The One-Container Pharmaceutical Waste Solution Simple, no worries, the highest level of technology, and best of all – full compliance. Clinicians simply put both the non-hazardous and the RCRA hazardous pharmaceutical waste in the same black container.* Clean Harbors, the largest hazardous waste incineration company in North America, will pickup, transport, dispose of, and keep you in full compliance. We own every step of the process and don’t broker your waste to someone else, like your red container medical waste provider has to. Ensuring compliance to waste segregation protocols can be difficult, both to train staff and to enforce. This can put your hospital at risk for regulatory action.

have a real-time, accurate view of the value, location and levels of each inventory item. Only MedPortal integrates medication tracking and control from the wholesaler to the patient, providing pharmacists with what they need when they need it. Beginning when an order is received from the wholesaler, technicians use MedPortal to scan in the entire order. MedPortal logs the purchase order and reconciles the items; recording their respective lot numbers and expiration dates. Once received, the inventory is replenished in the BoxPicker automated storage and retrieval system and satellite locations utilizing the software’s PAR level data report. BoxPicker is an automated pharmacy warehouse providing high-density storage and retrieval of medications and supplies in non-refrigerated, refrigerated and dual temperature models. The modular and scalable system configures to meet the unique needs of each pharmacy as a cost-effective alternative to vertical carousel storage. Using BoxPicker, pharmacies pick medications up to 3 times faster than a carousel, averaging 5 picks per minute and up to 300 transactions an hour. BoxPicker utilizes scan in and out practice to provides extremely accurate inventory control while optimizing pharmacy workflow. From the BoxPicker, pharmacists pull bulk oral solids for unit-dose packaging in an ATP Series high-speed packager. The ATP, available in multiple sizes to accommodate individual pharmacy’s needs, packages oral solids and half tablets quickly and accurately. Its unique Pause Batch and SkipMed functions give pharmacies the flexibility and freedom to package without interruptions. Its Pause Batch option interrupts the current packaging process in order to package and dispense STAT orders sent from the HIS through MedPortal, then resumes the original operation. If inventory of a specific pill runs out during the packaging process, the SkipMed function tells the packager to move on to the next item, while requesting a refill of the out-of-stock item. Swisslog’s inspired solutions for medication management give hospital pharmacies the safety they need and the control they want.

Company Background
Answering the call for an all-new method for software development, IQware created a revolutionary process that removed coding and scripting from the equation—and replaced it with rules. Combining this rule-based environment with an intuitive presentation layer and HP OpenVMS—a highly secure operating system that when deployed correctly has never been hacked—IQware released the IQware Development Platform v1 to the world on June 20, 2007. Founded in 2006, IQware is a new, patented (US #7,322,028) way of doing healthcare software. IQware is both a Master Data Management (MDM) application and a rule-based development tool to create new and/or enhance existing healthcare applications that deliver the right data to the right place at the right time. IQware is rule-based which means that the capabilities and functions that IQware delivers are controlled by rules. All decisions by IQware are made at run-time – not at compile time. When you change a rule, you change what IQware does – right away – with no programming required. This allows business process experts to develop functionality without translating the need to programmers writing code.
Product Overview
I Qware developed a comprehensive, HIPAA-compliant health information delivery system for MTM plans. Providing a secure audit trail and comprehensive reports for reimbursement, the IQware MTM solution: • Eases administrative and reporting burdens through automation – Pharmacists have more time with patients and increased revenue opportunities. • More MTM patients = more MTM revenue for the pharmacist. • Tracks and taxes each MTM transaction – Creating revenue for the pharmacist each time an MTM encounter is logged into the system. • Tracks adverse drug effects and interactions – Specifically targets and maximizes positive patient outcomes, thereby reducing negative consequences of drug interactions. • Integrates seamlessly with all existing pharmacy systems. • Installs without cooperation with or intervention from current vendors.
• Complies with HIPAA and PDP rules and regulations – Offers a complete audit trail of all transactions for governmental reporting and filing requirements. • Offers 100% resistance to desktop viruses hackers – With built-in security at the software level. • Identifies “dual- eligibles” – Alerts the pharmacist to lapsed or late payments by PDPs. • Identifies patients within the current population who could benefit from MTM/DSM services currently or in the future.

