Company Background
RxSafe began operations in 2008. Many of the principal employees have been innovating together since the early 90s at companies such as Pyxis, Omnicell, and DDN, where they have extensively contributed to the advancement of automation in the pharmacy industry. RxSafe’s founder and CEO, William Holmes, has authored over 50 U.S. patents.
Product Overview
Our RxSafe 1800 is the leader in automated, high-density robotic storage, and retrieval of stock bottles. It represents an evolutionary leap in pharmacy automation technology because it goes beyond drawerbased systems. Unlike vial filling robots that hold a small percentage of your formulary, an RxSafe system can securely hold virtually all of your oral solid stock bottles. When you’re busy, the RxSafe 1800 system really shines. Users report that a single operator can routinely fill at an effective rate of over 100 scripts per hour. If your space is tight, or there’s better use for the space, RxSafe is the solution. In a 3-tower system up to 5,400 stock bottle containers fit in 40 square feet of space. Technology sets our automated strip packager, the RxASP 1000™ apart — offering more than 1,000 canisters, it takes oral solid packaging to a whole new level. Our easy-to-use universal canister means there are no more trays or remote filling stations.
Features & Options
n RxSafe 1800 Accuracy. Efficiency. Security. With only one technician and pharmacist, virtually every pharmacy, every day can fill all prescriptions without extra filling staff. And, with one open bottle at a time, there’s less chance for error, no wasted inventory, and no narcotics theft. In fact, the RxSafe 1800™ is so secure it’s been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense for CII narcotics storage and dispensing. With the RxSafe 1800, inventory is always 100% accurate because it stores stock bottles behind locked doors and forces workflow at one station
without the added expense of other software or hardware. Remote Stock Management is another standard feature of the RxSafe 1800. n RxASP 1000 The RxASP 1000™ breaks all the barriers of past strip packagers. Designed with the most versatile “hifidelity” pouch printing and the “easiest-to-open” pouches, it has the highest speed in the industry and the lowest operating cost. Plus, our consumables cost is the lowest in the industry. Why? Automatically and dynamically, the RxASP creates a pouch that exactly fits the contents — saving material and time. No machine configuration required. What really stands out? This is the only strip packager with built-in vision inspection. Designed to be modular and scalable, the RxASP line has the smallest footprint of any strip packager on the market. Additionally, we offer the RxASP 20™ for entry-level packaging and retail adherence programs. n RxWillCall Still searching for the right will call system? RxSafe has the first “full service” solution. The RxWillCall™ features: • One finished goods inventory location. • Secure storage (including narcotics). • Smallest footprint (highest density storage). • Fully automated accurate package delivery and RTS. • Easy put away, fast loading. • Remote kiosk for after hours prescription access. Will call will never be the same again.
Testimonial
“ Our primary goals for making this automation investment were to increase our workflow and inventory management efficiency so we could free up staff to spend more time and attention on clinical services and other revenue generating activities.” — Eric Black, R.Ph., Owner, Mt. Company Background Founded in 1984 by a practicing pharmacist, MTS, an Omnicell® Company, is the leading provider of medication packaging solutions in the long-term care, institutional, and retail markets. The company designs, develops, and manufactures adherence blister cards along with a complete line of automated packaging equipment. Today, the company serves approximately 6,000 pharmacies worldwide and remains committed to developing innovative adherence packaging. In 2012, MTS was acquired by Omnicell, Inc., (NASDAQ: OMCL) a leading provider of medication and supply management solutions, and analytics software for healthcare systems. The combination of Omnicell and MTS has created a market leading company that can integrate medication management across a broader spectrum of care.
Product Overview The OnDemand Express II completely automates the fulfillment of blister cards creating a made-to-order solution for pharmacy customers. This high-speed pharmacy automation produces up to 36,000 single-dose blister cards per week and is designed to maximize workflow, improve productivity, and increase profitability. Now you can grow your pharmacy business without adding additional personnel.
Patient Specific Blister Cards The intuitive OnDemand software fully interfaces with your pharmacy information system, allowing for the production of patient specific labeled blister cards. The operator is able to sort orders in batches by a variety of criteria, including facility, patient, or custom priority codes such as delivery time, delivery route, and time pass. Cards found by the system to be improperly filled are clearly marked “rejected” and are never allowed into the pharmacy inventory.
Pre-Pack Capabilities This versatile machine can also operate drug specific prepackaging with no impact on production. Pre-pack orders are created in card doses specified by you (7, 14, 21, 28, etc.) with full production output reporting for inventory tracking. In pre-pack mode, the system applies a license plate label containing your pharmacy’s critical information. The optional robotic foil print and apply system allows for the creation of return and reuse compatible punch cards, using Omnicell’s Select Seal™ consumable. • Maximize pharmacy workflow efficiently and accurately. • Produces an average of 10 cards per minute. • 24-hour technical support. It’s easy to see why the OnDemand Express II system is trusted by the nation’s largest long-term care pharmacy.
The Express II accommodates an extensive formulary with the ability to store 300 NDC specific cassettes. Additional cassettes can be stored off the device and exchanged on-the-fly while the machine is running, eliminating system inactivity. The automated bar code verification and tracking capability ensures all cassettes are managed by the system and it maintains medication inventory. This allows for on-demand ordering of medications to improve inventory cost savings. WINTER 2015

