John Travolta says Scientology ‘not understood’, targeted because it ‘works’
John Travolta has defended Scientology by explaining why religion is targeted by critics. The 61-year-old actor said that it is often scrutinized mostly because it’s not understood and added that his advice is that people really need to take time and read a book, E! Online reported. The outspoken Scientologist suggested that people could read New Slant on Life or Dianetics and he thinks if they really read it, they’ll understand it, but unless they do, they’ll speculate, which is a mistake to do. As per Travolta, Scientology has become such a target for critics because sometimes when something really works well, it becomes a target. Earlier the ‘Face/Off’ star offered an explanation when he was asked about HBO’s critical documentary ‘Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief’ that he believed that the decidedly negative documentary was a product of people who were disgruntled with their experiences with the religion, but for him personally, Scientology has been nothing but brilliant.
Ryan Gosling in talks to star in ‘Blade Runner’ sequel
Daniel Craig raked-in 3.3m pounds for showing off phone in ‘Skyfall’
Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talking terms to star in the sequel of classic sci-fi film ‘Blade Runner’ alongside Harrison Ford. The sequel which has been gestating for years will see original director Ridley Scott to executive produce the project, the Verge reported. The 34-year-old actor will be reprising his role as replicant bounty hunter Rick Deckard and Ford wouldn’t be the star of the film. The sequel is being directed by Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve and the shooting for the movie will commence in summer of 2016.
James Bond’s Daniel Craig earned 3.3 million pounds for just holding a mobile phone in the movie ‘Skyfall.’ Leaked Sony Pictures emails showed that he got the fee from the firm’s electronics division for using their Xperia mobile in the movie, the Mirror reported. With the product placement a success, Sony wanted a similar deal for ‘Spectre,’ but emails showed rival Samsung offered tens of millions more to provide 007’s phone. But movie bosses negotiating a new deal for the next Bond film tried to cut the actor out to save cash, writing “NO Daniel this time”.

Brangelina hoping to adopt seventh child? Actor Angelina Jolie and husband Brad Pitt are reportedly planning to adopt a little Syrian girl as their seventh child. The star duo already have Cambodian-born Maddox, Vietnamese Pax, Ethiopian Zahara, biological daughter Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. A business associate, who has known Pitt and Jolie, has been quoted by the Daily Express as saying: “She has been moved to tears on several occasions over the plight of youngsters orphaned in the Syrian conflict. Now she has sorted out her health issues, she and Brad believe the time is right to adopt another orphan from there, most likely a daughter.” The 39-year-old actress had a surgery last month to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes and two years ago had a double mastectomy after learning she carries a gene mutation which greatly increases the risks of developing breast and ovarian cancers.
Rita Ora will continue to star in ‘50 Shades’ sequel as Mia Grey
Kate Moss set to sell ‘homemade jam’ at Glastonbury Festival
Rita Ora will be reprising her role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ sequel as Christian Grey’s sister Mia. Even though she had just few lines it the film, Sony Pictures emails released by Wikileaks indicate that the 24-year-old singer will continue to star as the hot short haired sister to Dornan’s character for the next two instalments, the Mirror reported. The news comes after, director Sam Taylor Johnson, who praised the finger calling her a “firecracker,” exited the project post clash with writer E.L. James. Though Ora was criticised for her 90 seconds role, she had hit back saying people were bound to have their own opinions but it was a great cameo which had opened the door to a lot of movie roles.
Kate Moss is taking a jam stall to Glastonbury festival this summer as she plans to sell homemade spread, it has been revealed. A source said that the 41-year-old supermodel has been making damson, blackberry and gooseberry jam for some years to give away to friends, the Mirror reported. The insider added that Moss, who is planning to sell jam at the event with her 12-year-old daughter Lila manning the stall, has always had aspirations of one day being a lady and has told friends that she would like to donate proceeds to a charity. As per the source, Moss will make it the beginning of charitable works that can contribute towards her good name.

Antonio Banderas ‘still loves’ former wife Actor Antonio Banderas has admitted he still has feelings for his ex-wife Melanie Griffith and insists the pair are still good friends. “Obviously, it has been a year full of changes. Sometimes in life the circumstances make you wreck everything to build it again. Things come naturally, people are not bad or good, no one is going to be the good guy or the bad guy during a breakup, things come to an end naturally.” “It’s been tough, a long time relationship is now broken. But well, we have changed our status. I still love her very much and we still have a good friendship,” Banderas told Colombia’s Caracol TV, reports femalefirst.co.uk. The pair were married for 19 years before Griffith filed for divorce in 2014, citing irreconcilable differences. To help move on with his life following the split, Banderas is planning on moving to London to study fashion at St. Martin›s University.

Natalie Dormer ‘doesn’t care’ what people think Actress Natalie Dormer says she is not worried about other people›s opinions. The “Game of Thrones” actress believes the key to survival in the showbiz industry is not to worry about The 33-year-old star admits her viewpoint has come along with age as she is much more “comfortable” with who she is now. “That’s the difference between being a 33-year-old woman and in your teens. You know who you are, you’ve gone through a lot to feel comfortable with who you are. Then for a while you pretend you don’t care, and you still do. I think your early 30s is a very empowering age for women, you get your priorities in the right order,” she said.

