Long-Term Objective Ian Parr Welcome to Wroham, players, staff and supporters. Here we are again, taking part in the FA Cup the most exiting cup competition in the country. Today we face a well organised Wroxham team that will be another tough test to character and work ethic.

Last Saturday I came away from Hemel Hempstead feeling like we had just been beaten by a team that will win the league. Hard to beat We set ourselves up to be hard to beat and hit them on the counter and for an hour we were in the game, Hemel had the better chances but we had a couple of opportunities to test the keeper but failed to find the target. We competed well against a strong organised experienced team that are the best I’ve seen in this league since my time at the club. We finished the 1st half on top and could of done with another 5 minutes as we were playing some good stuff in the final third, we didn’t come out with same tempo and to be fair Hemel took hold of the game and put us under pressure.

The support and encouragement from the crowd was fantastic at Hemel and I truly believe most people are starting to understand the long term objective of the club but it is important that we continue to compete and play our football and start winning games as they deserve it as much as the players.

We are aware of areas we need to strengthen and believe me there is a lot of work being done to bring in players to strengthen the squad. I would like to wish Andy Davies all the best after stepping down this week from the managment team. Andy is a great coach, trusting friend and will be missed by all the players and staff at the club, the place will not be the same without him and I’m sure he’ll appear behind the goal supporting the lads and mixing in with the rabble!! Good luck!!

Let’s get behind the players at every opportnity and help them through this difficult time, we are working hard during games and I’m convinced our luck will change and results will come our way.

St Neots bowed out of the FA Cup in an incident packed match under the glare of the Sky Television cameras but will have few complaints. Hemel are one grade higher in the pyramid playing their football in the Southern League and were therefore expected to win but St Neots gave as good as they got but lacked that important final touch in front of goal. Player/manager Steve Kuhne admitted that his side had not deserved to win. ‘The difference in class showed when it mattered’ he said. However had St Neots been able to convert their half chances notably from set piece crosses the result could have been different. In the first twenty minutes St Neots shaded the game although they conceded a goal against the run of play during that period. Two free kicks from Russell Lawes created the first chances of the game. After just sixty five seconds visiting keeper Stephen Smith was only able to parry his first kick from 30 yards but there was no one to follow up and six minutes later Gary Watts headed his second cross into the side netting. Then after ten minutes and in their first real attack the visitors went ahead as Stephen Hale produced a fine burst of speed to outpace the last St Neots defender and slot the ball wide of Stephan Shamilan. Undeterred St Neots continued to attack with Peter Gatti having a shot well saved and Nicky Hurst heading over the bar from another Lawes free kick. Simon Claridge wriggled free but also shot off target and in the first half hour St Neots had created six chances to two for the visitors. The balance of play swung in the last quarter hour of the first half. Shamilan twice saved well from Fabio Valenti and Andy Findlay and Nathan Buckland cleared off the line as Hemel upped their game. Probably the most

significant moment came after 31 minutes when from a Valenti corner Mathew Glyn produced a stunning volley from thirty yards that flew into the top corner of the net with Shamilan rooted to the spot. It was a goal worthy of a match winner but there was still much more to come. Five minutes later speedy full back Abdulai Yoki overlapped to cross for Andy Findlay to tap in a third visitors’ goal from a loose ball after Shamilan had stretched too far to gather. St Neots rallied and three minutes before the break yet another Lawes free kick found the head of Kuhne who headed back and Gary Walker claimed his second goal of the season to keep his side in the match The pace understandably dropped after the break. Two more free kicks produced St Neots half chances but both Kuhne and Hurst headed wide of the target and with 24 minutes left St Neots threw caution to the wind introducing a third striker with Mark Phillips replacing Cameron Clark. This left gaps further back but St Neots were determined to go out fighting and another substitute Mark Franklin almost reduced the arrears after a fine run but Smith saved with his feet going the wrong way. Then after 71 minutes Andy Findlay was sent off by the referee for using foul language to describe one of the decisions by the Referee. Reduced to ten men Hemel swiftly reorganised bringing on experienced striker Grant Carney to forage up front alone. Another header by Nicky Hurst from a corner was off-target as St Neots continued to press but predictably their bravery was their downfall as against the run of play Carney broke clear to score the fourth Hemel goal and put the finishing touches to a well-executed victory.

