Company Background
RxSafe began operations in 2008. Many of the principal employees have been innovating together since the early 90’s at such companies as Pyxis, Omnicell and DDN where they have extensively contributed to the advancement of automation in the pharmacy industry. RxSafe’s founder and CEO, William Holmes has authored over 50 U.S. patents.
Product Overview
Our RxSafe 1800 is the leader in automated, high-density robotic storage, and retrieval of stock bottles. It represents an evolutionary leap in pharmacy automation technology because it goes beyond drawerbased systems. Unlike vial filling robots that hold a small percentage of your formulary, an RxSafe system can securely hold virtually all of your oral solid stock bottles. When you’re busy, the RxSafe 1800 system really shines. Users report that a single operator can routinely fill at an effective rate of over 100 scripts per hour. If your space is tight, or there’s better use for the space, RxSafe is the solution. In a 3-tower system up to 5,400 stock bottle containers fit in 40 square feet of space. Technology sets our automated strip packager, the RxASP 1000™ apart—offering more than 1000 canisters, it takes oral solid packaging to a whole new level. Our easy-to-use universal canister means there are no more trays or remote filling stations.
Features & Options
n RxSafe 1800 Accuracy. Efficiency. Security. With only one technician and one pharmacist, virtually every pharmacy, every day can fill all prescriptions without extra filling staff. And, with one open bottle at a time, there’s less chance for error, no wasted inventory, no narcotics theft. In fact, the RxSafe 1800™ is so secure it’s been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense for CII narcotics storage and dispensing.
With the RxSafe 1800, inventory is always 100% accurate because it stores stock bottles behind locked doors and forces workflow at one station without the added expense of other software or hardware. Remote Stock Management is another standard feature of the RxSafe 1800. n RxASP 1000 The RxASP 1000™ breaks all the barriers of past strip packagers. Company Background
DOSIS® products by Manchac Technologies are designed to enhance efficiencies in your pharmacy. Our initial product, the DOSIS L60 is the leading provider in LTC blister card automation, and the only compact affordable robot that fills, seals, and patient labels blister cards. Led by Randall Murphy and Monroe Milton, Manchac was founded by veteran pharmacy automation engineers who are experienced in the design, development, manufacture, service, and support of pharmacy automation products. Manchac owns more than 100 years of collective industry experience within an ever-growing pharmacy market, serving long-term care and assisted living facilities.
Product Overview
DOSIS® L60 is a robotic solution for completely automating prescription filling, sealing, and patient labeling of 28, 30, or 31-day single medication blister cards (a.k.a. bingo-cards) in a physically compact enclosure. The L60 has the capability of filling a day supply into the card in any order. This solution offers unbounded value to pharmacies in need of higher prescription throughput without extra staffing. The L60 operates hands-free which allows your pharmacy staff to continue their work while DOSIS produces prescription labeled blister cards. DOSIS is the most cost effective automated blister card prescription packaging in the market. DOSIS has the capacity to run continuously for up to four hours unattended before restocking empty blisters. To minimize impact to pharmacy floor plans, the unit is a similar in size and shape to a vending machine or shallow refrigerator (26" L x 42" W x 78" H). An L60 can hold 60 unique medication containers at a time, which allows for the addition of extra containers in rotation based on your medication formulary needs. Each medication container has a capacity of 1000cc. DOSIS is typically installed and operational in a single day, and making an impact to the pharmacy’s card production in the first week.
n Flexibility DOSIS improves your pharmacy’s flexibility to meet the needs of your customers. You can set dispensing parameters based on payer type, facility, or prescription. With the ability to use the same automation for a variety of customers, you can now grow your business without the fear of outgrowing your automation. • No dedicated staffing need for DOSIS, it is simple to operate. • Typically only 45 minutes to one-hour of touch time per eight-hour shift to keep DOSIS producing. • Keep up with an increase in your prescription volume demand. • Eliminate overtime for filling cards. • DOSIS works while you are not with its ability to work after normal business hours. • Stop pre-packing cards, DOSIS does on-demand! • On call pharmacists can log in and send scripts that will be ready when they get to the pharmacy for delivery. n Additional Products • DOSIS C60 automates a smaller 3" x 9" blister card that holds a 15/16-day supply. This smaller format is typically used for shortcycle medication dispensing. • DOSIS cTRAQ removes the guesswork from sorting prescriptions. Get the right script to the right facility every time. • DOSIS mPAQ Printing takes over label printing allowing optimal workflow which reduces waste and time spent chasing labels.

