MEPS Real-Time, Inc. is a leading innovator of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Like so many great American corporate stories, the core intellectual property of MEPS Real-Time® was developed in an airport … on a napkin. Seriously. Recognizing the vital role pharmacies play in safe, quality patient care and understanding that pharmaceutical inventory represents a large amount of hospitals’ operating expenses, two enterprising inventors asked themselves, “How can we better utilize RFID to manage medication challenges in hospitals?” The two concluded RFID technologies would be an indispensable tool for increased visibility of critical pharmaceutical inventory — a Medication Error Prevention System — and MEPS Real-Time® was conceived that day. Today, our suite of Intelliguard® RFID Solutions are used in major medical centers in the U.S. and Canada with a focus on RFID as an enabling technology for pharmacy workflow automation and inventory management systems.

Product Overview

Serious medication errors can occur if the correct medication is not available for patient care. Excessive inventory holding costs, waste of expired medication and unnecessary staff work time can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Intelliguard® RFID Solutions offers unprecedented real-time visibility of critical pharmaceutical inventory to reduce costs through optimum drug inventory management and monitoring of expiration dates, NDCs, recalls, lot numbers, and temperature. Intelliguard® RFID Solutions increase staff efficiency by eliminating manual counting and item-level scanning through automation; improve patient safety through medication error prevention; and enhance diversion prevention with embedded security features. Pharmacy management and administration receive actionable data for evidencebased decision making to control expenditures, increase the overall efficiency of the organization, and ensure the right pharmaceutical inventory is available to meet patient needs.

The Intelliguard® RFID Solutions Include:

• Intelliguard® Kit and Tray Management System • Intelliguard® Inventory Management System • Intelliguard® Vendor Managed Inventory System A recent study with Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego showed significant improvements in medication kit and tray replenishment accuracy and an average 80% reduction in pharmacy reprocessing times when using the Intelliguard® Kit and Tray Management System. In a previous study utilizing an Intelliguard® System for a selection of high-cost medications, Sharp realized an initial inventory reduction of nearly 25% and an additional 17% reduction in average daily inventory over the 14-month study due to reduced par levels, with no expirations or stock-outs.

Features & Options

n Dynamic Sensor Module™ (DSM) MEPS Real-Time® has integrated and brought to production two patented and exclusive DSM™ antenna solutions to provide excellent RFID system performance in a size-efficient, cost-effective form factor. Our patented and exclusive intellectual property allow us to integrate antenna systems into challenging environments. Our Intelliguard® Kit and Tray Management workstations are 83% smaller than the leading competitor, while still providing reliable 100% read rates.

n Next-Generation RFID Smart Tag Development Based on clinical research, MEPS Real-Time® developed and introduced a new Intelliguard® RFID Smart Tag—a full 65% smaller than the leading competitor for specific applications such as kits and trays used by anesthesiologists and other urgent-response healthcare providers. This single RFID Smart Tag works for all medication packaging including syringes, ampules, vials, boxes, and bags (the accompanying photo features our new Smart Tag at work in an anesthesia tray).

Testimonial

“ T he Intelliguard® Kit and Tray Management System has significantly improved accuracy and reduced pharmacy replenishment time from between 5 to 45 minutes to three minutes, even with trays containing more than 120 items. My staff can now focus more on patient care and I have more confidence that important floor stock medication, including many that are used in critical emergencies, are properly replenished.”

— Shannon “JJ” Johnson, Pharm.D., Director of Pharmacy Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego, CA

FDA Registered 503B Outsourcing Facility by Cantrell Drug Company Our experience with cGMP focused policies and procedures along with carefully designed facilities, equipment, training, and testing, provide confidence to our customers in the quality of our services. CEO:

Company Background Established in 1952, Cantrell Drug Company has a long and successful history. Amidst many changes in the field of pharmacy, Cantrell Drug Company has remained committed to a standard of quality that exceeds current compounding standards. Innovation and investment in cutting-edge technology at Cantrell Drug Company is evidenced by being the first in the industry to utilize a Rapid Microbiological sterility testing technology. Cantrell Drug Company is now in the process of being the first in the industry to implement an automated Closed Vial filling system from Aseptic Technologies. Our commitment to quality is readily apparent from our completely autonomous and independent Quality Assurance Department, as well as being the only company in the industry to list our labels with the FDA, and one of the first sterile compounders to register as a 503B with the FDA. Product Overview Cantrell Drug Company is an FDA registered 503B Human Drug Compounding Outsourcing Facility that specializes in providing customized IVs, OR syringes, epidural preparations, PCA syringes, and drug shortage solutions with the highest level of quality. Product lines are compounded under a comprehensive quality system model that supports and sustains robust quality systems consistent with cGMP-focused regulations. Cantrell provides sterile and non-sterile compounded preparations that meet the needs of patients, physicians, clinics, and health care institutions. Cantrell retains state licenses nationwide, a DEA manufacturing license and an FDA registration. When you need Quality, Service, and Experience – trust Cantrell Drug Company.

Drug Shortage Solutions Drug shortages are occurring at historic rates. Shortages lead to increased cost for pharmacies to meet patient and physician needs, and much of the financial impact is felt in acute care divisions. Cantrell Drug Company offers compounded solutions to many of these shortages. We provide a weekly update to our customers informing them about new and high demand shortage solutions. We give our clients a way to “fill in the gap” during their time of need for hard to find preparations. Cutting Edge Technology Cantrell Drug Company was the first to adopt Rapid Microbiological sterility testing. We are once again leading the way in safety and quality as we become the first human drug compounding outsourcing facility to implement Aseptic Technologies’ Crystal® Closed Vial Technology. This technology was designed to increase patient safety by vastly reducing the risk of contamination during the complex filling process used by sterile compounding pharmacies and outsourcing facilities. The new technology simplifies and reduces the risk associated with the glass vial filling process used by pharmaceutical manufacturers. “This technology represents a revolutionary advance for Cantrell Drug Company, as well as for the sterile product industry in general,” said Dell McCarley, Chief Executive Officer of Cantrell Drug Company. “We decided to invest in the Crystal Closed Vial Technology because of the high level of quality assurance it will offer to our customers in the hospital market and, by extension, the patients they serve.” Under the closed vial process, each vial will be assembled in a clean room and sterilized by gamma irradiation before being delivered, ready to fill, to Cantrell Drug Company. A Crystalrobotic system in a SKAN isolator fills each vial by piercing the elastic stopper with a special needle, delivering the liquid, and quickly resealing the opening with the zap of a laser. Vials are covered with a specially designed cap, which health care providers eventually open, to withdraw the sterile medication and administer to patients.

n Every Lot – Not Just the Initial Lot – is Tested •  We do not solely rely upon the USP or manufacturer’s label to ensure the quality of the chemicals received. •  Every lot received is tested using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible analysis, melting point, specific gravity, solubility, and chemical identifications. • Additional testing of APIs is done using actual formulations.