The St Neots faithful were stunned to hear an announcement of the departure of three of the first team squad ‘by mutual agreement’ when the team was revealed. Close season high profile signings Joe Benjamin and Paul Rodgers along with Ashley Fuller had all left following the weekend match and this led to a reshaping of the side with no fewer than five changes. Into the side came goalkeeper Niall Conroy for his first senior game of the season along with Jordi Nkinga, Ryan Sharman, Bobby-Joe Taylor and Ola Sogbanmu – the latter out since the first day with injury. Overall the changes seemed to add balance but the persistent tactics of a 4-5-1 formation meant that fewer chances were created in the opposition penalty area. However the bottom line was that a fifth defeat in six League matches leaves the side searching not only for points but also for a confidence boost.

through the half when in a spell of three minutes St Neots created their best two chances of the entire match. After 22 minutes neat inter-play on the left between Rene Steer and Lewis Hilliard set up Ryan Sharman and his shot brought the save of the match from Walker. Three minutes later Hilliard unleashed one of his trade mark shots from outside the area and again Walker rose to the occasion with an excellent save to keep his goal intact. The contrasting styles of the two sides was apparent as the half wore on with St Neots’ neat swift moving passing taking them to the edge of the Corby penalty area whilst the home side relied on the long ball over the defence that was well policed by Gavin Hoyte and Dan Crowie.

Thorn in the side It was a fairly evenly contested goalless first half with St Neots creating the better chances but failing to find the net. Corby striker Tom Berwick was an early thorn in the side of the St Neots defence twice bringing Conroy into early action and a snap shot from Jay Davies saw a save at full stretch by Paul Walker. A mistake by Dan Crowie let in David Moyo but Conroy will have boosted his personal confidence with an important reaction save. However scoring chances were fairly rare until midway

Significant change The half time introduction of Corby substitute Josh Moreman was to prove significant. He gave the side width and an additional attacking option and twice in the ten minutes after the restart Tom Berwick forced

However after 63 minutes Moyo and Berwick combined on the left side of the bye line and the latter crossed over the face of goal for Moreman to force the ball in at the far post for what proved to be the match winning goal. St Neots seemed unable to respond and apart from one Sharman header over the bar from a corner they created little. They sent on Ed Adjei for Taylor in a straight swap and it was not until five minutes from time that two additional attacking players were introduced (one of them new signing Kieran Joseph from Kettering Town) but by then it was too late. The referee rightly added four minutes to counteract some blatant Corby time wasting but even that failed to produce a significant St Neots response. So after this disappointing start to the season it is now all about building team confidence – and quickly. John Walker

Once again the performance up to the edge of the opponents’ penalty area was generally solid but the home keeper was never really tested. St Neots line up was almost unchanged from the previous match – just Ed Adjei preferred to Bobby Joe Taylor on the left flank but the real positive from the match for St Neots was the performance in goal of Niall Conroy whose heroics saved his side from a bigger defeat. Another consolation in defeat is that the ambitious well funded Hemel side were clearly the best side St Neots have played so far this season and they look well placed at this early stage to at least equal their play off final berth last season.

St Neots created the first chance after the restart Sharman and Davies combined to set up Ola Sogbanmu but his volley was too high. However the pressure was building

on the overworked St Neots defence and after 50 minutes Mackey took advantage of a defensive deflection to send a short pass to David Hutton and he set up the unmarked Toomey to open the scoring. Sharman then shot over the bar but that was his last involvement as he was sacrificed to bring on Karl Safee as St Neots reverted to a more positive 4-4-2 as they sought an equaliser. However it was Hemel who continued to create the better chances as Conroy first tipped a searing Hutton shot over the bar and then went full length to push away a Mackey shot. Then after 67 minutes the St Neots defence were caught square as Pearce threaded a delightful pass through and Toomey’s pace took him clear to double his sides’ lead. Final throw of the dice St Neots final throw of the dice was to send of Dion Sembie-Ferris for the tiring Sogbanmu and although he and Safee gave the Hemel defence more to think about the only real chance for the visitors to find a consolation goal was when Davies and Hilliard combined to set up Safee and surrounded by defenders he sent his shot into the side netting.