CASE STUDY
Leading Specialty Pharmacy Puts Patient Safety and Satisfaction First While Reducing Costs Pharmacy Advantage implements TransTracker® F temperature indicators and revisits packaging to reduce reships and associated costs, while also improving patient satisfaction.
Goals Pharmacy Advantage’s goals were to:
Daniel Kus B.S. Pharm., RPh, VP of Ambulatory Services for Pharmacy Advantage
About Pharmacy Advantage Pharmacy Advantage provides pharmaceutical delivery services to some 18,000 patients in the U.S. With this, they fill 1000 prescriptions per day, 60% of which are specialty pharmaceuticals. Thirty percent of these specialty medicines are temperature sensitive.
Temptime Corporation temptimecorp.com 22
•
Give patients added peace-of-mind and increased confidence in the integrity of specialty pharmaceuticals using an objective, easy-to-understand yet scientific temperature monitoring device
•
Mitigate potential health risks resulting from patients taking compromised medicines, and support the ability for patients to take medicine as prescribed
•
Reduce costs associated with patient inquiries to pharmacy/manufacturer about the safety of specialty medicines exposed to extreme heat or cold
•
Minimize waste resulting from unused medicine and the need to reship due to uncertain temperatures during the “last mile” of transport
•
Maintain and improve patient satisfaction and performance ratings to support URAC, Medicare STAR and JCAHO accreditations
Study and Investigation According to Kus, the results of the pilot study were compelling to Pharmacy Advantage. •
49% of respondents said they’d been concerned in the past about the temperature of medicine delivered from a specialty pharmacy, whether being too hot or too cold
•
60% reported being worried specifically about heat damage
•
Over 95% of patients agreed that a company including a temperature indicator with medicine shipments shows a concern for their safety
•
97% of patients wanted the TransTracker temperature indicator to be included with all of their medicine shipments
Challenge The Pharmacy Advantage team holds regular Quality Assurance (QA) meetings to review customer feedback. It was during one of these sessions that patient concerns about the temperature of shipments began to emerge. “We review both positive and negative comments in each meeting,” said Daniel Kus, VP of Ambulatory Services for Pharmacy Advantage. “We noticed that over a six month period, from spring into summer, we were receiving more and more calls from patients wanting to know if their medicine was still good.” The concerns arose, Kus noted, because packages might be delivered later on a hot summer day or left on the doorstep when no one was home. As a result, patients were unsure if the medicine would still be considered effective. “There seemed to be a gap in the last mile, and we didn’t have the scientific data to make a confident recommendation to the patient,” explained Kus. “There was also no formal process in place to address temperature concerns, so of course we’d end up replacing the product.”
Solution Based on the findings of the QA meeting, as well as conversations they had recently had with Temptime, Pharmacy Advantage decided to participate in a pilot study along with four other specialty pharmacies. In this study, Temptime’s TransTracker® F temperature indicators were added to the packages of temperature-sensitive medications being delivered to patients with chronic diseases. Patient preferences and insights were then measured and analyzed. “We want to be proactive, whether that involves making improvements to software, shipping, operations or patient satisfaction,” stated Kus. “We saw the pilot study as an opportunity to find out what more we could be doing – not only to benefit the patients we serve, but also to potentially make an impact on our bottom line.”
“Patients want to know someone is looking out for their best interest,” Kus explained. “Using the TransTracker temperature device just shows our customers that we are committed to their overall health and safety because we are listening to what they are saying and paying close attention to the important details.”
As a result of the study, Pharmacy Advantage did some further investigation into various temperature indicators on the market. They ultimately chose TransTracker based on their experience with the pilot study and patient feedback. “TransTracker is easy for our patients to read,” Kus noted. “It’s a patient-friendly device, and when we include it with our patient instructions, they can quickly and easily determine the integrity of the shipment on their own. It’s a simple solution to a potentially complicated and expensive problem.”
temptimecorp.com Temptime Corporation 23
CASE STUDY Packaging At the same time they began to move forward with implementing Temptime’s temperature indicators, Pharmacy Advantage had an opportunity to meet with Cold Chain Technologies (CCT), a thermal packaging supplier. As a Temptime business partner, CCT provided a complementary evaluation of their packaging, which Kus described as an ancillary benefit of the pilot study and engagement.
