A NOTE
FROM THE TERRITORIAL ARTS MINISTRIES DIRECTOR
“HOLD ON TO THE PATTERN OF WHOLESOME TEACHING YOU LEARNED FROM ME — A PATTERN SHAPED BY THE FAITH AND LOVE THAT YOU HAVE IN CHRIST JESUS. THROUGH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO LIVES WITHIN US, CAREFULLY GUARD THE PRECIOUS TRUTH THAT HAS BEEN ENTRUSTED TO YOU.”
2 TIMOTHY 1:13-14
This year, the arts in the Eastern Territory was shaken to its core when our founder, Carol Jaudes, was promoted to glory. Carol’s direction, skill, and passion were the ingredients that built this ministry from scratch twenty-five years ago. Since 1999, the Arts Ministries Bureau has been a beacon of light for Salvationist artists around the world; the reason for this was Carol. Her commitment to excellence was unparalleled. Her love for life in all its fullness was contagious. She made space for everyone. She set the example of faith in action.
I pray that as you explore these pages, you see Carol in all that we continue to do. While programs grow and new ideas sprout and bloom, still I can’t help but to see her influence in every detail. I admit, the irony in this sentiment is painfully clear; if Carol were still here, she would only point back to Jesus.

KIDS 5
In partnership with East Youth, Arts Ministries has produced Christmas and Lent series for use on Sunday mornings at the Corps. Featuring young actors from around the territory, these kids are lighting the way for their peers. Look out for a new series every year!
Divisional Creative Arts Directors Gathering
In October, the Arts Ministries Bureau gathered with the Divisional Creative Arts Directors and Divisional Music Directors from around the territory. They shared resources and feedback, received spiritual guidance, and then ended the night with fellowship in NYC over dinner and a Broadwy show. It was a beautiful way to connect with one another, especially after postponing the event for several years due to the pandemic. With special guest S. Blake Lanier of The Lanier Practice, the group was led

through several practical and purposeful workshops such as A Backstage Tour of Burnout, Emotional Wellness, Relationship with Self and Others, as well as Program Mission, Vision, Criteria, Goals, and Dreams. It was an incredibly rewarding and effective time they shared together under the leadership of esteemed friend and mentor, S. Blake Lanier. They are looking forward to planning more gathering events in the future!
ABOUT EVERGREEN
Produced by the Arts Ministries Bureau, Evergreen is a compilation of series designed for specific age groups, each with a unique biblical and arts focus. Developed to equip and empower officers/ volunteers to produce quality arts programming at their Corps, Evergreen instructors require no special training and minimal preparation time. Lessons range from 45min-1hr each and are free to use throughout the territory. Arts Ministries hopes that Evergreen will create a positive crossover between Corps Sunday attendance and after-school programs, and prepare young artists for divisional dance/drama teams, Star Search and beyond! With a new series added every year, Evergreen will grow and branch out to reflect the needs and interests of budding creatives throughout the territory.
The Starter Pack on our website contains everything you may need to get an Evergreen class started at your Corps, complete with attendance sheets and progress reports for every age group!
“My Trenton Kinderdance class has been loving Evergreen!”
Olivia Renkel, NJ Creative Arts Director
“We started a Cherubs group during our Music & Arts Programs for the youngest members, who range in age from 3 to 6. I did a test run of the Buds curriculum, and they loved it! I was able to open the material and easily read and teach at the same time. The kids remained engaged, loved the games that got them moving and allowed them to be silly, and shared beautiful answers to the well-crafted questions.”