Company Background Helmer Scientific is a manufacturer and worldwide distributor of cold chain storage and processing laboratory equipment. We have over 35 years of experience in providing high-quality temperature controlled environments. Our products are used in over 100 countries throughout the world. Helmer originated in the blood bank market where precise temperature control is essential to the successful storage and transfusion of products. These same principles have been applied to the design and development of our pharmacy products. Product Overview Pass-Thru Refrigerators serve a useful function in managing the storage and handling of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biologicals, samples, and other temperature-sensitive products in pharmacies, hospitals, universities, and research applications. Improving Aseptic Compounding while Reducing Costs by Aseptic Enclosures XLTC
Superior to typical cleanrooms and other isolators. This patent pending design provides the most aseptic environment attainable. It is safer, more efficient to use and much less expensive to operate and maintain. President:
Michael Bellm Founded: 1992 Toll-free Phone: (800) 418-9289 Address: 3720 Hampton Avenue St. Louis, MO 63109 Website: www.asepticenclosures.com
Company Background
Parenteral production has been our company’s focus since its founding in 1992. First in cGMP compliant, FDA registered manufacturing facilities. In that market, since the 1980s, there has been a significant shift in the way facilities are protecting their product and consumers. They have found the traditional clean-room approach often inadequate and resultantly, are upgrading by implementing isolation. Although the Aseptic Enclosures’ product line includes more profitable cleanrooms, our recommendations, first and foremost, are based on technologies that provide the best protection for your pharmacy staff and its patients.
Product Lines
Cleanrooms, Negative pressure rooms, Portable cleanrooms, Isolators, Custom engineering controls, CAIs, CACIs, Hoods & cleanbenches, and related consulting services. Contamination Control Supplies including: Disinfectants, Sterilants, Decontaminates, Alcohol, Diluents, Sterile Wipes, & Mopping Supplies Garbing and Gowning Supplies including: Gowns, Gloves, Booties, Hair Nets, Sticky Mats, Storage, & Waste Containers Sterility/Microbiological testing supplies and services. Sterile filling style, competency evaluation, media test kits for low, medium and high risk procedural testing. Fingertip testing kits for gowning competency and aseptic technique. Surface contact plates for engineering controls evaluation. Impact air plates for air and HVAC aseptic quality assurance. Consulting services. Our depth of technical knowledge and support capabilities on the above product line is extensive. We can consult on topics ranging from facility’s evaluations, through usage training.
Product Overview n Improving Patient Care The events surrounding the recent fungal meningitis infections are tragic. If there is any good to come from its lessons, at least it has brought a heightened awareness of aseptic processing and an urgency to correct deficiencies. Nearly 100,000 people a year fall victim to Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs). Roughly 30% of that number is caused by bloodstream infection.
Per day, that number is 274 and 82 respectively. Significantly more people, every day, than in total from NECC’s contaminated product. A “properly” gowned person generates 1,000 CFUs of Viable live organisms every hour. The number one cause of HAIs is touch contamination. The more experienced the compounding technician, the more likely they are to contaminate their work. Our company has witnessed thousands of aseptic cleanroom infractions. This information is at the foundation of our patent pending XLTC series of isolators. Its innovative design helps enforce good procedure and significantly reduces the risks of sample contamination. It is an undeniable aseptic improvement. Again, a “properly” gowned person generates 1,000 CFUs an hour.
n Cost Containment Parenteral manufacturers typically will spend upwards of 10 times more to isolate a process than it would cost to put that process in a cleanroom. That is because of the scope and complexities of their processes. Often pharmacists believe their process is too large to contain in an isolator, but as compared to the manufacturing environment that simply is not the case. Ultimately, the hospital process ends upon a, simple to isolate, bench. Hospital costs for Isolation vs. Clean-rooms are the polar opposite of manufacturers. Isolation equipment is typically 1/10th the cost of cleanrooms. Isolators are faster, easier and much less expensive to install. They are easier and cheaper to clean. They greatly reduce maintenance costs. They yield a much more efficient process. They reduce, and even eliminate gowning costs (avg. $20.00 per entry). They significantly reduce the risk of CFUs entering the process, thereby reducing “risk associated” costs.
Vital Fact
• A “properly” gowned person generates 1,000 CFUs of viable live organisms every hour!
• The number one cause of HAIs is touch contamination.
• The more experienced the compounding technician, the more likely they are to contaminate their work.
• Poor technique is the #1 source of contamination.
• HAIs are the leading cause of death in US hospitals. *References upon request.