Company Background
DOSIS® products by Manchac Technologies are designed to enhance efficiencies in your pharmacy. Our products enhance your pharmacy to fill blister type products, as well as manage the workflow and sorting for all your pharmacy’s prescriptions. Led by Randall Murphy and Monroe Milton, Manchac was founded by veteran pharmacy automation engineers, and has over 150 years of collective industry experience. Manchac will continue to leverage their team’s talents and skills to lead an ever-growing pharmacy market serving long-term care and assisted living facilities, while expanding into other pharmacy markets.
Product Overview
Our initial product, the DOSIS® L60, is the leading solution in LTC blister card automation with deployments in 42 different states across the United States, including Hawaii. DOSIS L60 is the benchmark of single-medication 28, 30, or 31-day blister card robotic solutions. The DOSIS L60 is the only compact, affordable robot that fills, seals, and patient-labels blister cards. Our latest product introduction is the fully automated BP198, the first multi-med dispensing robot in the world that seals the blister card within the machine, hands-free. The BP platform is offered in three different models: BP198, BP316, and BP632. A new multi-dose blister card design provides more benefits for your patient and your pharmacy — adherence packaging made easy!
Features & Options
Manchac’s initial product was the DOSIS L60 which fills, seals, and patient labels the typical single-medication blister card. The L60 is capable of filling any day supply into the standard 6" by 9" cards in any order in a 28, 30, or 31-day blister card. Similar to the L60, the DOSIS C60 automates the 3" by 9" cards often used for prescriptions of controlled medications. The C60 is being installed in control rooms in large pharmacies.
New to our suite of robotic products, the BP198 fills and seals prescriptions in adherence packaging — weekly multi-dose cards in a new design featuring a full-color patient information cover leaflet. With three sizes of robots offering 198, 316, or 632 medication canisters in each, you can drive the size of your automation based on the dispensing needs and volume of your pharmacy. These fully-automated, hands-free robotic solutions will make your multi-med dispensing more profitable. n Flexibility DOSIS products improve your pharmacy’s flexibility to meet the needs of your customers. You can set dispensing parameters based on payer type, facility, or prescription data. Utilize the same automation for a variety of customers. • No dedicated staffing needed for DOSIS robots; simple to operate. • Minimum touch times per shift to keep DOSIS robots producing. • Keep up with increases in your prescription volume demand. • Eliminate overtime for filling cards. • DOSIS works while you are not with its ability to fill cards unattended after normal business hours. • On-call pharmacists can log in and send scripts, that will be ready for delivery when they get to the pharmacy. • DOSIS solutions are applicable to all sizes of pharmacies; DOSIS offers scalability at an affordable price-point. n Additional Products • DOSIS C60 automates a smaller 3" x 9" blister card that holds a 15/16 day supply. This smaller format is typically used for shortcycle medication dispensing. • DOSIS cTRAQ removes the guesswork from sorting all prescriptions — get the right script to the right facility every time. • DOSIS mPAQ Printing takes over label printing allowing optimal workflow — reducing waste and time spent chasing labels. Manchac Technologies is committed to providing solutions with positive impacts to your operations!