n 14 Checks and Analyses are Performed on Each Chemical Lot •  Nine qualitative and quantitative analyses are performed on every incoming chemical lot before it is released for repacking or sale. •  Each lot is tested against the certificate of analysis (C of A), including: USP, EP, NF, FCC, ACS, and PCCA standards. •  After initial testing, all results are reviewed for accuracy by a second QC analyst. • Chemicals are tested only by degreed Chemical Analysts. n PCCA Rejects Almost 200 Chemical Lots Per Year •  PCCA is fully registered by the FDA, DEA and State of Texas as a manufacturer and follows current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). •  Only FDA-registered and GMP-certified manufacturers are used for the purchase of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). • Exclusive, proven bases and formulas. n Proven Bases for More Patient Options With access to more than 60 proprietary bases – unavailable to other compounders – your PCCA pharmacy will have more options to treat patients, from VersaBase® topicals, specifically designed for compounded HRT delivery, to Lipoderm®, the industry’s only transdermal proven to deliver four drugs simultaneously, to PracaSil™-Plus, our newest base for scar therapy backed by a number of studies showing its effectiveness. n Comprehensive Education is the Key to Compounding Continuing education is the key to quality compounding solutions. Freedom Bases Freedom Pharmaceutical provides high performance, readyto-use compounding bases designed to help our clients provide the most state-of-the art preparations on the market. These bases offer formulation flexibility with stable emulsions, and pharmaceutically elegant appearances. Each Freedom base design begins with extensive research and development followed by absorption, dispersion and other appropriate laboratory testing. Freedom also offers paraben, dye, gluten, fragrance, and petrolatum free base options to meet a vast variety of patientspecific needs. Freedom Base Study Highlights & Conclusions n Lipopen Ultra When tested on split thickness human skin, the Lipopen Ultra formulation showed much grater permeability and more consistent flux over time, than the PLO Gel formulation. The results of this study suggest that Lipopen Ultra provides consistent drug delivery over time without instance of excessive peaks or troughs. It also shows Lipopen Ultra to be a more effective transdermal delivery vehicle than PLO Gel.

n HRT Supreme and HRT Natural Cream Progesterone from both formulations tested, permeated across human skin samples at a similar and consistent rate. There were no statistically significant difference between formulations in terms of flux values, or percentage of applied progesterone that penetrated stratum corneum. This conclusion suggests that formulations in Freedom HRT Natural Cream and Freedom HRT Supreme Cream demonstrate favorable percutaneous absorption of Progesterone.

n Poloxitol The light microscopy analyses indicates that Freedom Poloxitol dispersant is effective at dispersing Itraconazole in purified water, and also results in smaller, more uniform effective particle size, with minimal to no clumping or aggregates. A finer more evenly dispersed particle may increase absorption and efficacy. View the complete studies at: www.freedomrxinc.com/products/ base-studies

FillSafe™ Medication Security for Kirby Lester Robots Kirby Lester's KL60 and KL100 are the safest retail/outpatient pharmacy robots with the new FillSafe™ security system. FillSafe eliminates the chance of dispensing from the wrong cassette. President & CEO: Garry Zage, R.Ph. Founded: 1971 Toll-free Phone:

Company Background Kirby Lester is a leading developer of tablet counters and robotic dispensing technology for community pharmacies. Kirby Lester devices significantly improve medication counting accuracy and reduce labor time associated with medication dispensing. Kirby Lester products can be found in more than 40,000 retail, hospital, specialty, and mail order pharmacies in more than 40 countries. Product Overview FillSafe is built-in peace of mind for technicians and pharmacists alike in retail/outpatient pharmacies. The foolproof FillSafe security system prevents dispensing from a cassette whose refill or return-to-stock was not authorized by a pharmacist. When any medication cassette is removed from the KL60 or KL100 robot, that cassette is automatically deactivated; reactivation is customized on the pharmacist's terms. For instance, the pharmacist in charge can set a certain time lapse for a cassette to be returned to the robot. Or a user can be forced to verify the cassette return with a fingerprint scan on the robot's biometric finger pad. Or the pharmacist-in-charge's fingerprint scan may be required for reactivation. Kirby Lester developed this new technology to prevent a user from bypassing the cassette refill process. Along with the FillSafe security system, Kirby Lester robots are equipped with multiple safeguards, including user fingerprint tracking, NDC barcode verification, 20+ reports for metrics, and keyed cassettes. The KL60 and KL100 robots balance the highest security standards with the fastest dispensing and most hassle-free operation of any pharmacy robot.

Unique Robotics •  Fit your pharmacy without remodeling: The KL60 and KL100 robots have the smallest footprints in the industry. •  Fully automate only what makes sense: The KL60 handles 35-40% or more of a pharmacy's total daily orders, while the KL100 handles 50% or more.