“Before this implementation, during the
“During this process, we learned instantly that many specialty pharmacies use a completely incorrect packing process, putting freeze packs into the shipping container and returning the package to the freezer,” said Kus. “This practice, we discovered, could freeze the product and cause damage before it is even sent out.”
than cut that in half - to less than 1%.”
Implementation In 2013, Pharmacy Advantage began including TransTracker in all heat-sensitive or perishable pharmaceutical items delivered to a patient’s home. Additionally, the company made improvements to their shipping materials and packing processes. “These combined initiatives support Pharmacy Advantage’s goal of best practices in the last mile of shipping,” Kus said.
Results Not long after implementing the temperature indicator, 450 Pharmacy Advantage medication recipients participated in a survey. A solid 97% said that they prefer a specialty pharmacy that uses the TransTracker indicator in its shipments. They also reported that the indicator enhanced their confidence in the security and effectiveness of their prescription medication.
spring-summer period, we were sometimes looking at a potential 2% of packages returned and resulting reshipments,” Kus stated. “We’ve more
Kus went on to note that eliminating just one compromised shipment more than covers the cost of temperature indicators for an entire year. With the average specialty pharmacy shipment valued at $2000 per month, and some as high as $5000 to $10,000, the financial payback alone is a significant incentive. “Beyond the cost of the medication, any disruption in patients taking medicines as they are intended is of major concern to both us and the health plans,” he said. “We don’t want to see clinical outcomes reduce, or ER visits and hospitalizations increase as a result of last mile problems that temperature indicators can simply and effectively address.” In addition to patient safety and cost savings, Kus cited a number of other benefits – including URAC, Medicare STAR and JCAHO accreditation as well as maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction to strengthen relationships with payors and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Future Based on the success of adding temperature indicators to shipments and improving packaging, Pharmacy Advantage is planning another study. In this case, they will be including a time and temperature monitor inside a select number of specialty pharmacy shipments that will record and transmit a temperature reading to Pharmacy Advantage every 15 minutes.
97% of medication recipients said that they prefer a specialty pharmacy that uses the TransTracker® indicator in its shipments*

Temptime Corporation temptimecorp.com 24
“We want to map the journey of shipments over different seasons and with different packing materials to study where freezing or overheating might be occurring,” Kus explained. “Understanding the temperature profile over the entire last mile and then learning what we can do to keep the medication as stable as possible is our next challenge.”

PCCA provides member pharmacists and prescribers more products, education, and support than any other organization. We have been the innovative compounding leaders for more than 30 years, developing new industry changing bases and equipment. With studies to back up our quality products, we are proud to have helped compounders solve some of the toughest patient challenges. Product Overview
n PCCA LoxaSperse™ Go right to the source of chronic, recurrent or resistant sinus problems with this exclusive PCCA base for intranasal compounding. This innovative powder base for nasal nebulizations and irrigations was created to make it easier to deliver the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) directly to the desired site of action, while being more convenient for patients as well. n Improved Drug Delivery • LoxaSperse is used for intranasal formulations directly targeting sinus problems, in contrast to oral medications, which have to circulate throughout the entire body and may not adequately deliver the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), and may create potential for systemic side effects. • Its proprietary blend of xylitol and poloxamers reduces particle size and increases the solubility and dispersibility of APIs, potentially enhancing drug delivery and absorption. n More Effective and Simplified Process • It’s ideal for multi-drug therapy because it’s dispensed as a powder, which minimizes any drug compatibility and storage/stability
concerns that come with water-containing bases while helping practitioners better target their patients’ specific conditions. • As a powder preparation, it’s typically dispensed in convenient capsules that are more portable than liquid solutions, so it’s easier for patients to stay compliant with their regimens. • Additionally, the powder/capsule preparation provides a longer beyond-use date and requires neither refrigeration nor preservatives. n Benefits • Topical Delivery to the Nasal and Sinus Cavities When Reconstituted • Reduced Particle Size of APIs • Increased Dispersibility and Solubility of APIs • Enables Multi-drug Therapy • Preservative-Free • Prolonged Beyond-use Date • Easy to Store and Carry • Compatibility with the NasoNeb® Nasal Nebulizer Among Other Nasal Nebulization/Irrigation Devices
The Proof is in the Powder
LoxaSperse has been validated via extensive third party in vitro testing. • Optimized Particle Size • Antimicrobial Activity • Antifungal Activity • May Improve Activity of APIs Against Biofilms • Very Low Water Activity • Positive Safety Profile For full studies, visit pccarx.com/loxasperse.