Company Background Several years ago Don Grove, RPh along with J&D Pharmacy manager, Jennifer Jelinek, started experimenting with workflow to increase speed, accuracy, and employee satisfaction due to decreasing third party reimbursements. With the advent of computerized workflow software, they developed the patent pending SmartFlow Pharmacy Workflow System. Tools include customized RPh and tech work stations, verification racks, inventory carousels, educational iPad kiosks, and urgency colorcoded Rx bundling bags. At the same time, the pharmacy was redesigned to reduce interruptions by patients and to allow for more transparent interactions among employees to get rid of the traditional 50-year-old fish bowl architecture. Product Overview Traditional dispensing is becoming less profitable. Our patent pending solution can double or triple the number of prescriptions filled without increasing overhead, especially wages. We have developed a combination of technology, people, and workstations called the SmartFlow Pharmacy Workflow System. Our goal is to make it achievable for one pharmacist to be able to fill as many as 400-500 prescriptions a day. It involves breaking the dispensing process into various subsets, providing each person in the process with a customized workstation and color-coded bags for prioritizing prescriptions in the workflow. The process is held together with the extensive use of computer technology to track each step of the process, including an educational iPad kiosk for adherence and differentiation from your competition.
Features & Options • Customized filling stations for each technician. • Streamlined pharmacist work stations. • Rotating, vertical inventory carousels with 300 SKU capacity per unit. • Urgency color-coded transparent bundling bags with external pockets for Rx tickets and auxiliary house labels. • Verification racks to hold recently filled bags by time received. • Education center with sit down kiosks and accessible iPad videos that further educate patients on medications, devices, disease states, and attached self-service BP kits. • Redesign options for entry stations, counseling, sacking, POS, and SmartFlow units. These tools, along with proper training and great vendors, allow increased speed, accuracy, and employee satisfaction. Additional Product Lines Short on space? Company Background
Established in 1992, Return Solutions is a pharmaceutical reverse distributor providing services to retail and hospital pharmacies throughout the United States. We also work for some of the nation’s largest wholesalers and manufacturers. Since we were founded, we’ve processed over 70,000 returns and issued over $450 million in credit to our customers. Our focus is on making the process of returning or disposing of prescription and over-the-counter merchandise simple, efficient, and cost effective. By listening to our customers, we learn what they want and need in the reverse distribution process, and we are continually developing new ideas and programs to remain at the forefront of our industry. Our reimbursement programs are designed in direct response to our customers’ needs. The largest issue regarding returns has always been how difficult it is to keep track of credits, and how many manufacturers won’t accept returns directly from pharmacies. Years ago we created a program that allowed pharmacies to return outdated product to hundreds more manufacturers, and virtually eliminated the tedious process of monitoring credits. We were the first company in our industry to write checks to customers for credit and have continued to revolutionize and simplify how credit is issued.
Product Overview
Our OneCheck Select program offers the simplest and most efficient credit reimbursement available. Credit from Return Solutions is issued in a single check, directly to the customer, within 30, 60, or 90 days after a return. Our rate depends on the time frame selected and is an allinclusive percentage of credit issued. There are never any unexpected additional charges for shipping, processing controlled substances, or disposal of non-returnable items. Manufacturer credit values are listed on the check stub so our customers know exactly how much they have received from each manufacturer, virtually eliminating credit tracking.
Features & Options n On-Site Service
Our on-site service is completely turnkey. An experienced representative thoroughly searches pharmacy shelves and pulls short-dated and outdated items. The rep enters each product into our proprietary software to arrive at an estimate and presents the customer with a printed inventory and credit estimate of all collected items on the day of service. Additional benefits include: consultation regarding items with recently released generic equivalents, collection of Schedule II-V items and issuance of all necessary documentation, collection of recalled items, packaging of all items, and prepaid FedEx pick-up shipping.
n Mail-In Service
Our easy and economical mail-in service is completely web-based. Customers create a return online and complete an inventory of outdated products, then print a return authorization and prepaid UPS shipping label. Once we process the return at our warehouse, the return inventory and credit estimate are available on our website.
n Destruction Service
We provide a safe, simple, and approved manner for compounding pharmacies, doctor’s offices, manufacturers, and distributors to dispose of unwanted and unsalable products. Items are transported to an EPA approved, waste-to-energy incinerator where destruction is witnessed by at least two employees. Any hazardous waste is transported and destroyed by EPA licensed firms.
Markets Served
Return Solutions serves all 50 states with our mail-in service and 90% of the U.S. population with the on-site option. We specialize in retail pharmacy but also provide service to hospitals, long-term care facilities, government clinics, doctor’s offices, surgery centers, and animal health facilities.

MCPHS University Thanks Saumil J. Patel., PharmD. Saumil J. Patel graduated from MCPHS University with his PharmD degree in 2007 and has developed a successful Medication Therapy Management (MTM) service for Walgreens in Roslindale, Massachusetts. He is currently the District MTM Leader for Walgreens in the Boston district. He is energetic and passionate about providing MTM throughout his tenure at Walgreens and has been an advocate of changing our culture to relational from transactional. The formation of Medication Therapy Management has been the niche of his practice. He realizes as the pharmacy profession continues to evolve, and as pharmacists keep pushing to become recognized as health care providers, MTM will very likely prove to be at the foundation of such growth. Saumil is offering MCPHS University students, both IPPE and APPE, the opportunity to be involved in MTM delivery while completing community rotations. He also offers a specialty APPE elective rotation in MTM and depending on the ability of the APPE student, to be involved in the completion of the entire MTM case. Utilizing pharmacy students and offering the students the opportunity to practice MTM will benefit not only a pharmacy and its MTM-eligible patients, but it will also help pharmacy students learn and be able to utilize MTM in their future. MCPHS University would like to thank Saumil for his dedication to providing students this MTM rotation opportunity.

