A Busy Fortnight Iain Parr Welcome to all from Chesham for tonight’s league fixture, which as before will be a very open attacking game. Chesham are always a very strong team and along with Hemel I believe are the two strongest teams in our league.
Competition for places I would like to welcome all the new players to the club (too many to mention by name) who have added experience, youth, strength to the squad and more impotently competition for a starting place in the team.
It is so very hard to sign players when you want them and seriously frustrating when you go to great lengths speaking to the players clubs only to find that they are not available. The Chairman’s View in this programme will cover that subject. We have had 2 great results over the last week and with 6 new signings at the beginning of the week of which 5 of those were involved in the 5-0 win over Hitchin Town showed just how well we played in that game.
Last Saturdays FA Trophy match against a rugged Halesowen side gave us a different style of opposition and we came through that game with I think plenty to spare, even though Halesowen were very confident after winning 11 of their last 12 games. A torrential down pour of rain could have been a leveller with Halesowen’s direct style of play but came to nothing as we completed the job in a very impressive manner. Of course we will not get over confident and have to be realistic in that the new squad will take some time to gel and i am expecting some 5 or 6 games for that to happen.
So lets all be very patient, we are not far off now and hopefully results just like our new signings will come very quickly. Lastly a special mention to all of the backroom staff Gary, Ben, Richard, Mick, Carol, Gary Wilson for their continued support over the last few very busy weeks. Also to Mike and Lee, but of course they are always supportive in what we are all trying to achieve for the club. On to tonight’s match.

Only 2 weeks ago because of injuries we could hardly field a team but the player market just seemed to open up (maybe the FA Cup had something to do with that) and the players we wanted become available.

With the addition of Gary, and Ben we now have a very balanced backroom staff that has vast knowledge of football that covers an extended knowledge of teams and players at this level. Add all this to the thriving youth policy, the under 21s development squad, the Apprenticeship Scheme, the new additions to the first team squad we can look to continue the progress of the club.

Playing in the FA Trophy for the first time since 1976 St Neots made a winning start with a comfortable victory over visiting Sutton Coldfield. There was a return to the side for Shane Tolley and he obliged with a second half goal but this was a genuine all round team performance with Stefan Moore and Pearson Mwanyongo impressive up front and Chris Hope looking invincible at the back. Adrian Sear gave another nonstop performance in midfield and it was difficult to detect a weak link which gives Manager Dennis Greene an interesting task with the return next weekend of Dan Jacob. The visitors are fourth in their league and it was understandable that the two sides looked fairly evenly matched in the first 45 minutes. There was an explosive start and the visitors could have been in front after just 50 seconds when James Quiggin crossed from the left and Dean Rathbone’s fierce volley was brilliantly pushed away by Michael Duggan. However not to be outdone Duggan’s opposite number Niall Cooper threw himself full length to parry a Pearson Mwanyongo shot curling into the top corner of his net. Sutton looked most dangerous at set pieces and three quick succession corners tested the St Neots defence with Rathbone and Craig Marshall both finishing off target. An opportunistic lobbed free kick from inside his own half by Chris Hope caught the visiting keeper off his line and he had to back peddle to push the ball over the bar but he was beaten after 32 minutes. Lewis Hilliard’s deep corner was headed back by Lewis Webb and Stefan Moore applied the finishing touch. Quiggin might have levelled the scores but with only Duggan to beat he skied the ball over the bar and St Neots finished the half strongly with
Cooper saving well from Hope and Mwanyongo stabbing the ball wide from close range. Two minutes after the restart Shane Tolley displayed his predatory striking ability when Stefan Moore collected a Mwanyongo through ball and set up his strike partner for his first goal since 13th September. This visibly deflated the visitors and for a while St Neots were able to slow the pace and dominate play. Sutton changed their tactics sending on an additional striker but they got little success against a stubborn St Neots defence. After 66 minutes another excellently executed goal effectively decided the contest. Again Mwanyongo came back into midfield to pick up the ball and he found Tolley whose first time flick played Stefan Moore clear and he outpaced his marker to score his eighth goal in just twelve games this season. Towards the end Sutton looked determined to get a consolation goal and James Reid went close and in injury time he made up for his miss driving home through a packed penalty area following a corner.

