients to McDonough’s team.

THE FUTURE Looking forward, McDonough sees tremendous opportunity for McKesson’s CPS platform to increase external vendor synchronization. Recognizing the challenge of rising costs for software and other tools to continue revolutionizing community practice, McDonough offers these words of advice to fellow colleagues seeking to expand their practice by recruiting technology and value added services: “It’s not like we created these services overnight,” he revealed. “These are things that have evolved in the past decade, but all these services are functioning on their own and providing new income and new revenue for us.” McDonough feels McKesson’s Clinical Programs Solution and Pharmaserv will enhance the clinical services that Towncrest has put in place, helping to more efficiently identify new patient intervention opportunities. Taking advantage of the crosstalk now available between the three systems, Towncrest can continue to improve patient care and grow the business through the delivery of even more clinical services.

Preceptor Recognitions

Thank You Preceptors! Congratulations IPPE II Preceptor of the Year, Kaitlyn Prininski! The Pharmacy Program at Manchester University College of Pharmacy, Natural and Health Sciences awarded our first Preceptor of the Year awards in spring 2016. We would like to announce Kaitlyn Priniski of Memorial Hospital of South Bend as our inaugural IPPE II Preceptor of the Year recipient. The student nominating Kaitlyn wrote:

“My experience at this hospital was truly a fulfilling experiencing because of my preceptor. The preceptor was helpful from the very beginning... On the first day, I felt very welcomed and immediately was oriented with the hospital and staff... The preceptor created a schedule for me that best suited what I really need to see in the behind the scenes of a hospital. My schedule was very well-rounded in that I met different pharmacists in different settings... Even though I have over 8 years of hospital experience, my rotation experience truly filled in the gaps of many things I have never seen or experienced before in both hospitals I have worked in and it truly painted a more rounded picture of the endless possibilities within a field of pharmacy. I am very thankful for this amazing experience.”

The following colleges and organizations would like to acknowledge and thank the following preceptors for their hard work and dedication.

MCPHS University Thanks Christine Neveu-Beattie, RN and Michelle Lessner, RN

MCPHS University Office of Experiential Annual Preceptor Appreciation Seminar was held on September 8, 2016, in Westborough, MA. There were over 170 preceptors in attendance. A new award, Excellence in Interprofessional Education, was presented to the VNA of Manchester and Southern NH, by Nicole Carace, Pharm D, MCPHS University Faculty Coordinator, Manchester campus. The award was initiated to recognize preceptors who provide the opportunity for students to learn about, from, and with other healthcare professionals and students of healthcare professions, and presents invaluable learning opportunities for future pharmacy practitioners. Selection is based upon the preceptor’s commitment to engaging their students in interprofessional collaborative practice as documented through the student’s completed Interprofessional Education (IPE) assessments. APPE students visit patients with healthcare professionals (nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapists) and provide medication reconciliation, drug information, and education to patients. Accepting the award were Christine Neveu-Beattie, RN and Michelle Lessner, RN.

Testimonial

How can air entrapment affect your patient?

“ Speaking specifically about deaeration, we need to consider how the patient perceives a topical prescription given to them that still contains air or gas bubbles. In instances where the preparation is packaged in a metereddose measuring device, we risk under dosing the patient if any air bubbles are trapped in the preparation. At the same time, if the patient is used to what the administered metered-dose volume looks like, they may administer another actuation, thinking there is an issue with the packaging device. This can potentially result in an over dosage to the patient. When patients receive preparations that are consistently uniform in appearance and administration, not only do they feel that the pharmacy staff took time and care into the customization of their prescription but also, they are filling their prescriptions at a pharmacy that they can rely and depend on to deliver quality preparations.”

Company Background

BestRx started in 1985, when a computer programmer named Yogesh Desai learned that community pharmacy owners had the need for data entry software to track patients, medications, and print prescription labels. Over the next few years, the company went on to service numerous areas of Chicagoland before expanding to the northeast United States region as word spread of BestRx software. Today, BestRx services more than 1,000 pharmacies (and counting) across the country.