A Class Apart
minent dancehall reggae musician Sean Paul bedazzled the masses as he performed at Klub 360, Elite Crystal Hotel during the F1 weekend in Bahrain. Having dabbled in various music genres, his love for reggae stands staunch and he reveals interesting facts and details about his journey in the music business. Sean Paul›s international profile rose significantly in 1999 when he teamed up with Mr Vegas and DMX to record “Here Comes the Boom” for the film Belly. Having collaborated with artists such as Beyonce and Blu Cantrell, Sean Paul has been the recipient of many prestigious awards throughout his career. What made you get into music? At the age of 15 I had this dream of becoming a producer. But my mom wanted me to finish studying so I pursued hotel management in college. During my third year, I was so heavy into making music and things just sky-rocketed from there. That was the beginning of my musical career. What do you like most about the music industry? In show business, there’s something new to do every single day. You can hardly ever get bored and I really enjoy this diversity, gives me enough room to be creative and come up with something new every time. What did you think of Bahrain? I like events that bring people together, and Bahrain seems to be organizing many such events so it’s a great place to be in. I was supposed to be in Bahrain for the longest time and it felt amazing to finally be in the Kingdom, the people are very welcoming. What are your views about Reggae music and its future? Reggae music has always been the heartbeat of Jamaica. The international scene might not be booming but there are Reggae artists coming up every day, it is a way of communicating and telling our story through music in Jamaica. There are various genres that come up every day, and you just need to appreciate the diversity while loving your own roots. What advice can you give aspiring artists? Realize that you have a particular talent and pursue it from the heart. Make sure
your work has quality and stands out from the rest. What are you working on? I spend a lot of time in the studio right now, making songs to put into the next album. I’ve even started producing so plenty of exciting collaborations and new tracks are in the pipeline, with artists from the mainstream music scene as well as those from Jamaica. Who is your favourite artist to hang out with? Definitely has to be Rihanna, because she came to Kingston, Jamaica and mingled with the locals, tried the local food and partied with us in the clubs and it was cool to see her hanging out with us on the streets. A lot of people question your lyrics, sometimes deeming them gibberish. Tell me more about them. The lyrics were never a problem in Jamaica because we speak Patois there, which is an English-based Creole language with West African influences. It was hip to put your thoughts into the street language so the young generation could connect with you instantly. It wasn’t an issue until the music went international, and then I started improvising and using simpler English words in lyrics. At the same time, I want to balance it enough for fans back home and around the world. MAY 2015

Art-Spect
W
hat started as a childhood hobby has now developed into a career choice for talented young artist Fatima Al Samahiji. She is a striking example of Bahrain’s creative youth, and her interests revolve around fashion design, arts and crafts as well as interior design. A year ago Fatima started her start-up business of handmade cards titled Fatoom’s Cards and she has received tremendous response from customers and supporters. Your artistic expressions are wide and varied. Tell me more about how you developed your love for art. I was exposed to art ever since I was a little girl. My mother is an arts and embroidery teacher. I grew up around a lot of art and it always fascinated me. Naturally, I picked up the family flair and started making cards for the family. Soon after, I was encouraged to make cards more commercially.
What message can you give startup entrepreneurs? Work hard to achieve your dreams, and don’t let an outsider’s opinion bias your passion for what you love. As long as you are passionate about art, you will succeed. Have you ever met with skepticism? Yes, in certain cases. People often ask me why I pursue different art forms instead of concentrating only on one. It is art after all, why should I limit myself to one variation?
How has the response been? I received a lot of good feedback about the cards, especially in exhibitions, and that encouraged me to start making more. I want to establish this more tenaciously as a brand in the upcoming years. Which are your best-selling cards? People are more attracted to water colour hand-painted cards. I’ve noticed that layering with materials is not what grips the attention of the people, it’s the handpainted water colour cards that sell the best. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? I see myself as a fashion designer and an artist, and to expand my handmade cards business.