•  Fast operation: Label, count and present orders in about 30 seconds. •  Fast, accurate cassettes never need recalibration. • Inventory control, including narcotics. •  Standard 110v power; no special compressed air or wiring needed. • Maintenance takes just a few minutes per day. • Industry best uptime and support. •  Combines with Kirby Lester’s tabletop counting and verification devices for 100% verification of all orders.

Proven Relief for Pharmacies Kirby Lester's robotic dispensers were found to dramatically boost efficiency and provide an attractive ROI. In a 2014 user survey, Kirby Lester users reported that their KL60 or KL100 robot directly enabled their staff pharmacists and technicians to concentrate on major initiatives such as medication adherence, immunizations, process improvement, and customer care. Full Line of Automation Kirby Lester offers more than just a one-size-fits-all box. We provide you with a full line of pharmacy automation to safely and quickly dispense 100% of medications. We help you choose what’s exactly right for your pharmacy’s unique needs. •  Full robotic dispensing: Compact KL60 (top 60 medications) or midsized KL100 (top 100 medications). •  Eliminate hand-counting: KL1. •  Count and verify every order: KL1Plus and KL20. •  Automate and verify every order, ideal for narcotics and 90-day fills: KL30. MCPHS University Thanks the Southern New Hampshire Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Crowded living conditions, cats, dogs and other animals, shoe boxes filled with medications: these are some of the things that pharmacy and nursing students encounter during their clinical rotation with the VNA of Manchester and Southern New Hampshire. Medication reconciliation is the focus of the elective, but it encompasses much more. The students, along with a nurse or physical therapist, visit patients after they have transitioned from a hospital or nursing facility back to their own home. While the nursing student checks vitals and performs dressing changes, the pharmacy student is reviewing the medications in the home and comparing it to the discharge paperwork.

I played an active role in collaborating with other members of the health care team as they continually strive to improve patient care and increase medication adherence. This experience exemplifies the interprofessional collaboration that is a top priority in today’s healthcare arena.” ‑ MCPHS Pharmacy Student

The VNA gave me the opportunity to witness first hand the significant impact a patient’s home environment can have on their journey back to wellness as they attempt to manage multiple health issues with limited resources.” ‑ MCPHS Nursing Student

Company Background

TCGRx is a leading supplier of pharmacy automation. Our solutions can be scaled from simple packaging technology to enterprise-level perpetual inventory management. That means providing not just the tools to make your pharmacy more efficient, but also the thinking behind those tools. TCGRx provides design and consultation services for solution integration in all pharmacy markets.

Product Overview

The AdherePac™ solution offers a unit dose or multi-med pouch containing all of a patient’s medications for a given pass time. The pouches are automatically generated from our ATP™ Series pouch packager through an interface with your current pharmacy information system. The pouches have a serrated edge and are easy to open, helping ensure the patient takes medications as directed. The AdherePac solution provides the ability to generate reminder pouches for non-oral solids such as inhalers or topical creams, so every medication prescribed is prompted at the correct time. Our ATP is the industry-leading oral solid packager. Engineered to provide better performance and reliability, ATP facilitates both unit dose and multi-med packaging with simple-to-use software. Working in tandem with the SmartTrayRx™, ATP is the only system on the market allowing 100% closed-loop handling of non-formulary medications.

Additional Products n ATP-71 Designed specifically to have a small footprint, ATP-71 allows for 100% automation for all oral solids in 71 fully automated medication canisters and a universal tray located on the top of the unit for all other oral solids. The unit is available to package both unit dose and multi-med pouches. The unit dose model is well suited for bedside barcoding programs, cabinet replenishment, and 30-day boxes. The multi-med unit features one of the largest package sizes on the market. The software is userintuitive and easy to integrate into your workflow process. Canister replenishment is verified by barcode, ensuring accuracy.