Product Overview

BestRx is a Windows based pharmacy management system for independent and retail pharmacies. Virtually all hardware is compatible with the system, however we have a suggested minimum system specifications list for optimal compatibility. Features of BestRx include: e-prescribing functionality (including controls), weekly AWP price updates, customized labels, patient eligibility checks, compatibility with various robot interfaces, coordination of benefits, and much more. Don’t hesitate, contact us to schedule a demo today!

n Rx Image Scanning & Document Management: With the Rx Image scanning feature, you can store prescription images on your computer. This expedites and simplifies the prescription verification workflow, as well as securely retains your prescription images digitally. In addition to scanning Rx images you can also scan and attach specific documents to a patient’s file, drug’s file, prescriber’s file, insurance plan’s file, or prescriptions themselves. n Nursing Home Module: Pharmacists can maintain multiple nursing homes’ information in BestRx. Patients can be assigned to a unique nursing home, while pharmacists can print medication administration records (MAR’s), physician’s order forms, or multi-dose or unit-dose packaging using the Dispill or Parata PASS Interface. We even offer E-MAR subscription services. n Messaging Services: This feature allows you to send automated and customized email or text messages to your patients to provide them with pertinent information. This information can vary including their medications, refills, or insurance coverage changes. Messaging interface will increase customer interaction and engagement, and inspire patient retention. n Cloud Backup: Performed nightly after your pharmacy has closed, this additional feature helps ensure you never lose data again. It is simple to setup and very affordable. It even sends notifications to your email regarding your data backup.

Testimonials

“ I used many different software programs in my 30+ years as an independent pharmacy owner. There are many outfits trying to get clients for their program, so the decision should be based on needs. After considering other systems, I happened to mention that I was shopping for a system to a pharmaceutical sales rep. He recommended BestRx. I called and found that the price was the most competitive, and that the system had enough bells and whistles so that a practitioner could do just about anything needed. Having the system for just one day, I knew that it was the most user friendly program I had ever owned.”

Features & Options

n BestPOS: Our point-of-sale system is a Windows based application that is fully integrated with the BestRx pharmacy management system to help boost your pharmacy’s profitability. BestPOS allows you to interface with your wholesaler to ensure that your inventory and pricing are upto-date. BestPOS will also give you the ability to track sales trends and manage your own customer loyalty program. Just like BestRx, BestPOS is reliable and easy-to-use so little training is needed to familiarize yourself with the system. Pairing the BestPOS system with the BestRx system is a smart way to maximize your pharmacy’s efficiency and customer satisfaction!

— Terry Gratzhofer, Vine Pharmacy, Chicago, IL

“ Let me begin by giving my resume as a pharmacist who has used a wide array of pharmacy software from Thrift Drugs, Eckerd Drugs, Rite Aid, and other independent pharmacies. Ten years ago, I started using BestRx for my own pharmacy and I have never looked back. BestRx during this time has given full support when needed and at the same time constantly upgraded the software so that we can use technology to ensure we are ahead of the game. I personally recommend anyone who is either starting a new pharmacy or is tired of their current software to consider BestRx. It is simple to use yet has all the whistles of the most current software in the pharmacy business.”

n Electronic Signature Capture: Capture signatures electronically with an electronic sig pad for in store pickups, or a mobile tablet device for delivery prescriptions.

CASE STUDY Bank Makes Dreams of Pharmacy Ownership Affordable, Realistic, and Easily Attainable Karen Downing PharmD, RPh

Owner of Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, NC

CUSTOMER • Karen Downing, PharmD, RPh LOCATION • Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, N.C. BUSINESS TYPE • Independent Pharmacy CHALLENGE • Financing purchase of independent pharmacy

Purchasing either an existing or new pharmacy averages a price tag of approximately $500,000 to $1.5 million. Painfully aware of the cost, Downing could not fathom making a down payment on such a loan. Her frustrations with the industry further compounded her despondence and desire to turn the tide. “I think owning my own pharmacy was always in the back of my mind, but I was always scared to the pull the trigger. I was like everybody else where I needed the cash to do it,” she said.

