Only 81 days until the pool opens! These are the things that I have to keep in mind as we’re suffering through another stretch of cold and snow. I’m sure all of you are ready for the golf course to be in full swing, the pool to be packed, and drinks flowing as much as I am. Until that time, we’re going to do everything possible to keep you warm and entertained.
There are some great events coming up in March at the Club, including our first golf event! Don’t miss all that your Club has to offer: Dancing with the Stars Pre-Party – get your night started the right way Throwback Thursday’s – your favorite comfort foods from past menus March Madness Specials all month long Chamber Business After Hours Passport Series – don’t miss the flavors of Japan SCC Wildcard – new golf event for 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Celebration There is one staffing note that I would like you to be aware of. I would like to welcome Abigail Bacon to the Salina Country Club family. Abigail is currently enrolled in the MBA program at KWU and will be coming on board as a Food and Beverage Manager. She will be visible on both the Member Dining side of the building as well as handling some of the outside events in conjunction with Chris Nickell. She will be replacing Julie Schott, who recently left Salina Country Club to spend more time with her family and to pursue other opportunities. Please make Abigail feel welcomed when you meet her. Once again, thank you all for being members of Salina Country Club! It’s a very exciting time for our Club and I’m very grateful that you’ve chosen to join us! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

Happy March Salina Country Club, Though I typically push tequila on you when you are dining in the outlets, this month I will be pushing beer and Irish whiskey. Through misty skies of rain and snow, believe it or not summer is approaching. This month we are beginning to plan the details of our summer activities such as youth sports and Snack Bar operations. I am excited to bring some of my coastal roots to the poolside of Salina Country Club. As mentioned last month, we are planning on streamlining our communications at the beginning of each month on Food & Beverage events. With Abby starting this month, we will have a great opportunity to get ahead on some items that will help you better plan your monthly activities to ensure you can enjoy the events at SCC.
It is also an exciting time for culinary as Bradley Smith will be joining us in the role of a Banquet Sous Chef. Bradley will be primarily focused on production and execution of our banquet functions. Bradley is joining us from Pronghorn Country Club, a Troon facility, in Bend, Oregon. Please welcome Bradley as of March 1st. Training also continues to be a focus this month. As we are rolling out new menus in both Johnny’s Up and The Grill, our Ladies & Gentlemen will be put forth through a range of different trainings. From a culinary standpoint they will be memorizing recipes, mastering technique, and creating new routines for new dishes. From the wait staff, they will be focused on ‘becoming the experts of their craft,’ and finding new ways to create continuous, elevated experiences. As always, I am looking forward to another great month with all of you at Salina Country Club.

Hello all, March is here!!! I have high hopes that the weather will brighten with warmth and sunshine. This month we have plenty of activities inside to keep you warm, if the outdoors chooses not to cooperate. On the culinary dashboard for this month we will roll-out our new menu for Johnny’s and The Grill Room. We have revised the offerings in Johnny’s to reflect a casual bar menu with built in daily Specials. For the Grill Room we have re-concepted the space to offer the likes of a steak and seafood eatery that focuses on seasonal offerings when possible. There will also be new beers and and speciality cocktails that you will not find anywhere in town that can compare. Exciting things are coming so stay tuned. I would also like to add that we will be hosting several March Madness specials as you cheer on your favorite team, St Patty’s Day Pre-Pub Crawl specials and a first run of our Saturday Date Night Series. Stay tuned as there is more to come.
Chef Eric

We have an active schedule planned for SCC members this season. There are some new events and some changes to traditional ones. Be sure to check out the SCC website and our SCC Golf Weekly email for all the exciting events coming this season. The tournament calendar is available on the website, as well as all golf related information. We will also have printed versions available in the Pro Shop. The golf season will kick off on March 16th with our Annual Wildcard Tournament (2 cups on each hole, individual tournament, make your own tee times), followed by our first Men’s Open Night golf and dinner on March 27th and then the Ladies Golf Association Social on April 2nd at 6:00 p.m. (call to add your name to the reservation) and much more to follow.
Men’s sign up will begin March 1st and play will begin in April. Rosters and league rules are available in the Pro Shop. If you would like to play in league and are not yet on a roster please call us. We always have teams looking for players.
Beginning April 9th at 5:30pm, and each Tuesday following as well as two Thursday’s each month, we will have our Get Ready to Golf instruction clinics for ladies. These clinics are free and for all skill levels, including beginners. Make plans to come out for game improvement and fun. The Tournament Calendar has dates for each lesson and skill we will be working on.
The unlimited cart program renewal begins April 1st. If you are not currently taking advantage of the unlimited cart program but would like to, please notify the Pro Shop prior to April 1st. If you are currently enrolled in the program, your contract will automatically renew unless you notify the Pro Shop that you would like to be removed.
It is hard to believe that March is here. I feel like this winter will never end. Good news is that the average temperatures and daylight hours are on the rise. So hopefully winter will break and we can get some nicer weather so everyone can get back on the course. The projects are behind schedule, but we still plan on completing them before the heavy mowing season. Once the weather does warm up all the moisture we had will help green everything up quickly. We have all the equipment ready to go as well as the crew. They are eager to get out and start mowing. This month is also the time to get our pre-emergence out to prevent weeds and keep everything clean. Last month we did have a couple days between snows that we sprayed fairways with Round-up to help eliminate any weeds or grass that might have found its way into the zoysia. Since the warm season grass is dormant, the Round-up does not hurt the grass and is very effective to provide a weed free playing surface. I am very happy with how the course looks at this point in time compared to last year. I know it has been a bad winter for golf but it will be great for the golf course. We have built new water cooler stands that will go along with the look of the trash cans and sand bottle storage to tie the look of everything together. We are setting up for a great year and some of the events the pro shop is planning; this season should be a fun. Thank you for your patience this winter and look to see you on the golf course soon.

March is a great time of year. We have a lot of the fun things coming up right around the corner. With the start of spring and fresh beginnings, I will continue to reach out to new and former members and invite them back to our community. We know that SCC has been a home and a nostalgic landmark for over 100 years for many people and families in Salina. Our goal is to create an exceptional experience and meaningful memories for all of our members. We will be hosting a Chamber After Hours on Thursday March 28th in the Main Dining Room. This is a great opportunity to show the Salina community what the Club has to offer. We will continue to offer the Stay as Long as You Like program. Both new and returning members will have the opportunity to join the Club with No Initiation fee, and no 12 month commitment. If you have any friends or family members that may be interested in joining the Club, Please contact me at the main office or by email mivey@troon.com and I will be more than happy to work with any perspective member. Thank you to all of you for your continued support. Bring on the nice weather! Melissa
SCC Ladies Bridge We want to extend a special invitation to all women of Salina Country Club to come for lunch and Bridge. We meet the fourth Thursday of every month at 12:00 pm through October. Please come and enjoy a delicious lunch, connect with friends, and make some new ones! See you soon!