A busy keeper The first chance fell to Lewis Toomey after clever play by a slimmer Ben Mackay but he blasted the ball over the bar – the first of his three first chance misses. St Neots did manage one early opening but forging through the home defence Adrian Sear was off balance when he too put the ball over the top. Naill Conroy was destined for a busy match and after 19 minutes he stood up to grasp a lob from Dave Pearce after he had gone clear of the defence. Against the wind and the slight slope St Neots decided to employ a 4-5-1 line up in the first half and this served them well in containing the Hemel attack. Lewis Hilliard shot over from a narrow angle and Toomey was prevented from opening the scoring when he delayed his shot and Jordi Nkinga produced a great tackle to block his effort. Conroy then saved well from Mackey and twice punched clear under pressure and in time added on after 45 minutes Mackey wriggled clear of the defence only to be denied by another important Conroy save.

Gavin Hoyte Gavin joined the club just after the start of season 2012-2013. A player of great presence he plays at centre half and after a settling in period began to dominate his position. Gavin is the second oldest player the squad at only 26 years old. Gavin has been given the role of Club Captain of which he certainly leads by example.

The Magic Of The Best Club Cup Competition In The World Mike Green Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Rowley Park – The Cozy Stadium, home of St. Neots Town Football Club, for today’s Football Association Challenge Cup with Budwieser, First Qualifying Round Tie.

...I’m sure you will join me in thanking Andy for everything he has helped us achieve both on and off the pitch and wish him all the very best for the future. Today we extend a very warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of our opponents, Ryman League Division One North side Wroxham FC and we hope you all enjoy your brief stay with us before embarking on a safe journey back to Norfolk. A welcome distraction Today brings a welcome distraction from Southern League action for the lads after a couple of weeks where we have performed reasonably well but haven’t managed to put the ball into the other teams’ net. Since our last game here against Redditch

United, we have, as you are probably all aware, released Paul Rodgers, Joe Benjamin and Ash Fuller and goalkeeper Dan Heath’s loan spell has expired so I’m sure you will join me in thanking the lads for their efforts whilst here at Rowley Park and wish them all the best in their footballing futures. Also leaving the Club in the last few days is Assistant Manager Andy Davies, who can no longer commit the time needed to fulfil the role. Again, I’m sure you will join me in thanking Andy for everything he has helped us achieve both on and off the pitch and wish him all the very best for the future.

Our Under 18s have begun their Thurlow NunnYouth League Western Division campaign with a win and a defeat in their opening two games prior to Thursday evening’s local derby here at Rowley Park when we were due to entertain St. Ives Town FC. The lads beat Chatteris Town 5-0 here in the season opener and then lost narrowly at Peterborough Northern Star 2-1 the following week. Don’t forget that admission is free for all Thurlow Nunn League and Cup games once again this season but there will be a charge for our FA Youth Cup tie with Cogenhoe United. Fantastic football St Neots Town Youth and Saints FC have an abundance of teams representing them this season, from the Under 21’s right down to Under 8’s and that means there’s plenty of football to watch. Attendances for the Under 21’s are averaging around the 72 mark so far and those present at their games have been served up some fantastic football so if you can’t make first team away games, then please do come down and support the ‘Saints’ if they are playing at home. £3000 prize Ok then, back to today’s game and the magic of the best club cup competition in the world. It would be fantastic to have a decent run in this year’s competition and of course, a victory today would also earn us a nice £3,000 prize and let’s not forget that Cambridge City netted themselves a reputed prize fund last season in excess of £150,000 after their home game with MK Dons was televised live. A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Gordon Banks Full name: Gordon Banks   Date of birth: 30/12/1937 There have only been a few goalkeepers throughout the course of football history that have become household names. Gordon Banks is certainly one of them though. The 6 foot Yorkshire man would wow the crowds, weekend after weekend, with his ape-like athleticism and his uncanny ability to fly across his goal mouth. Never has a goalie been remembered for one particular save either but football fans will never forget Banks flying across the goal to stop a certain Pele from scoring. Banks literally seemed to claw the bouncing ball from behind the line. It went down as one of the greatest saves the world has ever seen whilst Banks went down as one of the greatest goalies the world had ever seen. The Leicester boy before Lineker When Gordon signed for Leicester, he didn’t immediately don the number 1 shirt. The first team regular in goal back then was Dave McLaren, but, when McLaren incurred an injury during a clash with Blackpool in 1959, Banks was given the chance to shine and shine he certainly did. Banks would go on to spend the next 6 years in the Leicester goal, making 293 appearances and saving countless goals. He helped Leicester reach the FA Cup final in 1961 by beating Sheffield United in the semis. In 1964, Banks and Leicester were back in the FA Cup final and this time they faced a rather unbelievable opponent. The Manchester United players who had survived the tragic Munich air disaster had picked themselves up and, with their hero of a manger Matt Busby, had reached the FA Cup final against all odds. No team would have been able to avoid wishing them well but Leicester had

