MULTI PUMP EDUCATIONAL UNIT
This pump test unit consists of a metal stand incorporating water pumps, tick liquid pumps and a vacuum pump. Relevant water tank, thick liquid tank and control board are situated on both sides of the test unit. PUMPS Three types of pump are in use on this unit: water pumps, thick liquid pumps and vacuum pump. Water pump models are as follows: one piston pump with plunger, one centrifugal multi-stage pump and two centrifugal single-stage pumps, the latter suitable to operate both in series and parallel. Thick liquid pump models are as follows: a double-geared pump, a variable speed eccentric gear pump and a metering pump with variable rate of-flow. The vacuum pump, of liquid ring type, is connected to both lower water and thick liquid tanks for the purpose of carrying out operation tests on the two types of pumps with variable negative head suction. Water circuit can be preheated through electric resistances situated in the lower water tank and controlled by a thermostat. This preheating serves for executing tests on pumps supplied with water at different temperature values. The tick liquid pumps are used to control operation ratings of pumps essentially of volumetric nature as they often are and with flow rates even very small. These flow rates can be measured through an appropriate tank with minor capacity, which is contained inside the upper tank for thick liquids. Thick liquid pumps can be eventually used also for the supply of oil-hydraulic circuit systems that are outside from the unit. I - 16153 P.D. da Bissone 36r. WATER AND THICK LIQUIDS TANKS The water tank assembly is made up of two distinct sub-tanks. The upper one is permanently communicating with the atmosphere, while the lower one may be put into communication with atmosphere or tightly closed and connected with the vacuum pump. All tanks are provided with graduated level gauge. Both tanks are connected to the water pumps through valves and gates and can also be interconnected so to constitute a single water tank assembly when long duration test are required. For this purpose a flow meter for instant flow rate measurement and a water meter are mounted on the general header on the pressure flow side of pumps. Two 6 kW electric resistances haven been arranged in the lower tank to provide water pre-heating. The thick liquid tanks have been designed and developed with the same features of those for water. The upper one also includes a smaller capacity tank for small flow rate measurement which can be observed on an appropriate gauge. CONTROL BOARD The control board comprises, further to electrical equipment for control and operation of pumps, resistances and ancillaries, also the following instruments: ¾ Pressure gauge for water pumps ¾ Pressure gauge for thick liquid pumps ¾ Vacuum gauge ¾ Pre-heated water thermometer ¾ Electric motor speed regulator for water pumps (optional) ¾ Double scale ammeter ¾ Voltmeter ¾ Wattmeter. The last three instruments listed above may be switched-in on the electric circuit of each single pump consequently indicate the values of power absorbed by the motor for each pump. OUTSIDE USERS Through appropriate connection means, all the pumps may be used both for suction and pressure operation, with users that are external to the test unit. The multipump test unit type GPD08-VR is the most complete plant for laboratory investigation on the characteristics, differences and use of the most common type of pumps normally present in industrial and civil applications. In order to meet different and more particular needs, the same design and lay out of the GPD 08VR can be arranged in reduced-simplified versions equipped with the following pumps:
