Experiments using a transitional colour from Scotland to Wales creating Turqoise. Using this colour to represent Wales coming more into the forground and also playing around.

After a lot of experimentation, I took quite a simplified route if you like as I felt that this is the most realistic way that the flag could be evolved without causing too many riots across Britain. You can see the Original Union Jack top left (1).

The diagonal red cross of Northern Ireland has been made thinner to fit inside the Scottish Flag.

My process involved getting rid of the Scottish Flag and widening these Northern Ireland diagonals to replicate the original flag. You can see this is fig (2) and (3).

I then appplied the red colour to the whole flag. The theory behind this is that the Red and White are the most prominent colours on the flags of all of the combined counties left in Britain; England, Northern Ireland and Wales. I feel this new flag is just as iconic as the old Union Jack, but also, when put into context, a massive

Brand Campaign

The Brand Campaign around the flag is we’re the focus lies on engaging with the NEW British Public. I’ve been playing around with a very copy-led brand campaign to help the public engage more with the new brand. Taglines such as “New Britain, Just as Great.” and “Even Greater Britain” help re-inforce the brand in quite a British Tounge-incheek manor.

As part of the brand campaign, I wanted to hint at the new flag before it’s official release. And this could be done in a number of different ways including Gorilla Advertising and Standard Promotion through the use of Billboards Etc. I used crops of the new flag, as he silhouette is already extremely iconic, the public shouldi nstantly recognise what it is, no matter how much it’s been cropped (to some extent).

Press Coverage

Press Coverage of the new flag could link to the brand campaign itself. This is a proposed Special Edition cover of The Times Newspaper, using an image of people holding up the new flag along with the tagline NEW Britain. NEW Britain, also links to the three countries that make up the new Kingdom; Northern Ireland, England and Wales - NEW.

These mock-ups show how the brand can be spplied to the many different areas that are neccasery. In this case, I’ve use the Olympic Team as an example, due to the sucess that this had throughout Britain in the Summer of 2012. This spectacle really helped build the British spirit, so tieing this new brand to the 2016 Olympics can help create the same kind of Buzz.

I wanted to show the flag in a more proffesional context too. There are lots of important ceremonies that include the Union Jack. The Union Jack’s original purpose was to take into war, so it’s got to still convey that original feirceness on battlefront.