The PREP Team PREP • Providing Practice Experience for Pharmacy Students School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo
Thank you Co-op Supervisors, 4th year Patient Care Rotations Preceptors, and Bridging Program Preceptors! Thank you for hosting and supervising our pharmacy students. Assuming the role of preceptor can be an immensely rewarding experience for pharmacists and the students they teach. We understand that your primary responsibility is caring for your patients and that teaching takes time. Many preceptors find that working with students is a superb way to continue their own education, as explaining, demonstrating, and critiquing a student reinforces what you know, uncovers what you don’t and provokes you to rethink your day to day practice! We want to thank you again for your support and involvement. Without you, we could not offer these important experiences to our Waterloo Pharmacy students!

Company Background Medi-Dose/EPS was founded in 1971 when Milton Braverman, a former pharmaceutical company territory manager, saw the need for inexpensive, manual unit dose packaging. He developed the Medi-Dose System to package, handle, and dispense predetermined amounts of medication so they would be accessible for one regular dose. Because of the continued success of the Medi-Dose System, Medi-Dose/EPS expanded its product line to include a full line of compounding supplies, disposable products, liquid packaging, labeling, and oral syringes designed specifically for the pharmacy professional. We pride ourselves as being the “old friend of the family” and have long standing products designed to meet the needs of your retail, community, and compounding pharmacy.

At PCCA, we help pharmacists and prescribers create personalized medicine that makes a difference in patients’ lives. PCCA is America’s leading compounding resource for high-quality products, education, and support. What began in 1981 as a small network of pharmacists is now almost 4,000 members strong, with 360 employees worldwide and five distribution centers serving the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Product Overview
For patients suffering from chronic, recurrent, or resistant sinus conditions, LoxaSperse can be a real game changer. That’s because this innovative powder excipient base for nasal nebulizations and irrigation compounds was created to go right to the desired site of action. Here’s how: n Improved Drug Delivery • LoxaSperse is used for intranasal formulations directly targeting sinus problems, in contrast to oral medications, which have to circulate throughout the entire body and may not adequately deliver the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), and may create potential for systemic side effects. • Its proprietary blend of xylitol and poloxamers reduces particle size and increases the solubility and dispersibility of APIs, potentially enhancing drug delivery and absorption. n More Effective and Simplified Process • It’s ideal for multi-drug therapy because it’s dispensed as a powder, which minimizes any drug compatibility and storage/stability concerns that come with water-containing bases while helping practitioners better target their patients’ specific conditions. • As a powder preparation, it’s typically dispensed in convenient capsules that are more portable than liquid solutions, so it’s easier for patients to stay compliant with their regimens. • Additionally, the powder/capsule preparation provides a longer beyond-use date and requires neither refrigeration nor preservatives.
• Topical delivery to the nasal and sinus cavities when reconstituted. • Reduced particle size of APIs. • Increased dispersibility and solubility of APIs. • Enables multi-drug therapy. • Preservative-free. • Prolonged beyond-use date. • Easy to store and carry. • Antimicrobial synergy possible, as well as action against biofilms.
The proof is in the powder.
LoxaSperse has been validated via extensive third party in vitro testing:
• When mixed with LoxaSperse in suspension, the particle size of itraconazole was reduced from 30 microns to 18.645 microns.
• LoxaSperse formulated with itraconazole reduced the minimum
biofilm inhibitory concentration (MBIC) tenfold compared to that of itraconazole alone.
• Testing against eight microbial strains has shown that LoxaSperse
alone in solution at a concentration of 17 percent or above stopped the growth of all the microbial strains tested.
• Water activity testing performed on LoxaSperse alone as a dry powder concluded that no microbial growth was possible as bacteria cannot grow when water activity measures < 0.60.

