Theterm“KingoftheBeasts”ismisleadingbecause aLionwillrunfrommanycreatures,includingtheelephant andtherhinoceros.

Lionsarethemostsocialofallthecats,livingin groupscalled“Prides.”Therecanbeupto40membersin aPridewithoverhalfofthembeingcubsandyoungadults. FemaleswilloftenstaywiththePridetheirentirelife,while youngmalesaredrivenout.

ThelargestLiononrecordwasalmost11feetlong andweighednearly700pounds.

ALion’saveragelifespanis13yearsbutaLion named“Nero”oncelivedtotheripeoldageof29inaWest Germanzoo.
