MARINE DIESEL ENGINE - AC GENERATOR BRAKE EDUCATIONAL
GENERAL The Unit consists of a marine type, four stroke supercharged diesel engine with marine gear reduction unit coupled to an AC generator as braking system. The engine cooling system is made by means of a water to water heat exchanger and an oil to water heat exchanger both fed from the salt water circuit and it is complete with temperature and flow sensors. The AC generator is cooled by means of an independent fan. The engine is coupled by means of a flexible coupling to the AC generator as a braking system and the power output is measured by means of the instruments of the generator. A rack supporting all the instruments and the fuel tank-consumption meter systems complete the Unit. The engine-brake unit is mounted by means of vibration damping suspensions on a steel structure stand together with the salt water tanks for engine cooling. The rack supporting all the instruments is an independent stand in order to avoid vibration effects on the instruments. The gear reduction unit is of marine type with neutral position. By means of a potentiometer it is possible to vary the engine load in order to simulate different engine working conditions. The instrument system is provided with analogue signal conditioning boards, a 12 bit analogue to digital data acquisition board connectable via serial/parallel port to a PC. The software included allow the acquisition, processing and graphic plotting of all the main working parameters and it has been designed in order to simulate a real small ship propulsion control panel (see the enclosed Video training System DAQ technical data sheet).
Dimensions LxWxh and weight (dry net): Engine-Brake Unit 1900x1400x1300 - kg 850 Control board 2600x800x1850 - kg 350
All the main instruments together with the main control for the engine speed governor and the gear reduction unit are on the main control board, which is an independent rack and can be opportunely positioned in order to fit the laboratory design. All rotating parts are protected by steel net guards as well as all the pipes and cables. The Unit simply rests on the floor, no masonry is requested for installation. A simple connection to water line and electricity and the Unit is in order to work. An instruction-maintenance book allowing the conduction of every experiments is supplied.
