Supplies are not provided for online courses. A materials list will be provided that includes common household art-making materials with some items to be purchased.
Take your imagination to the next level by creating your own comics and graphic novels! Learn how to tell engaging stories and investigate character development, plot structure, scripting, and storyboarding. Explore penciling, inking, coloring, space, and perspective through the use of a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional media, which may include colored pencils, oil pastels, watercolors, and handmade zines. Virtual visits to the Art Institute of Chicago and other online resources complement this studio course. Open to beginning students and those who want to continue developing their skills, previous drawing experience is helpful but not required.

Comics and Graphic Novels
Refund Policy A 100 percent tuition refund will be issued one week prior to the session start date. No refunds will be issued after this date. All requests must be submitted in writing to cs@saic.edu and include the student’s name, ID number, and course information. Refunds take four to six weeks to process. Note: Nonattendance does not constitute an official withdrawal, nor a cancellation of tuition and fees.
Cancellations and Schedule Changes Continuing Studies reserves the right to cancel or alter the fees, schedule, or staffing of courses when circumstances warrant. If a cancellation or change is necessary, students will be notified prior to the first class, and students enrolled in cancelled courses will have the option of taking another class or receiving a full refund.

Express yourself through drawing and learn a variety of techniques and approaches to build your technical, spatial, and creative abilities. Working with a range of materials, investigate contemporary subjects and themes through skills such as line, perspective, tone, proportion, composition, value, gesture, and contour. Visit the Art Institute of Chicago’s global collection virtually as inspiration for your own projects. This course is designed for beginning students as well as those who want to continue developing their skills and confidence in drawing and can be repeated for continued skill and idea building.
Fashion Design Projects Online: SU 10-1, 10/4-11/1 #2573 Online: SU 10-1, 11/8-12/13 #2574 Calling all young fashion designers! Discover your own style as you take your designs from concept to reality. Explore activities that guide you through the process of developing original ideas, finding inspiration for fashion in the world around you, and respond to the work of other artists and designers. As your designs develop, you will learn to enhance your projects with technical skills such as hand sewing, embroidery, and draping. Virtual visits to the Art Institute of Chicago and Flaxman Library provide inspiration and supplement the studio experience. Open to students at all levels, lessons and projects change each term.