a cup opportunity so they had to go for it. Sadly Banks had a stinker of a game and on a couple of occasions he split the ball and allowed the likes of Denis Law and David Herd to score and see United win the game 3-1. Another opportunity for a medal and a cup to lift went begging. But then things were all about to change for the Yorkshire man and in quite dramatic circumstances. 1966 Gordon Banks will always be remembered as England’s goalkeeping hero. If you found yourself in an England shirt in 1966 there was always a chance you would become a legend. The World Cup began brilliantly for Banks, who didn’t concede a single goal in the three qualifying games and wasn’t ever really called on to make any of his trademark monkey saves. Then came the final to end all finals: England on their home soil against West Germany. It was to be Geoff Hurst’s day that day and no one else’s. He scored for England and then again to make his tally three and the final score 4-2 to England. Banks had done his country proud and his

reward was being able to hold the World Cup trophy. The aftermath Even though he was technically now the best goalkeeper in the world, Banks would return to playing for Leicester, only to find his number 1 shirt under serious threat from a young and much touted goalie at Leicester, called Peter Shilton. Shilton only agreed to remain at the club if he was number 1 and so Banks was released and sold to Stoke City. With Stoke, Banks never quite achieved the success he had hoped for and nearly achieved with Leicester at club level. The end of an era Banks lost control of his car and crashed whilst on his way back from Stoke in 1972. He survived but woke up to the loss of his sight in his right eye. There was really no way he could continue playing after this and he sadly had to relinquish his number 1 shirt with England. In 2002 Banks was included in the English Football Hall of Fame and for many is seen as the greatest goalkeeper we have ever had.

Frustrations Shared Mike Kearns Welcome to the Officials, players and supporters from Wroxham for todays FA Cup game. I hope you enjoy your stay with us. First a special mention for Andy Davies and a massive thank you for all he has done for the club. Thank you Andy and we all wish you every success in what ever you have decided to do.

Three of the best I have mentioned before that we did go for three of the best strikers that were in step 3 last season. Negotiations just went on and on before two of them decided to take offers we could not match. The other one went to a club at a higher level. That left us limited time to bring in other players.

Finance is always a problem and our club is no different from any other, some clubs just go for broke and spend more than they can afford by offering a player quite ridiculous wages, we just cannot do that under any circumstances. We have been there and it is not the way to move forward. Supporters talk about our previous players and why did they leave. It is quite simple really they

were very expensive footballers and “They did not want to play for the club anymore” they wanted to try elsewhere just like any other job. Cutting ones cloth We have published in a recent programme the last three seasons attendance statistics and they hold up well season upon season of which included two promotions. I have stated before that for this club to sustain that success we needed more support through the turnstiles, this did not increase on our second promotion season or indeed at step 3 football so we have had to cut our cloth accordingly. Supporters can always say, give us success and you will get the increased support. Well we did that and it never happened. Some say reduce the admission to get more in, to us that’s not practical. I have even heard, let new support in for free for the first game. Well I say “why” what about our loyal supporters who come every week and pay there admission. To me that’s

