Greenie’s Greetings With Director Mike Green
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to the Premier Plus Stadium, home of the Saints and the Goldstraw Goldsmiths Academy, for today’s Pitching In Southern League Division One Central match. Tonight we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and travelling supporters of Waltham Abbey Football Club and we hope your stay with us today is a pleasant one before embarking on a safe home later this evening. Due to print deadlines, these notes have been penned prior to our scheduled visits to Hertford Town (Tuesday 16th Nov) and FC Romania (Saturday 20th Nov) so hopefully this evening we will all be talking about how the lads have got back on track and earned positive results in our last two outings. I will quickly talk about our recent trip to Thame United where we were cheered on by a fantastic following on the day, with a supporters' coach making the trip as well as many driving down to Oxfordshire. The result wasn't one we wanted or maybe even deserved, after dominating possession however it was to be a day where our normally incisive attacking department just could not break down a very resolute home defence. A real shame that we couldn't top a very good day out with a win but there we go, that's football. In what has been a very frustrating, stop - start first half of the season, we once again have no scheduled fixture this coming Saturday (27th November) but we do return to action the following week after the draw for the Third Round of the Southern League Knockout Challenge League Cup was recently made and we will be making the short trip to Garden Walk, home of Premier Division Central side Royston Town for the tie which is scheduled to be played on Tuesday November 30th, kicking off at 7.45pm. Our next game after the Cup tie will be a League fixture versus AFC Dunstable here at the Premier Plus Stadium on Saturday, yes you read that right, a Saturday home fixture on Saturday 4th December. Ok then back to this evening's offering which I'm sure will be a tough encounter for the boys against a side who have had some decent results in recent weeks. Get behind our young team from the first whistle. Although we can't guarantee a positive result, We can be sure the boys will all give one hundred percent effort and for that alone, we can ask no more. Come on You Saints
Greenie
From the Dugout With First Team Manager Peter Gill
Firstly, I’d like to wish a warm welcome to everyone from Waltham Abbey. I hope you enjoy your visit to the Premier Plus Stadium & St. Neots Town. I wish you well for the rest of the season. We expect Waltham Abbey to be a side fighting to get into the top 5 come the end of the season so we know that we will need to be at our very best tonight to take anything from the game. At the time of writing, we find ourselves in our first difficult patch of the season, having lost back-toback league games for the first time this campaign. As a result, have slid down to midtable territory. However, with plenty of points to play for this season we hope to bounce back as quickly as possible and get that feel good factor back. It’s still a mixture of emotions reflecting on the Ware game. Naturally, we are bitterly disappointed to not get something out of the game after coming back from 3 goals down. Nevertheless, we can be proud of the boy’s character and fight to come back after being in a really difficult moment at 3-0 down with just 25 played. We then progressed in the League Cup with what was in truth an unconvincing performance. Still, for the second time this season we came through a penalty shoot out to progress. Then the long trip to Thame……A frustrating day all round where we couldn’t find our best form and ultimately succumbed to a direct corner and a strike on the break. The fact we had such brilliant travelling support on the day made the defeat even harder to take. However, I cannot fault the lads for their effort and application. It was simply a day where we couldn’t break down a resolute defence. Thank you to all the supporters who travelled and importantly, stuck with us throughout the disappointing afternoon. After a sub-standard week you often just want to get straight back out there so the 10-day gap between the Thame and Hertford game was certainly not welcome. Though, it does gives us a chance to get some of the injured lads back to fitness and a chance to look at what players are out there that might help us return to form. At the time of writing, we hope to have Callum and Charley back with us for the next set of fixtures. Due to the nature of the injuries, we will be easing the lads back in. Joe Rider unfortunately is struggling with a hamstring issue, so we will have to see how that settles in the next few weeks. Let’s hope for a return to winning ways and getting some important points on the board! As always, thank you for your amazing support! Enjoy the game.
Up the Saints!
Pete

Mehmet Mimoglu Commercial Chat...
