SACRAMENTO FASHION WEEK

FRIDAY

She hopes to not only be successful as a designer but to create a new platform in the fashion industry. She has always wanted to help the less fortunate, particularly Foster care and Group home children and teens. At the age of 15 she made herself a promise to do so in any way possible and participated in several pageants in hopes to help raise awareness, while winning titles like Miss Congeniality. Recently, she saw an opportunity to not only help others but to help herself and fellow design students by creating a company called Designing a Difference. The company offers a platform where new designers are given the opportunity to show their designs through a series of fashion shows, while raising money for charities. She continues to learn and grow in her art and is excited and more than ready for what her future career holds for her.

Kimberley’s need to achieve her dreams is restless and she will always seek ways to further herself. Currently a student, however, the quality of her work is extremely professional. Her designs are inspired by the feminine silhouette of the Edwardian period, she loves incorporating textures in her fabrics and mixing unsuspecting textiles. Her collection also illustrates inspirations of nature’s most beautifully crafted flowers, the spring showers and the gray gloomy skies.

Samantha Furno, a Sacramento native, has been following her dream of having her own fashion label for years. Her journey truly took off when she began by making custom, redesigned jackets for her friends and selling them online. From there she has been creating garments ever since that have been featured in two runway shows at Sacramento State University, landing her the title as “Top Designer 2013,” as well as a feature on Good Day Sacramento. After landing a dream internship with a world renowed designer, Vanessa Mooney, in Los Angeles last summer, Samantha decided it was time to truly create a name for herself and thus, her blog StyleInfurno was born. StyleInfurno, a personal style blog and media outlet provides daily fashion inspiration and outfit ideas for girls who have a passion for fashion just like her. Samantha’s brand is an extension of her personal style that has inspired many. It is a Women’s ready-to-wear label full of vintage-inspired, classical pieces with a hint of modernism designed and created by herself. Her latest Spring/Summer collection is an expression of her own personal style; effortlessly playful and classic. Soft chiffons, delicate trims and luxurious silks bring to life this collection full of chic separates and fashionable dresses. Samantha’s designs are derived out of the fashions of some of the most inspiring fashion icons of the 1970’s era. The effortless beauty and style evoked by the “fashion foxes” of this era inspired Samantha to capture the same essence of effortlessness and class that these timeless women possessed, while adding a fresh and modern take on classic silhouettes.

LATIYA GHOLAR

KIMBERLY EANES

Ever since she was little Kimberly Eanes knew she wanted to be in the fashion industry. From dressing up paper dolls at the age of four to sketching models at the age of six. She loved and always will love fashion but the desire to become a fashion designer was what she craved most. Born and raised in Camden, Denver she knew she had to leave her hometown to pursue her dreams. She made the move to Orlando, Florida and attended the International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT) but after taking a trip to Northern California later the same year did she realize that a fashion career in Orlando was not what she wanted to seek. Kimberley decided yet again it was time for her to move on and finish her schooling in a different state. Sacramento, California is where she found herself attending the IADT Sacramento campus.

SAMANTHA FURNO

REBECCA CAHUA

Rebecca Cahua studied at San Francisco State University receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising. Her designs are influenced by her urban background from growing up in the city, combined with her transition to the suburbs. Rebecca’s designs are playful, sexy, yet classy and sophisticated while combining a twist of classics and urban street wear. Her clothing are designed for those who are not afraid to stand out. She loves color and the idea of contrasting colors, textures and prints into one look intended to make every one of her pieces a must have piece.

Consultant, Event Planner, CEO-Designer and founder of Tailand Designs, Latiya Gholar is unstoppable. She recently graduated with her BFA in fashion design & marketing from The International Academy of Design and Technology in Sacramento. In May of 2013, Latiya started a non-profit fashion design school for young girls in the Sacramento area. It is here where she shares her expertise with the aspiring youth on how to ‘upcycle’ clothing, sell finish products and produce their own fashion show. She firmly believes in investing into the community in which she lives in. Her clothing line Tailand Designs exhibits a contemporary women’s line directed towards the classy, ultra-feminine and modern but unpretentious women. “I love the time when women were women and men were men. I want to capture the essence of that.” Says Latiya whose collection is inspired by the early 1900’s “The Golden Age of Hollywood” era. Tired of the idea of short skirts, club wear and raunchy styles she wants to design modest, classy and statement pieces. Tailand Designs demonstrates the classic and timeless generation for women. Infusing her new line “American Ummah” with Tailand Designs, Latiya hopes to introduce her new discovered love of American/ Islamic fusion.