just a kick in the teeth to them. Marketing the club to gain more support. We have done that with banners all around town at a huge cost and many other incentives. Football is not like going to the cinema people either go to watch football or they do not. The best way of getting new support is what we have been saying for a very long time “Bring a mate and double the gate.” This club is still very much in working progress run by proven professional business people. Decisions are made by people who have put serious time, effort and finance into the club, I very much doubt if you can get better than that. Please get behind Iain and the team, support the club with your heart. We all want the same thing its just that some people want it at any cost and when it all goes wrong they say its not us it was them.

It really is not a case of ‘hello sign here’, it takes weeks of negotiations. If we are interested in a player who is not on contract then we have to give his present club a clear seven days notice before we can even talk to the player. Top strikers are on contract of which makes it even more difficult to sign.

The season so far has not been that great and we fully understand supporter’s frustrations because we share those same frustrations. We work very hard at bringing the right players to the club and in the case of strikers it can be quite impossible to sign a striker that wants to play for the club first and his financial package second.

Wroxham won the Ridgeons (Eastern Counties) League the season before last to earn a place at step four of the football pyramid for the first time. Last season they competed in the Ryman Isthmian League North and finished fifteenth well clear of the relegation zone.

A special welcome to our visitors this afternoon for our first match this season in the FA Cup competition. Wroxham reached this first Qualifying Round stage by defeating Peterborough Northern Star two weeks ago. By coincidence Northern Star were our visitors here last season at this stage of the competition. We have pleasure in welcoming the players, officials and supporters of Wroxham to St Neots for the first time ever and we hope they enjoy their brief stay prior to a safe trip back to Norfolk. Last season our visitors lost at home in the First Qualifying Round 0-5 to Brentwood after beating Great Wakering Rovers in the Preliminary Round but two seasons ago they reached the Third Qualifying Round

losing 1-3 at Dover Athletic after beating Concord Rangers, Wisbech Town and Long Melford in the previous rounds. This season they defeated Peterborough Northern Star 4-2 two weeks ago to earn their trip here today.

Club History Wroxham FC were established in 1892 by GE Preston, a former captain of the Norfolk County team, and initially played on Wroxham Park. The club played friendly matches until joining the East Norfolk League and the Norwich City Junior League. In 1935 they joined the East Anglian

League, before dropping down to the Norwich and District League in the 1950s, a time during which they suffered a record 24-0 defeat. In 1963 the club became founder members of the Anglian Combination. A successful spell during the mid-1970s saw the club rise through the divisions. In 1975 the club won its first major trophy, the Norfolk Junior Cup. The following season they won Division Two, and the season after, Division One. In 1981 the club won the Knock-Out Cup, and in 1981-82 they won the Premier Division, retaining the title in 1982-83, 1983-84 and 1984-85, also winning the knock-out cup in 1983 and 1985. They did another league and cup double in 1986-87 1988 In 1988 the club joined the newlyformed Division One of the Eastern Counties League. They won the division in their first season, beating Halstead Town to the title on goal difference. After finishing twelfth in their first season in the Premier Division, the club have never finished lower than eighth. They won the title with a record 99 points in 1991-92, before beating their own record with 100 points and another title the following season, the clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s centenary, in which they also won the League Cup and the Norfolk Senior Cup. In 1993-94 they won a third consecutive title. After a gap of two seasons, the club won the Premier Division again with 109 points in 1996-97, also winning the Senior Cup again. They retained the title and the Seniro Cup in 1997-98,

Pav Guziejko First Team Manager Guziejko has previously worked as a coach in his native Poland, before spending seven years in the USA as assistant coaching director of Spectrum Soccer Schools. The FA Cup First Round Qualifying The FA Cup with Budweiser is now well under way as we reach the third stage of this season’s competition – the First Round Qualifying. In this, the 133rd season, we’ve already had over 300 games since the Extra Preliminary Round kicked off in August, and once again The Cup has not disappointed in throwing up a story or two.

