Transportation They usually walked on foot before the 1730’s (Before the Spanish came over).All the transportation before the 1730’s involved walking,travois’(Type of sled) pulled by dogs.After the 1730’s they used horses along with their regular methods of transportation.

They always had a reason to move from place to place so often,the buffalo.They moved wherever the buffalo moved because they were a source of food,clothing and tools for them.The Lakota Indians never wasted anything.Also,their houses were super easy to just pack up and move.They could’ve moved without notice most times.

Shelter Tipis of the buffalo hides tipis can ed housing that was lightweight and could be taken apart in minutes.Tipis were made buffalo hides. Around 10 to 15 wooden poles were used to hold each tipi to let smoke from their fire out.A hole was left be taken down quickly and move with the tribe. This was important to the Lakota (Sioux) called their houses tipis which means the place where a person lives because they roamed the plains following the buffalo herds they ne in the top of the tipi,which also served to cycle in the fresh air the tipis construction allowed the Lakota to take them down quickly so that an entire village could be packed and ready to move within an hour the Lakota now live in modern homes on and off reservations.

Lakota,North Dakota 58344 the Lakota live in the Great Plains because all had money things in common but one of the biggest the importance of the buffalo. No they live in like apartments and houses just like us.


Location People inhabited the Great Plains on an area with limited rain grasslands and rolling hills.It was the perfect environment for the buffalo.In general the Great Plains have a wide variety of weather through the year with very cold and harsh winters and very hot and humid summers in winter grasslands are among the least protected biomes.



Lakota clothing was made mostly out of buffalo hides and deer skin,they were decorated quite well!So many colours and beads sewed in with sinew(Animal Tendon).Men,wore decorated tunics, male children also wore tunics,but wore a skirt-like article of clothing with it.Women wore dresses,decorated with beads and paintings.Female children wore similar dresses,but it was more colourful and decorated with white and brown paints. Well,since it’s always warm in the Plains,they don’t need very heavy clothing...Much.Since it is mostly hot in the Plains,they wear light clothing so they don’t get too hot.

Their greatest known chief is Sitting Bull. His home was at Standing Rock In North Dakota