WHAT'S NEXT?
We are gathering ideas, concepts, and suggestions from the field for the next installment of our Evergreen series. The next volume is expected to be released to the public Commissioning Weekend of 2026.
“WHOEVER DWELLS IN THE SHELTER OF THE MOST HIGH WILL REST IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY. I WILL SAY OF THE LORD, HE IS MY REFUGE AND MY FORTRESS, MY GOD, IN WHOM I TRUST.”
Psalm 91:1-12
Each year, Arts Ministries partners with the Territorial Youth Department to develop and distribute a new Jesus Theatre. With this partnership, two events are held annually. The first event takes place in March and is the Jesus Theatre Pre-Cast, where a new production is developed and supporting materials are produced. Second, in May, Arts Ministries supports East Youth as they host a Jesus Theatre Training, designed for directors who will roll out Jesus Theatre with their own cast. This ministry has seen 4,622 commitments made to the Lord this year.
This year’s Jesus Theatre production was titled “Umbrellas.” It utilized the imagery of God the Father with a giant umbrella, who distributed an array of colorful umbrellas to people, representing life. The enemy was portrayed with a storm cloud coat rack that clipped the umbrellas shut, keeping them hung to the rack. Using this imagery, The Gospel was shared through basic movement, silent acting, and narration.

“THE THEME LOVE BEYOND CAPTURED EVERYONE’S ATTENTION. I HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE STOP ME TO ASK WHAT IT MEANT. IT PROVIDED A NICE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THAT THE SALVATION ARMY WAS THERE TO SHARE GOD’S LOVE, AND THAT GOD CAN HELP US TO LOVE PEOPLE BEYOND OUR MANMADE BOUNDARIES.”
ROB JEFFREY,
STREET TEAM
The Pier Festival continues to be an Eastern Territory highlight as the largest outdoor public-facing evangelism event. Thousands of people pass through every night for this three-hour variety show. Featuring an array of Salvationist talent, the stage show has drawn in families, vacationers, and local patrons alike. Many have shared how they planned their vacation around this event so they don’t miss it! The program mission every year is for people passing by to have a positive experience with The Salvation Army, and to have an opportunity to encounter Jesus. Meaningful conversations have taken place for those seeking guidance, prayers have been lifted, and many more have been referred to SA rehabilitation and social service programs. Arts Ministries is grateful to play this small role, but the work isn’t done yet, so they are eager to return and continue this ministry!
“TWO YOUNG SISTERS CAME TO THE TABLE TO SEE WHAT WE HAD TO GIVE AWAY. THEY ASKED ABOUT THE RESOURCES, POINTED AT THE BIBLES, AND ASKED IF EACH COULD HAVE ONE. IT WAS A SWEET ENCOUNTER THAT THEY DID THIS TOGETHER. THEY WERE CURIOUS ABOUT PRAYER AND HOW IT WORKS. AFTER TALKING WITH THE GIRLS, THEY THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT TO WRITE, AND EACH LEFT A PRAYER.”
JOANNA POLAREK, STREET TEAM
STAGE ACTS
Inspired by John 15:16, the theme of the week this year was CHOSEN. This message was powerful and affirming for delegates and instructors who felt inadequate and without purpose. As the week progressed, a beautiful truth was discovered by everyone attending TAMC: brokenness does not disqualify us from His purpose for us - we will always be seen and loved by our all-knowing God!
This year, there was representation at TAMC from all eleven divisions! Delegates reportedly enjoyed their major tracks, small groups, devotions, and spiritual direction sessions. They especially enjoyed the additional elective classes, as well as Soul Care. Soul Care is a new intensive this year, created to give the delegates time in the afternoon to connect with the Lord in a variety of creative and contemplative ways. The highlight of the week was a showing of The Lion King on Broadway, which was followed by a private talk-back with members of the cast and production team. The week ended with the TAM Conservatory Finale, which drew the largest combined live and online audience ever. Scan the QR code below to access the full TAMC24 Finale video.