It is likely to have been a quiet night back in the Duffy household that evening, though, as it was the visitors who won 1-0. The Cockfosters’ centre-half that day was Fergus Moore. He is 41 years old and has played in more than 1,000 senior matches. And we go from experienced heads to new faces. As Rugby Town prepared to take Norton United in the Preliminary Round, the referee was injured in the warm up and Shaun Garner, senior assistant referee, was moved into the middle.

A volunteer was sought and youngster Andy Iland accepted the challenge to be assistant referee. At 16 years and 297 days, Andy could well be the youngest official ever to take part in the oldest cup competition in the world. It was the same old misery for Goole, who went down 0-2 at home to Bishop Auckland, as their winless FA Cup run continues into its sixth year. Maybe it will be seventh time’s a charm next year. Bristol Manor Farm of the Western League are on the goal trail and have been scoring for fun this campaign. They have netted 16 times in their two Cup victories so far – 9-3 v Oldland Abbotonians and 7-1 v Lymington Town. George Brimson notching a hat-trick in both matches. Meanwhile, the Taunton Town v Bridgwater Town match, a 1-1 draw, had five red cards – two for Taunton and three for Bridgwater. (Perhaps a ‘lowlight’?)

Former Ipswich Town and Leeds United midfielder Ian Westlake, an ex-England Under-21 international, scored for Needham Market in their 3-2 win over Haverhill Rovers. But hotshot Dom Brennan of Quorn has perhaps showed the most impressive form in front of goal so far in The Cup, scoring four goals in 19 minutes during a 5-1 victory over Holbrook Sports. No doubt more dramas and Cup classics are still in store as we reach the First Round Qualifying this weekend with TheFA.com will once again be out on the ‘Road to Wembley’, so make sure you see where the latest stop is on Monday. TheFA.com was there at Parkgate v Shirebrook Town when two newlyweds received a guard of honour onto the pitch in the first ‘Road to Wembley’ feature of the year. Guernsey FC made their debut in the competition and in doing so became the first Channel Island team to play in The Cup. They won their first match 3-1 at Crawley Down Gatwick and now travel to Hastings United, who played at Middlesbrough in the Third Round Proper last season. Hanwell Town’s Extra Preliminary Round replay with Cockfosters proved to be a family affair with no less than five Duffy’s involved.

THE BEAUTIFUL GAME

The Beautiful Game – Dressed For Service? Ade Roberts Obviously, in the olden days, clubs have been forced to adopt new colours because of financial restrictions. Wigan Athletic used to play in red and white until the 1945/46 season, when they finished bottom of the Cheshire League. With wartime having only just ceased, the local sport shop that supplied their kit could only supply blue and white, hence the kit of today.

You wouldn’t turn up for work without the necessary uniform or safety gear would you? If you did, you’d probably be sent home to rectify the issue. Having said that, I do have a re-occurring dream that I get to work and have no socks on, or that I’m wearing pink sandals. That’s totally outrageous really as I don’t even own a pair of pink sandals! Anyhow, what’s the deal with Millwall turning up at Sheffield Wednesday recently with no kit to play in? You could understand it from a Sunday morning pub side but not a professional club surely? How embarrassing for them and especially for the kit man who eventually turned up with the players’ gear so they could change at the interval into their own strip. Having played the first half wearing an old (borrowed) Sheffield Wednesday strip, Millwall then took to the turf at the restart in their own colours. It must have been very confusing for both sets of supporters watching 45 minutes of Sheff Wednesday v Sheff Wednesday? We’re very proud of our colours and for us fans; we show this by wearing the replica shirts as worn by our players. This however, is only a recent possibility. We’ve only been able to do so since the 1980’s as replica shirts didn’t get produced until then. Prior to the 80’s a rosette or scarf was the nearest we’d get to showing our colours at games. That must be really difficult to comprehend for the younger generation reading this, those that have never watched a black and white portable TV (with a coat hanger for an aerial) or can imagine life before mobile phones existed!