Oriental fusion Aalaat
Success Story
T
he homegrown “Oriental fusion” band Aalaat has caused Bahrain’s music scene to sit up and take notice since its debut a year ago. Sabaya Magazine discusses their style, philosophy, and future plans with them in this exclusive interview.
What does “Aalaat” mean? It’s the Arabic word for “instruments”, since our music is purely instrumental; we do not have vocals. Who are the Aalaat members? We have Sayed Bahban, from the Basque Country in France, on the oud, flamenco guitar, and Persian sitar. There is Maxeem Meraki, from Bahrain, playing the Greek bouzouki and guitar. Omar Quraishi, of Bahraini-Pakistani origin, plays the Indian tabla, Spanish cajon, djembe, and darbuka. Aalaat also features special guests, such as the talented cello player Jehad Al Halal, to participate in the Aalaat project which aims to stimulate collaborations between musical artists in Bahrain. How would you describe your music? Our intention is to explore the encounters between the traditional eastern and contemporary music genres. We take a very universal approach to music; we are not limited to a specific region or to a specific genre. We like to say that our genre is “instruments”, and each of us plays according to our own musical traditions. The oud plays the Arabic scales. The bouzouki plays Greek and Celtic scales. The table follows the pure classical Indian
rhythms. We also play flamenco and world rhythms. What sets Aalaat apart from other bands? We are proud of the fact that we are one of only two or three bands in Bahrain who never do covers; all our music is original compositions. How did Aalaat begin? In the beginning, we were playing purely for our own pleasure. We were approached by BohoBaha team Khalil Rasool and Tarik Omar to play for one of their events done in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, since then we’ve basically been busy playing gigs and before we were known as Aalaat, we were Trio Aalaat. So main credit goes to BohoBaha for giving us a platform to come in right when we are barely ready to perform. A few months down the road, is when RedBull spotted us and offered to launch us on their platform globally, which was an overwhelming experience, the amount of publicity, coverage and what not, name it. Boho Baha and Redbull are two platforms which really helped us, encouraged us and believed in us and pushed us to continue sailing towards the direction for which we as a band set our selves out. Our first gig was a showcase event at our Band mate Syed Bahban’s apartment on his birthday and the feedback
we received, we realized that people really needed what we had to offer. The event felt deeply spiritual and our audience was on a natural high after hearing our compositions. They came and told us that our music contained so much honesty and sincerity, and that they’d never heard anything like it. This drove us to pursue more gigs and ultimately hopefully play at festivals. What motivates you to create music? Today’s young people are brought up on a diet of mainstream pop culture, and they are confusing noise with music. We want to play the kind of music that will inspire them. We wish to present music that is true to our origins and feels much more truthful and authentic both interms of musical thinking and skill. What can we expect next from Aalaat? There is a studio album on the way. Omar is occupied with other musical projects and Maxeem is working on a solo album, which is slowing us down a little bit, but we have started recording and expect to be finished in three to six months’ time. However, our priority is always to be a live band, and we want to play at festivals. You can find Aalaat on Facebook at www. facebook.com/aalaat.band

January Jones
The actress wore a Prabal Gurung Fall 2015 tuxedo inspired jumpsuit, offering a contemporary take on androgynous tailoring, with alluring twists imbued by the plunging neckline and sheer panels at the waist. While I love the cut of this jumpsuit, a part of me wonders if the look would’ve been better with cut-outs rather than the sheer panels. Making the look feel effeminately classic, she styled the look with nude pumps. 20

Vanessa Hudgens
The actress opted for Alice + Olivia again, this time selecting a beautiful botanical print crop top and ball skirt from the Spring 2015 collection, which is a true celebration of the current season. As much as I love a twist, I couldn’t get on board with the leather jacket; it feels so cumbersome with her two-piece look. Perhaps if had it also been cropped it would’ve worked better.
Glitz & Glam Rebecca Romijn
The actress made a graceful welcome return to the red carpet wearing Vera Wang Collection. Grabbing my attention with its rich purple colourway and silk chiffon fabrication, this gown makes a flowing statement with the elegant draped detail and alluring silhouette. With a gown this breathtaking not much else was needed, just a cuff and amethyst earrings to complement that hypnotic hue. For those starved of glamour, does this look hit the spot?
Blake Lively
I think her colour-block Roksanda Lockwood dress and coat from the Resort 2015 collection is easily her best look which she styled with Christian Louboutin ‘Front Double’ Silver glitter and gold specchio detailed pumps. Chic, sophisticated and modern; it’s hard not to fall in love with this outfit. You guys didn’t like her premiere looks, so I am guessing you might be in agreement. I hope to see more exciting looks like this on her promo tour.

Scarlett Johansson
Although it doesn’t appear to be the case, Scarlett opted to eschew the classic evening dress for Balmain wide leg jumpsuit from the Fall 2015 collection. I love how the theatrical proportions of her jumpsuit were matched by the dynamic print which embodies the brand’s free-spirited, bold aesthetic. Even with the boyish long-on-top, wraparoundpartial-buzz-cut, Scarlett’s look was ultra feminine, sexy and modern.
Zoe Kravitz
Zoe’s Balenciaga PreFall 2015 LBD saw her returning to familiar ground with her favoured colour, black. Pared down from the lookbook, she styled the structured leather dress simply with black strappy sandals while pulling her braids into a ponytail. A barely-there makeup palette softened the edges to round out this minimalistic entrance.

Wedding gown trends for 2015
We count the 7 hottest trends in the world of wedding couture runways.
1. Light-As-Air Ball Gowns Ball gowns are taking on a softer look thanks to breezy fabrics and a more relaxed silhouette. (Marie Antoinette would be jealous!) Designers including Vera Wang, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier and more all went with a lighter approach this season. 2. Modern Minimalism Bling will always have a special place in our hearts but some of this season’s most inspiring looks are tailored with clean lines. This Americana aesthetic is ideal for the bride who wants to be comfortable yet chic on her wedding day. 3. A Cut Above Cut-outs and crop tops are trending not just for the big day, but also for pre-
24
May 2015
wedding events like the bachelorette party and bridal shower. This risk-taking style first came to our attention back in the fall, when trendsetter Hayley Paige debuted a gorgeous lilac version, and now more designers like Theia and Houghton Bride are following suit. 4. Ultra-Dramatic Necklines Looking for something a little more unique than strapless or sweetheart necklines? High-neck styles and plunging V-necks were equally prominent at shows including Rivini, Marchesa, Kenneth Pool and more.
5. Sheer Magic We were mesmerized by optical illusions like bodice netting (to look like skin) and overlays. Keep the look PG-13 by opting for one or the other — not both. Reem Acra, Watters and Carolina Herrera all toed the
line between sophisticated and sexy this season. 6. The Cold Shoulder We spotted more off-the-shoulder styles than ever before and it›s no wonder why: they›re sexy yet romantic and above all, supremely figure-flattering. This sleeve treatment creates a triangle shape and whittles the waist. Maggie Sottero, Jenny Packham and Romona Keveza all featured this style at their runway shows. 7. Color Code Who says you have to wear white? Blush was a favorite with girlie brides last season, but this season›s rainbow of gowns included more unexpected choices like pistachio at Monique Lhuillier, silvery purple at Kelly Faetanini and more.