Few teams have six new players in their squad for a match at the start of a season but just over two months in St Neots had six new names on the team sheet for their Red Insure Cup match, two of whom started on the bench but made second half appearances. Eight days earlier St Neots had lost 4-0 in the league match at Hitchin but this was pay back time with interest as St Neots scored five times without reply to give then their first ever Southern League Cup victory. The result also equalled their best ever win as a Southern League Premier Division side and it was their third clean sheet of the season – all recorded at the Cozy Stadium. It was just as well Manager Iain Parr had been busy recruiting new players because he still had five first choice players on the injury list but this was remarkable victory with so many of the team playing together for the first time against a Hitchin side showing only two team changes from their League victory.
two defenders and Jake Woolley sped through to notch a debut goal. At the other end Conroy saved well from a Gary Wharton header and then from a Callum Donnelly cross Robbie Burns sent a close range header the wrong side of a post. However these were the only two real chances created by the visitors in what was a one-way first half. The second goal came after 35 minutes and was an exciting solo goal by Woolley who cut in from the right to beat two defenders and net from a narrow angle. With Hilliard and Davies dominating in midfield Hitchin had little to offer in the way of threatening attacking moves and the 2-0 score line at the break was no less than St Neots deserved.
Confident Start St Neots started really confidently as Lewis Hilliard, new boy Jake Woolley and Ed Adjei all shot narrowly wide as chances came and went. Hilliard then took a return pass from Matt Nolan but was only stopped by a great last ditch tackle by Dan Webb and it seemed only a matter of time before St Neots made the initial breakthrough. The much anticipated goal came after 17 minutes when Jay Davies threaded a ball between

However St Neots took a tight grip on the match with their third goal after 53 minutes as a long cross from the right sideline was totally misjudged by visiting goalkeeper David Hulman who saw the ball
creep past him to nestle inside the far post. Hitchin tried to reply and Niall Conroy produced two important saves to deny Michael King and Robbie Burns but St Neots were playing some very attractive one touch possession football and this never gave the visitors enough of the ball to be a significant threat. Matt Nolan had a shot pushed away by Hulman making amends for his earlier slip but it was Nolan who set up St Neots fourth goal collecting the ball with his back to goal and slipping the perfect pass into the path of Lewis Hilliard who finished the job with thirteen minutes left. There was still time for a third newcomer to feature on the score sheet as Joseph N’Guessan showed fine pace to collect a diagonal pass from Hilliard to compound Hitchin’s misery and put St Neots into the second round of the competition. Those supporters who chose to stay in and watch the England match on television missed a real treat !! John Walker

St Neots recorded their first ever away victory in the FA Trophy at their eighth attempt with a good all round display at Halesowen to make it two consecutive Cup victories in just five days.
Once again two of the three goals came from recent signings and there was a five star display in goal by Niall Conroy who was only beaten late in the game when the Northern Premier League (South) side claimed a consolation goal. The three St Neots players requiring fitness tests after missing the Hitchin cup match, skipper Gavin Hoyte, Adrian Sear and Leon Hibbert were all able to be included in the starting line up and in an open attacking match that created a host of scoring chances at either end the visitors thoroughly deserved their place in the second qualifying round. Goalkeeping Heroics Conroy began his heroics as early as the fourth minute when Thomas Tonks sent a through pass inside the final visiting defender and the pacey Ben Haseley with only the keeper to
beat tried to take the ball past him but Conroy timed his dive perfectly to get a hand to the ball and deflect it away from the forward. St Neots then settled into a pattern with their three midfield players Hibbert, Sear and Davies dominating the game which resulted in efforts from Lewis Hilliard, Jay Davies and Jake Woolley all going close to opening their account. Another Haseley effort was over the bar but after 24 minutes St Neots deservedly took the lead when from an inswinging Hilliard corner Dave Deeney rose to head home from the edge of the six yards box – his second goal in successive matches. Home keeper Paul Evans then produced two good saves to deny Hilliard and Woolley and although Conroy had to be alert to save a Iyseden Christie snap shot St Neots looked comfortably in control. They were further rewarded six minutes before the break when the hard working Jake Woolley sidestepped a defender close to the bye line to score the visitors’ second goal from a narrow angle – also his second goal of the week. Four minutes before the break as Halesowen tried to respond to this second setback Conroy produced two reaction saves from close range
efforts as the St Neots defence got in a tangle and that was to prove an important moment for the visitors. Singing in the rain After balmy first half weather the restart was in torrential rain which got harder and more persistent as the half progressed. It made the close passing game of St Neots very difficult to maintain and the home side scenting a chance pressed forward. For a spell they dominated the game with a Haseley shot rebounding from a post in their first attack after half time. Haseley then shot wide when well placed and defender Joe Hull up for a corner brought another important save from Conroy. Halesowen brought on Aaron Griffiths an additional attacker and his first touch was a deflected shot brilliantly tipped over the bar by Conroy who looked to be going the wrong way for the original shot. A goal during this spell of pressure could have altered the course of the match but St Neots produced the perfect answer as Hilliard’s fifty yards cross field pass on the break found Ed Adjei on the left and he neatly passed his marker before beating Evans with a low shot after 79 minutes. With ten minutes left St Neots seemed to relax and Halesowen deservedly snatched a late consolation goal when Hull headed firmly home from an Elliott Turner corner with just four minutes remaining. The second half torrential downpour of rain, with the saints winning comfortably by two goals and what can only be called a monsoon of rain, we kept our passing game together, weathered the storm not from Halesowen but the elements and ran out comfortable winners.
A great team performance but in Lewis Hilliard we had the old the player we all know back. He ran Halesowen ragged either on the wing or down the middle they just could not handle him.
A solid performance from a very capable team. We never looked like loosing this game and really seemed to have another gear to move up to. Considering Halesowen have won their last 11 out of 12 games we certainly overpowered them.

