The Plains stretch from just west of the Mississippi River to the rocky Mountains and from Canada to mexico few indians lived in this vast grassland region before the arrival of the europeans but after the spaniards brought the horse to the region in the 1600’s a new way of life appeared on the Plains On horseback the indians could follow the great herds of buffalo After new tribes and white settlers arrived on the Plains, fighting broke out.

MOST OF THE ORIGINAL PLAINS TRIBES LIVED IN VILLAGES ALONG THE RIVERS AND STREAMS WHERE THE LAND WAS FERTILE AND EASILY CULTIVATED OUT ON THE GRASSLANDS THE TOUGH SOD WAS HARD TO FARM THE WOMEN TENDED CROPS OF BEANS ,CORN , SQUASH AND TOBACCO.

Lakota: housing and clothing The housing of native Americans tribe Lakota is a nomadic. They live along side of the buffalo. Traveling with the buffalo. The time period that I am looking at the Lakota are living in teepee’s (they traveled for the different seasons). The Lakota would travel according to the buffalo (the buffalo where the Lakota's main resource animal) and in spring they would live by the river for farming. In the fall, many of the trial moved with the buffalo but others stated for farming till winter. In winter they meet up at a point set daring the summer. The teepee’s where easy to take done and to put up. Senesce they moved so often the Lakota had to have lite houses to move.

The Lakota's teepees where made out of animal hide. The animal hides where mostly made out of buffalo because buffalo is the Lakota main animal resource. They also had several long wooden poles to hold up the teepee hide. Because of these poles they could not have fire in the teepee. The teepees where painted, the paints were made out of berry's and other colorful things found.

Lakota: clothing During the warm seasons the Lakota ware a lighter clothing than during colder times they ware more clothing. The tribe would lair for more protection. The clothing much like the teepees were painted and had bead + feathers adorned. The Lakota also had beads, feathers in their hair. Among hair and clothing they painted their body's too.

Arts and craft The plains indians were gifted with arts and craft. Almost everything they made was painted beaded. in colerufl geometric pantters.