Wedding Hair Tips For Spring 2015
W
edding season is approaching quickly, and it is definitely the ideal time to start thinking of the perfect hair do for the big day. Celebrity hair stylist, Asgar Saboo always advises that you experiment a little before deciding on that final look. From the timeless up-do to some stunning curls, Asgar has compiled an assortment of bridal styles for Spring 2015. Timeless up-do The first thing you need to do before opting for any up-do is set your hair. you’ll give extra body to your hair and smooth any fly-aways at the same time, so that you’re starting fresh with polished strands
Directions: Start on one side of your head and curl a section of hair that is around two inches thick. Roll into a pin curl and hold in place with a duckbill clip. Notice that the curls are going in the direction away from your face. Continue curling and pinning. You’ll ultimately create your five rows of pin curls around your head: One on each side of your head, then one next to each of those sections and one directly in the centre of your head. Keep the curls in place for at least 15 minutes. Pull out the pin curls and comb through your hair with your fingers to shape the curls.
26
May 2015
To get your hair completely ready for the up-do, pin your bangs or the front section of your hair back to help shape this section of hair, or to make it easier to go back to this section to style later. Curly Down-do Before starting the curling process, make sure you’ve found the right hairspray and mousse for your hair to give it that extra wedding glam. Directions: Start with wet hair, and brush in a nice handful of mousse, concentrating on the ends and bottom layer of my hair (since the bottom layer is next to the warmth of your back, and has the weight of the rest of your hair on it, it usually doesn’t hold curl as long as the top layers). Then blow dry, being sure that it is completely 100% dry. Any wetness left will just make your hair not curl as well, so give it a minute or two of blow drying after your hair has dryed Once hair is completely dry, clip up the top layers, so that only the bottom is exposed. You want to be sure you’re getting all the layers evenly curled, and it’s much easier to grab them if the higher layers are out of the way Take about 1 to 1.5 inch section of hair, and lightly spray it with hairspray. Again, this is something you’ll want to experiment with, if you have more delicate hair, and your curling iron is turned up too high, this could cause
burning. Finally, after spraying the section of hair, quickly wrap it around the curling iron. Don’t grab the bottom of your hair with the iron and curl up, as this will just concentrate the curl at the bottom, and it will go flat more quickly. Instead grab the strand of hair with the iron about half way up, twisting the iron in your hands, and work your way down until the end is wrapped around the iron, and hold for a minute or two. Braided Up-do Medium to long, curly or wavy hair works best for this style: You’ll want the ends of your hair to curl up and around the bun Directions: Part your hair as desired. Don’t define your part past the crown of your head. On one side, separate your hair into three sections at your hairline and begin French braiding until you reach the nape of your neck. Complete the same process on the other side. When you reach the nape of your neck, combine the two braids and complete the braid so that it becomes one braid when it’s below the nape of your neck. Secure the ends with a ponytail holder. Twist the braid and hide the ends so it looks like a bun. Secure it to your head using bobby pins. Spray everything with a light finishing spray

Look Fabulous in your photos!
W
edding makeup tips to look fabulous on in your pictures (and on the aisle, of course!) Simply say ‘I do’ to the following bridal make-up rules and prepare to wow. Make sure you have your trial at least three weeks, but no more than 5 weeks, before your wedding. If you plan on using fake tan for the big day, have a test run before your make-up trial so that your artist can see what colour your skin becomes with the tan. Wear a white t-shirt if you’re having your make-up test in a store so that you can see how the make-up looks against a pale colour and take a picture of yourself in day light (with no flash) to see how it looks before you purchase anything Emphasize your eyes by brightening any darkness under them with corrector and concealer Bring references to your make-up trial.
Start looking for images of make-up that you really like and bring them with you on the day. Try to identify what it is you like about the make-up in the image and take into account that if you have the skin colour of Dita Von Teese then the make-up of Kim Kardashian won’t necessarily translate onto you Remember that bridal make-up needs to have enough colour to compensate for the whiteness of the dress. There’s a big difference between everyday clothes and a wedding dress, so there should be difference in your make-up, too. Start by making sure your skin looks even and smooth, and then add colour to your cheeks and lips to give them a glow. Use individual eyelashes – they’re a brilliant way to make your eyes stand out and look far more subtle than a full strip. Go for differing lengths to create a really natural fluttery look and nestle them in between your natural lashes rather than fixing them on top
Focus on the most important elements of your look, such as beautifully natural-looking skin, softly groomed brows and feathery lashes. If you get these basic factors right the rest of your make-up will fall into place Research application methods as they might differ slightly from your everyday make-up routine. INGIE Spring/Summer 2015 Collection
A wish for summer, long days of vacuity followed by elegant cocktails. The seaside somewhere on the Riviera or in the Palm Springs surroundings Soaked with sun, some beautiful women get ready somewhere between a bathroom and a boudoir, sharing a few secrets and some authentic laughs. The sun is already coming down after a hot day, they need to pick a dress that is flowy and colourful at the same time to echo the incandescence of the passing day while magnifying their figures. Further down, the shimmering mosaic of the swimming pool reflects the sunrays that gently accompany the jingling of Martini glasses being shared. The latters are being prepared by spotless waiters wearing their immaculate outfits.