A Fortnight Is A Long Time At A Football Club Mike Green Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to Rowley Park – The Cozy Stadium.
We now have a squad full of experience and nobody is guaranteed of their starting place which is keeping everyone on their toes. Tonight sees us return to Calor League Premier Division action and our visitor’s for this evening’s game are Chesham United so we would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of ‘The Clarets’ and we hope you enjoy your brief stay with us before a safe return down into Buckinghamshire. I know it’s probably been said a million times before that ‘a fortnight is a very long time at a football club’ but in the case of ourselves, never has a truer word been spoken. Since the arrival of our new permanent and loan signings, our performances in the two games played, against Hitchin Town and
most recently, Halesowen Town, have been outstanding. I say this not just because we have got the right result in each game but because the work rate and effort of every single player has been top notch. We are now knocking the ball around, at pace, like we know we are fully capable of. We now have a squad full of experience and nobody is guaranteed of their starting place which is keeping everyone on their toes. When you consider in the Hitchin game Matt Nolan, Dave Deeney Jhai Dhillon, Jake Woolley and substitutes Mark Duckett and Joseph N’Guessan played with their new team mates in a competitive game for the first time, to win a game 5-0 is quite some feat.
Obviously these two games are in the past now and we must start getting some points on the board in the League but the victories have meant we have progressed in both the Red Insure League Cup and the FA Trophy, earning the Club a nice £2700 kitty in the process. The draw for the next rounds was due to have been made yesterday (Monday) so hopefully we have been given favourable ties in both competitions. A couple of observations from our Trophy tie up in Halesowen on Saturday. Firstly, This was my first viewing of our new away red strip and I thought the lads looked resplendent wearing it. Secondly, our fantastic travelling support was epitomised by the Lads (or lunatics) who stood in the wind and sheeting rain for the whole 90 minutes. This shows the depth of feeling these guys have for this fantastic football club and are a credit to us ALL. Saturday sees us make the long trip down to Bideford and at the time of writing, the departure time for the coach isn’t yet confirmed but I do know if you can’t join the merry band of Away Rabble, I’m sure your support will be very, very welcome here at The Cozy Stadium as Steve Kuhne’s Youth and Saints Under 21 side, sitting fourth in the United Counties League Division One, entertain second placed Harrowby United. Let’s hope we have now turned the proverbial corner and we can all get behind Iain, Gary and all the lads for what can still be a very successful season and also our under 18 and The Youth and Saints Under 21’s squads. A Game of Patience Mike Kearns Welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Chesham for tonights game. Chesham are currently placed in second position in the league so we know it will be a very stern test for us tonight. We have brought in many players over the last few weeks in fact I think it might be about eight new players.
The period between the start of the season and last weeks FA Cup round is the period that many clubs do what they call “front load their Budget” spending a large part of their years playing budget in the first quarter of the season in the hope that they can get a good FA Cup run and prize money to enable them to subsidise the clubs playing budget. A very dangerous game to play, what if it all goes wrong as it has for many clubs.
Now think back to the other weekend when we had to do that for five new players so that they could all be available to play the following night. All I can say to that is, many thanks to all involved behind the scenes to make this happen especially our
Secretary Gary Wilson. We have the players we wanted who are players who want to play for our club for the right reasons and we will still pursue more players that we feel will benefit our club. I welcome all of the new players and say goodbye to Rene Steer of whom we always knew would leave us at some stage. Those of you who have seen jhai Dhillon over the last two games will see that we have a very good replacement in jhai for Rene. We have had him in the background for quite a while with Stevenage Borough keeping us informed of his availability. Right on to tonight’s game and whatever the result we are moving in the right direction doing it the right way, so keep the faith in management and players alike as we will get to where we all want the club to be, it will not be tomorrow, it might be the next day, it might take even longer but really, what’s the big deal in that as long as we do get there. There are many clubs who don’t get there and many clubs who now will never have the chance of getting there, as they are no longer in existence.

Just last week I had a circular from a club in a higher league from us stating, because of our poor start to the season and going out of the FA Cup in the early stages we have to cut our budget and therefore we have the following players who are on contract available for transfer. How many players did they need to move on? Well it was eight players all on contract. I asked myself a couple of questions, what if they cannot move these players on, why do this in the first place, that clubs season has just finished and they will now need to fight for both football and financial safety. This goes on at many clubs but it will never happen at our club. We could have followed that route and be in the same position as some of these clubs.
So what happens now, a host of players become available hopefully on terms that are accepted by both parties. Where as over the last two months the demands of players has not been acceptable to our club. It was not an ideal position for us but a sensible one and good business practice. We have had to have patience in how we move our club forward and the process of signing new players is not an easy thing. We have to approach the players club by putting in a seven-day approach, then speak to the player and try and come to an agreement. If that happens there is all the paper work to do getting the player to sign the registration and transfer forms, getting his former club secretary and our club secretary to do the same. Then registering the player with the Calor league. In the case of loan players you have to do all of that and also register the player with the FA. Now the player, managers, secretary’s and most involved have to go to work and also find time to see all this through.

