Morning Routine
All in the Family Laury Ann Hugs Mr. Poirier when she drops off her little sister on her way to class.
re-tie How to salvage a tie
1. If the knot is undone, separate the pieces
2. Loop the wide half and then the skinny half around the collar
3. Tuck the skinny half inside the loop
4. Tighten until the knot looks good.
Morning Meeting Scholars shake hands with staff, such as Ms. Garcia, every time they reach a new floor. (Climbing four flights of stairs becomes easier when there are people to greet you on every other landing.) Scholars have the option to take a breakfast with them to class from a table outside the Main Office. Ms. Calish helps one scholar as others settle in. Any work that is not completed before the morning meeting goes home with scholars. Mr. Carreker leaves enough of a gap between when the last students arrive and when his class gathers on the rug for morning meeting to allow time to eat and time for work. —Story and Photographs by Madeline Vega

What Happens at a Rally? Normally the newsletter’s back page is school-free, but this seemed an appropriate place to emphasize how important it is to support public demonstrations. If you cannot attend, there is no need to disparage the rally. The mood is a celebration of what we could accomplish with more government support. Other adults volunteered last year to take scholars whose parents could not attend. Thousands of adults and children in matching T-shirts makes a much stronger statement to civic leaders than simply using #PathToPossible. —Madeline