The night is going to last, worryless and cheerful, as light as a feather, a timeless moment of that splendid summer. This is precisely what this Spring/Summer 2015 collection by Ingie Paris is all about and that was translated, among other things, through prints, often flowery with strong colours. The attention is also drawn onto guipures, giving a sexy edge to the garments but still in a very elegant way. So as to be ever more sophisticated, they come in strawberry red and are embellished with embroideries. Small plastic details are skillfully added to give a shine to some outfits which make them very modern. The silkcrepe displays an uncomparable flowiness and a sophistication that flatter the silhouette.

1. Peles Castle
The Peles Castle is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional tourist attractions in Romania, boasting a fabulous architecture and a rich heritage. The castle can be found near Sinaia in Prahova County, nestled within the majestic Carpathian Mountains. This fantastic landmark was built by King Carol I of Romania between 1839 and 1914, and it was meant to serve as the monarch’s summer retreat. The cost for this incredible undertaking was quite enormous, since the construction project required approximately $120 million in today’s currency. Nowadays, the Peles Castle is a very important museum that houses a vast collection of arms, armor and art pieces.
2. Bran Castle
Also known as Dracula’s Castle, the Bran Castle can be found in Bran, in close proximity to the important city of Brasov. This majestic structure is commonly regarded as the home of the famous MAY 2015

Dracula character brought to life by Bram Stoker, but its history is much more comprehensive than that. Actually, the first written mentioning of Bran Castle dates all the way back to 1377, when Louis I of Hungary allowed the Saxons of Brasov to build their own stone keep. In 1920, the Bran Castle was an official royal residence and ended up being the favorite retreat of Queen Marie.
3. Neamt Citadel
The Neamt Citadel is perhaps one of the most impressive citadels in Romania, and it can be found in the northeastern part of the Country, in close proximity to Targu Neamt in Neamt County. This imposing yet elegant structure was built in Moldavia in 38

the 14th century, when Petru I of Moldavia was in charge. The first mentioning of the Neamt Citadel was on February 2, 1935, when Sigismund of Luxembourg led an expedition to Moldavia. The structure was constructed using river stone and quarry stone, and it features a defensive ditch that separates it from the rest of the plateau.
4. Palace of the Parliament
The Palace of the Parliament is a recordbreaking building that can be found in Romania’s capital – Bucharest. This massive structure was designed by Anca Petrescu and flaunts 12 stories, 4 underground levels as well as a total floor surface of 3.7 million square feet. Finished in 1997, the Palace of the Parliament is a fine example of
neoclassic architecture, but it does feature multiple design elements borrowed from other sources.
5. Transfagarasan
The Transfagarasan is one of Romania’s most exceptional roads, and it can be found in the Southern Carpathians, between the cities of Sibiu and Pitesti. The road stretches for 60 miles from north to south, and it runs through some of the highest peaks in the country, including Moldoveanu and Negoiu. Built between 1970 and 1974 by Nicolae Ceausescu, the road was meant to provide quick and easy army access across the mountains in the event of a Soviet Union invasion. This means that the road was constructed using a military workforce,
Travel and it is estimated that its building process claimed the lives of 40 men.
6. Transalpina
The Transalpina is a road that can be found in the Parang Mountains in Romania, and it is currently the highest road in the country. The road connects the Novaci city and the Sebes city, and it runs across 4 counties as it traverses the mountains from south to north. Since it is an alpine road, the Transalpina is closed off during the cold season. There are numerous hypotheses regarding the origins of the road, each being quite controversial in its own way. Some say that the road was first build by the Roman legions during their wars with the Dacians, while other sources state that the road was paved by the Germans during World War I.
7. Turda Saltworks
The Turda Saltworks represents a very important tourist attraction in Turda, Romania. This place was a very important salt source ever since the times of the Roman Empire, but salt mining was
particularly popular between the 15th and 17th century, especially during the Hungarian occupation of Turda. In 1932, the Turda Saltworks officially went out of business, mainly because of obsolete technologies and low salt yield, but also because of increasing competition. In 2009, the Turda Saltworks was the subject of a massive restoration project that was completed in January 2010. Nowadays, this place flaunts its own amphitheatre, treatment rooms and a fantastic salty lake that has extraordinary curative properties.
8. Ice Hotel at Balea
The Ice Hotel at Balea can be found in the Fagaras Mountains of Romania, and it is definitely one of the most original and appreciated holiday destinations in the country. The Ice Hotel is open for business exclusively during the cold season for obvious reasons, and it features a different theme every year. The hotel itself is being rebuilt each year using locally sourced materials such as giant ice blocks taken from the nearby Balea Lake.