SOLUTION • Live Oak Bank servicing loan for 100% ownership

• Accelerated break-even rate (less than one year versus industry average of 3-5 years) • Minimal capital investment ($25,000) • Continuous support services throughout life of loan

But a fateful encounter with an independent pharmacy owner seeking to retire changed Downing’s fate. Soon, Downing found herself working at Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, North Carolina.

If money is holding you back, don’t let it. That is the easy part. Live Oak Bank makes it simple.” Karen Downing PharmD, RPh

Owner of Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, NC

The veteran pharmacist took another leap of faith by attending a national pharmacy conference where Live Oak Bank presented to small business hopefuls and current pharmacy owners. The speakers impressed her with their knowledge and handle on the industry. Then, in February 2016 — a year and a half after her chance meeting with the owner of Cape Fear Pharmacy — Downing purchased the pharmacy in her hometown with 100% ownership.

Live Oak Bank Default Rate One of the Lowest in the Industry Live Oak Bank, a financial lending institution based in Wilmington, North Carolina, specializes in servicing loans for small businesses nationwide. Founded in 2008, the lender originally serviced veterinary practices but has since expanded its clientele to include niches such as agriculture and healthcare. It began servicing pharmacy loans in 2010. The institution’s boutique agency environment grooms businesses for success throughout all phases of the loan — from pre-acquisition, business inception, and continuation — for the life of the loan. Live Oak Bank works with its borrowers to ensure they have enough capital to operate their businesses for the first 28 days after opening. “You’ve got your capital as a cushion on a daily basis, assuming no money coming in,” Downing explained. “In essence, that is still your money. That is your working capital, so if you look at your money — your investment — as being part of the working capital, then it really isn’t a down payment. That’s your working capital to take care of business on a daily basis,” she said. Live Oak Bank also boasts one of the lowest default rates in the industry. Downing partially attributes this to the institution’s tenacious front-end market research and ongoing client support mechanisms to help small business owners get off to a strong start. “The thing that stood out to me the most was their foreclosure rate. It’s minimal,” Downing said. “It is because of the support in them doing the due diligence to make sure the numbers work. They look at your numbers. ‘Hey your payroll is too high. You need to trim this down a bit.’ That’s really the main reason I chose them — their support mechanism.” Another distinguishing feature is the strong pharmacy experience Live Oak team members bring to the table. All the managers in the pharmacy department are pharmacy industry veterans whose backgrounds include pharmacy management, pharmacy distribution, and pharmacy ownership. In fact, one manager currently owns two pharmacies. Many pharmacy owners seeking to sell their businesses contact Live Oak Bank in advance, and the institution helps individuals interested in pharmacy ownership identify pharmacies for sale. However, despite the obvious conveniences, Downing recommends people looking to buy a pharmacy scope the market and area first. Finally, Live Oak Bank also invests in future pharmacists. It offers summer programs where pharmacy students can spend a week onsite to learn about the various aspects of pharmacy business and entrepreneurship.

I was considering leaving pharmacy altogether. I’d lost my soul.” Karen Downing PharmD, RPh

Owner of Cape Fear Pharmacy in Wilmington, NC

Minimal Capital Investment, Average Loan Processing Time of 47 Days Downing used part of her 401(k) to finance her initial capital investment. “You think, ‘There’s no way I can get a down payment on a loan of that size.’ You really don’t need that much money out of pocket. I took some money out of my 401(k), and I had enough so that I was good enough to go,” Downing explained. With a personal investment of $50,000, Downing closed on the pharmacy. The average processing time for a loan at Live Oak Bank is 47 days, and Downing says her turnaround time was expanded due to a major personal setback: Her father passed away. As a result, her application took about 6 months to complete, but her situation is a major outlier from Live Oak Bank’s norm.