Welcome to our visitors this evening for our next engagement in the Calor Southern League Premier Division. This of course is our second season at Step Three and this will be our third meeting with Chesham United and we extend to their players, Directors and supporters our usual warm Cozy Stadium welcome. Chesham were the club who had the pleasure of hosting our first ever League match in the Premier Division on 18th August 2012 at The Meadow. We of course had great expectations of our debut and we took the lead after 21 minutes through Ben Mackey only for Bruce Wilson to level before the break. To the disappointment of our travelling

fans Chris Watters scored the winner in the second half. The return match here saw us turn the tables as Dan Jacob, Jay Davies and Gavin Hoyte were all on the score sheet for us with Simon Thomas notching Chesham’s consolation goal. That was Gavin’s only goal last season – let us hope he is back from injury to score another goal today.
Club History The story of Chesham United has many highs and many lows. It was formed in 1917 following the merger
of Chesham Town FC (who were founder members of the Southern League in 1894 when still known as just Chesham FC) and Chesham Generals (who took their name from the General Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway). Relative success in the following years paled into insignificance following the FA Amateur Cup run of 1967/68 when, against all the odds, little Chesham United went all the way from the Preliminary Round to the final of the FA Amateur Cup, finally losing 1-0 to Leytonstone in front of a 54,000 Wembley crowd. The 2010/2011 season marked the start of a new era for Chesham United. For some time the club’s Supporters’ Trust has been the largest shareholder and in June 2010 the other two majority shareholders, including the club Chairman, relinquished control of the club and handed over their voting rights to the fans’ representatives ahead of the Trust securing sufficient funds to purchase shares for outright ownership. So, we went into the new season as a truly supporters’ run football club looking forward to the challenge of re-establishing ourselves at Southern League Premier Division level after a four year absence. Last season Chesham finished fourth in the Premier Division to earn a place in the play-offs but lost by the odd goal in five to third placed Totton in the semi-final.

In the early 2000s the club again had an eye on promotion to the Conference as Bob Dowie led a strong Chesham side to 6th in the Ryman Premier, possibly an under achievement when considering the resources at his disposable. The team that year included Wayne Andrews and Fitz Hall, both players having progressed to enjoy professional careers in the higher echelons of football. Two years later and the club were once again relegated back to Division One.

In January 1991, promotion and the Isthmian League Division One title were secured. In its inaugural season, the Loctite Final was reached but the match was lost to Bishops Stortford on penalties. In October 1992, the Club went to the very top of the Isthmian league after a famous win at Enfield, where they remained until the end of the season, being crowned Champions on the last day of the season following a 4-0 win over Dulwich Hamlet. Witnessed by an average home gate of just short of 1,000, the season also saw the arrival of ex-Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson. Promotion to the National Conference depended on ground improvements that could not be afforded. So, the season ended in disappointment after so much hard work.
Exit the M25 at junction 18, and follow the A404 to Amersham. On approaching Amersham, take the A416 signposted to Chesham. You will enter Chesham along Amersham hill. Take a very sharp left at the roundabout into the ground.

Shane Gore (Goalkeeper): Shane signed for Chesham in the summer of 2010, following his release from Luton Town. Was rated in the top 4 Non-League keepers by the BBC Non-League Show in 2009. Shane has also played for Havant & Waterlooville, Barnet and Maidenhead United. Is also twice a winner of the Fans’ Player of the Season Award at Chesham United. In the summer of 2013. John Kyriacou (Defender): A defender now in his second spell with the club after re-joining from Wingate & Finchley in December 2012. John joined for his first spell in the summer of 2008, and stayed until the summer of 2012. A former Tottenham trainee who also has had spells at Brentford and in Cyprus. Mark Lambert (Defender): Mark is also in his second spell with the club having re-joined in the summer of 2009 having left for Oxford City in December 2008. Can play in defence or midfield and is a fans’ favourite at The Meadow, having made over 250 appearances for the club. Laurie Stewart (Defender): Centre half who joined Chesham from Hitchin Town in the summer of 2013. Was Hitchin Town’s Player of the Season for the 2011/12 season, having joined from Harlow Town the previous summer. Laurie has also played for Ware, Cambridge City and Bishops Stortford.