“As a parent, I am so grateful that my teen found a place where he can worship and grow his faith in an environment where he is accepted and encouraged. It’s because of these programs my son is growing to love God in ways we don’t always have here at home!”
Captain Angelica Spence, WPA
In continued partnership with HandsOn, this year our CAST24 team began their ministry at the Spring Valley Corps in the GNY division, where they performed Umbrellas to a very excited after-school audience! Following their performance, the team began their journey to the Bahamas to perform their Jesus Theatre piece. After each performance concluded at each location, many commitments to the Lord were made through prayer with the cast members. This new and innovative way of sharing the story of Jesus was impactful and incredibly well received. After five meaningful weeks of sharing the Gospel in the Bahamas, the team ended their ministry at the OOB Pier
Festival in Old Orchard Beach, ME. Over the span of four days, the CAST team ministered to thousands of children and their families each night.
“MY SUMMER WAS AN ABSOLUTE BLESSING! MY EXPERIENCE AS THE TEAM LEADER WAS NOTHING SHORT OF REMARKABLE. MY TEAM WAS AMAZING, AND I CAN SPEAK FOR MY TEAM WHEN I SAY THAT WE ALL LEFT THE BAHAMAS AS DIFFERENT PEOPLE. MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAY FROM THE SUMMER IS THAT GOD IS ALWAYS WORKING!”
BEVERLY SAINTEME, GNY TEAM LEADER
“SER PARTE DE CAST24 E IR A LAS BAHAMAS FUE UNA EXPERIENCIA MARAVILLOSA LLENA DE MUCHOS RETOS Y BENDICIONES. CONOCÍ PERSONAS QUE VERDADERAMENTE AMAN A DIOS Y LE SIRVEN CON AMOR. EN ESTE VERANO EL SEÑOR ME HIZO ENTENDER QUE EL AMOR NO TIENE IDIOMA Y LO MUCHO QUE ÉL NOS AMA. TAMBIÉN QUE DEBO CONFIAR EN ÉL CON LOS OJOS CERRADOS, PORQUE ÉL TIENE EL CONTROL DE TODO EN MI VIDA Y TIENE PLANES HERMOSOS PARA ELLA. AL IGUAL QUE LLEVAR LA PALABRA DE DIOS A TRAVÉS DEL ARTE DEL JESUS THEATRE ME IMPACTO DE UNA MANERA MUY HERMOSA Y FUE UNA GRAN BENDICIÓN PARA MI VIDA ESPIRITUAL Y PERSONAL, INCLUYENDO A MI GRUPO QUE SE CONVIRTIÓ EN UNA FAMILIA EN TAN POCO TIEMPO.”

Help us change lives! Donations help with costumes, craft supplies, and gifts for the child patients.
New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital
This year, we introduced a new ministry, Joy! It is a unique partnership with the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York City. Using costumes and characters from the OOB Pier Ministry, Joy performs regularly for child patients with cancer, pulmonary disease, heart disease, sickle cell anemia, and other related health concerns. These interactive experiences bring hope and joy to those
receiving care by providing a temporary distraction from illness and treatment through the art of storytelling. Each story performed is created specifically for the patients, and is presented by their favorite colorful characters! After performances conclude, performers will often sit with the patients to work on crafts and engage in meet and greets.
“We are truly appreciative of the thoughtful dedication to planning and facilitating interactive programming in the Children’s Hospital. Joy provides a sense [of] belonging, support, and inspiration for child patients and helps them build confidence and resilience throughout their journey. The team continues to deliver a playful and engaging performance for the children and their families, and we love to see the smiles and the joy on their faces!”

In honor of Carol’s legacy and her tireless dedication to cultivating arts ministry, the Carol Jaudes Award has been instituted this year. The very first TAM Conservatory scholarship in her name was awarded to Jacob Price, a Worship Major delegate from the Southwest Ohio and Northeast Kentucky division, who demonstrated the highest level of excellence. Always prompt, present, and prepared, Jacob embodies the spirit of TAM Conservatory, echoing the memory of who Carol was.