Restaurant Review
True flavor of Rome Discover culinary jewels of Rome at Rialto, Ramee Grand Hotel and Spa
40
May 2015
Restaurant Review Visit Rialto located within the five-star
property of the Ramee Grand Hotel and
Spa to experience Italian cuisine like never before!
Gourmands and food adventures will
be able to relish the true flavours from
Rome with the ‘Discover Rome’ promotion
running from May 1 to June 15, heralded by Italian chef Andrea Pietravalle.
We at Sabaya were thrilled to get a
sneak preview of the culinary delights from the set menu of the promotion, and were
greeted by the lovely assistant marketing
manager of the hotel, Cynthia, Restaurant Manager Mr. Bhaskar, and Chef Andrea Pietravalle.
Rialto is adorned with images and
ornaments reminiscent of Italy, the most striking ones being the Vespa models
nestled atop the kitchen and seating area.
Guests can choose between eating indoors and outdoors.
The menu offers a selection of starters,
pasta, main dishes and desert. Chef Andrea explained that Roman cuisine combines simple ingredients for the best flavour,
unlike conventional Italian cuisine that
everyone knows in Bahrain and everything is made from scratch. Different variations of cheese are used as well, moving the
spotlight away from the Parmesan variety.
We were first served with three different
types of pastas: Amatricana, Carbonara and Cacio E Pepe.
Each pasta victual has its own distinctive
flavor and unique presentation. The
Amatricana consisted of fettuccine pasta tossed in fresh tomato sauce, beef bacon
and pecorino cheese, and you can taste the
individual flavours of the meat, tomato and cheese.
The Carbonara, a classic staple, was
my favourite among the lot because of the
creamy texture. Cacio E Pepe was spaghetti with cream, black pepper nestled in a bowl of baked pecorino cheese, you can’t get enough of the flavor!
For main course, we were served with
slow cooked ox tail in tomato sauce with a side of mashed potato, sprinkled with
cocoa powder, pan-fried lamb tenderloin in Mediterranean herbs with a side of
home-cooked potato chips and slow-
cooked cuttlefish with green peas. I cannot pick a favourite, all three were absolutely delectable.
Chef Andrea filled us in on a bit of trivia
and explained the name of the lamb dish,
Abbacchio Scottadito, translated to “burnt fingers” in Italian because people used to
eat the meat with their bare fingers in olden days.
No matter how full you might be after a
meal, dessert is mandatory! Maritozzi Con
Panna, traditional sponge cake stuffed with fluffy whipped cream, provided the happy
ending that evening. You can easily mistake the cake for bread because of its shape but it is far from it.
Rialto emanates a homely atmosphere
while simultaneously providing a fine
dining experience. The Discover Rome
promotion is one that cannot be missed!

Techno Talk New MacBook 2015
It’s so, so thin and light
Apple’s new Macbook is all about style, while still combining it with oodles of power. This is apparently the ‘notebook redefined’ according to the Cupertino brand, and it certainly does push the envelope in one area: the lightness of this thing is insane. The specs are pretty goshdarn good as well, with the new Macbook coming in at just 13.1mm thin and weighing 2 pounds (or 900g). That’s insane when you consider there’s a battery in there which has 35% more capacity than previous models, and also offers up to 9 hours of web browsing too. The new notebook comes with a 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.4 GHz, 8GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300. If you want to turn the power up a little, then you can go for 1.2 GHz dual-core option, with Intel Core M processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.6GHz, 8GB of memory, 512GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300. The new Macbook is so light you could mistake it for a half-empty sheaf of papers. The force touchpad is cool, with levels of
clicks that aren’t really there. That’s to say that the more you press down, the more levels of haptic you hit - it’s a cool idea but one that requires some sensitivity. I played with it trying to fast forward through a video with different levels of sensitivity - I got quite adept within seconds, but it did require concentration. The lack of any port bar the USB-C connector for HDMI, power and, well, everything else, is a bold one. Initially I was saddened by the loss of so many ports, but if it makes the new Macbook this thin, I’m all over it.
Early verdict
This is a great design from Apple, bringing a 12inch laptop with a Retina display and stunning lightweight chassis for not much in the way of compromise. It comes in silver, gold and space gray, all of which look really neat (space gray really is classy) and man... this thing is so light.
Techno Logic Latest Gadgets and what you will love about them! Huawei P8 Max
Some phones are too big, then there’s the P8 Max
It’s difficult to fully understand the reasoning behind the launch of the Huawei P8 Max smartphone - I say smartphone because with a 6.8-inch display it should really be called a tablet. Huawei maintains that the P8 Max is still very much a phone, although it pushes the idea of a phablet to its very limits. This isn’t the first supersized smartphone from the Chinese firm, the Ascend Mate and Mate 2 both had 6.1-inch screens, while the newer Mate 7 dialled things down slightly with a 6-inch offering. The mammoth 6.8-inch sports a full HD resolution, while 3GB of RAM lines up alongside Huawei’s own octa-core processor to provide a decent slug of power. A 13MP camera sits on the rear, while the front facing snapper comes in at 5MP - plus there’s a microSD slot which doubles as a second nanoSIM tray. Huawei has managed to squeeze all this into a frame which is just 6.8mm thick, and thanks to the handset’s massive size it also boasts a 4,360mAh battery.
Early verdict
There’s plenty of screen real estate on offer and the massive battery inside the Huawei P8 Max means you’ll get a decent amount of performance from a single charge. Thing is - do you really want to be lugging around a device this size everywhere you go? Huawei says it’s still pocketable - but only if your pockets are deep, and wide. The Huawei P8 Max will only appeal to a tiny proportion to the market, and even then it’s likely to still have an uphill battle to win people over. It feels like a step too far.

