Wednesday 10 - Saturday 13 July Sadler’s Wells
Welcome to Sadler’s Wells The autumn season at Sadler’s Wells coincides with our 15th year in our current Rosebery Avenue building so I’m delighted that we’re presenting such a strong and diverse programme as we celebrate this milestone. I think it’s important that Sadler’s Wells continues to enable audiences to experience internationallycelebrated talents so I’m delighted to welcome some of the world’s most respected dance companies to our stages including Benjamin Millepied’s LA Dance Project, Stuttgart Ballet, Mark Morris Dance Group and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Our Associate Artists are vital to Sadler’s Wells and I’m proud of the partnership we have with some of the foremost choreographic talents working today. This autumn we present our new Sadler’s Wells production by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui – m¡longa, bringing a contemporary perspective to the world of tango. Wayne McGregor, Hofesh Shechter, Jonzi D and Kate Prince’s ZooNation Dance Company all present brand new work this season, while Matthew Bourne’s iconic production of Swan Lake returns this Christmas and Jasmin Vardimon brings back her powerful work, Justitia. While there is no substitute for live performance, to give you a taste of our many productions we’ve created a range of videos for you to enjoy at www.sadlerswells.com/videos. An easy way to access these is through the ‘QR codes’ on each page of this brochure. We’ve explained how to use them on the opposite page. Now is an especially challenging time for arts organisations as funding is under tremendous pressure. We owe it to you to continue our focus on excellence and keep artists at the heart of everything we do. We hope in return you will continue to support our work and bring new people with you to experience the magic of dance. I look forward to seeing you at one of our theatres soon.

British Youth Opera Paul Bunyan / The Secret Marriage Saturday 7 - Saturday 14 September One of the opera world’s best-kept secrets, British Youth Opera’s annual productions in association with Southbank Sinfonia offer the chance to hear the next generation of opera stars. Selected through nationwide auditions from over 400 singers, British Youth Opera “showcase the cream of young talent after music college, but just before the agents swoop” (The Times). Paul Bunyan – Benjamin Britten’s first opera, a collaboration with W H Auden – has an easy-going musical style that pre-empts that of Bernstein and Sondheim. With a cast of 44 singers, it tells of the founding of America by a motley band of pioneers, led by the folklore hero ‘as tall as the Empire State’.

##### “Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake has lost none of its glamour but grows and changes with each fresh cast” EVENING STANDARD
##### “The impact of this vibrant staging is undiminished; if anything it’s even stronger” DAILY EXPRESS
“Powerful, entertaining and visually splendid” TIME OUT
New Adventures Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake Wednesday 4 December - Sunday 26 January When it premiered at Sadler’s Wells in 1995, Matthew Bourne’s triumphant modern re-interpretation of Swan Lake turned tradition upside down, and took the dance world by storm. Now firmly established as a modern day classic, this iconic production is perhaps best-known for replacing the traditional female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble. A Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist, Matthew Bourne blends dance, humour and spectacle with extravagant, award-winning designs by Lez Brotherston, to create a provocative and powerful Swan Lake for our times. Collecting over 30 international theatre awards including three Tonys, Swan Lake has been acclaimed as a landmark achievement on the international stage. It has become the longest running ballet in the West End and on Broadway and enjoyed four hugely successful tours in the UK and thrilled audiences all over the world.

Travelling Light & Bristol Old Vic BOING! Friday 20 December - Sunday 5 January Set on Christmas Eve, BOING! is an energetic and enchanting piece of children’s dance theatre that captures the delirious excitement of waiting for Father Christmas to arrive on the most magical night of the year. Adored by both critics and children when it performed at the Lilian Baylis Studio over Christmas 2011 and 2012, BOING! has attracted rave reviews. Directed by children’s theatre specialist Sally Cookson and choreographed by award-winning b-boys Wilkie Branson (a Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associate), and Joêl Daniel, BOING! combines comedy, acrobatics and breakdance to dazzling effect. Too excited to sleep, Wilkie and Joêl are drawn into ever wilder games that turn their bed into a giant trampoline. The ensuing chaos guarantees to leave children bursting with Christmas spirit!