Welcome to the Premier Plus Stadium for this evening’s home fixture as The Saints take on Waltham Abbey. The last few months of commercial activity have been busy with Youth team kit sponsorship. With the recent addition of Newab Lounge, we are proud that all our youth teams are now sponsored. There has been massive work done by our Football Director Iain Parr and youth team coaches to achieve this. As well as on the pitch hard work, this shows the great teamwork our club is achieving. Our Football Director and Coaches have shown great contributions to our off the pitch success. We have also had three new additions to our player sponsors. I want to thank Conquest Blinds Ltd, FeedbackFans.com and MGM Transport. This also means that all our current players are now sponsored apart from one. Over the last few weeks, we had new banners go up in the ground for Blueline Security Services and Madison Build. Looking at the above notes, it is great to see that we are well into the season and we have had five new sponsor and banner agreements. The support from our Business Partners has been amazing. Our aim as a Club, which brings us very close to our Business Partners is, we engage and support the Community and local businesses constantly. Local Businesses can engage with us by advertising in the stadium and sponsoring our activities. As a Club we are very good at getting business messages out via our website, social media, and monthly newsletters. Our Sponsors and Business Partners alsohave the opportunity to work with us on fund raising events, charitable initiatives and Community projects. The Club has found a perfect balance if offering valuable returns to Business Partners and Local Community. Our next valuable activity in this area is Free Christmas Dinner Hamper funded by St Neots Community Foundation. All our Advertisers, Business partners and Sponsor’s part of first banner payment is transferred to this fund. On 22nd December we are targeting in helping 100 families via this fund. Without the support of our business partners, advertisers and sponsors we would not be able to offer this Community support. We look forward to seeing you all on at our Friday 26th November event at the Club; “Ste Greenall - Sources Close to the Abbey” which will be held at the Gregory Suite; doors open at 7.30 pm. As always, I have no doubt that you will get behind the lads today and show your continued superb support. Players and all of us at the Club appreciate your support on and off the pitch.

Boardroom Gossip With Chairman Barry Cavilla
Good evening everyone and a warm welcome to the players and officials of Waltham Abbey for tonight first league meeting between our clubs in the Southern league. Waltham Abbey have been very competitive so far this season and will give a stern test to the Saints this evening. Pete and the team will have to be at their best to maintain their impressive start so far this season. Well at last, a home fixture for The Saints. We have been very unlucky with the fixtures to date, due to opponents continued involvement in cup competitions and rearranging games to suit both teams which has proved a very challenging time for the club to generate revenues through the turnstiles, so we are hopeful of a change in fortunes as we move forward. It’s also been a challenge for Pete and the team to keep any momentum going due to lack of game time so we are hopeful of chance to get back to some consistency for all to enjoy and also competing for those very hard earned points to keep us in touch with the ront runners . Behind the scenes many of the board and our excellent work party team (No Job too Big) have been hard at work making improvements and general maintenance to our superb facilities. This includes new upgrades to internal LED lighting and heating systems for your comfort as we close in on the winter Months. I would also like to make a Special Mention to Trevor Dorton, who, without his incredible wealth of experience and abilities to repair and maintain our Pitch machinery at short notice keeping Baz up and running to provide one of the very best surfaces in the Pitching-In Southern leagues, he has also designed tools to help keep our facility’s in tip top condition so it’s a huge Thank you Trevor. Your Club Needs Your support If you have any quality Tools that you have duplicated at home or work that you could donate to help us all maintain our wonderful and demanding facilities, they would be most welcome. Please contact myself or any member of the club to advise what you can donate. Finally, just a reminder of the Christmas Jumper Day on Saturday 18th December, at home to Didcot Town. Come along and enjoy all the excellent competitions, music and festive fun and not forgetting a very important game out on the pitch too. Enjoy your evening.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP – ROUND TWO Biggleswade FC 1 St Neots Town (St Neots won 4-2 on penalties)
1