n SmartTrayRx™ Working in tandem with ATP™ Series, SmartTrayRx facilitates accurate filling of non-formulary medications through a fully interfaced application that guides the technician to fill the item using light direction. This paperless system also provides user tracking for every step of the process. Most importantly, this patented technology allows your pharmacy to confidently label and fill every pouch accurately without costly reworks. n CompletePac™ CompletePac is a convenient, easyto-handle solution for discharge or LOA patients, offering the best of both worlds – simple, noncommingled, unit dose packaging in one pass time-specific pouch for easy distribution. Daily orders and leave of absences are simplified through our larger pouch option which integrates both oral solids and unit-of-use items for easy check-in and patient handling. Discharge programs benefit from CompletePac by using our “starter” pouches which holds 1-3 days of medications to see a patient through to their next doctor visit. n Graphic Printing Kit With the addition of the new Graphic Printing Kit, your pharmacy can now customize your AdherePac™ pouches to include things such as your logo and horizontal printing. The printing allows for additional fonts, helping to increase efficiency of medication management and pharmacy production with the ability to have more medications per pouch. International letters and symbols, as well as the ability to print text in color, will boost your advantage of packaging over traditional methods.

Company Background

RxSafe began operations in 2008. Many of the principal employees have been innovating together since the early 90’s at such companies as Pyxis, Omnicell and DDN where they have extensively contributed to the advancement of automation in the pharmacy industry. RxSafe’s founder and CEO, William Holmes has authored 50 U.S. patents.

Product Overview

Technology sets our automated strip packager, the RxASP 1000™ apart—offering more than 1000 canisters, it takes oral solid packaging to a whole new level. Our easy-to-use universal canister means there are no more trays or remote filling stations since it can dispense any size pills including split tabs. The RxSafe 1800 is the leader in automated, high-density robotic storage and retrieval of stock bottles. It represents an evolutionary leap in pharmacy automation technology because it goes beyond drawerbased systems. Unlike vial filling robots that hold a small percentage of your formulary, an RxSafe system can hold virtually all of your oral solid stock bottles. When you’re busy, the RxSafe 1800 system really shines. Users report that a single operator can routinely fill at an effective rate of over 100 scripts per hour. If your space is tight, or there’s better use for the space, RxSafe is the solution. In a 3-tower system up to 5,400 stock bottle containers fit in only 40 square feet of space. Join the other independents, chains, hospitals, clinics, military, and institutional pharmacies that have selected RxSafe in the quest for a better pharmacy.

Features & Options

n RxASP 1000 for Adherence Packaging The RxASP 1000™ breaks all the barriers of past strip packagers. Designed with the most versatile “hi-fidelity” pouch printing and the easiest to open “tear anywhere” pouches, it has the highest speed and accuracy in the industry, plus the lowest operating cost.

What really stands out is the huge space savings. Engineered to have the smallest footprint of any strip packager on the market, the RxASP 1000 replaces 10 automatic strip packagers in 80% less space with only one set of inventory and one maintenance agreement. Additionally, our product line includes the RxASP 20™ for entry-level packaging and retail adherence programs. RxSafe provides you with a complete package to guide your patients to 100% adherence. Seven years in development, RxEnsure™ is an additional level of assistance for your patients—outperforming anything on the market. n RxSafe 1800 for Outpatient & Employee Pharmacy Accuracy. Efficiency. Security. With only one technician and one pharmacist, virtually every pharmacy, every day can fill all prescriptions without extra filling staff. And, with one open bottle at a time, there’s less chance for error, no wasted inventory and no narcotics theft. In fact, the RxSafe 1800™ is so secure it’s been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense for CII narcotics storage. With the RxSafe 1800, inventory is 100% accurate because it stores stock bottles behind locked doors and forces workflow at one station without the added expense of other software or hardware. Remote Stock Management is another standard feature of the RxSafe 1800. All pharmacy inventory is managed by the system whether it’s inside or outside the RxSafe. No more audits. No more overstocking or wasted inventory.

Testimonial

“ We selected RxSafe for our strip packaging technology to take advantage of “next generation” automation. We’re enjoying the benefits of state of the art integration, “high fidelity” flexible pouch printing, lower labor and consumables cost, plus higher accuracy in a small footprint. Additionally, RxSafe has excellent customer service that supports our needs.”