A Watford-born centre-half, Alex joined Slough from Walton Casuals ahead of the 2011/12 season, and was immediately a hit with the Slough faithful and also received the manager’s player of the season award. James Quinn (Defender): A former Torquay United youth player who joined Chesham United in the summer of 2012. Featured on a regular basis for Chesham United’s Reserve Team in the South Midlands League, and will be looking to make the step up this season. Scott Thomas (Midfielder): Versatile player who joined from Hemel Hempstead Town in the summer of 2011. Had previously played for Windsor & Eton prior to their demise, where he helped them to the Southern League S&W Championship in the 2009/10 season. Bruce Wilson (Midfielder): Versatile goal-scoring midfielder who followed Scott Thomas to The Meadow in 2011. Also won the Southern League S&W Championship with Windsor & Eton in the 2009/10 season and has also played for Leighton Town.
Daniel Brathwaite (Defender): A versatile defender who re-joined the club for his third spell in the summer of 2013. Previously signed for Chesham in March 2003, and played 11 games for the club before leaving that summer.
Dave Fotheringham (Midfielder): A former Chesham United youth player, Fotheringham has notched up over 400 appearances for the club. Dave made his debut in 2002, but left in 2005 for Hemel Hempstead Town then Maidenhead United. Returned in the summer of 2007 and is a favourite with the Chesham supporters for his inexhaustible work rate and is the current vice-captain.
Danny Gordon (Defender): A 31-year-old former Aylesbury United youth player who stepped into their first team in 1999. Left for Staines Town in 2004 where he played for 8 years, the last as the club captain. Played for St Albans City and Arlesey Town last season, before joining Chesham where his versatility offers good options.
Steve Wales (Midfielder): An exciting attacking midfield player who often plays in wide positions. Steve joined from Hemel Hempstead Town in the summer of 2009, having played for Cheshunt, Boreham Wood, AFC Wimbledon and Yeading. Steve has represented England and the FA at representative level.
Alex Brown (Defender): At 6 foot 6, offers an imposing presence in

Toby Little (Midfielder): Toby is a left-sided player who joined from Basingstoke Town in October 2012. Toby has spent the majority of his career at Steps 1 and 2, playing for Woking and Hayes. Chris Mason (Midfielder): Chris won the reserves player of the season award last season after impressing with his performances from central midfield. Will be keen to break into the first-team squad in the 2013/14 season. Jack Read (Forward): A young forward who has progressed into the first team squad having come through the Queens Academy in Bushey, where Chesham United have a link, and then progressed through the reserve team set-up. Inih Effiong (Forward): A strong and powerful forward, who signed an 18-month contract with Chesham United in December 2012. Chris Dillon (Forward): An experienced forward who joined Chesham from Arlesey Town in the summer of 2013, having scored 21 goals for them in total in the 2012/13 season. A regular goalscorer at all clubs he has played for, Chris had played for Hitchin Town, Bedford Town, Hemel Hempstead Town and Nuneaton Town. Drew Roberts (Forward): Another experienced, prolific goalscorer who followed Chris Dillon to The Meadow for this season. Drew scored 31 goals for Arlesey Town last season, having scored 34 for Bedford Town the year before.
Full Name: Dennis Nicolaas Maria Bergkamp Date of Birth: 10/05/1969 Dennis Bergkamp is one of the many success stories to come out of the Ajax youth system and is still one of the greatest foreign imports the English Premier League has ever seen. Never failing to display a lesson in “Dutch Masterclass”, the striker had an illustrious career picking up many honours in England and his native Holland. The Early Years Bergkamp was born in Amsterdam in 1969 and football was injected into his blood from the start. He grew up with a family who were football fanatics, so he got plenty of practice playing with his brothers. It is said that Dennis was named after the Manchester United great Denis Law, but the spelling was changed to stop confusion, with the Dutch spelling denoting the girl’s name “Denise”. His family were Manchester United fans and often holidayed in England. Growing up, his favourite player was Tottenham Hotspur’s Glenn Hoddle, so it may seem bizarre to some that he went on to become an Arsenal legend! Prodigy of Ajax Bergkamp played behind the strikers at Ajax and in his time there he scored an impressive 122 goals in 239 games. Ajax paved the way for future successes but he had to endure a torrid time in Italy beforehand. The Iceman at Inter His time in Italy started well when he won the UEFA Cup for the second time in his career, but everything went downhill from there. Fallouts within the Inter squad and with the Milan media led to Bergkamp’s departure from the Italian giants after just two seasons. Thankfully
for Holland, this time at Inter didn’t affect the form he displayed for the national side.

The National Side Bergkamp had a remarkable career for his national side and is up there on the list of top goal scorers for the national team. His impressive record stands at 37 goals in 79 games, a record that has only been beaten by Patrick Kluivert.
Unfortunately, Bergkamp was afraid of flying due to an incident with the Dutch national team. He was unable to travel to a lot of Arsenal’s Champions League games and was a huge miss because he was a vital part of the attacking free flowing football that the Gunners liked to play.
Arsenal After a troubled two seasons at Inter Milan, Arsenal paid a club record fee of £7.5 million in the summer of 1995 for Bergkamp. This was to be the start of something great for the club, and the Dutchman. He was crowned with the number 10 shirt and graced Highbury with his talent and ability to change a game with a single pass. Bergkamp was known for scoring spectacular goals in his time at Highbury and won the Premier League’s Goal of the Season award twice. His most famous goal for Arsenal was in the 2001/02 season against Newcastle. The Dutchman executed a turn which has never been seen before and in true
Arsenal said their goodbyes to hero Dennis Bergkamp on July 22, 2006. This was the first game to be played at the new Emirates Stadium and 54,000 people turned out to watch the Iceman pull on the red and white shirt for the last time. The game was fittingly between an Arsenal XI and an Ajax XI and every fan who watched the game was given a t-shirt specially made for the day. People who took part in the testimonial were Bergkamp’s ex colleague and friend Marc Overmars, ex Holland legends Marco Van Basten, Frank Rijkaard and Johan Cruyff.