Additional Products
n InspectRx™/Collector™ InspectRx gives pharmacies the confidence of knowing that their AdherePacs™ are accurate while increasing the throughput of the checking process. Pills are verified by identifying 12 physical characteristics and highlighting potential issues for pharmacists. Pharmacies can track erroneous pouches and missing meds back to the source with an archived database of the front and back image of each AdherePac scanned. Adding the Collector enables the rolling, cutting and taping of each patient or medication strip, vastly improving the speed of preparation for delivery.
n CompletePac™ CompletePac is a convenient, easy-to-handle solution for assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, offering the best of both worlds – multiple unit-dose packaging in one pass time specific pouch for easy distribution. Daily orders and leave of absences are made simple through our larger pouch option that integrates both oral solids and unit-of-use items for easy check in and easy patient handling. n Beacon® Inventory Management Beacon is a full inventory management system that supplements a pharmacy’s current process. Beacon is unique – tracking total pill quantity, inventory on hand, and usage. Additionally, Beacon provides bottle-specific information, including quantity and expiration date tracking. Using our unique barcode scanning and light-guided pick and put process, Beacon can direct technicians to fill scripts following the priority of open bottle first, shortest expiration date second. Beacon can also manage your will-call with DeliverRx™ using the same barcode and light-guided system. n PharmLoc™ Control and At-Risk Medications (ARMs) are securely stored and managed with PharmLoc. With access restricted to specified users, software controlled electronic locks require authentication for entry either through use of biometric scanning, personal token scanning, or password and login entry. The system tracks all activities, providing detailed documentation and auditing of all ARM related events, and includes who and when users accessed an ARM drawer. PharmLoc utilizes Beacon High-Density (HD) drawers – configurable for a few drawers, or an entire cabinet, and is easily integrated into the existing Beacon workflow.

Company Background Associates of Cape Cod, Inc. (ACC), is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of products developed to detect and quantify gram-negative bacterial endotoxins and (1g3)-ß-D-glucans. Our products are used worldwide by leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies to ensure the safety of their parenteral drugs, biological products, and medical devices. Our goal is to provide the best products and services, as well as the best technical support and customer service, in our industry to enhance the productivity and efficiency of all our customers. We are ISO 13485: 2003 certified, our laboratories are FDA inspected and DEA licensed and our Beacon Diagnostics® laboratory is CLIA certified. Product Overview Associates of Cape Cod, Inc., (ACC) is pleased to introduce Pyrosate® a new FDA licensed version of our rapid endotoxin detection kit. Pyrosate is well suited for performing endotoxin assays in full compliance with the Bacterial Endotoxins Test, USP chapter <85>. Pyrosate has been developed as an easy-to-use Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) gel-clot test that enables rapid testing and does not require special laboratory supplies. The easy to follow, step-by-step illustrated instructions allow the user to set up assays within minutes. In addition to FDA licensure, the Pyrosate® Kit is now available in sensitivities of 0.03 EU/mL, 0.125 EU/mL and 0.25 EU/mL, in both 10-pack and 30-pack formats. With the introduction of this licensed version, in addition to research and water testing, Pyrosate is ideal for dialysis centers, compounding pharmacies, pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
Performing the Test
The Pyrosate® kit is a rapid gel-clot test that contains a 2λ* endotoxin tube (PPC) matched to the sample (SPL) tube for each sensitivity. This feature is unique to the Pyrosate assay. The endotoxin tube (PPC) assures that the sample does not interfere with the test, ruling out false negatives. Pyrosate is formulated to eliminate false positives due to (1g3)-ß-D-glucans. This endotoxin specific reagent does not require additional blocking buffers.
Reconstitution Pyrosate® is reconstituted directly with the sample by adding 0.5 mL to the sample tube (SPL). After approximately 60 seconds of gentle mixing, 0.25 mL is transferred to the endotoxin tube (PPC). The lot-specific incubation time at 37±1°C is given on the Certificate of Compliance. Stability Pyrosate® is stable at room temperature and does not require refrigeration for shipping or storage. Product Applications • Hemodialysis • Water and Water Systems • Filter Industry • Research • Final Product Release Product Benefits • Shorter Assay Time • Endotoxin Specific • No Dilutions Required • No Refrigeration Required • Matched Positive Product Control * λ (lambda) is the lowest concentration of endotoxin to cause a positive test result under standard conditions.