Pharmacy Sees Profit in 10 Months Despite $200,000-a-Month Wholesale Invoices and $14,000-Monthly Loan Payments Downing’s wholesale invoices average approximately $200,000 per month. She utilizes Epic Rx as her group purchasing organization (GPO), which reconciles and expedites third-party payment processing. Updates regarding which claims have been paid arrive daily in her inbox. By utilizing a GPO such as Epic Rx, Downing receives payment from some third parties in as little as three weeks. The slowest payers take up to 90 days. Downing’s monthly loan premium falls just below $14,000, and she is on-track to pay it off in 10 years. As of December 1, 2016, Downing has already cleared the break-even point and anticipates a profit, when it takes most independent pharmacy owners three to five years to see a return. However, in addition to her support from Live Oak Bank, Downing feels having acquired an existing, well-maintained store in a high-profile area contributes to her exponential return rate. By acquiring a pre-existing pharmacy, she inherited a strong customer base. Working in the pharmacy prior to purchasing it also gave her a first-hand opportunity to assess the store’s strengths, challenges, and business model. Downing believes another important success factor for independent pharmacy ownership is the ability to review claims and examine which payers have lower reimbursement rates or negative returns. Based on her findings, Downing negotiates with patients and prescribers to find suitable alternatives that improve her reimbursement rates without compromising patient outcomes. After finally realizing her dream 25 years later, Downing believes her experience offers hope to others doubting their ability to own a pharmacy. “The most important thing I can say is: Do not think you can’t do it. You can do it. It is not as difficult as you may think it is or as out of reach as you think it is. By no means is it an easy process. It involves a lot of work and a lot of time, but it is time well-spent. It’s time you’re investing in yourself, in your future. It’s an opportunity to make your own ideas a success instead of someone else’s.”

Harbor Pharmacy started with one facility — a 159-bed assisted-living facility — and today services 25 facilities with close to 3,000 beds.

72

The company started with one facility — a 159-bed assisted-living facility — and today services 25 facilities with close to 3,000 beds. QS/1 — The Ultimate Marketing Tool In addition to using QS/1’s PrimeCare, Harbor Pharmacy also uses a number of QS/1 products to manage its operations, including WebConnect®, a web-based tool that provides facility customers secure and easy access to patient medication information. Using a tablet, smartphone or workstation with internet access, WebConnect provides LTC facilities with convenient access to order refills and enables staff to review patient information, check drug interactions and print reports and MARS — whether from the nurses’ station or at the patient’s bedside.

C A S E S T U DY WebConnect Advanced technology for LTC pharmacies.

“Facilities and physicians are concerned when they come to an independent pharmacy if we can bring the same technology they’re used to. And WebConnect allows us to demonstrate that.” James Branshaw, R.Ph. – Owner, Harbor Pharmacy Harbor Pharmacy’s facility customers use WebConnect to perform a range of tasks, including ordering refills, processing credits or returning medication. They also use it to process and complete such forms as Active Medication, Medication Discharge, Leave of Absence or Medication Reconciliation Sheets, Branshaw said. Having this technology has helped Harbor Pharmacy market itself, Branshaw said. “It’s proof that we have the technology that the larger chains have (and) can compete with them,” he said. Branshaw said the reporting abilities that QS/1’s technology provides has been one of its strongest advantages. Staying Relevant When not managing the day-to-day business of a closed-door LTC pharmacy, Branshaw said he tries to stay on top of such concerns as reimbursements, regulatory affairs, keeping customers happy and staying relevant. And with QS/1 in his corner, Harbor Pharmacy is able to juggle it all. “From the reimbursement aspect, QS/1’s reporting is fantastic,” he said. The system provides full access to all of the data, Branshaw said, and what’s more, he is able to retrieve exactly the data he needs. “Reporting has definitely been the strong point," he said. "With some other vendors, it was canned reports only. With QS/1, I can really get into the detail and pick out just the pieces I need. That’s been extremely helpful.”

