Yoga as an antidote to New Year’s Resolutions
any of us are immersed into the change of season by now, settling into winter, looking ahead to festive celebrations, and casting our minds towards a fresh new year. We love the chance to reset that a new year offers. Stepping into this renewal with a sense of resolve can be a strong place from which to make changes, take stock and carry forward what’s working. However, we can’t help but take the idea of ‘new year, new me’ with a pinch of salt, and here’s why. You made it here, and every step of the way you brought your whole self with you. Resolutions can have their purpose, setting us off on the right track, but what happens when the path gets rocky along the way? Or when life gets busy, our loads get heavy, and we lose our sense of direction? If a resolution becomes something to which we must attach a sense of ‘failure’ or ‘success’, does adding another burden really contribute to our wellness? What could you do with your new resolve if you took your whole self with you into the new year? Leave behind the language that speaks to quick fixes and begin something lasting and meaningful? We love yoga because it’s slow and steady. Each time you practice, you accept the immediate benefits from your class, as well as taking a step towards lasting and

meaningful change. Regular yoga practice creates a sustainable relationship to exercise, mindfulness, focus and community. With yoga at LANO we have the chance to move our bodies, breathe a little more deeply and settle busy minds. How can our decisions for the new year reflect what we’ve learned over the last 18 months about the value of time, community, balance and connecting to others? How can we integrate this intention throughout 2022, rather than burning ourselves out by February? We have lots ways to start.

If you’re seeking a gentle way to stretch and breathe, try Classic, Gentle or Restore. At LANO Southsea we have a full schedule of daily classes in a variety of styles. All ages, abilities and experiences are welcome, whether you’re with us to relax or as part of a personal fitness regime. Our facilities include infrared hot-yoga heating systems, changing rooms, showers and a spacious yoga studio for classes. Drop-ins, class packages and memberships are available, as well as our Intro-Pass for first time visitors.
