SPRING 2015 ART MASTHEAD DESCRIPTIONS Ryerson Folio is hiring for Issue 4 that is set to publish in April 2015. Our magazine is known for its aesthetic and high-quality work. We are looking for people that will be able to uphold that standard and bring new ideas to the table. Please see below for descriptions of each available position. Art Director The Art Director reports directly to the EICs and is responsible for the overall photo, layout and visual direction of the magazine. They will develop a cover for the magazine in addition to ensuring that the artistic direction of the magazine matches its editorial content. They will work closely with the Assistant Art Director, the Photo Editor, Illustrators and Photographers. The Art Director should have a strong background in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and other design programs. Assistant Art Director The Assistant Art Director will be responsible for helping the Art Director with his or her responsibilities. They will be assisting with the direction of layout and photography. The Assistant Art Director should have a strong background in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and other design programs.
Photo by Joseph Hammond Designers Designers will be directly responsible for the layouts and graphics in the magazine. They will work closely with the Art Director and Assistant Art Director. A designer’s job is to produce work that will match the magazine’s editorial content while simultaneously creating something that will define the magazine’s aesthetic. Designers should have a strong background in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and other design programs. Illustrators Illustrators will work under the direction of the Art Director. They will provide visual concepts of stories and showcase a variety of techniques and styles. Skill in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are highly recommended. Photographers Photographers will work closely with the Photo Director and Art Director. In some cases, the photographers will have to travel with the writers to take photos for a specific piece.