When it comes to regulatory affairs and keeping up with state requirements, QS/1’s technology provides pharmacists with a level of confidence sorely needed in today’s increasingly complicated marketplace. Electronic prescribing — required of all prescriptions in the state of New York — is an area where QS/1 has made all the difference, Branshaw said, as pharmacies everywhere have been transitioning from the old ways of processing scripts — using paper, fax and telephone — to a totally electronic method. “It’s comforting knowing that I’m not the only one they’re addressing in the state of New York. They’ve got other pharmacies as well,” Branshaw said. “And they’ve got the power behind the company to really make some change happen in the software.” “In the beginning, as with any transition, it was difficult,” Branshaw said. “However, the QS/1 product made it pretty easy to transition.” When it comes to recommending QS/1, Branshaw said he would first tell another LTC pharmacy owner about PrimeCare’s Workflow. “The Workflow is fantastic,” he said. “The reporting is amazing. You’re able to control the system how you want to, instead of the system being run one particular way. It allows you to get very granular.” 73

C A S E S T U DY Interfaces and Support You Can Count On QS/1’s range of interfaces has meant Harbor Pharmacy can go after contracts in the LTC arena with a high degree of confidence knowing they are able to satisfy any requirements the facility may have or be able to integrate seamlessly with their operations. “The interfaces with the different vendors have been critical. Every facility we have has their own idea of what software works best for them. And they’ll pick a different electronic medical record. QS/1 having this robust Interfaces department allows us to say, ‘Yes, we can take you on as a customer and we’ll support that.’ “Being able to not be handcuffed into a certain number of interfaces or having to wait for these interfaces to be built and developed — it’s been fantastic,” Branshaw said, adding that they have to be ready to respond when a new facility comes calling within a matter of months. “We don’t have years to wait,” he said. “We cultivate them. These contracts are three to five years long, but when they say it’s time and they’ve decided

“I know that we wouldn’t have experienced the growth that we’ve experienced over the past 10 years without QS/1 right there beside us.” James Branshaw, R.Ph. – Owner, Harbor Pharmacy

on us, we’ve got to be able to satisfy their requirements and be able to fully integrate with that facility.” “It’s not a paper-based system anymore,” Branshaw said. “It’s electronic-based now, so we’ve got to be able to do that, and I think the Interfaces department at QS/1 does a tremendous job (with that).” Branshaw said he’d also give PrimeCare’s support team high marks. “The PrimeCare support staff is fantastic, hands down,” he said. “I love the support that they can give me, and they’re really quick on the resolution component.” In fact, Branshaw credits QS/1 with helping Harbor Pharmacy achieve success. “I know that we wouldn’t have experienced the growth that we’ve experienced over the past 10 years without QS/1 right there beside us,” he said, adding that many times QS/1 staff worked alongside his staff to engage and secure the LTC facility’s business. “My colleagues at QS/1 (would) be on the phone with me working with the other software companies and the facility, our potential or existing client, and they were right there to guide us along the way,” he said. “They would even help out the other companies that might be having difficulty integrating all four components together — the client, the software, QS/1 and then my pharmacy. They’ve been fantastic.”

Formed in 1994, The Compliance Team (TCT) is the first womanowned national healthcare accreditation organization authorized in the United States of America by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to accredit Part-A Rural Health Clinic (RHC); and Part-B Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, Supplies (DMEPOS) participating Medicare providers. Convinced that existing accreditation models of the day were confusing and often counter-productive, Founder and CEO, Sandra (Sandy) Canally, RN, spent the better part of four years developing and field testing healthcare’s first operations-based accreditation programs. Inspired by the teachings of Florence Nightingale and modern-day quality icons W. Edwards Deming and Masaaki Imai, Sandy has built an accreditation model based on process simplification and standardization that also incorporates point-of-contact continuous improvement.

CASE STUDY Watching a patient fall through the cracks of the healthcare system was an all-to-familiar scenario for Steve Adkins, PharmD, RPh, who, as a child watched his grandfather succumb prematurely to heart disease. He recognized that his family needed a healthcare advocate and assumed the role without hesitation. This prompted him to become a community pharmacist. Today, he sees his role not only as an opportunity to advocate for his family, but also to serve as a spokesperson for patients without a voice.