St Neots fourth trip to The Eyrie this season (two v Bedford and two v Biggleswade) produced a very pleasing outcome as they progressed to Round Three of the Southern League KO Cup for only the second time – the last being seven seasons ago when they went on to lift the Trophy. It was also their second victory this season over Biggleswade, and their second KO Cup shoot out in four attempts. Like the league match it was a closely fought encounter with the host side coming back from behind to earn the sudden death finale. Goalkeeper George Whitehall again contributed at the death with an important save in the shoot-out, and Marc Abbott making his Southern League debut conjured up the all- important St Neots goal. He was one of five changes to the side that had played the previous Saturday with Manager Pete Gill utilising the depth of his squad for this Cup match. Into the starting line-up also came goalkeeper George Whitehall for Louis Chadwick, and there were returns to action for Wynford Marfo, Elliott Sartorious and Kwai Marsh-Brown with Harvey Steel, Brendon Shabani Joe Rider and Lee Watkins all rested. There was a fairly even start to the match and after Jake Battersby had sent the visitors’ first effort over the bar, Ben Head had to head off the line to deny Alex Marsh following a corner. Marc Abbott announced his arrival by picking up an early booking and then Tom Coles for the hosts, saw his effort rebound from the crossbar.St Neots finished the first half with a flourish as Mamadou Jobe and Myles Cowling combined to set up Neo Richard-Noel to go clear, but home keeper Tyler Josephs saved bravely at his feet, and then an attack down the left saw Battersby send in a testing shot that was not cleared and Marc Abbott arrived on the scene to open the scoring with a neat finish. Although twenty minutes later including the half time break, Biggleswade had levelled within ninety seconds of the restart as a goalmouth scramble saw St Neots’ acting skipper Charlie Johnson concede a penalty with a mistimed challenge and Alex Marsh climbed to his feet to stroke home the spot kick to level the scores. The host side were then forced back on the defensive as St Neots sought to regain the initiative, but they seemed to lack the important finishing touch and some dominant midfield play rendered very little reward. Both sides decided after 65 minutes to change tack – each sending on a substitute to vary their approach. However the main result of this change was a return to end to end attacking moves with both sides seemingly committed to finding a match winning goal.
JW Match Report BIGGLESWADE FC (A) 3-11-2021
Richard-Noel though he should have been awarded a penalty when a lunging Nathan George tackle left him on the deck, but the Referee was not persuaded whilst at the other end substitute Daniel Bond was played clear, but George Whitehall produced the save of the match to keep the scores level. Wynford Marfo joined the attack to head wide from a Lee Watkins cross, and in St Neots final attack, Josephs had to save at Richard-Noel’s feet. And so to penalties. Marsh shot over for the home side and Ryan Inskip brought that important save from Whitehall, so perfect finishes from Joe Rider, Neo Richard-Noel, Myles Cowling and Ben Heal that meant after eight penalties, St Neots were deservedly into Round Three of the competition.

As the match finished Saturday firework displays began to light up the darkening sky in stark contrast to St Neots performance which had been akin to a damp squib. The visitors dominated play – especially in the first 45 minutes – yet never produced a single threatening shot at the home goal until the 89th minute when Neo Richard-Noel failed to seriously test the home goalkeeper. With midfield pair Brendan Shabani and skipper Lee Watkins back in midfield, replacing Marc Abbott and Jake Battersby, and leading scorer Joe Rider in for Elliott Sartorius, St Neots were almost back to full strength, but they just failed to deliver against a host side that had only stubborn defence in their armoury in the first hour of the match. St Neots boasted lots of early possession. Despite playing some attractive approach football the important end product was sadly missing from a side that boasted an average of almost two and a half goals per league match prior to this visit to Oxfordshire. Winning the toss St Neots elected to play with wind advantage but seemingly had no idea how to use it to their credit. Too many forward balls went harmlessly through to the home keeper, but to their credit St Neots persisted with their patient approach with rare forwardsorties by the home side only coming when careless passing surrendered the ball. When St Neots did threaten the home side were not afraid to concede free kicks to halt their visitors progress and early in the match Jack Tompkins became the first of four home players to be booked. Kwai Marsh Brown was St Neots’ most dangerous player and he shot just wide and had a second effort deflected for a corner as the first half wore on.St Neots were fortunate when Mamadou Jobe carelessly gave the ball away four minutes before the break, but Charlie Johnson came to his rescue with a well times tackle to dispossess Jack Tutton.Just on the stroke of half time Joe Rider limped off with a hamstring problem - Elliott Sartorius substituting. In the first notable action of the second half Thame took the lead against the run of play when direct from a corner Dave Pearce curled the ball beyond the reach of George Whitehall and into the far corner of the net to put his side ahead. Neo Richard-Noel then headed over the bar and at the other end, Whitehall made some amends for his earlier error when he twisted to turn a Ryan Blake shot over for a corner. However Thame had grown in confidence and twelve minutes from time Dave Pearce was perfectly placed to turn a Blake cross beyond the reach of the visiting goalkeeper for the home sides’ second goal. With their confidence low St Neots never looked like getting back into the match in the time remaining and helped b y some blatant time wasting that earned their goalkeeper a booking, Thame held out with few problems to take all three points and move up to thirteenth in the table.

