Introduction The task this semester was to design an architectural structure that was missing from St. /TMSpX Antigua. Hence, it was the single main focus of Design Studio 6. One of the many archetypes missing was a Library. The class was then divided into four due to the four site proposals by the lecturers. I was given Site 4 to develop. My site is situated along High Street and St. 2FW^pX Street, High Street literally being the higher street by 1m. The latter was incorporate in the levels and the way I treated both entrances. I treated both entrances grand but High Street was more emphasized as it is not only the higher street but the second busiest in St. /TMSpX Antigua. My initial objective within in this design was to have a three-story space for grandeur and highlight the roof but due to a tight program space could not be allotted for such as advised by my lecturers. However, one of the key selling points for my scheme was focused on connecting the interior with the exterior. The exterior space was create by the structure stepping away from the boundary edge on the east and west façade. A wooden deck was instrumental in providing a
surface to traverse instead of a muddy surface of a garden in the case of rainfall. The major root of my design is based on the spaces in relation to hierarchy of purpose by simple means of dominant, subdominant and subordinate. This design process left me design that worked well with the shape of the site. A major design feature being the roof, is meant to stand out from all other rectilinear counterparts. It also symbolizes the peaceful people, the breezy climate and the crescent of the waves of the 365 beaches, which the country boasts. In conclusion, the architecture of my library seeks to break way towards a more modern looking town that offers a new type of experience in terms of space. For instance, from the forces, edges and memory exercise gave me an insight to design in such a densely populated context. It helped in terms of mediation and to the allocation of spaces such as the conference rooms, reading room and lobby offers one the view the activity on the Street. On the other hand, places such as the internet café and
reading garden are well shaded by neighbouring structures along with the help of trees. Overall I believe this proposal would be a meaningful addition to the architecture of St./TMSpX, Antigua and it wil definitely stand out as a landmark within its context.

CONCEPT      The  idea  behind  my  library  is  to  create  a  QFSIRFWP \NYMNS YMJ YT\S TK 8Y /TMSpX Antigua.  The  architecture  of  my  library  seeks  to  have  a  significant  positive  impact  on  its  community  and  a  greater  one  on  all  that  make  use  of  its  services  to  educate  themselves  and  hence  breakaway  from  constraints,  that  the  lack  of  knowledge  present.    The  roof  which  takes  on  a  nautical  theme  is  based  on:   1)  The  windy  nature  of  the  town.  2)The  1m  height  difference  between  High  8YWJJY MNLMJW FSI 8Y 2FW^pX 8YWJJY  3)  The  crescent  shaped  waves  of  the  water  at  the  365  beaches  of  Antigua.   In  terms  of  urban  planning,  the  town  requires  a  structure  that  surpasses  the  YT\SpX SJJIX \MNHM MFX F \T\-factor  in  design  and  at  the  same-time  practical  and  flexible.  The  curvilinear  nature  of  the  roof  deviates  from  convention  of  the  rest  of  the  building  and  the  architectural  context.  Â

Conclusion This semester for me was a challenging one as I had a lot of impulses affecting me outside the gates of school. I saw it as a prime opportunity to be focused and try to keep on top of things. I must say my love for architecture and the arts have grown but school does not fulfil my wishes. However, I am thankful that I made it through the ups and downs of the semester. I found this year to be quite a good one, on a whole, just a bit less stressing than the first semester. I have gained more confidence and there is definitely more room for improvement. I have reached the end of yet another semester by the grace of God. I look forward, towards my final year, as I would like to pull up all the stops and finish my .stay at The Caribbean School Of Architecture.