Edd is 21 years old and a versatile left sided player who is comfortable playing at either full back or left midfield, or indeed up front as the second striker. Again a young player under 21 years old Edd has developed into a first class footballer who just loves playing football.
Dave joined us from Kettering Town who he only joined this season. Dave has previously played for Arlesey Town of whom he played under our Assistant manager Gary King. Dave is a big voice in the dressing room and his will to win will keep the dressing room buzzing.

Theo a 25 year old left back or wide midfielder, who has spent all of the last 18 months recovering from a serious injury. Theo showed just what an outstanding player he is in his come back game last season against Cambridge City. Unfortunately a re-occurrence of the same injury has sidelined him again.
Dan is 19 years old was signed at the beginning of season 2013. Having starting his career at Luton Town his last club was Kettering Town where he was very impressive in the games against us. A very strong centre half Dan, has impressed in pre-season and seems to have made the position his own.
Defender Jordy is 19 years old and plays mainly a centre half but he is also comfortable at full back. Currently finishing his education at Tresham Academy Jordy has played himself into the first team squad.

22 year old Lewis started his career with the Rushden and Diamonds, he then spent some time with Hemel Hempstead before joining St Neots Town. Lewis is now in his fourth season with the Saints having won two championships and numerous cups with the club. A two footed player who can play any midfield
Gavin joined the club just after the start of season 2012-2013. A player of great presence he plays at Centre half and after a settling in period began to dominate his position. Gavin is the second oldest player the squad at only 26 years old. Gavin has been given the role
position, a free-kick specialist who can score goals from anywhere on the pitch.
Jay Davies Midfielder Jay 21 has previously played for Peterborough United and Woking of whom we paid a transfer fee for his services in September 2012. A dynamic midfield playmaker Jay is only 21 years old but a maturity to see a pass way above his young age.
Liam Hurst Midfielder Liam signed a contract with Cambridge United just last season where he made a single first team appearance. He was on loan in the earlier part of the season with Corby Town but called back to United so as he could be loaned out to the Saints. A tenacious midfield player who likes to get forward and score goals. Liam is thought of very highly at Cambridge United and indeed at St Neots Town.
Ryan Sharman Midfielder Ryan a midfield utility player who is very comfortable on the ball has come through the youth teams being captain of the u18s for most of last season before breaking into the first team squad over the last part of last season. Ryan still only 18 years old has shown maturity way beyond his young age.

Striker Dion is one of our young guns, only 17 years old. A striker with a very good turn of pace and good goalscoring record for our U18s last season. Dion played himself into the first team, appearing in the winning Hunts Senior cup final team last season. Dion has impressed in preseason, scored a few goals and has won himself a place in this season’s first team squad.
Alasan Ann Striker Alasan was a scholar at Luton town until his release during the last post season. He joined Hitchin Town at the start of the season but was played out of position. Alasan is a very strong, young striker who is full of potential.
Striker Kaine is right midfield player with commanding pace. one of our outstanding young players Kaine broke into the first team last season at the tender age of just 18 years old. An injury stopped his progress and Kaine spent the whole of last season recovering. Having played some part in pre-season Kaine is now ready to regain his place in the first team squad for this season.
Matt Nolan Striker Matt Nolan or “Matty” is a proven prolific goalscorer, having played for Peterborough United, AFC Telford, and more recently Lowestoft Town where Matty was top goalscorer in the 2 seasons he played for them scoring over 70 goals. Matty is a great addition to our squad.

Adrian Is 28 years old and joined the club from Burnham at the beginning of the 2011-2012 where he won a championship medal as well as the Hinchinbrooke cup. He left the club for a couple of months in season 2012-2013 to try his luck at a higher level where he was quite outstanding, however because of budget restraints he returned to the Saints and slotted back into his old routine of giving it everything he had with a wonderful “We will never get beaten” attitude.

