Food What did they eat? Why did they eat this type of food? Where did they cook their food? Where did they store their food? What types of utensils did they use to cook and eat with? Before moving to reservations in the 1860s, the lakota indians ate buffalo and occasionally engaged in agriculture, primarily growing corn and tobacco.hunting was a way of life for the lakota,and they followed the seasonal migrations of buffalo herds. How is their food different from your food? How is it the same?There are many different lakota bands but the standing rock sioux tribe of north and south dakota has an especially informative website where you can learn about lakota hista history and culture.



Arts and Crafts What are some examples of the arts and crafts of this culture? What type of art is traditional?There are peace pipes, finger art, and weaving blankets. They did hoop dancing, celebrations, and they do ghost dances for their tradition. I to this tribal group? How is this made?They use string, wood, and rarely feathers for finger art/ flute playing. They use wood, string, feathers, furs, and sometimes seewees for peace pipes.What natural resources were used in creating the arts and crafts? wood, string, birds, clays, seaweed, and other animals.

Are there any dances?Yes, they used flutes, there voices, and hitting their drums they made. Songs?Yes, they sang and played many songs at their celebrations. Games?Yes there is a game similar to badminton that they like to play. Toys?Yes but only for kids, they had many but the very favorite was the rattle for babies.

Transportation How did they move from place to place? Horse, wagon, walk, mule,? Why did they need this? Why did they not need this? ● They use horse, caones,and the also walked for transportation. ● They needed them to get over water, and dry land. ● They had no reason why they didn’t need this.





Shelter

Describe the type of home. What was it made of What was it shaped like? What made it unique? How did it keep in warmth or stay cool. Where did they sleep? Store cloths? Store food? Lakota's shelter is like a few sticks connected in a angle. They live near the lake and cover their shelters with buffalo hides. Lakota people is split into groups because they have small shelters and 2 people can fit in. They can't live or stay so long because of weather so they need to move very oftenly. WOMAN-long deerskin elkskin dresses. MAN- breechcloths with leggings and buckskin shirts. Moccasins on their feet. CHILDREN- wore same for man and woman.



Interesting Fact What other unique things did you find out about this culture?They used prayer sticks, they had medicine men, and they have skinwalkers. They could not practice their language until 1978. over 65% of lakota people live in sub houses andâ…“ of them have no running water or electricity. 50% of lakota people over 40 years have diabetes. Suicide rates for teens is 5x higher than the U.S people. Did they play games? Yes, they played a game similar to badmitten.Have a government?No , they could not have a government for reasons, one of them is they could not have rights so therefore did not have a government. Have certain religious or burial practices?No, they believe in god. Build great structures?No, they could not build these structures because of how much time they had was not enough time.Have social classes?Yes and no, yes they have them now, no they did not have them back then.