Decision Adkins started investigating automated solutions that filled either pouch packs or multi-dose blister cards in 2012. By the summer of 2015, Health Park Pharmacy was having a hard time keeping up with the adherence packaging demands of their growing patient base. Adkins knew that Health Park needed an automation company to help them keep up with the demands of their new home healthcare partner, without sacrificing quality assurance. Adkins had spent close to three years investigating each of the companies that offered automation for compliance packaging. He found that pharmacies throughout the nation with the highest rate of success, had one thing in common — they were all utilizing TCGRx automation. This, coupled with the positive feedback he received from his industry colleagues about TCGRx, prompted Adkins to re-examine the company’s offerings. Soon after connecting with a local TCGRx sales representative, Adkins and his wife, Vanessa, found themselves on a flight to the company’s headquarters in Powers Lake, Wisconsin. Several factors ultimately swayed Adkins’ decision to purchase both the ATP® 2 and the InspectRx® imaging system. These include: • Unparalleled Imaging Technology: The InspectRx Imaging System utilizes a 12-point electronic prescription verification system. The same technology used by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for facial recognition in airports, is used to image each and every pouch to ensure that each patient gets the right medication at the right time, every time. • Facilitated Quality Assurance: The InspectRx compares the images of the medications in each of the packs, with an associated reference image that has been created and verified by a registered pharmacist. Medication packs with a solid green box denotes successful verification. Medications packs without verifiable images or potential errors are denoted with either orange or red boxes respectively. In such instances, a pharmacist will manually inspect those packs, corrections will be made if needed, and those packs are reimaged for final inspection. • Efficiency: The combination of the ATP 2 and the InspectRx machines reduces the time and manual labor required to fill and dispense patients’ medications in adherence packaging. • Culture: According to Adkins, the culture at TCGRx from the top down, was unmatched by any of its competitiors. “Duane, Matt, and the entire TCGRx Team were filled with passion. That passion didn’t stop at providing a better machine. They truly want to be a partner by connecting us with the resources, industry partners, and opportunities to be successful.”

Pharmacies provide so many supportive services for skilled clinicians when patients are in hospitals & skilled nursing facilities. However, when that same patient (a lay person) with 10+ medications gets discharged, they are forced to manage everything on their own. It just doesn’t make sense,” Adkins explained. Results Since implementing TCGRx automation, Health Park Pharmacy has seen significant growth in their program. Over the last twelve months, they’ve been able to onboard close to 1,500 patients. They’ve gone from an average census of approximately 350 in December 2015, to approximately 1,200 in December 2016 — almost a 250% increase in less than one year. The most important part to Adkins and his team, is that they have been able to grow this program without sacrificing quality or having to add significant labor costs. According to data from a CMS Innovation Pilot with Community Care of North Carolina, patients enrolled in Health Park Pharmacy’s Project Harmony Program have a 35% reduction in in-patient hospitalizations, 44% reduction in ED visits, and >25% reduction in overall cost of care. “We typically get between 5-10 referrals daily. While many of those come from our home health care partner Well Care, we also get a number of referrals from physicians, hospitals, rehab facilities, geriatric care managers, home care agencies, case managers from both major medical insurance companies, and a local Transitions CareChoices Team, started by Transitions LifeCare and Hospice.” Adkins and his team have also been able to save significantly on labor and packaging costs. Adkins estimates they would have had to add approximately three full time technicians to safely manage the new patients in hand packed multi-dose cards. The labor savings alone exceeds $90,000 per year according to Adkins. Adkins also estimates they save approximately 50% in supply costs, compared to the hand packed multi-dose cards.

Conclusion Adkins credits his amazing team and their partnership with TCGRx for meeting the challenge of scaling their post-acute care solution, while maintaining best in class patient outcomes, reducing supply costs and keeping labor costs in check. “The last year has definitely had its share of stress. Luckily, we have an amazing team and we have had the support of all of the folks at TCGRx. I had a vision, a way to improve a broken system. Thankfully, we had two of the nations best pharmacists and the nation’s best automation company to help implement that vision. We couldn’t have done it without Jennifer Pippin, Diann Sutherland, and our friends at TCGRx,” said Adkins.