Brazil Nuts Ade Roberts It’s normally the referee that causes most of the delays in play during the game. However, it’s not always the man in the middle that halts the flow of play with his strange decisions and creates the frustration amongst the players and the fans alike. Even though those few added on minutes at the end of the game can sometimes give us hope of an equaliser or even a winner, we still don’t appreciate the frequent pauses in play. Other causes of breaks in play can just about deal with: acts of God, such as freak weather, animals making their way onto the pitch and even the odd streaker flaunting their bits for us all to see [more often than not, we’d rather not see, thank you]. Delays are sometimes caused by the players themselves as with the Macedonia goalkeeper recently during the World Cup qualifier against Scotland. Apparently for getting his gloves at the start of the second half. The referee however, restarted the game without realising that the keeper had failed to materialise for the second period! Surely the referee’s assistant would have noticed, being on the side of the pitch? It’s not like they have a great deal to do is it, other than pull at the nets now and again? The game was halted and then restarted as the keeper Tomislav Pacovski finished his half-time wee and made his way to his sticks. That would have been a classic moment if one of the Scotland strikers had picked up on his absence and smashed one in from the kick-off. They’d probably have still missed with the open goal! Even the club physio can halt play and not necessarily whilst seeing to an injured player’s first aid needs. During a recent Serie D in Brazil, the club physio caused bizarre scenes when he took to the field to defend the goal
and pulled off a cracking double save on the goal line to keep his team at 2-2 and consequently took them through to the cup semi-final as a result! He was chased from the pitch by the opposing team’s players and managed to make it to the tunnel without taking one of their lunging fists and feet. Amazingly, the result stood and it was enough to see his team through. The opposition are appealing to get the result overturned – and quite rightly so too! To be honest, to be involved in any interference in play during a Brazilian game of football would be totally out of the question for me. After all, did you hear about the Brazilian amateur match back in June of this year where the ref was beheaded on the pitch by players and supporters? That’s taking it to the extreme isn’t it? We all give the ref some [not so] friendly banter but this is unbelievable behaviour. He did bring it on himself though. Not through dodgy decisions
or showing any bias towards one particular team. The ref had in fact drawn a knife on one of the players and stabbed him after an altercation during the game. You can imagine this would be enough to rile the rest of his team mates to take action. They did, in the most unpleasant way imaginable. This took place in a small rural town called Centro de Meio where violence of any kind is very rare and there is little crime. With the 2014 World Cup tournament taking place in Brazil next summer, it doesn’t fill us with hope for the safety of fans does it? Rio De Janiro is already the murder capital of the world isn’t it? Let’s hope the only delays in play today are whilst our boys are involved in multiple goal celebrations to secure victory.

Were the U’s being outplayed on their own turf? Not quite. United beat Hereford 1-0 to go seven points clear at the top of the Conference Premier. It’s common for fans and managers to butt heads when the team are struggling for form. But this is a side that started the season with a 13 game unbeaten run – a club record. To be fair to Money, he has since come out and said it was “a ridiculous, over-exaggerated rant from a grumpy old fool.” That may well be, but the damage might already be done. Football fans don’t forget things in a hurry and this might have just soured
There have been somewhat similar instances elsewhere in Non-League too. Former Grimsby Town joint-boss Rob Scott was never afraid to show his feelings – and that included to his own fans. After a defeat to Darlington back in 2011, Scott went towards a section of the home crowd and had a verbal “discussion” with a certain supporter. Scott departed the Mariners last month to leave Paul Hurst in sole charge. Only recently did Ian Bogie quit Stockport County after admitting that “the venom that was spouted at myself and the players, which I’ve heard in a number of games, is not on.” You could perhaps forgive County fans for being a bit more raucous than most with the rapid demise they have suffered. On the same note, you can’t blame bosses like Bogie. These managers have full-time jobs
and then have the added pressure of handling a part-time football team so abuse is the last thing they want or need. And they’ll all tell you that there’s no such thing as part-time in Non-League football. There have also been more high profile falling outs. Roy Keane famously told Sunderland fans to stay away from him and then left the Black Cats just three months later. Gary Megson is another who has failed to win over supporters wherever he has gone, partly down to his style of play. He once labelled Bolton fans “pathetic” and later said “I liked Bolton as a club, but the fans didn’t like me. I don’t particularly like them either.” The relationship a boss has with his players is obviously massive. But so is his rapport with the fans. It’s clear to see that discouraging supporters lead to questions being asked by the board. And in this day and age of panic throughout football, it’s the last thing managers need.

