Ryerson Folio is turning five this year! To celebrate reaching this milestone, we look forward to expanding our team and our vision. We are excited to provide the community with a publication designed, written, and produced by Ryerson University students. Ryerson Folio hopes to build a creative and hardworking team to produce a thoughtful and engaging publication. If working with Ryerson Folio interests you, please email us at ryersonfolio@gmail.com with the following information. Currently, we’re looking for section editors to round out our masthead. Check out the attached pages for section and job descriptions. In addition to answering the following questions, please attach your resume and 2-3 samples of your work. The examples do not have to be published, but they must pertain to the role you are applying to. URLs, PDFs, and word documents are acceptable forms of submissions. Sections and Responsibilities Section editors are responsible for pitching stories on a weekly basis. These stories must have a Ryerson angle. Editors will assign deadlines, maintain frequent communication with the Folio team, and ensure that the publication maintains a high standard of quality. You must have at least one year of undergraduate studies completed in order to be a section editor. Please state in your application which section you are applying to. Sections include: - Arts - Fashion and Lifestyle - Business - Fiction We’re also looking to hire editors for the following: Ideas Section: The Ideas section editor will have the same responsibilities as other section heads, but will oversee opinion pieces, reviews, personal essays, and feature stories. Podcast Editor: The podcast editor is responsible for co-hosting, planning and producing bi-weekly topics, finding stories and brainstorming ideas, and booking guests. This person has some experiencing hosting and editing, or is willing to learn, is excellent at researching, and passionate for finding a good story. This person will be working with a co-editor.
Head of Photography: The head of photography is responsible for pitching ideas pertaining to all things photography. They must be present at meetings in order to pitch photo ideas and be prepared to assign photographers. They must have experience using Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and a keen eye for photojournalism. This person will also be in charge of managing the Photobooth section, which includes photo essays. Head of Copy: The head of copy is responsible for managing a team of copy editors and fact checkers. They will assign deadlines, ensure pieces are copy edited and fact checked properly and in a timely manner, and communicate with section editors. The ideal candidate has experience copy editing and fact checking, and is extremely comfortable with CP Style. Head of Marketing: The head of marketing will help increase awareness of Folio within and outside of the Ryerson community to attract readers and contributors. They will be responsible for managing Folio’s social media presence and coordinating marketing campaigns and initiatives. Ideally, this person should have marketing and communications experience, and a proven track record with using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We are also looking for someone who is creative, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