HUNTINGDON TOWN U18
0 (Monday 15th November)
St Neots Towm completed a third league ‘double’ of the season – this time beating visitors Huntingdon Town, whom they had defeated in their first meeting three weeks ago. This time they improved on their first victory by an extra goal having won 5-0 at Huntingdon. There were two goals apiece for Marley Ugarte-Edwards (sixteen for the season), Julinho Gomes (eighteen so far), and Max Smalley (his fourth and fifth goals). Huntingdon came set up to defend as their first priority, and for more than half an hour they held St Neots at bay.The home side were allowed to dominate possession, but they had little idea how to break through the resolute and defiant defence of the visiting side. In that first phase of the match visiting keeper Ciaran O’Reilly had only one serious save to make from an angled shot by St Neots skipper Ryan Thomas, whilst Marley Ugarte-Edwards shot wide when he might have done netter. The visitors eventually created an opening of their own after half an hour when Lewis Arber tested home keeper Brooklyn Peacock. Then with 34 minutes played a defensive error let in Marley Ugarte-Edwards and he opened the scoring. With just that single goal advantage St Neots looked more purposeful after half time and eight minutes after the restart Kacper Kobus set up Max Smalley for his first goal of the match and sixty seconds later he struck again picking up a poor clearance to make it 3-0 from the edge of the penalty area. After 61 minutes the lively Charlie Clark set up Marley Ugarte-Edwards for his second goal as the visitors began to crumble.Fifteen minutes from time leading scorer Julinho Gomes put his name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by visiting keeper O’Reilly. The scoring was completed six minutes from time when substitute Newman Nshangalume provided the perfect through pass to set up Julinho Gomes for his second goal of the game. St Neots Town: Peacock, Hargreaves, Thomas, Clark, Payton, Camfield, Smalley, Timberlake, Gomes, Ugarte-Edwards, Kobus Subs used: Kimpton, Jackson, Nshangalume, and Addai. JW LOOKING AHEAD WALTHAM ABBEY (H) 23-11-2021
OPPONENTS SPOTLIGHT (23rd November 2021) WALTHAM ABBEY FC Year founded: 1944 Chairman: John Martin Club Website: www.wafc.co.uk WELCOME TO ALL ESPECIALLY TO OUR VISITORS WALTHAM ABBEY WHO VISIT US FOR THE FIRST TIME HERE AT THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM Waltham Abbey are one of five clubs who were transferred over to the Southern League from the Isthmian League South Central Division in an FA shake-up at the start of the current season, and they are the fourth of those that we have hosted so far. The one exception is Harlow Town who are scheduled to visit on February 5th next year. This will be the first ever league meeting of our two clubs although 21 years ago on 16th September 2000 we travelled to Waltham Abbey in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup having beating Milton Keynes City 5-0 in the Preliminary Qualifying Round. We were beaten 2-4 with Jason Meeds scoring both our goals. It was the second of three seasons in charge for Manager Chris Howell. The premature ending of the 2020/21 season just over a year ago will have been a huge disappointment to today’s visitors. At that time they were the leaders of the Isthmian League South Central Division with sixteen points from eight completed fixtures which was a vast improvement on the curtailment of the 2019/20 season when they were seventh some 14 points behind the then leaders Ware Town. In their last full season in the Isthmian League, Waltham Abbey finished ninth of twenty teams with 56 points from 38 matches. In the FA Cup this season Waltham Abbey lost 2-1 away in the Preliminary Round at Canvey Island whom Bedford Town defeated in a replay in the following round, and in the Buildbase FA Trophy second Round Qualifying Waltham Abbey recorded a fine penalty shoot-out victory away at East Grinstead, before losing 5-0 away at Bognor Regis in the next round. When these notes were penned Waltham Abbey were 12th in the league table seven points behind our lads but with two matches in hand.