Techno Talk SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive 3.0
A Flash drive that can be used for both PC and Android Tablets As a Droid User with a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, I find that transferring files is always a nuisance. Partially because I primarily work on a Mac, but also because I find the software that is used to pair my Droid to my computer is just awful. The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive is a great way to mediate the challenges of transferring files to and from your OTGenabled Android device. You just plug in the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive into your Android, or Windows/Mac OS X computer, and transfer files. On the Android, the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive mounts automatically and you can access files from the device directly or copy them locally. On a computer, the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive pops up just like a normal flash drive, which allows an easy drag-and-drop methodology to transferring files. The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive is a small thumb drive with a slider that
enables you to switch between a USB 3.0 connector and Micro-USB connector. When I say small, I mean small, as the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive itself measures only 0.43 in x 0.78 in x 1.44 in (11mm x 19.8mm x 36.6 mm). The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive comes in three different sizes: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The cost of the different models won’t hurt your wallet.
Final verdict
The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive is a cool device, but it may not be worth purchasing if you’re not an Android enthusiast concerned with file transfer speeds. Just be mindful of the drive’s cheap build and, understand that what you’re purchasing is a luxury item and not a necessity. With all of that taken into consideration, it probably makes sense for you to purchase one: it can be bought for as little money as a movie ticket and it may just come in handy one day.
Pentax K-S2
Pentax continues to nip at the heels of Canon and Nikon in the DSLR market, and the K-S2 has quite a bite Ricoh/Pentax introduced its new K-S2 relatively quickly after the K-S1 came out. However, despite the similarities in name, it’s not a replacement for the K-S1 – instead, it sits slightly above it in Pentax’s range. Internally, it shares a lot of the K-S1’s specifications, but much of the camera’s physical design and usability has been reworked. Pentax claims that the K-S2 is the world’s smallest and lightest weatherproof camera, which should make it capable of resisting the odd rain shower or two – particularly useful for landscape and street photographers. Another first for Pentax is inbuilt Wi-Fi and NFC, which can be used in conjunction with a free Image Sync app available for iOS and Android to both control the camera and download shots taken with it for quick uploading to social networking sites and the like. The K-S2 has quite a small grip when compared with other cameras of its kind. However, it still feels pretty comfortable in the hand, with a small indent allowing your middle finger to rest nicely. The sensor is the same one you’ll find in the K-S1: a 20-million pixel APS-C sized sensor which features a maximum sensitivity of
Verdict
For those who can’t find a Canon or Nikon camera to suit them, or perhaps those who have vintage Pentax lenses, the K-S2 makes for a
fantastic first time DSLR. With a great feature set, good quality images and a natural way of using it, it’s easy to recommend the K-S2 to a wide range of people.