Ballet
with the Salvation Army
Ballet with the Salvation Army is an album of Salvation Army-inspired ballet class music, newly published by Arts Ministries. Featuring pianist and arranger Len Ballantine, this album can be used in conjunction with the Dance Collective lesson plan or to accompany any ballet class. This resource is free and can be streamed on Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. As you listen, you’ll hear familiar hymns and choruses from the songbook! This album is a great way to blend traditional music with modern worship during Corps arts programs.
Classical Ballet Curriculum
Written by Kellyn Mylechreest, a classical ballet curriculum is now available for Corps and divisional use. Intended for dancers of all ages and levels, it includes weekly lesson plans and links to instructional videos. Scan the QR code to access this program.
TERRITORIAL HIGHLIGHTS
Arts participation is growing in the Eastern Territory!
Visual Arts in the Eastern Territory
Dance continues to make up for more than 50% of arts participation in the territory. Although Visual Arts appears to contribute to a small portion of the overall pie, it is quickly becoming the fastestgrowing ministry out of the three.
Visual Arts participation has increased from 59% to a striking 5,500%.
DIVISIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
We are proud to highlight some notable achievements in the arts from around the Eastern Territory!
Empire
The Empire Division is experiencing a dance boom under the new Creative Arts Director, Nya Speller! Their Music and Arts Conservatory kicked off with seven new dancers, and their Music Camp dance track doubled in size compared to last year! Yearround programs are thriving in the Corps, specifically the Utica Corps with their newly formed dance group placing first at Star Search!
Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware
This year, the Music and Arts Department in EPA welcomed back Becki Phillips as their new Creative Arts Director! Reflecting on the past year, Divisional Music and Creative Arts Director Edward Mylechreest had this to say about Jesus Theatre:
“This year, I did a Jesus Theatre open casting call, to all the camp staff, so that anyone who wants to take part can. Anyone. Regardless of age, background, experience, if you wanted to take part, we would have a place for you. It meant we had lifeguards, junior counselors, kitchen staff, almost every area of camp, taking part. With one staff kid involved, we had an age range of 10-22, and multiple countries and languages represented by our international staff members. For many of the 23 cast members, this was their first attempt at live theatre. They chose to give up their free time to work on this project and poured so much of themselves into the piece.”
DIVISIONAL HIGHLIGHTS (CONT.)
Greater New York
The GNY Music and Creative Arts Department showcased an inspiring Christmas production about a writer trying to create a new Christmas script from a fresh perspective, not the same old Nativity story. Through her conversations with the nativity characters, she finds that Jesus is the story; a timeless one of love, grace, and redemption. This production featured all ten music and arts groups, including the Divisional and Railton Dance and Drama groups.
Massachusetts
Northeast Ohio
Northern New England
New things are developing in the Northern New England division! They launched a new series of adult-focused divisional ensembles this year that will practice and perform alongside the Divisional Youth Music and Arts ensembles. These groups - the NNE Dance Team, Drama Team, Timbrels, and Songsterswill join the NNE Band as the higher-skilled arts groups. The goal is to engage the adults in the fellowship of art and music-making, serving as an encouragement for the students in their DYMA program.

The New Jersey Divisional Arts Team is a community of artists and believers who strive to pursue excellence in their craft and seek to bring glory to God, sharing the love of Jesus through the performing arts. This ministry is specifically designed for teens and young adults involved in the Corps in NJ. The team provides its young people with quality instruction where they can grow in their craft and develop into strong arts leaders. This is a very special ministry for the NJ Arts Department and has grown tremendously over the years. They’ve been able to use their gifts to share the gospel during many divisional events such as the Christmas Show, Youth Councils, Star Search, and Family Camp. This past April, the divisional team went on an educational trip, Behind the Emerald Curtain. This was a great opportinity for the group to speak with industry professionals and receive a backstage experience of the award-winning Broadway show, Wicked!
Southern New England
Southwest Ohio and Northeast Kentucky
Swoneky Youth Councils shined with teen-led Music and Arts performances throughout the weekend. Their Spark Band (teen worship team) led worship for an entire meeting. The weekend was crowned with a collaboration from the Spark Band, teen Dance Troupe, and Timbrel Brigade. It was an amazing celebration of worship!
Western Pennsylvania
The Music and Arts programs in Western Pennsylvania have flourished, with approximately 200 kids actively participating across the division through local Corps and divisional initiatives. Embracing the Jesus Theatre theme of Resting in the Shadow of the Almighty and connecting it to the theme There’s No Place like Home, the ten Creative Arts Conservatory delegates presented a shortened production of The Wizard of Oz. In just four days, the cast and crew were able to bring the production together, captivating audiences made up of fellow campers, their families, and corps members. This performance not only enriched the camp experience but also reinforced the sense of community and belonging among the participants, giving them both a performance and ministry experience. God has been so faithful!
