PRECEDENT STUDY

- VIVA-CITY is a hybrid word derived from addition of two words, “Viva which means liveliness and word city itself.

WHY ?

ISSUE EXISTING SITE [2018]

IDEAS VIVA CITY I REMINISCE [2070]

CENTRAL PARK, MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY

- The site is a government offices and royal area

causing it to be lacking in activities during night and weekend.

- To overcome the problem, we are suggest to attract the investors to invest in this site so that new attraction will be created as the greenery to be maintained.

Central Park has it all: 843 acres. Nearly 40 million annual visitors. Twenty-nine sculptures. More than 25,000 trees. The massive National Historic Landmark is located smack-dab in the middle of Manhattan, New York City Marathon and outdoor SummerStage concerts. You could spend days in the park without seeing everything, and it’s open year around with activities for every season. We could go on-we havent mentioned Belvere Castle or the Metropolitan Museum of Art yet-but you should really just go to see it for yourself.

HOW ? POTENTIAL

TO BE REMINISCE

HYDE PARK, CENTRAL LONDON

Hyde Park is a Grade I-registered major park in Central London. The park was established by Henry VIII in 1536 when he took the land from Westminster Abbey and used it as a hunting ground. It opened to the public in 1637 and quickly became popular. Several duels took place in Hyde Park during this time, often involving members of the nobility. Free speech and demonstrations have been a key feature of Hyde Park since the 19th century. Speaker’s Corner has been established as a point of free speech and debate since 1872. In the late 20th century, the park became known for holding large-scale free rock music concerts, featuring groups such as Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Queen. Commercial concerts have continued into the 21st century, such as Live 8 in 2005.

TO BE VIVAVICIOUS

ZOOTOPIA, DENMARK - The goal of Viva City I Reminisce is to mix and weave the technology, green, royal & historical context to create remenisce effects for the people of johor bahru and international perspectives

Danish architects BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) have just released ambitious designs for a zoo in Givskud, Denmark. It’s a project that provides an intriguing opportunity for, as BIG explains, the creation of a space with “the best possible and freest possible environment for the animals’ lives and relationships with each other and visitors.” The firm has been working for the past two years to make Zootopia what the Danish press is calling “the world’s most advanced zoo.”

THEORIES

Bigamy - Bjarke Ingels

Hedonistic Sustainability - Bjarke Ingels

Relationship to Man - Edmund N.Bacon

- Taking multiple designable elements that may not seemingly fit together, and merging them together to create a new creation or genre. - “You don’t have to remain faithful to a single idea, you can literally marry multiple ideas into promiscuous hybrids,” Bjarke Ingels. - “You can have both”.

- What if you can truly have it all? What if you can do something that is good for the environment, while doing something good for yourself and for the economy? - Transform the whole sustainability movement into something very youthful, dynamic and egalitarian. - The diagram below is one that could be implemented across many scales.

- Urbun built form should be reflective of our human scale and aid in and in establishing a connection between built environment and man. - If this is done artfully, buildings and their relationship to man benefit urban form. SCALE

SIGHT

- Sight is by far the most useful in judging - Human scale can be measured by our esthetic quality and spatial understanding. ability to reach out and touch detail and texture to gives us the ability to judge the size of a space, an idea that provides comfort and intimacy, acknowledging the appropriateness of human proximity to the building. FEEL - Building materials, lighting, ventilation and the use of space can all affect the mood and physical well-being of building occupants.

TOUCH - The best senses that gives you a physical understanding of build quality.

Integrate and hide buildings as much as possible in the landscape. Homes for the animals that are both tailor-made especially for them and at the same time has the qualities from their original surroundings.

To reduce the appearance of the building to make comfortable for the animal yet pleasing to the people who search a green scenery in this site. - The idea is to integrate between highrise and zoo to make new typology of zoo. One of the most critical pieces of Bacon’s work is the identification and reiteration of built forms relationship to man. Bacon argues that our urban built form should be reflective of our human scale and aid in establishing a connection between built environment and man. If this is done artfully, buildings and their relationship to man benefit urban form.

“The beauty is that architecture not only allows you to dream stuff up. It also allows you to alter the facts.” Bjarke Ingels

The world’s rainforests could completely dissapear within 100 years at the current rate of deforestation

“Where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain [yet can find solitude & recreation...] These lands may also contain ecological, geological or features of scientific educational, scenic or historical value.”- Wilderness Act of 1964. A malleable concept representing man’s interpretation of nature, acting as esssential embodiment of the primitive interface between humankind and the natural world. Over time it has come to offer man spiritual, recreational and educational value as a quint essential space to loose oneself and gain a meaningful orientation to one’s environment.

SITE PLAN-UNDERGROUND

THESIS STATEMENT

BioCity is will be the green lungs of Johor Bahru to attract people relax and even promoting tourism of Johor Bahru. With the existing zoo and park at the moment, a basic potential of green lungs of Johor Bahru is already within grasp. The BioCity will give the opportunity for business, build collaboration and be exchanging cultivation among local yet globally. Johor Bahru will levitate as the between a state with the formation of Ibrahim International Business District soon and Biocity will serve de-stress place of people wheres stay at the city. This BioCity will act as the example of the best urban park in the world like Central Park, New York where visited by 40 million people per year. The BioCity will serve many programs such as a zoo, urban park, commercial area, riverwalk, research and development center, an educational hub and many more to attract people to come to this BioCity. The special of this BioCity is the place where people and the animal can interact directly without any border to make the new typology of a zoo. The concept of the zoo is like safari but an animal can’t escape from the BioCity with the seamless treatment. To achieve sustainable development, BioCity will have a large rainwater harvesting to harvest rainwater to use for Biocity needs. Furthermore, this park will have an area to preserve the nature where the natural forest will allow for growth without any touch of the human.

SITE PLAN-SURFACE

DESIGN STRATEGY To achieve the goal of the BioCity is make the site permeability. It’s important to ease people access Biocity. The linkages to the BioCity will make good to improve the pedestrian way. The new typology of the zoo will introduce to the zoo at BioCity wheres animal will freely move along the site with a new typology of divider between BioCity and site next to. People will experience new experience that no others experience like BioCity for example when people jogging, there will be a deer hanging around. The new typology of the zoo will take a care of animal welfare because existing Zoo Johor is a typical zoo in the world where animal being cage an being exhibit. A new typology of the zoo will make the zoo not existing because of no border between people and animal and make it as a hidden zoo. Beside that, to improves zoo setting, a new program will be injected to the existing zoo which is Artificial Intelligence animal where the robot will imitate the behavior of the original animal and being an exhibit. The new hybrid animal also will introduce to the zoo which an animal will be combined with the combination of DNA. This will make a BioCity an advance zoo in the world and attract tourist to visit BioCity. A central core tower at the central and highest point of the site will not only for the nodes in the site but it has the purpose to harvest the rainwater to recycle and used for BioCity. As for sustainability development strategy, BioCity will have a reserved forest to maintain the balancing of the urban city of Johor Bahru. It will reserve the endangered species of flora and fauna to be studied by the researcher and can be rejuvenating again.