A round up of the results from the recent League and Cup action that matters FA Trophy First Round Qualifying Weekend Action In the all Calor League ties there were home victories for Burnham, 2-1 against Paulton Rovers, Chippenham Town, who defeated Chertsey Town 3-0, Daventry Town, who came from behind to beat Corby Town 2-1, Egham Town, 3-2 over Cirencester Town with all the goals coming in the first half, Hungerford Town, who went three up in twenty four minutes on the way to a 4-2 success against Bashley, Marlow, who recovered from a goal down and scored three in the last fifteen minutes to defeat North Leigh 4-1, North Greenford United who, after trailing from the eighteenth minute scored six minutes from time and secured a 2-1 win over Aylesbury with a winner in time added on, Stourbridge, who defeated Banbury United 3-2 with a goal in the final minute, Tiverton Town who, having taken a sixth minute lead, needed an own goal eight minutes from time and a strike in time added on to overcome Truro City 3-2, and Weymouth, who defeated Bridgwater Town 1-0. There were away wins for Clevedon Town, 2-1 at AFC Totton, Chesham United, 1-0 at Biggleswade Town, St Ives Town, 1-0 at Kettering Town, Mangotsfield United 2-0 with a goal in each half at Shortwood United, Merthyr Town, who came from behind and secured a 2-1 victory at Slough Town with a goal five minutes from time, and Bideford Town who, having raced into a two goal lead in the opening ten minutes, conceded two penalties before the interval but scored again twenty minutes from the end to win 3-2 at Swindon Supermarine while Frome Town, ahead on the stroke of half time, conceded a penalty twenty minutes from time to draw 1-1 at home with Poole Town. Arlesey Town, two up at the interval, won 3-0 at home against Waltham Abbey while Dunstable Town, two behind at half time, hit back after the break and scored three minutes from time to win 3-2 at home against Peacehaven & Testcombe, and St Neots Town, two ahead at the break, won 3-1 at Halesowen Town. Hemel Hempstead Town scored three times in the first half on the way to a 3-2 home win over AFC Hornchurch while Cambridge City came from behind to win 2-1 at King’s Lynn and St Albans City, a goal in front at half time, secured a comfortable 3-0 victory at Witham Town. Bedford Town drew 1-1 at Hampton & Richmond Borough and Potters Bar Town, reduced to nine men, drew 2-2 at ten man Whitstable Town while Hitchin Town, two ahead at half time, conceded a goal seven minutes after the break before hosts Wingate & Finchley secured
a 2-2 draw with a penalty in time added on. Aylesbury United went out 1-0 at home to Ramsgate, AFC Hayes conceded two first half goals at Chatham Town to lose 2-0, and Evesham United lost 2-0 at home to Leek Town. Redditch United came from behind to lead 2-1 only for their home tie with Chasetown to be abandoned with eight minutes remaining following a freak storm which waterlogged the pitch.
Division One Central Weekend Action Rugby Town, ahead after nine minutes and two up with twenty minutes remaining, moved up to fourth when they wrapped up a 4-1 victory at third in the table Barton Rovers with two late goals after the home side had pulled one back five minutes from the end while Uxbridge went behind six minutes into the second half but went on to win 5-1 at home against Ashford Town (Middx) and Leighton Town, a goal behind on the half hour but level at the break, scored in the final minute to win 3-2 at Chalfont St Peter and move out of bottom place.
FA Trophy First Round Qualifying Replays Midweek Matches On Monday, Hitchin Town conceded a goal six minutes before the break to go out 1-0 at home to Wingate & Finchley and Potters Bar Town, a goal ahead at the interval, conceded two goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half to lose 2-1 at home to Whitstable Town.
Premier Division Midweek Matches On Monday, leaders Hemel Hempstead Town, behind in the tenth minute but level shortly before half time, went behind again with twelve minutes remaining but snatched a point from a 2-2 draw with a goal in time added on at St Albans City.
Red Insure Cup First Round Midweek Matches On Monday, Kettering Town, ahead on the stroke of half time, scored three times in the opening eleven minutes of the second half on the way to completing a resounding 5-0 home win over Daventry Town.

AFC Totton EX-SOUTHAMPTON STAR HELPS OUT STAGS While manager Steve Riley and his assistant Chris Ferrett were out watching future opponents last Saturday, Calor League Southern Premier Division club AFC Totton fielded a familiar face in their reserves. Ex-Southampton and Norway international Jo Tessem turned out for the Stags’ second string in their 10-1 Southampton Senior Cup crushing of Hedge End Town. And the locally-based 41-year-old was back at the club on Tuesday as the Stags geared up for today’s FA Trophy First Qualifying Round test at home to Clevedon Town with a first-versus-reserves training match.
Poole Town TIME RUNNING OUT FOR POOLE Vice-chairman Chris Reeves warned council chiefs that time was running out for Poole Town’s ground improvements and ...that delays were costing the Calor League Southern Premier Division club money.
Poole, who have secured funding from the Football Foundation to help with up to half of the estimated £300,000 cost, have until March 31st to achieve the FA’s `C` grade.
Bashley BASH CONFIRM PYATT APPOINTMENT Last weekend, a mis-timed announcement about a move of John Pyatt from Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) club Brockenhurst to Bashley came as a complete surprise to most at the Calor League Southern Premier Division, but all’s well that ends well. When proper discussions got started, it actually turned out to be a very sensible idea. After an amicable and constructive meeting between Bashley chairman Mike Cranidge and John Pyatt, plus the agreement of Bashley’s Executive Committee, Pyatt has joined the club as joint-manager alongside Paul Gazzard.

Kettering Town
Relieved Kettering Town, who were saved from going under at the High Court on Monday, have pulled off something of a coup by persuading striker Scott Cross to join them from Calor League Southern Division One Central rivals and leaders Daventry Town. Cross, 25, was originally with Northampton Town, for whom he made a handful of League appearances and also had a spell on loan with the Poppies as well as Rugby Town and Bedford Town.
Hinckley United PHOENIX WILL RISE AT HINCKLEY It`s game over for Hinckley United as the cash-strapped Calor League Southern Premier Division club went into Liquidation with debts of more than £200,000. The club’s final game was last Saturday, with the Knitters losing 3-0 to Chesham United. But like a phoenix from the ashes, it is hoped a new club can be formed from the wreckage of the old one.