At PCCA, we help pharmacists and prescribers create personalized medicine that makes a difference in patients’ lives. Our members solve some of their customers’ toughest medical challenges – all while running their own businesses. That’s why we provide more products, more education and more support than any other organization. We’re always working to help our members grow, and we’ve grown, too. What began in 1981 as a small network of pharmacists is almost 4,000 members strong, with 360 employees worldwide and five distribution centers serving the U.S., Canada and Australia. At PCCA, we’ve made it our business to support compounding pharmacists every step of the way – and then some. It’s all about bringing a level of service that makes you say, “WOW.”
Product Overview
While our members have access to over 4,560 active and non-active chemicals – more than any other compounding pharmacy supplier – the competitive advantage we bring our members is the industry’s most comprehensive quality control and assurance program we bring to those chemicals every day. Find out more at www.pccarx.com/quality. Here is the Quality Difference that PCCA Brings to Member Pharmacies Every Day: Every Lot – Not Just the Initial Lot – Is Tested
• We do not solely rely upon the USP or manufacturer’s label to ensure the quality of the chemicals received. • Every lot received is tested using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible analysis, melting point, specific gravity, solubility and chemical identifications. • Additional testing of APIs is done using actual formulations.
14 Checks and Analyses are Performed on Each Chemical Lot
• Nine qualitative and quantitative analyses are performed on every incoming chemical lot before it is released for repacking or sale. • Each lot is tested against the certificate of analysis (C of A), including: USP, EP, NF, FCC, ACS and PCCA standards. • After initial testing, all results are reviewed for accuracy by a second QC analyst. • Chemicals are tested only by degreed Chemical Analysts. PCCA Rejects Almost 200 Chemical Lots Per Year
• PCCA is fully registered by the FDA, DEA and State of Texas as a manufacturer and follows current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). • Only FDA-registered and GMP-certified manufacturers are used for the purchase of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). • Exclusive, proven bases and formulas. Proven Bases for More Patient Options
With access to more than 50 proprietary bases – unavailable to other compounders – your PCCA pharmacy will have more options to treat your patients, from VersaBase® topicals, specifically designed for BHRT delivery, to Lipoderm®, the industry’s only transdermal proven to deliver four drugs simultaneously. Comprehensive Education is the Key to Compounding
Continuing education is the key to quality compounding solutions. Your PCCA pharmacy has access to more Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited continuing education than anyone else. In 2013, PCCA will conduct more than 115 ACPEaccredited sessions across the United States, Canada and Australia, as well as scores of other training sessions from clinical and technicianrelated topics to sales and marketing. Complete Support
Member pharmacies have access to the industry’s best support with more than 30 pharmacists and pharmaceutical chemists on-hand to answer the toughest compounding and clinical questions. PCCA has more pharmacy consultants on staff than any other competitor, answering more than 500 calls a day from members with an average response time of less than 30 minutes.

He has served as a board member and chair of a non-profit hospital for ten years. Emerlyn Technology was created to provide effective tools to pharmacies for the management of their purchases. Our team has 40+ years experience in the pharmacy industry and provides the knowledge needed to help your business. Annually, our SureCost platform manages millions of ordering transactions and billions of purchasing dollars. Our company provides services to individual pharmacies and large publicly traded chains.

Florence Rome
P1 students who spend their Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience rotation at the CVS site in West Hartford, CT have the pleasure of working with preceptor Florence Rome. Her unique background allows her to connect with students who have also immigrated to America and she truly appreciates their various cultures. Rome was born in Nigeria, attended high school in Switzerland and moved to America after she graduated. She earned her pharmacy degree from St. John’s University in 1987. At her site, students focus on community practice and become familiar with the tasks involved in the day-to-day life of retail pharmacy. “After they are introduced to the pharmacy’s physical lay-out and our basic procedures, the students work alongside me, according to a plan we devise together for the best learning experience possible,” says Rome. For many of Rome’s foreign students, this rotation is the first opportunity they have to experience a pharmacy setting. Rome enjoys her time with foreign students for cultural reasons as well. She says, “I love training students from throughout the world, and those born abroad are encouraged to share their cultures with my staff and me. We get very excited when we discuss music, food, customs, languages, and did I say food?” She hopes that after their time with her, students will learn how rewarding a profession in retail pharmacy can be and how enjoyable it is to have the opportunity to help people every day.

