INTERVIEW W WITH H THE E CHIEF EXECUTIVE E OFFICER R OF F KANDE E COLLECTION A true brand development involves sophisticated logistics, team work, endless nights and tremendous amount focus. Cleopatra Magazine, was able to single out a young designer on the rise at a fashion award night in London, whose whose trajectory is the one to note by industry mavens as well as today’s up and comers. Below is my interview with her. C.M. Can you introduce yourself and give a brief overview of Kande Collection? K.A. My name is Aminat Akande, I am a 23-year-old British born Nigerian, and founder/CEO of KANDE COLLECTION. KANDE COLLECTION was
found early in 2020; it is a unisex brand that offers premium contemporary African inspired pieces. The brand has the aim of ‘redefining contemporary fashion with culture at heart’ which is centred around the ambition to revive the beauty of African Fashion in the mainstream and high-end fashion industry. KANDE COLLECTION Is a brand built on heritage and
identity through African culture, by using traditional prints, fabrics and concepts with modern/western artistry. We currently operate as a retail ecommerce business, where our customers can browse our designs on our web page, and we ship to our customers globally. C.M. What are the favourite materials/embellishments you love working with?
K.A. I love working with a range of materials when designing. I love to see how different textures, fabrics and patterns can help to bring a garment to life, and evoke different emotions when people take a glance. When I first launched my brand, I began designing with traditional Ankara wax fabrics; by reworking modern designs with Ankara prints. This was something that was very fresh and really marked the blueprint for what KANDE COLLECTION was about. Recently, I have loved working with silk fabrics, which may have been apparent from the release of the newest collection. I love the elegance and versatility of the fabric, especially with how the fabric can be manipulated in different ways for a flattering finish. I have also collaborated with a Nigerian Print Designer (Grapes Pattern Bank), to create some unique prints with an African touch. This was a really exciting process for designing my garments as it allows for that extra step of exclusivity and really embodies the feel for African heritage within the
clothes. I am definitely looking forward to experimenting with a variety of different textures and fabrics going forward when planning the future collections. C.M. Your collection at the African Fashion Awards in London was highly applauded, it must be one of your proudest night? K.A. Absolutely! I was so grateful for the opportunity to showcase my designs at the inaugural African Fashion Awards Show 2021 in London. It definitely served as a great reminder to keep on pushing my work out there within the Industry. I was also very blessed to work with such an amazing team of Models, Photographers, Make Up Artist and creative assistants* on the night that helped to bring the vision to life. As a designer it can sometimes be easy to become critical of the designs you produce, but seeing people respond to my designs in such a positive way was very refreshing. It’s nice to know that your hard work and your concepts are being seen and appreciated.
I also found the event very pivotal for allowing creatives navigating the African Fashion space in the UK to network – we need the support of one and other, and so I hope events of such continue in the future.

Make Up Artist: VanaMakeup (Vivien Ananaba) Creative Assistants: Oluwatomilayo Akinbolagbe & Senada Merkulaj Hosts: African Fashion Awards. C.M. Where do you look to spot ‘trends’ and keep abreast with current fashion designs and styles? K.A. I keep up to date with trends mostly by remaining engaged with social media platforms, and commercial news outlets focused on Fashion promotion. With the nature of my business, it is also important for me to be commercially conscious of what is trendy in both western parts of the world and also in the African Fashion Industry. I also aim to create timeless pieces; so, pieces that may not necessarily follow seasonal trends, but may also hold value and desire many seasons down the line. I think that’s the most challenging part about trying to build an African luxury brand – It is important to uphold value and longevity in the garments. C.M. When you start to design a new collection, what is the process? Do you start with an
overview of what you want the collection to be or a mood board with the elements you want to include? K.A. Honestly speaking, I wouldn’t say that I follow a rigid process or procedure when it comes to designing! And I do enjoy having an open approach. Generally my designs are birthed through things I am inspired by, or I use my designing process as an outlet for my creative mind. I draw a lot of my inspiration from colours, feelings, music and prints. Sometimes I do dedicate time to put pencil to paper to sketch and trial designs, silhouettes and shapes, create mood boards etc. Other times, I could receive a spurt of creativity and a picture of a design could pop into my mind! At that point I frantically run and find my notebook to make sure I have sketched or taken note of the design so I don’t forget it… especially because those particular designs sometimes turn out to be the most popular! C.M. What in your opinion, sets Kande Collection brand apart? K.A. I think firstly, the fact that we are
a brand that produces garments in inspired by African culture sets it apart. Secondly, we want to deliver our products to our consumers in a unique way – one that is engaging and inspiring to empower people to identify with their roots in a conventional way. Additionally, we take pride in the fact that we work with African seamstresses to help bring our visions to life. Hopefully these are aspects that we can continue to convey to our community. 7. C.M. What are the biggest challenges facing African fashion in United Kingdom? K.A. I love this question, especially because it is a question that isn’t asked enough. I think the biggest challenge is the perception of African Fashion. I feel that African Fashion can be easily boxed into fashion that is only made ‘to celebrate the occasion’. However African Fashion represents Identity, it is an expression of the exuberant lifestyles and cultures that many British immigrants can resonate with. Therefore, it should be embraced and celebrated everyday rather than left behind.
