December was an incredible month at the Club. I would be remiss if I didn’t say a very special thank you to Wanda and her team, I thought the Club decorations were absolutely spectacular this year! December was full of fantastic member events, and I sincerely hope that you were able to come out and take advantage of everything your Club has to offer. Breakfast with Santa was a ton of fun, Christmas Eve dinner was huge, and the members danced the night away at the New Year’s Eve party. There will be plenty of activity in January as well. Make sure you come out to the Club to follow the Chiefs playoff run, and root the Wildcats or Jayhawks on to victory on the court. Member Events to keep an eye out for: •

Inaugural SCC Salina Dinner Club – upscale dining in the old Johnny’s, a new fine dining event we are excited about Battle of the Burgers – our staff will compete for your vote and a slot on next month’s menu Poker Tournament – Prove your dominance on the felt and help christen our new beer buckets

Once again, thank you all for being members of Salina Country Club! It’s a very exciting time for our Club and I’m very grateful that you’ve chosen to join us! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

Happy New Year Salina Country Club! I trust that everyone had wonderful holidays and thank those of you that joined us for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve festivities! We are happy to say that we survived the crazy month of December here in the Food & Beverage world. We had great success throughout the month, not just with holiday parties, but in the restaurants as well. It was fantastic to meet new people, families, and friends regularly in all areas. A new year brings all kinds of excitement. It is our annual opportunity to start fresh, change, set new goals, and try new things. January is full of innovations and creativity, a month to reminisce on the “old new” and find ways to enhance the future. As we continue to focus on training, we are beginning to plan the year out and set goals in terms of what experiences we want to feature for the club and the community. From new culinary concepts and menus, to craft mixology; we are rolling out the red carpets for 2019. Thank you to those that sent in any allergy or dietary preferences. We take these very seriously in order to ensure each and every visit to the club is a personalized experience. Please, never hesitate to reach out if you anticipate needing additional accommodations. Again, thank you for all the warm welcomes and your genuine hospitality thus far. I am excited to have you by our side with the new beginnings of 2019! Warmest regards, Chris Nickell

Happy New Year Everyone! We ended 2018 on a great note. It was exciting to see all of the members with their family and friends celebrate here at the club. This January we are ready to hit refresh button. The full Food and Beverage Team will be collaborating on service training to provide a consistently great experience between all of our staff team and members. Whether you are making a reservation, utilizing one of our event spaces, or planning an offsite party, we want to leave a positive reference point to go home with. Please remember any feedback is great for our growth in 2019! First off, I would like to announce that there will be a refresh on our Sunday Brunch moving forward. We’ll be offering a new Brunch Buffet selection which will include an omelet bar, carved meats, salads, french toast, and a variety of special brunch fare items. In addition we have created a new breakfast and lunch menu selection for your enjoyment. On January 16th we are also launching our Passport Series. Here we will pay tribute to global food and cultures around the world. First out the gate is The Flavors of India. We will offer a dinner special monthly celebrating a different country’s pantry of aromatics, proteins, vegetables and culture in every dish. I would not miss this. Please make you reservations in advance! But wait there’s more! On the 19th we are introducing our first underground dinner, the Salina Dinner Club. Details are still being worked out, but I can say you will get a signature menu designed by me and specialty drinks paired by Chris. The event will be held in the old Johnny’s space and will be an exclusive affaire for those with advanced reservations only. The cut off is 24 guests. A sample menu will be hitting your inbox and club publication soon. This month I was also inspired to add some excitement for the kitchen staff, so we wanted to have a friendly contest. We are going to call it the Battle of the Burgers! Here 4 team members will craft a burger for you to sample. You will vote on the most popular invention and the winning burger will be showcased for a month on the menu. The team member that created the burger will be reviled. Remember any feed back is good feedback, we are here for you. Let us know how we can make your time with us the most memorable. I look forward to cooking for you. To a positive 2019. Chef Eric

Welcome to a new year at Salina Country Club! We are looking forward to a great 2019 with many new events and popular activities returning! The new golf schedule will be finalized in the next few weeks. Until then we have a few winter updates, if you have any questions about tournament dates in the meantime please give us a call. Winter Cart Policy: During the winter months please keep carts in the rough as much as possible, and use the 90 degree rule when crossing the fairway. This will help the condition of the fairways going into spring. Pro Shop Sale: We are making room for 2019 spring merchandise so stop by the Pro Shop this month for some great buys on clothing and equipment. Discounts up to 75% off! Re-Grip Special: This is always a good time to make sure you clubs are ready for the new season, especially grips. Our re-grip special will continue through January (re-grip the irons and hybrids, get the woods re-gripped for free). Club Storage: Winter or summer, the worst thing you can do to your golf clubs is store them in the trunk of your car. Extreme cold and hot temperatures can cause the club heads to loosen, and will deteriorate grips over time. If you are not currently taking advantage of SCC club storage, consider it for 2019. Club storage charge for the year is $150 which includes storage, cleaning after each round, handling of bags to and from carts, and minor club repairs. Handicaps: Please notify the Pro Shop if you do not want a handicap for 2019. The club will bill in February for each name on the handicap list so if you are still on the list as of January 31st you will be charged for a handicap. Thank you for a great turn out at the Christmas Open House. It was one of the best attended we have had in a few years. Congratulations to Monte Gilliland for winning the Annual Penny Raffle! Thank you for a wonderful 2018 and for your continued support and I am looking forward to seeing everyone in the New Year! Rob Carlson

The New Year is when everyone reflects on goals and the changes they would like to make to have a great year. The SCC maintenance staff is doing the same to make sure we continue to provide the best conditions possible in 2019. We have already started making adjustments including topdressing the greens. This is a common practice to protect the crown of the plant from foot traffic and the cold winter weather. The recent moisture helps work the sand down and acts as a blanket. We will continue this practice as much as the weather will allow. Another change to our maintenance plan includes a spring insecticide application for Billbugs. This little insect caused the fairways to have thin areas, and this application will eliminate that issue. The changes we are making are all part of working with Mother Nature, as she controls what we do, and we have to constantly learn from what works and what we need to do differently. Last year we learned a lot, which will only help the course in the future. That starts with making sure all the small details are not overlooked. We plan to continue improving training methods to make sure we do everything consistently and efficiently, no matter who is assigned a task. Everyone will do it the same way to have consistency throughout the course. By doing that the course should not only look good, but also have good playing conditions. The crew and I are excited to start the new season. We are ready to see what this year will bring and provide a golf course to be proud of. Happy New Year.

Fore Up

Chris

Thank you everyone for a lovely holiday season. It was very busy and the Club was full of friends and laughter. It was such a perfect way to end a wonderful year. After bringing on the “Play now Pay Later Initiative this winter we have brought 7 new/returning members to the club for 2019. We plan to keep pace in growing our community here so you can build long lasting friendships and relationships with the amazing people and families who support us. The success of the club depends on bringing in more events and recruiting more members, and I am looking forward to the challenge this year. I also want to thank each and every person who referred a new member to us this year. Please continue to share all of the amazing things we do here with your friends and family. We are very excited about where Salina Country Club is headed and are looking forward to a great 2019. We want to thank all of you for being a part of it. Cheers to a great new year. Melissa