Both clubs gained numerous honours in the Northern Suburban League. The club was founded in 1944 with a mix of players from Waltham Abbey Youth Club and former juniors from Tottenham Hotspur under the leadership of the trainer and manager Wally Hickman. The secretary was Mo (Maurice) Ward. The President was Capt. Larkin. In their early years they played to a high standard and reached the final of the Herts Junior Cup in three years out of four but lost on each occasion – including a loss to Redbourn Rovers of 4–5 after they had been leading 4–1. Some of the leading players in the early years included left winger Dave Cook who was killed in a road crash, centre-half Robbo Robinson and inside forward Frank Blower. Frank later became a dedicated treasurer of the club with Ray Buck as a similarly dedicated club secretary. Waltham Abbey United emerged in the late sixties and a new clubhouse was built. In 1974 the club amalgamated with the successful Beechfield Sports and joined the Metropolitan League, which later became the London Spartan League. In 1976 the club won the Essex Junior Cup and later that summer dropped the Beechfield Sports tag on the advice of The FA. Two years later the club reached the final of the Essex Intermediate Cup and won the league’s Division One title, and, having gained Senior Status, were promoted. In their first season they won the title without losing a game and were again promoted this time to the Premier Division where they remained until season 2000–01. Season 2001–02 was spent in the Essex & Herts Border Combination to allow them to move across the pyramid. They were elected to the Essex Senior League for season 2002–03. In 2004–05, in addition to winning both the League Cup and the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy they finished in their highest position of 3rd. In 1990–91 the club were inaugural finalists in the Roy Bailey Memorial Trophy, a competition for local teams including Cheshunt, Ware, and Hertford Town. It was won for the first time in 1994–95 when they beat Hoddesdon Town. In both 1996–97 and 2005 (in the final held over from the previous season) they beat St Margaretsbury. In 1998–99 they won the London Senior Cup with a fine 3–2 win over Bedfont at Dulwich Hamlet’s ground, and they also secured the Spartan South Midlands Challenge Trophy. Recent seasons have seen a lot of changes on and off the pitch with floodlights being installed in 1990 and the ground levelled. A great amount of work has been done around the clubhouse and a 200-seater stand built. A number of seats were purchased from Manchester City´s old Maine Road and these were installed during the summer of 2005 as the club strived to improve facilities on and off the field and move up the non-league pyramid. On 2 May 2009, the Abbott's capped off a successful 2008–09 season by beating Concord Rangers 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw to win the Isthmian League Division 1 North Play-off's. They played in the Isthmian League Premier Division for the first time in their history in 2009–10. However, despite winning the last two games of their season, they finished 21st and were relegated back to Isthmian League Division 1 North for the 2010–11 season on goal difference. In 2011 John Martin was elected Chairman and in subsequent years has transformed the ground and facilities. A new pitch with professional irrigation system has been laid 3 times with the surface now the envy of many a grass pitch in the league. A new car park has been laid, replacing the old shingle, a long overdue addition. In 2019 it is expecting new changing rooms will be completed with a new clubhouse pitch side the next project.
