Crafters Bazaar

Words: Sheila Curzon

Last July Transition Chesterfield ran their first Crafters Bazaar on Chesterfield market. It was very successful, attracting many artists and crafters from the local area to sell their surplus art and craft materials. Stall holders and visitors all agreed that it was a great success and there were calls for another Crafters Bazaar.

The good news is that it has been announced that there will be another Crafters Bazaar on the main market in Chesterfield on Sunday 21 May 2023 between 10am and 4pm.

Stash Busting

Any artists or crafters who have a large stash of materials e.g. fabric, yarn, paper, card, beads, buttons, threads, crafting tools, art and craft magazines and books who want to have a clear out are welcome to book a stall for just £10. Contact: craftersbazaar@transitionchesterfield. org.uk for an application form. If you don’t want a stall this time, put the date in your diary so you can come and buy some things to add to your own stash!

Chesterfield Bowling Club: Open Days

The Chesterfield Bowling Club has a special place in the history of bowling and the history of Chesterfield. It is a place to be enjoyed and preserved for future generations of residents.

The club is holding a series of Open Days on 15 and 29 April between 11am and 1pm where anybody interested in joining or enjoying a game

It’s not a craft fair selling finished items. It is the place to buy and sell surplus art and craft materials.

Transformation Challenge

This time a new feature will be the Transformation challenge open to all artists and crafters. You don’t need to have a stall or pay to join in. The challenge is to take one old pillowcase and transform it into something else either useful or decorative. Use your artist and crafting skills and your creativity to make something original. There will be a display area at Crafters Bazaar on 21 May to showcase all your creations.

The aims of Crafters Bazaar are to encourage repurposing, upcycling, recycling and keeping things either from languishing in boxes forever or going to landfill.

For more information on Crafters Bazaar and/or the Transformation Challenge see below (advert opposite).

Chesterfield Crafters Bazaar on the green will be welcome. The club has a special membership rate for members in their first year at £60. Thereafter the membership fees are £120 together with a £2 green fee or £170 without the green fee which subscriptions enable the green and club surrounds to continue to be kept in excellent order befitting of its history. dave.meakin83@googlemail.com or alanbostock4@hotmail.co.uk