Company Background
Eagle Analytical Services, a PCCA company, is the only testing company dedicated to the unique needs of compounders, working exclusively with 503A compounding pharmacies. Since 2004, we have been helping compounders ensure the safety of compounded preparations, for the health of their patients and their business.
Develop a Potency Program
Undeniably, one of the most important considerations in a compounding pharmacy’s procedures is quality. Developing a comprehensive quality control (QC) potency program must begin with the most basic activities performed at a compounding pharmacy to the most crucial activities. We at Eagle have established a three-step method to setting up a QC potency testing program in your pharmacy. Here is step one (of the threestep method). To get your free copy of this article, which includes all three steps, visit bit.ly/testing-with-eagle.
Step One: Process Design
You may wonder how process design comes into a discussion on quality testing. Very simple. You cannot test quality into your preparation; you can only test it into your process. If the process isn’t designed right in the first place, all the testing in the world won’t make it better. So before you start testing, whether it’s inhouse or outsourced, make sure that you have a well thought out and documented process. Let’s explore where poor quality originates, or the outcomes we are trying to prevent. There are two overall causes of poor quality: 1. Process Variation: When the process does not give the intended result, then you have a process variation. Such variations range from the process having a “fundamental error,” where even if it were performed exactly as documented the results would not be acceptable, to “small” variations, which are not sufficiently documented to indicate their criticalness.
2. Mistakes: Regrettably, compounding mistakes are a reality. Random mistakes are almost impossible to detect by less than 100% testing, and unfortunately, they often lead to the most detrimental effects in quality. However, if we realize that these problems exist, there are ways we can design a process to make it somewhat “mistake proof.”
Make No Mistakes
C. Martin Hinckley has written extensively in the pharmaceutical literature about the role of mistakes in the production of drugs. Hinckley assumes that we will make mistakes, and it’s up to us to design systems and processes that make it impossible, or at least difficult to make them. Here are three examples: 1. Check the Color: Preparations that could be confused, as with multiple concentrations of the same active, are often prepared with different colored caps. 2. Make Checklists: Have you ever noticed that even a veteran airline pilot uses a checklist to make sure that he has not forgotten something before taking off or landing? Maybe because his life also is at risk if he makes a mistake that has something to do with his diligence. How many times have you seen a compounder using a checklist when compounding? Or is it, “I’ve made this 100 times before, I know what I’m doing,” that prevails? 3. Simplify the Process: Taking a complex process and breaking it up into several smaller and more manageable sub-processes often can help in reducing the fatigue that can lead to mistakes.

Company Overview
Development Analysis Associates, Inc. (DAA) was established in 1975 in Cambridge, MA, by a group of MIT faculty and students. It has a distinguished record in providing computer systems analysis and design services to a variety of clients in both the private and public sectors. Since the late 1980’s, our primary focus has been serving the pharmacy industry. In 1984, DAA was commissioned by the National Association of Retail Druggists (NARD) to develop an entry-level pharmacy management system for their membership. NARD marketed that product under the name ScripWriter, with DAA providing technical support for the first two years. The knowledge of the pharmacy industry that we gained by working closely with so many distinguished pharmacists proved invaluable in launching our own product, SuperScript, in 1987. Within a few years, there were SuperScript users in nearly every state. Our newest entry, Visual SuperScript, was introduced in 2001. Building on the experience of ScripWriter and SuperScript, and utilizing the most sophisticated programming tools available, we have been able to develop a far superior product that compares very favorably with any of its competitors.

From humbler beginnings, when desktop computers packed far less computing power, VS has been tweaked and enhanced through constant interaction among users and developers, to the point where it’s one of the most powerful, yet easy-to-use, systems available. Best of all, you get this incredibly featureladen system at an even more incredible price. That is why pharmacists most familiar with VS refer to it as a “Cadillac at a VW price.” Working with the most advanced tools enables us to be most responsive to our users’ needs. While customizing labels, reports, MARs, pricing schemes, etc., is a routine matter, we even developed an elegant (and permanent) solution for a frustrated user, some of whose elderly patients
had non-matching birthdates listed with the primary and secondary payers. It was all covered by his software maintenance, of course. For day-to-day support, our powerful Remote Assistance software enables our support staff and expert programmers to be virtually sitting beside you looking at your screen and lending a helping hand. Get instantaneous on-site service whenever needed, all year round, for a fraction of the cost of a single service call.

Testimonials
“ We installed the SuperScript turnkey systems in both stores. The extra support offered by DAA staff during the conversion (at no extra charge) made the transition painless. It has been over a year since we went live in both stores. I am happy to confirm that everything I had heard about SuperScript was indeed true. Some of my friends who decided to go with the big-name systems now wish they had decided to go with SuperScript.” — Cosgrave Pharmacy, Silvis, IL
“ SuperScript is much more intuitive than any other pharmacy software I have seen or used. The staff at DAA is very open to suggestions and has implemented some of my suggestions. I have seen software retailing for a great deal more that does not offer the functionality nor the flexibility of SuperScript.” — Frank Fratea R.Ph., Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, NH