Our clubs’ shirt gives us, and helps shape our identity. In the words of Liverpool’s Brendan Rogers ‘a football strip fuses a team together, it is a club’s uniform for players and fans alike’. I wonder if he feels the same about this seasons Liverpool away kit and 3rd kit. The reintroduction of ‘diamonds’ by US kit manufacturer Warrior would probably be enough of a turn-off to make any Liverpool fan switch to the blue of Everton – yes, the away and 3rd kits really are that bad! Some clubs go that extra mile with their club colours. In 2008 Plymouth Argyle claim to be the first club to produce an ice cream in their club colours. They were handing out free tubs to fans in a game against Hull City calling it ‘Pilgrims Passion’. Sadly, the passion didn’t spread to the pitch on the day – they lost 1-0. Some clubs change the design of their shirts almost as often as the wind changes direction, although this is normally the big greedy clubs cashing in on us demanding fans, as [some of us] will buy anything new that the club shop make available!

Then there’s the tale of Juventus and Notts County. Juventus, until 1903 had played in Salmon pink shirts and a black tie. Continuous washing and the Italian heat caused the shirts to fade so Juve asked one of their team (an Englishman called John Savage) if he had any contacts back home. John had a mate in Nottingham who was a Notts County fan, he sent over some black and white stripey shirts [probably worked at Footlocker?] and as sure as night follows day, Juve have sported the same Black and White stripes ever since, although they did re-introduce the pink shirt for the 2012/13 Centenary season. Not with the black tie though - which was a real shame? Don’t feel sorry for the Millwall kit man [although he’s probably been relieved of his duties by now]. The one you should feel sorry for is Helen Perschky. Helen was 25 at the time (1998/99 season) and was appointed as kit manager for the then Conference side, Stevenage Borough. However, she received a call the following day informing her that club boss Richard Hill had vetoed the appointment because she was deemed ‘too attractive and would distract the players’. Perhaps she should now apply to Millwall FC? Enjoy today’s game and make some noise for the boys!!

Not The Best Of Starts Lee Kearns

Good afternoon and welcome. Not the best start to the season granted but we are all pulling in the same direction and working hard to find the right type of players to bring in and strengthen the squad. It’s easy to point a finger and look accusingly but we are all in it together. As always, and not wishing to repeat myself, we are all working hard behind the scenes to turn the football side of things around into a positive. I’d like to thank Andy Davies for his time at the club and wish him well in whatever avenue he wishes to pursue as far as football is concerned. A larger than life character who’s private persona was very different from his public one. He will always be welcome back to Rowley Park to cheer the team on. Partnership update To give you all an update on Norwich City FC, and the possibility of quality loans players, Iain has spoken to Gregg Broughton (head of recruitment) on a number of occasions and we are now getting to the stage where hopefully they are able to work with us. It’s not that the question hasn’t been asked it’s just that it’s not always easy to get the question answered. However the Norwich City FC Academy Hub will commence on Wednesday 11th Sept and this will make communication far easier. Apprenticeship programme I’d like to talk about our Football Apprenticeship programme. It seems like ages ago that I first had the conversation with a number of people who all recommended that we invest time and energy in trying to put together a scholarship programme. Every college we spoke to offered us something but you always got the feeling that it was never going to be straight forward

As always, and not wishing to repeat myself, we are all working hard behind the scenes to turn the football side of things around into a positive. and that it had to be on their terms and to their remit. That doesn’t work unfortunately because you will always be at the mercy of decision makers that do not give a hoot about whether you succeed or not. So we finally looked into a paid apprenticeship programme whereby the lads are treated like adults are paid a basic wage and are looked after by the club for the club. It’s a great opportunity for all concerned, not just the young footballers but also for the club. We (the club) have come a long way in a very short space of

time with regards to what we now have in place. The apprenticeship programme is the first step in what will be a centre of football development. This Monday (16th September) will be the first day of the next stage of 17 young footballers’ lives. A two year academic and football development that we hope will expand into an apprenticeship programme that will cater for up to 80 lads. Lee