Thank You Interprofessional Preceptors
Dr. George MacKinnon
During the 2013 Winter Term, The Roosevelt University College of Pharmacy, Inaugural Class of 2014, began their first Interprofessional Practice Experiences (IPEs). The Interprofessional rotations are unique in many ways, but one of the most significant differences between IPEs and traditional pharmacy rotations is that they are generally completed under the supervision of a non-pharmacist. Our students have been precepted by nurse practitioners at convenient care clinics, medical staff and clergy at hospices, registered nurses at hospitals and staff at long-term care facilities.
All of the facilities and individuals that agreed to accept our pharmacy students, despite the fact that it was something they’d never done, and, in most cases, never even considered doing before we approached them, welcomed our students into their working environments. To this point, the response from both sides has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have our Interprofessional partners to thank for creating a positive educational environment for our students. Therefore, the Roosevelt University College of Pharmacy would like to take this opportunity to thank our Interprofessional Preceptors. We thank them for recognizing how important collaboration among healthcare professionals will be as we look toward improving patient outcomes, and we thank them for sharing their experiences with our students. Company Background
Texwipe is the worldwide leader in contamination control supplies and critical cleaning products including lint free cleanroom wipers, sterile products, Sterile IPA, cleanroom swabs, cleanroom paper and notebooks, adhesive mats and more. It all started in 1964 when Edward Paley invented a product to solve a problem that no one could see. The problem was microcontamination - minute particles that were creating errors on the disk and tape drives of the burgeoning mainframe computer industry. In inventing the first low-lint cloth for cleaning computer equipment, Mr. Paley created a company and invented an industry. In July 2001, The Texwipe Company, LLC was acquired by Illinois Tool Works, Inc. (ITW). Today, Texwipe is a worldwide leader in contamination control products and process materials for aerospace, automotive, biotechnology, food processing, data storage, medical device, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, telecommunications and other industries requiring critical manufacturing environments. ITW Texwipe's broad product line for contamination control includes a complete array of wipers, swabs, mops, cleaning solutions and stationery for use in cleanroom environments. Products include Vertex® and Vectra® ultraclean sealed-border wipers, Pre-wetted wipers, cleanroom swabs, Cleaning Validation Kits, ESD-safe swabs, and TexWrite® cleanroom paper. ITW Texwipe also develops custom products to address specific customer requirements. Headquartered in Kernersville, North Carolina, the company supports global customers with sales offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Manufacturing centers located in North Carolina, the Philippines and China provide the highest levels of quality and manufacturing technology. Texwipe is committed to technology, innovation, and service excellence to provide the most consistent and highest quality products, including the recent launch of the revolutionary Vertex® Cleanroom Wipers and TexQ™ Disinfectant, a broad spectrum disinfectant with 25% more Kill Claims than any other cleanroom quat.

Industry veterans with over 100 years of collective experience lead the quality and manufacturing departments. American Health Packaging is licensed by the Drug Enforcement Administration to package Schedule II to V controlled substances. Product Overview Hospital pharmacies juggle many critical tasks. The top priority is patient safety. Operational efficiency is important too as institutions seek to provide bar-coded medications to enable BCMA in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. American Health Packaging supports this health systems' priority with its growing line of prepackaged unit dose products.
American Health Packaging's easy-to-read bar codes ensure both accurate and easy scanning. In addition, our cartons feature colorcoded labels with “tall man” lettering to more easily distinguish between similar items on the pharmacy shelf. Pharmacy efficiency. Pharmacies are concerned with the timely
processing of orders to supply the proper medications to patients as quickly as possible. Adding a multitude of steps to package and check commercially available products in-house not only slows down this process, it also takes those clinicians away from their core competency - patient care.
Liability management. Packaging products within health system
pharmacies can be met with various distractions in terms of quality systems and process controls. Errors that arise can place the liability on the hospital, as well as the caregivers themselves. Mitigation of risk is key. Purchasing medications from a highly regulated, cGMP compliant company such as AHP shifts some of the burden of responsibility from the health system. Cost savings. In addition to shifting the potential costs of errors, health systems that choose to package onsite must consider other direct costs such as establishing the packaging infrastructure as well as paying the highly trained professional staff to perform, manage and support non-core work.