SPRING / SUMMER

DESIGNER SHOWCASE

MAI VANG

Aspiring Fashion Designer Mai Vang grew up learning several sewing techniques from her skilled mother. Growing up in a home where she was taught what she now loves she decided to take this passion and attend The Art Institute in San Francisco. It was there that she refined her skills in sewing but to learn more such as pattern making and Adobe Illustrator. In 2008 she graduated The Art Institute with her Associates in Fashion Design. Unfortunately due to her father’s illness she had to pause her career and move back to Sacramento where she would take care of her ailing father. After a four-year hiatus, she began to sketch her inspirations, believing that timing is everything she knew that her time has finally arrived. Focusing on herself and her creations Mai especially finds it in her Hmong culture. Embracing the cultures detailed embroidery, bright, bold colors but also finds herself admiring the works of Chanel and Schiaparelli. In her 2015 fall collection expect pure, simplistic style, modern edge and an intense primary hues. Her designs take on loose fitting silhouettes, relaxed, comfort and mobility garments. Playing with fabrics such as cotton, polyester and jersey is her expertise. With a careful hand and an eye for tailoring Mai hopes to create a fashion house that will continue as a legacy “No matter what age you claim, there’s always an infinite way of looking chic.”

This Sacramento native considers herself an apparel enthusiast with a love for fashion and costume design. Currently attending Sacramento State University, Gina will obtain her Bachelors of Arts in Fashion Merchandising and Design and complete her minor in Theatre. Gina has always known she wanted to become a designer from an early time of her life from sketching her designs and progressing even further to learning how to sew. Proudly wearing her designs since High school, Gina now flaunts her own creations to her college classes. Although being a college student creating her own clothing she still manages time to assist with costuming for her schools theatre department.

YENNIE ZHOU

Peter designs from his inspiration of nature and culture. He focuses on taking cultural trends with a twist of his own personal design esthetic. Combing colors, fabrications and silhouettes honoring the richness of a culture and its nature. He designs to embrace his vision, his history and hopes that he can also inspire others that with some hard work they too can be who they want to be.

GINA SANCHEZ

PETER SRICHAN

Freelance designer and American River College student, Peter Srichan discovered his love for fashion at a young age. Growing up in a home of seven children including himself in which education and college where not a primary importance. Having little in common with his peers he unveiled his love of art. Being creativity was the outlet Peter needed in order to express himself but fashion was his true vision. He knew ever since discovering the creative world of fashion he wanted to be a part of the industry but as a fashion designer. In order to achieve such a goal he had to face his past challenges. He decided to go back to high school and graduate in which he did and is now studying towards achieving an Associates in Fashion Design at American River College. He is proud to say he will be the first in his family to graduate from college. This is just the beginning for him, he plans to further himself in the future to all areas of fashion and understand the impact it has on others.

Yennie Zhou designs pieces that are far from any cliché collection, from long draped and short structured her design esthetic will always push the boundary. She believes art exists in various forms and mediums which all can be captured within societies’ most used artistic canvas: fashion. Zhou began her higher education studies in the field of architectural engineering. Therefore it is no surprise that her creations are designed with an expert sense of structure.

If it was not enough that Gina Sanchez designs she is also known for her fashion blog, Sac Style by Gina. Within the past year, Gina minimized her blogging in order to launch her fashion brand, Pixiegift Fashions which she debuted its first collection in April 2014. In the same month, Pixiegift Fashions was published in Los Angles fashion magazine Pretty in Petticoats, which reflects her brands fun, whimsical and playful style. Her 2015 spring/ summer Pixiegift Fashions collection is inspired by the ethereal magic of nature, light and feminine garments and adorned with crème lace.

Zhou is known for her meticulous use of textures and patterns. While the cuts she uses are exquisite, it is the use of textures that really makes a piece a “Yennie Zhou”. Zhou offers casual clothing that could easily be worn to a coffee shop or a much needed girl’s day out. Not only can she design garments for the everyday women she can also create for the ones who like a little edge in their life. Her designs capture the beauty of women while keeping to an edgy and artistic sensibility. That is why being able to create structural garments with the use of various textures while still embracing the silhouette of a women makes Yennie Zhou’s designs unique and desirable.