A modern classic reborn Audi introduces the all-new Audi TT Coupé

Cars
Manama, April 23rd, 2015 – Audi enthusiasts welcomed the arrival of the highly anticipated third-generation Audi TT Coupé at the official launch held at the Four Seasons Hotel. The iconic compact sports car has been reborn, demonstrating dynamics, emotion and technology in their purest forms. The all-new Audi TT Coupé is available at Audi Centre Bahrain now with a starting price of BD 18,990. The Audi TT has been renowned for its sporty and progressive design for over 15 years. First presented as a concept study in 1995, the first-generation Audi TT launched three years later – a style icon blending dynamic design and high everyday practicality. The second generation of the successful sports car followed in 2006. When viewed from the side, many details of the new Audi TT are intentionally reminiscent of the first-generation of the classic. “The Audi TT fully embodies our brand philosophy of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik.’ This new generation delivers a modern incarnation of the original TT that is even sportier, more dynamic and more innovative than its predecessor,” said Allen Blake, Sales Manager at Audi Bahrain. The S line exterior package makes the design of the bumpers, air intakes, Singleframe, side sills and the rear diffuser even sharper and optional flat full LED headlights give the new TT’s face a determined look. Headlights using groundbreaking Matrix LED technology are also available as options. Audi is offering two versions of the 2.0 TFSI in the new TT family. The gasoline engine produces 230 hp in the Audi TT 45 TFSI and 286 hp in the TTS. The two-liter engine has been improved in numerous areas compared with the previous engine, which an international panel of journalists named Engine of the Year in its category five
years in a row. In the Audi TT, the 45 TFSI produces a constant 370 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 4,300 rpm. With the six-speed S tronic transmission and front-wheel drive, the Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/h, and average consumption is 6.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, corresponding to 148 grams CO2 per kilometer. With the sixspeed S tronic and quattro all-wheel drive (optional in the TT 45 TFSI, standard in the TTS), the key figures are 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds; top speed of 250 km/h and 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers and 146 grams CO2 per kilometer. The TT and TTS mark the first time that the all-wheel drive system has been integrated into the standard Audi drive select system. The driver can choose at the push of a button whether the accelerator, the sound actuator and steering boost should be active in comfort, auto, dynamic or efficiency mode. If an MMI navigation system is on board, a fifth individual mode is added that is largely freely configurable. The interior also expresses the puristic sports car character of the new Audi TT. All elements are clearly structured and the round air vents – another TT characteristic – are reminiscent of jet engines. The driver-oriented operating concept of the new TT and TTS has been redesigned from the ground up. The Coupé features two major innovations from Audi – the new MMI and the revolutionary Audi virtual cockpit, which is a digital instrument cluster. Its 12.3inch, high-resolution display with 1,440 x 540 pixels produces tack sharp, brilliant and high-contrast images and provides for the comprehensive, attractive and versatile display of all types of information, from the navigation arrows and dynamic animations to the graphics for the assistance systems.
Just as groundbreaking as the Audi virtual cockpit is the new MMI system, which shows its full potential in the top-ofthe-line version MMI navigation plus with MMI touch. The developers have completely redesigned the terminal on the center tunnel console and its menu structure – an intelligent, easy-to-use logic replaces static menu trees, and frequently used functions can be reached with just a few clicks. All versions of the new TT Coupé come with a generous list of standard equipment. Active and passive safety is served by the rest recommendation, adaptive brake lights in the LED tail lights and the secondary collision brake assist. Six airbags and the integral head restraint system mitigate the consequences of an accident. The electrically adjustable sport seats with integrated head restraints, the Audi virtual cockpit, deluxe automatic air conditioning and interior lighting package, multifunction plus steering wheel, progressive steering, electromechanical parking brake, the park assist system, the convenience key and the 18-inch lightweight wheels testify to the high-tech standard of the new Audi TT. Another standard feature is the MMI radio. Besides MP3-capable CD drive, it features two card readers, an Aux-in jack and USB charging. The standard connectivity package supplements the MMI radio. It includes MMI touch, a Bluetooth interface and access to the mobile phone’s voice control system. To coincide with the launch, Audi Bahrain is inviting their fans to enter a competition on their Facebook page (www. facebook.com/audibahrain) for the chance to win a weekend test drive with the all-new Audi TT. The competition closes on 23 May. The all-new Audi TT Coupé is available at Audi Centre Bahrain now with the arrival date of the Audi TTS yet to be confirmed. Summer Festival Hair By Celebrity Hairstylist Asgar Saboo
Add a splash of colour Using hair chalk to get into the festival vibe can look fantastic when done right, and with such a great range of formulas available in a rainbow of colours, you’ll be able to find something to suit you. With celebrities from Katy Perry to Laura Whitmore trying out this look, it’s a chance to change up your look for something playful. And since the colour is so temporary, it’s usually easy to wash out for when the festival’s over and you need to get back to reality. Make sure you wear some old clothes in dark colours – this can get messy! Once you’ve picked your colour of choice, dampen your hair and start lightly rubbing the chalk into your hair, focusing on the ends for a more ombre effect. Leave to dry naturally if you like a tousled look or blow dry with a round brush for a smooth finish and to seal in the colour. Add sass with hair pieces Too scared to try the hair chalk? Plenty of retailers are providing fun, quirky hair pieces at reasonable prices, which can add some funk to your festival look without

the risk of something which could be more permanent. I would recommend a hair piece to anyone with a lighter blonde hair so you don’t risk having to wear an outlandish colour after the festival season – especially if you work in a smart office! Try a fun clip in fringe or braid for a quick fix which makes an impact, or choose some hair pieces in funky colours if you want to try something more vibrant. Seventies style flow The 1970’s is one of the most influential style eras for this season, and I predict that this will also be adopted by the top fashionistas at festivals this year. A seventies hair style can be great fun, especially if you usually rock a sleeker look – you’ll definitely look and feel the part for a festival! After you’ve blow-dried, set your hair with big rollers. Once it’s cooled, gently backcomb the hair to add more volume and then fix with plenty of hairspray. Bring some dry shampoo in your handbag for when you need a boost and to elongate the look for a second day effect. Borrow your style from Kate Moss
If you’re attending a festival which lasts over two days, the idea of unwashed, dirty hair can feel very scruffy and not what you want for your festival fashion style. But since there’s hairstyles that only work really well on more dirty hair, now is the time to try these and embrace the low maintenance look. I always love Kate Moss’ iconic Croydon face lift, which she always styles with unwashed hair. Brush your hair through and pull it back tight into a bun on the top of your head. The extra texture in your hair will help to fix the look and will give you that iconic supermodel off duty look. Quick fix plait Another quick and easy look to try is with plaits – and this can work the next day too. Style your hair into a cute French braid or two plaits for a day of partying, then leave your hair and sleep on it overnight. In the morning, take the plaits out, shake your hair and separate with your fingers for a tousled rock chick effect which should last all day.