Market Leadership in Providing Unit Dose Bar-coded to the dose level, our unit dose line continues to grow! The line now contains over 400 SKUs. And, nearly a third are industry exclusives - only available from American Health Packaging in a unit dose bar-coded package format. Our products support all the major therapeutic classes. There are many benefits to American Health Packaging prepackaged unit-dose products: Safety. Companies that specialize in pharmaceutical packaging are
highly regulated and scrutinized by the FDA. Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) compliance ensures that products are packaged in a regulated and safe environment. n LETS KIT Convenience Pack
Fagron has your solution to LETS compounding. The easy-to-use LETS kit from Fagron simplifies the compounding process by offering a convenient package containing all the pre-weighed ingredients! With the simple addition of water, each kit will make 100 milliliters of anesthetic solution. The compact packaging allows the kits to be stacked easily for quick access and inventory control. LETS – a solution of lidocaine, epinephrine, tetracaine, and sodium metabisulfite – is a proven, innovative, safe, and effective option to provide rapid topical anesthesia and is used extensively in ER settings. The Annals of Emergency Medicine published Tetracaine, Epinephrine (Adrenalin), and Cocaine (TAC) Versus Lidocaine, Epinephrine, and Tetracaine (LET) for Anesthesia of Laceration in Children (1995; 25(2): p. 203-205) which reported the duration of anesthesia experienced between TAC and LET during suturing. The study showed no statistically significant difference in efficacy and duration of anesthesia when using LET in place of TAC. By using LETS, concerns over the use of a controlled substance are eliminated and cost is dramatically reduced without compromising patient care. It has been shown to avoid the serious adverse reactions (seizures, respiratory depression, and death) that can occur when using TAC while providing the same level of anesthetic control and duration.
n Drug Shortages
Fagron carries a wide range of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to help get your pharmacy through drug shortages. Our high quality APIs can be used to compound capsules, oral solutions, topical preparations, and parental preparations (USP <797>). Visit our website or call us to check on the availability of various APIs before switching your patients to alternative therapies.
n Increased Resources for Sterile Preparation Compounding
Due to the ongoing need for sterile compounding, Fagron has expanded its resources to provide you with the equipment and supplies you need. We carry Texwipe cleaning and disinfecting products, autoclaves, sterilizers, test kits, equipment and supplies, filters, CleanStep™ Mats, and much more. Company Background Established in 1952, Cantrell Drug Company has a long and successful history. Amidst many changes in the field of pharmacy, Cantrell Drug Company has remained committed to the specific needs of patients. This privately owned and operated corporation is one of the nation’s most advanced sterile compounding and manufacturing facilities. Cantrell Drug Company’s level of excellence is achieved by a dedicated team of licensed Doctors of Pharmacy and Certified Pharmacy Technicians, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Cantrell Drug Company offers both FDA Registered Product Lines and PCAB Accredited Custom Compounded Medications. Cantrell Drug is registered with the FDA, licensed nationwide by state boards of pharmacy and maintains a DEA manufacturer’s license.
Product Overview Every healthcare institution is sure to feel the effects of drug shortages in the coming months; in fact, the amount of drug shortages has more than tripled since 2005. Approximately 80% of these products were sterile injectable medications. The shortages lead to increased cost for pharmacies to meet patient and physician needs, and much of the financial impact is felt in acute care divisions. Cantrell Drug Company offers compounded solutions to many of these drug shortages. We are currently providing many of the “hard to find” products.
Testimonial “ Cantrell Drug Company has been a lifesaver when it comes to drug shortages. A quick e-mail to Cantrell, and more often than not, they are able to provide the needed product. A couple of weeks ago, our metoclopramide injection supply was critically low. Cantrell saved the day by providing what commercial vendors could not. I am confident that the products we receive from Cantrell Drug Company are sterile and accurate because of the rigorous quality control tests that are performed on every batch. It is comforting to know that Cantrell Drug Company will provide a quality product at a fair price.” –– Angela N. Powell, PharmD, Director of Pharmacy, Baxter Regional Medical Center
Quality Control & Quality Assurance Cantrell Drug Company’s FDA Registered Product Lines are produced under a comprehensive Quality System model that supports and sustains robust quality systems consistent with cGMP regulations. These products are produced in an FDA registered facility using current Good Manufacturing Practices. Cantrell’s Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QC/QA) program monitors the quality of Cantrell’s preparations through testing, documentation and continuous quality improvement procedures ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. Cantrell’s PCAB Accredited Custom Compounding Services exceed USP 797 requirements for Pharmaceutical compounding - Sterile Preparations. Our products undergo potency, endotoxin and sterility testing as per USP. Cantrell Drug Company utilizes a formalized QA program, which encompasses all aspects of preparation and testing to ensure accuracy and precision of our custom compounds.