KANDE COLLECTION was built with this challenge in mind, and hopefully with the ability to change this narrative or perception. The beginning of solving these challenges starts by taking a call to action even if it may seem like you are the only one doing it – because inevitably someone has to? I think firstly, the fact that we are a brand that produces garments in inspired by African culture sets it apart. C.M. C.M. What should we expect next from Kande Collection? K.A. We have lots in store for KANDE COLLECTION; from the complexity of designs, to social initiatives within the African community and also brand partnerships that we hope we can achieve over the next 5 years. Our main goals for the short term look like continuing to build our community and to be recognised nationwide for our unique offering of premium African inspired garments. We also hope that we can continue to be involved in some major industry events that could allow us to showcase the brand globally.
INSIDE CRISTIANO RONALD’S £21 MILLION PRIVATE JET.
How good it is to be Cristiano Ronaldo. The 36-year-old Portuguese star is the first football player to have made Forbes' list of billionaires in 2020. His current four-year contract with Italian Champion's League side Juventus earned him
$36m (about £25m) last year alone. This money has allowed him to buy houses around the world, luxury cars and, of course, private planes. And even though he is in the process of selling his New York flat in Trump Tower
for $10 million less than it cost him, he still has a lot of money left over.
Robb Report, and a Gulfstream G200, which he bought for $25 million (about £21 million).
Anybody who follows Cristiano Ronaldo and his wife Georgina Rodriguez on Instagram knows they live quite the lavish lifestyle. Let's take a look at one of their most prized possessions, their private jet.
So it makes sense the Manchester United ace, 36, bought a Gulfstream G200 twin-engine jet in 2015.
Ronaldo owns two private planes: a Gulfstream G650, which costs about $65.5 million (about £47 million) and can fly about 13,000 km without refuelling, according to The
He and partner Georgina Rodriguez have been seen making the most of the luxury transport. Its range is up to 3,910 miles with four passengers in tow, so it's ideal for quick flights from his new base in England to hubs
around Europe. But the G200 offers a generous seating configuration, and can fit as many as eight to 10 passengers for one flight. Ronaldo is also believed to own a Gulfstream G650 which has a range of 8,000 miles and cost well over double what he paid for the G200. The Sporting Lisbon academy graduate is never far from the top of the Forbes sporting rich list and will reportedly take home a
whopping £480,000 per week at United. Ronaldo has posted many pictures from the jet in recent years alongside son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. and partner Georgina Rodriguez. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is well-equipped with a wardrobe, Wi-Fi, a telephone, fax machine, electric oven, microwave, refrigerator and an entertainment system, while he had the interior refurbished in 2019.
Ronaldo is believed to have flown from Faro in Portugal to Manchester Airport last week to begin his five-day period of isolation.
Ronaldo's other ventures outside of football include deals with Tag Heuer and Clear Haircare, as well as many others.
Ronaldo's wages are supplemented by his many endorsements, chief among which is his deal with Nike. He signed a 10-year contract with the American outfitter in 2016 worth £14.68million per annum.
Ronaldo's salary is the mostlucrative in Premier League history and the biggest earner on the Red Devils' books by some distance ahead of David de Gea on £375,000 per week.

R. KELLY’S MUSIC SALE SOARED 500% AFTER GUILTY VERDICTS.
R. Kelly According to reports, 54-year-old singer’s on-demand audio streams are up 22 percent, while his video streams have risen 23 percent in comparison to the week before the verdict was announced.
The Chicago native, who was found guilty in a Brooklyn courtroom on September 24th, faces between 10 years and life in prison for his crimes. His next court date is set for May
R. Kelly’s Former Girlfriend Azriel Clary. 4, 2022. The news comes just days after YouTube removed multiple R. Kelly channels from their platform. Additionally, R. Kelly is also prohibited from using, owning or creating any other YouTube channels. Despite the charges and guilty verdict are you still listening to
R. Kelly’s music? Share your thoughts with us on social media. In the week following his conviction, Kelly's streams increased from 11.2 million to 13.4 million, while his album sales climbed 517 percent. Additionally, his on-demand audio streams rose 22 percent and his video streams increased by 23 percent compared to the
seven days prior to his trial's conclusion. The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer's streams and sales have not suffered in the four years since accusers came forward with claims that Kelly was running a "sex cult" with young women, notes Rolling Stone. YouTube is the only platform that has pulled the embattled musical artists' work in the aftermath of his more than monthlong trial. The platform announced last week that R. Kelly's two channels, RKellyTV and RKellyVevo, were deleted in accordance with their guidelines, which state that the company can "terminate a creator's channels if they're accused of a very
egregious crime" or "should the creator be convicted or plead guilty." Rolling Stone notes that the phenomenon of musical artists' music surging in popularity as they're embroiled in controversy was also witnessed earlier this year with Morgan Wallen. The country singer's album sales rose 1,220 percent after he was condemned for and subsequently apologized for using a racial slur. BACKGROUND R. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was convicted of eight counts of trafficking women across state lines for sex and one count of racketeering for criminal conduct. The day after he was found guilty, YouTube
took down two of the “Remix to Ignition” artist’s official channels. Over the past four years, since the allegations against Kelly came to light, streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify have “muted” the artist — meaning his music isn’t included in promoted playlists. Regardless of his recent conviction, R. Kelly's musical impact remains unshaken. We've been keeping you updated on the ongoing cases against R. Kelly, including his recent New York
trial where the disgraced singer faced accusations related to sex crimes and sex trafficking. Kelly and his legal team have continuously denied those allegations, insisting that the singer is the latest celebrity victim who has been targeted by both accusers and the authorities. Music fans have debated whether or not it is appropriate for people to listen to Kelly's catalog, and an overwhelming number of fans remain dedicated to the singer. According to reports, since Kelly was found guilty.
